Starting point is 00:00:00 This week's episode is something a little different thanks to Baker's dog food. Now, if you're anything like me, feeding your dog is more than just a routine. It's a moment to stop and really bond with your dog. I just love seeing Raymond's little eyes light up and his tail wagging with excitement whenever he sees that it's meal time. And with bakers, it's easy to feel good about what you're giving them. Their tasty main meal range contains the everyday nutrients to keep. Keep dogs happy, healthy and ready for their next adventure.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Best of all, Baker's core range is made with superfoods, including natural spirulina algae and beet pulp, which helps support digestion. It's 100% complete and balanced. And most importantly, dogs absolutely love it. Now, in this episode, I'll be taking a stroll with Raymond, but also a couple of special guests. So we're thrilled to welcome the wonderful Grace Count. and her adorable dog Eddie. We've come together today with our dogs to have a chat about our furry companions, the joy of feeding them, and those little daily moments that make it all so worth it. Really hope you enjoy our walk. Here's Grace and Eddie and Raymond. Keep up with Eddie!
Starting point is 00:01:23 How old is right now? I thought you're going to say, how old are you? No. How dare you? How old is he? is he? Because he looks like a baby still. He is eight. Wow. He's nine this year. Wow. So Grace, I'm so thrilled that Ray and Eddie are finally getting to meet and I'm also thrilled that I'm getting to see you today. I know because the last one we saw each other I don't think I had a dog.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Well you didn't. I don't know I did. I want to know all about this and we should say a big thanks to baker's dog food because they have brought us together today. I love this jacket. Oh, do you like it? Yeah. Well, I love walking with you, Grace Campbell. Oh, I know. It's such a treat. And we've got history, we should say.
Starting point is 00:02:07 We've got a whole lot of history. We do. And you've always been so kind to me. Well, we should go back and tell the listeners how we first met, because we met through my goddaughter. Honey. Lovely Honey Ross. Honey, the amazing Honey Ross.
Starting point is 00:02:21 Who's also a brilliant podcaster and a screenwriter. And I don't know if this is the first time I met you, but I do have a memory of going around to Honey's house. and you were there and I just thought, oh, I could spend hours. I remember it very well. It was summer. Yeah. Yeah, but you've always been just so fun to be around.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Even since today, it's like we just start gossiping as soon as we're together. But I do remember something I felt a bit bad about because I remember you saying to me at one point during that chat we had all those years ago, oh, I always find it really gross when women say, they fancy my dad, Alastair Campbell. And I said, because I was so keen to reassure you
Starting point is 00:03:05 I wasn't one of those, and I went, oh my God, I don't fancy your dad. I thought that was tipping into rudeness. No, but that's better than
Starting point is 00:03:13 me going to a party and a really gorgeous woman coming up to me and saying, I fancy your dad. That's so weird and inappropriate and I don't want to know
Starting point is 00:03:23 and also how. He's so old. He's almost 70. I hope you're listening, Alison. Talking of your dad, I should say we've actually, I've had your dad on my podcast before. Yeah, and he brought Sky, didn't he? And Sky?
Starting point is 00:03:37 And Sky? Who is from the same breed, Eddie is from the same breeders guy. Ah, okay. And they're both Cavalier, King Charles. So talk me through your family history with dogs because... Such a good question. Okay, so when I was younger, I was obsessive dogs. 101 Darmatians was my, like, complete identity.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Yeah. It was like the first film I became really obsessed with. Everything I wore had to be Dalmatian themed. Then my dad was very busy when I was a child. Wasn't there a lot. I blame Tony Blair. I blame Tony Blair for absolutely everything. And then, so I really wanted a dog from the age of about five, six.
Starting point is 00:04:19 And my parents just felt they'd, my dad had grown up with dogs. My mum had grown up with cats. But then she developed a cat allergy, which she gave to me. but so my mum had never had a dog so she just was really not sure and I ran this like unbelievable PR campaign the slogan was dog is God backwards and I just wrote post-it notes saying that everywhere
Starting point is 00:04:42 and put it in the fridge in the like everyone's underwear drawers everywhere you'd look that it had that and then my parents just felt that they had to reward me for campaigning So the first dog I got was a kind of spitting image of Eddie. She was a Ruby King Charles Spaniel called Molly. And then we brought her home and everyone just was completely in love with her.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And then she lived till like 14. Oh. Yeah. And then I got Eddie two and a half years ago. And what is it about Cavaliers that you love so much? Like do they have any specific character traits, do you think? Of the ones I know, They're very, very loving.
