Starting point is 00:01:50 It is noon 0.1 p.m. on Monday, June the 15th. Thank you, Steve Sadek. Every once in a while, you know, technical blips happen. This time I'll say, drunk on the air, still drunk from Saturday night. Nick's winning. Hey. Get right into it. My God.
Starting point is 00:02:06 Just what a feeling. It was amazing when I went to see Disclosure Day yesterday at Regal Union Square, 14th Street and Broadway-ish. Some might say the heart of the city. They were playing in, what I will say, if you ever go to Regal Union Square, really nice theater. I saw Disclosure Day in 70mm,
Starting point is 00:02:27 the worst concession experience in this great city. It's always bad. It's always bad. Let's do the play-by-play. You walk up there. Excuse me. Go ahead. Take it.
Starting point is 00:02:37 No, no. The line is just forever. It takes fucking forever for anybody. but what is worth remarking, vis-to-vis the Knicks, they're playing on loop, New York, New York, New York State of Mind,
Starting point is 00:02:52 and we are the champions over and over again. Which is so bizarre that it's like, I love it, but it's just so weird. Like, no one, I feel like no other team winning would elicit that kind of vibe shift in New York. No, it's kind of what I'm kidding. I can't imagine. Right, if the Yankees had won or something, the World Series.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Yeah, I just. I feel like it wouldn't be whatever that is. Because it's been so long since the last one. And you should be loving. You should be singing along with Frank Sinatra. I was having a good time the first 10 minutes. And then in the next one, I'm like, am I going to miss my movie?
Starting point is 00:03:22 Which is always the question when you're at the Regal Union Square. Am I going to miss my movie? Well, that theater is the classic case of we're a two-level theater. And like 80% of the time, we're just using the downstairs concessant stand. So if your auditorium is upstairs, you can go fuck yourself since Regal Union Square. And the next thing, to me, seems much more.
Starting point is 00:03:41 of like a Jerry situation. You've been in the fucking desert for so long. And you've just been waiting to crack fucking San Antonio's skull open the whole fucking time. And then finally you get to it. And then yes, now the power, it feels right. I will listen to Frank Sinatra over and over again for the Knicks.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Yes, I agree. It was such an excruciating experience. But super fun, super fun, man. I have to say, I was going to see Disclosure Day yesterday. It was a little earlier in the morning. and I was walking up Broadway sort of on the Upper West Side and it was the exact feeling
Starting point is 00:04:15 of New Year's Day if you ever walk around the city in New Year's Day and it's like a cleansing fire has raged through the town and now it's like calm and even the humidity was cut like it was it was really something man
Starting point is 00:04:31 that's I will say the one thing that Spielberg couldn't really do like the videos and the images that were coming out from New York City from post win. Nothing could beat it. No, no movie this weekend. No, those images, those, that video. Ben Stiller on the fucking court with his little fucking phone doing his little images. I thought it was fantastic. That was really the movie of the weekend for me. Oh, yes. I wasn't, no, I went down there not to celebrate, but to set a school bus on fire
Starting point is 00:05:00 in Times Square. And then everyone was cheering around me. So it covered my tracks. Thank God. Yeah, that's what you would like to do in general. Unfortunately, it wasn't full of children. No, the usual move. I thought it was, yeah. He was having his Joker Sunday. What is he in the, the Zodiac movie that Eastwood did?
Starting point is 00:05:21 The first dirty Harry, is he the Capricorn Man or whatever? Scorpio. The Scorpio. That's kind of Eric's move. Yeah, yeah. Very influence from that film, yeah. Oh, man, but yeah. Speaking of nobody paying attention to the movies
Starting point is 00:05:34 because of what was going on with basketball and, of course, the World Cup. interesting bit of box office will take a look at it. This is highest gross. All right. So it wasn't like a total dead-eyed affair at the box office.
Starting point is 00:05:58 It was diverse and interesting and clearly affected by major sporting events. We get into it here. Something we'll be talking about just a little bit, but in its second weekend, Masters of the Universe, which I said on Letterbox,
Starting point is 00:06:13 I think one of the longest toy commercials of all time. Yes. For sure. 2.18 or whatever it was. We'll get into it. But here it's a, yeah. This is a disaster right? This 8.7 million. Is that where we're at? It ain't great because that represents a 71% fall from its not great opening weekend.
Starting point is 00:06:30 So, yeah. Unfortunately, Mattel, this is not the Barbie you were looking for. Stop printing the plastic toys now if you haven't put them all into productions. Cut back on them. Yeah, 71% drop, which is not great. Around the world, including the United States,
Starting point is 00:06:46 it's $86 million. Well, we're going to learn one of these days that putting Jared Leto in your movie does not pay off. Really, one of these days, we're going to know it. But it's not, wasn't this weekend, wasn't last weekend either. I do think at this, in this one instant, Lido Innocent, you know what I mean? He's kind of one of the better parts of the movie. Yep. For what it is, but, you know.
Starting point is 00:07:07 I didn't like twice. We'll get into it. But I, I, I wasn't crazy about the vocal work. Chris much preferred the vocal work of the. the pirate puppet and backroom. Yeah. Yeah. This motherfucker, man.
Starting point is 00:07:22 Number four at the box office, week three, 11.2 million. We are up to around the world. This country included $262 million on a $10 million. Oh, yes, Kill him, Kane. You got it. Kill him, Kane? Is that what you said? Yeah, come.
Starting point is 00:07:41 The fuck, you did it. Good job, buddy. Every time I see that poster, it gets steamier and steamier. It just, it looks like the infomaniac poster. It really does. Paint it. Paint my back rooms. That puppet's really good.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Showing her the business thing. Did you find Jamie Bell in the backrooms? It was a real, real fucking hook hand on that pirate, if you know what I mean. Yeah, I'm very excited to see what this dude is forced to do as far as his backroom saga. Like, it's got to be another movie, right? Backrooms, too. Yeah. We're definitely going to backrooms.
Starting point is 00:08:16 but right now he's sitting down. I mean, like now maybe Mattel doesn't have much as a room. They're showing him the carousel. It's like, I don't know, we might have, we tried, we might do a new Aquaman. You want to try the newer Aquaman? There could be a different Aquaman. I think we're going to reboot Masters of the Universe soon, which you like to do that. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Yeah, that's a turnaround at the moment. Sure. We've got a Sanford and Sun. Is that something you're kind of, that's a title we have here? What if it's Sanford and Sun, but he's a, uh, uh, sun is getting over. emotional trauma and he something something
Starting point is 00:08:49 well I think is Kane Parsons the guy or is it Mr. Obsession one of them was like I'll never yeah Curry Barker one of them was like
Starting point is 00:08:57 I'll never do a franchise thing which it's like you say that now with your tiny little YouTube movies but the second a fucking dump truck
Starting point is 00:09:04 beeps its horn outside your house and it's filled with money and not garbage I don't know I feel like yeah that's probably
Starting point is 00:09:10 a better if I was your accountant dude I'm like let's do one let's try one yeah but I mean like work like that, you can always just do commercials.
