Welcome everybody to another edition of Walk About The World.
I am your host today, Pete. And I am here at Disney's Animal Kingdom with a special guest.
Special guest, say hello.
Hello.
Our special guest today is Keeper Kate.
And we are walking around Disney's Animal Kingdom.
So, come join us.
Alright, so we walked in the front gates.
We're walking up the main, the right road. And we hang out on the right hand side.
And we came upon a little waterfall and some birds okay what kind
of birds are these we look we've got some nene geese right here and some shell ducks looks like
we're gonna say hello to these critters and we're gonna keep going let's keep going
all right so we passed up uh the geese in the back,
and we're headed up here, still on the same path,
headed towards the Tree of Life.
But we did stop here to see...
What's the correct pronunciation of these?
I can't talk.
Babirusa.
Oh, it's the Babirusa.
That's what we are here for.
We're going to keep walking this way
and see what we can see.
It's probably one of the best views here at Animal Kingdom
is when you walk through on the bridge
and you see the Tree of Life for the first time.
Very common photo spot. I think it's going to be a good idea. All right, we've reached the Tree of Life.
Kate, which way do you want to go?
Do you want to go left or do you want to go right?
Let's go left towards Africa.
All right, left towards Africa it is.
All right, so if you hang a left before you get to Tree of Life,
we come over here and it looks like we have some red kangaroos
and some lapid-faced vulture.
How did I do?
Is that good?
There's also some lesser flamingos, too.
And lesser flamingos.
Any sign of the kangaroos?
Hi, how are you?
I'm good, how are you?
I'm great, thank you.
Kangaroos, are they out?
I don't see them on this side.
If you head straight this way,
and then you're going to see a blue umbrella to your right,
head to another right.
You'll be able to walk in front of the tree of life
and get a better view of the yard.
Perfect, thank you so much.
This right here is one of the lesser known purple boxes.
And a squirrel.
And a squirrel.
Alright, so we're going to head this way and see if we can see the otters. Otters are out.
Two, three.
Three otters.
While we're on this journey, Kate,
is there an animal that you like to see when you're at Animal Kingdom?
I always love to see some white rhinos.
And, of course, the giraffe.
They're one of my favorites, too.
Of course.
All right, so she had said get to the blue umbrella and hang a right.
Let's hang a right here and see if we can see the kangaroos.
Big old catfish right here. Let's see if we can't snap a photo of said catfish
the keepers actually do a lot of training with that catfish which is pretty cool
because when you think about training animals you don't ever think of fish. But it's pretty neat.
Look at that. Learn something new every day.
Let's see if we can see the red kangaroo.
So we are currently on one of the paths around the tree of life this would be the path in front
of the tree of life as we wind around here to our right would be the bridge that brought us here and
to the left would be the tree of life oh i see a sleeping kangaroo.
We'll snap a photo for you for this episode.
Alright.
There's one more farther back too.
Oh.
And one right up here.
And one right here.
For your close-up.
Oh, that's a better photo. We'll take a photo of that one for you
perfect
alright let's continue on the path here
and see the tree of life
now when you look at the tree of life
what's the first animal you see that's carved in the tree
right now
I see a rhino
shocking I see a bird bird right in front I
think it's one of the coolest things because when you come here I've obviously been living down here
for a couple years now and anytime you look at the tree you always see something you didn't see before. Whether it's on the roots or the tree itself.
Like this turtle.
The tenth wonder of the world.
The backside of water.
Another rhino for you.
Alright, so headed back back down the path on the other side of the Tree of Life.
This would be, we're basically facing Everest at this point.
And we'll see the animals at the end. What are the animals at the end here?
They got that like, that tail. Is it a lemur maybe?
Yep, ring-tailed lemurs. There you go. Ring-tailed lemur.
Let's take a snap a photo.
Oh, multiples.
Multiples.
Foraging for food, possibly.
Like, where did I leave that?
Excuse me.
All right.
All right, so we're headed out.
