Hello, travelers.
Welcome back to Walk About the World for our 300th episode.
And I hope you don't mind if I pause briefly just to celebrate this little milestone.
For five years plus five point something years, we've been recording in the parks, taking you with us.
And for five years, we have averaged over an episode week.
and so the first thing I want to focus on is our crew.
I just want to say I can't imagine a better podcast crew than what we have.
There is no drama, and that's got to be weird, right?
But I'm telling you, it's a tight-knit group for me.
These people are family, and they just love what we do, and they go do it,
and I love every single bit of it.
I love what each host brings.
It's awesome to me to listen to the different hosts and the different personalities and different ways that they tour the parks.
And for them, it represents many, many hundreds of hours of work.
And if you haven't done it, which chances are you haven't.
Recording in a theme park is not easy.
It may seem like just walking around with the microphone, but all of the hosts will tell you that it is difficult.
and we have thrown away so many hours of recording because it just didn't click or it just wasn't good enough.
And so on this side of the microphone, I just want to say thank you to the crew.
You're the absolute best.
And then lastly, the other thing I want to focus on is the other piece of this equation that matters, and that is you.
And so for five years now, you guys have been going along with us in the parks, and you know,
what we're about. We are not talking Disney news or the latest fads or or the latest
cupcakes or where you can get the latest thingy. All of that stuff is great and I personally
listen to podcasts who cover that exact material and you can get that all over the place.
We are by our own admission very, very niche and a little strange. And for five years,
you still showed up. And that continuously amazes me. When Josh and I started this, I know,
on the broken record, but I literally wondered if we'd get to 10 episodes. And so the fact that
you guys have come with us and you have become found family in many cases, and I'm not kidding
there. So when I say podcast extended family on my intros, I want to tell you, there are listeners
that have become found family to me that I talk to daily. That's the
that's not a joke. I talk to several others weekly. And so for us, I have to tell you that you on
that side of the microphone have just as much opportunity to make a great big beautiful tomorrow as
we do on this side of the mic. Whenever you guys send us notes, it lights the entire team up.
I've said it many times, but it is true. We share every single message, whether it's Instagram
or its email, with the entire crew. Everyone reads it. We all celebrate.
it and just happened a couple of days ago.
And so it always brightens our day, makes us happy because we're not trying to be influencers.
We're not trying to amass a huge audience or sell a thing.
We are in this for the same reason you are to find joy and escape in these wonderful places
called the Disney Parks.
And we just want to thank you so much for being with us on this journey.
Happy 300 to the crew
And thank you
For 300 listens
To all of you out there
And on with the show, we go.
Well, hello, travelers,
And welcome back to Walk About the World
Where we take you for an audio walk-and-talk
With a friend around the parks and resorts
The Walt Disney World and Disneyland in California
Each week we record live in the parks
And we bring you the best sounds,
The best attractions,
just the best that Disney audio has to offer.
We're at the Magic Kingdom today.
I'm here with Jay.
How's it going, everybody?
If you didn't know, Jay and I are teachers,
and today is going to be a long one because...
It'll be an 18-hour episode.
No, I'm just kidding.
But I'd like to introduce whatever good friends.
Her name is Samantha Finley.
Say hi if it's Sam.
Hi, this is Sam.
And we are chaperones with our senior class,
As you guys know, Josh and I are both teachers.
We are here with 80 seniors celebrating their senior year just before graduation.
We're at The Magic Kingdom from Open to Close.
So we're going to make it a special episode today where we're going to see how much we can actually do while we're here all day.
When we record everything, I don't know.
We'll see what happens.
We kind of make it up as we go.
That's the whole point of this beautiful.
podcast that we
just walk around and we
take you with us, whatever it is, whatever
we do.
We are a listener-supported podcast,
and if you like what we're
bringing you each week,
feel free to check out our
Dolewip fund. There's a link in the show notes
that you can
donate as much or as little as you'd like.
I know I like Dolewip. Do you like Dole Whip?
I miss the citrus swirl.
I think they all like dough whips.
Dole whip of a mouse-shaped treat, frozen treat.
Anything.