Starting point is 00:09:19 If you are really about that stuff, like, I mean, I think about Buzolski. I think about all those guys who just never went that way. And they did figure out a career. It's just not a, whoa, career. Also, though, I'm not opposed to either of them, like, doing a franchise thing, but you cannot go. Like, we have to fix the pipeline because we cannot go from,
Starting point is 00:09:39 you made rinky dink backrooms to you get a marble thing or something. You don't know. Like, you need pictures in between. between that. Right. So that's... To Chris's point, some maybe pharmaceutical commercials. Oh, sure. The back. Backrooms is very haunting in the weird nether space like those commercials
Starting point is 00:09:56 are. It must have been Cain because I've been reminded, Curry Barker is doing the next Texas chainsaw. Oh, that's right. Mm-hmm. Okay. I'm excited for that. Yeah. But that's like, I mean, that's like a franchise. I mean, like a franchise.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Okay. It would be kind of great if we did, it's Texas Chainsaw. And it's some, because he, I think someone, he had even maybe intimated this that he might do more stuff in the obsession universe, the one wish willow universe. And you could do the Texas chainsaw. It's, it's, it's, a, a leatherface gets one. And he just wishes for a truckload of kids to murder. He's like, you know, I'm just so lonely right now. If only, they're like, oh my God, my wish came true. My wish came true. Then it just cuts to that school bus scene from that abysmal 2018 Texas chainsaw. It's the only good part of that movie. I do hope there is never an obsession. sequel because one wish willow you get one like i'm not going to buy into the reality of that world continuing that right yeah i agree unless you did like uh it's it becomes more of like a wish master situation the one wish willow is the thing and it's like a hollewan thing where it's like some dude makes another wish or some lady makes another wish or whatever and it's like a completely different story and it's not like love and upset you know what i mean yes it would have to be
Starting point is 00:11:13 drastically different well not romantic at all like maybe you take the money one that the kid makes. I wish I'd a billion dollars. Take that to its natural evil conclusion kind of thing. Yeah. Something like that. Yeah. I would be into a sequel that does what happens to Indyneverett's character after this.
Starting point is 00:11:31 And it's just on her. That would be an interesting way to do this, but I don't think they would be doing that. I don't think that was right. I just hope it's like a lot of large sweaters and nice cups of tea and very calm therapists walking her through it. That's the sequel that I would like. I'd be into that. I mean, I guess I would be too
Starting point is 00:11:48 because that was my biggest complaint about the movie was I didn't think there was enough interiority with her which I guess you could argue that's maybe kind of the point of it but yeah so the sequel sets all that up sure why not speaking of evil goals and getting to the end of them scary movies back in theaters I heard that that's the most offensive movie ever made I heard every line will be crossed
Starting point is 00:12:11 that's what I heard except the box office finish line because here we are in week two. This is worse than the Masters of the Universe plunge. This represents a 73% drop from opening weekend. We're looking at just 14.5 with 173 million around the globe, U.S. included. Yeah, I don't know if you're going to be seeing your fucking disaster movie and epic movie. I don't know that the movie versus getting cracked open thanks to this. Everyone who wanted to see this saw it opening weekend.
Starting point is 00:12:43 That's what that number means. The people that were dragged to it didn't like it, and the word of mouth is probably pretty negative, I'm guessing. It's not a rewatcher. I mean, the first one was because it was so new and it felt new. But, like, this is not one. I mean, I've seen half of this movie, and it's horrendous. And I just, I can't imagine, even if you're, if this is for you and this is the kind of humor you're after,
Starting point is 00:13:07 I can't imagine going back to this and getting much from it. I really, it does click to me. Yeah. I've never liked any of these. movies. So this one didn't seem like where I wanted to start. The trailer did not exactly wet my appetite to make me want to see it. And everything I've heard is like, yeah, it's okay.
Starting point is 00:13:24 And I'm, you know, good for Anna Ferris. You know what I think she's a great actress. I think she's really funny. And I like the wayans in sort of a, I guess just like the way in general. Like, you know what I mean? Like the idea of the Wayans brothers. Exactly. I didn't like him, but I liked the idea of Marlon Wayans getting a great role.
Starting point is 00:13:43 You know what I mean? Like that kind of a thing. Chris, did you get to any of the unearthing of the wazade joke? Oh, my God. Yeah, it just, no, no, thank you. Just stop. I, like, and even, like, you sit there and, like, when they get to the, like, very obviously offensive stuff, like, not, you can tell they're just, like, soft peddling it.
Starting point is 00:14:04 They're not, like, they don't go full hog on it, which is what I was expecting, at least a little bit. And that almost to me is, like, why bother then? If you're going to do shit like that, like, I just do it. But like, it's so, like, clear that they know, like, we could get in trouble. Right. You're just like, fuck, fuck you. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:14:23 Which, you know, it's funny because it's like, you know, okay, it's fine to pull punches and rethink things. That's probably the better move. But you then can't also advertise it as like every line will be crossed. That's just the point. My God. Well, they want to, you know, get all the huge, you know, tires fans and Shane Gillis fans and Tony Hinchcliff fans and that's never I've never understood the instinct of comedy to be offensive for offensive sake like if you really have a view that is offensive in these days that you believe in and that you think
Starting point is 00:14:58 there's comedy to be mine not just for making fun of people or whatever like this is a funny idea that I have that's great but just to say like I'm going to make I'm going to make this offensive joke and then followed by this offensive thing and like I'm going to push all the buttons just to push the buttons. That's not where that tradition comes from. Free speech. That's true. But also like so many of those buttons you're pushing have a fucking noticeable
Starting point is 00:15:22 layer of dust on them. Like I have not seen the movie, but that they, them pronouns joke in that trailer, I'm like, oh my God, did anybody have a fucking asthma attack after all the dust that came off that joke? That is a 10 year old joke at this point.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Seriously, that joke is getting ready to get its fucking learner's permit. It lives on memes on Facebook at this point and that's where for boomers on Facebook they could enjoy that that's where they should be enjoying that Yeah, that's where you go enjoy your swamp comedy Like you know, come on Speaking of a much better movie
Starting point is 00:15:56 We've already been talking about it of course with obsessions Crazy fucking number two At the box office with another 26.5 million dollars Now what are we looking at here? That is okay It's only a 25% drop from its previous week. And it has outgrossed
Starting point is 00:16:16 its opening weekend in its fifth week. That's pretty amazing. That's great. I still love this movie. I'm a big big fan of this movie. I think that she's so good. He's so good. I love the direction and everything. So I'm really excited for whatever this story to me is great. Like, you know what I mean? Like,
Starting point is 00:16:34 such a small thing. And I think obviously there's a little bit of, in a good way, I think probably what it's doing is it's like it's getting couples. to the theater. You know what I mean? It's a date movie kind of a thing. I saw it on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Starting point is 00:16:48 And it was almost sold out. It was full of young couples. And I'm like the weird old guy in the back. Oh, hell yeah. I'm ready to get obsessed with you, sweeties. You got to whet it? You got to, you got to keep her, buddy. Just start telling that to people.
Starting point is 00:17:06 That's gross. They should blow on it and not break it. It's a whistle, one whistle, willow or whatever. Hey, buddy, don't slip up. She's a keeper. Thinking of a keeper, Indy Navarette, I just, that, that is to me, the whole movie is her. Like, I was just stunned by her performance. And I cannot wait to see what she does next.
