Starting point is 00:01:37 Welcome, welcome, welcome. Okay guys, just to preempt you all, I don't know if that's the right word, but it is January. However, we are recording this in December, pre-recording it for you guys. So we haven't actually had a real Christmas yet. No, and we haven't had our New Year's Eve yet. So we haven't had our debrief yet. That'll be coming in the coming weeks. We've actually invited Bryony Derry on, who is Pilates queen. By Bryony, yeah. I mean, you've probably heard of her. She's insane at Pilates. And so we just thought it'd be a really good way to kickstart the January spirit. Kickstart those New Year resolutions.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Kickstart the motivation. Get all of us girls feeling that we're going to have a fantastic 2025. I just wanted to debrief because me and Melissa were just talking about something. She was telling me about
Starting point is 00:02:20 how one of her friends was very cool and had a very cool family kind of hippie vibes. And I was about to reply before we pressed start I have a serious serious other part of my life that wants to be a hippie and have like hippie children running around bare feet and like you know like some people are innately like just really cool they don't give shit about materialistic things but they're also just like innately cool like they're not caring about trends they just are them and that's it yeah and they like like obviously we kind of are in that route in terms of like we like all organic shit but what
Starting point is 00:02:54 I love about this idea in my mind where people have the allotment and they grow all the greens and all these things is that they are all wearing linen self-ssufficient, yeah. And they have all let their hair grow. They're so confident in their being. They're like, I don't want to be like you. The way we're living is sweet. But you know what? I feel like the older I get, I feel like I'm getting there. But I'm just naturally not drawn to being super hippie.
Starting point is 00:03:18 I'm just drawn to being like, I like what I like. I know, but I kind of just wish that I would not be wearing this clothes right now and I was head to toe hip. You know what was a vibe? The hippie vibe is like those skirts with the mini mirrors on them. Oh my God, absolutely. You know exactly what I mean. I know exactly what you mean.
Starting point is 00:03:33 I do think I will be putting my children in like hippie clothes, if that's what you want to call them, like linens and floaty and bare feet. Yeah, nice. It's good for you. It's great for you. Get that grounding in. What do we think about the grounding shoes? Oh, so gross bare feet if you're gonna wear anything but it's to walk around like the streets of london with grounding shoes on wait are you talking about bare feet no they're like it's a type of shoe that makes you i don't know what closer to the ground or
Starting point is 00:03:57 something and there's no holes in them i don't think they look quite hideous though you are right they're not exactly what i'm talking about I saw these two influencers who love their shoes so they get like and they cut the holes out of the washcloth yeah they wear muumus and everything they cut the soles off
Starting point is 00:04:09 what I'm really concerned about is not the rat piss not the fox poo not the petrol the needles the nails it's a hygiene problem you're right
Starting point is 00:04:18 and also like a bit of a safety problem I don't know how they're doing that like those tubes are going to have like sore bits of glass broken glass all sorts of stuff I think that's just taking a little little things a little bit
Starting point is 00:04:28 too far me too a wellness thing that's hyping up at the moment and i do think it's better for the planet yada yada something we used to always do is eating nose to tail of every animal back in the day we would eat every part of the animal it would last us a really long time whereas now we just want certain parts of the beef certain parts of any animal lamb whatever obviously not as great for the planet and we're using more and more food but what people are now starting to do is go back to their original like hunter-gatherer way of eating and they are eating like the liver and like delicious the nose and like the kidneys it's so maybe not the actual nose but it's like so so so so so good for us i mean the tongue the tongue no chicken livers i eat all the time chicken liver in a pate but people are literally
Starting point is 00:05:09 eating like the raw liver for breakfast and just eating it you've seen these people on instagram yeah yeah yeah when i was in marrakech one of the sides was chicken liver i actually grew up on chicken liver my mom and dad cook loads of chicken liver in white wine vinegar i think our parents back in the day probably would have grown my mom grew up on liver and kidneys and everything really low in cows and like so good in everything it's phenomenal for you but these chicks there's this one girl that pops up on my tiktok or instagram she lives in bali to be fair she's flawless i'm not into it i wake up and i have my raw coconut water and then she'll have like four livers raw and I'm like how on earth
Starting point is 00:05:46 are you doing that I also follow like the biohacking women and men and they have for breakfast like steak egg cheese
Starting point is 00:05:54 like cultures like you know what I mean it's basically I don't know I'm never going to be changing my diet that I could get with a bit more
Starting point is 00:06:01 than the raw the raw I'm never going to do the raw is fascinating to me because I'm like you're risking all the parasites and stuff raw I'm never going to do. The raw is fascinating to me because I'm like, you're risking all the parasites and stuff. So I don't get that. Ew. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:06:09 I'm not sure about that. Give me a seared steak, a little bit raw in the middle. I'm okay with that. I could deal with that. I'm not eating a raw beef tongue. Like, ugh. No. Have you ever had an ox tongue?
