Hello travelers and welcome back to Walk About the World, your weekly audio adventure through
one of the parks or resorts of Walt Disney World here in Orlando, Florida.
And can you tell where we are?
Finally!
Back once again in the Magic Kingdom.
I admit, it's been a few.
So we are here today for a walk and talk.
A walk about what we're going to get into.
I don't know.
But we're starting at the very entrance
to the park. We're standing directly under the train station right now, looking across
the path to the Emporium. And I always mention stuff like this, but if you know what a crepe
myrtle is, crepe myrtles are beautiful. And they have some single-stemmed white ones here
in the area directly in front of Main Street, USA.
And they are blooming and beautiful.
It is a blue sky this morning.
And it is going to be a roasting hot day.
But that's okay, because we came prepared.
What do you do? You bring a towel.
You bring some water.
Sunscreen.
And then all the other stuff you know.
Brush your teeth, be nice to your teachers.
Teachers are on vacay, so that's good for them.
Josh knows.
So what we're going to start off with today is we are going to very slowly and carefully walk down Main Street, USA
and seek out some details and kind of do a check-in.
Haven't been here a while.
Okay, so what we're going to do, we're going to take off, we're going to walk down MainStreet,
we're going to pay attention to some of the signs, we may pop in some of the stores if
we can.
I think the confectionery is still closed.
Is that right?
Alright, so we won't pop in the confectionery, but
let's work our way over to
Main Street USA.
Hey!
Right there on this side.
The crowd out here
is pretty thin
actually.
Taking a left over to where the flag is, the big flagpole, partially because the music is awesome. However, the
main reason is these flower beds over here are filled with blooming roses, and they are
gorgeous. And that's kind of my thing, So I'm coming over to look at the plants.
I'm sorry you can't see them.
Let me take a photo for you. All right.
I'm going to move on.
We are directly across from the Town Square Theater and Tony's Town Square Restaurant. Standing directly in front of the chapeau, which is closed.
Fashions by John. Dressmaking.
Hymn stitching.
And what is that other word?
Picoting?
Picoting?
Probably picoting? I don't know. Picotting? Picotting? Probably Picotting?
I don't know.
I'm not a seems person, so I don't know.
And here we have Town Square tailors.
Tailors to the president.
Bob Phelps, proprietor.
Some of these signs are surprisingly hard to actually see.
There are some above the confectionary sign.
I'm going to take a second.
Bill Irwin and Larry Reiser.
Synchronizer and field calculations.ations, state licensed and bonded.
General Contractor, Pete Markham, engineer.
Francis Stanek, prognostications.
I need a prognostications. I need a prognosticator.
Now, we are at the corner at the confectionary,
which is indeed currently closed, right?
Sad trombone.
I think you can get confectionary stuff at the Starbucks, yeah?
Is that where they have it, or they got it somewhere else?
They have it there. I think they also have it in another store down the
way. Okay. I can't remember what it's called. Now, we are not able to stand in the middle.
We're not able to walk right down the middle of Main Street USA. They are directing us to the sides.
Why is that?
Because there is a cavalcade a-coming.
And also a great many folks running madly.
We're in the sunny side of Main Street,
unlike the smart people on the other side that are standing in the shady side.
The good thing is, if there is one, nobody's over here.
So let's pause and take a look and listen to the cavalcade.
I'll describe it to you while trying not to interrupt the music too much. can you hear this, travelers?
It's a Tinkerbell float.
I believe.
Tinkerbell was paused for a moment while the cast members tried to shoo some people out of the roadway.
Okay, I'll be quiet. Here we go. See you next time. I'm a beast I'm a beast I'm a beast I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast
I'm a beast I'm a beast Princesses are out. So we just saw Tinkerbell these stairs at the top of the train station
the princesses are out and it looks like the fairy godmother I'm not sure if it's all the princesses
okay let us make our way. I'm whispering, travelers. Why am I doing
that? I don't know. Because I think out loud. Do you do that?
I think with my mouth, and that's dangerous because you can often hear what I'm thinking.
Alright, we are taking a left.
And we are indeed now walking down through the middle of Main Street USA. Emporium to your left.
A Poor Crying Child to your right.
And actually another one to your right.
You know how it goes, guys.
These little ones, they don't like the heat.
It's tough on them.
Main Street Cinema to your right.
Now showing sweets and treats.
I'm guessing it is showing that because... Do they have the confectionery stuff in there tell you what we're going to investigate and you know what's in front of you the
beautiful castle flags are waving at the top of the buildings
I'm gonna take a right here and go back down the other side of the street on the
sidewalk and check out Main Street Cinemas
by the way we have William and Sharon Lund gallery exhibiting only authentic works of art. Daughterland modeling agency.
Let's take a peek in the Main Street cinema. Being careful to don our masks.
Hi. All right.
