This i...s one of our longest episodes ever because we walk through nearly every area of Animal Kingdom, skipping only Rafikis Planet Watch (by plan) and Gorilla Falls Trail (by accident). Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome back to Walk About the World. Here at the most animal of all kingdoms. The hairiest place on earth. The hairiest place... No, look, no, I'm not drunk. I just had coffee. It's early. Um, but we are back in Disney's animal kingdom for a full park walkabout today. And I mean full, I think about the only thing we're not going to do is Rafiki's planet watch just because we've done that and you have to take a train, and there's not a whole lot going on over there right now, and all that stuff, but strap
Starting point is 00:00:50 in, because we are going to do a walkabout wind down, we are going to do a full park walkabout of Animal Kingdom, including all of the trails, and as luck would have it, here comes a flotilla. We are standing at the very top of the walkway to Discovery Island. We just came up through the oasis. And who approaches? It's the Turduckamonkasauruses. It is the chipmunks in dinosaur costumes. And Goofy.
Starting point is 00:01:37 I have no idea what Goof has on. I even looked at it and I still can't describe it. But wherever you are, I want you to be able to escape this week to Disney's Animal Kingdom while you work and grind out your TPS reports or whether you're on a long evening walk or jog or mowing
Starting point is 00:01:58 the lawn or a canoe trip. Yeah, I don't even know what... Do you listen on canoe trips? Probably not. But wherever you are, I want you to be able to just go along, immerse yourself in Disney's Animal Kingdom for a while. So we're going to start here where you should, in Discovery Island.
Starting point is 00:02:15 We're going to take a... You know, I'm debating whether I should do stores as part of this full park walkabout. I'm not sure. We may. If you find yourself in a store auditorily, don't be surprised. But right now, we are standing at the entrance to Discovery Island, Riverside Depot to your right, Island Mercantile or Mercantile to your left, the Tree of Life, huge in the foreground. And it is is beautiful just a few clouds out we are here in the morning
Starting point is 00:02:47 which is different for us and i'm here in the morning because central florida right here now in july is the surface of the sun later on it's supposed to be 96 uh and that's that's temperature 96 it'll feel probably like 105 not kidding so i thought I would pop in early and just do a stroll. And if you guys are ready, I'm ready. Let's get to it. Here we go. Here we go. One thing that I've noticed is that the rental strollers,
Starting point is 00:03:31 the little Mickey and Minnie rental strollers are incredibly loud. For relaxation, I'm not sure you can beat Discovery Island ambience. I'm going to show you how to make a Flo Tilla beating the absolute crap out of some drums not far away I don't have it. Directly in front of the Tree of Life now. Photo passes, all photo passing. Bless you. Thank you. Trees are green Sky is blue Scent of sunscreen thick in the air. It's summer vacation here in Florida.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Okay, we've headed left as you're facing the Tree of Life. Oh, Terran, we like you. Hey, yeah. Oh, Terran, you're lying to me. Hey, man. You think it's going to bomb us? It's going to. Bobby. Bobby.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Bobby. For the rest of your day. He gets it. And we're going to end up... I think we're going to do Pandora last. And so I wanted to come over here to the left because there's a Tree of Life trail. We're passing Pete Safari, by the way.
Starting point is 00:07:39 We're passing the Otter Grotto. Being careful to enunciate my T's. Because I'm an American and those become D's very quickly. Otter Grotto. But here is the Tree of Life Garden Trail. And I always pop right by it, but we're not going to do that today. It's a hidden gem of a trail. All kinds of beautiful remiliads to our left. They have an entire
Starting point is 00:08:24 basically entire garden here made of remiliads to our left. They have an entire, basically, entire garden here made of remiliads and crinum lilies. You can look that up. I would take a picture. I'm going to have to make an effort to do that today because I have you in one hand.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Is that weird? The microphone in one hand. Is that weird? The microphone in one hand, and I have Starbucks coffee in my left hand. And there are some beautiful purple blooming thingies here. Can't help myself. Off to the side of the trail.
