Starting point is 00:00:53 Gentlemen, are you ready? Start your engines. What I was going to say is, And let's just do it. We've done enough of this. We, yeah. We. I'm surprised you didn't just play the music as we walked in.
Starting point is 00:01:10 Yo, what is good? People of the Internet, welcome back to another episode of the Wayform podcast. We're your host. I'm Marquez. I'm Andrew. And I'm... Trivia! That's...
Starting point is 00:01:24 Yeah, that'll work. This is a trivia extravaganza episode. You know, it's outside of our normal programming, but we do have some scores to settle. We've been accumulating points over the past couple weeks. Andrew, David, and I have been answering trivia questions for weeks in an attempt to build up as many points as possible for this moment here. Now we use our points to capitalize and answer more trivia questions right and see who finds the most at the end and is the winner. Yeah. It should be a good time.
Starting point is 00:01:51 I'm excited for all of the points that I've accrued this entire season to not matter. Quite a lead, but, you know, that's why we play the game. We are not fully hosting over to our left here. We have a score and judges and trivia master table, so I'll let them introduce themselves. Yo, what is up? This is like the 10th time we've done this. You already know what it is. Unless you're new here.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Oh, yeah. Because people have subscribed a lot recently. If you are due, my name is Ellis. I'm joined by my lovely co-producer, actually really my lead producer, Adam, and our temporary scoring guest who comes in when we need him. Alex Wolfe. So good at math. Guys, you guys are not new here. So I don't need to explain this
Starting point is 00:02:34 to you. But just to set the record straight, we are going to do our normal three segment podcast, except this time it's only trivia. Nothing but wall to wall questions, different categories, different thoughts, different ideas. Is this going to light up?
Starting point is 00:02:50 Is what going to, no. Don't get too excited. And then jump scare. but it's just like a horror movie I'm gonna kick it off to Adam for our first category
Starting point is 00:03:02 let's get it I'm excited we need our buzzers is there going to be a lobster category prior to being exposed to oxygen what no I'm joking
Starting point is 00:03:11 clear first category what would Gemini say so this is buzzers yeah what are the buzzers what's the buzzer not yet not yet this one will just be
Starting point is 00:03:21 write them down in a whiteboard yeah oh yeah we'll ease you into Don't worry. As they get the whiteboards, I'll explain the rules. So we asked Google Gemini, a mix of common and unique questions. I'm going to read you the answer.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Tell me if that answer came from AI or if we made it up. First question, which is also the example question, so it's not worth anything, but let's just get it going. Sure. What year was the construction on the Empire State Building completed? Answer, construction on the Empire State Building was completed. in 1931. It officially opened on May 1st, 1931. Was that an AI answer or did I make it up? Is this Gemini or just a regular Google search? Straight up Gemini. Only Gemini. I was in the Gemini tab and everything. Yeah. What do you guys think? Wait. David's still writing? I'm done.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Okay. This is the example question. Okay. So David said made it up. I said AI. And I said Gemini AI all right yeah so Andrew and Marquez would get that point because it came straight from Gemini that was like the warm-up question right yes that was showing how the game works exactly exactly that's why you got it wrong right yeah yeah yeah I need to make sure as an example yeah an example wrong thank you for that yeah good call yeah okay question two where does the Asus name brand come from answer from Greek mythology based on Zeus I guess
Starting point is 00:04:54 Did Google Gemini make that up? Or was that me? Wait, that's so hard because it could just lie. This could be Gemini making it up or you making it up. But which one did it come from? Flip them and read.
Starting point is 00:05:09 What do you got? I said this is made up from you. I said AI. In cursive, I wrote you. I made it up? Yes. Yes. So Marquez and David get those points.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I was like, I think it would understand the Pegatron thing. That's what I kind of thought. Yeah. Okay. Next question. What is the pixel density of the iPhone 8? Eight.
Starting point is 00:05:33 That is exactly what I typed into Google Gemini. The answer. The iPhone 8 featured a retina HD display, which equates to 448 pixels per inch. Was that Google Gemini, or did I make that up? Or did Gemini make it up? Or did I make it up? Or did Alice make it out?
Starting point is 00:05:56 Honestly hard to say. You guys got your answers? Yeah, but I wait for the music. Oh, okay. Flip them and read. What do you got? We all put AI. You all put AI.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Wrong. I made that up. You worded that very... Thank you. Great syntax. It's 326 pixels per inch with a retina of display. Well, Gemini could lie about that. It could have.
Starting point is 00:06:19 That's part of the game. All right. Question number three. Well, I guess four at this point if you count the first one with the Empire State Building, but who's counting that one? What does red stand for in red cameras? Answer. Red.
Starting point is 00:06:33 The red in red cameras does not stand for anything. The founder Jim Ginnard has stated in interviews that he thinks it means redefining everything digitally. That's kind of cool. Wait, the founder thinks that it means that? Yeah. It technically does not stand for anything, but he likes to think that. Did I make that up?
Starting point is 00:06:59 Or is it an answer that Google Gemini gave me? What'd you guys say? We all said AI. Nope, I made it up. Dang. That's a hard... We're bad at this. I'm bad at this.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Yeah. Same. All right. Next question. The founder thinks it may stand for... Yeah, whatever. Explain... Bring your dollars.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Explain what the MLS protocol does for RCS. Answer, MLS, or the Merrid Legitimacy Signal, is the messaging protocol that is embedded within RCS that points each device to its relative encryption key in order to decrypt messages. Is that an answer that Google AI gave me? I feel like that's too complex for Gemini to tell you. I feel like Gemini would have told you about Major League Soccer.
Starting point is 00:07:50 That's honestly, probably. you asked messy plays for intermenity you asked about the protocol the MLS protocol what does it do
Starting point is 00:07:59 for RCS that is what I did that was your prompt yeah the prompt and was the answer I mean you're gonna make me read it again MLS or the
Starting point is 00:08:06 merit legitimacy signal is the messaging protocol that is embedded within RCS don't ask you to read it again it then look bored I'm I've got banana stuck in my teeth
Starting point is 00:08:17 oh banana that points each device to its relative encryption key to decrypt messages. Did I make that up or did Google Gemini tell me that? Gemini. You all said Gemini. Gemini. Wrong.
Starting point is 00:08:33 I made it up. You just made everything out, didn't you? Wait, I like your hatchet pattern, Marquez. Oh, thank you. It's nice. Nice. Okay. Wow.
Starting point is 00:08:44 I did not think this game was going to go well. I'm loving it. I don't know if anyone else is having fun. Source. I made it up. Next question. 7,456 multiplied by 18, divided by 3
Starting point is 00:08:56 to the power of 7. No. Answer. No. 61. 61.3? Wait, I'm still doing that. 61.3.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Can you do? Tell me the math again. 7,456 multiplied by 18, divided by 3 to the power of 7. What? What? The answer I got was 61.3. Is that the answer I got from Google Gemini?
Starting point is 00:09:26 Or is that the answer I got from a calculator? Not from a... Well, you could have just made up the answer. I could have. Did I? So could Gemini. I'm so scared, dude. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:40 You got it? I do. Flip them and read. What do you got? I originally flipped it up. I changed it to Gemini because I think if I put Gemini over and over and over again,
Starting point is 00:09:49 eventually look at it right I that was right it was that was correct it was Gemini yes you know what that's the point because the other two said that I made it up I did I got in my head the the snazzy lab thing you guys did where Mike Hurley made the answer for every single first thing B and didn't realize it and then I was like he didn't realize that I think you had to have realized how do you not realize that was he just had a child congrats to him so he's running on limited sleep no It was a great show. It was his decision to have a child.
Starting point is 00:10:23 So, next question. What was the code name of the first Google Nexus device ever released? Answer, love. Did I make it up? Or did Google Gemini tell me that? Just love? Just love. So what are you working on in Mountain View?
