Starting point is 00:00:00 what's up everybody welcome back happy skews day to you it is august 6th i'm trade that's mark how's it going mark feeling good it's a good day today doesn't it feel weird to feel good it is a good day uh it's that the democratic party appears to have made two correct decisions in a row i know be still my heart make a wish everybody yeah that is It is wild. It's like, who are these people and what have they done with, you know, the Democratic Party? Because it's just, I don't know. I've just been pretty thrilled with the way the past, what, two to three weeks has gone or whatever.
Starting point is 00:00:40 It's like, I was, you know, we both said we thought Biden should, would, should, should drop out of the race. But I was still very worried about how that would actually play out just because, you know, all the history there and everything. And then it's just, it's just been a real nice surprise. Yeah, whoever, all the Democratic consultants appear to have been ratatooied by someone who's not a coward. It's pretty amazing. So I'm pointing at the show. We talked about some disinformation for a minute because I woke up yesterday to like people
Starting point is 00:01:10 panicking about an economic collapse. I saw that too. It took to the end of the day to realize it was totally fucking fake. Now what happened? It was like the S&P dropped a few points and it was back up to where it was eight weeks ago pretty much immediately. But like the Japanese markets had fucking been, they're a day ahead of us, you know. So they're Monday is Sunday.
Starting point is 00:01:27 there's Sunday or Monday or whatever and so like they had a collapse the crypto market for the bottom fell out of that which happens like once a week but like I was like all I realized oh it's just all disinformation all the fucking right wing Silicon Valley
Starting point is 00:01:40 psychos are trying to manifest a global economic collapse to create an opportunity for the return of Donald Trump and they're basically trying to do to the whole global economy what they did the Silicon Valley Bank where they created a bank run
Starting point is 00:01:56 and then forced the government to bail them out. So no one's bailing you out of your crypto, guys. I'm sorry. It's just like you've got ride it to the moon or whatever, but like it's not going to fucking happen. And like the sheer stuff Elon is doing with Twitter, like if you go search Black Monday referencing, you know, the stock market collapse in the 80s, it redirects to like Obama and Biden's Twitter accounts, which is just purely like once Walls was announced this morning, George Floyd was trending worldwide on Twitter. And it's purely because, you know, Floyd was killed in Minneapolis and that's where the riots, the protests started. And they're trying to like hook that in with his name,
Starting point is 00:02:33 like he personally killed George Floyd or started the BLM protest or something. And it's like, it's just like the sheer artificial reality these people are living in and trying to create or successfully doing it. Like we're not going to get into the UK riots over like a bunch of bullshit that had been going on for a week now where they're trying to like literally lynch burn down mosques and lynch Blank of Brown people all based upon fiction that they want. to believe, but it's still based upon fiction. And, like, so here's a PolitiFact tweet. PoliteFact is from the Pointer Institute.
Starting point is 00:03:01 They're not so obscure, random organization. They are, uh, they're journalistic enterprise, and they felt they need to put off this fact check. Uh, President Joe Biden didn't kill his first wife. It's like, who thought, if anybody's wondering, he was in D.C. When she died in a car accident, like he literally has a, he was on, he was at Congress. He has a, he has a pretty good fucking alibi. And why would you suspect him with that?