Starting point is 00:05:29 All dogs are loving, really. But she can be very docile. And if she had her way, she'd just sit on my lap all day. Eddie's a proper coverlete. My parents' dog isn't like... Eddie will sit on my lap whenever I'm sat anywhere. She has to be on my lap. Because that's what they are.
Starting point is 00:05:48 They're lap dogs. They're bred to sit under the royal family's skirts to keep them warm. or on their laps to heat them up? Ray has a thing I've noticed, apparently this is a Shih Tzu thing, and it's called Stubborn Shih Tzu Syndrome. What is that?
Starting point is 00:06:05 Well, how it manifests itself is he'll just, for example, just sit down on a walk and just absolutely refuse to move. Yeah, I respect that, though, because he doesn't, there's something about Eddie sometimes, I think, you're just such a simp, like, you'll just do what,
Starting point is 00:06:21 like, she'll just follow me into a fire. if I was walking into one. Yeah. I like that. He doesn't have to please you. Do you know what I mean? Oh, he doesn't have to please me. I would say Ray has very firm boundaries.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Exactly. He knows what he wants. Yeah. No, he's so cute. He looks like he's floating. And I always say that there are dog people and doggy people. So dog people, they sort of say, he'll be all right on the kitchen floor.
Starting point is 00:06:52 And they say, come boy. Do you know what I mean? Whereas doggy people, and I'm kind of suspecting which one you might be, they're a bit, oh, here's a pink fluffy pillow for my baby. So I'm definitely the latter. And Eddie is also the same. I'm just going to pick him up, Grace, because he's little legs. Oh.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Come on, Ray, Ray, Ray. No, he's so cute. Here you go. I'll pick you up, darling. I think we've worked out with. which one I am, I'll pick you up, darling. She basically doesn't drink out of public water bowls, you know, like the water bowls that dogs, restaurants.
Starting point is 00:07:31 What is that? Grace. She actually doesn't drink out of dog bowls, she only drinks out of glasses. She'll only drink water out of human glass. Which is my mum's biggest bane of my mum's life, because my mum will look after Eddie when I go away. My mum will be like, I'll be watching TV after dinner, I'll put a glass of fizzy water on the floor by the sofa and then Eddie comes over and she thinks any glass on the floor is for her. So she's a bit of a snob Eddie and she doesn't like lying on the floor
Starting point is 00:08:00 doesn't really like dog beds. So Eddie's very selective in her tastes. Yes, she's, I've definitely indulged her far too much. Look at that big old Labrador you see that's what normal dogs are like, Grace. Who's his owner? Oh there. That's definitely his owner. Wow. Hello, Lab. I love it when their tongues hang out sideways. So, do you think having a dog has changed you at all, Grace?
Starting point is 00:08:31 It's changed my life. Yeah. She's made me much happier. Really? Is that an answer? Yeah, I love that answer. I don't know if she's changed me as a person because I don't really think you can, like, compare it. You know when people talk about having children, that sort of changes them?
Starting point is 00:08:46 I don't know if it's necessarily done that. She makes me very happy. going away and coming home to her or going out and coming back or just having her with me makes my life better. And talking of going away because you're obviously a hugely successful comedian. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:09:02 How does that work with Eddie? Do you just have to get very familiar with dog-friendly hotels? Do you have an arrangement with Alastair and Fiona, your parents? Yeah, when my parents are here in the UK, my mum's the best because Eddie knows her really well.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I trust my mum with Eddie. I do get a bit worried with leaving. I don't know if I would leave Eddie. You know that when people like borrow your dog? I don't think I would ever do that. Really? I just get worried like because what if something happened and then I'd hate that person forever?
Starting point is 00:09:35 Do you know what I mean? What if someone kidnapped the dog and held her for ransom? I do think about that with race. Yes. I still wonder when my most prized possession in the world. When people tie up their dog, Oh my god, I would never do that.
