Well, hello traveler.
Welcome to another episode of Walk About the World, your weekly audio expedition through
the parks and resorts of Walt Disney World here in Orlando, Florida.
And this evening, can you tell?
Okay, maybe you can't.
We just got here.
We are in the magic kingdom this evening
and normally it's just you and me walking around and it still will be you and me walking around
but today i'm not alone you don't you don't always have to adventure alone
and i gave you a a hint of where we're going today already, too, is that we're going to Adventureland today.
But with me is a fellow traveler, my daughter, Sophie.
Hello there.
Hi, Sophie.
Hello.
And so we're going to take a relaxing stroll as we always do we're going to head down main street and we're
going to walk through adventure land and see what we can see with our ears but before we do that by
the way i should tell you we are in where are we the town square i believe we're in town square
we're we're at the area right as soon as you come through the gates underneath the track for the train which
unfortunately isn't running i really wish it was because i'm a trained guy and i want to ride it
but we're currently directly in front of oh yep you know what it says like right there in front
see if i read signs it says town square theater we're currently in front of town square theater
across from the confectionery and we actually just got to watch the flag ceremony which if i've seen i don't remember seeing it have you seen it i've
seen it once or twice before like this is the uh obviously we're here in the evening so they're
taking it down right now but that's pretty cool but before we do much of anything further further we have our first edition of field notes see that sounds super fancy
but really field notes is just where I read the comments from you guys and I
just have a few to go over first off this isn't a comment I'm just going to
share that my buddy Patrick Anderson had some very kind words to say and also
shared the podcast with his family members,
which I really appreciate.
But from Clay Nash, we actually do have a really nice comment.
Clay says, just listened to the first two episodes, had too much screen time today.
Dude, I feel you.
I live my life in front of a screen, so I get it.
Had too much screen time today and took time to lie down, listen,
and just vibe on living with the land for a bit wonderful show and i like your company and
commentary guiding us walkers along the journey now clay i don't want you naming us walkers man
actually i don't think i actually care at all but but i think if i had to name us anything we're not
ambitious enough to be named things.
But if we were to be named things, let's call ourselves travelers.
Walker sounds like we're about to eat brains and make zombie noises.
But he says keep up the good work, and hopefully we will do just that.
Lastly, Holly K. says, thank you for doing this.
These are amazing.
Holly, that's going a bit too far, frankly.
We aim to be the least ambitious podcast you've ever heard.
And frankly, amazing is a couple of notches past where we intend to go.
Oh, what are we doing?
It's the Dapper Dans.
Oh, the Dapper dance are coming i'm going
to shut up here in a second but but holly thank you for saying it's amazing and living with the
land is her favorite ride so thanks guys for chiming in that's awesome let's go listen to
the dapper dance I'm off your mind down the middle of Main Street, USA
USA, it's the heart of America, the heart of the holiday
The place was made with a magical plan
Right down the street there is a fantasy land
I'm walking right down the middle of Main Street, USA
I'm walking right down Main Street, USA
It's the heartbeat of a holiday.
Just hear that big brass band.
They made it to Fantasyland.
I'm walking right down the middle of Main Street.
U.S.A.

blue
after all this and none

it's you
on her Coney Island walk
where she would play you can see her ononey Island walk where she would play,
you could see her on the boardwalk
every day.
Soaps and duds all around,
little bubbles on the ground.
Rub-a-dub-a-dub,
baby leaders of all those two cheeks
found. Bimbles on her
fingers make some noise.
Place Johnson on
laundry full of boys
She could brag it to you
Right through the knees
Of a brand new pair of knees
On her Coney Island walk
Where I'm the lay
On her Coney Island walk
Where she would play
She could see her all on the boardwalk
Every day
Soak the dolls around
The balls on the ground Rub-a-dub! Soak the dog around, little foals on the ground.
Take it! A brand new pair of DVDs on Coney Island, Washburn, Rondelet.
Hey, hey!
Coney Island, Washburn, Rondelet.