Starting point is 00:06:22 Probably. I think I have. I've tried the worst thing I've ever eaten in my entire life. Very rubbery, I can imagine. It's absolutely vile. It's exactly like rubber. Slimy, slimy rubber. It's so awful.
Starting point is 00:06:32 What other health trends am I just a bit like, get a grip? I mean, the sea moss is still trending. The sea moss is apparently amazing. I got on board with it. Do you love a bit of sea moss? I then stopped it. I know people are like, they're a worse taste. I genuinely gag when I taste it.
Starting point is 00:06:44 It is foul. I smelled it and I couldn't even try it. Right. Do you have any New Year's resolutions? You know what? I don't. And the reason being is because this whole year, I think I've been very resolutionary. Oh my God, you've been the healthiest, most pure, most insane version of yourself. I don't know how you can get much better.
Starting point is 00:07:03 Guys, I was just listening to Sophie on a phone call with someone and they were like you're an icon it's like you are actually how much did you want to start laughing I know because I was just like I'm obsessed with this I was like she is an icon she just goes thanks to link her ponytail did I I can't go oh thanks guys you can imagine yourself doing that can't you oh thanks I'm idiot she's got this
Starting point is 00:07:30 it's really hard when people compliment you a lot because it's like what do you say you always just go thank you so much because zooms
Starting point is 00:07:36 you can't gauge when someone's going to stop speaking so you end up like I hate it and then I'm like should I speak now should I not
Starting point is 00:07:41 I can't bear it you can't gauge that sense of like they finished their sentence now it's my turn to go and then someone else jumps in and you're like and I speak now shall I not I can't bear it you can't gauge that sense of like they finished their senses now it's my turn to go and then someone else jumps in you're like
Starting point is 00:07:48 and I let me and then I go mute and I just don't talk it's better just to be quiet god forbid it's the camera being on like god forbid
Starting point is 00:07:56 someone told me like they were talking about something else so like they never turn their camera on that I used to be that girl so now I have to turn my freaking camera
Starting point is 00:08:02 on and sometimes I just realize that I like actually go like, on the Zoom. Oh God, Sophie, you can't do that. I know. Do you want to ask me what my New Year's resolution is? Yeah, go on.
Starting point is 00:08:11 What's your New Year's resolution? I feel like maybe to be just more organised and also work harder on my personal brand. What is it, Melissa Tatum? As in just my Instagram, I just need to be a little bit more proactive, basically. I think you're very good on TikTok. I go through phases of not posting at all and then I'll post five in a day,
Starting point is 00:08:31 which is really not how you're supposed to do TikTok. But I'll have like a moment of being like, yeah, I'm so into it. And then I forget TikTok is this. Me too. And I just go on Instagram. Oh, yeah, fuck TikTok. I also really struggle to find out what to do with TikTok. Like my mind goes numb.
Starting point is 00:08:44 And then I get imposter syndrome i'm like no it's not trending can't possibly post it this song's old i'm like freak out i get imposter syndrome all the time it's actually quite detrimental you're an icon though so why are you getting that she's never gonna live that down it's amazing i'd love someone to say that you're an icon you are an absolute bloody icon it's not the same time for me. Love you. You're not. What other resolutions do I have? I do think that one thing I want to do is I want to not be so shouty to Jamie. Oh, you bit of a bitch.
