Walkabout The World - A Disney Podcast - A Walk-And-Talk In Adventureland - Plus Full Pirates Ride-through

Hello Travelers! Grab your khakis, your pirate cutlass, and a spoon for your Dole Whip and come with us for a walk-and-talk episode that is 100% in Adventureland at Disney's Magic Kingdom. We start at the Adventureland bridge and make our way through the entirety of this small land, ducking into shops, stopping to laugh at the camel spitting on unsuspecting guests, and taking in bits of the ambience. Tag along with host Jeremy to learn about fountains with no water, where to finde quality air conditioning at a quick-service, and of course - random plant names. We cap off the adventure with a full ride-through of Pirates of the Caribbean!   As always, use good listening devices as we always record in 4 channel surround sound. Welcome back travelers to walk about the world from the happiest and most adventurous place on earth. Disney's Magic Kingdom. And we are in, as you can tell, Adventureland, where we will be spending our time today. We're just going to hang out in Adventureland. We haven't done this in a while. And I thought, let's just, wow, the drums are getting really intense over here. Thought we'd just hang out in Adventureland today, you and I. We'll walk, we'll talk, we'll catch some ambience, but this is going to be an exploration trip, and fitting, because we're in Adventureland.

Now, we are just now entering Adventureland, near the Adventureland Bridge. To your right is what is now the Club 33 location for Magic Kingdom. Used to be called some other thing, something terrace. See, I should know these things. I know, you're yelling at your phone or your car speaker right now. Forgive me. Back in the day, it was an eatery. Now it's Club 33. Across the way to the left, the very first merchandise location you run into, and it's Buona Bob's. And it is surprisingly packed today.

They have everything you would need for an adventurous Adventureland trip. Hats, sunglasses, not kidding, various cold drinks, and also Mickey ears. I'm not sure why you would need those, or well, Mickey and Minnie ears, but hey, they look cool. Coming up on our right, you know what it is, Sunshine Tree Terrace. orange bird on the sign i don't know about you guys but orange bird is just my favorite i have a multitude of orange bird things all around my home office and also to the right here this building looks very looks very Caribbean or Caribbean however you say it maybe it depends on if you're a pirate or not but the building is kind of aqua aquamarine blue with yellow and pink and there's a

railing up top with what looks like apartments. Pete and I talk about apartments that we would like to live in in the parks, and this is at the top of the list for me. Here at the Sunshine Tree Terrace, you can get your fried pork and vegetable pot stickers, the I lava you float, a couple of variations of floats actually all kinds of goodies right across from the Sunshine Tree Terrace is a seating area that I always pass right by because it's it's made out of what looks like lava rock. It's not. It's very cleverly decorated concrete, but it's about a billion degrees over here.

There's no shade, but I pass right by it because it's so hot. But inside this seated planter area are beautiful bromeliads. Look that one up. They're just gorgeous neon-colored plants. And it's surrounded by palms and bird of paradise. And it is a gorgeous area over here. It very much puts you in the tropical adventureland vibe. Nobody over here.

I wonder why. To our left foreground is the Swiss Family Treehouse. I haven't done that in a while. Do you guys do the treehouse when you're here? So, full disclosure, we often skip this because my sweetie visits the park in a wheelchair. And so this isn't really an attraction that we can do together, so we skip it. But I'm wondering if you do the treehouse. It's a lot of steps.

And if I remember, there's not a lot there, not a lot to see. It's a huge piece of Adventureland real estate, but I often skip it. Looking directly at the Jungle Navigation Company Skipper Canteen, this is the main restaurant of Adventureland, very much tied theming-wise to the Jungle Cruise. And I would love to know if you've visited the Skipper Canteen. We've done Skipper Canteen a couple of times. The first time, we utterly loved it.

We thought, this is going to be a family favorite. And then we went back a couple of times, and wow, the quality of the food really, to us, was diminished. And we gave it another try, and it was still not awesome, to be honest with you. And we haven't visited since. I would love to know what you guys think. It's a beautiful restaurant inside. And I love the theming. I love the nods to Indiana Jones.