Starting point is 00:09:02 It is a garden trail, and that fits me perfectly. All right, less talk, more walk. directly beneath the tree of life and i mean directly i'm touching it tree of life garden goes right underneath it and you can hear the waterfall coming up but absolutely gorgeous you can't get a better view of the tree than from down here. Walk right up to it. I'm guessing many a guest doesn't even know this is here. Okay, side of water. Here we go. Rødgrød Nettopp, vi er på veien. I love this area. Blooming white crinum lilies off to my right along the trail it was worth the morning just for this
Starting point is 00:11:46 okay here's a hot take that that that drum flotilla needs to go away making my stand here, I'm not going to go back. That thing is annoying. As you come down to the end of the Tree of Life trail, you can actually see the waterfall that we just walked behind. And it's framed by a smaller waterfall that you can hear now, and a little stream that you walk across, headed back towards Discovery Island. And man, it's beautiful. Wonderful picture shot from right here. Photo spot. And I can still hear the drums. Jeez. Okay. We are back in Discovery Island
Starting point is 00:13:00 because it dumps you out right across from... store is this the discovery trading company basically put you dumps you out right across from the door tree of life now to our right. Let's pop in Discovery Trading Company because why not? The air-conditioned calls. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:13:43 They have an incredible collection of Orange Bird merch over here. Right before you go in the store, the whole area is nothing but Orange Bird. Orange Bird shirt that says Think Orange, which actually has the symbol of Spaceship Earth as an orange on it, which is interesting for Animal Kingdom, but that's okay. We have a
Starting point is 00:13:59 we have a Orange Bird purse by Lounge Fly. Were I to carry purses, I would buy this immediately. Kissed by the sun. It's got all of the nations of World Showcase along the bottom with Orange Bird featured in the center. Again, it's Epcot merch here, but that's okay. And the theme apparently is Think Orange on all of this stuff. They have a little
Starting point is 00:14:27 cookie jar. Okay, enough merch description. I am on the lookout for the Orange Bird Magic Band Plus. I hear it is hard to find. Okay. Discovery Trading Company. Here we go. Sometimes it's worth it just to pause in these places. By the way, it is empty. I feel like I need to whisper because there's almost nobody in here but us. But pause and just look around at the decor of these things.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Incredible. Sculptures and the tapest set up here. Right across from Flame Tree BBQ. Ready for Viva Gaia later Kevin's awesome. It is so empty, it's freaky, because I guarantee you, every single human being that's in this park right now is over in pandora but we are going to walk back through the seating area of flame tree barbecue because again we're we're doing it all today here we go Kampung Kampung If you haven't dined or just taken yourself and a water, back here in the dining area of Flame Tree BBQ, you are missing a gem.
Starting point is 00:17:31 They have a huge square shallow pool with a waterfall. You're standing directly over it. The path goes directly over it. Seating all around it, leading right up to the edge of Discovery River. Wonderful place to watch kite tales. You can see the Forbidden Mountain in the distance right across the water. And it has some of the best musical ambience of the park. Also, as a reminder, we have two full episodes of just this, if you want to go looking.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Two episodes of Discovery Island ambience. Let's walk around this area a little bit. And here the water feature has a shallow waterfall as you can hear. It flows under our path. Whoa! Whoa. And flows out into Discovery River, where apparently... Greetings, friend. Yes. Welcome to Disney Kite Tales, where we will journey to the splendor of Disney's The Lion King
Starting point is 00:18:41 with a colorful kite display of high-flying magic. And as you all know, what goes up must come down. You will see our kites landing in plain sight both in the water and in a designated landing zone. Now look to the lagoon as we allow the magic of Disney storytelling to soar like never before. Okay. A-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, a-la, Thank you. Luce, vesta, to, cus, cus, cus, cus, Cosa ne disa, o? Cus, cus, cus,
Starting point is 00:20:15 Cosa ne disa, o? Cus, cus, cus, Sing it. And that's what... Simba just landed and or crashed. I think one day... By the way, this is what Kite Tales is like now. The screams. It's just like little five-minute snippets. They just bring one or two kites out, have a little bit of music, and that's it. I think one day, I tell you where we are.