Starting point is 00:09:19 I'm not a bitch to him actually anymore. So he would happily say that. But what I do is I will take out, I'll be like, oh my God, I'm so stressed. I'm so overwhelmed. I don't know how to fucking do this he's just in my vicinity so he's gonna and if he wasn't there I'd just be internally doing it but the minute he walks in the room I decide to verbalize it and he's just like whoa I know but that's part of being married isn't it that's part of the deal like at 30 is it legit to talk to people like that? Don't know, probably. Yeah. I mean, my mum, when she gets angry or whatever, lets it out. She doesn't hold back.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Right. Okay, this is good to know. I'm quite fiery, my mum, to be fair. I'm quite a fiery girl. Same. And I don't think Jamie really appreciates it, actually. He finds it really tacit. Well, you know, it can be.
Starting point is 00:10:00 I think he's just a bit like, he's not a fiery character. He's very, very like... Yeah, neither is Tobes. Like, he's not a fiery character. He's very, very like. Yeah, neither is Tobes. Like he would not raise his voice. No, yeah, same. But you can't have two fiery characters. It's a fucking nightmare if you do. Shouting at each other the whole time.
Starting point is 00:10:14 Now and again, he will get fiery. And my God almighty, I'm like, whoa. The scary thing about guys, I feel like my dad's so chilled. And then every now and then, if something's really, really, really, really, really bad and he loses his shit, then it's scary because you're like, it's taken a lot for you to get angry or like raise your voice different anger to me being like yeah yeah like oh from the belly like he's seen red and there's no going back at that point yeah jamie's you know that shit's going down my dad's also the same like i reckon he's like read his voice to me like probably three times my entire life
Starting point is 00:10:41 but when he does you terrified it's. Don't recover for about a week. No, me too. I actually never need quiver. It shivers me and like stays with me for a long time. Takes me a while to go. Isn't that crazy that like people have that effect on people? My dad has a really, really big thing if you say shut up. Like he can't stand you saying shut up.
Starting point is 00:11:01 It's really rude. Well, yeah, it is really rude. And now I'm older, I get it. But like I think I probably said shut up to my dad like when I was younger twice but he wouldn't even allow me to say it to my sister like or anyone so I'd always get told off but then twice I think I said it to him and they were the two times that I mean you just you want to quit that when that happens. Oh god. That was like grounding. Yeah I couldn't swear. I couldn't swear but shut up. Did you ever be told not to answer back don't answer back something that my mum always used to say to me and i'd be like don't roll your eyes it's like the frustration i can imagine like as a parent that you have
Starting point is 00:11:32 with your child is like the same that i have with my sibling like my brother does nothing and i'm like you're infuriating me like they just have an effect on you like no one else does and i don't know if it's because obviously blood is thicker than water so you know there's no amount of damage that can be done that's not reversible kind of thing yeah so you just get so angry with them what goals do you have for 2025 I would like to try and continuously make money for or donate money to the charity for motor neurons disease I love that and I think we should both do that together yeah mine also would be to get involved with the charity i feel like it's something missing and i would love to give back and i just need to work out what exact charity that is that means a lot that means
Starting point is 00:12:15 a lot and then like really actually like put a lot of time and effort into doing it because you know it's like always been on the back of my mind i've not perhaps made it a priority and i feel like 2025 it's time to be a priority also what I had as something that was stopping me before basically guys I've never said this but my grandma recently passed away from mutant neurons disease and I didn't want to be doing it necessarily whilst she was here because I didn't want her to weirdly feel like uh I don't know it was like a weird thing where I was like obviously she'd be so proud if I was doing it but then I didn't want her to feel like I don't know. It was like a weird thing where I was like, obviously she'd be so proud if I was doing it, but then I didn't want her to feel like, I don't know, it was such a weird thing.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I know exactly why you're crying. And now I'm at a point where I'm able to like talk about it and I'm desperate to do something. That's so lovely. I feel like this is a really nice thing for us to both do. It's a good goal. It's a really lovely goal. I urge you all to just think of something lovely to do for 2025.