Hey!
Well, thanks everybody.
The Dapper Dance do have a couple more songs prepared for you to sing this afternoon.
We're going to let them sing and we're going to walk.
Let's do this.
One of our most requested tunes.
A song that goes like this.
It's a beautiful love song.
Meet me in the pawn shop, honey.
I don't think you could.
And enjoy that song. Oops, I know what's in front of us.
And right now, we're looking at the confectionary.
Shall we walk through the confectionary?
Let's do it.
Let's do this.
Can you smell it? I'll be honest with you, I can barely smell it?
I'll be honest with you, I can barely smell it Because these masks filter really well apparently
But it's still awesome
Not a super packed confectionery today.
Alright folks, let's hit Main Street.
I'm going to take a pause on Main Street.
Buy a trash can because that's the way you do it.
Standing in front of the Main Street Cinema.
And the castle.
You know this already.
The castle's down at the end looking absolutely beautiful.
It's not golden hour, but we're getting close.
Slight breeze, all the flags on top of the buildings are waving.
And the castle is starting to get that evening sun look to it.
It's not super packed, if I'm honest.
Yeah, there's a lot of nice room to walk today.
There's a healthy little bunch of folks here today, but, a busy Main Street is a good Main Street.
And so we're going to slowly walk,
probably not going to talk a whole lot,
but slowly walk down Main Street,
give you some vibes,
explore some nooks and crannies,
and then we're going to take a left
up by casey's which unfortunately is closed and head over past the crystal palace towards
adventureland ready to roll yeah let's do it let's do this
let's go this way.
Now this side street, does it have a name?
I don't think so.
I've wondered about this.
The side street that goes off to the right past the town jewelry store.
You can go back in there, have a nice seat. There are there are some tables back there looks like one of them
may even be open i'm shocked and they also have the little stand here where you get your
i was gonna say silhouette is that the right i don't think that's the right thing
i think it is a painting of your silhouette i still don't think that's the right thing
but anyway it's back there. Crystal Arts Store, directly to your right.
With some amazing crystal stuff here in the window.
None of which I will buy.
Passing to the right, one of the most popular attractions.
Starbucks. Is it Edie's Ice Cream?
I believe so. It's E-D-Y. I'm assuming it's Edie's Ice Cream? I believe so.
It's E-D-Y. I'm assuming it's Edie's.
I'm sorry, we are closed.
Did I know this already?
It's been closed since the parks reopened, unfortunately.
It says, uh, oh, you know what? Okay.
Uh, okay, alright, alright, yeah.
For your dining pleasure, please visit Anti-Gravity's Galactic Goodies.
So off to the right we have Tomorrowland.
And I wouldn't mind
exploring Tomorrowland, but you know what? You guys voted.
So we're going left.
We're on a mission today.
A very unambitious mission.
Let's take a left and go across the street.
We'll head over towards
Adventureland.
But first, let's all give a nod and a moment
of silence to our favorite Casey's, which is closed. And the piano is here, and I...
Do we know whether they've been playing or not?
I thought that they had, but I'm not sure, frankly.
I'm not sure either. I haven't heard it in a long time.
The piano is here, but it's currently closed.
And folks, if you're worried about the ducks that inhabit the Casey's area,
I'm looking at them. They're as fat as ever.
I have no idea what they're subsisting
on now since they don't have their diet of French
fries. Chances are
their blood work looks better.
Crystal Palace to our
left.
Bridge in the Castle to our
right.
I'm going to go over here.
Sorry, Sophie.
I'm making unexpected turns.
That's okay.
Sounds like we have a cavalcade coming.
I'm hearing the noise of a cavalcade.
It's not a flotilla.
Because they ride on the ground here.
We're going to take a break from the Adventureland Expedition
and head over and take a listen to the flotilla.
Who do we see, Sophie?
We see Gaston on his horse.
Oh, we do.
So what do we have here?
We've got Winnie the Pooh waving down from the top.