Or pretzel.
But, yeah, we love your support, guys.
Thank you all for listening.
And, well, let's take a deep breath.
And we can do this.
It's going to be a fun day, you guys.
And now, it's even more fun because you guys get to come with us.
Yeah, so I hope you enjoy what we have to offer to do.
day. We're obviously here on Main Street in the morning. It's very chill right now because
technically the park just opened. Just. And I haven't seen any vehicles yet. Have you?
No, I haven't seen any vehicles, which is unusual because I'm usually here on Saturdays and
Sundays in the morning and they usually have a lot. But there is a bit of cloud cover. So that might be
that might be why, who knows. But it hasn't rained yet. So it might just, it is keep it the sunway.
course for at least a little bit.
Yeah, so it's kind of a nice morning.
And I'll try and remember to update you, like, what time it is as we go long, because I'm
sure we will lose track of time.
And the good news is if you're listening to this, it means we lived.
And if you don't ever get to hear this, it means we didn't live.
So there's that.
All right, let's start our day.
Let's do it.
Head to Adventureland?
Adventureland, it is.
Let's go.
Tiny little chocolate lab.
He's training.
He's training to be a service dog.
Oh, it's so talented.
He's doing well.
He's doing a hecking good job.
Oh, a heck of a big.
As a girl.
You got a breakfast bagel sandwich here at the spring roll cart for breakfast.
I do feel like it is a lost opportunity.
Why don't they do like a breakfast egg roll?
Doesn't that sound delicious?
Sunshine Tree Terrace isn't open yet, but I will be returning sometime today.
Have to visit the home of the Orange Berge?
Of course, Swiss family is already open.
Have you been up there since they remodeled it?
Oh yeah.
It's pretty good in it.
It looks nice.
I love it.
I think we're going to head through Adventureland and get in line for Big Thunder after we eat.
I think that Big Thunder has to be on our list today.
I haven't been...
This is my first time since I've been back
since the castle's been repainted.
It looks awesome.
It's the first time I've been back,
obviously, since the refurb of Big Thunder,
so I'm excited for that.
Magic carpet straight ahead.
About to get spat on, but...
Right, I'm going to push you right into the line.
No, no, no.
We're safe.
I missed.
Jungle Cruise is a walk-on right now.
It will not do the case all day.
Right?
Hey, now I'm on the right and you're on the left.
That's what happens when camels try to spit on you.
There's a leaky teakies.
They can spit on you too.
Pirates of the Caribbean also a walk on.
I feel like if you want to ride a bunch of rides.
just come to the Magic Kingdom on a day that it's supposed to be 95 degrees
and just jump out of a bunch of riots
because there's like nobody here for a Saturday.
Tortuga, which I don't think is currently open at all,
and of course beacon barrel.
So you guys probably guess we're headed into Frontierland.
It's not very often that I'm here for breakfast.
Gold Milk Outpost has a honey, what is it, honey butter?
Honey butter chicken.
Biscuit sandwich and vignets.
And of course, candied bacon.
All right, it's still very early.
It's still very chill.
We're in Frontierland.
We just ate breakfast at the outpost.
We had a honey butter biscuit chicken sandwich
with potato barrels.
Oh, and it has a...
What is it?
Halapino jam on it?
Oh my god, that was the stock.
Yeah, it was good.
The biscuit was a little fall apart.
It was a little fall aparty.
Kind of messy.
This is just close.
Yeah.
It was good.
So now we've got food in our bellies.
We're no longer hangary.
We're going to head over to Big Thunder.
While we're feeding the ibis that is stalking our food.
Very friendly, Ibis.
Because you're feeding it, of course he's friendly.
Its name is Josephine.
I love that name.
It turned when I said it, it yeah.
Humidity has begun.
The sun came out.
It's no longer cloudy.
Glad this is for sure.
Crossing the bridge.
Well, we weren't fast enough, Jay.
A line is very long.
Princess, you get pushed on.
I feel like we should let it die down and you come back a little bit or a little bit.
Not a bad idea.
I think they don't need to try to come over here this morning and it will calm down.
But while we're here, we have a good vantage point right now as you come out.
