Walkabout The World - A Disney Podcast - Disney's Hollywood Studios - Baseline Taphouse Chat Discussing Disneyland Lounges With Listener Linz
Episode Date: May 28, 2022Hello Travelers! The show this week is all about your answers to the question posed by Producer Josh on Instagram about your favorite bars and lounges of Disneyland Resort! Join Jeremy and Josh f...or a walk and talk through Disney's Hollywood Studios, where we end up at Baseline Taphouse for a conversation with listener Linz (who happens to be better at podcasting that we are but we're definitely NOT bitter). Linz is our west coast expert who just happened to be visiting WDW with his husband and graciously took some time for us. We read your answers, have some drinks, and generally make everyone around us feel uncomfortable. A practically perfect day. Find Linz on Instagram: @linzismagical. As always, use good listening devices as we always record in 4 channel surround sound. We hope you enjoy the episode and thanks so much for following along! Look us up at @WalkaboutWDW on Instagram and drop us a note to say hi! Find our producer Josh also on Instagram at @TheSteele. Say hi to our west coast correspondent Ric at @KiltedJediRic. Lastly give a shout to our Orlando correspondent Pete at @neverlandlocal. You can now also drop us at line at contact@walkabouttheworld.com. Say hi, give us some suggestions on things you'd love to hear, or even record your own 'Hello Traveler' show open when you are out and about, and we'll work it into a future show! Walkabout The World is a weekly Disney Podcast, always recorded on property with the simple goal of making you feel like you are in the Disney parks.

Oh, you got a sniffle, huh?
Oh my god, have I mentioned my allergies are killing me?
Hello, travelers, and welcome back to Walk About the World, your weekly audio stroll through the parks and resorts of Walt Disney World
and the occasional drop-in to Disneyland in California.
Speaking of drop-ins, Jeremy, where are we? Hey, everybody.
We are in the Hollywood that never was and always will be
at the intersection of Gower and Sunset Boulevard.
What's at Gower and Sunset Boulevard?
The Tower of Terror is directly behind us.
We're standing at the stone arch.
I believe this is a neighborhood entrance.
Maybe.
I think it's still there in the real world.
It's based on something.
Sunset Hills Estates, it says.
That must be a neighborhood.
Established 1928.
It's a gated neighborhood.
Mickey Mouse was also established in 1928.
That must be a coinky dinky.
It's got to be.
The wait time for Tower is 125 minutes right now, standby.
I was going to do that, but not anymore.
And 85 for Rockin' Roller Coaster, so that's a bummer too.
I was going to do that as well.
So alas, I'm just going to talk with Josh.
We're going to save that for another walkabout, I think.
But today we are serving up some West Coast love.
I mean, we're in a Hollywood theme park.
Where's Hollywood? It's in California.
Hollywood state of mind.
It's in California.
Today we're going to give you a little bit of West Coast love from the East Coast on our walk and talk about.
Later on we're going to have a guest joining us who is indeed from the west coast
as a disneylander and uh we're gonna save that for a secret for later yeah well yeah okay i do
believe he's been a follower of ours since the very beginning which that's called a tease in the
professional broadcasting world there you go maybe i don't know so we'll we'll save that for later but
first let's take you on a walkabout.
We're going to start here.
Taking the vibes of the old Sunset Boulevard.
It is a sultry day.
Is that accurate?
I'm not sure it is.
Moist?
No.
No, sultry is probably a better word.
Going off the rails quickly here.
It was 97% humidity before I was driving over here.
No, that's not a joke.
No, I think it was like 78 degrees, but it feels like 90-something.
It's only going to get worse.
That's Florida, baby.
It's only going to get worse.
I love this vantage point, though.
Carthay Circle in the distance.
Hollywood Scoops.
Oh, man.
It's a good one.
Hollywood Scoops has actually sounded pretty good already.
It's already melted by the time you get it.
We were discussing whether beer would be appropriate
at this time of day.
Many seem to think so. Hollywood Scoops
definitely would be. Hey, there's
our street sign. Yeah, I think
that means it's time to go.
Let's take a little bit of a walkabout
here. Let's do it.
Down Sunset Boulevard. So, let's take a little bit of a walkabout here. Let's do it. All right.
Down Sunset Boulevard.
I always look at the visitors that bring umbrellas for Sunshade and think they are geniuses.
And I never do that.
Why do we do that?
I have one in the car and it's... It keeps people away from you.
It's great.
It's quite brilliant when you put it that way.