Starting point is 00:10:39 Love. We're trying to code love. Instead, they created Gemini. Wait, this is hard. The answer is just love. The answer is just love. Nothing else. Straight up love.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Just love. Okay. Yeah. All right. Flip them and read. What do we got? Made it up. Made it up.
Starting point is 00:10:56 Finally, you all get it right. So you all get a point. I did make that up. AI is way too wordy. It would not just give a one word answer. That's fair. Okay. What was the battery life of the original iPhone?
Starting point is 00:11:07 The answer that it gave me all day. All day. I was going to say. Is that Google Gemini's answer? Or did I make that up? Damn. The battery length has a thousand, changed at all since the first iPhone.
Starting point is 00:11:24 The battery life has actually gotten way bigger. It's just that days have gotten way longer since 2007. Planet spinning is slowing down. All right. Flip them and read. What do we got? You made it up. Made it up.
Starting point is 00:11:40 Made it up. All right. Y'all got the point. I did make that up. It was actually eight hours of talk time, 24 hours of audio playback, seven hours of video playback, six hours of web browsing. We used to be a country. used to. Next question. What does the W.H. stand for in the W.H. 1000 X.m.4 headphone name. Answer. Wireless headband.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Is that from Google Gemini? Or did I make that out? I don't know if I've ever actually... I think I know what that is. actually i know what it stands for i think there'd be a separate good trivia question me honest yeah actually yeah the product names yeah made it i'll say i made it up ellis yeah sorry i was thinking about the lights oh what sound like it's a lot going on so jemina said isn't it wearable headphone wireless headphone i don't know this is just what jemini told me i didn't fact check it oh what it's what wireless headphones Google Gemini told me a wireless headband.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Headband. I think that actually makes sense because it does differentiate it from WF. Oh, and what is WF? WF. Wireless phone with the name. Free.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Or it means redefining everything digitally. Nice. According to the founder who thinks it might be that. I don't know. Nice. All right.
Starting point is 00:13:12 I'm handing it off now to Ellis for his section. Guys, this is going to be another whiteboard round. So keep those things right front of you. All right. So, as we all know, one of the biggest smash hits in Wave Form Trivia Extravaganza history was our startup names episode. And unfortunately, or segment or whatever, we've used them all. We can't, we can't do it anymore. And
Starting point is 00:13:38 modern startups have ditched the 2010's stupid naming schemes. They now all spell their names like normal people, which is so... Just it all lowercase. With AI. Yeah, exactly. Right.io. But I have, as I browse through lists of tech companies and, you know, I'm using tech very broadly here, you know, because most companies are tech companies now. But as I go through these lists, I've realized most of the names they use are completely meaningless and nonsense whatsoever, specifically the ones in FinTech or Web3 or crypto or payment
Starting point is 00:14:14 services. Yeah, because the service is meaningless as well. You know, I couldn't have said it anybody. better yourself. So for this segment, I'm going to read you between three to four FinTech Crypto Web3 Financial Services. You get the idea. Cool. One of the companies in the category is not a fintech company. And you guys have to tell me which one out of each list is not FinTech, Crypto, Web3, blockchain, et cetera. Are they a tech company? Everything's a tech company. I don't care. Can we do a score update?
Starting point is 00:14:49 Yes, Alex. Currently, Marquez scored three points in round one to bring his total up to 37 points. David scored four points in round one, bringing his total up to 41 points. Andrew scored two points in round one, bringing his total to 26 points. And this is exciting because David, correct me if I'm wrong, you have never won one of these. That's correct. You are on track. Marquez is one, too, and Andrew's won one.
Starting point is 00:15:18 Yeah, so this is exciting. If you don't, it tells us his fault for bringing. Well, David, you do have the most experience in the room working for tech companies, so maybe. Yeah, but I don't know. Not fintech, CryptoWeb 3. Well, let's kick it off. This first company, all three of these except for one, are crypto companies, crypto companies. Are you ready, guys?
Starting point is 00:15:41 Okay. Crypto. Block. Blockworks. block phi and super blocks so is that ABCD
Starting point is 00:15:55 just write which one of those you think is not a fintech company I did not get letters That is spell it wrong Is that fine? These are all spelled exactly the way you would expect them to Block
Starting point is 00:16:05 Blockworks Block Fai and Superblocks All right Who would like to read their answers first Literally all put blockworks You all put blockworks And you're all wrong. The answer was Superblocks, which brands itself as the AWS of Internal Tooling, which, if I was on a first date and someone was like, I work at the AWS of Internal Tooling, I'd be like...
Starting point is 00:16:29 You'd be like, let's get married. Yeah, right now. Yep. Denim, silk, quilt, and fabric. Oh, these are all fintech companies. Can you say them again? denim silk quilt and fabric this is like connections wait also if anyone in our audience works at one of these companies and it feels like I mischaracterize the
Starting point is 00:17:05 industry that your company is in don't tell me I don't care I don't care you can literally just pick a random word huh Yeah, yeah, and then get, you know, VC money. But guys, what did you put for that one? You all put... Different stuff. Oh, oh, we'll read your answers. I put silk.
Starting point is 00:17:25 And that is correct, David. One point for David Amel. Andrew, what did you put? Denim, unfortunately, is FinTech. And Marquez? I wrote fabric. Also, FinTech, I'm pretty sure. Silk is actually a cloud soft.
Starting point is 00:17:39 Dude, all of these companies... We all knew quilt. I knew Silk was a company. I've used quilt. What does quilt do? Quillet is like a payment processing thing. There's also one called Plaid. Oh, that's what I was thinking of.
Starting point is 00:17:50 That would have been good in this. Sorry, that's what I was thinking of, not quilt. So I don't know what quilt is. All right, guys, are you ready for the next one? Why am I asking you? I don't care. Guys, first company. Here we go.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Did you give me my point? Yes. Okay, cool. We have tabula. All right. Kubra. Kubra, but without the you. Separate company, KBRA.
Starting point is 00:18:13 And move. M-O-O-V. That's right. Tabula, Kubra, Kubra, and move. Also, to clarify, because Rufus was a little confused earlier when we tested this, these are all real companies. Ellis did not make any of these up. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I found all of these companies in the built-in New York website, so ostensibly all of these companies are actively hiring New Yorkers, too. Wow. These aren't even like Bay Area? Every company's a Bay Area company.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Just like ever coming with? Maybe the Bay are just the friends we meet along the world. Yeah, maybe. You know what? Flip the boards. You're right. All right. Who would like to read their answers?
Starting point is 00:18:56 Andrew and I both put Kubra without the U. That is incorrect. That is a company that helps credit reporting agencies restore their users' trust in them. I don't know. Okay. That's also what Marquez put. I wrote Kubra with the U or whatever. And that is correct.
Starting point is 00:19:13 But the Kubra with the whatever's. No, I was wrong. I'm wrong. I had it written down wrong. Cobra with the U does AI, e-commerce, and IT payment stuff. Tabula is an ad tech and digital media company. I'm sorry. What is the question again?
Starting point is 00:19:29 Which one of these is not fintech? Two of these companies did have the same name. Oh, right. Just spelled Tabula. Tabula. That sounds like a restaurant. No, it's like when you got to check out and you got to get to your taboolator. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:43 I'm pretty sure it's the, like, in an article when it does the fake ads at the bottom that seem like more articles on the, yeah, yeah, that brings you to different websites, but looks like in-page, like other articles. Which is not fintech. All right, I'll be real. I don't want to think about fintech anymore. So we're just going to do one more of these, take the ad break. How does that sound, fellas? Sure.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Sounds good. All right, guys, this last one, we have four companies. Three of them are in fintech slash ad tech. I don't know, bro. This is so. Actually, no. Sorry. I'm wrong.
Starting point is 00:20:15 This last one is not fintech. Three of these companies are in ad tech. Okay. Because everything's a tech company. One of them is not. Let's go. The companies are 0, 55, 45, 42, and gum gum. That is 0.55, 45, 40.