Starting point is 00:17:27 And it's great. She was like a TV actress. I mean on that Lois and Clark show, apparently. She was a big deal. I never watched a second of it. No shade on any of it. But it's just amazing that, like, she's just, is this huge break. Not Lois and Clark.
Starting point is 00:17:40 Lois and Superman or Superman? Superman and Lois. I was like, dude, I'm pretty sure that movie was off the air, or that show was off the air for 20 years before that girl was born. Yes, exactly. Dean had nothing to do with this girl's rise to stard. I watched the pilot of that Superman and Lois, and I have to say, I thought it was pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:17:58 It's a pretty interesting idea for a Superman retelling. My brother, who's a big Superman guy, really loved that show. He was always like, you should watch it. You should watch it. I never got into it. I never even tried, which I probably should. The guy who plays Superman from Everybody Wants Some. I forget his name.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I think he's great as Superman. I'm not crazy about the show, but he is, I think, really good. Yeah. And right now, it does have a few weeks on Backrooms, but as far as the global take, Obsessions 286 Mill to Backrooms, 262 Mill. So we'll see if Backrooms has the legs to keep going to chase obsession. This is an incredible story for, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:18:38 For the box office, we've been decrying the end of the box office. maybe people want stuff that they've not seen before a million fucking times. It's possible. I'm very happy people are getting out of the house and doing something. You know, the pandemic lockdown was so long ago, like, what, like six years? These kids are now grown up and they want to leave the house, which is great. Exactly. They're tired of hanging out having their parents be their best friend.
Starting point is 00:19:01 Exactly. Oh, no, thank you. Speaking of other stuff, we were getting out to, of course, number one at the box office, Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day in its first week. weekend here. We're talking 44 million. So right around what it was predicted, which is not too bad. Pretty okay there. We're looking at 93 mil global on 115 mil budget. So, you know, we'll see what happens. But decent showing. And it's not a total tank. I saw the number, the Friday night numbers, for whatever reason, were hyper low. And I think that is, that's basketball. That's the World
Starting point is 00:19:37 Cup going on. You know what I mean? Because the headline, it was something like, 12 million dollars or something like that on the Friday and I was like good god that's low my Sunday screening was pretty packed you know yeah great you know it was a big audience that was reacting in big ways to it I we'll talk about the movie but yeah totally uh and then something a little elsewhere not in a limited release but just a little farther down the line uh of course here was something that we wanted to highlight because it was something that we'd actually reported on way back from uh Toronto last year but the furority is out now in kind of a small release here.
Starting point is 00:20:14 And we're looking at a little nice number, 2.8 million on 1250 screens, so 1,250 screens. So 220,000 per, not too shabby for this movie. Chris Cabin, take it away. I mean, if you have the time, make the time to see this movie. The feeling that so many people were talking about
Starting point is 00:20:34 with Disclosure Day of feeling like you're back at the movies. I'm like, oh, my God, I'm like levitating. because I'm so excited by this movie. That's this movie for me. This movie is so fucking good and so well choreographed. And not in a way where you're just like, oh, you're watching the choreography all the time. It does pull you in.
Starting point is 00:20:54 I do think it has a heart to it. But like the fight scenes in this movie are not to be believed. And it's so consistent and like moves at such a pace. I, if it takes like 30 minutes, even 45 minutes to get to a theater that has it, pay the gas money. I swear it's worth it. It's like, I've not been like this with one of these kinds of movies in a long time. Nice.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Wow. Gas money recommendation in this economy, ladies and gentlemen. Can I pay ass or grass to get to the theater? For you and you only, Eric. I love it. Eric always chooses ass. I know. Just like, you know, just every time.
Starting point is 00:21:36 He loves that ass. But, yeah, so you'll pay. you know, ticket prices, concession prices, and then also $120 on gasoline to get to and from the theater. And Chris Cabin is saying it is worth the expense. Absolutely. It's like fucking World Cup tickets at this point. That's awesome, though, dude.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Yeah, I tried to get to it this weekend as well. My screening schedule got messed up because I got screwed over Friday night trying to see Disclosure Day because the theater fucking blew all its electricity because of the air conditioning. Oh, geez. So there was no movies on the Upper West Side that night. That's insane. Big color, bigger savings.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Sherwin Williams Super Sale is here. Get 40% off paints and stains June 5th through the 11th, with prices starting at 3089. Whether you're refreshing your interior or exterior, we've got the colors to bring your vision to life. And with delivery, getting everything to your door is easier than ever. Shop online to have it delivered or visit your neighborhood Sherwin-William store. Click the banner to learn more.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Retail sales only, some exclusions apply. See Store for Details. Delivery available on qualifying orders. But yeah, so there you go. There's some box office for you. A lot of fun. It's just fun being back to the movies. And it's going to be fun for us.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Finally, as a show, some of us have been out there for personal. All of us have been out there personally. But as a show, you guys, hitting up Las Vegas this summer for STLV. What are we doing, Steve? I'm so excited on Thursday, August the 6th. We're going to start a three-night run of shows all about great Star Trek movies, all at the biggest Star Trek convention, celebrating 60 years of Star Trek. We're celebrating 10 years of the Nexus.
Starting point is 00:23:20 And, and, and, you do not need to go to the convention to see these shows. You can just be in the Las Vegas area, getting sucked off or whatever it is. Or whatever it is. Or whatever is. You're sucking off. It's fine. August the 6th, we will be talking about Star Trek. too, the wrath of Khan,
Starting point is 00:23:40 Ricardo Mantelbaum. From hell's heart, I stab at thee. That's gonna be so much fun. What are we doing the next night, Eric? The next night we're doing Star Trek Generations. That's the famous passing of the torch movie, right? Where Shatner ends up dead in a pile of rocks.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Yeah, passing of the torch and passing of the Kirk. So that's good to be a lot of fun to discuss his demise. And perhaps amongst Star Trek fans, maybe some of these people that come aren't going to be really well-known they don't know the show so well this would be this could be very interesting shows to see is what I'm trying to get.
Starting point is 00:24:16 I agree with that out. You never know what's going to happen at a Wii A movie show. And we want you guys who are the real feds, the friends, to like cheer us on. You know what I mean? We want to pack this away game like the fucking Nick's did for the Spurs. You know what I mean? We want Shalamey there. We want Ben Stiller there if they're listening.
Starting point is 00:24:34 Exactly. Because you guys need to like hold back the guys. guys, cosplaying as Borgs that are going to try to fight us during these shows. Exactly. And speaking of Borgs, Chris, what is that last movie we're doing down there? Oh, on the 8th, we're going to be doing first contact, which is, uh, my, I think my favorite Star Trek movie. Nice.
Starting point is 00:24:52 I think that's a really reasonable opinion. It might be mine as well, because I'm an next-gen guy and I just fucking love that movie. James Cromwell with that hat. Oh, dude, Cromwell just loving fucking listening to Roy Orbison getting drunk out of his mind in that movie. A little drinking hat. You're right. So good.