The hats, they do nothing.
Protects my bald head and keeps the sun from basting me.
It's time to begin the beguine, Josh. Theater of the Stars to our left.
Featuring Beauty and the Beast.
Why does Fairfax Fair have no one in line?
Doesn't look very open to me.
Next register, please.
Can we wander over to Fairfax Fair briefly?
You can always read menus from the app, but that's boring.
What do they got at Fairfax Fair?
Aha.
First off, we have an all beef quarter pound hot dog
And if there's anything that goes well
With 97 degrees
It's a
All beef quarter pound hot dog
And to top that off
You can throw some macaroni and cheese on there
And have truffle bacon and macaroni and cheese hot dog
And just go straight to the first aid tent
Pretzel dog actually looks great.
So this is a hot dog thing now?
It is.
California dog and a Chicago style dog.
Apparently Fairfax is just hot dog land.
All dogs all the time.
That explains why there's no wine and wine.
Too hot for hot dogs.
It is a good seating area.
Except for the fact you will fry.
Not too bad yet.
Do you remember what a beguine is, Josh?
What is a beguine?
Enlighten us.
It's a dance.
So we're going to begin the beguine.
Yeah, we're going to begin the, you know, dance number.
We're referring to the song if you haven't figured that we're going to begin the, you know, dance number. We're referring to the song, if you haven't figured that out yet.
Sorry, yes, it's playing right now.
How do you spell beguine?
I have no idea.
Research.
Research.
Sunset Ranch, pins and souvenirs.
Oh, I was going to say, they brought back the red car trolley.
Of course, we don't have the actual one, so it's gone for a while.
Actually, I don't know what that...
Oh, it's an art?
Yeah, it's like a caricature.
Well, that's cool.
It used to be a little merchandise place.
Dude, and it looks like...
I never even noticed this.
Man, I'm not describing things well.
I'm tired, folks.
Let's go take a photo.
Yeah.
What Jeremy cannot describe, we can photograph.
It looks like a street car,
and it has the thing on top that connects to the power line.
Yeah.
Who framed Roger Rabbit style.
Yes. There's your crying child.
Can't have an episode without it. I just chased you all the way around the streetcar.
It's almost as though you were dancing to Bikini.
Almost.
Carthay Circle to the left.
Beautiful building.
Much smaller than the one in California.
Ice cold air conditioning, however.
Yes.
Probably the one in California, Ice cold air conditioning, however. Yes. Probably the one in California, too.
Actually,
my buddy who lives in California
says a bunch of people
don't have air conditioning out there
because they don't need it
because the weather's perfect.
And I'm like,
shut up!
Never this humid, for sure.
The sun fries you,
but you don't sweat as much. What does a pretzel
have to do with produce? Hot pretzels, fresh fruit, frozen lemonade, frozen margaritas.
Anaheim Produce sells pretzels. Unique craft beers. Yeah, you know, California is known
for its oranges. Citruses, yeah. And its pretzel trees.
Obviously.
Yeah.
They don't get as...
But it is right next to the Sunshine Day bar.
So that's where those libations are coming from.
I think that's often closed.
I don't see that open often.
Speaking of libations,
okay, we'll tell you.
Today we're going to
open it up to you guys. We're going to
talk about
for when we get there.
We're going to head over to Baseline Tap
House today and
chill there for a bit. We'll meet up with our guests
and we're going to discuss some some west coast this is the part two of the uh favorite uh favorite
lounges and bars drinkeries but this time it's a west coast version If you believe in magic, you belong.
I'm just looking at the winter romances.
Summer adventures and winter romances.
That must be why Disney Vacation Club costs so much.
Wait for it, you guys here. Justic Theater passing now where the stars shine.
Next to that is a little Art Deco-style building with primary color scheme.
Looks like it's straight out of Mickey Pants.
Yeah, it looks like Mickey Pants. Yeah.
Looks like Mickey Pants
or it looks like...
Sorry.
To me, it's very Dick Tracy.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Address on it says 94,
which I believe is the year
that this section of the park opened up.
Tower of Terror and...
Did it open in stages?
Yeah, this didn't open with the park.
Oh, dang.
See, I learned something today.
Yeah.
Sunset Boulevard was an expansion.
This is my favorite building on Sunset Boulevard, by the way.
Beverly Sunset.
Boutique.
Used to be the villain's store.
Also used to be a bakery.
A bakery with tons of baked goods.
Now you have to go to Starbucks to get that.
But I really like it.
