Starting point is 00:00:00 You hear that? You hear that? You hear that? You smell that? Smells like cheeseburger egg rolls and pineapple donut. That could mean only one thing. Hello, travelers. pineapple don't win. That could mean only one thing. Hello, travelers.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Welcome back to Walk About the World, your weekly audio stroll through the parks and resorts of Walt Disney World and Disneyland. We are at the Magic Kingdom. It's time for a little bit of adventure, as we are going to spend today strolling around taking in all the sights sounds and smells of adventureland it's josh by the way i'm here with my son jude hello and uh it's a perfect day i can only describe it as one thing, it is perfect. It is, we've been waiting for this fall weather.
Starting point is 00:01:08 It finally starts to feel like fall in Central Florida. No better way to spend it than at the Magic Kingdom. So here we are. Let's go have an adventure Jude, shall we? Mm-hmm. Let's go. Crossing over the bridge. The Adventureland sign. Directly above, to our right, is what is now course, Club 33. To our right, the Sunshine Tree Terrace, home of the Orange Bird.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Usually a very long line. Not too bad today. It is a Halloween party night, so the park is going to close early. So the crowds are usually a little lighter. Which is nice. There are around the park there are various photo ops.
Starting point is 00:02:37 There's one here directly across from Sunshine Tree Terrace with the 20,000 leagues under the sea. Which is really cool. Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen, world famous jungle cuisine to our right. What are your thoughts on the old Skipper Canteen? I love the theming.
Starting point is 00:03:09 Because I'm a big Jungle Cruise nerd. What about the food? Is it too adventurous for some of you? Jude, is it too adventurous for you? It's okay. It's okay. You heard it here first, folks. Dr. Fall's signature steak. You got the taste like chicken, dot dot dot, because it is.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Junior Skip's macaroni and cheese. Kids meal. Where is that? This is for the statue? Okay. For beverages, you have a non-alcoholic specialty, Enchanted Orange Dream. Dole Whip Orange blended with vanilla soft serve and served with an
Starting point is 00:04:02 orange candy rim. Well that sounds delightful. So this first part of Adventureland, the architecture, if you look around, is very bohemian looking. Very Caribbean style of architecture. Tropical that way. gets into a more African, Asian influenced architecture. Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse to our left. You guys want to climb a tree?
Starting point is 00:05:07 I don't know if there's a whole lot of music up there. But you know what? We're here. Jude, let's go climb a tree. Let's see what happens. I've always loved the treehouse. It often goes overlooked by so many. Some really great views up there. The story itself is always fun. And it still has a turnstile. Wow! Look at that. One of the only ones left with Magic Kingdom.
Starting point is 00:06:11 Alright, here's the first sign. On this site, July 17th, 1805. Oh, July 17th. Wink, wink. We know what that date is. Swiss Family Robinson. Composed of myself, my good wife, and three sons. Fritz, Ernst, and little Francis. We're on the sole survivors, by the grace of God, of the ill-fated ship Swallow. From the wreckage, we built our home in this tree for protection on this uncharted shore. That's from Fran... what is that? Fronds? Fronds? Does it say fronds? It's hard to read. There's trees over there.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Covering it. I guess it really does go off to unlooked. Overlooked. Alright. Onward. Over the bridge. To the tree Here we've begun the stair climb. The music even kind of changes the higher up you get.
Starting point is 00:07:41 It's still ambient music from the Benjelang, but you hear it from a different perspective. Here we go, Swiss polka. I have to get out! I have to get out! I have to get out! Let me at this! Please don't do that! Please, really don't do that! Don't do that! I have to get out! George, stop! Why?
Starting point is 00:08:22 Oh, I did see it. I'm so sorry. More people than expected up here. It's getting kinda crowded. Got a beautiful view here from the top. Cinderella Castle, you can see Tron, you can see Space Mountain. Jungle Lookout. In this compound we often pause Mountain. Spider. Jungle lookout. In this compound we often pause to contemplate our small world. Here adventure beckons with every view and every sound.
Starting point is 00:09:34 The jungle and its river call out their mystery and invite us to new discovery. Hey Jude. What do you think, which tree do you think is bigger, this one or the Tree of Life? Probably the Tree of Life. It would be interesting to know. Research! I think we know the answer. It would be interesting to see the exact answer for that question. On our way down now. Down towards the bottom, here's the library. These good books, the recording of man's ideas and achievements, were salvaged from our ship.
Starting point is 00:10:39 We shall never hunger of food for the mind nor the soul. Franz. Yeah, so nor the soul. Franz. Yeah, so it's Franz. Franz Robinson. The ship's log. There's a map. Bunch of books. Down at the very bottom is the kitchen and dining room, complete with running water, volcanic stone hearth and oven, utensils of our own making and salvage from the wrecked swallow.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Plus nature's bounty and my good wife's cooking amply fulfill our wants. One last wrap around. And we're back out to Adventureland. Alright, directly in front of us, Spitting Camel, the magic carpets of Aladdin. A beautiful breeze. We're going left. If you didn't know what sound magic carpets make, that was it. Directly in front of us now is Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. To the left, steps down to Jungle Cruise. And then you've got these guys spitting water all over the place. Making drum sounds and spitting water. Jude, you know what these are lovingly referred to as?