And we have Peter Pan, Alice, and Mary Poppins, as well as Aladdin on the float.
I actually did not know who that dude was.
Yeah.
It makes sense now.
It does look like Aladdin.
I wonder where Jasmine is, though.
That's interesting.
And it looks like it's being followed up by Tigger on the back my boy Tigger following him around
silly old bear he knows how to rock though now we're at the corner looking
at the castle to our left and they put up some of the first decorations
for the 50th celebration just today.
My question to you is can you see them?
I cannot.
I can't either.
I think it might be around the left hand side
for Sticky Hollow.
I saw what they added online, but I don't see it
Folks in my shouting if I am tell me
Okay, we're going to head back towards Adventureland. Here we go.
Let's go this way.
Could go back by Crystal Palace but we're not going to.
Now wait a minute what do we have here? Like, actually, what is that?
I believe that's just, like, a hot dog, pretzel, churro stand.
This isn't the famed stand of the... I am not on my game tonight, guys.
Can you tell it's been a long day?
The crunchy, deep-fried things that kill...
The spring rolls!
Oh, no, wait.
It's up ahead, isn't it?
It's up ahead.
Except it is wait
is she open wait a minute i actually can't tell
there's a person by it whether it's whether it's uh whether it's deep frying or not we don't know
and we are nearing the entrance of Adventureland here.
Lots of the cool jungle trees and architecture starting to appear.
This used to have an Adventureland sign.
Oh, really?
I'm pointing like you guys can see what I'm pointing at.
This is an audio adventure.
I'm pointing at the little stand of palm trees with little tiki statues.
And it's got like the dark stone circle where you can sit and chill.
But there used to be an Adventureland sign right there.
No longer.
Now there's just a big Adventureland sign on the bridge. And guess what?
That's where you are.
Off to your right is what used to be, I believe, the Adventureland Veranda.
Adventureland, is that right?
Adventureland Terrace?
Adventureland Veranda?
One of those two?
Now, Club 33.
Keep wanting to stand here and wave awkwardly
and see if I can get somebody to wave back from Club 33.
Chances are I would just annoy them
and they would come out and kick me off the bridge.
And Buona Bob's Gifts to the left is closed.
Bob's on vacay, perhaps? I don't know.
Now this is the home of the orange bird, Sunshine Tree Terrace.
And I thought this is where the Dole Whip was served,
but I'm hearing it's not where the Dole Whip was served.
The Dole Whip is served over by the Tiki Room.
So here is not Dole Whip, but it's got orange bird on it,
and it's just got the citrus swirl,
and they actually have fried pork and vegetable pot stickers
and floats, coffee, all kinds of good stuff.
And as usual, quite a line for ye olde citrus swirl.
Swiss Family Treehouse on the left,
and the Jungle Navigation Company Skipper Canteen to the right.
Is this a new thing?
This is where the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom location used to be.
I feel like there ought to be a little
seat and table in there.
But I am going to grab this.
Yes. yes you heard me sigh when I sat down
because I'm old
currently chilling
on a bench
in the heart of Adventureland
right next to Skipper Canteen across from
Swiss Family Treehouse.
It's a pretty calm Adventureland this evening.
Adventureland is a natural bottleneck and normally if it's packed, you've got to fight
your way in and out. It's part of the adventure, just walking through it.
And we have a little guest running to and fro with a bubble maker,
and it's just adding all kinds of cool.
We're about a third of the way through March now, and as I've mentioned, just about everything that can be blooming is blooming.
It's about 75 degrees, slight breeze.
It is a good time to be of Adventureland.
What is the architecture, you ask?
I have no
idea. Because it
looks like a blending of about four different
cultures.
Am I wrong?
No, it definitely does.
I was also noticing for the first time the entrance
of the treehouse
is made from ship
material.
From wood planks.
It is.
And if you notice also, down at the base,
there are two cannons.
