Celebrity feuds are high stakes.
You never know if you're just gonna end up
on page six or two, or in court.
One dream's new podcast, Disantel,
is hosted by comedian Sidney Battle and Matt Bellasai,
where they wait into the glorious mess of celebrity beef
from sub-tweets to distracts to physical altercations.
Each episode of Disantel will take you through
the build up to the feud, why it happened,
and the repercussions.
What is our obsession with these feud, say about us?
The first season is packed with some pretty messy pop culture drama, but none has drawn
out and personal as Brittany and Jamie Lee Spears.
When Brittany's fans formed the Free Brittany movement, dedicated to freeing her from the
infamous conservatorship, Jamie Lynn's lack of public support angered fans.
Jamie Lynn claimed that she was going out of her way to help her sister, but it turns
out she was using Britney's conservatorship to gain more control over her own fortune.
This intel covers everything, from their still ongoing social media battle and spoiler
alert, their may or may not be an ife involved.
It's a story of two young women who had their choices taken away from them by their controlling
parents, but took their anger out on each other.
And it's about a movement to save a superstar, which set its sights upon anyone who failed
to fight for Britney.
I'm about to play a clip from this Antel, and while you're listening, follow this Antel,
wherever you get your head.
Name three iconic Britney performances.
I would say, okay, the iconic snake performance,
VMAs with the snake, that was a big one.
The one where she kissed Madonna,
also at the VMAs, if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not gonna question you. I know you know more than me.
I don't know.
All of her Instagram dances, I think those should count collectively as an iconic Brittany
performance.
I would count those.
That was very impressive.
I mean, considering that my memory is now mostly composed of whatever TikToks I saw
in the last 24 hours.
Yeah, my brain is a sieve, but I must know.
Do the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards mean anything to you?
Honestly, 2017 sounds like way too recent of a year
for there to be a televised Radio Disney Award show.
It is shocking, but let me set the scene for you.
It is shocking, but let me set the scene for you. Britney's there and she's in a tight,
black cutout dress.
She's sitting in the audience with her two sons
and her mom, and it might be hard to believe,
but at this point, she's been in her conservatorship
for nearly a decade.
And it will be another four years
before she regains any control of her life.
So because of that, even though she'd like to be performing, she's not.
Instead, she's watching this new crop of pop stars sing renditions of her songs.
Kelsey Ballerini, belting out a country version of Oops I Did It Again.
Okay.
Haley Steinfeld, wearing a ringleader outfit, doing a cover it again. OK. Hailey Steinfeld wearing a ringleader outfit
doing a cover of circus.
Interesting.
And then lastly, Sophia Carson with her hair and pig tails
singing Baby One More Time.
Yeah, I'm going to be honest.
I don't even know who Sophia Carson is.
Who are these people?
During the whole thing, Britney's in the audience sort of like bobbing her head and clapping
along, but she doesn't look thrilled.
Here's a picture.
Yeah, she looks like she's trying to get a waiter's attention to tell him that her order
is wrong.
And not just that it's wrong, it's like there's a giant shard of glass sticking out of the
food. She just looks unsettled. Like yeah that it's wrong, it's like there's a giant shard of glass sticking out of the food. She just looks unsettled.
Like, yeah, something's wrong.
Disturbed.
And rounding out this personal horror show of a performance is a surprise guest.
It's Jamie Lynn Spears, Brittany's younger sister, and she finishes singing Till the World Ends,
and then presents her big sister with the first ever
Icon Award.
The radio Disney Award.
She is my friend, my hero, my favorite pop star
of all time in everyone else's.
And the best sister our girl could ever have.
I'm so excited to present her with this well-deserved recognition.
But when Brinket gets to the stage,
she only gives her sister this kind of like half-hearted
side hug.
The same time you give a friend of a friend of a friend, you're meeting at a gathering
and you're like, I'm not a hugger, but okay, I guess.
That's the energy she's bringing to this hug.
And she's hissed at Jamie Lynn for doing that performance.
Matt, will you read the tweet she sends out about it later?
She says,
I don't like that my sister showed up in an award show
and performed my songs to remixes.
My so-called support system hurt me deeply.
This conservatorship killed my dreams.
So like every sentence has four exclamation missions after it,
she really does love punctuation.
That's relatable to me.
Britney's tired of her family capitalizing on her success, especially her little sister.
But pretty soon, she's gonna let the whole world know exactly what she thinks about Jamie Lynn.
From Wondery, I'm Sydney Battle, and I'm Matt Bellasai.
And this is Diss and Tell. We dive into the world of celebrity feuds.
We're talking brutal sub-tweets, scathing distracts, and tell all memoirs, and all the
juicy drama that keeps us hooked.
We are going to uncover why these feuds happen and dig into the arsenal of weapons that celebrities
use to come out on top.
And let's not forget the big question.
Why can't we look away?
What does our obsession with celebrity feuds say about us?
We're confronting our own fixations.
We're brave and we're ready for it.
for it.