The exit to this path is right where we meet Russell and Doug.
And it looks like I see a favorite of Keeper Kate's.
Kate, who do we see over there?
Kevin!
It's Kevin. We're going to go see how she is.
Let's go.
Kevin is drawing quite the crowd this afternoon.
With good reason it's Kevin There's a woman
There is no line or queue
If you would like to take photos
Take the photo wherever you want Well it's, take them for a photo, whatever you want.
Well, it's Kevin.
Did you get a photo?
I snapped a photo for you guys.
So Kevin usually meets right outside
the Discovery Trading Company,
and she is always on the move.
She's currently on the move right in front of us.
All right, Kate, so we've seen Kevin.
We've walked around a little bit.
Do you want to go to Dinoland?
Or do you want to go into Asia?
Let's head to Asia.
Alright, let's go.
Kevin made my day.
Kevin made your day?
Kevin's one of the better one of the better character interactions here because she is always on the move.
So not just one place to spot her.
She's always walking around. Hello.
That's so great.
That's so great.
So I think here at Animal Kingdom you can meet Kevin.
You can meet Mickey and Minnie in their
safari costumes.
Moana.
Russell and Doug.
Who else am I missing? Anyone else? Oh, Chippendale, headed into Asia,
we have Drinkwala on our right.
Insert a Counting Blue Cars slash Dishwalla joke here.
So you come up to Yak and Yeti.
So we got this way, right towards Yak and Yeti,
or do you want to go left towards Harambe?
Right.
Right. Let's head right.
Yeah, I don't know where we're going to go to open tomorrow.
The crowds seem pretty light here,
which is a good thing.
A little bit later in the day.
Sun behind the clouds.
A lot of soaked people walking around from Kali.
Looks like Kali is open again. Who are these guys up here?
Some Gibbons, looks like.
They're not making too much noise right now, though.
Ooh, I see two.
I see one inside and one hanging on
for dear life.
Let's see if we can't
snap a photo of
at least this guy here.
They're quiet for a change.
It's one of my favorite noises to hear all the way at the hotel in the mornings.
It's crazy.
You can hear it all the way at the hotel from here.
We got ducks, we got baby ducks, we got other ducks,
and we have a big bunny.
We're going to take a photo of this mother duck with her baby ducks
because one of our other hosts, Havoc Jedi, is a big duck fan.
So we will take some duck photos.
They're in a cuddle puddle.
A cuddle puddle.
Heard it here first.
And then the women are over there as well.
Alright, let's keep walking.
Let's see if we can't head over to the Maharaja Jungle Trek. Alright, some wayfinding here.
We are headed straight towards the jungle track.
On the left-hand side we have the lockers
and the little fountains where kids are
soaking themselves.
I'm not even quite sure what's happening right there.
Oh.
Alright.
We are headed into the jungle trek.
Let's see what we can see.
Or hear.
Hello.
Hello, thank you.
Thank you.
First up
is
Komodo Dragon.
The Komodo Dragon.
Let's see if we can get a better
view over here
and make a
take a quick photo of the Komoto
got a waterfall All right.
The Komodo dragon is out and active.
Hello.
How are you?
Doing well, thank you.
Awesome.
You recording something?
Sure am.
Oh, sorry if I was interrupting you.
No, no, no, not at all.
That was the call of our Argus pheasant, Alfred.
What's the pheasant's name?
Alfred.
And yes, he's named after Alfred Hitchcock.
That's great.
You know, the birds.
That's great.
That's great.
We're going to make our way.
Oh, that's him too?
Yeah, kind of sounds like he's trying to make a call to everybody.
His girlfriend tends to get a little jealous about that.
Oh, really?
All right.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Well, look at that.
All right.
Keepers in the wild.
Keepers in the wild.
I think we probably have a better view over here
But the three
One of the keepers told me one time
I believe they're three like they're related
I don't think they're sisters
All the way to the top.
Pepper, he's up there.
These are a bracket distance.
That's what our monkeys have to eat.