As you come off of the bridge between Tiananhas and Big Thunder,
you have a good view of what used to be the Rivers of America.
And across the way, you can see the Hauna Mansion
in all its scrimmed glory.
It's got a picture scrim on it over it.
and the entire canopy, like the line, the cube canopy, is all blocked off so you can't see all the construction from over that side.
It's wild to see it like this.
But on the other hand, Big Thunder looks beautiful.
It's got two tall smoke stacks that are smoking.
Never used to be that way.
It brings a lot of life.
and just to the cue, to the overall silhouette, really.
I'll take a picture of it.
All right, well, we're going to still hang out on Frontierland,
but I think that the line for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will chillax as the day goes on.
So we're going to go do country bears.
That's always a nice short wait.
And we're hoping that by the time we get out of that,
some of this humidity will be burned off as the clouds.
have made their exodus, and the sun has made its enthrons.
Hey, look at that big giant crane.
It actually is pretty big.
That kind of ruins it for me.
Sometimes you've got to break a few eggs.
Yuck!
I expect this kind of stuff from Knott's Berry Farm, but not here.
Not here.
I'm excited to see what the new land brings,
as much as I do miss the classic portion that we lost.
inside so just hang time. The show will be ready to go in 10 minutes. So now's the time we
remind you there's no eating. Bringing or smoking allowed in the theater. And you can take
all the photos and video you like. Just please no flash photography or video like. We've
already got Rufus on Spotify. Uh do we?
Pts, Rufus, wake up. Uh oh oh over here. Sorry.
Okay, everybody. Now, give us a little intro there. Going.
Folks, welcome to the one and only original country band musical tambourine.
Featuring a wild and woolly or saltbid of grisleys, singing a little country,
a little western, and a whole lot of everything in between.
So get those awes tapping and those claws clapping for five bears who need no introduction,
But up, deal for everybody.
Let's hear it for the fire.
Or is it Vula, Bonnie, and Boss?
Oh, where we go?
Bears is always a good time.
And we're backtracking a little bit.
We're gonna go.
Where are we going, Sam?
We're going to go right pirates of the Caribbean.
We're going to ride pirates walk on still, so we're going to do that.
So let's enjoy some Pirates of the Caribbean.
Mm, breathe in, ready?
Pirates water.
You don't even have to get into the building
before you start smelling the Pirates water.
water. My favorite, like, smell like that has always been the monorail. I don't know what it is,
but I smell the moderately. You're weird, Jay. But I really do just love the monorah. Not that I don't
look like that water. So, I'm thinking, um, since we're going to be here all day, I'm obviously
not going to record each and every little detail that we do. You're just going to hear snippets,
clips here and there of what we managed to do if we felt like it. And, you know, we're certainly
not going to do everything because even though we're here the whole time it's insane to try and do that
we're just not that young anymore so but we'll give you a little bit of each of the uh attractions and
places that we go see how far we can get sometimes maybe just the queue well we definitely got
wet on pirates today but we're going to head past the cheeky room and down the road
and i bet you can't guess where we're heading next
ride that some people take for granted.
And it does go on for Niles and Niles and Niles.
All right, well, we're going to leave the adventures of Adventureland.
And where are we going?
We are going to head over to Tomorrowland, where they have now invented air conditioning.
Oh, yes.
Yes.
Air cooling.
Air cooling.
And I think we're going to enjoy one of my absolute favorites, especially since it's about to be shut down and updated from what we understand.
Oh, no.
No, actually, I think it's, we're going to get our own.
version of the Walt animatronic like the heaven Disneyland and he's gonna be
blue sweater Walt so it's just very chill in the middle AC yes it's like my church
invention since sliced bread absolutely so we're gonna listen we're gonna get some
hub vibes as we cross over and forward into the future beautiful royal purple color
The castle really does look good, you guys
Yeah, I agree
That's how I always think of it is gray
Absolutely
It's what made it different
Yeah
You know
Not that the anniversary castle
Wasn't beautiful
But it was very much like the other castles
That feels like magic kingdom in Orlando
Absolutely
Absolutely
I'm glad to see it back to its former glory
Watch your step
It's a right of passage
To roll your ankle
on the tracks and mainstream.