Starting point is 00:20:43 2 and GumGum. I hate this. I didn't know I was going to be tortured today. Really? Just trivia extravaganza? You didn't know you're going to be tortured? Oh, this is the funniest any of your points I've ever looked. Let's read those answers, boys. I said zero.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Zero is correct. Zero is an AI-powered email client that manages your inbox. your inbox you know i thought that's actually a good name oh right yeah like zero inbox you know i thought about putting zero uh you guys put 55 and 42 both of which are wrong answers i really thought 42 was a uh like i t company yeah 42 is analytic stack for retailers and brands what does 55 do 55 i just wrote ad tech because i was so sick of writing those category tacos again yeah anyway you know tacos Hot Dogs, guys, we're going to be right back after this break.
Starting point is 00:21:44 We'll come back with a score update and, in my opinion, one of the best segments we've ever done. Very nice TIE up to maintain your ship. We'll be right back. Starting point is 00:24:06 All right. Frankly, round two was pathetic. Two total points scored. Oh, wow. Marquez now sits at 38 points after two rounds. David sits at 42 points after two rounds. Andrew's still holding steady at 26 points after two rounds. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Are we upping the Annie on these points through rounds? Sure. No, it's just one. If you guys want us to go extra hard and make it like 10 point questions, we could do that. Was that so the earn throw? hear the category name before. No, no, no, no, you have to decide before. Because these first two, I don't think would be,
Starting point is 00:24:46 it wouldn't make much sense for those to be 10-pointers, but maybe, especially. You would have got 20 points. Yeah, but I'm in the lead. So I think, yeah. I think we need to give me a random one out there for like 10 points. Yeah, what was David's last job? Guys, this next segment I'm really, really stoked on.
Starting point is 00:25:06 This one's going to be really, really, really funny, I hope. Or I'm overselling. it and it's just going to be dead quiet as we do this. Disneyland. This is not a buzzer nor is it a whiteboard round. This is a round-robin round. Using a shall-be-unnamed AI tool that has a particularly sort of Dutch-sounding name. Gemini.
Starting point is 00:25:29 Yes. The famous Dutch name. Chat Gip-T. Guys, I wrote a program that scraped the world. scraped the Y Combinator website. Oh, no. And from that scrape, I took the last three cohorts of Y Combinator companies, entries, participants.
Starting point is 00:25:50 I don't know what you call them. Also, don't care. Class. And I took their bylines, the quick one sentence description of these companies. And I built a list of the top 20 most used words in the past three cohorts of Y Combinator companies. Well, you're going to go around Robin, around the room, over and over and over again, and you guys have to tell me what these words are. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:15 They will, as of right now, I was thinking it would be one point for word, irregardless, of rank. But I've heard some bemoaning from the peanut gallery. It's one to 20. Yeah. It should be, that's how they should be right. So you think, okay, but 20 points for the top one, AI. It's only one time that gets the top one. Yeah, AI.
Starting point is 00:26:36 No, do it flip. Yeah, I think the 20th word should be 20 points and the number one. Oh, that's a good one. Yeah, I like that too. Yeah. Okay. All right. Are you score?
Starting point is 00:26:47 Are you able to handle this? It's right in front of me. Great. Can I trust you to cross out words that we've already gotten? Absolutely. All right, guys. I think we should do snake draft, by the way. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:58 We're doing snake draft then, and I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 10. 7. eight, six. Marquez has it. He always does. Shocker. So does that mean I go first? It does mean that you go first.
Starting point is 00:27:15 I would like to choose going second. Wait, no, you go first. You go first. I'm not, this is, we've already spent too much time drafting this snake. It's too hard. Marquez, may I remind you, the number one word on this list used 8.5. Sorry, I guess let me give a little bit more explanation. So just remember, the 20th most used word, the least frequent.
Starting point is 00:27:35 used word on my list is worth the most points. I filtered out all the, like, stupid words. So there's no, there's no the, yeah, there's no and, there's no, uh, these are all either nouns or verbs or whatever. And one more time, give me the context. It's the words in the bios of the top, what? The bylines, so the one sentence description of the last three cohorts of Ycombinator companies.
Starting point is 00:27:59 So the descriptions of the companies. Yeah, so this is spring 2025, fall 2025, and, winter 2024. And another nitpicky question, are different conjugations of the same word, all the same word? That is an excellent question and I have grouped together different conjugations of the word. I've also grouped together plurals. Are acronyms allowed? There are no acronyms on this list. Good to know. So with my first pick, I am picking build. Excellent choice, Marquez. build is the third most used word. Making up 1.3% of all words used in Y Combinator descriptions in the last three
Starting point is 00:28:40 cohorts used 32 times if you include building and builder. You're saying there's no acronyms in this? There are no acronyms that I see on my list. So the very obvious acronym. A.I. Yeah, wait, sorry. Okay, then I'm going to say AI. Yeah, that is.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Wow, Jesus. All right, well, you just chose the number one word. I know, I just want to make sure I get a point. I thought there's no acronyms. Yeah, I forgot that AI was an acronym. But number one is worth less points. Yeah, you did better. Number one is worth less points.
Starting point is 00:29:09 Number one is worth the least amount of points. I feel really stupid for getting that AI is an acronym. I just think of it as a self-contained turd of shit at this point. Okay. I forgot it because it's anyway. Yes, AI, guys, I just want to lay this on you guys. AI makes up 8.5% of all words used to describe companies. These percentages, by the way, guys, I calculated before removing filler words.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Meaning that all words that why combinator companies use, 8% of them. Including of and and and and the. AIs used 8.5% of the time. insane uh david okay uh scalable slash scale scale scale is not scalable is not on there i'm so sorry nope not anymore um but you get to go again what about democratize uh that one is what dude i was thinking like we are building this to democratize this you got to you got to think stupider really yeah way stupider marquez put build three points yep uh Andrew that takes us back what about oh to you okay I can't tell this is a stupid one or not
Starting point is 00:30:28 is 10x a word I do 10 X not 100 X 100 Gex Marquez back to you hmm okay let's see I want to go for high points here so the description of the company I'm gonna use the word help. Help. This is way better. Yep, that is worth 18 points. It was used nine times. So I'm behind now?
Starting point is 00:30:56 Yes, by quite a lot. Oh my God. And the second... David, you gotta start getting stupid, man. Does snake mean I go again? It does mean you go again. Okay. For my second pick...
Starting point is 00:31:10 Tire season out the window. does the word bring qualify uh i don't see it on my list i can't remember that's when i scratched i don't think i would have scratched bring uh so it is not on the list you know every time um i run into someone who watches the show in the real world they say man you're really killing it at trivia there's tons of time left david david there is there are there are so many points on the board if you nail your next two guesses you could earn 30 39 points before it gets back to Andrew. All right.
Starting point is 00:31:46 Deliver. I do not see Deliver on my list. I'm so sorry. 10% of my diet is true. I hit the wrong button. I'm really sorry, Andrew. I was not trying to add insult to injury there, I swear. David?
Starting point is 00:32:00 What about we? I'm going to let you guys again. Oh, okay. I'm unusually benevolent today. Platforms. Ooh, platform is the. sixth most used word giving you six points it was used 17 times David got to get stupider man if you want these high point ones what's just hit your head on the desk a few
Starting point is 00:32:24 times and think about tech code code is the 17 number 17 worth 17 points baby we're back it was used nine times including and I lumped in with that code coders vibe code and code base nice way to go David I knew you had the dumbness in you Andrew that means we're back to you go we're so bad I don't think this is a filler word but new I do not see new on my list I do not remember you gotta think stupider man new it's new try again it's three letters try again okay it's because no one's making anything new no it's not that it's that when I say dumb I don't mean like low diction words I mean I'm not saying it that either it's I got one.
Starting point is 00:33:12 I mean, like, I'm excited for new products. I have one. My next guess is sweet. Like S-U-I-T-E. No, but you do have a second guess. Okay. I have a really good one. My next guess is productivity.