Starting point is 00:09:51 It's like 1970s outside the supermarket. I think you wouldn't tie your toddler up outside the supermarket. So just stay there, I'm just going in for some chicken, I'll be back soon. I always think, I mean, I would never do that because in my mind someone's going to kidnap her. Yeah. So when I tour, my mum will have her, or I'll take her and my tour manager will have her while I'm on stage. But I took her to a show on Friday and I got there. and I should have taken someone with me because I was emceeing this big show at this festival.
Starting point is 00:10:24 So it was going on and off the stage. She was quite stressed. I didn't know who's going to hold her. So I went over to the bar and I met this really nice girl who was working behind the bar, but they were overstaffed. And I said, is there any chance you could come and be Eddie's sort of minder for the evening? Eddie's minder? And this girl came and honestly, it was just the best. It was the bet. It was amazing.
Starting point is 00:10:43 And then suddenly all these male acts at this festival who were being not very nice to me, suddenly I had this new sort of personal assistant that I picked up behind the bar. I do find people are a lot nicer to me when I'm out with Ray. Yeah. Or more friendly I suppose because I think what dogs provide is a kind of social and conversational ramp. Yeah. Because it would be very weird if you just walked up to someone in the middle of the park like we are here today and say, hello, what's your name? But do you ever find, because sometimes when Eddie sort of makes friends with a dog,
Starting point is 00:11:16 I really don't want to have a conversation with a dog, Like, it's great that my dog's playing with your dog, but we don't need to talk. Do you know what I mean? Then I have to sort of be like, oh, how old? It's like, I really just don't care. I haven't got enough space in my brain to know, like, anything about your dog's origin story. The problem is gross. I think I'm that woman that you avoid.
Starting point is 00:11:37 You know, when you're on the dog walk and some woman comes up and goes, hello, how old's yours? I'm her. No, because if you stop me, I'd love it. Your energy is contagious. It's like these sort of very dull, you know, background characters that I don't want to talk to. I'm just saying, I think I might be your worst night. No, if you, and also it's like, do you know how many sort of famous people I've managed to talk to on Hampton, walking the dog on Hampsteadie? Really?
Starting point is 00:12:06 Yeah. So many. Made so many really cool friends. Who have you there? Are you allowed to say? I won't name drop on the podcast. I'll tell you afterwards. I will name drop because one of your.
Starting point is 00:12:17 Dad's colleagues, as it were, in the old, Ed Miller Band. Oh yeah. He... Big fan of the Ponds. Well, he came on this podcast and he said that Ray looked like a toupee. I couldn't believe it. Wow, that is really... But can I say, I think he means, you know, like in a film,
Starting point is 00:12:40 when a toupee flies off, that Ray's tail, when it wags, could look a bit like a toupee fly. off. He's made much better about that. No, but you know, like in a film, it was like a big comedy scene, like the man who's trying to pretend he's not bored and then his toupee goes flying through the wedding. Oh, God. So I want to dig into Eddie's character traits a bit more.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Ray's, as I said to you, he has this quirk of just, I don't know if it's a quirk or just him being a bit annoying, but he does this thing of literally just stopping. And sometimes you'll lie on the floor like sort of superman, which means I'm done. It's like a lazy pop star saying, I want you to pick me up now. Yeah, I'm retiring. What are some of Eddie's character trades? So Eddie had a season very young.
Starting point is 00:13:33 So she came on heat. And that informed some of her. So we compare her to my mum's dog who never had a season. And that meant that she likes the hump, which is one of her. main floors. Yes. So we've had to hide anything that she can possibly do that to.
Starting point is 00:13:52 And it also made her quite possessive. So she was never really like, well I guess it's also an age thing, but she definitely feels she has to protect me. I know, but it's not... Look at her. She's like a stalker. She's so sweet. I always say having a dog is like, there's a scene
Starting point is 00:14:10 in mean girls where Lindsay Lohan's suddenly like the Queen Bee and she's walking out of the school and the girls are like following her. They're like, where are we going? what are we doing? And then she like turns around and she's like, I can't answer all these questions. That's what having a dog's like. They're just constantly looking at you for like guidance
Starting point is 00:14:23 of what we're supposed to be doing next. I love it. That makes me feel very, I feel like a Barack Obama. I've got a lot on today. Ray's got a lot of questions for me. What's Eddie's sort of cheekiest or naughtiest having? She, oh, she eats snails.