Oh, we'll have to ride a new bus.
Oh, the new buzz.
I forgot about it.
Yeah, we'll ride the new bus.
I will point out as we're going over the bridge into Tomorrowland
that the moat is still drained.
It is still drained.
I think I heard that they were still doing the bottom part of the castle,
if I'm not mistaken.
It's the last part to be painted.
All right.
We're going to get in line.
here for the carousel and enjoy some air-conditioned vibes.
Hi there.
Thank you.
Which we are now about to see.
Although our Carousel family has experienced a few changes over the years,
our show still revolves around the same theme, and that's progress.
May the century begin.
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow,
shining at the end of every day.
There's a great big beautiful tomorrow.
It looks like the robins are getting ready to celebrate Valentine's.
day today. What year is it? Oh, right around the turn of the century. Believe me, things couldn't be
any better than they are today. Yes, sir, buildings are towering now as high as 20 stories. Moving pictures
flicker up on a big screen. We have almost 8,000 automobiles in this country, and we can travel by train
from New York to California in less than seven days. And I even hear tell about two brothers from North
Carolina who are working on some kind of flying contraption. It'll never work.
Closer to home, we've now got gas lamps, a telephone, and the latest design in cast iron
stove. And that reservoir keeps five gallons of water hot and just three buckets of coal.
Oh, that sure beats chopping wood. And isn't our new icebox of beauty? Look at that.
Holds 50 pounds of ice. Milk doesn't sour as quick as they used to. And our dog over here
keeps the water in the drip pan from overflowing.
It wasn't too long ago.
We had to carry water from a well.
And thanks to progress,
we've got a pump right here in the kitchen.
Of course, we keep a bucket of water handy to prime it with.
Yes, sir, we've got everything we need to make life easier.
Say, mother, I was reading about a fellow named Tom Edison
who's working on an idea for Snap-on electric lights.
Electric lights?
No more kerosene.
No more gas.
Sarah sure gets at the core of the apple.
But we do have this new washday market.
Went into Mar-Land.
One must do what, Sam?
I think one must people move.
Move those people.
Let's hop on.
And maybe stay there for the next 12 hours?
I don't know.
Personally, this is my favorite having a day.
Really?
Oh, super.
For sure.
I love the group.
This is going to pay me for Paises and I'll be said.
What's doing?
Being seated at all times, keeping hands, arms, feet, legs and other appendages inside your car.
And please supervise younger beings.
Stay clear of the doors, which will open and close automatically.
Enjoy your journey.

Please step carefully

then step to the car.
For your safety,

Put your feet up.
Relax.
Enjoy the ride.

All right, so we've hit noon, and we're getting hungry.
We're going to head over to Casey for what the kids call like Lizzie.
Tubular meats with a side of ragged.
side of ragtime piano.
That last one car, sit in a joke.
Passing through the hubgrass areas,
fountain here to our right.
Plaza restaurant to the left.
I smile the glizzies.
And Casey's right ahead.
So hopefully we can hear some ragtime piano over here.
See what we can do, what we can hear.
You said she don't be sure.
Mash up there.
Very cool. We're gonna pull up a chair. Hot-goggy goodness. Listen to some more ragtime piano.
Done with the lunch break. How is the glizzy?
Really very julepy.
Gleazy was Glyzian.
So we...
It was pretty good. Pretty juicy.
We are crossing the bridge over the dry moat.
What's beautiful river.
Into Liberty Square. You can see a break.
brightly painted Thunder Mountain in the distance.
It does look.
Sleepy Hollow to our right.
All right, we took a right, passing all the walls to the left.
Harbor House directly in front of us.
And a scrimmed up haunted mansion to the left.
Memento Mori.
I'm going to snap a picture of the scrim.
It is quite the scrim.
It's impressive. It's a photo realistic.
What's this called the actual building?
I'm not sure. They must just be tidying it up as well.
Doing a little renovations.
I heard that they have to do some more like creating the side of the.
Oh, you know, because villains land.
