Well, welcome back to Walk About The World and hello travelers and greetings from Disney's Magic Kingdom.
With my beautiful baby.
The Walt Disney World Railway.
Behind me.
Locomotive just now taking off.
I'm standing in Town Square.
On a glorious early morning.
Shortly after rope drop.
I know.
It's weird for me too. White crepe myrtles here around the flagpole are blooming and the pink and white roses are surrounding me and the main street music
is going and the confectionery scent is filling the street and there is a line for the confectionery.
I don't know that I've ever seen that happen. But we are here today to do what we do. We
are going to walk around. There's the train whistle again. I'm just a choo-choo fan, what
can I say? We are here to see what we can see with our ears, walk around, and get some Magic Kingdom vibes flowing,
because I need it, and I'm betting you do too.
If you are new to our merry little band, this is what we do.
If you're like, hey, these guys just walk around and record stuff in the park, yeah, that's about it.
Walk about the world. That's what we do.
And if you're ready to walk, I am. Let's go.
Let us walk quite literally down the middle of Main Street, USA.
With our fellow travelers around us. Let's just sit back and soak this crowd
level in.
Main Street Trolley coming by.
Just look to your left. There you heard it. One call, one call. We're piling up here. Main Street Bakery to your right.
I have not yet had my morning coffee, and Starbucks is smelling really, really good right now.
House of Magic to your left.
Tricks, puzzles.
Main Street Ice Cream
to your right on the corner.
To your left, you know.
The purveyor of tube-shaped meats.
And the maker of happy fat ducks, Casey's Corner.
I am going to proceed straight ahead,
past the castle hub, well, through the castle hub,
past the castle to the right,
where we're going to go over towards Tomorrowland.
Let's go.
Another trolley car.
This is the yellow one.
Main Street Transportation Company, it says.
Okay, now we're turning right on one of the branches through the hub grass.
Past the lovely pineapple fountain here to your left.
And here's a detail nobody cares about with me, but I am a huge fan of British gardening.
I watch British gardening shows.
Yeah, I know. I don't know. Whatever.
But the way that they tend the plants here around the hub,
very, very British in nature.
That doesn't sound right.
Anyway, they have really tight-clipped hedges with roses and other flowers in and around them,
and then topiaries.
Very British to me.
To our British listeners,
I don't know what to say, other than I'm sorry.
But I love your country.
Okay, you are about to see with your ears that the ambiance will change.
We're about to turn right, headed over the bridge into Tomorrowland.
The Tomorrowland sign off to your right.
And here we go.
You know, there's a cart here.
I've been investigating carts lately.
What is this one?
Alright.
Not a lot here at this one.
You can get the fresh poppied corn.
Or a Mickey bar. Oh oh they have a wait hold
one I know why people are here
they have a Disney 100 silver and purple Cinderella coach premium popcorn bucket
that looks like Cinderella's coach. And it's $28.
And it looks kind of amazing. I don't really do the popcorn bucket thing,
but that's why there's a line.
Okay, now
Tomorrowland.
Ambience change in three, two... Bungie pad and Astro Orbiter straight ahead. Behind us the castle, the voice of OREC 5 all around us. I'm going to disrupt ahead and get going. people
standby for buzz only 20 minutes right now i actually don't believe it because the line is enormous
pausing right here by the entrance to the people mover which is currently
closed but the cars are running.
And there it goes.
You guys recently got our episode of one hour of this fine attraction.
I'm still chuckling that we released that, but I have to admit, I've listened to it myself several times.
That's what we do here.
This is the TTA Blue Line.
Outstop service around tomorrow.
Voice of Stephen Stanton, by the way.
Okay, let's head on over towards Space Mountain,
because one of my goals for this morning,
I have never walked over by Tron.
I can't believe it.
The last time I was here, I'm not sure if I could. Is it possible to hear the ambience of this place and not have serotonin increase? I love it so much.
Here we go.
Okay, Space Mountain straight ahead.
20 minute wait, what?
I'm still not going to do it, because that thing kills me.
But you go ahead, if you want.
By the way, we're passing the lovely metal palm trees that I just...
I love these things.
This one makes a tiny desk replica.
No pressure, satisfactual'll sign company. But if you
do, I will buy it. Let's pop into the newly redesigned, refitted, re-something Tomorrowland Launch Depot, it's now called,
which is the gift shop for Space Mountain and, I think, Tron.
It used to be the Tomorrowland Light and Power Company.
Let's pop in and see what we can see.