Starting point is 00:14:42 No, this is bad. And she like holds them, captive in her mouth so she'll pick one up on a walk we get home and I haven't realised she's got a snail in her mouth Eddie's going towards the water is this a good thing yeah she won't go in your dad's dog Skyway yeah Eddie doesn't do that Ray likes to look at the water like that's what Eddie does retiree in Bournemouth or something Ray when I'm out walking him if he's off the lead, which is why I sometimes carry him, because I worry about this happening all the time,
Starting point is 00:15:20 he'll find a new better family to join. Right, or a family who has sat down, presumably. Well, he'll just go, but ideally if they're having a picnic. Yeah. He won't just go and visit them and sniff around. He'll literally just go and sit there for an hour and won't leave. And it gets really embarrassing. Yeah, but I think that's because he's sort of like, he's a very chilled guy.
Starting point is 00:15:41 But I also worry that he's kind of looking for a better option all the time. No, I think that he's probably just tired of walking and you've made it your whole brand and he's like, can we not do a podcast about like sitting? Sitting with the dog. Can we not have a picnic podcast? So tell me your favourite thing about your dog. I love being loved.
Starting point is 00:16:07 I'm an anxiously attached person. So I love a dog who just loves me. I got back from Dublin yesterday and that my friend was looking after Eddie. and I walked in the flat and she was so excited. She was like bouncing on the walls. I just love that feeling. I've never had that for a human.
Starting point is 00:16:22 That's the thing about dogs. They do make you feel endlessly loved. And you talk about being anxiously attached, which I think I am as well. I think dog people often are because that's why they like having dogs. Why do you think you're anxiously attached as that of interest?
Starting point is 00:16:35 Probably because I didn't get enough attention to child. Yeah. Yeah. Tony Blair. He really moved on. Yeah. No, I will never forgive. But yeah, I think probably, yeah, I don't think I got completely secure attachments, which, you know, my parents know, and they've definitely tried to salvage since.
Starting point is 00:17:02 And they've done that quite successfully as well. I was going to say, I get the sense you've had very open discussions with your parents about, you know, things you're experienced in your childhood and how it impacted you, your dad's job. I think that's really important. Because if you just deal with these, you know, as long as you're open about these things, you can sort of move on from stuff like that and work through it, aren't you? Yeah, I think my sort of disposition has always been to talk about stuff. You know, there's such a stereotype, but there, there is truth in the sort of British repressed,
Starting point is 00:17:37 like, sort of never really acknowledging things that have happened or how they've met. And I've just always not been that way. No, I think that's really healthy way to be. I've just spotted a bench over there. And do you know what I think, Grace? I think it might be time to give Raymond and Eddie some baker's meaty meals. Okay, well, Eddie's going to love that. These are actually, they're meals, but you can use them as little snacks on the go.
Starting point is 00:18:09 And Ray loves a little snack on the go. And they're easy to break up. Well, this is why I've got to be honest, Baker's meeting meals. You've had me at Hello. Because Ray's teeth, how can I put this? They've seen better days. He's knocking on a bit. And I'm always on the hunt for a nice, squashy, kind of easily digestible.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Which these really are. They're really easy to break up. How's Eddie getting on with them? I mean, she loves them. Look at her. Also, can I say Eddie's being so well-behaved because usually Eddie would be getting sort of jealous that she's being fed at the same time as another dog.
Starting point is 00:18:45 But I think she really respects Ray, and he's older and wiser. All right, you keep banging on about this age thing. Maybe it's such a bit, Grace. That's a way shaming me and my dog. No, I think she respects him. She doesn't respect quite a lot of dogs. Seriously, she really respects him.
Starting point is 00:19:04 Have you noticed the way Ray's gobbling those meaty meals down, do you think, And be honest, I know you will be, it's part of your brand. Do you think Ray's a tad on the greedy side? Be honest, be honest. Ray is, yeah. So is Eddie, but Eddie's quite like, Eddie's hungry girl, but Eddie was raised with my parents' dog's guy
Starting point is 00:19:27 who is the greediest dog you've ever met in your entire life. So Eddie's got the same thing that I've got, which is like being the youngest child, everyone always eating your food vibe. What I like about Ray's attitude to food is that he's abandoned any semblance of shame. No, yeah. You know how the rest of us, if we're in a restaurant, we'll think, oh, well, I know there's a bread bowl, but I better hold back. I've barely taken my coat off. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Not Ray. Straight in there. So, right, let's discuss meal times. Ray, he go. Because I've got to be honest, Grace. I don't know if this is weird or just me, but meal times with Ray, they're just one of my favourite times. I get oddly excited. And I think that's because I sense his excitement and I feel very powerful, giving him that food.
