I've never seen such a happy dog in my life, Diane.
Look how happy is.
Bobby is running around.
I mean, this is insane.
I might need to take it.
Oh, no.
Bobby's running into the film crew.
Bobby!
So this week is a Walking the Dog sequel
with the wonderful comic actor and writer Diane Morgan,
who you may remember was a guest recently.
Diane didn't have a dog,
so we went out with two pugs belonging to some friends.
And I'm not saying this is all down to me,
but a week later,
she contacted the Blue Cross Pet Welfare charity and decided to get her very own dog.
By the way, I totally am saying this is all down to me.
He is a seven-year-old poodle called Bobby and he's adorable.
And Diana's obsessed with him.
They're like the winning Love Island couple, except with the breaking up after filming bit.
I really hope you enjoy my quick catch-up with Diane and Bobby and his first meeting with Ray.
And if you want to find out more about Blue Cross, do go to Blue Cross.
dot org.uk. Here's Diane and Bobby. Is it weird to find it cute when they go to the toilet?
Oh, I love it. Their facial expressions. Yeah, they look up it's sort of a shame but also
vulnerable and sweet and don't look at, oh, it's not, hang on.
They want, we're such responsible dog owners. We just walked out on the red light.
It's almost, it's vulnerability, isn't it? Yeah. But it's, um, do the face. Do the
that your dog does. Okay he did. How does Bobby do? Like a bit embarrassed. Don't look
don't look at me. Yeah, don't look at me. Well it's almost like we both know this is
awkward. Yeah. Let's just get through it. Yeah. It's a bit like when you look at a human
or the toilet really. Look at him go. Oh Bobby. Oh, Bob. Can I say Bobby has a great leg
I know, isn't it great?
Raymond's is a bit pathetic.
Look, he's going to go.
Diane.
Oh, let's have a look.
Competitive.
Look at his tiny leg cock.
Oh, I didn't even see the leg with the head.
Okay.
Enough of that.
I love watching him walk upstairs.
He walks like this.
He's got brilliant legs.
Okay, so I'm going to introduce the podcast.
Come on, Bobby.
Come on, Bobby.
I'm not with Bobby Dabro by the way.
That's the dog I'm calling because this is, I think,
one of the most exciting Walking the Dog podcasts I've ever done.
It's actually not even, it's a 2.0. It's a sequel.
Because I'm with the very wonderful Diane Morgan,
who did my podcast, Walking the Dog recently,
went out with some pugs and then what happened, Diane?
then that made me go out and get a toy poodle instead.
Not that the pugs weren't absolutely delightful.
No offence to Jonathan Ross, who is the owner of the park.
To be fair, it's very difficult to get hold of a pug.
They're quite rare on the rescue websites.
I don't think the pugs did themselves any favours by running off with a chair on their backs.
No, that's true.
But also, I didn't want to go to a rescue website and go,
I will only have this breed of dog.
Because I think that's a bit weird.
What happened? You'd been thinking of getting a dog for a while when I met.
Seriously for a few months.
Yeah.
And I'd applied for a few, but didn't hear back, things like that.
Obviously, I was deemed unsuitable for the dog I applied for.
And then I saw Bobby.
Because I'd signed up to all these rescue websites to let me know when they've got fresh dogs come in.
Yeah.
And then I opened it up one morning
There was Little Bobby's face
And I instantly thought
Oh, I like that dog
Do you think that's what Sid Little said
When he first
There he was, Little Bobby's face
Yeah
Well we should say I'm with Bobby
We're with Bobby today, we're in
Russell Square
Look at Little Raymond
And I've got my dog Raymond
And we've got Diane's dog
Bobby
Come on Ray! Say hello to Bobby
And Bobby is a, what kind of dog exactly is he?
He's a toy poodle.
Yeah.
He's grey toy poodle, seven years old.
He's absolutely beautiful.
He's an absolute sausage.
He's good as gold.
He's, well, I hope he's not a sausage.
They've missed him.
No.
He's beautiful though.
He's very quiet, isn't he?
Like Raymond.
Yeah, yeah.
He's a bit shy sometimes.
Oh, look, Diane.
Oh, look.
What's happened here?
Raymond's met someone.
It's a little, hello.
Is that a...
Pekinese. Mine's actually Shih Tzu.
A sipsu? I'm sure he's got Pekinese in.
Oh look. Oh look. Oh my god. This dog just walked on its hind legs.
On its front legs? Front legs. Yeah not high. What's doing away? What
such a dog is this? Is this a shi? A Maltese.