Starting point is 00:22:00 We are at the rightmost seating area, and man, it is perfect right here, because you are right on the water. I mean, the table where I am is right on the water. You can probably even hear it lapping. And right across the way is Everest, and you have the wonderful ambience here. You have the breeze blowing through, and you have a front row seat for Kite Tails. I think one day we'll come over here and just see if we can sit here for, I don't know, maybe an hour, maybe a half an hour. I'm not sure the frequency here, but see if we can just catch a bunch of the kite tail shows.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I suppose we could edit it so that you don't have to sit here for an hour, but I'm lazy. I'm a lazy, lazy man, Roger. Josh can edit that one. Alright. Let us proceed. There's your flame tree barbecue area tour. We're going to walk back out of this area and head over towards Dinoland USA and we're going to head around that way. Oh man
Starting point is 00:23:27 It smells so good Alright there is Discovery Trading Company Where we came out of Just a minute ago Viva Gaia stage and Passing the wonderful Smelling flame tree Barbecue entrance on the left and right ahead of us, Dinoland USA.
Starting point is 00:23:55 I can hear what I have often described as gibbons. I think they're saimans? Yeah, I don't know. Passing trilobites, I don't know. Passing Trilobites. Trilobite snacks. Buffalo chicken chips they have. And Dole Whip orange and vanilla. Closed.
Starting point is 00:24:20 As you can tell, we are headed into the most baking of all areas of Disney's Animal Kingdom, which is Dinoland USA. The large dino skeleton right above us. The weirdest music, also, in all of the parks. Dinosaur off to your right, Chester and Hester's to your left. The iconography for the Dino Institute.
Starting point is 00:25:06 I absolutely love it. Exploration, excavation, and exaltation. Turning the right, back here towards all of the little restaurants, we have Dino Bite Snacks. Close. This is your ice cream area. A lot of seating, actually, back here. Walking on sunshine, too. Here we have Restaurantasaurus with the old Airstream.
Starting point is 00:25:55 Restaurantosaurus, of course, where you can get all of your burgers, fries, nuggets. There's a little sign here that I haven't noticed And you know, that's kind of what we do It says your food scraps haven't fossilized We fertilize these plants with dirt made from your trashed tableware and leftovers The Compost-O-Saurus Club That's very cool I hope that's actually true. It does feel good.
Starting point is 00:26:34 The coffee. I mean, still drinking it. Back to the entrance of Dinosaur now. We're going to turn around, take a left, and go back towards the Dino-rama. Dino-rama. The Dino-rama, much like my beloved Fountain of Nations, is a smoking crater of nothingness. If for whatever reason you find yourself here in Central Florida in Disney's Animal Kingdom, and you think, it's 96, but I would really like it hotter, what you could do is go over here and ride the Triceratops spin where you can sit in a plastic seat that's been baking in the sun and then you yourself can bake
Starting point is 00:27:32 in the sun. Oh wait, one of the best songs ever. We have to stop. Right? right never had a stegosaur digging digging dino land all right All right. Because we want the full experience, I'm going to walk right across what is now just a field of very carefully decorated asphalt. It's actually concrete made to look like asphalt. Right through the middle of the midway.
Starting point is 00:28:56 Try a ceratops spin to your left. Hurts me just to look at it. It does not hurt me to look towards the right. Because I couldn't stand that ride. I don't like the smoking crater of nothingness, but here's to hoping that they will put in something really cool over here. We have Bronto Score, Fossil Fueler, the Dino Diner,
Starting point is 00:29:24 Comet Casher. I have never done any of these. The mammoth marathon. The old fossil fueler has signs over here for each of the little stations that you can use. And we have terra oil, extincto, roctane, fossilene, jergassic, and gasodon. I've never noticed some of these details. Good morning. passing under backside of Cementosaurus here, where once I took refuge from a pouring thunderstorm. I've told you that story before.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Now we are heading off towards the theater in the wild, where I am very happy to report the Finding Nemo musical is now back again. It's a different version of it, and I need to do that soon. It's one of Heather's favorite things, and I really love it too.