There's some of that in there. Adventurous things of all flavors. The SEA is tied to the restaurant and the skippers that serve you are amazing. Currently looking down into the heart of Adventureland now. Treehouse to your left. We've talked about some of the details here about the treehouse, which are really cool. Everything appears to be made from the wreck of their ship. There's a covered walkway that leads in. It's made out of the oars

of the ship. It has some cannon around the edge to defend from scallywags. Now to your right is a walkway that leads over to Frontierland. It's got the first restrooms that you encounter here in Adventureland, and some of the worst restrooms in the park, in my humble opinion. Do you keep track when you visit the nicest and the least nice bathrooms of the parks that you visit?

Just me? Don't visit this one. Bad things happen in there. Just trust me. Trust me on that. Looking to our right at Island Supply. This is by Sunglass Hut. Don't come in here very often.

Let's poke in, shall we? Aviator, Wayfair, Clubmaster, Ray-Ban. And who knew the ambience was so nice in here Tory Burch Tiffany Prada Get yourself some Prada sunglasses These are only $500 We're doing great, thank you Get yourself some Prada sunglasses.

These are only $500. We're doing great, thank you. These are only $503. Oh, some Versace, wow. I'm just looking around. Okay. For a cool $345, you can pick yourself up some Versace sunglasses. Great ambience in there, though. Wow.

Also, for you seasoned visitors, what was that before Sunglass Hut? Seems like it's been Sunglass Hut forever. Alright, back out into the main walkway. Now to the right, there are what used to be some of the best places to enjoy your Dole Whip. Seating area in there. It was covered in a little hallway. It's blocked off now. I don't know why.

Yeah you missed camel. Directly in front of us. The magic carpets of Aladdin and the spitting camel I just watched a guest be completely surprised to be doused in water. Actually, they don't even know where it came from. We're standing next to Zanzibar Trading Company, by the way, which is currently completely blocked off. Looks like the old Zanzibar Trading Company is undergoing some refurb.

Beautiful building, though. I'll take a picture of the sign here because I love this font. Josh, you need to tell me. Is this a font or something custom made? Gorgeous.

Alright, Aladdin just came in for a landing. Over here to our right, as we head towards Aloha Isle, is the Agrabah Bazaar. And I'm thinking to myself, what is that? What's in there? And actually, looks like nothing in there. But it is a meet and greet apparently for Aladdin. At least right now. Maybe it has been for some time. I don't know. There's a sign that struck my interest way back in the corner.

There's a couple of standing tables back here in the corner next to the Agrabah Bazaar. And back in the corner, there's a sign up at the top, over top of a doorway that says Elephant Tales. T-A-L-E-S. Which is fun, and it made me wonder, what is that? Directly ahead of us is Aloha Isle Refreshments brought to you by Dole. You can guess what's in there. Beautiful building. Somebody enjoying the Aladdin's magic carpets behind us there is positively zero shade over here by

the way coming up to your right is the enchanted tiki Room building. I love this attraction. If you are new to our happy little podcast we have a full recording of the Tiki Room show. Still one of my favorites. Always have to pause for a water feature Until you really walk over here, you don't know how much water surrounds this building. But it is a beautifully decorated, planted garden area. Multiple waterfalls. It's worth a stop. worth the stop and a look

we are not going to do the tiki room today kind of want to because it would be nice and cool I'm gonna to keep pressing on. Standing right next to the missing tiki's? Is that the... Oh, wow. Okay, I forgot they squirted water. Good call to stand

back a little bit. Is that the right term for these things? I don't think it is. Totems! No, I don't know. But they have mist coming out of them. And they are squirting copious amounts of water. Let's step over here next to the railing and take in the chaos of Aladdin's magic carpets. Come on, come on! Okay everyone, we're coming to the end.

It went from a fairly peaceful Adventure land to a very packed one very quickly all right let's come down the ramp over here towards the jungle cruise which seemingly always has a long line these days And it does so today as well.

Sigh. I did think about popping on here. But it's the midst of summer. Actually, a lot of people back in school, but still, it's pretty packed today. Wait time, 65 minutes for the world famous Jungle Cruise Tour. Skippers out and about. Field and Company, Global Spice Dealers. Shipping and exporting cloves, pepper.