Starting point is 00:20:10 I do think that with dogs. It's sort of like, I think Eddie's so superior and then suddenly she's like begging me for food and I realise she's just a dog. I think she's a god and then suddenly I realise oh, without me, she'd be nothing. So what we're saying is, this is awful. We like to get a sense of superiority
Starting point is 00:20:34 because we're bringing home the food for them. Ray, as soon as I open the cupboard door, literally I just put my hand on it. And it's like he teleports himself in front of me. Oh my, he's so quick. No, he really loves it. Look at it. Do you know in I'm a celebrity when someone wins all the meals for their campmates and they come back and they say, how many did you get?
Starting point is 00:21:01 And they say, 10. And everyone whoops and cheers and screams. that's how I feel when I get as well. And actually, I love that feeling. And also, I can tell that if they could speak, they'd be saying, I love you so much, thank you. They would. Look at them.
Starting point is 00:21:19 They're saying, I love you so much. Thank you for everything. And I like the little noises, Ray, mate. No, yeah. Do you like, when he's gobbling up his people, when he's doing it now, actually, I can hear him grunting. That's why Eddie does.
Starting point is 00:21:33 And I feel if he were talking, he'd be saying, this is the best moment of my life. That's what I mean. They're so happy. Yeah. And they're so grateful. Look at him. Do you know what, Grace? If I do say so myself,
Starting point is 00:21:46 I've become a bit better educated, just about nutrition with Ray and just making sure he's eating nutritious food, which is tasty. And we should say, because we're feeding them bakers today, I was really interested to discover that their core range
Starting point is 00:22:01 are made with spirulina and beet pulp superfoods. which are known for their beneficial impact on intestinal health and support healthy digestion. Are you quite hot on that sort of stuff as well? Just taking the nutritional side of things seriously. No, but this is a moment that I'm starting to acknowledge it and think about it. Are you?
Starting point is 00:22:23 This is the thing. Now, as you know, I'm about to move further away from my mum. My mum, since I got Eddie, has definitely co-parented the dog with me. So she's made sure that Eddie's like always being fed good stuff. But now I'm moving away from her. I need to take that on myself. And I think it's great. So does this have spirulina in it?
Starting point is 00:22:43 And beet pulp. And beet pulp. Yes. Eddie. Here you go. And you, Ray. And you. No, I actually do, I do want to learn more genuinely about that.
Starting point is 00:22:54 And make sure that Eddie's not just getting sort of the basic amount of nutrition. Yeah, because we love our doggy so much, don't we? So whilst our dogs are snacking, I want to talk to you about parties because you are a sort of, I want to call you the party ambassador now. You do a brilliant podcast late to the party, all about parties, and it's really brilliant, Grace. I love it. And one of my all-time favourite episodes is the one you did with your dad and Rory Stewart.
Starting point is 00:23:26 That was art, work of art. If you do say so. I know it was, because there was this bit where Rory Stewart just, out of nowhere, apropos nothing, just went, I love dancing. My dad was in the middle of ascendant. She went, I love dancing. And it was one of, I was trying so hard not to laugh.
Starting point is 00:23:46 This is the first time I'd met him. He's had this huge success with my dad, and I'd never met him. Because see, my dad's trying to keep his lovers away from the family, you know? The romance. Private life, private. The infamous bromance.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Yeah. I also loved it. I learned something from Rory. Stuart while listening to your podcast because he said because he's very very well-mannered. In fact, he's not unlike Ray, I think, Rory Stewart. He said that when he's sort of slightly cornered by someone at a party and wants to get away quickly, he has a trick where he says, anyway, I really must stop monopolising you. It's such a good phrase.
Starting point is 00:24:24 Yeah. Because it's such a great way to get out of the conversation without insulting someone. But that's also sootonian. Do you know what I mean? It's like they are. consulting you, but they're doing it in a really polite way. I think Ray would do that if he was at a party. Eddie would never stop monopolising anyone.