Alright, headed into the bat house.
It's bats.
Maybe we'll see Bruce Wayne.
If you want, mad houses are a really good way to help out bats
if you do have any that live near you.
If you know that they will come, there's materials lists that you can find online.
I would recommend you to batcon.org, B-A-T-C-O-N dot O-R-G to get started.
Cool, thank you.
My pleasure.
All right.
Yeah, but guess what? You're a a big girl so you can stand up and walk
it is bat feeding time
and it looks like she has
watermelon maybe
papaya
or maybe watermelon. And this bat
is upside down and she is changing out some food for the bat. I think you're right. I
think it is. You're going in for the night? Yeah. Wow. Alright. We will continue on.
Oh, you're good. Thank you.
We are headed towards
the tiger enclosure.
I know. Come
October when I renew it. the tiger enclosure up the stairs
am I right in thinking that those are
water buffalo in the back?
probably not that was a guess
they're definitely an ungulate
the keyword actually peewee's big adventure where you do the word of the day i think we just found
the word of the day we're gonna go take a closer look to find out what those ungulates are.
And this is for the handicapped and for the strollers to be able to see them.
Do you see them?
Yeah.
Well from up there you might be able to see them. You see he's taking a nap in the shade.
And the dirt might be keeping it cool.
Waiting by the door for his feeding.
You want to go in there and have fun with the tigers?
The tigers might be here.
All right, we are keeping on in the Maharaja Jungle Trek.
Sorry guys, thank you.
Alright.
Continuing on.
This would be a better view of the tigers.
This is the first time I've seen a tiger
out here in a long time.
Yeah, that was really cool.
Just hanging out.
Doing what cats do best.
Yes.
So what do we have up here?
Looks like water buffalo.
Was I right?
I think I was right.
You were.
Yes!
Yes!
One right here.
Look at how big they are.
Several over here.
All right, so for those that don't know, what is an ungulate?
It's basically a fancy word for something with hooves.
All right, well, hoofstock, would that be a synonym?
Correct.
All right, there we go.
I'm going to take a picture of these guys here.
If you want to get even deeper, they're separated into groups by if they have an even number of toes or an odd number of toes.
There you go.
There you go.
All right, moving on.
I'm going to try to get through this
trick.
Yes, yes.
Alright, we got
possibly another tiger up here.
If the tiger is out.
Wow, look at that.
What do we got over here?
Bar-headed geese.
Bar-headed geese.
I could tell you a few stories about some bar-headed geese.
So are those all bar-headed geese?
All the different ones? Brown ones and white ones?
Just the white ones with the
bars on their heads.
Ah, look at that. Makes sense.
That makes sense.
And then over here
is typically a tiger.
And the only time I've ever seen the tigers
would be way in the back, up against
the wall. So maybe if we go around
we'll be able to have a better view of them.
Do you hear the drumming in the distance?
That is Kali River Rapids.
That is on your way up before you
have no idea what's about to happen.
And...
Whoa. have no idea what's about to happen. And...
Whoa.
Whoa.
Let's see if we have Any other tigers
I do not see any Thank you.
Thank you.
Alright.
We are in the aviary.
Aviary, right?
Okay.
The only advice I've ever been given in here is if you look up, keep your mouth closed.
Seems like pretty sound advice.
There's a Victoria Crown pigeon over there. Victoria Crown Pigeon
Let's take a photo of that real quick.
There's a lot of activity here in the aviary right now? That's good old Alfred.
My goodness. I think you guys should have Alfred as your next guest host. Yeah, I was going to say he's very vocal.
Very vocal.
Alfred.
Through the chains, to the other side.
We made it out.
I don't see any bird poop on me.
I think we did good.
There, there are those drums. The drums are louder
and louder. Those are from
Kali River Rapids and the
attraction next door. Alfred
Alfred
you can hear him from miles away
thank you for visiting
Maharaja Jungle Trek. Thank you. Go!
Go!
All right, well, that concludes this episode.