Number 9, Mile End Road, Warehouses. shipping and exporting clothes pepper number nine mile end road warehouses Mombasa British East Africa and London I'll ask them. Hold on. Get Jordan. Jordan. Can you hear the boats coming in? B-O-T-E-S Crate to the right here says, Live Baby Piranha. Packed in 100% pure Amazon River water.

Hibiscus blooming all around this area. Bright pinks, yellows gorgeous oh no All right, we've turned the corner. Chinatiki room to your right now. To our left, you can get some popcorn and some cold drinks and apparently a new popcorn bucket that has Mickey wrapped up as a mummy with with a pumpkin with a jack-o'-lantern under his arm super cute Kampung Kampung First deep sigh of the day. If that doesn't put you in a relaxing mood, I don sigh of the day.

If that doesn't put you in a relaxing mood, I don't know what will. The waterfall of the entrance to the Tiki Room and the ambience, it's just great Sometimes you just, you don't want to keep going. If there was any shade to be had over there, I would have parked there a while. You're going to see the ambience change pretty quickly here. the courtyard where you will find the Pirates of the Caribbean. To our right looks like the storefront to some sort of colonial store. I think it's where Jack Sparrow makes his appearance these days. Next to it is the Fuente de la Fortuna, which I think is the Fountain of Fortune, a.k.a. Wishing Well. Interestingly enough, no water. They have it filled with

plants now. And since I'm a plant weirdo, I happen to know this blue plant is Evolvulus blue daze, which grows like a weed. Good choice, Disney. You can tell me if I get that translation completely wrong, by the way. The mast with the Pirates of the Caribbean sign directly ahead of us now surrounded by a planting of sea grape what is sea grape you say well I happen to know that because I live by the beach for 12 years but I want to take a photo of this for you post it on our Instagram account, walkaboutwdw. to the bottom of the Pirates of the Caribbean sign with our pirate lookout up above. He's a skeleton. Now, directly in front of us is the Torre del Cielo and I'm just going to take a guess that that's

Sky Tower or Tower of the Sky it's a clock tower beautiful and something I've never noticed over on this side La Fuente Serena Beautiful. And something I've never noticed over on this side. La Fuente Serena. Serene fountain? Also, no water.

I'm guessing these things used to have water. This one is filled with bromeliads and what looks like papyrus. Okay, so rounding the corner, we have Pirates of the Caribbean, Tortuga Tavern to our right. And since I haven't been to the old Tortuga for a while, giant barrel of rum here by the way. That's good.

I haven't been there a while. I want to see what Tortuga Tavern has now. Can't remember. Plus I think it's changed since I was there last. This used to be tacos, right? Okay. Tacos no more, if that's what it used to be. I see veranda teriyaki burger and veranda chicken strips.

Wait a minute. That Club 33 building. It's jogging a memory. Tortuga Tavern established 1673 grub and grog I have been here forever even though it is open-air they have some air conditioning blasting, which I very much appreciate. A. Smith, proprietor. Oh, wow, these rooms are really cool. Dark rooms back here. Wooden tables. Pretty great AC, shockingly. Blackbeard the pirate. Featured prominently on the wall.

Pirate hats and ships everywhere. Lots of little hidden courtyards back here too with some stairs up to what would be apartments okay i like this this is a really great place to come around the corner and take your dole whip or to get some eats and set and watch the action of Adventureland as people roll by but you actually have some fairly cool air yeah okay glad I stopped in now we are nearing the end of the journey through Adventureland I can see the gateway here to Frontierland we are in the plaza wait come on palm tree get out of the way for me here we're in the Plaza del Sol Caribe Plaza of the Caribbean Sun I can believe it in spur

the moment decision here we are going to take in the Pirates of the Caribbean because I feel like it wait time is 30 minutes not too bad. Walking into the Castillo del Morro now. I will rejoin you when we get nearer to our boat because I want to make you wait in line. See you in a minute. ¡Vamos! Welcome to the hotel! Welcome to the hotel! For your safety, please remain seated with your hands, arms, feet and legs inside the bathroom and wait for the children. Kampung Kampung Kepala The The Ravnirvården I'm not sure if you can see it, but the Kampung Kampung I'm sorry. You miserable girls! Strike your collage, you blooming cockroaches! Surrender, Captain Jack Sparrow! Or my thunder will burn the city to the ground! They need a bit of persuasion to make these fire-and-wild things work.