Starting point is 00:13:03 Something for yourself and something for other people to help other people. Yeah. Right, we're going to get into our dilemmas now and at the end of the app, we've got Bryony coming on to give us some lovely tips on how to start the new year in a positive way with our Pilates and fitness girls.

Guarantee requires play by at least one customer until jackpot is Melissa, I have a huge dilemma. I've been with my partner for 10 years. We recently just got engaged and are due to get married next year in 2026 how is it 2026 i can pass that i've previously been on a date with one of his best friends which he is asking to be a groomsman awkward recently i've realized that i still wait hold on she went on a date with one of his best friends before so that's like well you've never gone on a date with one of toby's friends It's like me going on a date with Cam and then Toby asking Cam to be a groomsman or something. Recently, I've realized that I still fancy his...
Starting point is 00:14:31 Shut up. Shut up. I was not ready for that next sentence. I'm actually, I feel faint. I feel dizzy. I've got tears. Wait for it. I'm going to do the whole paragraph again.
Starting point is 00:14:43 I've previously been on a date with one of his best friends, which he is asking to be a groomsman. Recently, I've realised that I still fancy his best friend. Can't stop thinking about him to the point where I'm dreaming about him every night. I have tears. I love my fiancé dearly and I cannot wait to become his wife, but I do need to tell him my thoughts. No!
Starting point is 00:15:02 Do I hope it goes away? I would love to hear what he thinks. It's going to go away. It's a stupid... I'm done. That is absolutely breathtaking, that whole situation, Vanessa. She's crying.
Starting point is 00:15:12 That's horrific. I was yapping on about Cam when that was about to come off. That was the next sentence. You've got a weird fetish at the moment. It will go. This is not real. Let me tell you what that is.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Pre-wedding jitters. Yeah, it's called cold feet. It's called cold feet, but they're not what that is pre-wedding jitters yeah it's cool coffee it's cool coffee but they're not cold enough for you to walk away i think it's quite i think it's quite a common thing let's not go to the ex-lover that you want you went on a one date with him it's honestly you know what it is it's closing time it's crunch time you're gonna be with this man for the rest of your life and you're gonna think oh god you know what maybe i fancy this but no do not under any circumstances communicate this with your fiance do not communicate it with anyone but us take this to the absolute grave no you can tell your
Starting point is 00:15:55 friend like i've kept my fucking dreams about such and such why do i keep doing that i fancy don't say you fancy and be like it's making me feel like i do because they're in my dreams but like i need someone to like talk me out of it listen everyone has fucking weird dreams right and sometimes they can spin you out they can spin you out you think they're real and you're like well I'm fucking in love if you've had like a sex dream about somebody you can sometimes fancy them in the day you then come in you're like oh hello like Ben no I'm joking I had it with one of my teachers at school. No! Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:27 I had it with a guy at uni. Quite young, which is embarrassing. Yeah. And he was like, not my normal type. I know. Actually, I think I did have it with him and then I actually genuinely fancied him throughout uni. I honestly thought I was enough.
Starting point is 00:16:39 You didn't shake that one for a while. I remember when I first met you, you were still talking about him. I'm crying that dream really set in your brain I remember once we saw him in the same house and you were like oh my god but the point is a dream can spin you out yeah it really can
Starting point is 00:17:04 do not overthink the dream don't listen to the dream But the point is, a dream can spin you out. Yeah, it really can. Do not overthink the dream. Don't listen to the dream. If we listen to everything we fucking dreamt about, like Jesus Christ, I dream about weird stuff. You've had some serious dreams about, man. And they've spun you about big time. But you know what? One period of time in my life, there was consistent, vivid, horrific dreams. And they were actually my intuition.
Starting point is 00:17:26 And it wasn't me just fantasizing randomly about one person. It was me fantasizing about anyone and everyone. So I knew there was something wrong with my relationship. Do you know what I mean? Oh, God. Yeah, yeah. I remember that time. That wasn't just like a one-off.