Starting point is 00:25:09 We should see if we can find some little drinking hats for ourselves to bring it on stage. Because it is Las Vegas, dude. Anything goes. That's right. It's kind of a jughead hat, you know what I mean? A little bit. Oh, that, yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:22 Because it's like the little like metal bits on it. I don't even know what you would call it, but that's jughead kind of had. Yeah. It's an old man hat that you'd somehow buy it a hot topic if that makes sense. Yeah, right. I think that might be the way to go. But yeah, folks. Like Steve said, you do not need an expensive convention pass or to be part of the convention at all to see these shows.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Separately ticketed events. Of course, if you do have a pass, come on over. Experience the Nexus and we hate movies, man. You might not know us, but it's going to be a lot of fun. Head over to our website, WHMpodcast.com for more ticketing information. It's all there. We want to see you this August, folks. Let's go have some fun in the desert.
Starting point is 00:25:58 All right, a couple of things on screen for us to review, both the big screen and the slightly less big screens of our televisions. but first up, yeah, let's get into it. It's been out, and I think we were sort of generally, I wouldn't say pleasantly surprised, but just surprised about Masters of the Universe. Yeah, it's like, obviously the, the Dictat was Barbie, the Dick Tattoo was, I'm sure somebody is a human dick tattoo. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:26:28 On Vegas, come to the shows. Was Barbie was this big genre defying, comedy that like had a lot of fun with the property like you know like and that's a great idea like for the barbie movie like figuring out how the universe works and all that stuff and going full bore comedy yeah and clearly that was part of it but then they're like but mass of the universe has to be this action thing there's going to be so many people there that care about the lore and how the characters look and he just kind of splits the baby a little bit in a way that I find annoying in both ways because I think this movie looks really good.
Starting point is 00:27:04 The action stuff really works. And sometimes when the comedy is making fun of He-Man, those work too. But both of those kind of volleying back and forth just leads to a very unsatisfying experience as a movie ultimately. Yeah, I agree with the jumping on both sides of the fence thing. And it does get distracting. You know, the making fun of the property is kind of what a lot of the best comedy and Barbie turned into also.
Starting point is 00:27:30 So that's like it was right there. It was proven that it was proven that it. worked and it did have me laugh a man I have to say I never thought I would say this but I mean I did agree Leto Innocent he had me laughing as this Skeletor I didn't mind the voice as much because like
Starting point is 00:27:44 it's a feature film I just don't think you're going to be allowed to do that voice for a whole like feature length motion picture although on that same note like I did also kind of feel like I was sort of asking where Skeletor a little bit in the movie which again genuinely surprised I was asking for more Jared Letto in the motion
Starting point is 00:28:02 Was that voice modulated at all? That's a great question. I was like, is it? I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, I think there's a little something to it. I was shocked that it was, you know, it was little letto, little leto because like I thought we were to have him take his mask off and he's going to be walking around or something, you know, because this guy's goddamn everywhere. That's true.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Please go ahead. Oh, I was just going to say the commitment to he's just Skeletor and it's just going to keep looking like that. the whole time. Which I was happy with. Yeah, totally. Sorry, Chris, go ahead. No, no. That's, I, I like this movie. I think it's a lot of fun. But, like, I did kind of, I was wondering what, what is Skeletor doing? It feels like every time he comes, it's just for the line. It's just for like, here's a funny line from Skeletor and he doesn't really have much to him in general. Also, I am switching over computers today. So sorry about me freezing and all this shit. I didn't know it was going to happen so early. But I, I, I, I, I, I am switching over computers today. I, I,
Starting point is 00:29:02 I found myself like, A, way too much lead up. I think the opening, I'm like, this is not the Matrix. You do not have to pretend like this is the Matrix. It's just I want to be in the world that you created. Just take me there. It's fine. Just start there. And I think a lot of the jokes wind up being, so that happened the kind of jokes,
Starting point is 00:29:23 like awkward, like that stuff hits like a fucking rock. Like the actual funny parts like that are actually like well observed Heeman jokes. I enjoyed. See, I think you're right there, because I think part of the problem with this, and especially in terms of marketing, is it feels like a Marvel movie or a Marvelization movie, and it looks like Thor, and all those movies were terrible. Sorry. Idris Elbow, who's in both Thor movies and this.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Right, and it's just like, didn't I see this? I think that's really part of the problem is I look at the trailer, and I'm like, this could have come out any year in the 2010s. And I would have been like, yep, that's your movie. because we were I mean we were definitely loving also in the 2010s the brief revival of sword and sandal shit with this which this kind of is part of H-Man is sort and sorcery kind of stuff and that was like you know we saw like those two clash of the titans came out in the those aughts and everything so yeah definite vibes of that stuff it's very watchable down the middle I thought it was kind of fine I didn't really have huge opinions on this either way I think it's better than the 80s one sorry Dahlf. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Speaking of Dolf, it's not a, it's not a cameo, but Steve, you brought it up, so I think you got to take the ball with this. It is one of the worst cameos
Starting point is 00:30:38 in the movie. It takes you right out of it. It's part of the beginning, which is too long, because I mean, look, Atonia, surprisingly, is really fun in this movie.
Starting point is 00:30:48 And I'm like, it's really fun to look at. It's really fun to be in. And anytime you're on Earth, you're kind of like, get me the fuck out of here. And it's Dahl Fungertan and it's really, like,
Starting point is 00:30:57 it's, you know what it reminds me? if you remember the movie of the rundown when Arnold is in it and he goes, he looks at the camera and goes, have fun. That's kind of what this is. I feel like he even saw that and was like, oh, I'll just do that way. That's the problem.
Starting point is 00:31:15 I just was like, A, nobody thinks of Dolph that way, like the way that people think about Sly and Schwarzenegger, I think can both pull that off better. But like, you can also tell like he just doesn't, he doesn't care about that. this shit. And like, right. Like if you watched Electric Bugaloo, you know
Starting point is 00:31:32 he fucking hates this movie and fucking doesn't have anything to do with it. Right. And now in the cartoon, they never go to Earth all the time, right? It's because they have a complete lack of they don't believe in their own product. They don't believe in the universe of master the universe. They have to,
Starting point is 00:31:47 each movie has to be Earth set for part of it to draw you the audience in because they know this is all cockamini bullshit, right? And because that's the weird part. Like the movie starts. I watch it for the show, you know what I mean? But I was like, I'll watch it. You know what I mean? Whatever. I thought the trailer looked terrible. I was surprised at the movie was in the beginning. It kind of got me going when we're running around the palace intrigue, although I'd never need to see anyone as a child. I hate it. I still hate it. I
Starting point is 00:32:14 hate it here. But like, and then when we go to Earth for a long time, I'm like, shit. Oh, man. And I mean, like, even Beast Man looks cool. Like that sequence is neat. That's not bad. Yeah. Yeah. I just, I feel like Travis Knight probably wanted to make a sincere he-man lore movie and they were like, no, but it's got to be funny because Barbie was funny. And I'm like, not all the time. Yeah, I totally agree. I mean, you can't have the funny and also like the beginning of this movie is Idris Elba getting his chest shot out of his body. Yes, exactly.