Starting point is 00:24:42 And what is your attitude to taking Eddie to parties? Do you bring her with you? I do. I take her to, you know, within reason. I took her to a birthday party that Honey was at, at Scarlett's birthday party and she was really well behaved. And if there's an outside space, you know, if it's like a, if it's not a rave, I will take her. her if I haven't got anyone to look after her.
Starting point is 00:25:04 I once took Ray to a book launch and it was because I was sort of running quite late and I thought I haven't got time to take him home and I had a little bag which his head pokes out of and I put him in this bag. He was very comfortable
Starting point is 00:25:20 in it and I walked in. Sorry, that's Eddie. Eddie's grunting. Eddie! Can you hear that? What's that? She proper grunts? Listen. Did you like your food? I once snucked Ray into someone's book launch and he was in his little bag and he had his head just slightly poking out
Starting point is 00:25:38 but you had to search really hard to see it because he's so small. It was very comfortable and I thought I'll just pop in for 10 minutes and everything was fine and then I heard these quite posh literary women saying oh my god look at that woman she's got a dog in her back and I was quite affronted and I remember saying to one of them
Starting point is 00:25:56 I said look it said plus one I didn't say anything about species because I think fair enough. Unless you say no dogs. But I've got such a, don't ask, I just don't ask if I can take Eddie anywhere. I just take her. I don't check if somewhere dog friendly. I just take her.
Starting point is 00:26:15 And then I say, sorry, she's my therapy dog. She has to come in. I've tried that. I've got anxiety. Got anxiety being at this party. I have to have her. I once took Ray and I was doing something at the Royal Geographical Society.
Starting point is 00:26:28 And then I wasn't sure whether dogs were allowed. And then there was a sign saying, only emotional support dogs, welcome or something. And I thought, maybe if I just walk out sort of crying or looking up there, if they stop me, that'll do it. So what I want to know is, what would Eddie's dream party look like? Because I think Ray is a fairly traditional old school type. I think he wants pride and prejudice.
Starting point is 00:26:51 He wants candelabra. Ideally, he wants some sort of an orchestra. Right, okay. And he wants someone with a fan saying, Mr Darcy, he is on 300 a year. Eddie, I'm getting the sense, Eddie's not really a sort of, you know, big party. No, Eddie loves when I have the girls round.
Starting point is 00:27:08 That's her dream evening, because she knows we're not going out. Yes. She loves us all being there, and then she can move between their laps. But do you know what? Ray, and this is probably a troubling thing, but I accept it nonetheless.
Starting point is 00:27:22 I think the reason Ray loves party so much is because it's a great hunting ground for new potential owners again. I thought you were going to say for food. No, he's like, goodbye. Rude. No, he does. He works.
Starting point is 00:27:37 No, but that's why Eddie loves parties because she's like going under the tables and picking up food. No, he does like that. Again, I used to do that as a child. I used to go and try and get adopted. Did you? Who did you select?
Starting point is 00:27:50 Oh, like, I was always trying to get other families to adopt me. But sort of as a way to like prank my parents. Like I'd tell people that I was looking. for a family. I was up for adoption. You and Ray have got a lot in common. You really have. And then my mum would come over and they'd be like, I thought you said you don't have parents and I'd be like, no, this is my mum. It's because I loved Annie as a child. And I loved Tracy Beaker, so I really would have fantasised the idea of being an orphan.
Starting point is 00:28:19 I just struggled with some of Annie's clothes, but it's not my colour. I couldn't do it, Grace. Tell me who would Eddie's dream dinner guest be? Eddie, who do you love? I can tell you, Ray's, whilst you mel that over. Well, he's got a few. I think, I'm a little obsessed with Henry VIII, we'll talk. And I think Ray would be both big fans of food. I don't think you can deny that, Grace.
Starting point is 00:28:47 Well, I'm not allowed to say it because I'll get in trouble. I was going to say they're perfectly much. He doesn't get gout, though. both big fans of food both high maintenance and both I want to say good on the commitment front
Starting point is 00:29:05 he put a ring on it that guy whatever you say about him yeah he did and then he didn't do I mean he's good at short term commitment that's kind of like Ray looking for his next wife always on the hunt for the next one Grace so I think Henry the 8th
Starting point is 00:29:21 and also because I think Ray is essentially channeling some sort of hybrid of an Edwardian gentleman and Roy Stewart. Yes, he is. In many ways they're the same thing. Have you had Rory Stewart on the podcast? No, I'd love to.