Starting point is 00:17:37 It was like anyone I could dream about. It was the weirdest person. Like people that you would not fancy in the day. People that I also just didn't even know were in my dreams. I've obviously walked past them in the street. Do you know what I mean? What, just sex dreams? Random people in my dreams.
Starting point is 00:17:47 Ravish sex dreams. They weren't sex dreams. It was like I would go to kiss them and I'd be like, do I have a boyfriend? Oh, I'm sure there's someone there. And I'd be like, oh, fuck. Anyway, so that was different. But then, you know, every now and then you'll have a horrible dream
Starting point is 00:18:03 and you'll wake up, Toby woke up the other day day like i just don't know my dream last night and was like really panicked about it and like i was like you really don't need to tell me about stuff like that and he's like no i feel so awful like he's so obsessed with me all day and i was like oh okay you like have more of those dreams yeah the point is what you're having is you're having pre-wedding jitters you're freaking out we all do it's very normal don't worry about it well not we all do but i'm sure it's like very very very normal common even if you're so in love with your partner and like there's no outs of anything going on subconsciously you might have a really weird dream where brad pitt comes in and you have a bit of kinky you can't control that yeah and then
Starting point is 00:18:41 obviously you're gonna fancy brad pitt for rest of your life, and that's okay. Dreams are actually quite lethal, because I do think if you've had an amazing sex dream, you then think you've had an amazing sex with that person, and then forever you look at them differently. I know. I hope people have had those dreams about us. Oh, God, I really hope. I've never thought of that. What if there's loads of random people out there, or loads of people we know, and they've had these amazing sex dreams about us, and then they love us for the rest of their life.
Starting point is 00:19:08 That would be kind of creepy but sweet. I would really enjoy that. I don't think I've ever had a sex dream about someone where I've actually then forever more been obsessed. No, not me. But it's sent me out for a few months, that's for sure. Not months. Oh no, for me.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Because then it makes me feel uncomfortable that then I'm like, maybe they think that they know that I've had this dream. I've had more than one sex dream about the same person. It's outrageous. Horrid, hor me, because then it makes me feel uncomfortable that then I'm like, maybe they think that they know that I've had this dream. If you've had more than one sex dream about the same person, it's outrageous. Horrid, horrid, horrid. How is she going to help the pre-wedding jitters? Okay, so pre-wedding jitters, I think you've just got to really allow yourself. Don't put any pressure if you feel weird, whatever. I just think it's something that's normal.
Starting point is 00:19:40 I think talk to your mom, talk to your best friend, talk to your sister, like really close people you can confide in. Don't tell him. They will reassure you that, you know, it's fine. Yeah. Secondly, what are we going to do about him asking the guy she fancies to be the groomsman? Do we want him that involved in the wedding party? Listen, I don't think you can now suddenly decide, oh, I've had a dream. Therefore, I fancy you.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Therefore, you can't be my husband to be his best man. That's really selfish. There's nothing you can do about this scenario. This is a you problem. Your lovely fiancé wants his best friend as his best man, which is fair enough. And you're just going to have to get over this. It's just a dream.
Starting point is 00:20:18 It's just a crush. It'll go. And you just have one date with him. You are absolutely not in love with this guy. I can tell you that now. Oh, no. You're not. Because unless he hangs out with you so much, you can't be in love with someone just from going on one date with him you are absolutely not in love with this guy i can tell you that now you're not because unless he hangs out with you so much like you can't be in love with someone just from going on one date with them like it just doesn't happen you might you might really
Starting point is 00:20:31 fucking fancy you probably spent so much time with him since then if like you guys are now engaged and he's best friends with your husband to be do you know what i mean you spent a lot of time with him it's just now you're engaged you're suddenly like oh i think. I think I fancy him. Yeah. We love you lots. Don't worry about this, honestly. I think it's very common. Listen to lots of podcasts about it. You know, do your research to just reassure you that it is something that happens. A hundred percent.