Starting point is 00:03:23 And they, by the way, Joe Biden. has been officially dead to them three or four times in the past month. Yeah. Yeah, I know. I've never really understood. Didn't that, did we talk about it on the show
Starting point is 00:03:32 or did you just send a text where it's like, they showed a picture of, they were like, this Joe Biden is clearly six inches taller than actual Joe Biden or something like that. And it's like, that seems like an odd choice
Starting point is 00:03:44 for a doppel ganger. Yeah. The deep state's so incompetent. They put Keith Van Horn in a fucking mask. They put a six nine guy in his Joe Biden. They literally thought, oh, this clone is seven, like they fucked up the cloning machine that made him eight inches too tall or whatever.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Joe Biden's already six foot tall. So like, like he literally playing the NBA, like you have to go to NBA player. So it's all just so fucking stupid. Yeah, I mean, it's like you said they, you know, like I, like again, I got on Twitter yesterday and just saw all this chicken little hand wringing shit about the stock market. And you know, and I'm stock dumb and everything. So I started looking into it. And I was like, is this like really the start of a, of a, is this going to be like, you know,
Starting point is 00:04:22 like Black Monday or something? because that would really not hit if that happens. And then even me being ignorant as hell about the markets and stuff. And I actually looked into like the amounts or whatever, you know, what it happened so far. Like I was like, well, this, I mean, this don't seem that back.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Like it seems like it's still pretty high, even though it's dropped as much. It's like they were just wanting it. I mean, like Bidenomics was trending and something about Kamala. They were blaming it on Kamala too. And, you know, this is what you're going to get.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Look here. This is what you're going to get. And it's like, it's like you said, they just, you look like Tim Walls and like, how can anybody not like this? guy. That's how I feel about it, but it's like, they just don't, they live in completely alternate
Starting point is 00:04:58 realities than, you know, the actual reality that we live in. And the reality, like, loops in us, too. Like, like, they got us with some disinformation, uh, recently. Like, we're, like, we're talking about the Olympic boxing controversy with, uh, Imman Khalif, sorry, from saying her name wrong, which is like, we've repeated some stuff about, like, her maybe being like, like, intersex or having, like, uh, you know, uh, male chromosomes or whatever, but that, which doesn't, means she's not like a biologically a woman or whatever, but like it's just not true or like we don't know if it's true because the, what had happened was the international boxing association had dinged her like like
Starting point is 00:05:36 basically overturned results of a match she'd won. Now, unless you follow women's boxing closely, which most people don't, you would not know that the IBA is like deeply controlled by by Russia and what she had done was she'd beaten a Russian fighters. They took it away from her. And you've got to also know like, how deeply Russia cares about international sport.
Starting point is 00:05:56 Like, their Olympic athletes, a lot of them are technically in the army. Like, they're paid full time to train by the government. And, like, the, the,
Starting point is 00:06:03 our current Cold War with them has a lot of starting points. But one of them is when Russian, like, Russia's doping program was uncovered by the world doping organization. And they, and Putin blamed Obama for it. Like the CIA got them dinged for fucking, for,
Starting point is 00:06:20 for dope and got them kicked out of the Olympics for, for, couple cycles and like we just like it took a while for anybody to figure out what the fuck it happened i know i mean i kept because i just saw so many different tweets and stuff for people just like literally just straight up calling or a man and all that so i mean at first i was like i was like is this person trans or is there and i saw the thing you said about oh she got a white chromosome maybe but she still was born with female genitalia but that and it's that also that was always their thing it's like wherever you're born with that's what you are right that's what
Starting point is 00:06:53 they're saying it's like well she's born with the vagina well she's still a man though she you know whoops too much ass right doesn't look classically feminine and a you know and a nice cop lady cried when she hit her too hard and now they just call her an abomination and it's also she's Algeria like you think Algeria is going to do that you know what I mean also the other side of that is like if they get that if they were successful in getting that rumor or whatever lie across then like you know that could have massive ramifications for her in a place like Algeria where it's not legal to be that.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Yeah, they kill her. So like the Trump's talking about it at rallies now. They just fully made this fake thing true. And even us is like people whose heart's in the right place trying to do, you know, defend, you know, trans people is not strange and trying to like defend this woman who's like, Russian athletes from the government's payroll while they train.