Starting point is 00:29:33 You should have Rory Shoeh on. Sort it out for me, Campbell. You should, he would be a good guess. Would I get on with him? I think you would get on with him. He's really easy to get on with. He's a very good conversation. He liked Ray.
Starting point is 00:29:45 So I think Ray is a cross between an Edwardian gentleman and Rory Stewart. Roy Stewart. And I think he would get on very well maybe for some of it's maybe sort of not quite a little but um Oscar Wilde I think he'd like mm-hmm because he's sort of playful and mischievous but very urbane and well-dressed yeah and I can see him in a salon David Badell
Starting point is 00:30:11 once called my dog an intellectual he has that vibe okay I've got my answer go on it would be Adina monsoon Eddie's namesake and also Eddie's Eddie's named after Eddie from Ab-Fab absolutely fabulous so Eddie is is an ab fab dog yeah but i would love that i would love me eddie and eddie i'd dinner party just the three of us and ray and ray oh they would love ray i'll tell you what ray would be ray is the one at the party i don't know who eddie is at the party but ray isn't the one in the corner slightly silently judging everyone and when the karaoke mike comes out he's like how embarrassing i'm going then then can't get it off him i will
Starting point is 00:30:54 survive all night that's Ray. Look at the way he just looked up. He's got the sort of Dowager Countess energy. No, he's amazing. If Ray could speak, he would say, what pray is a weekend? Yeah. Hello. And Eddie would be a lovely friend to Ray at the party.
Starting point is 00:31:14 Yeah, if Eddie could speak, she'd sound like Nicole Kippen, I reckon. Really? Yeah. Can you do, can you give us a burst of Nicole? No, of Eddie's voice, of Eddie's voice, if Eddie could speak. Eddie, look at me. Eddie, look at me.
Starting point is 00:31:31 No. Eddie, look at me. Eddie. What's this? Eddie's found something. Bye, Eddie, bye. That's our command word. Oh, that's terrible.
Starting point is 00:31:39 So when you say bye. So buy is like how I get her to come because it means I'm leaving. Are you coming? Oh my God. That's extreme. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's actually mad because I don't think about that
Starting point is 00:31:53 when I'm walking her. I'm just going, Bye. Bye. I might start trying that with humans. Yeah, yeah, bye. Goodbye. Goodbye.
Starting point is 00:32:03 Bye-bye. Well, talking goodbye. We're going to have to love you and leave you soon, aren't we? We love you. I'm not leaving you, Eddie. Don't worry. That was just a false alarm. False alarm.
Starting point is 00:32:13 I have so loved chatting with you, Grace Campbell. So have we. Fairly lovely woman you are. And I have to say, Eddie is just, I don't have the words. Nicole Kidman. She looks like Nicole Kidman. Those are the words. I mean, I think it's a bit of a stretch.
Starting point is 00:32:31 It's time for me to insult you. You have to understand the amount of times I push this on people. I bring her somewhere and I say, don't you think she looks just like Nicole Grimman? And if they don't instantly agree with me, I then get really annoyed. She does a bit, actually. Look at her.
Starting point is 00:32:45 She looks like Nicole. Can I tell you who Ray looks like? Because Ray's got a bit of a bob now. I think Ray looks a bit like Anna Wintel. Oh my God, yes. Yeah. Ray's sort of got a similar demeanour as well. Do you know that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me?
Starting point is 00:33:00 I was sat like four seats over from her at Wimbledon and I was just like absolutely fascinated by her. She's such a vibe. In the Royal Box they all got given those hats to wear and she was the only person that didn't put one on. She was like, I'm Anna Wintour, I'm not wearing a straw hat. Do you know who else wouldn't wear the hat? Who? Ray. That's because he wouldn't, he doesn't follow, whereas Eddie, Simp, Eddie would put it on.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Oh, absolutely. If everyone else was doing it, Eddie would do it. it. Well Grace, I have loved chatting to you today. Likewise.
