So guys, we're having you on because there was a huge article

in Vice that I know our friends worked on for a really long time, my Aunt Thomas. And it was a really interesting article basically about what happens to the housewives after leaving the housewives and generally the whole experience. How did that article come about? How did you all meet and come together? Well the article was really caught me by surprise because you know it's very strange for me to be on this side of the business when I'm used to being behind the scenes and that's really what inspired the show.

You know I was working in scripted working with producer Steven Chazbett and working for great people in LA and I decided to move to New York and you know Steven was sort of my mentor as a manager and producer so I thought that would be the career path I take and I had met Jill Zaren and because I was just starting my business in New York which as a producer or as a manager as a manager and producer but in New York you know I really wanted to meet all the New York buyers because the East Coast is where all the studios and networks are based. So everything has to go through the R2B Greenlit. So that was really my strategy, but as a manager, creating starring vehicles for my clients,

the same way in which Steven did for Jason Statham really was my end goal. But that path was sort of diverted when I met Jill Zarrad. And she was so incredibly amazing. And I knew that she was really hitting the peak of this, what turned into be a pop cultural phenomenon of a reality show. So that was the last segment of the industry that I did not yet understand.

So I thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to learn the reality business from the star of a successful series. And so I said, why not? Let's see what we can do. And my experience working with Jill and really seeing what happens behind the scenes on reality shows is what inspired

me to create altered reality because it is not at all what I expected. So let me just clarify for people listening, because we were talking about this article in Vice. The article is about life after real housewives, but there is a segment of the article where you come up, where it talks about how you are creating a TV show starring former real housewives. where it talks about how you are creating a TV show starring

former real housewives. That's a parody of life after reality TV, right? Well, it's a sad tire. It's a sad tire. So it's not a parody. It's a terrible, but correct. It's not about necessarily life after housewives. It really was inspired by my experiences.

I just happened to work with housewives and saw what happens to them, but it really is what happens to all reality stars in general after they leave their reality series. And, you know, of course, you know, they want to continue to remain in the spotlight. They want to continue their careers. But the problem is they're so heavily branded as that character, if you will, that they portray on their series, that it's difficult for them to continue. So I thought it would be fun to really illustrate

the dichotomy of their on-camera versus their off-camera lives, because I found that there's so much difference between what you see on TV, which is really, you know, it takes, I think, 80 hours of footage to create one hour episode of reality TV. So you're really seeing a tiny fraction of who these people really are. And so I thought it would be great to show the viewers what had, you know, the full scope of these characters and illustrate that. It also shows some of the production elements and things that they aren't aware of. So this is sort of like a like almost like a comedic counter piece to something like

Unreal. I think it's very much much, unreal is a totally different type of show. ours is really satirical because there's so many misconceptions about reality stars. What we do is we play that up with Sad Tire to make it a comedy and to make it enjoyable to watch and fun to watch. And we go really over the top. So there's really nothing like it on TV. And do you follow the on camera and off camera lives of these people? And especially the reason I wanted to cast housewives

is because I really wanted to illustrate that dichotomy by adding a dose of realism to it. Because the truth is they've all experienced this. And so, you know, it's not about housewives. It's just it's about women who were stars of a show that was sort of like a housewife show. And they're suddenly out of work fighting themselves in Los Angeles wanting to really pursue the spotlight.

You were on Dance of the Stars, too, right? Yeah, I mean, I think what really separates me from most of the housewives except Lisa Rinna and, you know, some other girls already had a career. Like a lot of these girls just come in from nothing, like whatever business they do on a daily basis and all of a sudden they get a taste of this spotlight.