Oh look. What's your dog called?
Zipper. Zipper? Yeah. Oh, zipper.
I've been trying to get over a girlfriend and I couldn't get one at the Jason's Supermate.
Zipper!
I used to have a pegyny's when I was done.
Oh really?
Hey man, did you want to see Zipper?
Hello Zipper!
Hey!
Lovely to meet you.
Come on, Raymond.
Bye.
Bye.
Bye.
Bye.
Oh, Zipper's ever so cute.
Yeah.
I was a nice friend for you boys.
So tell me about...
Yes.
So you went...
So I saw this dog.
Yeah.
Thought, yeah, that's the one for me.
I read about it and they said this is the perfect dog.
Yeah.
They're probably going to say that about every dog, aren't they?
This is a bit of a nightmare.
So this is the Blue Cross we should say.
This is the Blue Cross website.
We were brilliant dog chariote, a pet welfare charity, I think they call himself.
But Bobby was in Manchester in Radcliffe.
So very near where I'm.
I see you with a northern dog.
Yes, exactly.
So I thought I'm going to apply for this dog.
And they got back to me.
And next day, I was up to Manchester.
And did you have a really, how did you feel when you saw him?
The great thing was that they, you go to a park separately on your own and then they bring the dog to you.
So it's like the dog goes on a walk.
So it's not kind of.
a serious sterile room sort of thing.
It's like having a matchmaker is one of those New York matchmakers.
Yeah, there was no pressure.
Yeah.
And you could take him to a room and play ball with him to, you know, see if he's your kind of dog, basically.
And he was?
He was, but I felt like I wanted to see, you know, what he was like.
So Bobby Seven?
Yeah.
And what was his backstory?
Well, they said that he came from...
His origin story?
He came from a family where the two daughters looked after him really.
But then I think they went to university or got a job somewhere
and went off and couldn't look after him anymore.
So he was left with the mum and dad.
Right.
And I think they were busy at work.
They left him in a cage from like 8 in the morning until 6.30 at night.
No one puts Bobby in a cage.
No, it's too long. It's too long.
Yeah.
So obviously we can't have that and put him up for adoption.
So now he's just so happy to be out of his little cage.
The slightest thing you give him a biscuit you think he's just won an Oscar.
Oh, Diane.
And I know when we were speaking on the last time we met,
we were talking about how you've been through a bereavement and,
Yeah. I think for me personally, I think dogs are such positive things to invite into your life.
They're just full of joy. Yeah. It really helps with grief, I think.
Yeah. You see their little faces and you sort of put everything in perspective.
I know. Oh, Diane, he's so beautiful.
He's sweet. So how are you finding? Did you have that strange sense of when you got home?
People always say they feel like that when they bring a child home.
I was very overprotective.
Were you?
Yeah.
Terrified that I was going to kill it immediately.
And I have to, you know, ring them up and go, I'm really sorry.
I didn't know that they couldn't drink battery acid.
Or forget that they can't eat chocolate or something.
Or like taking for a walk and he was walking off a broken glass or something.
Everything was kind of like a danger.
but um this is what's good we didn't have children oh god
can you imagine
overprotective
oh do I have someone else is filming there
why don't we let them off and get them to ruin their filming
shall we? Do you let Bobby off the leave?
Do you know I was terrified to let him off
because apparently he's got really good recall
but you just think that the first time
they might run off and just not come back
I know well I think when you'll get it when he's getting to know his manner
which he is because this is his local man
I mean I'm tempted because it's quite quiet now to let him off.
I'm going to let Ray in a little patch here.
See here you go.
There you go.
Let's see.
Come on.
Oh no, see what happens with my dog.
What's happened?
What's happened?
Oh, that's so lovely.
Come and see Bobby.
Come on, Ray.
There you go.
Yeah.
Let's have a walk.
Come on.
My dog does that thing, you know, where they're called Zoomies.
Oh yes.
Where they go knots and run in a circle.
Have you had that?
those then puppy zoomies. I might throw the ball. So is Bobby sleeping on the bed, Diane?
Um, we try not to let him sleep on the bed, but look at his little face.
Well, that's got me into trouble so many times.
Look at him. Bobby.
Bobby. Oh, what's that, Bobby? He likes this to look at Ray. Ray's very jealous because I'm
wielding Ray's gonzo toy.
Do you know what I want to make Bobby do?
That trick, you know where you go, stick them up?
And they put their hands up.
Oh, yeah.
And then you shoot them and they roll over.
Oh, shall we teach you tricks, Bobby?