Looks great.
Neon at night.
Yes, it's the best neon that they have.
My favorite neon at the studios, which brings me back to my childhood.
Kind of makes me a little sad because whenever I saw it, I knew it was time to go home.
It's the Pluto shaking his tail, wagging his tail.
Oh, yeah.
It's the very beginning.
Yeah.
Yep. beginning.
So I'm pointing like you guys can see what I'm pointing to around the corner from Beverly Sunset building. What did that used to be right here?
Starring roles cafe. It used to be an open window here you could sit. Didn't it? It's the cafe, right? Is that what it was?
Yeah, outside of Brown Derby.
Yeah.
Starring roles, it was called.
One of the best places to sit, but it's not an eatery anymore.
Just the umbrellas. Where shall we wander?
Echo Lake direction?
We can go that way.
We can go right.
We can go left.
Wherever.
You, uh...
I haven't been toward Toy Story in a while.
Let's go.
Let's go that way.
Yeah. wherever you haven't been toward Toy Story wow let's go let's go that way
leaving that ambience behind Chattanooga choo-choo
have you been to the brown derby lounge Josh that video night. With her boys.
I want to poke around the corner to see if I can remember that guy's name. I
think it's Tom but they've had the same bartender there for years. Used to have a
really really good... see now I forgot what it's called's called dang I'll come back to you
used to have an amazing drink there but it's gone now
can we revisit
last time I was at Brown Derby they had changed the menu
a bit too
I've never been still good
everybody says I need to have the salad
Cobb salad
is you know my wife would say it's overrated
okay because the first time I took her there I said she had to have the salad Cobb salad is you know my wife would say it's overrated okay
because the first time
I took her there
I said she had to have
the salad
and then she kind of
was
you know
not all the way
she's like a salad dude
the brown derby
invented the Cobb salad
that's the whole point
you gotta have the
Cobb salad at the
brown derby
there's a story
behind that
entering the courtyard for There's a story behind it.
Entering the courtyard for Chinese Theater and Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway in front of us.
So I'm definitely having Star Wars Weekends vibes today.
Gosh, I really miss it.
Because this is the time, man.
Late May, boiling hot and humid.
They'd be doing the intros out here.
They'd be having the parade with the 501st and the special guests coming down the street.
And I really miss the heck out of it. They have somewhat of a reunion this weekend, though, at Megacon.
They do.
Ashley Eckstein, Matt Lanter, James Arnold Taylor.
Yeah.
Dang it.
I love my Batuu, but I miss my Star Wars weekends.
They need to find a way to mold, mix, mash the two. They can make it happen. Okay. Off around the corner.
Fun fact. Some of the only deciduous trees in this park directly ahead.
I'm sure you guys are dying to know that.
They have some meaning.
Oh, they lose their leaves.
There you go.
Yes, that's right.
They're sycamores.
One of my favorite photos I've ever taken that I show in my photography classes,
strangely enough, is of these trees when they're bare.
And there's one single leaf on it.
It tells a story, man. And every year when they leaf bare. And there's one single leaf on it. Tells a story now.
And every year when they leaf out, I'm like, yes!
It's time for awesome summerness and also
thunderstorms and also
sweating very badly.
They do look very different
this time of year, that's for sure.
Headed down the steps
to our right, the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
Closed. Is it?
Wait, it is, right?
Looks that way. I don't think it's ever
reopened again. And then
coming up is Walt Disney Presents
which currently
has a Lightyear
sneak preview
in place of the
which I'm looking forward to.
The Lightyear movie? Yeah. Okay.
I'll give it a chance.
It's fun. I don't think they've marketed it well enough for people to understand exactly what it is. Right. You
can meet Sully? Sweet. They used to have the Sully meet and greet around the corner from
the big misting Coke machine and next to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids playground.
Yes, they had the door, the booze door.
Just because we can.
Yeah, we're going to walk down through what used to be the Pixar...
What was it called?
Pixar Courtyard.
Used to be the main entrance to Midway Mania.
And across the street was a store where you could buy various Toy Story related Pixar thingies.
And the army men would come out down here.
A meet and greet too, right?
Was it a meet and greet?
Yeah, they had Andy's bedroom in here.
Oh dang, the store is totally... there's nothing. Wow.
It's pretty dead here. Hey, dang. The store is totally... There's nothing. Wow. It's pretty dead here.
Hey, the music is still here.
Take in some...
Toy Story music.
Is this actually used for anything now?
I don't even know why it's open right now.