Starting point is 00:07:46 She had to like collect scrap metal to pay for a bus ticket to go to like the next city where she trains. Right. And it's like, but even then it's like, like no one can figure out what the fuck it takes a while to figure out what the truth is and everybody just jumps in and like sort of like it's not always going to be perfect i'd rather people be i know on the correct moral setting without all the facts but i do think the truth matters you know and like but the funny one is like so they just call everyone who disagrees with them trans like so there was a brief 12-hour period well cow written house said he wasn't voting for trump over the weekend he's he was going to write in ron johnson because trump was soft in the second amendment and they just started saying oh well carl riddenhouse has been trans this whole time they put out start a putting this shit out there like that he called written house was born a one and like so then he retracted and said he endorsed trumps i don't know if he's not trans anymore now or how this fucking shit works right but anyway in case you need any more proof of color written house is a coward
Starting point is 00:08:35 yeah it's also i just don't know how also i don't know how much more proof these people need that like you know there's not no honor amongst maga lunatics or whatever like they will turn on you immediately you know like at the drop of a hat and in a very brutal way without any horse. And so I just don't know why people continue to want to be part of that. I guess they just always think of themselves as the brutalizers and that appeals to them. Right. Never thinking they're going to be on the other end of it. But it's easy to do. It is like disinformation as a death threat as a weapon to get people to like it's like that's basically what they did to written house. And it's like, okay, everybody can see the playbook here now. Um, because that's what that's, you know, what they're
Starting point is 00:09:15 doing. And it's like gross and weird and it's fucking weird. And the word weird is overplayed right now. but like it's just true it's just to I've never once thought about Colorado and I'm not going to start now because you're trying to make me yeah please no please not that again I've had a good day so far I don't want to bring that into it all right listen producer Matt is with us this is weekly skews before we continue I want to remind you real quick go to traycrouter.com to check out my upcoming tour dates this weekend I'm going to be in Dallas Texas at the improv I'm filming these shows not all of them but a couple of them and with the hopes of putting it out later so it's a big week

Starting point is 00:10:26 Either way, works. $5 a month, get two full-link bonus episodes every month. So get some more skews in your life, support the show in the process. As we said, tonight, it's going to be a rare upbeat edition of weekly skews because Democrats keep doing good stuff, which is weird. Yeah, make a wish, everybody. They're on top of it, seemingly, as Kamala has made officially, her pick for running and is Minnesota governor, Tim Walls, as it turns out, seems to have been built in a lab
Starting point is 00:10:49 to hit for us. So, yeah, we're going to have fun talking about that. But first, we've got to do some dumbassery, daily dumbass. Matt, graphic, please. Tonight's DD retired bear cops for being haunted by the one case. They couldn't close. Bear cub is discovered dead in, of all places, Central Park. An apparent case of animal cruelty.
Starting point is 00:11:17 CBS 2's Matt Kozar has more on the bear mystery. In a popular section of Central Park, an unusual crime scene. Florence Slatkin says she was walking her dog this morning when she saw something furry underneath the bushes. Police say the three-foot-long black bear cub had stab and slash wounds and appears to have been dumped there. Adding to the mystery, Slatkin says the baby bear was lying on top of this bicycle, which police confiscated evidence. The bicycle was out to the bushes. Part of the bicycle was sticking out.
Starting point is 00:11:55 So, yeah, that's from 2014. If you were, that's from 2014. And if you were a New Yorker in 2014 when that was making the rounds in the news, I don't, I think I could have given you a million guesses and you wouldn't have landed on who it was. Although it does kind of make sense. It's just so wild that the perpetrator of that ended up being future presidential candidate R.F.K. Jr.
Starting point is 00:12:16 Yes. The New York, New Yorker magazine cracked the case with this photo. this photo mat, throw it up. Here's RFK Jr. fingering the mouth of a dead bear cub while his fly is open for some reason. That's the other, that was the second picture he took. You know what I mean? Did the hand first and then you know where it went from there. Yeah. Dude, what is with this guy and taking like, he's always got to get a photo op anytime there's a dead animal around him. You know what I mean? Like he's very enthusiastic about taking pictures with animal carcasses. There's, but the odds here, they're 11 million, what, 11 million people?