Oh, look.
He's running over to the producer.
Oh.
He really likes her.
Yeah, he does, isn't he?
I think it's because she's young.
I'm blonde, yeah.
Do you know, he's so shallow.
Yeah, they're all the same, aren't they?
He's a bit of a hookballer.
Have you had a moment sort of like, oh my God, have I done the right thing?
No, not a fleeting second.
Yeah, really?
I'm just so happy ever since.
Because I'm at home quite a lot as well, you know, writing or whatever.
Yeah, yeah.
And it's just nice having a little fairy friend following you about.
Oh, I'm honestly so happy for you.
And I'm so thrilled that you'd come on the podcast.
Yeah, I know a lot of people thought that you'd caused that from the last podcast.
I had so many people going, this is Emily Dean.
She's done this.
She's made you have a dog.
I didn't disavow them of that fact.
I said it was all the answer to me.
Bobby.
Bobby.
Look at him.
Oh, he's off.
Oh, he's a fast runner, Diane.
Yeah, he's really fast.
Bobby.
Bobby.
Bobby.
Bobby.
So with the Blue Cross then, Diane.
Yeah.
Do you keep in touch with them in terms of...
Bobby.
That was so weird.
We were talking about this, weren't we?
So basically...
Yeah, go on.
Explode.
There was a woman that's like, if you have to like,
If you had a Disney villain in a cartoon.
Like she was sucking a lemon.
And you said to the animator, look, here's a picture of the sort of thing I'm thinking of.
Bit witchy.
Bit witchy and also permanent sort of roll doll character.
Facing unhappy emoji.
A little bobby ran over to a hotel wagging.
Sweet as a little sausage.
Smiling.
Shoo!
Shoo!
What do you think what's wrong with you?
Are you dead?
I mean, you know, soulless.
I know.
They only want to be friends.
Yeah.
I hope Raymond will we can become friends, by the way.
Yeah, I think that he's getting a bit more confident with him now, look.
They just need to get to know each other, don't they?
Yeah, yeah.
It's just for, and also they have to sniff each other.
You have to sniff each other.
Oh, look.
Little, is it Papua or Chihuahua?
Chihuahua.
Beautiful.
What's your Chihuahua called?
Stormy.
Stormy.
This is Raymond.
Oh,
Bobby's a bit aloof.
This is Bobby.
Bobby's sort of, um,
voted with his feet.
Oh, do you know?
What I get the sense of with Bobby is,
he's just can't believe.
Yeah, that he's out of a cage.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's almost like, God, there's so much to see and do.
That's it.
He's really enjoying life.
Yeah.
I took into Canber Sands the other day.
Oh, did he like the beach?
He loved it.
Bobby.
Bobby?
Raymond is three in December, so he's two in a bit, yeah.
He's having a bit of a run in with the Chihuahua.
My money's on Bobby in there.
Oh, get away.
I'm going to go over here because they're filming something
and I'm worried we're going to end up in the background of some porn film or something.
So you were telling me as well, you're filming Afterlife at the moment.
Yeah, yeah, about to.
rehearsing so I'll start filming. You were saying you might bring Bobby? Yeah I well I asked
Ricky if I could bring him on set and he said yeah because obviously he loves dogs
and Bobby's so well behaved it's unbelievable. We're saying this I say that as he's running
around like a lunatic. He's such a happy dog in my life Diane look how happy is.
Bobby is running around I mean this is insane I might need to take him oh oh oh oh oh
running into the film group. Bobby! I like this. So we've just encountered, oh is that
that lady's dog as well? You've got two dogs. I like those dogs. It's a sort of sandy colour.
I always think they look a bit like bungle in rainbow. Yes, they've got a lot of a bungle in them.
I always think Bobby looks a bit like sweep. Yes, you don't.
Do you know, these are a good couple. I think they're a bit better match than you, Ray.
Let's have a look.
This is what I like, Diane, is the dog.
The dog soup, as I call it.
Dog soup.
What's your dog called?
Fred.
Fred.
Oh, he's lovely.
This is Raymond and this is Bobby.
We've got very traditional names, haven't you?
Fred, Bob, Ray, Stormy.
Stormy's got the most exotic name.
Stormy's a bit more Brit Awards.
My daughter, Kylie Jenner, daughter.
Oh, Kylie Jenner's daughter.
Right, yeah, yeah.
Oh, lovely.
Nice to meet you.
Yeah, nice to meet you.
Come on, Bobby.
Oh.
You see, Diane?
Yeah.