Starting point is 00:33:32 So sorry. Damn, these companies do not. So sorry. Okay, I have one. Yes. Together. Together was on my list. but it is not in the top 20.
Starting point is 00:33:43 Okay. Cloud. Shit. That's good. Cloud is not on my list. It's of the top 20, but this is what I'm talking about. You have to think, like, there's two words relating to AI still on this board. One of which is worth 19 points, and the other which is only worth two points.
Starting point is 00:34:03 Learning. Unfortunately, you did not get any of them, but you're getting closer. All right. I have it. Model. Model is worth 90. 17 points. Way to go.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Wow. It was used nine times in the last three cohorts. Oh, man. Oh, I know one. And now is my turn? And now is your turn, Marquez. Service. Wow, I'm surprised that one's not there.
Starting point is 00:34:25 What? It was used four times. I feel like we're both thinking of the same thing, but you think it would be very close to... Machine, unfortunately, is not on the list. Jesus. Might have been worth inferring that from learning not being on the list, but, hey, I don't tell you how to use your guesses. There's all the machines.
Starting point is 00:34:44 All right. Language. That's what I was going to use. I knew we were going to. I knew it. I do not see language. So that's what's confused. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:51 Yeah. So maybe I should have taken that backmark as I humbly apologize. So one thing I was surprised by, and this is AI related, is how many companies used this word. Because I did not think of it as like a fresh wave of AI stuff that people were developing. But it makes sense. It's a mode. it's a mode autonomous
Starting point is 00:35:14 is it way is your turn to guess it is yeah oh uh wow really really it's too smart
Starting point is 00:35:21 um computer wait that's no I'm not gonna guess that that's stupid but there's
Starting point is 00:35:31 computer's not on there uh do we already guess we got a system did we guess are you reading my fucking mind no
Starting point is 00:35:38 that's exactly your mind yeah system your guess yes System is worth the most points on the board, David. Let's go! You just got the 20 bomb.
Starting point is 00:35:49 I swear to God it was like a wrist-in forehead. Yes! I said operating system's not on here? Let me just guess system. Okay, why don't we go? Everyone gets one more. People. Do you want to buy your...
Starting point is 00:36:01 Dude, are I being too hard? I have to go with... Operate? Hmm. You got one more. Streamline. Too smart. Oh, that was a really good one.
Starting point is 00:36:13 Oh, my God. Subscription. Oh, my God. Fast. Oh, get it out. Ooh. I got one. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Yeah. I was going to steal it again. I swear, if I write this down right now, oh, man. Personal. So fun. And I get one more. You do get one more. I will set it.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Okay. Uh, yeah, this, this helps. Database. I'll give it to you. I'll give it to you. Data was used 16 times making up around half a percent of all words. No. Oh. But that shouldn't count.
Starting point is 00:37:01 You have to say data. That's crazy. Wow. Seven points. I thought it was 16. No. No. No.
Starting point is 00:37:08 You used 16 times. Oh. Oh, it's not in the 16. I think I got 16 points. Andrew. App. It's 2010. App is an acronym for.
Starting point is 00:37:16 There's not a single app. App stands for application. Okay. Marquez. I believe you had a word you were very excited about. Yeah. Optimize. All right.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Care to try again. If you read my mind, I swear to go. And then I had another. I guess I should consult a master list for more of these. And you said people already? How have we gotten the four hardest ones? Do you say people already? I said people.
Starting point is 00:37:41 There is a word that refers to groups of people that is on this list. I wasn't going to say masses, but I don't think that's it. I'll just say it. Masses. It's probably not that. Yeah. Okay. Internet.
Starting point is 00:37:53 Customers. Wow. I've already given you a hit, David. I'm sorry. There's a few. Client. That are here. Oh, it wasn't that?
Starting point is 00:38:04 No, it was not that. I didn't say it. You guys are going to be so mad when you find out of the rest of these. We don't have the number. We don't have number two. I got a bunch. The number two is so obvious. Electronic.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Oh, my God. I don't know. What would be right behind AI? Internet. No, Android. All right. What would be, what's right behind AI? What word almost always follows the word AI?
Starting point is 00:38:31 I have one. Service? Was service on here? No, I already asked service. No. Also. Agent. Agent is correct.
Starting point is 00:38:41 Used 68 times. That's two? Agent. Yeah. My guess is crypto. Crypto's out, bro. VCs are not interested. It ain't 2021 anymore.
Starting point is 00:38:51 No, it's not, but you do get one more guess. And it should end on David, so do you want to do... Should this be it? Do you want to end this or do one more time? I think one more. Okay. Blockchain. I just said crypto.
Starting point is 00:39:06 Oh, sorry. Okay. No, no, you are kidding. All right. Andrew. Andrew, this is your second or last guess. I know. No pressure.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Love. Interface is not on my list. Marquez Financial Financial is not on my list Rapper Rapper is not on my list User is not on my list
Starting point is 00:39:53 Browser Browser is not on my list No browser is not on my list All right we're done Guys Excellent job So some of the funny ones that you guys missed include powered slash power
Starting point is 00:40:05 Software you guys did not guess Voice was the AI mode that was here way more than I thought it would. Sales. Real was on here a lot. I was thinking B2B. The word for groups of people was team. Team was
Starting point is 00:40:25 used 14 times. Guys, here's one that really threw me for the loop. The 12th word on my list used 12 times, coincidentally, was cursor. Oh, because things are being built on cursor? No, because so many companies just refer to themselves in their byline as the cursor of blank.
Starting point is 00:40:48 Wow. Yes. Curser is an AI coding app. Exactly. Yeah, it's like a dedicated environment. Do I want to just read the one? I want to just read the one through 20? Yeah, can you just read it in order.
Starting point is 00:40:59 Number 20, system used nine times. Models 19, nine times. Yeah, so sorry, 20 through 17 are all tied. System models help code. Help, help, helping, helpers. Wow. That's our, damn. 16, 10 times.
Starting point is 00:41:16 Healthcare. 15. Sales. 14, real. 13. Native. What is real? Like, real?
Starting point is 00:41:23 R.E.A.L. Oh, R.EAL. Like, real experiences. Native is good. Was experiences one? Experiences is not on here. No. Then we have cursor, team, source, voice.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Open. Seven is data. Six is platform. Five is software. Four is powered. three is build, two is agent, and number one. Making up 8.5%... We didn't say software?
Starting point is 00:41:48 The funny thing is you said, think of as dumb as possible, and I thought button, which is not that far away from power. Or cursor. Guys, before we get into our next segment, we need to score up to eight because points were flying around that round.
Starting point is 00:42:04 I might be cooked now. No, I think David, like, really took the lead on that one. Not really, but kind of. So contrary to round two, where only two points were scored in the whole round. We now have seismic updates to the score. Andrew began last round with 26 points, scored 22 more points. Wow. Which brought him up to 48 points total.
Starting point is 00:42:32 Marquez began last round with 38 points, scored 21 points, to bring. him to 59 total after three rounds. David had 42 after round two scored a whopping 50 points in round three. Are you serious? Yes. Giving David now a grand total of 92 after three rounds. You wanted to go big and you went big. We might have messed this up. As long as the values of upcoming questions are still high enough to mean anyone can win. This next section, everything is 10-pointed there's... That's fair. If you guys sweep me by the end of this, I'm going to be so sad.
Starting point is 00:43:20 We might as well just... What? Screw it. No rules. 10 points per question. Oh, my. Guys, this next one is called the chicken of the egg. We're going to read you two...
Starting point is 00:43:28 The chicken products. The chicken of the egg. This is the chicken of the sea, right? No, I'm referring to... What's the... Rick Ross. Oh, yeah, the... J. Calab.