Masks no longer required outside, still for the moment.
Required inside.
Soon to be changed.
We'll talk about that.
Hi, guys.
So is this the temporary confectionary sort of kind of?
Yes.
Yeah.
Until the confectionary reopens.
Any idea when that happens?
October.
Okay.
Okay.
For the 50th?
It's going to be the whole, took out the pet store and our offices.
Really?
Wow.
Bigger kitchen.
We'll be able to launch more.
More like on-display making of things?
Oh, that's cool.
Well, have a great day.
Uh-huh.
So Main Street Cinema is a little,
it's a very small space,
loaded with confectionery stuff right now, but you guys just heard this.
We're not the Disney News podcast, but huge refurb,
which if you follow Disney News, you probably already knew that was happening,
but I didn't know they were taking over more space
and going to have more live making of things.
Okay, we popped into the store right next to
the cinemas and i do not know what this store is called do you know what this store is called
i don't remember i just know it's the store where they sell a lot of lounge fly purses
and jewelry and they have some um dresses in here i can't remember what this store is actually
called so we're stopping we're not huge disney folks, but I tell you what we do. We like to window shop.
And they have a new collection of
I would call this mint
green or sea foam.
What would you? I think they're actually calling it
mint green. It's mint green lounge
fly backpacks and purses and stuff.
I don't
use said products, but it is
pretty cool looking.
And I thought this was an orange bird dress,
but it's totally not. It's a four parks
multi-colored
dress
that you guys can't see.
See, I know this is the quality content you guys tune in
for, me describing dresses that you can't see.
Just looking around.
Some backpacks from... From what? What is this from?
Aristocats?
Aristocats?
Mm-hmm.
And some Dalmatians themed gear.
Which,
of course, right?
What's over here?
I think it's a picture
because that is a higher weight
Tomorrowland themed dress.
You guys probably didn't hear that
because I'm moving.
But Heather said there's a Tomorrowland themed
dress and a few things over here.
Let's head back out.
My mask just got compressed, folks.
Let's head back out.
That fellow traveler said, we need caffeine in the morning.
She is not wrong.
I'm taking a right here.
Josh told me what street this was.
And since there's no street sign, and since my memory is terrible,
I've already forgotten.
I think it's Center Street, isn't it?
I think that's what he said.
I'm sorry, Josh.
I'm taking a turn back here where they have balloons for sale,
and they also have silhouettes,
where a gentleman can make you a silhouette of you or yours even a pet I think
back here we have signs for Sayers and Company College of Business satisfied graduates from coast to coast. Pete Clark, Western Manager.
Norm Fagrell, Eastern Manager.
On the Art Festival building.
They have a set of three or four tables back here.
You can escape the hustle and bustle of Main Street.
We have Crystal Arts.
And above it, it's got voice and singing private lessons,
and I believe if you sit here,
you can hear them.
Can't you?
Just a second ago, I was like,
what is that?
It was tap dancing.
Oh, really?
Yes.
And the store to our left
is Uptown Jewelers,
Golden Diamond Jewelry.
This is the Pandora location.
What do we have up top here?
Props and scenic backdrops.
Frank Millington, Chuck Fowler, Hank, looks like Hank Danes?
I'm not sure.
Marshall Smelsner?
I like that name.
And up at the very middle of this building, we have a window that says
Windermere Fraternal Hall.
Charter members, Bob Allen, Pete Crimmings,
Dick Evans, Bob Matheson, Bill Hulsher?
I'm not good at this, guys.
And the other window says,
Jack Olsen, the Merchant Prince.
World's largest collection of keychains.
I'm not sure why that would be important,
but good job, Jack.
Going back out to the entrance of Center and Main
Emporium
because you know the Emporium just goes forever
Emporium across the way
since 1863
soft toys, collectibles, keepsakes
teddy bears
whatever your heart desires and you have the money enough to buy Soft toys, collectibles, keepsakes, teddy bears.
Whatever your heart desires and you have the money enough to buy.
Disney clothiers. directly in the middle of Main Street,
photobombing a poor family that didn't want us in.
Are you sure?
Yeah.
All right, thank you.
You're welcome.
Not in a hurry.
Me neither.
Main Street Bakery to our right the original dick nunes gym turkish baths
starbucks location on the right which I am currently feeling the need for.
There is quite a line.
We'll investigate that.
Right across from us is the House of Magic.
And I will tell you, since you guys already know that I am not the most observant guy as I tour the parks,
I'm trying to do better for all of us. I actually never noticed that was called
the House of Magic. Did you? No, I never saw that either. Okay, I don't feel so bad then.
It says tricks and puzzles. House of Magic. The cavalcade is coming.
Cavalcade's on its way?
We gotta move.
Alright.
We're going to try to get out of the way of the cavalcade.