I feel like you would see some characters at some point.
Yeah.
It looks like it's set for the Incredibles still.
It does.
Lots of Incredible posters hanging around.
Welcome home, Supers.
And through that door, well, again, you guys can't see because it's not a vlog.
We'll grab the picture.
But there's double doors now with the Incredibles logo on it.
And through that archway, you used to get to the Backlot Tour and, again, the Hunting Ash Runk the Kids.
Streets of America. Streets of America.
Streets of America.
All that good stuff.
And here to the right in this soundstage for a long time.
What was there?
Well, when they were active soundstages before they were the ride, that was part of the backstage tour.
And you could have the tubes at the top in the walking tour and you could look down.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I remember seeing Adventures in Wonderland being filmed there.
Passenger 57, the movie Wesley Snipes was filmed there.
Was this the era of Fortune?
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Play It was here.
Nope, missed that one.
Did they have a Star Wars Weekends thing in here?
They did, yeah.
They had the first,
I think, the first
incarnation of the
Darth Mauls in the
soundstage.
Oh, dude, that's
right, that's right.
Or you could go in
and experience some
ice cold AC and
buy Star Wars
doohickeys.
You got a friend
in me.
Ba-da-ba-da-da.
Ba-ba-ba- in me Josh and Jeremy sing the tunes
Holy on walk about the world
Sorry
And unsubscribe
There's a new billboard

The other day
I took a picture
Did you really?
I did
Oh
It was fun
Did not ruin my childhood
I took a picture In the Christmas store Of them Did you really? I did. Oh. It was fun. Did not ruin my childhood.
I took a picture in the Christmas store of them.
Holding their three nuts.
Good night, everybody.
I'll be here all week.
All right, we're taking a left out of whatever that was.
Headed towards Toy Story Land.
Toy Story Land, coming up.
Sizable number of people coming out.
This is what I noticed a little bit ago.
To your right, the back side of that building, you can still see the
Roy O. Disney Production Center sign from when it was part of the animation department.
That's cool, man. I've never noticed this. I'm going to take a picture.
And over to your right.
See, I learned things again.
Over the fence you can see the production buildings that used to be the animation production building.
Where's the barbecue thing going to go?
I think that's behind here.
I would say behind the fences here. I love Rex.
He's my favorite.
Oh, yeah.
We identify with him, Jeremy.
For he is the poster child for Anxiety.
He truly is.
Plus, I like the fact that he kind of talks like this a little bit.
Will that be your band?
Or all our bands?
Or how's that working out?
I know.
That's my favorite.
Slinky Dog goes by.
I know.
Where is Slinky Dog?
It is quiet.
Only $30 for a good way medium. I don't think she's back in the beginning of it.
I don't think, uh... I haven't seen a poster go by yet.
Yeah.
She must be down.
See? They get it.
Here's another thing on my list that I haven't done yet.
Woody's Lunchbox?
Yep.
To the left?
Yep.
Have you done?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, I've done breakfast there. No, I think I've done lunch too.
Not nearly enough seating, but some of the things...
Real cheesy.
Quite delicious.
I want the, um, the Pop-Tart thing.
Guys, it is, uh, it is a bustling one here today.
One would think it's almost Memorial Day.
We're not even thinking it, we're saying it.
That's right.
Listeners, it's almost Memorial Day.
Yep.
Depending on when we release this episode, it may be before or after.
That's true.
Swirling saucers to your right
they're not swirling right now wait there they go
let's get a little bit of that Thank you. This ride system is basically the new Dumbo.
You can see it at all the parks now. Another thing I was thinking,
you have your early morning beer,
throw a bacon and macaroni and cheese hot dog on that,
climb on the old swirling saucers.
Woo! You, baby!
There's your Disney memories for you.
Alright, continuing on. exiting the land of toys, entering the land of pew pew pew and rower.
That's not bad chewy.
It's good.
You could also refer it to the land of toys as toys basically made the fortune, right?
That's true.
It's like being in a giant playset too.
There's two giant plays sets next to each other.
I'm in plant mode. Nice little cool resting area to the left as you walk in.
Droid Depot straight ahead
It's right next to the space bathroom outflow area. Some cool Rey cosplay I see.
Love it.
Not really cosplay, Disney bounding I should say. Let's go into the droid depot.
Some of the best merch doohickeys. I think your buddy is going to go to the office.
Cool.
What is that? Can you see that guy?
A lot of stuff missing actually.
A little gunk.
