But first up on the docket, Star Trek, the original series, the episode in question,
The Alternative Factor, original air date, March the 30th, 1967.
Now, the alternative factor, Jim Boy, that's when Nirvana really blew up, you know.
Suddenly on the radio we had sound garden, Pearl Jam.
It was the alternative factor.
I was a mud honey fan myself.
Make up your mind, darn it.
I love the video, the little girl in the bee costume.
Yeah, I was dancing to it all, Jim Boy.
I do think to myself why there is no rain.
How about a Bush's razor blade suitcase?
Jim Boy, now that is a classic
It's got greedy fly
Swallowed
Bones, could you get out of my office?
No, Jim boy, I ain't gonna come down
from this cloud.
I knew I walked into that, Bones,
and you get the fuck out of my office.
I will not stop calling Spock a Greedy Fly.
All right, Jim Boy, fine.
I'll go down to sickbay
and inject my body with some glycerin.
Yeah.
Suddenly it feels like I got a machine head
that I just jacked myself.
Red shirt, just kill him.
It's better than the rest.
Red shirt, do you want a promotion?
Oh, man, this is even better than Azera.
Hey, you know what, Jim Boy, it was good to live with you.
Oh, ha, oh.
You know, Jim Boy, Jeremy's spoken, and I got to get the hell out of it.
Jim, boy, I have had a lot.
not and much like my favorite bad local age I'm bound for the floor.
What I want to really explore is what your death is.
Right. Oh, right, right. And I've done one. I just need to do, I don't know, like a couple hundred more, you know, just get, I just need, it'll take maybe one third, yeah, half your crew will die.
Right. Right. No more than a thousand. I guarantee it. Oh, yeah, but they want to go to.
to hell tonight.
Yeah, dude.
This is an amazing turn by Picard.
Oh my God.
So, yeah, in response to that,
you better believe the self-destruct sequence is initiated.
Well, he brings everyone in the ready room,
and they're like, okay, so what do you think you want to do?
Is there like escape pods or something?
No, we're going to blow the whole fucking thing up.
Just blow it right to fucking kingdom come.
It's like, what if we, I mean, I don't know, like,
is, I mean, I know it's a ship,
so the captain's authority is total,
but like, maybe when it involves
the death of everyone, there's a vote
possibly, like...
No, dude.
I would rather draw...
You're in the military.
Sorry.
It is what it is.
This is what you signed up for.
We could draw straws maybe
like half is better than none.
I'm sorry, Deanna.
Much like the Italian artist
Antonioni, we are going to blow up.
Oh, well done.
I sure do love
20th century cinema.
I think if you split straw,
you know, drew straws
and all that, the alien would, like,
judge you as like a weak
your weak leader
kill all of you anyway
right yeah you're totally right
and then there's this weird
fucking conversation
where they're setting
it's it's Riker and Picard
have to set it and it's like
you know commander Riker
da da da da da da and they're like
how long do you want to give it like
20 is 20 minutes good
well it's died 20 minutes
it's a weird
like Riker's basically like
all right dude
are we going to give the crew
time to prepare for their death
or are we just going to fucking blow
up like a pulling a band-aid off.
Oh, okay. How long does it
take to watch the movie Ghostbusters?
That's my favorite movie. That's the last movie
I'm ever going to see. You're right. That's what it should
happen. Because immediately once this
20-minute detonations
is started, like, we
just cut to like fucking Picard
kicking back in his lazy boy.
Yeah, dude.
Well, how long
is the uncut in Agada de Vos?
20 minutes.
Catch go.
And also, like, why is it everyone, like, I mean, this is a very well-behaved crew.
I would be flipping shit, screaming fucking in the hallway.
You'd be terrible and starfully, too, obviously.
Nilbog would get you, dude.
Yeah, that's true.
So it's just Kirk and Picard in his ready room.
Yeah, and he's listening to classical music, just waiting for the blow.
And he's really fine with it.
It's like, whatever, man.
But does he know?
You know, I've fucked enough.
Yeah, I'm good.
I've fucked enough.
But does he know, though, that?
Yeah, he's intending to call this guy's bluff.
I think he's ready to go to hell.
I kind of agree with Chris.
He's ready to go to hell tonight.
He's going for it.
I will not give that fuck the satisfaction.
I mean, I think in the back of his head he thinks he doesn't have the space cahones to do it.
You don't have the nuts, mister.
It's fucking funny, though, man, just with how casually and quickly he comes to this decision.
And record's like, totally cool, man.
Well, because he will follow Jean-Lou Picard to the ends of the earth.
Oh, you would think.
you think I'm scared of some monster made of the absence of light, huh?
Well, you're wrong.
Well, it'd be cool if he was like, oh, you killed one of my men.
Wow, that's really impressive.
Jordie, come here, and he just shoots him in the head.
Now there's two fucking dead guys.
What do you want, motherfucker?
Let's do it.
Tonight we dine in hell.
You're going to kill Pulaski?
I'll kill Pulaski.
Yay!
So then Deanna and Data walk in to
his apartment, his quarters, his quarters.
And they sit down and have a talk about, like, is this the best decision?
And data's like, what is death?
Yeah.
Hey, Captain, let's run out the clock.
What is death?
You know?
And they go through this whole thing.
And I think Picard knows the entire time because if not, I'd be like, guys, you really
got to get the fuck out of my room right now.
I am five minutes away from the abyss and I am not talking to a robot.
I'm not talking to customer fucking service.
Listen, everybody, we're going to blow up any minute.
I haven't even gotten to the fucking stay-pop marshmallow man.
I'm sorry, everybody.
I'm jerking to oblivion.
Yeah, exactly.
Deanna and Data, too.
Unless you ought to help with that effort, then you can stay.
Otherwise, get the fuck out of you.
I don't know about your robot grip, Mr. Data.
You know, it's now and never.
A replicator human steak.
Just kidding.