So when I came in, dancing with the stars, the top model over 100 covers worldwide, I had a career, I had a name coming into the show. So then you have these women that are so desperate for that spotlight. That, you know, they kept like pushing and pushing and pushing my buttons. And, you know, sometimes you can be the sweetest person in the world, but, you know, somebody is vicious and trying to get at you. Of course, you're going to show aside that you might not be proud of. So I would say,

you know, people that do know me know the real me, but also because if you're around people that wanna hurt you, there is a side that you may not be proud of that comes out. And that was, I think, the- I find it really interesting whenever we talk to housewives because you guys keep up with social media obviously. Yeah, just the thought- The thought-

You have such kind of a almost discute you know even with something as small as what we do We get a lot of really nice people and nice comments and if there's one that's ripping that you'll think about that for a long time It does the way that you're you know the way that you're describing yourself if I hadn't watched all of your show You know if we hadn't covered all of your show I would assume that you're like some raging villain from the way you're talking about yourself on that. So you weren't. No, I know, but it's just like certain that all said or did that maybe I would have not

done it if I was around people that I actually care about, you know, and also, so yes, the people or they edited it, you know, it's also the editing, the way it's edited to maybe something else happened before and they don't show that part, like why somebody reacts the way they did. But the reason, like, you know, I did a housewife so many years ago, so I can't try to stay away from that since I had a career for so many years.

And when Darren approached me for this project, the reason I agreed and to do it is because I think it's a great idea. I love Darren. And, you know, it's a scripted show, you know, and I'm really focused on my acting career now. And it has the best people involved from Michael Hoven and Joyce Durer. You know, he was nominated for seven Oscars. So it's like these are a list people. So it's not just like random people that are attached to the project.

And it's going to be, you know, over the top comedy, which I, comedy, which I'm like really funny in my everyday life. So I was, you know, people are like, why did you do comedy comedy comedy? So I think this is a perfect project for me, like, to showcase what I can do as an actress, but also as a comedian. And, you know, and I have, I think Daryng gave me like the best role ever because I'm such a mega bitch and Uber Diva on the show that it's like total opposite. Like, Dary knows me, you know, I'm sweet as pie. Well, isn't that there's something like sort of ironic about that then because you're saying how, you know, people had this impression of you, perhaps, that you were just like crazy, you know,

when there was just that your buttons hadn't pushed over and over and over again, and eventually this side came out of you and you're saying, oh, that's really not me. And then it's sort of funny that you're're saying, oh, that's really not me. And then it's sort of funny that you're going on the show and then playing a crazy person. Because over the top crazy person, like I don't consider myself crazy because even the things that I did on the show

is like nothing compared to what. You know, we all have buttons that people can push. And if you don't have to tell me. For 80, for 80 hours, you're gonna react. And that's what you that people can push. And if you're- Oh, girl, you don't have to tell me. For 80, for 80 hours, you're going to react. And that's what you see in the show. But that's the whole point of illustrating that dichotomy. And that's really using satire to take it over the top because that's not who Johanna is.

Johanna is literally one of the kindest people I've ever met in my entire life. She offered to- she watched my dog for me when I was traveling. She babysat my dog. I mean, she is just so sweet. She is also very shy and very reserved and just does not have a mean bone in her body. So to see her on the show, which I had seen the show before I had gotten to know her, I met her. Of course, I thought, oh, she's a bitch. Like, oh, I was a little bit, but then when I met her, but when I met her, it all comes out on the podcast.

So incredibly, incredibly nice. And just nothing at all translated on the show, I thought, you know what, that just proves my point even more that it's, you know, people forms misconceptions based on what they see on TV. So we wanted to really highlight that by going over guys have named a bunch of them. Actually, why don't you name them here? Yeah, which housewives are on this show? We've seen in the trades and stuff,

but do you have everybody nailed down? Well, we do. I mean, we have the core cast signed on, of course. And there will be additional housewives making cameos potentially. And, you know, but in terms of the cast that is locked to the series, we have Joanna, of course, we have Gretchen Rossi, we have Alexis Balino, Jill Zaren, Joyce Gerard, and Shere Wittfield.

So is that have there any sort of conflict that that presents itself with Bravo or no? Not what's not at all. You know, Neenie did scripted television and housewives at the same time. This is fictional. This is a scripted project. So it is not in conflict. Perfect.