Starting point is 00:12:51 People who live in a New York metropolitan area, 20 million tourists passed through a year, and his RFK Jr. They fucking drop the dead bear. So let's start from the beginning here. So the New Yorker got to hold this photo, apparently from a friend, RFK sent it to, who RFK no longer hits for, so it went public with this story, all right? It's about his evolution as for him losing friend, whatever. So a fact checker from the magazine calls RFK Jr. to get a comment about it
Starting point is 00:13:19 and whether he wants to admit that it's true. He tries to try to get ahead of the story by filming himself explaining what happened to Roseanne Barr, of all people. He said he was driving upstate New York early one morning and take a group of people falconing. Every part of this is fucking dumber than last. He's going falconning to Hudson Valley when a driver in front of him hit the bear cub. He saw it die. So he pulled it up, he pulled it over and picked it up intending to take it home and butcher it and eat it. Which we're on record, eating roadkill's fine.
Starting point is 00:13:49 All right. We've talked about, like, the rare Republican, good Republican rural idea we've talked about is, like, people making it legal to be able to take roadkill home and eat it, which is like, otherwise it goes to waste, who the fuck cares? All right. So we're not going to, like, get way late, but talking about that part's weird. But then he got busy do falconing all day, leaving the bear carcass in his car, if he ended up rushed back to New York because he had a dinner reservation at Peter Lugar's Steakhouse.
Starting point is 00:14:13 The dinner took too long. He had this dead bear in his car, had to catch a flight, so he just dropped it in the park. and decided to leave a bicycle on top of it to frame a bicyclist for hitting the bear? Yeah, he said that at that time in New York, there was like a string of cycling accidents or something that had been happening. So he was like, oh, I know.
Starting point is 00:14:32 We'll make it look like a bike killed this bear. That's the other thing. I mean, in that news report we showed, they said the bear had been like stabbed and slashed and stuff. And he claims that it was hit by a van. Maybe that can make similar wounds. I don't know. I mean, it's a weird story either way.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Yeah, they were going about like what people looked at the scene. Well, they did all taps on the bear. They said it looked like it was a quick. At the time, in 2014, they said it looked like a card hit it. So he said, this is part, then as he put it, the little bit of redneck in me had an idea. And that's where he said he wasn't drinking, but his buddies, again, he's 60 years old at this point.
Starting point is 00:15:01 All right? This is not like, if you told me a story about you doing this when you're like 17 and drinking, I'd be like, yeah, sounds like a fun-ass story. Right. But like, this is not a fucking serious person. And you want to get to the real part of like how America actually works. Here's the original New York Times story. the byline which
Starting point is 00:15:20 Kairon blocks out here was Tatiana Schlossberg who is Caroline Kennedy's daughter wrote the New York Times story about the Bear Cup being found now what are the chances that the woman writing the story would be this cousin once removed
Starting point is 00:15:36 of her crackhead who did it yeah dude it's inside I mean yeah it's some like simulation type shit it's truly wild but I don't know what is next from RFK Jr. Like, where, you know, what is the next thing going to be? Is it even the top, top five weird story about a Kennedy having a dead body in their car?
Starting point is 00:15:56 Right. Like, what the fuck? Like, this whole family, man. It's just like, America has, like, he's run by, like, five families. And this ain't cool about this presidential election is, like, neither Kamala or Tim Walls are part of them. And that's cool. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:10 What's his, what's the latest with his, like, numbers and stuff? Do you know? Like, is it well, waning or? Yeah. Basically, when you see Kamala polling increasing, the bulk of it's coming from RFK. It was just for RFK voters who didn't want to vote. But typically third party voters come home as the election gets closer when they realize their votes are important, right? Nobody wants to waste, quote unquote, waste their vote.
Starting point is 00:16:34 So, like, that's part of it. But also, he's pretty clear evidence. He's taking more votes from Trump than he is from Kamala. So, like, we theorized that was a case. Now polling data shows it's true. And considering he's a sciop to help Trump get elected, I wonder how far he's going to push this. Right. so it's like it's very like the more and more as his voters turn to Kamala it becomes more and more true
Starting point is 00:16:55 so like it's like he's pretty much just a like a what do you call it a uh not a scab what's the term for it uh i don't know but they're ringer it's a ringer yeah a what a ringer they brought in a ringer he's a shitty ringer then because excuse me yeah because yeah i heard that the the trump packs or a campaign or somebody over there has been running ads framing him framing rfk junior as a like radical leftist progressive or whatever which seems to prove that they think he's taking votes away from him or whatever and uh but it's funny that like you said it was they were all for that in the first place so you know hoisted by their own ptard out here but anyway our first honorable mention for daily dumb asses people who wouldn't want a vehicular reminder of that time they almost got murdered this
Starting point is 00:17:45 the whole thing is something else. Go ahead. Am I going to close the door really quick? Just I want to show them the rap. Check out this rap. And let me know your honest thoughts. I think it's incredible. So this is a streamer named Aidan Ross.