Starting point is 00:31:01 This is Nemo, the Big Blue and Beyond. There's a good line for it. That's encouraging. Crossing the bridge now over into Circa Zong. One of my favorite vistas here. Looking back towards the Forbidden Mountain
Starting point is 00:31:24 and all of the prayer flags are across the walkway love it I don't know about you, but I love hearing so many different languages when I walk through the park. Somebody tell me what language that was. As soon as you walk into Circa Zong, if you look towards your left, there is one of the most beautifully ornate stone buildings, whitewashed and red walls. Some of the best ambience, and it is actually a photo pass spot.
Starting point is 00:32:34 You can wait at the bottom, and they take you up the stairs, and you can get your photo. But it's just a gorgeous building. Love the details. Thanks, Joe Rohde thanks crew all right let's go hear some screaming that's right. As you walk down the stone steps here, look to your left.
Starting point is 00:33:19 You see all kinds of carved stone tablets with Yeti iconography. Let's go over here to the screaming viewing area. so The absolute best coaster in all of Disney World. Fight me. Okay, what is the wait time for Everest today? Standby 40. That is not bad at all. I'm going to wander over here towards the Thirsty River Bar. There's a drink that I was looking for. I think it might be time.
Starting point is 00:34:42 A non-alcoholic version. I'll rejoin you here in just a moment. Be advised, do not try to sleep here. A lovely non-alcoholic drink procured. It is the Pink Lotus from the Thirsty River Bar. And it is a lychee lemonade and it is delicious and cool and 100% sugar and a certain humble host is watching his sugars that would would be me. But I'm also walking around like crazy, so you know what?
Starting point is 00:35:28 We're going to cheat a little today. Currently, standing right next to the very ornately detailed and decorated Anandapur ice cream truck, which is indeed open, as it should be, because the heat is rising folks all right we're gonna make our way over here to Gupta's gear where we tried to record some ambience the other weekend kite tails wouldn't wouldn't cooperate
Starting point is 00:36:01 with us see if we have any better luck today. Yes, indeed. Yes indeed Because it's $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25. $25.

Starting point is 00:37:11 Nice job, guys. That's our cue. Let's keep walking. passing what is labeled as the Yeti Palace Hotel, a.k.a. bathrooms. And we are going to make a right, headed... Sorry, looking at the sign bank headed towards Cali River Rapids entry and booking office up ahead raft with us the name you trust hi Alright, let's do a jungle trek. I'm climbing down! Aw, it's okay.
Starting point is 00:38:13 I'm climbing down! It happens to the best of us, my pal. Oh. Jungle trekkers, please apprehend that tigers are frequently encountered in the ruins ahead. Jungle trekker, please apprehend that tigers are frequently encountered in the ruins ahead. I'll be careful. You'll be dead! Yes, it's a non-alcoholic drink stop.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Hey, hurry up, Wayne. Come on. Wayne, hurry up, Wayne. Come on. Wayne, hurry up. So nice and shady back here that I have to take my sunglasses off. Huge stick of bamboo. Love this stuff. First time I visited the parks, the year after it first opened, I was blown away by the bamboos.
Starting point is 00:39:47 Is that the plural of bamboo? Thank you. You're welcome. This is the bat area. Spare our bats, the sign says. We rely on bats for the life of our crops. Fruit-eating bats pollinate plants and drop seeds as they fly. I don't think they dropped them from their hands. Do they have hands? Claws? Thank you.