Starting point is 00:43:38 The almond. of the coconut or whatever he says? No, no, no, no, no. The mathematician who is like, who uses eggs as the, the mathematician uses eggs to explain dimensions. You know what I'm talking about? That's not what we're thinking about at all. It's like, it's on the tip of all of our tongues.
Starting point is 00:43:55 It's like if you, who said that? It's the guy who was like, if you have a, if you have a 2D egg and you're a 3D being, you can see the 2D chicken floating inside the egg because a 3D being can see all sides of a 2D object. Is there a 3D chicken inside the 2D eggs? If there's a, no, there's a 2D chicken inside the 2D. But if there's a 3D egg with a 3D chicken inside, a 4D being would be able to see the, anyway. Guys, chicken or chicken, the egg.
Starting point is 00:44:23 What is a four-dimensional being? We don't know. Do I need to explain it? It's a being that exists in four dimensions. The fourth dimension is time. Oh, that answers that. Yeah. The wild way.
Starting point is 00:44:34 It's theoretical. It's theoretical. It's if there was a fourth axis for us to exist. exist on time. There is. It can't move around in it. Right? That's one.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Okay, everyone should? I exist. Guys, what came first? The fax machine? Or the blender? Okay. My markers running out, I think. It's not great.
Starting point is 00:44:57 You guys have extra markers or not? I do not. Oh, that's a Sharpie. I can't use that. All right? Blender the app is like not that old, right? No, no. It's fairly old.
Starting point is 00:45:08 I used it in college, I'm talking about the electric blender. I used it in college and I'm really old, so it's pretty old. Don't forget, 10 points on the line. 10? Per question. All right. What did you guys put? Points available.
Starting point is 00:45:25 Mark has and I put blender and I put FACS. The fax machine is not just older than the blender. It is way older than the blender. The fax machine is so old that it predates the telephone. That's right. They were sending photographs over telegraph wires. Wait, telegraph. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:44 But telegraph and fax machines are different. No, the wires that were sending Morse code messages were also sending photographs over them in the 1860s. I'm going to have to fax check that. Please do. Guys, number two, the QWERTY keyboard layout or the modern paperclip. The mod. Why is that a specific? Because it turns out a lot of people tried to make paper clips and they were not.
Starting point is 00:46:07 very good. And then we got this one and everyone was like, all right, we can, we're done with this. We figured it out. This is what's newer or what's older? What's older? What's older? What's older? What is older? What is older? Disregard that. That's the whole question. The whole question is which is is older. Is it 2D or 3D? Faximile. I have no clue on paper clips came around. What do we got? I'm going quarty. Quarty is correct. That is 10 points. I thought that was newer. No, it's really old. It's from 1878. I thought it was like a new Japanese guy that did it. No. No. Actually, there's rumors that it's Remington that did it. Rumor. I, so I am pulling the first Remington typewriter from 1878 that had it. However, there were two or three
Starting point is 00:46:54 typewriters prior to that through the 1870s, which had things that resembled the Cordy antsy layout. However, they were not exact. So I'm counting, a studio short on this. 1878. Oh, that's right. I forgot about that. Wow. All right, guys, these next one, I want to try to go as a lightning round so get ready to write these really fast ready okay Fubo or to be what do we got I'm not expected to know these right I said Fubo you said Fubo same I said to be two B is correct way to go David all right follow up to be or Roku I keep forgetting Roku fits in this constant vowel, constant vowel.
Starting point is 00:47:39 It better be what I think it is. And the answer is, please, Roku. Nope, the answer is still Tupi. Are you kidding me? Roku is so, O-G. Tubey is from 2014. Roku's from 2017, according to my notes. Wait, what?
Starting point is 00:47:51 2017. No, Roku was around when I was in college. I think Roku's been around for a bit. 2002, so Roku is. Yeah, but doesn't change anything because we all got the point. Yeah, well, give us all points. Okay, 10 points for all of us.
Starting point is 00:48:04 I was like, no way. Yeah, no, I see where I got it wrong. In 2014, Roku released their first TVs with Roku's built-in. But they were a box before. They were a box. Continuing with the trend, Roku or Mubi. Do we have to spill it right? I don't care.
Starting point is 00:48:22 All right, what do we got? I wrote Moby. Roku is correct. Marquez. And Andrew, did you get that one right? No, I got it wrong. Just me. Ten points for Marquez.
Starting point is 00:48:31 All right. One more, guys. I swear this is not annoying. Mubi. Or Pluto. Ooh. That's right. Five letters.
Starting point is 00:48:43 Innovator. Disruptor. Hardly no. What do we got? Ready? Mooby. I wrote Mooby. Mooby is correct.
Starting point is 00:48:58 Damn. Oh, Marquez got that wrong. Yeah, that's that wrong. I've never heard of me. Pluto that like, Pluto TV. I didn't watch TV TV channel. It's not. It's real.
Starting point is 00:49:07 The whole category of TV things, but I don't watch TV. It's legal. It plays ads. Stumble upon or Reddit. Which one came first? I know this. Chicken or the egg. What do you guys got?
Starting point is 00:49:18 You both put that? Stumble upon. Because Stumble upon as well. So 10 points each for David and Marquez because I stumbled upon. I was using Semple upon when I was a freshman in high school. But I only started using Reddit when it came out when I was like a junior. All right. Shazam or TiVo.
Starting point is 00:49:41 Tebow? Tebow. Oh, Shazam or TiVo. See in the little TiVo guy when I was researching that? Shazam. Just brought warm, warm feelings to my heart. I love that little dude. My friend's dad was like the regional manager of Best Buy and he had TiVo because he was rich.
Starting point is 00:49:58 It was cool. I didn't have it, but it was cool. The controller was cool. I had the little guy on it. Now we just have YouTube TV. YouTube TiVo. Flipman Reed, what do we got? TiVo.
Starting point is 00:50:09 We all put TiVo? Correct. It was Tibeo. 99,000. Wow. I learned this researching this question. Shazam actually launched as an SMS service. Really?
Starting point is 00:50:19 Yeah, where you would call the Shazam number, hold your phone up to a speaker, and they would send you a text message with what song is it like. Why don't they just tell you on the other side? Because your phone would meet your ear. You'd be like. That's actually really impressive. That's like very innovative and interesting.
Starting point is 00:50:34 You know, Twitter was an SMS service. Guys, I have, really? You could tweet with SMS, yeah. That's how it started. Remember when Domino's? That's why I had 140 character limit. That's some trivia right there. SMS was 144 characters.
Starting point is 00:50:46 Do you remember when Domino's had an SMS service? Never heard of it. No. Really? Andrew, even you? I just called. There was a period of time where you could, in your Domino's account, register your phone number and like your favorite order. And if you texted, and your cutter card.
Starting point is 00:51:01 And if you texted them the pizza emoji, it would automatically place the order for delivery to your Wait, bring this back, bro. We need this technology now. Also, the basis of the Wii app. The Wii App? The Wii Domino's app. Oh, yeah. I don't know this.
Starting point is 00:51:17 There is a Domino's app on the Wii. There was a domino. It's like a channel, like the Domino's channel. Yeah. Yeah. All right, we got to. It's dope. Wow.
Starting point is 00:51:24 Okay, guys. Guys, this one is not exactly tech, but it's sort of tech. And this one I just find hilarious. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, the S-N-E-S-N-N-S. SNES. The SNES. or chabata bread okay
Starting point is 00:51:44 for the older one they do love chabata in SF I wonder if a tech company invented chabata that was actually the ninth word in the Y combinator is a AI Chabada platform Chabada bread is a type of bread
Starting point is 00:52:05 Yeah. It's the Italian answer to the baguette. Newer, right? Newer? We're looking for older. No, I am looking for... Older. Older.
Starting point is 00:52:16 Yes, SNAS. No, Chabata is older than the SNS, but only by eight years. Oh, really? 1982, yeah. Think about that. As children, none of our parents had Shabata. Whoa. They probably still aren't.