Yes.
Yeah, because they're doing all the villains land behind all of that.
So they're going to probably have to do a little something to hide that.
So now they can't get away with that.
That makes sense. So who knows how long it'll be like that.
Alright, we've entered into fantasy lens.
We're headed to our next attraction, which is what, Sam?
Here, now we don't even have to ride it.
It's a small world.
Beautiful. The Sherman Brothers will be proud.
So we're going to hop in line for Small World, give you a little bit of that,
and then see what happens next.
Alright, so we're bouncing all over the place, and we found ourselves back.
ourselves back in Tomorrowland and we're going to check out we're going to do the buzz
we're going to see what the new buzz light year space ranger spin has to offer and then again we're
just making it up as we go so seeing whatever we feel like doing today on this 112 hour excursion
surprises around every corner but nothing dangerous at least there are umbrellas
you can umbrella hop

you're all metal ready to cruise

the green squadron will retreat the power cell
while the rest of you

what you know
what you think of the new buzz
Jay
I like it.
I love it.
It's a lot of fun.
The effects are really, really cool.
I like the, fun intended, the buds in the gun when you hit the targets.
It's good.
And I like that it's, there's a green laser and a red laser.
So you kind of tell a little bit more where here is the zap.
Yeah.
That's good.
Nice and smooth.
I also like that they made it so that if you don't touch the joystick, the car moves anyway.
So you'll always drift
You'll leave it
Yeah you at least know where to shoot
That's good
All right I think we decided
What do we decide?
Hot a mansion
The Hott and Man Scrim
We're gonna go see the skrim
Hopefully the inside
Looks better than the outside
All right, let's go
Let's go
In just a few minutes
We will proudly present
An enchanting celebration in the street
our Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade.
And now, please welcome our honorary Grand Marshal,
the Ball family from Bristol, Tennessee.
We're going to go to the back way,
around the castle into Fantasy Light,
because as you can hear,
there's a parade coming.
Festival of Fantasy.
We could stop by the Wall and make sure.
And we get to see one of my favorite views of the castle
in between the two.
topiary shrubs on the bridge.
Got a whole crowd.
Do you guys want to stop at Philhar Magic?
I would love to see a captain.
Get some more AC?
I think so, yes.
And by the way, it's 3 o'clock now.
Hence why the parade is going on.
Not 5, 7.
Hour 7 that we've been here.
We're halfway y'all.
We're halfway.
Yeah, we're going to pop into Philhar Magic before.
we get to Hanna Mansion.
So I'll give you a little bit of that.
Presence your dinner.
Be our guest, put our service to the test.
Tie your napkin round your neck, sherry,
and we provide the rest.
Soup to Jure, hot odour,
why we all live to serve.
Try the gray stuff, it's delicious.
Don't believe me, ask the dishes.
Always a good time.
Back into Fantasyland.
Bless you.
Peter Pan's only 45 minutes.
I think we'll pass.
I was 40 and we'll be 20.
I think we'll pass on Peter Pan this time.
To the mansion.
Pass the Punzi's Potty's.
Anybody need a good stop at Punzi's Potty?
Not yet.
Mayhaps will come back to Pan.
We've got another like 200 hours left.
Right.
I'm not good at math.
Oh, breaking news.
Breaking news.
Breaking news, the punsy potty's are walled up.
New water ride coming soon.
Correct.
Here's a little water feature for you.
Let's hop in line for the mansion.
We have selected you to fill our quota,
and they'll haunt you until you return.
Out of the mansion, back in Fantasyland.
What do we do now?
I'm gonna take a rest at the potty's.
Hang out, recharge a little bit.
Then maybe, I don't know.
What's in?
Tea cups?
Sounds fun, right?
When we're hot and tired.
Right, I'm just sitting here enjoying the dance right here.
I am noticing that my voice is starting to sound very tired and low.
So I could do a very good ghost host impression now.
there's no turning back now.
So we'll just hang out here in, um,
Fantasyland area for a little bit.
We will, uh, figure it out.
So enjoy some,
some lovely, uh, fantasy land music
while we decide what we're going to do next.