A little gunk.
Yep, a little gunk. All the cool magnets and patches and stuff that I was looking for, they're not even in
there at all.
It's kind of weird.
I don't know if they've moved them or they've gone.
Stormtroopers to the left.
Stormy's up on the...
Stormtrooper.
Stormtrooper.
We got Catwalk, Gangway, whatever.
Let's take a picture of these fellas. Whatever.
Let's take a picture of these fellas.
Take a picture of these fellas.
They know what we're up to, Josh.
Avoid eye contact.
Avoid eye contact. Avoid eye contact. Avoid eye contact.
A graffitied wall for some unknown reason.
Yep.
Construction wall, that is.
Right next to the marketplace
in Ronto Roasters.
No, it's not Ronto's Roasters.
They're roasting Rontos.
Yeah, the little guy, the little robot.
His name's Kenny Ronto.
No!
Kenny Ronto, and he's roasting
Kenny Ronto's Roasters.
Does he know when to hold them and when to fold them?
If you're thinking, these guys have really stupid jokes.
Shout out to Honorary Android for that one.
Kenny Ronto is his deal.
Good, that's not our fault.
Yeah, you can't blame us for that.
I'm missing my, like... Refreshers?
You want to capture 30-some minutes of the space bathroom?
That's on the, uh...
I'm just saying, when the Wookiee eats his footlong hot dog
man, like it just
we're not even going to talk about
hit points
alright, we've passed the marketplace, the X-Wing is on your right, we've passed the marketplace.
The X-Wing is on your right.
Some of the coolest little merches in these little stands by the X-Wing.
Let's go look-y.
Take a look-sy.
Having a look-y.
Some space mayo.
Space mayo containers.
Still got plenty of Poe Dameron bags.
They do.
Looks like a Han Solo-style tunic.
What can only be described as a soup bowl, but it's got the...
What? Is that the symbol for Black Spire?
Yeah, it's like the Black Spire...
Black Spire soup bowl?
Soup bowl.
I think it's supposed to be like a coffee cup, but there's no way.
It's huge.
Let's go around the other side.
We've got a Han Solo vest.
Not even.
That's some Resistance pilot helmet.
They have some really nice hoodies and jackets over here,
but, like, again, it's Florida, so I could wear it, like, a month a year.
Really cool patches.
And we are making our way out of Galaxy's Edge.
The queue for Rise of the Resistance.
To our right.
Tunnel straight ahead.
Which, when we come out of that tunnel,
we'll arrive at our destination.
Muppet Courtyard? Grand Avenue? Formerly known. Muppet Courtyard?
Grand Avenue?
Formerly known as Muppet Courtyard, now it's Grand Avenue.
The Muppet area is now Grand Park, I believe, yes?
We can go with that.
I think it is, there's a sign. At the end of Grand Avenue is our destination,
Baseline Taphouse.
Formerly?
Formerly, the writer's stop.
Yes.
Before that, Ellen's by the book.
Missed that.
That must have been, what, like early 90s or something?
Mm-hmm.
Mid-90s, yeah.
I think it was about 94.
Same as everything else, kind of.
I didn't encounter any of this until 2000, so.
We have the last remaining bit of streets of america used to have a big chevrolet sign up there kind of looks like the flat iron building a little bit the most
ridiculously hot horrifically oily area of the park back then i thought i would pass away on
streets of america on a couple of occasions.
Then you could just go to the Singing in the Rain umbrella.
And use some guys' merchandise.
Use guys.
R.I.P. use guys.
Is baseline packed?
Yes, it sure is alright
here we are
so
grab a seat
and reconvene
grab a seat
and we'll see you
in a minute
exactly All right, here we are. We are sitting outdoors on a very, as we said, balmy Florida afternoon at Baseline Tap House.
We have a guest with us today.
That's not me.
That's not me, and that's not Jeremy.
An actual real-life guest.
Everybody say hi to Linz.
Hi, everybody.
So Linz is a West Coaster.
He's out here celebrating.
And I invited him to come hang out with us for a little bit
since he is an expert on all things beverage-y.
Are you an expert beverage-y person from the West Coast?
That just sounds like a really nice way to call me an alcoholic or a drunk.
So, sure.
So, absolutely, yes.
He's a frequent partaker.
And I know the last time I saw you was at DCA, and you introduced me to the Pim, the honey...
What was it?
Was it the Pim's?
Yeah.
Well, Pim has a whole bunch of different options that have really fun names, but it was the one with the honey sticker.