Starting point is 00:40:31 Thank you. Thank you. Morning. Good day, friend. Good morning. Good day, friend. Good morning. Alright, we're going through the Red Pavilion. Into the aviary, one of my favorite areas. We may pause here for a few. Double doors, screened. There's the little chain thingies.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Now we're in the aviary. Nests above. You hear them? I love to see the people ducking. It is beautiful and cool back here. Birds flying everywhere. Can you hear the cyangimans in the distance? Kampung Kampung Breathe in and breathe out. Very thick foliage above, the sunlight being filtered down through the leaves. Very dappled light in here. This area is a treasure. Good morning. Ketua-ketua tersebut diperlukan di kota-kota tersebut. Kepala Kepala Okay, exiting the aviary, coming up. That was fun. Hi, can I come through? Thank you. The young travelers were holding the chains
Starting point is 00:45:32 for me. Norske Norske And now we are exiting the Jungle Trek. Right back where we started. The Saimans are out. Let's go hear them for a second. You know what? I wasn't wrong. There are two enclosures here. One has gibbons, which I'm looking at right now, and across the way, where we were prior, is the Symax.
Starting point is 00:46:59 So there you go. Okay, we're going to take a left here on the main walkway past the Cali River Storage Lockers back out towards the heart of Anandapur, which is probably my favorite area of the park. It's a toss-up between Anandapur and Harambe most days. I love the aesthetic over here. I'm going to duck into the Bhaktapur Market, right across from the Saimans. I love this little area. Some of the most unique gifts you can buy. They have a lot of non-Disney related items in here.
Starting point is 00:48:24 Incense. Buddha statues. incense Buddha statues statues of sorry, pausing to look at the sign bangs again statues of Indian gods t t-shirts, some cool clothing. And here we are, right next to the Royal Anandapur Tea Company and Anandapur local food cafes, smells of coffee, and it is wonderful. Right here in the heart of Anandapur.
Starting point is 00:49:15 Coming up on the drink wallow can't get a frozen coke and drink wallet today but we did that recently so I don't feel too bad And we were going to go straight ahead Down past The Feathered Friends in Flight And See if any of our musicians Are out today. Standing over here to the left near the Discovery River and by Josh's favorite tree in all of the parks, the Big Banyan Tree.
Starting point is 00:50:54 We know it's a Big Banyan Tree because the sign literally says that. I'm standing next to the stage where the sitar player whose stage name is escaping me right now I know you're going to scream at your iPhone I'll think of it in like two minutes or now but not on duty right now
Starting point is 00:51:22 I could check the schedules but again, lazy. Passing up country landing on your left and heading out of Anandapur headed towards Harambe folks man it smells so good here what does Mr. Kamal's have cooking today

Starting point is 00:52:57 Available with vodka. You know, I don't feel the need to pour alcohol into my shave ice. I think it's just fine the way it is. That is the Anandapur Railway that you're hearing. That goes out to Rafiki's Planet Watch and you can see it in the seating area for Harambe Market. We will walk back there. I can tell the crowd is growing as we move towards the Ram Bay and Pandora I think I was going to see more of the sculptures actually All right, let's head into Harambee is now my favorite area of the park. Now, it's a sausage market. Uwe Nacico Njemma. Have a fine day.

This is a store where you can find a lot of safari-themed items. Hats, vests safari themed plushies okay this is cool they have a tree of Life set here that you can buy that opens up. It has rooms inside of the Tree of Life, and it has little animals that come with it.

Man, it looks good and smells wonderful. I'm starving. I may have to circle back to this. This is how you watch it.

Starting point is 01:07:29 What a great place to sit and watch the world go by a while. Just love it. All right, let's head over towards our right, which takes us through the theater district of Harambe, past the Lion King show, which is now back to its full operational power or something. The Tumbled Monkeys are back. Hoteli Buradika.
Starting point is 01:08:08 To your right, the sign says. And right here at the entrance to the theater district, to your left and to your right, are concrete benches, faded red and faded green. One says Uhuru 1961. One says Harambe. And on the green Harambe stone bench, many moons ago, you and I enjoyed a coffee and listened to the morning.
Starting point is 01:08:42 One of my favorite episodes. I always think of it when I walk by. Passing the Customs and Compliance building. Beautiful stone whitewashed building here that marks the entrance to the Lion King Theater. And to your left is the Harambee Harbor. I'll walk over and take a look because I just love it. Discovery River curves by here and they have a boat docked unloading its wares.
