Well hello everybody and welcome back to Walk About The World, your weekly audio stroll
through our beloved Disney parks and resorts.
Coming to you right now from the wonderful and always beautiful Echo Lake at Disney's Hollywood Studios or as I
will always lovingly refer to it as MGM
sitting here on the five-and-dime bench right in front of Echo Lake by the steps. Peavey's Polar Pipeline to my right.
Tune In Lounge and the Primetime Cafe to the left.
And as I'm sure you can hear, the fountain and Gertie straight ahead.
It is a beautiful evening.
And what better way to spend a beautiful evening
than strolling through Hollywood Studios. I'm just going to Before we take a little walk so
yes Yes, take on! Take on both!
Alright, let's take a walk.
I have to first, since I'm in the area, I always have to stop by Peavey's.
If you're not sure who Peavey is, or why he has a polar pipeline,
frozen Coca-Cola concoctions.
Peavey's the character from The Rocketeer, the comic book, and of course the Disney film,
which I am a big fan of.
And so I always swing by PV's to pay my respects,
because over in the corner behind the, I should say next to all the slushie machines,
just to the left, you'll find one of the stunt helmets and jet packs from the original film.
So I definitely always have to stop by.
Hey Madeline, is that it?
And if need be, I'll partake and enjoy Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey and Coke.
Not today though.
This has always been one of my favorite areas in the park.
MGM was my favorite park as a child because, hey, it was the new theme park when I was a kid.
It was a big deal. So it'll always have those special memories
to me. Had all the greatest movies from that time. So The Rocketeer, like I said, there's
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Dick Tracy. That was my childhood. Speaking of Roger Rabbit,
just behind where I was sitting
is the Hollywood and Vine restaurant.
And up on the second floor
is a Who Framed Roger Rabbit reference
of Eddie Valiant's office
and the silhouette of Roger
when he smashed through the office window.
Great little tribute.
I see duckies.
Not just any duckies, Echo Lake duckies!
And baby duckies!
Michelle you may argue that the Disneyland duckies are the best duckies but, I don't
know, I think the Echo Lake duckies are going to give the Disneyland duckies a run for their
money. Walking toward the
hub.
Dockside Diner to your left.
We're going to take a right.
Let's go visit the dedication plaque. Disney MGM Studios, the world you have entered, was created by the Walt Disney Company and
is dedicated to Hollywood, not the place on a a map but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine a
place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic we welcome
you to a Hollywood that never was and always will be May 1st 1989 Michael D. Eisner one of the best plaques next to the cameraman statue
Chinese theater directly in front of us
Runaway Railway
we're going to take a right
to the Studio Arch
which
when the MGM Studios first opened that arch was the entrance into
the production side of the park so right now we would be in the theme park and
then you would enter the actual working studio and take the the backstage tour
tram tour and walking tour which is, started out where Launch Bay is right now.
Used to be the animation building.
Walking under the Hollywood Studios arch.
Star Wars Launch Bay, straight ahead.
We're going to take a left.
See maybe, yeah that's what we'll do.
Take a stroll through Walt Disney Presents.
See what we can hear. Normally I would make sure that we watch the Walt Disney film at the end of the
attraction but right now it's Percy Jackson behind the scenes.
And you can meet Ariel from the live-action story.
If you've never experienced this attraction,
it's basically a museum
of Walt's life
and the history of the parks.
So, I would say don't miss it.
Lots of great photos, artifacts.
Starting off in Marceline, Missouri. Can't have the story of Walt without trains We call it the multiply of the camera.
The problem was how to take a painting and make it behave like a real piece of scenery under the camera.
Different elements in the scene were separated according to their varying distances from the viewer.
With our original picture broken down in this manner, it is possible to control the value of speed with which each individual part of it moves to or away from the camera.
And here now is our same moonlight scene the way the multi water plane camera sees it.
True life adventures, walking under the arch. Here you leave today and enter the world of
yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy, which means here we are. We've arrived at 1955 Disneyland. Disney's Disneyland
Each week there's a winnig
One of these many worlds
Run to the last
Tall tales of truth and legendaries. Frontierland, the prophets of things to come.
Adventureland, the wonder world of nature's own world.
Paraseland, the happiest kingdom of them all. Here we have Lincoln and the Tide. With low skin so you can see all the mechanisms.
And the Here we have Lincoln animatronic. Low skin so you can see all the mechanisms.
An older animatronic model.
And right across you have your model of Spaceship Earth.
And the Tower of Terror.
It is like seeing this.
Look at this.
Look at the reflection.
It's a real picture.
It looks sad.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.

It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture.
It's a real picture. It's a real picture. It's a real picture. It's a real picture. It's a real picture. And at the end of the exhibit before what would be one man's dream, there is currently
the current exhibit is a Disney Wish exhibit showing all the concept art that was for the Disney Wish ship.
And then you have props and costumes from the Little Mermaid live action film.
And you can meet Ariel from that film.
It's the meet and greet at the end of the hallway.
And the last room before you go into the film is props and costumes from the Percy Jackson.
The new Percy Jackson film.
Or series, I guess it is.
I haven't watched it.
But it's always cool to see that kind of stuff especially it kind of
harkens back to the studio days
which was one of my
favorite parts of this park
was getting to see all that stuff
like the AFI exhibit that had all the
awesome film props.
Alright, out of Walt Disney Presents.
Going around the corner, headed toward Toy Story Land now.
Since I'm reminiscing about my old favorite park. There are still some remnants of the original studios like the arch even though it's been changed but right here just in
front of Toy Story Land before the entrance to your right you can still see
the sign on the building Roy O Disney Production Center which was part of the
studio tour.
Beautiful sunset behind Rex on top of the Jenga Tower.
Slinky dog going by. How long do you think the wait is for Slinky Dog today?
I'm going to say, let's go 75.

little people in it. Remember the little people? I think the little people are
still around. They're just for a different generation. They probably
changed them a little bit.
Alien swirling saucers to the right as we trek through Andy's backyard. And exiting Toy Story Land through our lack of transition theming.
Andy's backyard just got really rocky.
There's the music change.
You know where we are.
Just stepped off worlds.
It's one giant leap from 80s backyard.
Does that mean that we're
maybe we're still in 80's Backyard?
This is just his Kenner Star Wars play sets.
Record time.
Alright, Joy Depot, straight ahead. Bye. The same shot? The former entrance exit to the Star Cruiser.
Still hoping for something good that they can turn that into.

New York Street backlot.
I'm glad it's still here.
Let's pop into the Muppet Courtyard.
Gonzo's Royal Flush.
I'd say next to the Rapunzel bathrooms, my favorite and most hilariously, wonderfully themed bathroom.
Let's stop here with Miss Piggy,
because when you have a chance to visit the Piggy Fountain,
you visit the Piggy Fountain, you visit the Piggy Fountain.
Pizza Rizzo! it's rat pizza.

And this is what Hollywood Studios is all about.
That's right, my friends.
The beauty of the neons.
The music.
I love it.
Let's take in some Sunset Boulevard.
We'll end there.
Sound good to you? Good, because that's where we're going. I can be on there, or I can just be in the middle.
Turning here to Hollywood and Sunset. Trolleycar Cafe to the right.