Lest we be ran over Oh, my gosh. This one is goofy and a time of love It's easy, dancing, I'm forever We're going, you're going, let, let, let
We're going, it's funny, we're going
Cause it's time to go crazy, so crazy
Let it go, cause we're going without you
So party up, party up, celebrate
We're going crazy, to be a star So party up, party up, till the rain is back And bring it up, to the end of the sky
So party up, party up, till the rain is back
So turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
So party up, party up, party up Music Well there's your second cavalcade of the day, which is kind of cool.
So that was Goofy on a singular float, and it had dancers and people on stilts, right?
And it had more characters, it had...
Oh what did it have?
It had Max was on there
max yeah yeah they had Claire Bell the cow And just like that, the cavalcade is done.
Now, where are we?
We had to...
We had to quickly duck off to the left because the cast member was...
They saw us approaching and basically they gave me the frantic yet polite buddy get out of the street indication with the two fingers, which is, you know, the polite way to point, but she was pointing furiously.
And so we got out of the way and we turned left at Casey's just to set the scene for you.
To our left is the Crystal Palace.
And it is open yes i believe so
there's no crowd there so i don't know if we're in between meals or what's going on i haven't
checked the hour so i'm not really sure uh adventureland off to your left the adventureland
bridge directly to our left but we're going to go straight over to this little castle hub
castle hubiphery area.
And because you know I have to... Can you hear the fountain?
And see, I said it right.
I said fountain.
So here we are.
Not directly in front of the castle, but almost. And we're by the lovely fountain here in the kind of outer hub area right gorgeous
topiaries trimmed hedges peach colored roses blooming rare rabbit statue
another statue here who's this it is chip and dale not the rescue rangers just the normal ones
back out to main street trying not to run over fellow travelers yeah this is not
packed here today guys it is absolutely not Kind of thought it would be.
Now, I'm guessing if you head over to some of the Highliner attractions,
you'd probably find some crowds.
Right here, though, Castle Hub, it's kind of empty so we're going to continue up towards the directly in front of the castle where the statue is
of Walt and Mickey Always good to see the partners.
Wait.
What's happening?
Alright.
Look to your left, Heather.
Oh, man.
It's the boss! I see anyone with a little UFC. Oh, everybody put your ears on.
Oh, good, good, good, good time.
Oh, yeah, it's gonna be all right.
Oh, good, good, good, good time.
To the east and the north and to the west.
Say it with everybody with a fist.
Everybody, good time.
Oh, good, good, good, good time. Everybody, do you have your ears on?
And here we have the boss man himself.
Mickey Mouse along with Minnie.
And it looks like Pluto.
Is there a duck in the back? I'm gonna have to wait and see. With some dancers and
some stilt walkers.
Oh yes, yes indeed we have a duck. I'm out of here We're ready to party We won't leave it
We're getting started
Cause we just can't wait
We're going to start
And I hear you say
I see
Everyone
Let's go USC
For everyone who needs us
Let's go, let's go, let's go
Let's go, let, go, go, go
Oh yeah, I'm a queen of all the world
Go, go, go, go, go, go
To the east, to the north, we do the west
Celebrate, do the party, do the dance
Everybody on the floor now
Go, go, go, go, go, go
I'm so proud of you, I'm so proud of you
Anyone will know you will see Oh, everybody put your feet on the ground I'm a woman, I share my secret If you want me, then don't use a seat
No, I'm a woman, I share my secret
I'm a woman, I share my secret
I'm a woman, I share my secret
I'm a woman, I share my secret
I'm a woman, I share my secret
I'm a woman, I share my secret And now you have a mix of Main Street USA, Castle Music, Cavalcade in the Distance, and Adventureland off to the right.
If you can hear all three like we can, it sounds a little bit confusing.
Not sure if I should be adventurous or relaxed or dancing.
I'm not going to do the last one because I would be thrown out of here.
All right, travelers, I think we're going to call this one done hope you enjoyed our exploration of main street super laid-back episode today really all i wanted to do was just kind of soak
up some main street vibes and put you guys in the park that's always the goal anyway
and so that's what
we did. And we ended up hearing three cavalcades in that amount of time, which really surprises me.
They're coming like 10 minutes or less. And so I did want to mention at the end of the episode
today that depending on when this is released, I'm not sure because I never know exactly what
order these are going to come out in, but we just heard news late yesterday.
So as we recorded this this morning, this is Saturday morning, late Friday afternoon, about 4,
Disney released information that as of June 15th, they will no longer be requiring masks in most places.
And as far as we can tell, the only places that will still be requiring them will be transportation options.
Your monorail, your boats, your buses, of course, all that good stuff is still required. we can tell the only places that will still be requiring them will be transportation options.
Your monorail, your boats, your buses, of course, all that good stuff still require masks, but not in the parks, not in the park stores, not in the resorts.