We did, we did promise you guys that we were going to go to Big Thunder,
so we're on our way.
Yes, let's, um, let's do it.
It's been, I'm actually kind of looking forward to standing in line for a little while
and not doing anything.
It's been a lot
It's been go, go, go.
It was down for a little bit
and now it is back up
So we are going to
See if the line is
manageable
Looks like it's moving
So let's get in line
For Big Thunder and
Wildest ride in the wilderness has returned
Well Jay that
Certainly was
I don't know about the wildest ride in the wilderness
But it definitely was the quietest ride in the wilderness
So smooth, so quiet.
But I actually, I think it does seem faster.
That was awesome.
And all the effects are wonderful.
They really are.
Well worth the weight.
I'm excited.
Yeah, let's get in line and do it again.
Just kidding.
Oh my God.
We've got like a billion more hours to go.
We're seeking AC, so we decided on Hall of Presidents.
So we're going to hop in Hall of Presidents and relax for a little bit.
Enjoy some history.
And some robots.
And some air conditioning.
Welcome to the Hall of Presidents.
Good afternoon.
Thank you for joining us for this reverent celebration of America's leaders past and present.
Now, the Walt Disney World Resort is proud to present the Hall of Presidents.
This program is dedicated to the memory of Walt Disney.
In 1971, his love for America inspired the creation of the Hall of Presidents,
a place to celebrate the optimism and goodwill he saw at the heart of the American story.
Walt's vision was to honor the nation by honoring the American presidency.
It is 1783, and the smoke is clearing in the wake of the Revolutionary War.
Over the course of eight grinding years, General George White,
Washington has led a force of shopkeepers, farmers, and Native American allies to victory over the greatest military power in the world.
A new nation has been born, independent and free.
The founders must form a national government.
In 1787, through months of passionate debate, they create a written constitution.
For the country's highest office, they imagine something.
new in the history of the world.
A leader
not born to power like a king
or queen. A leader who
has not seized power through conquest.
A leader not separate
from the people, but
elected by the people,
from among the people.
We, this is a new
idea, an American
idea. The idea
of a president.
Four score and seven years ago,
our fathers'
brought forth from this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the
proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing
whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. We are met
on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a
portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that
nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger
sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. The brave men living
and dead who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract.
The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.
It is for us a living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here
have thus far so notably advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great
task remaining before us that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for
which they gave the last full measure of devotion we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have
died in vain that this nation under god shall have a new birth of freedom and the government
of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
The blood of over half a million Americans is spilled in this civil war.
President Lincoln's enduring hope is to give true meaning to the sacrifices of so many,
to lead us to that new birth of freedom.
All right, I hope you guys feel patriotic now after that presentation of the Hall of Presidents
We're going to head back through Fantasyland.
You can hear the carousel next to me in Pinocchio's clock tower because it is now 7 o'clock.
We're almost there, Jay.
Almost.
We're exhausted.
We had our chicken sandwich over at the Plaza Inn.
And now we're going to pivot because we were going to do it.
Because we were going to do Peter Pan.
But the line's wild, so we're going to go to New Fantasyland and see Aweil.
We're going to go under the sea, which is great because I have a mermaid with me.
Say hi, mermaid.
Hi, mermaid.
That's Katie. She's a mermaid.
Hi, Katie.
Hi, everybody.
Are you a little hard-shaped bubbles?
I wish I was that talented.
Maybe.
We'll see.
After I ride this ride,
Donald can do it in...
Fill her magic.
I think you can do it in areas.
It's true.
But Donald could do anything.
Katie's a good friend.
Been friends for 20-something years.
Fellow educator, she's here with us.
Been here since whatever time we got here.
An ungodly hour.
And we're still here.
So she's joined our crew and we're going to head over to Under the Sea with Ariel.
Look at that.
See you under the sea.
To the sea, we walked, storybook circus, and now we're entering tomorrow land next to.
We made it.
Did we?
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure that we did.
Tinkerbell flew right over us.
That's how we knew.
That was just the sign.
We made it.
Never been so happy to see someone with wings fly by and sprinkle us with dust.