Starting point is 00:32:44 You know what I mean? Also, the guy playing little Prince Adam, we saw in something else this here, this is Artie Wilkinson Hunt. and if you guys remember, he's the he's the kid doing all the shit with the technology and stuff at the end of Good Luck Have Fun Don't Die. Oh, okay. Really? Yeah, it's that kid doing all the computer stuff
Starting point is 00:33:09 in that movie. Well, he's aged up. I was pretty surprised about that. Yeah. Happens. Speaking of him aging up, I got to say, this other guy here, this Nicholas Galatine, like, not the worst thing in the world,
Starting point is 00:33:21 but also I was kind of thinking. about He-Man the least in the He-Man movie or in the Masters of the Universe movie, which is not a great sign. No. He's not bad, but it was just kind of like right down the middle. I like him generally. I think he's been good in other things. He's been a standout in a few things. But like, I agree.
Starting point is 00:33:42 I kind of was waiting for something. I honestly think Eretre's elbow is really good in it. Like the stuff with the daughter, I think really works because Elbow, like, puts his fucking chest into it. And that was what I was focusing on most of the time when he's on screen at least. And I was waiting for something like that. The romance between him and I forget her name. It just never clicked at all to me. So I was like, okay, we're just friends.
Starting point is 00:34:05 We're just going to keep on doing this thing. It's Camilla Mendez as the adult Tila. Yeah, no, I thought she was good too. Yeah. And the adult in me really liked Alison Brie as Evelyn. That's rewriting some wires right now, dude. You got like, you got like six. 17, 17 year old people going to see that movie.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Like, let's take that wire out of here, put it over there, take that guy, screw it into this thing right here. And now you're set for the rest of your life. It's going to get expensive. Let me tell you. Oh, it's an investment, dude. Yeah, no, I got to say, you know, this will eventually live on Amazon Prime because it's a Amazon MGM movie. I can see myself clicking through late at night, you know, maybe a nightcap and some green nightcaps and just kind of, because again,
Starting point is 00:34:59 I think this looks so good in a way that like, I did not feel the trailer even did it justice. I want to be clear, Chris is not our president at a basketball game or at a UFC event. He's not sleeping. No. He literally is taking a long blink.
Starting point is 00:35:15 I want to be really clear about that. Yes, yep. What you say? technical difficulties. Good old long blink cabin. Yeah, so, you know, it's nice to be surprised at the movies every once in a while.
Starting point is 00:35:32 So, speaking of which, some were surprised one way, some were surprised another way, but yes, Disclosure Day. Let's talk about the new one from Senior Spielberg, oh, man.
Starting point is 00:35:44 You know what? I like this movie. It is to me the, quintessential three and a half stars for me. I enjoy it. I was entertained throughout. I thought of the Hawks quote. What's a good movie?
Starting point is 00:35:59 Three good scenes and no bad ones. That is what I felt this whole movie. I was like there's three or four sequences here that I think are out fucking standing. And he nails. But like there's a lot of stuff that I also just don't think work. Josh O'Connell, who I usually really love, I kind of think he was miscast.
Starting point is 00:36:18 I kind of was I think it was Esther Somebody said they should flip Russell and O'Connell Yes And I think that would work I really really think that would have maybe clicked this thing where it wasn't clicking
Starting point is 00:36:37 The whole time for me But popcorn movie I enjoyed myself the whole time I think the ending does work I know a lot of people have been having Issues with it because of people don't watch the news. It's not going to be convincing.
Starting point is 00:36:51 I don't really think that's the thing. I don't think that's exactly what. I think it's very, I mean, it's Spielberg. I mean, I feel like in the 90s, that ending would have hit. And I still kind of liked the ending, but it's very convenient. And you've got lines like, is all this AI? No, it's not. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:37:11 And it just feels like just a narrative convenience in a way of like, let's wrap this up. I completely agree with you on why it should have been the O'Connor role. I don't understand why this movie, like many movies, every single person who works for the government is from Ireland or the UK or whatever. And I also think this movie saw Stranger Things a little too many times with the sort of the astral projection element. That's all I could think of during those segments. I thought Emily Blunt was fantastic. She's great.
Starting point is 00:37:43 It's very watchable. I love the classic Spielberg field to it. but it does feel like there's something missing from the sauce here. I just feel like narratively, it's just like by the end of it, and I mean like, you know, I'm not going to spoil the ending or anything like that, but it's just like, because the magic magic,
Starting point is 00:38:00 we were able to magic the magic the magic. And now the magic is going to work. And it's just sort of like, none of it had a, it was like a bridge, too many shaky bridges glued together to the point where like, I kind of just did not care when like the, at the end, like in the big moment when,
Starting point is 00:38:15 when the disclosing happened. happens. I just wasn't there anymore. And I think the nun subplot was like nothing. That that lady is just there holding the magic device waiting to hand it to somebody. In the beginning, she's so important. O'Connor doesn't, that whole him and her don't matter. If you just made it the Emily Blunt show, that would have been fine by me. Colin Firth is a great villain until he's not because it's just convenient for him to just sit down for a very long period of time. I would argue with that he's a motherfucker that knows when he's beat and just take the seat. sure sure and I like I like Elizabeth Marvel as the nun just sort of like even that speech is kind of nice but it just sort of like it just feels like we wanted to have something like this
Starting point is 00:38:57 I saw there was like 50 drafts of the screenplay and I believe it totally because it just the screenplay itself felt like a mess also I don't care for starting a movie at a wrestling match I just thought that was really silly and I was like what did I walk but are they playing the wrong movies is it Highlander am I watching right now I kind of liked that I mean one thing I'll say about the first thing. What you're asking for is the thing that has always tripped me up with Spielberg.
Starting point is 00:39:22 I don't want him doing epilogues all the time. I don't need the extra scene at the end. That's always been an issue with him. This movie ends exactly where it should. It's been so long since he's just been able to do that in a popcorn movie. Like Fabalman's, of course, I think he
Starting point is 00:39:38 nails it in West Side Story. And we all have different opinions on, but I think he also nails it there. But there are so many movies of his that I'm just like, you could catch me if you can I just rewatched Catch Me Again, I'm like, you could have done this so much earlier, brother. It's all good. Again, no bad scenes. But I just was way, like, just end it. Just like really get it.
Starting point is 00:39:56 I also just on the ending again real quick. Like in a post-COVID world, I agree. It just doesn't make sense. And honestly, like, we saw that talk at South by the other year, Age of Disclosure. Yeah. I thought it was pretty decent. Everyone was like, it's laughable. The idea, no, no one is going to ever believe in aliens.