Starting point is 00:18:02 Look at the dude standing right beside Trump right. Yeah. That's some other streamer or something, right? Yes. He's got like, is that Trump on his shirt? But it's like he's got a grill in? That's what I'm like, dude. Everything is so stupid.
Starting point is 00:18:15 over there, and it has been for a while. But yeah, this guy, Aidan Ross, I had, regrettably, I had heard of him somewhere along the way. He's like an Andrew Tate, Acolyte, acolyte. Acolyte. He's in, like, that whole world. Yes. And I did know that, again, unfortunately, but I didn't know that much about him until this week when he interviewed Trump and I started seeing these clips
Starting point is 00:18:35 from him and stuff. And like, buddy, I, the fact that this dude has apparently whatever, hundreds of thousands of millions of followers is truly disheartening because this guy is rot chewing stupid. Yes, we'll get that in a second. He's also evil, but that's a hold of it. But so anyway, he could play for a second. Matt, if you have a quiet,
Starting point is 00:18:53 the sound off, is that the Grinch? It sure does look like the Grinch. It could be like a tree or something. I don't want to fucking know what's going on. This whole thing is so goddamn strange. So Ross is permanently banned from Twitch for hateful conduct. Getting banned from Twitch for hateful.
Starting point is 00:19:11 Twitch exists to play video games and scream to Fessler, right? So the fact he's been banned from a hateful conda is pretty astounding. And this apparently came together because Baron Trump is a big fan of his. So there goes all hope for that kid. Maybe he'll grow out of it. To top it all off, he not only gave Trump this cyber truck. By the way, giving Donald Trump a cyber truck, this isn't my joke, but like could credibly be seen as a second assassination attempt. I can't get those motherfuckers guy.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Right. So the, uh, he gave him a cyber truck and a Rolex watch worth $3,300 bucks. both of those individually could be seen as campaign finance violations. Not that anybody would get any serious trouble for it. Trump would probably have to give back the truck and Ed Ross had to be like, I didn't really know this is a campaign finance violation.
Starting point is 00:19:54 Anyway, the fact of how dumb all these motherfuckers are. So if you don't know, again, going back to who Ross is, he streams with white supremacist, Nick Fuentes, who Trump also dines with. He's also made, done streams with Andrew Tate, who's very famous he has sex trafficker. And, like, Ross also accidentally snitched on Andrew Tate. He went live and said that
Starting point is 00:20:14 Andrew Tate was going to flee Romania to escape the sex trafficking charges, and that's what got him arrested. Just dumbest motherfuckers alive. So now he's streams on Kik, which is a gambling platform that doesn't moderate, as he says, we can do whatever the fuck we want. So what he does, like, here, do you want to know what his vibe is? His bit is sniffing his guest's chairs. Let me show you what I'm talking about.
Starting point is 00:20:37 That's even weird. Let's go. I'm like eye contact with you. Wow. Ew, why are you being so weird? So, just so you all know, he did that. I mean, you said it's his bit, but he did that. He sniffed Andrew Tate's chair too.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Yes. He's taken out of him and walked off. So he's an equal opportunity creep. He's bisexual with his creepiness. He's like, like, so like, this is them trying to beat the weird allegations. Right. He's having Trump stream with the guy who's such a funny way of looking at it because it's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Um, if you wonder what they talked about, Trump did his usual spiel about how the, he doesn't get Trump, the, uh, The country survives if Kamala beats him. He talked about how he once played Kim Jong-un, the Elton Jong song, Rocket Man. And before he became president, you weren't allowed to say Merry Christmas. I got it back. And then Ross was like, well, I'm Jewish. And Trump went on, well, even if you're Jewish, they like to say Merry Christmas.