Ooh.
Guys. The... guys the
I'm just going to
have to take a moment
the little kid
that still lives inside my noggin
from the 1980s
is looking at a shelf of Tron figures, identity discs,
which are, you know, they're Frisbees, what can I say, and light cycle toys, and guys,
they are just like the toys from when I was a kid. They're not quite the see-through nature of the ones that I had but they look so similar
including the packaging I'm wow just didn't expect
they have Flynn lives shirts they have Flynn's arcade shirts I don't know if we've talked about this, you and I, but I am a huge Tron fan.
I just love it. It's a special piece of my childhood that was apparently seared into place in the 80s and has never left me.
But I'm going to stop blabbing now about Tron stuff, but this store is kind of great.
It is still the exit, of course, for Space Mountain.
The cashier told me that the Space Mountain merch is now at Star Traders.
But I am not leaving here today without buying a light cycle toy,
because I just, I can't, I can't, I can't not do that.
Do you hear that?
The Tron Legacy soundtrack.
I have this huge smile on my face.
Okay, I spent far too much time in the store.
Let's go walk over towards Tron I cannot tell you how happy this makes me.
Alright, we're on the main path, and we're going to walk underneath the big dome.
Right now, here we go. So, so cool.
As you just heard, here comes... The track is literally right above us.
Oh.
Hello, hello train. train You can tell by the screams that they're having fun.
I'm at the top of the path now now and you can actually look out and see the
big top area and the Frontierland train station. Tracks going by to your lower
right. Train just passed actually. Photo pass area up top, you can actually see through, they have a really nice framed view,
which I'm sure is on purpose, of the top of Space Mountain through the opening in the
Tron building dome
now back in Tomorrowland I do have to say that the exterior of the Tomorrowland Power & Light,
what is now the Launch Depot.
Hello, motorcars.
It looks really nice.
They did a great rehab on that building.
Kind of needed it. I'm going to follow him around. passing the cool ship walking through the middle of the mist can you feel it
it's mid-may in Central Florida so it is gonna be a smoker of a day cool ship is uh feels quite lovely The train is now departing for the Central Station. I agree with you, Aurak.
Let's pop into Merchant of Venus.
For reasons that my friends and family will know. We are now at peak Tomorrowland ambience
Here in the concourse to Fantasyland There is a great big beautiful tomorrow.
Ambience music. Oh, poor little one.
I don't know if you can hear.
Let's turn right.
Head through Fantasyland. The teacup's on your right.
You can down some popcorn and tube-shaped meat, spin the cup real fast and play gastrointestinal
roulette here at Magic Kingdom. You can't even see it. It's possible, Bob. You literally can't. I didn't see it.
Alright, turning left into Fantasyland now.
Cue for Mine Train on your right.
I wouldn't wait in it.
I don't dislike the ride, but it's very short.
And the line is long.
Here's the rustling of a bag, because did I buy a Tron Light Cycle toy? Yes.
Yes, I did.
Fire's nook right behind us which apparently is a popular breakfast place
because she is stacked out with people eating breakfasty looking things
fairy tale hall to your left and the regal carousel straight ahead A dream is a wish your heart makes.
Pinocchio Village
Haas.
Straight ahead.
Closed right now.
But they do have a water feature.
I'm beelining towards the water feature.
Yeah, water feature.
I actually can't tell if it's open or closed.
But I can see.
Small world.
Oh.
Okay. 10 o'clock, folks. Thank you. Was that 10?
I don't know.
Okay.
Because it's nice and cool, and I think the line is short,
I'm going to take a spin on the happiest cruise that ever sailed.
I won't annoy you with the entire ride.
But you're going to join me for some of it.
Because that's the rules. You have to come along.
Here we go. Thank you. Terima kasih telah menonton! Thank you. Okay.
A little spin on the
happiest little cruise that ever sailed.
And now we're right across from the Tangled Restrooms.
We just passed Peter Pan, by the way,
who's out greeting guests.
And we are standing by the stream
that runs down from Rapunzel's Tower out of the mountains.
And it is peaceful and lovely.
And standing next to Memento Mori.
Always remember death so that we may live.
Remember death, Mementoo mori and it says
relics from regions beyond not gonna pop in there today and head straight through
towards Liberty Square Hoyle of a Tale playing outside of Carver House, which is very appropriate.
Liberty Bell.
Looks like it is boarding guests as we speak.
Yeah, what's wrong? They're not boarding yet. I was wrong.
They're not boarding yet.
11 a.m. it starts.