Starting point is 00:20:54 We love you. Send me loads of love. And just really enjoy this time with your fiancé. Like, this is such an exciting time in life. Hopefully you're only going to do this once in your life, be engaged once. Just really enjoy it and just lean into being really in love with your fiancee next dilemma dilemma two ready yeah hi sophie and melissa i'm an american girl living on the complete opposite side of the country from my family and i have been for the last four years
Starting point is 00:21:20 i'm so proud of all i've achieved over the past four years. 18 months ago, I sadly lost my dad. And since losing him, I now see life completely differently. I'm in my late twenties and single. All of my friends are engaged or married and our friendships have changed, which is to be expected with the passage of time. I'm thriving in my career where I currently am and receiving the success that I've always dreamed of. However, I've been struggling being this far away from my family and home. I feel like the more time passes, the more distance that comes between us. With the new year starting, I'm thinking about my life. Do I decide to stay where I am and put my career first at the cost of being lonely?
Starting point is 00:21:57 Or do I go back home and be around my family and start my career from the bottom up? Tough question. Oh, that's really tough. What would you say? There's so many ways you can look at this you can look at it from a career and a money perspective and you can look at it from a mental health and a loving yourself perspective i would look at it from that and it depends on what's going to make you happier at the end of the day i think loneliness i mean
Starting point is 00:22:18 there's so many studies and things about loneliness and genuinely i think being lonely is the equivalent of smoking a packet of cigarettes a day for your health like that is how much of an effect it truly has so I know if you were like my little sister or you were my best friend or if it was me I would have to be near people and get my community back and have my family and friends around me and I would start fresh if you've gotten to such a successful point in your career now you're going to be able to do it again quite quickly I imagine because hopefully you can transfer or you go into a similar role in another place yeah um maybe speak to your company and be like look I love my job so much is there any like transfer to a different country or I don't know like do some research and see what can be done but I really don't think you should just stick it out because you're growing
Starting point is 00:23:03 places in your career like to me things are more important than that I think your happiness comes first and I think money is just a material thing and of course it's lovely to have money and it gives us so many things but you are young and like Melissa said you've done so well with your career already you're not going to go back and have to start at the bottom and I think you've got to put your mental health first and ultimately you're not going to be able to do a good job if you're miserable yeah sending you so much love I also really just want to say I understand the dilemma and also it must be really tough all your best friends around you being engaged and moving on in a different direction I guess in emotional areas
Starting point is 00:23:43 of their life and in relationship sense that's really difficult because you've now like lost that element of your support bubble and now all you have you feel like you have is your career so some people are really happy with that and you're not I don't think because you wouldn't be writing an ask do you know what I mean you wouldn't be happy about it either no neither I completely understand so need loads of love. And I hope that you make the right decision for you and keep us updated with anything. Yeah, please do. I also feel like so many people listening to this will resonate with that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:12 So, if you do resonate and have any advice of your own, please write in and then we can feedback. It's nice for tinies to give advice to other tinies. Yeah. Love that. Okay, right. That's the dilemmas done, girls. Should we get Bryony on the pod now?
Starting point is 00:24:23 I'm ready. Yep. Yay. okay right that's the dilemmas done girls should we get briny on the pod now i'm ready yep yay welcome briny we're so excited oh thank you thank you so much for coming this is so cozy i feel like i'm just at your house like having a little girl time yeah it's so nice i feel very at ease briny we interviewed you before you came on, but for the listeners, would you tell them who you are and what you do? So my name is Bryony. I am the founder of Pilates by Bryony, co-founder of Cloucher Matcher, also the host of Beyond the Mat podcast.
Starting point is 00:24:57 I am a Pilates teacher, essentially. Slasher boss, if I may say so myself. Also, I feel like you're fashion inspo too on Instagram thank you yeah very clean thank you so much what a compliment thank you girls I feel exactly the same way about you oh thank you so much how did you get so into Pilates so I actually and sorry if you're listening and I've heard this a million times, but I had a car accident when I was 18. So I found Pilates through basically kind of a rehabilitation for my body. Oh my God, I or anything like that. No one was really doing Pilates. It was kind of the phase where everyone was running and like doing HIIT workouts and stuff. It was not anything about like Pilates.