All the stuff that you see there at the treehouse,
by conceit here we're talking, but all this stuff was rescued from the shipwreck
and brought ashore and repurposed as their home so you see a couple of cannons there
and actually about five cannons those are protect from pirates
and there are pirates in the area folks as you know
also you can see nautical things like around the base here like the little
seating areas or the rock you can see like timbers and posts. Listen to the
announcement guys. or drinking while stationary. Guests that do not comply will be asked to leave.
Wash your hands often and thoroughly,
cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing,
and maintain physical distancing.
Thank you for your cooperation. mask up folks be nice
wear your mask wash your hands
don't stand too close
after a long theme park day that's just good advice
mm-hmm
I was also noticing the ship oars are making a little gateway to enter the treehouse.
I actually didn't even notice that.
So the oars are the entrance to the queue where you go across the bridge. I'll be honest with you
most of the time
I skip the old tree house
but there are some cool details up there
it could just be because I'm lazy
it is a lot of stairs
it's almost certainly not
because I'm lazy.
But it might be.
So I'll tell you what we're going to do.
We're going to wander
slowly. We're going to get up and go to our right.
We're going to wander slowly.
And we're going to take a turn around
the magic carpet
attraction over by...
Now, wait a minute. Let's get this right.
The counter service down here by the carpets.
I was going to say that's Aloha Isle.
Is that what it is, or is that what we just passed where the orange bird lives?
I believe Aloha Isle is actually at the Polynesian Resort.
I could be wrong.
See?
We're not ambitious enough to even apparently know what things are called in the park that we're visiting.
But we're going to find out.
Let's find out, because I'm not sure either.
Because we're going to go down there right now.
Let's do it.
And then you'll know.
Although all of you are already
screaming at me telling me what it is so i get that
well to your right is the breezeway that leads over to Frontierland.
And inside there are bathrooms that you better have brass knuckles to fight your way in and out of.
I avoid those like I avoid the COVID.
And here we have the Island Supply Area by Sunglass Hut, which you will need if you visit.
Magic carpet of Aladdin straight ahead with ye olde spitting camel.
Does he still spit?
I'm not sure. I don't see a spot on the ground. It looks like the camel's Does he still spit? I'm not sure.
I don't see a spot on the ground.
It looks like the camel's head is turned.
Am I crazy?
I think it is turned.
It usually looks around to find its place to spit.
You know what we don't do during a pandemic?
Spit on people?
We don't spit on people.
I don't know.
Maybe the camel's just setting a good example.
You were right.
What?
Look what's ahead of us.
See?
Occasionally.
Even I am correct. It's Aloha Isle refreshments.
So now we are at Alooha aisle train from us
and see this is another thing i was wondering because i actually didn't know
tiki room yeah open it is because if i'm not, wasn't the tiki room closed for a little while,
used as a line for, like, the Pirates ride or something like that?
I think so, yeah.
Remember that bottleneck I told you about?
We found it.
Welcome back.
50?
May or may not be 50, but the line for pirates, folks, wow. They got that wrapped around two or three times around this entire little center area of Adventureland.
But pirate sign directly to your left and the sun is now setting over the Pirates building.
Beautiful.
The Tortuga Tavern to our right.
Wonder if we can make it in the Pirates gift shop.
We're going to try.
See, did you know you would be wandering gift shops this evening in Adventureland probably not and yet here you are
they are really trying to get you to go away with a pirate sword we're not
gonna do that check these out.
Okay, it even fooled me from a distance.
Yeah, the stainless steel water bottle looks very much like a wooden plank.
It is pretty cool though. I like that.
Your Mickey's Pirates of the Caribbean shirt.
If you need one.
What's that?
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
Just about every boss I've ever worked for subscribes to that theory of employee encouragement.
Who knew it came from the pirates?
A lot of cool stuff in here.
Alright, let's head out.
That's hilarious.
All right, travelers, we have exited Adventureland and our Adventureland journey,
and that's going to bring our expedition for today to a close.
I hope you had some fun.
We had some fun walking around with you.
Did you have fun, Sophie?
I did. This was a great time.