That's what it was, yeah.
That was quite delightful, so he knows his stuff.
I thought that's a tequila drink, if I'm not mistaken.
And since we do not know our stuff,
but we're here to answer your...
We have a list.
We have a list of your favorites.
So we're going to go over those
and get a little bit of input
because Jeremy here, our fearless leader,
is headed out west very soon.
We're going to need drinks.
This will do him some good.
Yes.
So the most popular coming in at number one, we've got Havoc Jedi, Reggie 110,
The Deep Lang, and Garage Karate, and The Weekly Mouse all are saying trader Sam's enchanted TV bar.
Can't go wrong with trader Sam's.
I don't disagree whatsoever.
Yeah.
That's that,
that was the most popular.
And this is what I've actually been to.
Okay.
I can't believe we got into it last time.
It was amazing.
And even though my kids can't sit at the bar,
they still loved it.
And it was awesome for those uninitiated or those east coasters it's uh located
much like ours is at the polynesian there is the original one it's at the disneyland hotel
very very small it's very small but the really fun hack is i believe the outside bar at tegra
terrace opens at about 11 o'clock so if you're not able to get a reservation for inside Trader Sam's,
which again is very small,
just like Walt Disney World,
it's tiny.
It's a closet.
You can definitely get those same beverages
outside on the patio
and enjoy some small bites as well.
Yes.
They do have a walk-up wait list available.
Michelle says Trader Sam's
because it's like the Tiki Room,
but with booze.
Okay, that's fair.
Can't go wrong with any other answer besides Sam's.
Is there any other answer besides Sam's?
No.
Something I don't remember is,
is Sam's out there as lively as ours is?
Do they have the bartender interaction,
the people walking around with squirt guns and all that stuff?
They do, but there are a few different elements.
Walt Disney World has a few drinks that we don't have,
like the Nautilus. We don't have that on the West Coast.
And the O'Oa engagement that Grug Zurado at the Poly has
is not the same at Disneyland.
So there are some differences.
So if you're interested in seeing what those differences are
and comparing and seeing what tickles your fancy,
I definitely recommend checking out both.
If you don't care and you just want to get a drink,
then the exterior bar is also a great option as well.
Very much like Poly is here as well.
Yeah, the weekly mask is Tangaroa Terrace for the relaxing atmosphere.
Absolutely.
Good one.
We did a friends meet up at Tangaroa. It's nice.
Team Reed Travel.
Lamplight Lounge was awesome.
We enjoyed the proximity of Pixar Pier, the whole vibe of the area.
And so we're going out for my daughter's 18th, and her one request is Lamplight.
I've never been.
Have you been, Linz?
So Lamplight is my favorite venue on property.
Please tell us more.
So I'm going to try to make this as condensed as possible.
So Lamplight kind of has two levels.
I'll start from the bottom and work my way up. On the bottom level, you have kind of like the Seaside Dining, which is basically their as possible. So Lamplight kind of has two levels. I'll start from the bottom and work my way up. On the bottom
level, you have kind of like the seaside
dining, which is basically their main dining.
You have an option to sit inside.
I definitely recommend sitting
outside. The friends I'm sitting
here with now have all experienced
Lamplight Lounge. They will lounge.
But they do not serve all
the menu items from the Boardwalk Dining upstairs
downstairs. So you'll get the brunch menu downstairs, which is phenomenal.
I highly recommend that.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, that's available, as well as their dinner menu downstairs.
If you cannot get a reservation downstairs, you can get walk-up dining upstairs.
That's what's called the Boardwalk Dining at Lamplight Lounge.
That's where you get the lobster nachos that everybody loves.
That's where you get the new Brussels sprouts that just came out a few months ago that I'm personally obsessed with.
Brussels sprouts?
Brussels sprouts.
They have, like, this really great soy ginger vinaigrette with pork belly inside.
I know that off the top of my head because I get them every time.
It's really sad, disturbing.
It's fine.
But they're truly delicious.
You cannot get those downstairs
if you add a fried pork product of any sort to a vegetable it's definitely better i'm all in so
personally if it's not the brunch menu i prefer dining upstairs um but the bar menu is really
incredible great alcoholic and non-alcoholic offerings as well um they have some specialty
beers from some local breweries in the area that
do um especially pixar themed beers for the um for the lounge itself excellent i think pizza
court is actually that brewery um which is very funny um so so reservations for both or reservations
only for the downstairs reservations for the downstairs walk up a wait list for the boardwalk
dining upstairs okay so i've been I've been to Lamplight
I think two or three times now.