Starting point is 00:52:29 I might not have had Chabada either. That word's too hard. Chabada me crazy. All right, let's get a quick update on the score and then take it to one more break. Our scoring update after four rounds, it looks way more impressive and yet is the same situation because you all scored 50 points in that last round. So Marquez now sits at 109. Andrew now sits at 98.
Starting point is 00:52:58 And David is sitting pretty at 142 points. Jesus. Wow. Damn. And the next round, everything's worth a hundred months. I mean, we're all 50 points apart, so, like, reasonably, if everything 10 points again, we could still win. Yeah, let's make it everything's one point. But there's a one giant question.
Starting point is 00:53:23 Okay. What is David's middle name? All right, well, we got one more category after the break. It's one with the buzzers and one audio round. So stay tuned. Anyone could still win. We'll be right back. Summer's here, and you can now get almost anything you need for your sunny days, delivered with Uber Eats.
Starting point is 00:53:51 What do we mean by almost? Well, you can't get a well-groom lawn delivered, but you can get a chicken parmesan delivered. A cabana? That's a no, but a banana, that's a yes. A nice tan, sorry, nope, but a box fan, happily yes. No. A box of fine wines? Yes. Uber Eats can definitely get you that. Get almost, almost anything delivered with Uber Eats. Order now. Because with regular comprehensive eye exams at Specsavers, you'll know just how healthy they are. Visit Spexsavers.cavers.cai to book your next eye exam. Eye exams provided by independent optometrists. Guys, welcome back. We have two more things.
Starting point is 00:55:04 We've got a little funky little thing that we've never actually done before. This is going to be very new for us. We'll see if it's actually fun or not. And then we're going to be doing our, you know, world famous audio round. Audio round. So, guys, Adam came up with a really interesting idea for a category, which was we're going to write descriptions of famous apps and their icons, just their icons, famous apps, icons. The icons of famous apps. Descriptions.
Starting point is 00:55:31 Okay. And then have you guess what they were based on. those. But then we thought, wait, no, that's no fun. It is fun. But we could make it more fun by having insert AI assistant write the descriptions for us. And then we realized we could have even more fun by visualizing it, by asking them to do it as specific characters. What? Like Homer Simpson? Not that specific. Oh. As general characters. Like Charmander. So let's do this first one. This first app's description is going to be read
Starting point is 00:56:04 as a pirate. How are we answering these? You have to tell me what the app is. On the whiteboard? Yeah, with your mind. Could have just yelled it out. Duh. Okay. How are we feeling? I really hope this is funny.
Starting point is 00:56:20 So we're getting descriptions of of apps icons. You're getting descriptions of icons and you have to tell me the app, but each description is not only generated by an AI, And I tried to clean it up as best I could to just remove like wrong stuff or like stuff that didn't make sense, but it still is pretty AIE. Because this has been a weird one.
Starting point is 00:56:41 This is now worth 20 points. This will be the first extract we've ever ended where we might have people with more than 200 points, which I'm just so excited for. Okay. All right. Here is my impression of a pirate. Ahoy there, maids. I be seeing a symbol that looks like a colorful hashtag or cross-e. hatch pattern, tilted at a jaunty angle like a ship's wheel catching the wind. Tis painted in four
Starting point is 00:57:08 bold colors. Ocean blue, sunset red, de bloon yellow, and green. All crossing each other gaps between the spaces and a ship's rigging. I, t' would make a fine flag for gathering the crew together. This is that lost pirate episode. Dude, I was so mad because when I had to make the pirate soundscape, I was like, I've done this so many times for that pirate episode, and it was on an old computer, so I couldn't like
Starting point is 00:57:39 just, anyway, I'm complaining. What do you guys have? Did you all put slack? You all put slack. I did you hear the bubbles? I put bubbles in there. That is correct. Oh, I wish this was a buzzer. A colored hashtag. I was like, yep. Next one is a pinwheel.
Starting point is 00:57:57 Oh, shit. Everything's a pinwheel. All right, guys. The next one is red, yellow, blue, and green. Guys, this next one, this next app, will be read in the voice of a robot. Okay. Beep poop. Zero, zero, zero one, zero.
Starting point is 00:58:16 Enonymous AI did add a lot of beep boops in the robot one that I heard to clean out. Okay. All right. Are you ready, guys? Mm-hmm. Analyzing visual signal processing, I observe a circular green interface element colored in optimal hue 3,4C-C-759 for maximum visibility. That's green. Sorry, this is so funny.
Starting point is 00:58:50 Contain within the circular boundaries, a white speech bubble icon designed to represent textual communication. protocols between humans. The geometric state follows standard conversation-bubble parameters with a small triangular protrusion indicating message origin point. Be-boom. Triangular? Okay, I think I have it. Got it.
Starting point is 00:59:18 Got it. That was fire, dude. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, thank you to kill that. Please. Please. Also, there's a delay in my headphones, which is why I was reading at a snail's pace.
Starting point is 00:59:32 Like, just enough a delay to make that really difficult. All right, let's flip them. I think it would have been entertaining to see us, the progression of things we are writing before we got to the last thing. Wait. We all said, What's App. That was not the answer I was looking for, but I forgot about WhatsApp. So I was looking for my message, but WhatsApp. I'll give you the point.
Starting point is 00:59:57 My message is not an app. Yes, it is. It's called Messages. That is called Messages. It's a protocol. What's the white robot? I don't, I don't care. So you're giving us points for what's our?
Starting point is 01:00:13 You guys are points. All right. This next one, this next one is as if. This next one is if you are a, no. This next one is as if you are a doctor reading a diagnosis. Wow. I hit the wrong computer. Well, I've reviewed your test results, and we need to discuss what we're seeing here.
Starting point is 01:00:44 There's a distinctive white ghost present, and it's quite prominent and appears to be set against a bright, yellow background. The ghost has a somewhat playful demeanor with what looks like. a tongue protruding slightly, which, while unusual, doesn't appear to be serious. I don't think that's the official app logo. I'd recommend we monitor this thing closely as it seems to have a tendency to make things disappear. We're losing him. That's the company logo, not the app.
Starting point is 01:01:15 What's the app? The app doesn't have the tongue. It doesn't have the tongue. That's the difference? There's no face on it at all. Just the silhouette. Anyway, we all know what it is. It's chat.
Starting point is 01:01:24 It's fault. I'm not surprised we all said Snapchat way to go cool I don't even have Snapchat I did it one time because I'm not a youth all right guys this is this app which now I have no idea if it got the icon or the logo so just just good luck this one is a Revolutionary War era soldier who woke up in the future and is seeing this icon for the first time and is confused and awestruck okay By my musket and my powder horn. What manner of sorcery is this?
Starting point is 01:02:02 Tis a red, a red background. Red is the British coats we fought against at Lexington. Within this crimson field lies a white. By God, is it a white triangle? I believe it is, pointing to the east as if waiting for the sun to rise. Good sir, pray tell. What technological marvel from your time does this symbol represent? that's it that's it a white triangle in a red flag in a red uh in a little in a red box
Starting point is 01:02:31 i thought it was something else and i mean i hope i might literally have no idea what that is hey that's a fife sorry oh fife dog actually i fife and a flutter the same thing i don't know why i get you know a buzzer ready yep do it i really wish david got that one wrong because everyone got it right say it one two three YouTube YouTube wow okay so this is way easier than I thought it would be this next one I'm going to read as if I am a morning talk show host radio like FM AM radio host WVRM WVRM exactly are you guys ready yes upbeat morning radio voice with I couldn't find the right music for this so we're just kind of just has to be like slight static
Starting point is 01:03:23 This is it AM radio? Yeah, AM radio. And that's where all the talk shows are anyway. Like that? No, that's sorry. Okay. The time code. Guys, let's kick it off.
Starting point is 01:03:36 Good morning. WV.FR.M. 101.5. Picture a bright coral pink background, fresher than your morning Joe. In the center, a white A with attitude. It's one continuous line with style. No breaks or gaps. WVFRM, listeners, what app are we talking about? A white, wait, don't do that.