And how did you decide on those women? Is it basically through your connections of people that you already knew, or did you actually seek certain people out? No. I seek certain people out. And I really wanted to choose the right people that I thought were more different in person that I had met than were portrayed on the show and I

think you know I also wanted to choose characters that would complement each other I wanted to choose people that were actually good actresses that could actually accomplish these roles you know they we read them for the role. So I mean, it definitely, they had to be good actresses. And, you know, I considered other housewives as well, but at the end of the day, at Boyle Down to Who Are the Best Actresses for the roles and who I thought could really pull from personal experiences to go to those places. And that's how he came up with the cast. Obviously Jill was on because the show was inspired by my work with her.

And then Joanna was the second person because I always thought she was incredible and so sweet and really different in person than she was portrayed on the show, so I thought it would be fun. It's almost therapeutic for her to do something like this. And then Joana, I have to give her a little bit of credit because she sort of guided me a little bit on some of the cast. And in fact, she introduced me to Joyce.

And I couldn't have done this without Joana. So I have to really give her a lot of credit for this show happening. And without Joana. So I have to really give her a lot of credit for this show happening. And so Joana, you mentioned that you've been acting recently. So what sort of stuff have you been doing? Yeah, I have a movie out right now. It's called You Can't Have It. It stars our Monde Santé in Rapprent Kowski.

I play one of the lead roles. That's a duo. By the way, that's a duo I never would have expected. I know, right? Rob Rankass can I fund a someday? I don't know, it's a total opposite. Yeah, but it's like a fun comedy, little thrillers, kind of like an American pie,

makes some action and thriller of here. You know, like a fun, young comedy. And then I have another movie I did with Frank Yomuno's it's called another day in paradise it's not out yet but I play like a girl next door nurse like a park nurse so it's it's totally two separate roles I was really hoping you'd say it was like a tribute to Phil Collins but that's okay I guess another day in paradise anyone Phil Collins, anyone? Anyone? Anyone?

First take your stuff. But a lot of people don't realize, let me just get to the action. Yeah, no, go do it. I don't know how you off, but a lot of people don't realize my role, I mean, like around 15 years ago, my first big project was actually,

I played a lead character in a movie with David Caridane, it was called Max Havik, Curse of the Dragon with Carmen Electra. We shot in Guam. And I played the main character. And because of that movie, that's why Playboy approached me to get the celebrity cover spread for Playboy Magazine.

And that's kind of what started my career aside from worldwide recognition in the States. So a lot of people don't realize or they forget that I did come from my first big thing was a movie and that's kind of how career started. So now I'm going back after all these years because I was just so busy traveling for modeling and doing my shows in Poland,

which I do a Polish version of America's Next Stop model. Like a dog rescue show there. So I've been so busy with it, but I really, when the rules came in for the two movies, plus I have another script I'm reading now for another movie. So, and when Deary and Approach Ma'am, like it's perfect timing because this is something that I want to take very seriously is the acting.

You know, I actually remember, one of the first things I remember seeing you in was some random. It was like, I feel like it was like you and Terello is doing something on an ocean. Of course, super. I loved it. I loved that. Although I was like, I was looking at Terello and was like, get this girl out of the way.

That's like, let's just have Terello. I just want to see him short this in the beach. Oh my God. Do you remember that? I just remember that so vividly. You are ridiculous. They definitely, yeah, they definitely promoted the show with my, with me and Tio. That's for sure because we had a little miscommunication on this show.

That's how to fight. Yes, we had a fight. Of course, they used that to promote the show. I was so jealous of you. I was so jealous of you. You just have a, I mean, he does have an amazing body. Like one of the best bodies, I think. I have the first, yeah. I want want I mean he does have an amazing body like one of the best bodies I think I'm I want to have short list on running Canyon. I was like what the hell?

The guy has like no body fat. It's like how the hell do you do it? I know you should work him into this into this show We can play rivals on the show. I'm sure he would love it. Yeah, exactly And you can bring a Robgron Kowski. There could a whole strange like the ball connection. Does Robgron Kowski actually watch Bravo? Do you know because I know he appeared on top chef. Oh he did I don't I never watch your shows. No. I know I didn't ask we didn't get that far. Girl you need to get your Google alert set. So Darren I know you've got to have some really good behind the scenes stories. What are the craziest, what's like your top craziest housewives manager story?