Starting point is 01:09:32 Here's the Harambee theater. Please enjoy our beautiful restaurant. It's not often that somebody is proud enough of their bathroom to say, Come on, enjoy. Not at all saying that it's not possible to enjoy a restaurant. By the way, we are passing Mr. Matumbo's Fishing Tours building to our left. You can book upstairs, by the way. And to our right is Harambe House. As I've pointed out many times, in Swahili below it says Telatini Natatu, which means 33.
Starting point is 01:10:50 That is the Club 33 building. And one of my life goals, not kidding, is to have a drink in that very building. The rest of the Club 33 locations, even the one in Disneyland, I'll pass. This one, I want to go in there. So, Pete, when you win the Mega Millions, we'll join Club 33. Actually, they probably won't let us in, but we'll try. Or some wealthy, rich, and powerful pal can convince them to let me in the door one day and I can have a drink over there.
Starting point is 01:11:32 All right, we are now on the boardwalk area that leads from Harambe alongside the Discovery River over towards Pandora. And you can already see with your ears that the soundscape is changing, and it is about 430 degrees back here. So I'm going to huff and puff my way
Starting point is 01:11:52 up the boardwalk. Sounds like we're headed off-world. The Nettokensis Oh well Ngati Kamei, I see you. Welcome to the Valley of Malara, the sign says. Let's take a right and head down into the main area here next to wind traders Kepala Kampung Satooli Canteen seating area ambience I love it back there here's the amp suit directly in front of us and Pongu Pongu refreshments. Let's duck into Windtraders for some cool Pandoran merch, viewing, and crispy AC.
Starting point is 01:15:21 I like crispy lemons and crispy AC. Oh, my God. It's positively arctic in here, and I love it. They have a really cool olive drab vest over here with some RDA patches which is kind of cool. It's so cool! That would knock it out of here without you playing with it. You're gonna shoot your eye out kid. They really do have some incredibly themed Pandora Land water bottles over here, day and night themed water bottles. I'll take a picture for you. Are these corksicle?
Starting point is 01:16:34 No. No. Very nice however I just love it in here. As I've said many times, Pandora has grown on me. And this store is one of my favorites. They just have some really unique stuff. I'm a magnet collector. Our refrigerator is full of them.
Starting point is 01:17:22 They have a new Pandora Banshee magnet. For the gentleman who said we talk too much on iTunes reviews, I'm sorry. I imagine him in pain right now, throwing his phone across the room. Incredible metal and vibrant blue Banshee avatar pins.
Starting point is 01:17:54 They just really have some good merch in here, seriously. all the cool rope and braid work above is amazing you have another water bottle here that I really love. Five years on Pandora. World of Avatar it says. With some cool art. Is this a purse? Do you ever think, I just want to be a kid so I can buy these toys again? Well, it wouldn't be again in this case, but I could buy toys again. Then I think, wait, I'm a grown man.
Starting point is 01:19:08 I can buy any toy I want. Except for, I already have too much stuff. Some Pandora themed safari hats some very cool Chicago or Chicago themed shirts they have a wall tapestry here and on tapestry that I kind of love. And I know, right now, you're like, dude, this is a podcast, not a YouTube channel. Si va ko! Si va ko? What does siivako mean?
Starting point is 01:20:07 Rise to the challenge. So it is the phrase used when the Navi first mount the Banshee. It's like a coming of age thing, so they have to shout that out as kind of an acknowledgement. So when they're adopting a Banshee over there, that's why we're shouting it out. That's cool. And now you know. I actually didn't know that okay let's head out of one traders and back onto the surface of the Sun I never knew that Pandora was so hot We have officially worn out our
Starting point is 01:20:48 morning cool period. We've now entered the bacon smelly period here at the hairiest place on earth. That said, we are coming up on the floating mountains and it's shady and you have the waterfalls