I've done...
The first time we went
was we actually got
the office.
Oh, you got to the office.
So we got into the office.
So the office is the...
It's basically like
their secret...
What do you call it?
Like a secret room?
A secret dining room?
It's a secret dining room that I believe seats up to 8 or 12.
It's a tiny room, but the door is really cool when you get to turn it on.
I won't spoil it for y'all.
It has a whole effect just to get in.
It's really cool.
It's down on the water.
You can go outside.
You can sit out there.
You can watch the Incredicoaster blast off right from there.
It's very cool.
It's really cool.
That was my first experience.
That was your first experience?
That was it.
Do you have to fight people to get in here?
Or, like, how's this?
What, some lottery?
I mean, the odds be ever in your favor?
It's really that.
It's usually, for us, it was a special occasion,
and I think they made that reservation,
and that's kind of how they got that.
Something else I want to interject here
is that I'm noticing that Linz is better at this
than either one of us, which kind of pisses
me off a little bit. Well, you shouldn't
have got the guy that actually went to radio school.
Dang it, Linz! Come on!
The media trained guy, really? Who could have said
that? No, I think this makes way for
my boyfriend engagement. Did I forget to mention?
You forgot to mention that he's a professional.
You forgot to mention that Linz has been
in the blogosphere and social media sphere for a decade.
It's really unfortunate.
He's very good at what he does.
Way to show us up, Lindsey.
Which is why I invited him.
Look at my husband's face.
It's really hilarious.
Oh, my.
Everybody else around us is uncomfortable.
That's really cool.
In fairness, you guys are doing great.
That's what we do.
You guys are wonderful.
You know what it means when somebody says you're doing great?
No, but I mean it. It's not the not the passive dress thing we talked about i'm sorry
i actually mean it you're doing great sweetie what's next josh so next we got one that i'm not
i'm not familiar with but you will be it's hearthstone the d-line says uh hearthstone
because it feels like coming home Yeah I get that
Would you agree with this?
Well I would because it's located inside Disney's Grand California Hotel and Spa
Which is your home
So technically it's a home
It is the hotel bar inside
So I'm actually going to give an honorable mention
On the back end so don't let me forget that
But Hearthstone is inside the
Inside the hotel lobby
It's the lobby bar basically
I'm going to be really honest But Hearthstone is inside the hotel lobby. It's the lobby bar, basically.
I'm going to be really honest.
There's really not anything that divergent or special about that bar.
There's really no signature things about the menu there.
But if you do want a cozy kind of California craftsman architecture kind of feel and vibe,
it's definitely your space. That bar does get crowded very quickly.
It's a big bar, but it it has some people like to gather there it's a gathering place so if you're interested
in there i would recommend going early or going late if you go during like happy hour time or
dinner time it's going to be a little crowded for you but i think this would be a good time
to interject the honorable mention do it craftsman bar which is the pool bar which just opened right before covid rip
um is located right by the pool um you might need a walk-up reservation or a dining reservation for
that as well they share the same kitchen as what used to be whitewater snacks which is now
craftsman grill incredible food incredible drinks fantastic so hearthstone yeah I mean okay so so far so on is busy if they
check our stone I'm actually went to not not a friend of mine kind of drug me in
there last time we were out there was super hot which was unusual it was oh my
gosh it was just one
19 I think and it was like 90 something and everybody was dying and like oh my
gosh it should be soft so we went in there and it was like 90-something, and everybody was dying, and like, oh my gosh, it shouldn't be this hot.
So we went in there, and it was beautiful,
it was amazing, we had a lovely drink.
It's a beautiful bar, for sure, but
Craftsman is a great alternative.
And honestly, the food out there
is great, so if you want a bite as well, that's a great place
to be.
So, Jedi Pixie has another one
that I'm not as familiar with, which
says, Alfresco Tasting Terrace
phenomenal charcuterie
and Disney family of wine
yep
perfect view of Cars Land
coming in
coming to life at sunset
plus nobody knows
it's up there
including myself
never heard of it
Alfresco Terrace
I think
so don't quote me
because I haven't been up there
as I
I hope not
I actually might look it up
right now
because I'm actually curious
because it's going to bug me.
Recently, I'll stall while I'm talking.
So recently, the Magic Key Terrace, which used to be upstairs, has been reimagined and transformed into this whole area.
So I don't know if Al Fresco Terrace has become part of that.