Starting point is 00:25:54 So I would literally go into the hospital to do my Pilates. Oh my gosh, I'm joking. That's amazing that they would do that. Yeah, I found one doctor who really was just so forward thinking and just told me basically, if you want to rebuild your strength, I mean, I had like a neck brace on and all that. I'm so sorry. No, now I'm like so grateful for it because it's changed my life. But he said, if you want to fix or heal your back, you have to strengthen your core. Your powerhouse has to be strong. So that
Starting point is 00:26:24 was my entry in and then I just did it to heal myself and then I was like being young like oh I'm healed it's fine and then kind of fell off and did other things and then found myself coming back and now I just can't imagine life without it so I used to do HIIT training and I really don't like that anymore and look everyone eats their own but I really do notice like the low intensity. Like I do really low weights now. And so in a way it is similar in the sense that it still does the same things. But I really need to get into Pilates.
Starting point is 00:26:55 I actually am really hyper mobile. So it's really important for me. What is the difference between like, in your opinion, like a HIIT workout to Pilates in the sense of how it changes your body? And how it makes you feel. Yeah. Well, for you, for example, being hypermobile, you spend so much time in your flexibility that you're not in your strength. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:27:18 Yes, I weirdly do. So this is like a really basic example. But if you're lifting weights and your back is super arched, your core is like switched off. Whereas if your tailbone is tucked under your ribcage is wrapped in your belly buttons pulling back to the spine, like it's so weird because if you do Pilates, you won't be able to not do that when you're lifting weights you're so like tuned into it it really does like completely change the way you see things and the way you move mind body connection for example my boyfriend he'll be like lifting weights or whatever in a completely different way now he'll do like a little pilates activation before he does weight wow yeah oh my god that's so good i mean you do see some people doing workouts and I'm like oh my god your back everything is all wrong and I'm like yeah doing so much harm to your body you know when you see people on all fours lifting one leg up like so often yeah
Starting point is 00:28:16 exactly and that's when you're just basically showing your flexibility and damaging your lower back whereas if you have your back more flat, more neutral, and you're lifting your leg, you're going to feel it in your glutes, like within two inches of lifting off, you know, you just move so differently. So I think that as you say, the mind body connection is what's so good because you're so tuned in, you're so connected. And then at the end of your half an hour or whatever, you're like, Oh my God, I wasn't thinking about anything else. But as you said, it was too slow oh my God, I wasn't thinking about anything else. But as you said, it was too slow. I think you have to find one that's hard and one that you connect with because I've also been to classes years ago in the past and been like, I'm thinking about, you know, like
Starting point is 00:28:57 what I'm going to have for breakfast. And I do think you need to be pushed. So maybe we need to get you into it. So January, I think everyone gets bombarded with loads of fad diets, loads of fad fitness things. What would be your top tips for avoiding and which ones would you avoid? So I wouldn't do anything short term. I would really think about long term sustainable changes you can make. And don't go all in on day one. Like,
Starting point is 00:29:28 make them slowly so you'll feel good about that. You'll be like, okay, ease yourself in. Don't jump in at the deep end because you will drop off. It's like a vicious cycle because then you'll be really hard on yourself and be like, oh my God, I'm a failure and I didn't do this or whatever. But I think start small. Ignore all the fad diets. Some people might not want to change anything. That's fine as well. If you feel great, don't do anything in January. Just keep doing whatever you're doing. But if you do want to make some changes, really get clear on your why. There's an amazing book called Start With Why. It's such a good book and it really helps you be like okay why am I actually doing this is it because of pressure around me because I'm feeling like I have to do it or am I actually doing it for
Starting point is 00:30:10 like my purpose whatever that might be so okay that's what I would say what would be your top tips for January if they're like me and they can't find that rhythm in gymming or pilates how would you say would be a good start, a way to ease their way into it? So I would definitely say find like an accountability partner. So you two could like hold each other accountable. You could like create your own January challenge. Do you know what I mean? So you could like have a girls night. I did this once with one of my friends, Amber, like she came over, we had our little journals it was like a cozy girls evening and we were like okay what would we both love doing and there'll
Starting point is 00:30:50 be some things that she'll want to do that maybe like aren't necessarily my thing but I'll be like no that's like me pushing myself so yeah that's good and then vice versa so you hold each other accountable message each other every day I know people that have like office group chats and they're like, have you done your Pilates yet? That is so great. So I think definitely having like a family member or a friend that you're like in this with them. That's a really good tip. And also starting small. Like I often think with New Year's resolutions is people go all in and like just completely do these mental things in January and it's completely
Starting point is 00:31:27 unsustainable and that's when like you see the spikes in the gym memberships in January and then in February everyone drops off because it's just not realistic so I think start small build yourself up rather than going from zero to a hundred so maybe do like 15 minutes a day 20 minutes a day you know build it up and also just find something you love. Like obviously believe in Pilates for everyone, but if Pilates isn't your thing, maybe it's like going for a walk every day with your friend or your dog or your partner, whatever type of movement it is that you enjoy. Don't overcomplicate it. It doesn't need to be like loads of equipment, a gym membership. It can be quite simple.