Well, you know, working with Jill, I saw a lot. And I think that there were several. One was the big Jill and Bethany fight. I happened to be hiding from the cameras when that whole thing was taking place and when Bethany called Jill. And on reality television, when you receive a phone call, you have to put it on speaker phone.

The audience can hear what the other side is saying, correct? So Jill put it on speaker phone, of course. And Bethany asked, is anyone around? Why'd you put me on speaker phone? Why'd you put me on speaker phone? of course, and Bethany asked, is anyone around? Why'd you put me on speakerphone? Why'd you put me on speakerphone? And I'm thinking to myself, why the hell is she asking Jill, why'd you put me on speakerphone? You know why she fucking put you on speakerphone because it's a reality show, and the audience has to hear what you're saying, right? Because, of course, Jill didn't know that question.

Wait, just real quick, Darren, you're using your iPhone microphones to just make sure it doesn't hit your shirt or anything because it makes like a Weird thumping sound Oh Yeah, that's right. Yeah, just kind of hold it away from your show. I forgot to tell you earlier. Okay, please continue So let's start over. Can we just Yeah, you just stop from the beginning. No, I'm just kidding. Yeah, just go from there. Just go from there Yeah, it's fine. I just go so so anyway, so she's on speaker phone and Bethany's calling her out for that. Of course, Jill didn't know that Bethany had for camera surrounding her in a full camera crew.

And, you know, because typically you put every call and speaker phone. So I'm hiding in the corner and Bethany asked Jill if anyone's there and Jill. Luanne was sitting right next to her, but Jill decided to call me out. So then the camera pans over to me where I was hiding and I was, you know, mortified. But then the interesting thing about that is then Bethany created a storyline out of this and really called, it made Jill look like she was a bitch for putting her on speaker phone. When it became a huge conflict, like, you know, you're an untrustworthy person because you put my calls on speaker phone and let other people over here our conversations.

And it's so funny because it was so such bullshit because, you know, she knows very well that you have to put the call on speaker phone in order for the audience to hear what the other person person saying. And that Jill didn't know that there was a camera crew surrounding her. So that I thought was kind of funny and dramatic and interesting behind the scenes moment that the audience never understood. And Jill got a lot of flack for that and the press I remember, you know, they were calling her a snake and things like this for just, you know, for putting her on speakerphone.

But again, when the audience doesn't understand why certain things are done, you know, it's just the same as when they think someone's having an intimate conversation on the reality show and they forget to realize that there's four cameras surrounding them with lighting and booms and, you know, 10 other people in the other room. But when Bethany said, when Bethany said, is anybody else there? And she called you out?

Did she tell her Lou Ann was there? She didn't write. She did not. You see, uh, you see tricky. So that is being tricky. Yeah, you see, that is being tricky. Um, but, you know, that's kind of the name of the game. Did Bethany know that you guys were shooting? Did they know that Jill was shooting on her side? Well, of course, because obviously, I mean, do you think that they just Joe was shooting and she got a random phone call from that. Well, you never know, you know, like if she's saying, are you, you know, on speaker phone, I'm saying, like, was that her way of saying, like, are you shooting or whatever? No, because she had a camera cruise surrounding her. Oh, my

God. Remember it. If you remember the scene, it cut between Bethany on the street in New York talking to Jill, and then it cut back to Jill's apartment. Yeah. So, you know, whether or not Jill said, uh, Luan was there. The fact was Bethany knew that there were 12 other people in the room because there were cameras surrounding her. Yeah.

And there were also other people surrounding Bethany that the audience didn't see, such as Kamakruz and Boom operators and producers. So to ask Jill the question, is there anyone around you? And saying no, or just saying me without saying Luan, she couldn't say the producers were surrounding her. So the question from Bethany was a sneaky question.