Starting point is 00:40:15 No, I could have them on. the news for real. No one in this country will ever believe anything anymore. And I just, I do think that it's a failure at least I mean it again. Maybe it's, it might be a, what do you call it there, a looking glass thing like you can glass half full glass half empty kind of person. I might be, I guess I'm more of a glass half empty because I kind of agree with Eric. And I'll let Andrew speak because I feel like I'm talking too much. But like, uh, just I do think that like in a post-COVID world, we've seen so much of people not coming together in, in the direst of circumstances. And I think that the movie needs to make me believe it and it did not. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:40:51 It needs to overcome that. And I feel like with the broadcast television, it felt very 90s all over the exactly. Yeah, I don't know that I agree with that. I think one of the reasons I don't is because that woman playing that newscaster, that's one of the best performances in the whole fucking movie. This lady, she's excellent. And you know, it's interesting because I don't think he thinks it's his job to win over skeptics and cynics. I think what he's doing is saying, like, this is my outlook on stuff. And it's interesting, Chris, because you mentioned, like,
Starting point is 00:41:24 in War of the Worlds, right? Like, that's like a frightened Spielberg, right? And you were saying you don't think he's that frightened here. And I agree with you because I think he's hopeful. I think he's trying to look forward. And I think it's kind of interesting that the note about this movie is that, you know, the potential for, universal
Starting point is 00:41:45 true, universal like coming together, universal understanding, universal worldwide community through unfiltered truth is an interesting, hopeful thing. And like maybe you want to say like he's a little whatever, you know, like, okay old man, like that's not our
Starting point is 00:42:02 world, but like I appreciated just going to the movies and seeing some fucking optimism and the fact that like I wasn't sitting there being like, you know, well that's not how the real world would do it. Like I was fine with that because like it's not the real world. There's fucking aliens that can make themselves look like deer. So like, you know.
Starting point is 00:42:21 Cartoon deer specifically. Yeah. I mean, what are you going to do? There's no, not as many deer trainers in hollas. I'll say. Well, there could be. There could be. I love you.
Starting point is 00:42:31 You just, you're just sitting in the theater. Cartoon! I mean, yeah, kind of. I also think it's a crutch to use the North Korea World War III thing. Again, that feels very eight. It's like, oh, we can't do the Soviets anymore, I guess North Korea. Like there's enough things in the world, like even just the regular disclosure day. Like aliens are here. They could bring us together and all this stuff.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Like we're pretty divided anyway. Like talk about what's actually happening in the world as opposed to doing literally what watchman does. You know what I mean? Which is like these, we're at the 11th hour and only the only thing that can stop. And in this world doing that is a good thing as opposed to watchman where it might not be. But you know what I mean? Like where it's like the only thing that can get. everyone passed this world that's going to,
Starting point is 00:43:18 on the brink, is this. I kind of just wish some of the more of the real world was reflected a little bit. No, I agree with that. But I do think it's, I agree with you, but I do think it is very watchable and that Spielberg charm and shine. And when there's a set piece going and the music is singing, it fucking rocks.
Starting point is 00:43:36 So it does, it does have its points is what I. It sounds like I hate this movie. I don't hate this movie. I just don't like it very much. It was crazy to me, because I thought he had waved the big
Starting point is 00:43:47 retirement flag before this but this was another bang and John Williams fucking score. It was. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. You better do this. Dude, you think they're giving them like rich people like, you know, world changing medicine just so he can stay alive,
Starting point is 00:44:05 keep composing scores for Steven Spielberg movies. Please let me die. I mean, I also think after Fableman's, maybe the most intimate and personal film he's ever made. I think he needed to make something like this. Especially, I also think like a West Side Story has a lot of him in it.
Starting point is 00:44:24 But like Fableman's is just such a fucking, I think about that movie every week. I really do. That's one of those movies. And I'm like, I understand why you just wanted to make one of your movies after this. Like one of your little fucking like toy smash kind of movies. Like I'm into that.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Yeah. Yeah. I think the fable, I'm not the world's biggest Latter-day Spielberg fan, but I really love the fables. Amazing movie. Well, you love a good cuck story. I love it. Yeah, you know, I totally agree about the O'Connor Russell thing. I hadn't even considered that, but that's a real swapperuny because it is weird, like, because Wyatt Russell, like, he's a big deal now.
Starting point is 00:45:03 And I'm sitting there watching the movie, like, that's been a while since Wyatt Russell got left at that gas station, like the end of five easy pieces. Well, because I like him in the movie because he's the only guy that's like, isn't this bullshit? And I mean, like, not to be like, not that that's, you need that the entire time, but I do kind of like want a grounding voice. Like, and I think he does a really good job. But he felt very Spielberg to me, like, very like, he could be hanging out with fucking, you know, smoking a dude with Richard Dreyfus and third encounters kind of a thing. Sure. Well, because he's like, he's not an exact carbon copy, but he has the vibes of his father who was like, you know, of 80's mainstates. So he he sort of like carries the 80s vibes with him.
Starting point is 00:45:43 And she's great. That Emily Blunt performance is wonderful. Fantastic. She's just really, really, really good. To answer Miss Rosemary, NYC. No, I love the cameo. I think the cameo is phenomenal. But that whole movie, top to bottom, just hit, hit, hit, nothing but.
Starting point is 00:46:04 You're speaking of the David Lynch cameo for people who are listening to this on audio. In Fabelmans. I was like, wait, David Lynch cameo and Disclosure. Now I'm a fucking alien. Hello. Better movie. When the alien is down here, it's boring. When the alien is up here, it's fucking boring.
Starting point is 00:46:23 I'll tell you this much. Not really. If you care about the tiniest little detail, mute your computer for a couple seconds. I'll give you a second. Okay. An alien that kind of looks like it's getting wheeled out like FDR is amazing. It's fucking amazing.
Starting point is 00:46:40 That aliens in his fourth term as president. Yes. I'm not going to spoil this. My favorite part of the movie was the thing with Nixon. Yes. Oh, that was great. Dude,
Starting point is 00:46:50 I think that that's, when I saw that, I was like, I guess this could be an episode. I bet we could talk about that scene. I think we could make an episode of that movie. Yeah. Because I just,
Starting point is 00:46:59 yeah, I think that like there's stuff there. I mean, again, like there's stuff to talk about. It's, it is an interesting movie. He made an interesting movie.
Starting point is 00:47:06 So that's, you know what I mean? Yeah. That's, credit enough. We're not talking about mass of the fucking universe here, which is not an interesting movie. This is an actual capital I interesting movie. It just, you know what I mean? Like it just, and it's reflecting certain things of biases, whatever. You know what I mean? Like, that's a good thing. We haven't mentioned him once and I feel like I have to because it's a real, as far as this
Starting point is 00:47:26 movie career goes, this is a real redemption from the last time I saw him on the big screen. Coleman Domingo is fantastic in this movie. He nails it. Yeah. I think he's really good. And because the last thing I saw him in was that running man. where he's playing the Richard Dawson role. Oh, yikes. It's just, I mean, it's not a good movie. It's not his fault. But this, I liked him more in it.
Starting point is 00:47:45 I don't know how everyone else felt about him. I liked him, but he's just part of the good guys. And I'm like, who are the good guys? Why are the good guys versus, and you've done this for 30 years. And then all of a sudden, you're like, I'm a good guy now. And that's never been described as to what the change is for him as a character. He's great. He's like every line that he's giving.
Starting point is 00:48:05 He's knocking out of the park. It's just one of those things that I just, I think you're supposed to believe that it's like the disclosure, right? Like he sees the stuff and that's the, he's radicalized. Keep talking. I got to let my dog out for the walk. Sure. I'll just say,
Starting point is 00:48:18 this is a movie that was underseen with Coleman Domingo in it. Dead Man's Wire, I believe is streaming now. Ooh, I want to see that. Amazing. You got to see it. It's really good,
Starting point is 00:48:27 probably with the best Bill Scarsguard I've seen. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Check out. It's a movie that was put out by a company that was filmed by a bunch, formed by a bunch of rich dudes who were like, we'll put out movies. And then they blew through all their fucking money and the company folded.