Starting point is 00:32:05 Should we talk a bit about culture? Yes. Because that is your match around. Yes. Tell us about it. How did that start? Matcha is just huge. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:32:14 I'm literally obsessed. I'm obsessed. And do you drink coffee? No, I do. Stopped. Swapped. My biggest thing was the crashes I used to have on coffee were, I almost couldn't work. I don't get any crashes on
Starting point is 00:32:26 matcha. I also have ADHD and I just feel like it's honestly so good for my brain. So what are the benefits of drinking matcha? I could honestly tell you the benefits until I'm blue in the face, but one of the huge benefits is the fact that it has this amino acid in it called L-theanine. L-theanine, what it does, like you said earlier, the spikes and the crashes that it has this amino acid in it called L-theanine. L-theanine, what it does, like you said earlier, the spikes and the crashes that coffee gives you, you won't get that with matcha. So it enters your system slower, stays longer, and then leaves slower. So it's this sustainable caffeine boost rather than being like, boom, and then you have the crash. And also you'll find that when you have that coffee crash, you you crave sugar you crave that afternoon sugar hit you won't get that with
Starting point is 00:33:10 matcha you'll almost feel like your matcha is that treat sweet treat yeah exactly so and also it's changed my skin i used to i've been on racotene twice didn't work i was covered in acne um and it completely has changed my skin so it's high in vitamin c and vitamin e so it's honestly amazing it's also high in chlorophyll so anti-inflammatory it is just incredible everyone needs to drink matcha but i understand why people drink a bad matcha and they're like i don't like matcha also there's a lot of different grades of matcha so if you're drinking this is what i always say if you're't like matcha. And also there's a lot of different grades of matcha. So if you're drinking, this is what I always say, if you're drinking everyday matcha versus ceremonial matcha,
Starting point is 00:33:50 it's kind of like drinking a wine that you would only cook with. Got you. Oh my gosh. Do you know what I mean? I know exactly what you mean. So what I want to know is how are you making it? Because the thing is, I can buy them out and I'm very good at noticing if it's not Bible green. making all myself I can't do it there's a lot of admin with
Starting point is 00:34:08 the whisk there is and you can go wrong with it okay so this is what you need to do a teaspoon of matcha then you get a little bit of hot water if you can do not boiling so like 80 degrees would be great so just boil it wait and wait a few minutes you can select 80 degrees so 80 degrees pour a little bit of water in and don't go around in a circle that just doesn't do anything you need to go back and forward in like an m shape okay with the whiskey thing with the whisk and like quite fast but don't push hard because then you'll ruin your whisk just make sure you've got that foam top layer and then you're like good to go then I add a little bit more hot water and then I put um in
Starting point is 00:34:51 the milk frother milk and collagen powder in the milk frother and then I pour the water in as I'm stirring it so it like mixes the water the water and the milk together I'm obviously making an error because I'm putting the matcha the milk and my collagen all in the milk frother and pressing go. I really believe in like the rituals and the heritage behind it. And I think that they created it with that whisk for a reason. Do you know what I mean? So as a brand, we'll never do like an electric whisk, for example, because I do think it tastes different. So try it.
Starting point is 00:35:22 I'll try it in the traditional way.