That's why it's the trick.
Yeah.
Because I love the encounters.
Yeah.
That's what I enjoy.
Do you mean extra casing yourself?
Yeah, but sometimes if they go on long
and you've got to go somewhere.
Yeah.
I think, lovely to meet you.
Yeah, lovely to meet you.
It was a great get-out, isn't it?
Yeah.
Is there any other dog?
etiquette things you want to ask.
Dog etiquette.
But Barth thing he's struggling with, he told me.
Yeah, he starts to growl if you try and...
Even the running of a tap.
He doesn't like that.
But I don't know why, because obviously...
Yeah.
I'm not going to hurt him.
And how's Mr. Dian getting on with Bobby?
Yeah, so...
In the podcast, you said Mr Dian wasn't so keen.
Yeah, Mr. Dian, otherwise knows Ben.
Not bothered about dogs.
I told him I wanted a dog and he was like,
oh well, you know, if it's going to make you happy,
we'll get one, but don't expect me to do anything or like it.
Yeah.
So I got Bobby.
Now he's in love with Bobby.
Oh.
Bobby loves Ben.
Oh.
Ben's talking about getting a jacket in case he's cold in the winter.
And I thought, what a turn around.
What a turnaround.
Yeah, he's wormed his way into his affections.
But you know what's nice?
That man just smiled at ass.
Yeah, that's the way you should react.
And I love it because...
That man just smiled at us,
but what I feel is that it's like the opposite of having a weapon.
It's like walking around with a really...
With a love heart balloon.
Isn't it?
A helium-filled love heart.
Do you get the filter from there?
It's a good test of people.
It really is.
Yes. Yeah, are you good or bad?
And do you, have you got into a walking routine with Bobby yet?
Well, I'm so, because I'm so excited to have him, I'm sort of walking him every 10 minutes.
Because of his little cage situation, I thought, you know.
Because he was in the cage before.
Yeah. So, uh, so I like to take him out a lot.
Yeah.
Morning, lunchtime.
And do you think, I mean, Bobby's seven, isn't he?
Yeah.
And I was saying what's so lovely about what you've done
is that it means he's probably had some challenges,
certainly in the last few years it sounds like.
And how lovely that you've given, you know,
he's suddenly got a whole new life.
Yeah, and you really feel responsible,
like you want him to be happy.
You know, you want them to feel cared for.
I've never seen such a happy excited girl.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, he's...
You're lovely, aren't you?
Come on, Robbie, you really gained in your confidence the last hour.
Yeah, he has, yeah.
Don't you think?
Yeah.
And was he called Bobby when you got him, don't it?
He was.
Yeah.
And I did think about changing it to Ronnie,
because I just thought that was funnier.
But I thought he's seven now.
Yeah, middle name's Ronnie.
Yeah, he's Ronnie.
But I thought, seven, you can't go and messing with their minds, can you,
when they're seven?
And suddenly calling them Stephen.
No, he's definitely...
Plus, they're not going to run back to you
if you start calling them Janet or something.
So I thought, I'll stick with Bobby, you know,
otherwise known as Bob, Robert.
I saw a picture on Twitter
and I knew you were considering it
because you tell me a picture of...
You were talking about poodles.
Yeah.
And poodles, we should say, are such great dogs, aren't they?
They're very intelligent.
Yeah.
Especially if we want to teach a dog tricks.
It's not because they used to use them in the circus.
type hurdles because they're so easy to train.
Yes, you're right, yeah.
And he often walks on his hind legs.
He doesn't, you see he's a bit biting there, I think.
Ray's lovely.
Ray's just, he's all look, isn't he?
Well, that's my problem is that he, I don't want...
He's sort of like a supermodel, he just, he's just fallen,
he just relies totally on his looks, doesn't he?
I don't want him to not develop his brain.
I think it's too late for that.
He just said, yeah, I never read a book,
because I was also...
Yeah, because look at me.
I was still going to read.
What's it like me so odd, you?
I can't believe you.
I have to live like that.
I'm so happy for you.
I think this is the best news,
and I am going to take some responsibility for this.
You take some, because you are partly responsible.
And I think people should check out the Blue Cross,
which I'll put all the details up because...
Yes, sign up to their websites and look at their new dogs
if you're after a rescue dog.
Because honestly, you're not with...
And if they make them...
make the process it sounds like they were great to yeah yeah they really understood how
you know nervous dogs can be and they're really keen to put you with the right dog yeah well i can
honestly i cannot think of a better match than bobby yeah do you pick bobby up ever diana