Starting point is 00:13:11 Leaky Tiki's. The Leaky Tiki's. Nice little refreshing water playground here. Where to, Judy dude? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 dedication to thy brother, Andy Aylor. Where ever you be. Attention all skippers, the gorillas have the dot box. Every road is gone, yet we'll be in our own When home is gone, we'll be far away I'm a road of stone, roofing tall walls I'm a road of stone, roofing tall walls I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at.
Starting point is 00:14:26 I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at.
Starting point is 00:14:42 I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. I thought I knew where the bag was at. And the conference is ringing The fairies shout and cry for the fall But the sky is the quietest place And the music is on and on Seven, eight, and the time I leave And seven, eight, and the time I leave And they wake up for heaven. I'm gonna smile and wave up for heaven. I'm gonna smile and wave up for heaven. St.Petersburg So if you're lucky enough to hit the extended queue, which most days you usually will on
Starting point is 00:16:04 the Jungle Cruise, being as popular as it is, look up while you're in there, because when you go into the second part of the boathouse, there's a lot of cool stuff that you'll miss if you don't look up that helps to tell the story of the Jungle Navigation Company. One thing I thought was cool that I noticed is the uniforms that are hanging up. It's basically a history of the actual uniforms from the Jungle Cruise, starting with the flowery Hawaiian shirt to the khakis that you know now.
Starting point is 00:16:42 It's pretty cool. Fun little details. What? Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. No! No!
Starting point is 00:17:56 I'm coming! I breathed their balls! You're gonna give up? Yes. Watch your head, watch your step, use that handrail. The same thing goes for you. Don't cross it sideways, piece of wood. You see it? See it? Cool. All right, watch your head, watch your step, use that handrail. All right, on behalf of everyone, for your safety, please remain fully seated, keeping your hands on your feet, legs inside the boat,
Starting point is 00:18:53 parents, supervisors, children. You have to stay fully seated. Cool. Clear. All right, everyone wave goodbye to the dock. Sorry. That doesn't make sense. Wave goodbye to the people on the dock.
Starting point is 00:19:10 It makes a little bit more sense. Yeah. Now do me a favor. Wave goodbye to my biggest fans. Wave like you mean it. They're on the ceiling. I've never seen those people in my life. No, like literally, I've never seen those people.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Well, hello, everyone. Welcome to the World Famous Jumbo Cruise. My name is Skipper Maddie. Quick boat orientation for you before we get underwater. Sorry, underway. Before we get underway. If you look up, you'll see the top of the boat. If you look down, you'll see the bottom of the boat.
Starting point is 00:19:38 And at any point during our journey, the two switch. Swim. Cool, glad we got that covered. All right, well we're gonna start a three week journey here in the Amazon. We have quite a few bugs. Our most popular being our butterflies. Our butterflies here have a wingspan of about 12 inches
Starting point is 00:19:54 to a whopping one foot. So we call them the rulers of the jungle. Thank you. True monarchs, true monarchs. Over here is Inspiration Falls. We call it that because of the deep-reef stairs and that running, gushing water. The more inspired you are to go deeper and deeper and deeper into the jungle. Well, we're now making our way to the Congo River and we're going to see how far this boat can go. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Alright, Mount Borneo is bringing the Nile River down the Nile River, goes on for Niles, and Niles, and the Isles, and if you don't believe me, you are in... Niles. The boat. You're currently in the boat, very good child though, very good child though. Wow. Okay, do me a favor, look down at the ground, you'll see your feet. They can grow up to four feet. Okay, now I'm going to take the African delts and animals for you.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Up top are some long neck cheetahs. In the middle are some chevy and ball. I don't know. Oh, no. Oh, no. It looks like we just entered a massive hippo pool. Woo, look at that, that guy's scared. Hold on, I think I can scare them off.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Hold on, let me try. Um, I love you. There it is, yeah. Um, I want a committed relationship. Don't worry, don't worry, they won't bother us anymore. It's actually how I scare away my ex. Nope, don't hurt, it's alright. Now, ooh, oh wow, these chimpanzees really took over that boat.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Wow. Alright, well they look like they're going a little bananas, so I think it's our time to spoil. Alright, well, after the mom and the mom and ranch, we're the amazing, beastly, kind of, sea car wash. The best part of the world. The! Best! Side! Of! Water! become awesome, the A-Chan of the world. The Backside of Water! O-2-H!
Starting point is 00:22:11 O-2-H! O-2-H! Hey. Hey, sorry. Tend to make chemistry jokes periodically. Won't happen again, sorry. While we're out here in the Maycomb River, here in Cambodia, over there is my beautiful friend Shirley.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Hi Shirley. Oh. Well that must make this Shirley's temple. Alright, well we're gonna go in here without terrifying the dark side. I'm gonna close my eyes, you keep yours open, okay? Perfect. I'll see you on the other side. Okay, I think we all made it out. Raise your hand if you did not make it.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Anyone did not make it? One, two, three, four, five, six. Only six? Wow. Significantly better than I normally do. My 6, I'll be back for you in about 10 to 12 minutes, okay? Cool. Well, we're now here in our Indian outfit bathing pool. If anyone wants to take any pictures or videos, go right ahead. They do all have their trunks on today.