Starting point is 00:48:43 So if you ever find Dead Man's Wire, watch it while you freaking can. There's a couple of them. And like Domingo, I think, has been on a bit of a role. I didn't like that Ruskin movie. But I think he's so, so damn good in that Sing Sing. A movie I otherwise. I still got to see that. I'm otherwise not crazy about, but he is, he makes it worth it.
Starting point is 00:49:05 And I just, I've been waiting for him to like, He's been getting all these nominations and I'm like, I'm waiting for a big one. And I wonder if this as a supporting might get him something, but I'm not sure if it's going to be as big as that. He also deserves some Emmy and Golden Globe attention for the four seasons. We just watched the finish second season of that. And that's an interesting show. I think it's a good show. Very nice to watch a lot of my comedy people be in this television show together.
Starting point is 00:49:33 But it's a weird thing because it's like all of these comedy people and then Coleman Domingo as like a. you know, quote unquote real actor. So it's a lot of like Tina Faye and Will Forte are, you know, doing great and it's totally fine and Carrie Kenny's really great. But then here comes Coleman Domingo and I'm an actor. And he just like fucking lights your TV on fire. It's so good. No, I didn't see Michael, but maybe he'll get a nomination for that.
Starting point is 00:49:58 Sure. Oh, Lord. You laugh now, Chris, but I feel like everyone but us loves Michael. Yeah. Oh, I don't think of that much. That movie will get some attention. for the awards, I think because it almost has to because it made so much money. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:12 I don't think it's going to get best picture. I hope not. You got 10 slots to fill exactly. There's always a garbage commercial one or a garbage e commercial. They want people to watch those broadcasts. I think Michael's getting noms, guys. God damn. We got one more thing to talk about here as we rapidly approach the top of the hour here.
Starting point is 00:50:33 But that's right. Spider-Noire, the latest thing to get shot. Shout out of the Spider-Verse. It's on Amazon. It's got Nick Cage. It's eight episodes of a lot of fun as far as I'm concerned. I was not really familiar with the other adventures that this character has had over its comic life. But as far as like Cage's returned or turned to TV, first ever time he's done a television show, it's awesome.
Starting point is 00:50:58 I think he fits right in that mold nicely. My problem with it, and I realized this as I just finished the full eight episodes before we went on the air, My biggest beef is that it's, it's spider noir. It's very much, you know, a love letter to all of the, you know, just garbage sea pictures that we saw, you know, back in the day coming out of Hollywood. There's just those, like, kind of noiras that you could buy like 50 of and a $20 DVD. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:26 Like that kind of stuff. The beam movie. Yeah. Yeah. And the problem is those, those movies are fun and great and they're all like 60 minutes. You know, 60, 74, like, detour. Yeah. It was like 74 minutes long.
Starting point is 00:51:39 So like the fact that this is a long arc story and not a, here's what Spider-Noars do in week to week, makes it feel less like those garbagey noirs from back in the day. But it's a small complaint. I had a lot of fun. No, I agree with you there. I think I'm enjoying the show. I'm up to like episode six or something.
Starting point is 00:51:56 I think they could be shorter. I feel like it's kind of a long run time for this. But I am having fun. It's such a weird thing that exists. Like Nick Cage old playing Spider-Man as a private detective. I never thought I'd see the day and I am having fun with that. And I am too.
Starting point is 00:52:14 I think he's really well suited for the material right now. The way that his face hangs, the way that his voice has been leaning into Genevievey Stewart anyway. And now he can just kind of do that. I was dressed like him. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:52:28 And now it makes worse sense. He's got a little bit of bogey in there too that he's definitely like, you know, shining it on. It's great performance. It's really fun. It is kind of weird that we now live in a world wherein basically to make, oh, I have an idea for
Starting point is 00:52:42 Nwar Shard. Well, is Spider-Man in it? He could be, I guess. You know what I mean? I feel like the only way to Greenlight saving Private Ryan now is like, well, all right, it's Wolverine. And he's, it's World War II. Omaha Beach. And I guess Wolverine is there. Can we do that? Can that be a movie that we can make? Well, we'll see, this summer is the one that's going to prove if that's true or not. Because if, if, what's the new Spider-Man and the other
Starting point is 00:53:09 I forget the other ones but like if they perform the way that's a Mandalorian and Grogu are that might not be true anymore that we might be moving into the next phase of whatever we're doing here because I really do think the fact that that movie didn't do
Starting point is 00:53:25 what it was supposed to do. It still made money. Don't give me Ross. The thing still a hit. But like I am less and less inclined to be like that's all they think about anymore. It feels like that's starting to stop a little bit. As far as Spider-N-N-War,
Starting point is 00:53:38 I really am enjoying just letting Cage do Cage and have that as the movie or the show, rather. And like, you said Jimmy Stewart, he's like doing everybody. He's Cagney for a little bit. He's doing a little Durante every once in a while. Like that's what I, it feels like all the love he has for those old performers
Starting point is 00:53:59 is just like seeping into this show. And that's what really pulls me in about. it. Yes. I think Cage even said in the press that his hope is like kids will like the show and check out Humphrey Bogart movies. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. I mean, he's definitely laying it on. There's a moment, I should say, Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson is fucking great. There's an episode later in the season where he has to do an impression of Nicholas Cage. And it's really funny. It really, really works. I also want to comment, compliment Li Jean-Lee. Yes, she's great. This, what's Cat Hardy.
Starting point is 00:54:34 Cat Hardy, great fucking noir name also. And it's also fun for Spider-Man fans. Like, Cat Hardy is the black, Felicia Hardy is the character. Cat Hardy is the way we're doing it here. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:54:46 And it is fun. Like, even in the first episode, it's like when they're like, Flip Marco. I'm like, fuck, who's Flip Marco? God damn it. Sandman. Oh, it's Sandman.
Starting point is 00:54:53 You know what I mean? And Jack Houston, who's a little too close to boardwalk, his boardwalk, his boardwalk character, but it's fine. It's fine. Dude, yeah,
Starting point is 00:55:01 he's just got to put that fucked up face plate over himself. He's not constantly trying to kill himself. I guess that's a little different. And I've been watching it in black and white. I don't know about you guys. Yeah, because I'm not a fucking heathen. Like that color option is just for like babies who whine about shit.
Starting point is 00:55:18 You know, and it's like I understand it from a business standpoint, but that's all it is is a business standpoint. It's an artistic standpoint and it's fucking sad. Well, yeah, it's a business standpoint because they know people on Amazon are probably not going to watch it in black and white. I've been watching the black and white and enjoying it. did watch one episode in color just because I was like, what does Sandman look like? And I was
Starting point is 00:55:39 during the middle of the day and it was really bright. So I was, yeah. And it was, it was, the color was not as bad as I was expecting it to be. But yeah, I still prefer the black. Yeah, my brother has been going back and forth. He says the color looks good. That's, I, I, I'm with him. I actually think the color is good. And it's interesting because it is not clearly like they, they transferred it. So like, it's not, it's interesting to watch what they chose as far as colors go, make the black and white work. If you get what I'm saying. Like the little, little choice, like, there's a lot of green.