Starting point is 01:04:06 He said a white A? A with attitude made of one continuous line. The longer it, until they get right. An A? Yes. An A. All right, flip your boards. Wait, flip your boards.
Starting point is 01:04:18 No, not air. All right, flip your boards. David, you better hurry up, David. Time flip your boards. three two one flip
Starting point is 01:04:28 what did we oh wow good job market that was pretty good that was Airbnb Airbnb is correct I put an app store I wrote Apple in cursive
Starting point is 01:04:39 yeah all right guys we have one you got that quick yeah we have one more can you hit the I literally I literally booked in Airbnb today as soon as you tell me the color
Starting point is 01:04:49 I have like a set of icons in my head okay All right. We have one more. This is as if you are an astronaut, radioing home. Nice. From outer space.
Starting point is 01:05:04 Outer? Inner space. I don't know. Inner space. You're about to land on a planet. It's so good. I can't find. These voice changes are amazing.
Starting point is 01:05:17 I had an outer space one. We'll do the robot one again. Here we go. No, I like the outer space. No, no, no, I have... Houston. Houston, we have a problem. This is Commander speaking from the landing pod.
Starting point is 01:05:36 I'm approaching a fascinating celestial body here. It's got this deep blue, cosmic blue surface that reminds me of Earth's oceans from orbit over. This most remarkable feature is... No, excuse me, the most remarkable feature is large white symbol in the center that looks like the letter S, but it's curved and flowing like a sound wave. The entire formation pulses with a musical energy, this S, it floats on the blue background. Oh, God, I'm picturing. What is it called? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:13 It looks like it's already been the answer to a trivia question in this game. All right, flip them and read. Oh, man, I got it wrong. What did we got? Shazam. I wrote Skype. I can see why you would say that. Look what I wrote.
Starting point is 01:06:33 I wrote. This one's pretty fun. I started writing App Store, and I started writing Skype, and then I landed on Shazam. Maybe you can make all of our voices sound like this. No, just mine over. Dang it. I'm going to need. Okay, that's all for that round, which means it is time for.
Starting point is 01:06:51 the audio rounds guys bangers only don't hate me because I have no idea if this one's going to go well or not because we've used so many sounds so many sounds there's none left and so
Starting point is 01:07:06 I did some thinking and I realized this audio round this whole audio round thing it's not actually about the audio man it's not it's about the fronts me it along the way it's about nostalgia and what better feeling of
Starting point is 01:07:21 nostalgia. What better, what better form of nostalgia? RuneScape. Is, because is what's better. Can you tell we've been podcasting for almost four hours, four or five hours now? Guys, what is better than remembering the feeling of hearing the alarm you used to wake up to in high school and having shivers straight down your spine? That's what we're doing today. I on XDA found a guy who ripped all the system sounds from all the phones. Nice. And put them all up. in a Google Drive and I downloaded the ones that weren't from China and uh because those are the ones that are pretty the China ones are pretty they were really really really good the uh yeah some of them were like the Huawei ones are so like the Huawei ones were amazing yeah anyway guys
Starting point is 01:08:07 I'm going to play some ringtones some system sounds some alerts and you got to tell me what phone it was what phone it came from and uh I really wish I could use the buzzer's phone or what company company okay oh so we're still writing them yes yeah as an example, if I were to play this, you would all know that is, oh, with a ball! No idea what that's from. Wait, none of you know what that's from? It's, I picked that as the obvious one. Are you serious?
Starting point is 01:08:39 You guys know what that's from, right? It's my dad's ringtone, has been for 20 years. That's on a phone? But on what? Oh, boy. Sony Erickson or something? What? What?
Starting point is 01:08:49 Guys, that shift with the original I guess. with the original iPhone and has been on every single iPhone since. But it's not the default. It might be the default. It's not alarm. That's like, no, it's not. That's like, oh, yeah, Marimbo is the default. That is like one of the most iconic iPhone ringtones of them all.
Starting point is 01:09:04 Big to differ. I've heard it before. Twitter. Now is your chance to tell Marquez Brownlee he's wrong about the iPhone. I think they're going to yell you. There's some, there's some iconic, I don't know if that one's all right. All right, well, let's see. Well, then maybe this is audio round is going to fall so flat because no.
Starting point is 01:09:20 have you ever heard any of these before let's see you guys know this one i had this on one of my phones i haven't heard it but i could guess that also sounds like a sidekick or something of like the 2000s like the company uh the i would say let's say the platform can you do it again so if you say android i'm going to assume you mean you mean a osp as opposed to one ui or or touch whiz or any of these other things. Oh, it's definitely not AOSP. All right, one more time. That's a different one.
Starting point is 01:09:59 I don't even remember which one I did. Was it this one? Are we guessing this one? Yeah. What do we got? Oh, I just, ooh. Hey, stop the clock. Well, I've said my...
Starting point is 01:10:13 What do we got? Motorola. I wrote H-G-C. You're both wrong. Oh, that was an AOSP one. You all got it wrong. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:21 Weird. That's in every Android phone? Yeah, up to a certain point. If you look hard enough. All right, what about this one? Mm. Ooh, I feel that. Oh, man.
Starting point is 01:10:38 It sounds like a Volsteck song. Yeah. Okay. No clue where it's from, but it sounds cool. Oh, it seems like people are. Ready? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:52 What do you got? Or a Motorola. Oh, wait. Motorola is wrong. Or Apple. Apple is wrong. I wrote Sony. All right.
Starting point is 01:11:03 This is not going well, you guys. We don't really listen to every ringtone. Yeah, I don't know about you. This is tough. Were you never children? Well, sure. Yeah, but I don't have a phone. Okay, but if I play this one, you'll all recognize this, right?
Starting point is 01:11:20 Holy shit. Their phones have been on silent for years. You don't understand. I care about other people. All right, well, I'm just going to take you through a bunch of my favorites then. This one's from the LG Wing. This is? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:11:36 That's cool. Wow. This fell totally flat on. My LG wing was never a lot on. There's one I can remember within the last 10 years, and that's the one, Asus one that sounds like... Like under the seat? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:11:48 My friend's brother makes all the ring tones for the pixel oh that's Samsung every time that's Samsung yeah because Samsung is over the horizon a remix of the same song over and over okay here's a wacky one people hated this sound so much that when you search when you just try to find like insert phone insert this is the camera shutter sound effect insert phone camera setter sound effect you can't find anyone posting the sound effect by itself it's just people being like how do I turn this off oh I've heard that that's an Android, that's an AOSP sound.
Starting point is 01:12:21 That is not an AOSP sound. I had that on my Android tablet. It was a Motorola tablet. This is early Android. I'm going to assume it's Apple because you're saying there's no chance that's happening. It's not early Android. It's not. But it is an Android-based platform.
Starting point is 01:12:36 Play it again? I'll give you a hint. It's the one people are always wanting us to talk about. Now it makes me want to search the one that I think it is. Let's see what that sounds like. Is this for points? Are we doing this for points? It's worth 35 points.
Starting point is 01:12:49 No, you can't do that. It is. 35. Do that to me. I'm playing a sound effect. I'm a different sound effect. Always want us to talk about it. Does anyone else have answers?
Starting point is 01:12:59 I have an answer. All right, let's see it. Sony. Oh. Sony's correct. That is really Experia. Marquez, what did you put? I didn't know what it was.
Starting point is 01:13:08 Oh, fuck. David runs away with it. I've ruined the game. I've ruined my precious game. I think we've got to do one more section. Is there a speed round we could do? All right. So we're cut into audio rounds.
Starting point is 01:13:21 None of us know what the hell ringtones are on our phones because you all keep them on silent. You're welcome. Next one we're doing, it's all in a name. This was Ellis's idea. Where do tech companies get their names from? We're going to read you the story of how a company got its name and you need to pick what the company is. Okay. This is a buzzer round.