Starting point is 00:23:40 Yeah, they're trunks. Okay, we're over here in T-Baby. I was just playing on a full moon. Oh. Thank you for laughing at that, sir. I was not gonna explain that one. Anyways, I know people often think that that's water coming out of their trunks. It's not.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Oh. Oh. I can't, I don't know. Anyways, all right. Well, here in just a second, we're gonna head all the way back up to the dock. Now, when we get to the dock and y'all start to get out, when you start to get out, please be very careful.
Starting point is 00:24:09 This is a real boat. It is going to rock. You just don't want to make it when it rolls. It's a royal head thing, okay? Yeah. Also, please make sure you guys note the same door you came in. Don't cross over anything crossing over. It's a haunted mansion thing, and we don't do that here, okay? Okay. Anyways, quick sign that the rest of you can tune out for two seconds.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Sir, you do know your shirt's in the wrong spot, correct? That's not here. Yeah, you're on the wrong side of the country. It's a Disneyland Jungle Cruise shirt. For context, for those of you who didn't tune out. Yeah, you're, you're, yeah. Yeah. Skipper gave me directions.
Starting point is 00:24:55 Oh, that, you know what, that makes a lot of sense, actually. I'm not going to lie to you. That makes a lot of sense. Yeah. Did you do that on purpose? Yes. You sounded hesitant on that one. You said, yes? Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Yes, yes, okay. Be confident. Yeah, sure. Bless you. I'm never confident in anything I do. So be confident. Yeah. Live vicariously through me, please. Because I just go in circles all day. Yeah. Anyways. Okay. Well, I hope you make your way back home. I think, if that's your home, I really don't know. No? Oh, okay. So is this your home? Oh. Well, I'm glad you made it home safe. Yeah. Okay, we're going to head back to dock now. Okay, over here. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:47 For your safety, please remain fully seated, keeping your hands, arms, feet, and life inside the boat. Parents, supervise your children. Well, you guys have been absolutely outstanding. Truly. I'll be here in just a second. I will need y'all to be outstanding on the dock and out of my boat. Yeah. on the dock and out of my boat. Yeah, so from the very bottom of my very small, tiny, khaki, almost non-existent khaki,
Starting point is 00:26:12 khaki, did I say khaki? Khaki colored heart, so, you know, get out, sorry, sorry that was so rude, please get out. It's a little, ah, thank you. All right, watch your step. Use that handrail. Have a great day, everybody. All right. Off to Jungle Couch. Passed by the Leaky Tiki's again.
Starting point is 00:26:52 Which I believe, when I was little, they used to be down closer to the Jungle Cruise ride. And then I moved them up here. Turned them into a water feature. Let's go to the Tiki Ranger. Oh Oh my turnstiles I'm, uh, now listen now, it's right on the tip of my beak. Clyde Birdbrain? Oh yeah, I'm Clyde Birdbrain. I said, perhaps you could be a little bit more specific, you can't be more quiet. Well, anyway, one day we discovered this magic sunshine thing. I told yes, I remember just how it happened. There were many, many, very far together.
Starting point is 00:27:46 There we were in an explorer's launch on a mysterious river in deepest adventure land. Off in the distance comes the fierce roar of an African lion. And as we round the bend in the river, a huge bull elephant barrel-storched in protest of our intrusion. Suddenly, the teetots exploded in a frenzy of outraged birds. Oh, come, come, you enjoyable new-bez of man! I can char their way, I'll be one of the time! while they wait for the big one to turn. Meanwhile, Shifty-Eyed Crocodile's left by the water's edge. Bark, bark, bark! And the giant hyphen slivers down from an overhanging fence.
Starting point is 00:28:45 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHLL I never even got my leave! Hey guys, that was a me-up, friend. Sorry to interrupt whatever you were talking about, but, time to head into the show. Hey... For Christ's sake, it's already showtime? For God's sake, Justin, it isn't already showtime. And as the time ran correctly, Claude entered the door and started making announcements. Let's go. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, gather up all your cameras, purses, and other articles, and now turn to your left towards the tall door. When it comes beginning, they will open magically to lead you right into the Sunshine Pavilion. Is everybody ready? Are you and everybody ready?

My voice may not be so marvelous, but my profile is out of this world. Yeah, boy, but the trouble is, it's not far enough out of this world. It's not right here, Schmidt. But, boy, I see Schmidt has no hair.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Me, amigo, stop the clucking. You sound like a bunch of old hens. There's a lot of birds waiting to go on. For instance... The boys in the back are calling me... Let's all sing like the birds sing. Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba. Let's all sing like the birdies sing. Let's all sing like the birdies sing.