Yeah, right. Are you gonna like approach this or like reinterpret this whole moment on your show? I don't know. I don't know. I think that we're going to and by the way, and how much do you think you will take like law and order style from stuff that happens in real housewives? You know, in general, it's not about real housewives. I think it's just about reality TV in general. I think there's a lot of production elements that the audiences are not exposed to. So I think that that's where it will be interesting to kind of show that there are 10 people in the room and multiple cameras and there aren't random phone calls that are made

to cast members, everything is produced. It's a produced and edited show. So they're not just walking into a restaurant. The restaurant was cleared and by production, weeks and advance, and they already have the lighting set up. They already have the cameras in place. You have to get Mike before you even film the scene. So, you know, the cast, it's not like they're greeting each other for the first time.

You know, they've already seen each other while they were being Mike. Are you going to have other cast members from different reality shows outside of the Housewives universe? Because since you said it's not just about Housewives, but that seems like the main cast of Housewives. Well we have Aster. I mean we have other actors that will be on the show, very well-known actors in addition to the core cast. But you know, this story is about a group of women who were on successful series that

left to, you know, wanted to pursue their career. So that's why it's, you know, really sticking with the girls. I'm not throwing in other reality stars because I don't want this to be like a parody. In any way, I don't want it to be, you know, it's a very quality project that... You don't want it to be like that,

that E-Show from 10 years ago. But what was the name of that reality? Oh, you know, with a all like the former survivor members got that survivor and amazing race stars got that cut together and made a heart. Yeah, this is not reality all stars at all. So, you know, so we'll stick with the core the core cast you will Darren, can I play you? the core of the core cast you will Darren can I play you. Absolutely, you could absolutely. Yeah, I want to play you. I would love for you to play. I can really do a good hide behind the curtain.

Is rugby is remain going to be involved Joanna? I don't know. We didn't talk. I don't know. I don't think that's one thing that Darren has to decide if we're actually gonna I don't think so. I think I would prefer since it's an acting role for me. I would prefer to have an actor as if I you know as a husband. Well you can take Armandesante. Look there you go. You're already connected. There you go. Playing Romaine as Armandesante. For me it's a serious project and if I take Roman it's gonna be like you know it's it doesn't make any sense I imagine that I imagine that Roman's had it he had what I would imagine that he's probably had enough I mean that I don't

know you tell me but I mean that must have been a frustrating experience oh yeah he quit a few times for sure he quit during the filming a thousand percent yeah sure it's got to be so frustrating for the partners on the show. You know, and it's like for me, it's actually kind of hard for me to talk about it because it's been so many years and I focus on so many other things in my life.

So it's like going back, that is really focused on the acting and you know, because the housewife's thing is just a chapter in my life and I've done so much more before and after. So I don't want to be like labeled that, you know, that's not the thing is just a chapter of my life and you know, I've done so much more before and after. So I don't want to be like labeled that, you know, that the only thing I've done. You guys don't know about the housewives husbands, they're not really their husbands in real life. Those are cast actors.

Oh, make so much more sense. Well, actually a lot of them kind of are. And I'm going to make sure that somebody's super hot. There you are. Thank you. I think you deserve that. since Michael and Joyce and I really were looking from it behind the scenes. It was interesting to illustrate that dichotomy by bringing on some really good writers that are Incredible authors. I mean they've written numerous books and in fact Maya taught writing at NYU So the writing team behind this I'm so grateful to have on board And I just wanted to give them a shout out and and because like we couldn't have done this without them And then I think that you guys will all be surprised when you tune in and see the show because I don't think it'll be what anyone is expecting at all. It's

it's going to be something. Well, we like Maya. She came to our our 300th episode, our party that we had last year. And she has marvelous bangs. And really what more could you ask for in anyone? Yeah, both of those guys are great. And they work their asses off. My God, they work harder than anybody I know. They really did. That was a long article too. That was like a big one. That was not some, you know, time magazine shit. That was a full on New York Times magazine length article that they wrote about about former real housewives. It's a really good material. Mitchell Sunderland wrote that article. Right. And he is an incredible talent. Yeah, good job with that. And Maya was quoted in that article.