Starting point is 00:56:10 Surprise, surprise. And Katz's dresses were like when in the color, I was like, whoa, okay. These are colorful numbers. And I did not get that when I was watching in the black and white. Yeah. I feel like it for, I mean, for me anyway and just how my eye take stuff, like it would just change how I'm watching it. Like I feel like I'm watching Spider-Neo noir. And it's set in the 1970s if it's in color.
Starting point is 00:56:32 You know what I mean? like noir and color to me just doesn't it doesn't vibe um but you know i can i can get looking at it being like oh wow that's that's what that looked like you know yeah that was the color sweater jacky gleason had on in that honeymooners episode but to me like it's i'm glad it's it's it is pronounced and they've done some stuff with it because it just feels like ted turner colorization of shit and it just i don't know i could i couldn't get behind it better than that it's definitely like they actually just filmed it in color and made it black and white, I think.
Starting point is 00:57:04 Yeah. But there is that sort of that sepia play that I'm not a fan of. Right, right, right. Abraham Popula as Tombstone's fucking awesome. Love that guy. And Brendan Gleason is fantastic.
Starting point is 00:57:15 Yes. Steve, is that a comic character? I didn't look that one up. Silver Maine is a comic character. And it's kind of fun. I always love when these, I mean, obviously, I made fun of it earlier, but I do love like these large bench clearing,
Starting point is 00:57:28 like, oh, I'm getting Silver Main. Okay, that's cool. You know, did not see that coming. And it's just nice that Brendan Gleason can like just talk like Brendan Gleason. And it also just makes sense for the time and everything. I love what's his name as the mayor, the guy from the wire. Oh, yeah. Is the crooked mayor in this, which is great.
Starting point is 00:57:48 Yeah, you know, I don't know. I really like the guy who's, he's not the Jamie Fox character, but he's not electro, but like it kind of is. I didn't get there. Oh, there's an electric guy. Yeah, yeah. I thought he was. was Electro, but you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:04 Same idea. It's the same. It's the same vibe. Yeah. But I do like all this stuff about like, you know, this collection of veterans and, you know, what that, you know, all. Yeah. It's a cool.
Starting point is 00:58:14 Yeah. It's a cool show for sure. Also, Poughkeepsie mention. I love that. Love a Pekipsy mention. Oh, hell yeah, dude. I didn't look it up. Anybody get an idea of where they shot a lot of this stuff?
Starting point is 00:58:26 I mean, obviously it's a lot of like sound stations and stuff. I don't know. No. I will say there was a B-line bus featured and fucking at the end of disclosure date. I'm like, holy shit, a B-line bus from Westchester. Dude, yeah. I think of White Plains was like, like, splashed across the side of it. I couldn't believe
Starting point is 00:58:40 it. Yeah, it's very funny. Yeah, so, you know, definitely a good show. I'm just glad, like, I can see finding it too long for sure, Eric. I'm just glad we're not in the boys' territory. Like 66 Ministers. That for me is way too much. It's like, yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 00:58:56 47 and back. Like, I'm kind of, I'm kind of now, like, just clamoring for that at all times because everything's so super long, but... Yeah, it looks like Spider-Noires, shot in Los Angeles. A lot of the Warner Brothers back lot, which is cool. I mean, that's what you want for this. Yeah, that makes sense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:13 Oh, and Scott MacArthur from Running Point, which is the Netflix, Kate Hudson Basketball Show, which he's hysterical on. He's one of the goons. He's one of Silverman's goons. Oh, cool. The not stupid one, just the kind of slightly stupid one, but not the super fat, super super... Oh, I think that's the kid, the kid, because I'm an old man, The kid who's on, what do you call it there?
Starting point is 00:59:34 Righteous gemstones in the first season as, yes, okay, the guy had the weird, the deep weird voice. Yeah, that guy, he's really cool. I like that guy. And I think he was also, at least in, I don't know if he was on Breaking Bad, but he was, I think, part of the white supremacist things. And that, that makes a not great movie.
Starting point is 00:59:51 Oh, no, I think he's in that too. That is a not great movie for sure. But yeah, running point on Netflix, two seasons, good basketball talk and very funny show. All right, well, that is all the blabbing that is fit for the hour, of course, but the fun does not stop with this broadcast because we've got a couple of shows coming up this week in the WHMU we want to talk about before we get off the air here. Next Tuesday, or tomorrow, so I mean it is the next Tuesday, but literally tomorrow. The summer blockbuster extravaganza hit a little bit of a roadblock because we were going to do one movie and then it turned out to not be on streaming anywhere.
Starting point is 01:00:25 So instead we wound up talking about Chuck Norris and Top Dog, which if you haven't seen this, you're not going to be all the guess how much Nazi-related talk is in it. Very surprising for a dog movie. It is shocking. It's very shocking. And they go for it, man. They really fucking go for it.
Starting point is 01:00:44 As far as movies where a dude has teamed up with a dog to do police work, I think this one goes the hardest as far as the villains of the film. You can catch that wherever you get podcasts, but on patreon.com slash we hate movies, you can get it 100% commercial free. And speaking of,
Starting point is 01:01:02 on Thursday we are dropping what will be the next edition of our SoCal in the 1990s primetime TV soap opera recap show Melro 210. We are in college on 90210.0 and we are not going to the oncologist on Melrose place. We're in college and we're not going to class ever. We're just going to be constantly preparing to go to class. Like I said on the episode, it's like August 45th in this fucking show. September will not happen. I read ahead to like, so what would be July's 902 episode, and it was something, something about classes.
Starting point is 01:01:42 So finally, I think school in July, but we're still trying to figure out if we want to pledge fraternities and sororities and whatnot. So that's all talked about this month. Speaking of summer in August, Steve, you said August, and that just makes me think we're playing Las Vegas in August, three shows at the Rio. Please come out. during STLV, the Star Trek convention.
Starting point is 01:02:04 You do not need convention passes. Thursday, August 6th, we're doing Star Trek 2, Rath of Khan. Friday, August 7th, we're doing Star Trek Generations. And Saturday, August 8th, we are doing Star Trek. First Contact, I would like to see you there. Yeah. I'll be hungover, hungover, hungover, and hungover. It's going to be so much fun.
Starting point is 01:02:23 Hungover, hungover, hungover, hungover, possibly broke, possibly broke, possibly broke. We'll see what happens. The four of us unleashed on Las Vegas is going to really be something. We want to see you there. Like Eric said, tickets available at WHM Podcast.com. All right,
Starting point is 01:02:36 that's it for us this week, y'all. Enjoy the shows. We will see you not next Monday, but I think we're going to try the Monday after for the next on-screen live. So stay tuned,
Starting point is 01:02:45 like and subscribe to the channel so you get those updates. And you know the next time we will be on screen live. But until then, I've been Andrew Juppen. Steven, Sadek. Eric Sisko.
Starting point is 01:02:53 Chris Cabin. See you at the parade in New York. We love you, Nick. Goodbye.