And that's 30 minutes away.
Disney World squirrels out and about in abundance this morning.
Looking for their nuts.
These are the only jokes I have. I'm sorry.
Also, popcorn. French fries.
All the things that they shouldn't eat, but they do. Now, it sounds very... It sounds very much like we are still...
Whoa.
Loud strollers.
Sounds very much like we are still over here in Liberty Square,
but we're on the border between Liberty Square and Frontierland.
And before we walk down Frontierland,
this isn't going to be the Frontierland episode,
but I did want to read a very nice email
from listener Amy. Amy says, hi all. Hope you were having a magical day. I am so far.
Love the podcast so much. Thank you. I have told all my friends and family to tune in
and I've shared the word. So to Amy's family and friends, from the entire team, thank you and I'm sorry.
Both.
She says, I very humbly have a recommendation
for a future podcast.
Frontierland is my favorite land in Magic Kingdom,
so maybe a walkabout from Liberty Square
to Big Thunder Mountain.
Just an idea. And it's a great idea
and we'll do it, and I think we'll do it
with, we'll do a multi-host
episode for Frontierland,
but I did want to give a shout out to Amy. Thank you!
And with no further ado, let's actually walk through Frontierland.
And entering Frontierland in three, two...
Heard a yee-haw from somewhere.
Yep, there's yee-haw going on at Pecos Bill.
Is that the opening ceremony for Pecos?
See, this is... I've come here for ages, but I don't know these things.
I bet they're opening the restaurant.
But from right here, we can see... Oh, hello.
And hello to you.
Okay.
That was a dual whistle.
Did you hear it?
In the distance was the train.
Very cool.
Frontierland Shooting Arcade directly to our left,
along with Getaway Stagecoach Line.
Frontier Trading Post. Texas John Slaughter Trail Boss.
To the left.
For ages, I've been searching for the little cowboy badge that says, Cow Puncher,
for my dad.
Soaking a little Frontierland.
Okay, Liberty Bell.
Cut that out. Liberty Bell casting off.
That was a rendition of On Top of Old Smoky.
This, you know what this one is?
Come on.
Here's Big Al's Gifts to your right.
Right across from Country Bear Jamboree to your left,
Grizzly Hall, 1898, wild and woolly good time.
Killed him a bar when he was only three.
This is Davy Crockett.
For those younger members of our audience,
and there are a surprising number,
thus says our demographics,
wouldn't blame you if you didn't know what Davy Crockett was.
But my dad would.
So much to see here.
I'm going to resist the urge to read everything because we're going to leave that for a future episode. But passing by Pecos
Bill right now.
Here we are on the bridge
looking at
what was our beloved Splash Mountain.
I'm going to
doff my cap.
I don't have one to pour out,
but if I had one to pour out...
Pour one out for Splash Mountain, but if I had one to pour out...
Pour one out for Splash Mountain, folks.
But looking forward to Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
Satisfactual thinking of you, man.
Hope you make some cool Tiana stuff, too.
Okay. Okay.
Libertyville getting kind of uppity this morning.
Alright, Town Hall directly ahead.
Entrance to Pecosville.
Tall Tale Inn.
Here's a code of the West, by the way.
Respect the land, defend the defenseless,
and don't ever spit in front of women and children.
Guessing that spitting in front of men is appropriate? That's a food cart rolling down through the path here.
Okay, now we're going to take a left where it says additional seating.
Now we've entered pirate territory.
Tortuga Tavern!
I knew it would come to me.
And interestingly enough, there's a little courtyard over here with a single beautiful palm in the center
and stairways to yet another set of apartments.
I'm going to take a picture of this one for you.
Pardon the noise. All right, looking through the doors into the seating area for the first seating area
that you encounter indoors at Tortuga, giant mural of Blackbeard.
Smells really good in here by the way.
Hey, walk about first. That last little bit of ambience was recorded in the bathroom.
Because it sounded so great in there.
There was nobody else in there. Relax.
Let's step out here into the courtyard near the pirates.
Code of conduct at Tortuga, by the way.
Every man has equal title to fresh provisions.
The fair lady shall be treated in a favorable manner.
Agreed. Duels by cutlass of pistol shall be taken outside with witness.
Never duel inside the restaurant.
All right.
We are in the Plaza...
What is it? I'm looking across at the sign.
Plaza del Sol Caribe.
Plaza of the Caribbean Sun.
Pirates across the way.
Ventureland to your left.
Thanks so much for hanginganging out with me today