Starting point is 01:13:42 So get the buzzers ready. Okay. All right. And everything's worth 20 points? Remember, once you buzz in, you will have, I forget if it's five or ten seconds, but you got to get that thing out. What? Yo, Marquez, get that thing out. Keep that bang on me.
Starting point is 01:14:04 All right. And you stop the question when we buzz, right? Yeah, I will stop reading. Yeah, yeah. Perfect. All right, the first one. This company named itself because it works in Fox-like Speed. Foxcon.
Starting point is 01:14:18 Correct. That was that in a buck. 20 points. Oh, but that was Firefox. Next. This company is named after its founder, who has the first name of Michael and currently sits at number 11.
Starting point is 01:14:30 Oh, Marquez. Wait, Jordan. I thought that was. What? It's not a tech company. Dell. 20 points for Marquette. I mean, for Marquez.
Starting point is 01:14:41 For David. These are only tech companies, I should have thought of that. Yeah, these are all tech companies. Michael Jordan. This company's name comes from a specific story in Arabian Nights, the same story where the phrase Open Sesame comes from. And apparently, the founder found that, A, it was easy to pronounce all over the world,
Starting point is 01:15:00 and B, that everyone knew the story. That's why they called it that. I don't know it. As we all say here, blank-faced. All right, the founder, Jack Ma. Marquette. Alibaba. There it is.
Starting point is 01:15:10 Nice. 20 points for Marquette. That is easy to say. Yeah, see. this company got its name from the game go and has a similar meaning to when you say go pro no so now david you cannot say i can no you cannot was that right in was that this is now between marquez and andrew so i'm going to start over the company name actually comes from the game go has a similar meaning to when you say check and chess according to the wiki of terms in the game
Starting point is 01:15:39 go its first game pong was released in 19th atari atari 20 points for Andrew. I'm not old enough. I wasn't either. Wow. You guys are old. The idea for this company initially came about because one of its founders
Starting point is 01:15:57 forgot his USB drive at home for his work assignment and university. According to Rewind and Capture.com, this company got its name because it created a virtual space where users could store files in. Dropbox. Dropbox.
Starting point is 01:16:12 20 points. Good one. One of the co-founders named this company by deriving it from the phrase, quote, searchable log of all conversation and knowledge, end quote. Replacing the previous code name, line feed. That's what the, are you serious? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:28 He's backern him his way into this, baby. Can you say it again? Searchable log of all conversation and knowledge. Slack. Slack. 20 points for David. That's cool. Wow, David's running away with this.
Starting point is 01:16:42 All right. Original name was Cadabra. Also, Marquez. It's Cadabra. Cadabra. Al-Qazam. Google. Ah, nope.
Starting point is 01:16:55 So now this is between Andrew and David. All right. Bald. Original name was Cadabra? Cadabra. Also shares a name with a world famous river. Bald. Wait, sorry.
Starting point is 01:17:09 That's easy. Bald? Don't let him distract you. World famous river. Come on. Come on. What? No.
Starting point is 01:17:18 River. Andrew. This is all on you. I'm going to keep reading. No. Bald. Rivian. No.
Starting point is 01:17:27 Can I buzz now? Yeah, this is just free fall. Go. Amazon. Money points. Bald? Why do you say bald? He doesn't know.
Starting point is 01:17:37 He's not the CEO. It's Jesse. Well, now. Yeah. Yeah, let's honor. Next question. Found it as. chemical industrial core
Starting point is 01:17:46 in English, pronounced similar to Lucky, with a sister company called Gold Star that produced plastics. Eventually... Samsung? Nope. Who was that? Oh, that was just the wrong.
Starting point is 01:17:58 Okay. Eventually, the two merged into Lucky Gold Star. LG, 20 points. Oh, am I dumb? Next. The company name of Blank was created by combining two words of sonis and sunny.
Starting point is 01:18:16 The word sonis in Latin represents words like sound and son. Sonos. No. Close. I was thinking that too, actually. It's sonus. Oh, sonis. Okay.
Starting point is 01:18:28 The word sonis in Latin represents words like sound and sonic. The other word sunny means little sun. Used in combination, Blank is supposed to represent a very small group of young people who have the energy and passion towards unlimited creations
Starting point is 01:18:41 and innovative ideas. That comes from their corporate history website What? I couldn't even begin Wow Say again Zoroushi What
Starting point is 01:18:51 What I know? G E Samsung? No Sony I was gonna reread it Just sonous and sunny Last one
Starting point is 01:19:03 Worth What am I feeling What am I feeling Let me check this floor real quick Checks notes This is so bowl of f*** Man Last question for 50 points.
Starting point is 01:19:15 That's what my scorekeeper told me didn't put it. 50 points. 50 points. Oh gosh. Original name of this company was quote, legend, end quote. And was founded in Beijing in 1984. But in the States, there were already trademarks for legend. So they've rebranded to new legend, or as we know them, blank.
Starting point is 01:19:36 The lay coming from legend and the blank coming from Latin. The lay coming for legend That should have been a hint Chinese The Latin word was new New Legend No
Starting point is 01:19:56 No new legend New legend First part lay Second part blank No Me We're thinking like Legion Lanova?
Starting point is 01:20:12 Oh, is it that? What? This is still a buzzer round, so if anyone wants to trust their buzzers. Lenovo? That was Andrew? Yeah. Correct! Didn't you say that?
Starting point is 01:20:22 Yeah, I was... 50 points to Andrew. I was like, that's the only thing that makes sense, but... Lainovo? I wasn't sure if novo was actually... Leanovo. Latin. Legend.
Starting point is 01:20:33 Gentlemen, thank you for playing a fantastic game. Unfortunately, we are all out of questions, all out of energy. I'm hungry, I'm sweaty, I'm tired. David has to get on a flight, which means we can finally announce our winners. In third place, with 268 points. In third? In third place, with 2068 points of the most ever scored in a game
Starting point is 01:20:54 of waveform trivia extravaganza, we have Andrew Mangonelli. Topping him with the most points ever scored in a waveform trivia extravaganza. In second place, Big Hoss himself, the man of the hour, Mark has Brownlee with 269 points
Starting point is 01:21:13 beating out Andrew by one I mean I took his answer so wow which means but now oh my god for his first is it really happening
Starting point is 01:21:24 there's actually someone remote playing and they beat you oh shoot I ran out of music just turn the robot voice back on here we go David imbi
Starting point is 01:21:39 Thank you. Yeah. Thank you. Wait, how many points do I have? Oh, that's taken right from my desk, too. Oh, you didn't even print a new one? No, it's like the Stanley talks. It still says shut up Ellis on it.
Starting point is 01:22:01 Yeah. It's nice because I still need to shut up. How many points do I get? You got 357. points. Correct me if I'm right. That's the most ever scored. That is the most ever making David the Wayne Gretzky
Starting point is 01:22:17 of Podman's cup holders. Does that make sense? Did he do that? Is that the hockey guy, right? Well, I'm asking Andrew. Did I do that right? The most points ever? I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. David, you're the Dave
Starting point is 01:22:29 Gretzky. The Dave Emetsky. Can I have a speech? Sure. A few words, David. It might have taken me four seasons, just like the hotel Hell Chain. But I knew that eventually this tower would crumble for the rest of them. And something would rise from the ashes. Waiting for someone in the comments to be like, you calculated wrong. But you know we have to say to that, thanks. Too bad. Thanks for coming to this trivia
Starting point is 01:23:00 extraama. We will see you next time. I am your host Ellis. This has been Adam, Alex, David, Andrew Marquez. Waveovers produced by Adam Alina and Ellis Robben. And this time, Alex Wolfe is also behind the board. We'll see it. Oh, Vain, Sealed, did some stuff in Vox Media Podcast Network.
Starting point is 01:23:16 We'll see you next time. Can you play the robot voice again?