And it looks like it has.
So Al Fresco Terrace is actually gone because it's been absorbed as part of the magic key
terrace breaking news east coasters sorry christine like i have to look it up because i wasn't sure
it's not popping up on my app but what i will tell you about the terrace is um that person is
not incorrect that was actually one of my favorite hidden gems in the resort um anytime i honestly
would have a bad day um i would go up there I'd get like a really delicious flatbread and get some wine and I would enjoy.
You're sitting right up against Grizzly Peak on your right side.
You do have a beautiful view of Cars Land right beneath you.
And it's very, very peaceful.
But now all that has kind of been absorbed into the Magic Key Terrace area.
And then last, lastly...
Almost lastly.
Another one of my favorites.
Our own Guilty Jedi Rick.
And Andrew.
The last one's Andrew.
And Andrew.
Both recommend Carthay Circle Lounge
for the atmosphere.
Great cocktails, very classy. What are your thoughts on Carthay Circle Lounge for the atmosphere. Great cocktails, very classy.
What are your thoughts on Carthay?
So I have complicated thoughts with Carthay
because I've experienced the 1901 club cocktails.
So I will tell you, I think it's a beautiful lounge to enjoy drinks.
I think the appetizers at that location are really great.
Personally, for me personally for me for
me for lindsey myself i will probably go somewhere else now if you want a sophisticated drink if you
want a really delicious drink like the pear martini at uh carthay is delicious they have a delicious
old-fashioned at um carthay so the drinks are not bad like the drinks are not bad but i think that
there are some different bars you can get some different kinds of experiences at.
Again, they craft their menu in a very specific way.
They have some very specific offerings.
But if that's not what you're...
If you don't care about that kind of thing, I think you can get most of those drinks anywhere.
But their old-fashioned is fabulous.
The double-pair martini, which they're known for, is great.
Their wineless deck, heart-thick circle, is incredible.
It's good stuff.
It's very refreshing
on a hot day,
I'll tell you that.
There's a little mini pear
they put in the little
martini glass.
It's phenomenal.
They're the ones
that inspired me
to learn how to do
the ice sphere.
Ice sphere?
Perfect.
Have you watched them make it?
Oh, yeah.
It's incredible.
It's so much fun.
I love it.
And again,
they have great appetizers there,
so I will say that.
Their appetizers are phenomenal.
But again, like I was mentioning before, I think we started recording if you're not interested you just want a really quick drink there's a few spots around the park
you can grab a quick drink the pacific warf brewing uh distribution company the beer truck
as we call it serves called strauss beer the hollywood lounge hollywood land lounge i think
it's called micheladas oh yeah like retro only there, right? Oh, yeah. Like, Retro-y and things like that.
Only the guy that comes from California goes to Baseline to get California beer.
Like, it's so dumb.
You are a Baseline stan, and that's why we're here.
That's why we're here.
So, yeah, there's plenty of places in California Venture to get all kinds of alcohol.
We didn't mention Pim Testing Lab, which has incredible drinks if you want to try something
experimental or different.
And I use the word experimental not as a pun, but truly.
There's some really cool stuff.
I know Joshua knows for sure.
We shared a drink there.
That was a good time.
I'm like 10 o'clock in the morning or something.
I mean, I'm frankly behind.
I'm frankly, basically, I hope it's at 10.30 now.
I was here in January.
See, I was talking about 11 o'clock is too early
to be drinking, and these guys are...
I was on California Tech. I'm behind. I'm here in January. See, I was talking about 11 o'clock is too early to be drinking and these guys are... I was on California Tech.
I'm behind.
So...
Thanks for weighing in, everybody, and
giving these recommendations, and
Linz, thanks for nothing.
Thanks for making us
literally sit here and
act like a total professional and make us
feel terrible. No, seriously. Thank you, man.
It was awesome.
Anytime. Anytime. Anytime. Lindsey, if man. It was awesome. Oh, anytime.
Anytime, anytime.
Lindsay, if anyone wants to find you on Instagram, where do they find you?
At Linz is magical.
L-I-N-Z is magical, all one word.
Awesome.
You can find his Disney excitement and his running excitement.
He's a runner.
He loves to run.
I'm also intimidated by people who run, especially in heat like this.
It's crazy.
You're surrounded by runners right now.
Yeah, I know.
I know this.
So now we're going to do what we call an outro, right, Josh?
That's professional.
That's professional.
Right?
Very professional.
All right, look us up on Instagram at WalkaboutWDW.