Starting point is 00:21:32 Every one of my Jewish friends say, we love Merry Christmas. So one of the reasons Ross says he doesn't want to support Joe Biden is because Roe v. Wade was overturned while he was president. and a guy, I watched a stream of a guy politely trying to explain to him. That's not the dynamics of American politics or he controls the Supreme Court. Anyway, no of that matters.
Starting point is 00:21:51 Here, just to get a sense of how dumb he is, here's a clip of him trying to Google fascism to see if he is one. This is just for fun. What does a fascist need? It means you are a far-right authorization on you on ultradic ultra ultralitat oh my god ultra analatist analyst political ideology movement characterized by dictator of leadership
Starting point is 00:22:24 centralized autocracy militarism forcible suppression suppression of opposition so I don't know what that means right I swear to God I don't know what the fuck of fascism is I don't know what the fuck that is Benito Missouli and Givenile Genital and Jason You're just trying to say ultra-nationalist, authoritarian, and Benito Mussolini, and he didn't know any of the fuck any of those were. Just like, just like grade A premium brain content there. These guys all deserve each other.
Starting point is 00:22:53 It does make you think that like a lot of these people really are just, and I'm not saying this like as a, like in the defense or whatever, but they're like genuinely too dumb to know how shitty they are or whatever. And it's like how do you, how can you, how can anyone ever possibly penetrate? that you know what i mean they're too dumb to it don't matter what you do what approach you take or whatever reaching people that are that fucking stupid it's just not ever going to work i mean he's a kid like he probably could be redeemable in the future if he hadn't recorded himself on the internet for hundreds of hours being a fucking asshole moron right right it's just like we probably ought to delete the internet pretty much the message of this show uh this episode so all right you want to get into some tim wall stuff please all right so to set the move
Starting point is 00:23:42 let's watch this video clip, which I think we showed having the show before. Tim Wall's being embraced by kids at a school named Webster Elementary after he signed a bill providing free school meals. One of my favorite policies that Americans government can do, which refuses doing a lot of occasions. He signed the bill
Starting point is 00:23:58 into law and watch those kids get excited and hug him. Law. Oh, my eyes. Oh, yeah, look at that. That's the vibe. That's the vibe. I saw somebody on Reddit say they were like, after these and a bunch of other posts about him or whatever,
Starting point is 00:24:29 they're like, how's this guy even real? This is like if Santa was a politician or something. Also, did you see the picture of Sarah Huckabee Sanders signing in the send the kids back to the coal mines law which they also she was surrounded by children
Starting point is 00:24:47 and they look like all of her twist characters except for whatever it's a very funny juxtaposition also sad but I remember the juxtaposition going viral
Starting point is 00:24:56 because I think those two bills happened the same week it's pretty effective contrast between like two very different approaches to public policy and how the children feel about it so
Starting point is 00:25:05 to signal what a just as a sign of what a win this pick is I saw effusive, effusive fucking endorsements from both Joe Manchin, L. and Ilhan Omar, all right? Which are two people that don't agree on anything except for Tim Walz hits. Nancy Pelosi was a big force behind making this happen because he's a former member of the House who was pretty effective and she liked working with him, which is like when you're talking about getting legislation passed, which is what he's good at, that's good. It's good to be able to do that to pass laws. And as a contrast to this, every fucking consultant and we.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Pulling Quantner thought it was obvious that it should be Josh Shapiro, who we're going to get to all this in a little bit. But they had a big rally in Philadelphia that's packed the gills. Josh Shapiro gave a speech endorsing the both from the before an case anyone's wondering if there's any hard feelings about this. And something we've been hammering on this show. I've said people should just say this talking about abortion, trans health care, whatever. I mean, quote him here, even if we wouldn't make the same choice for ourselves, there's a golden rule.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Mind your own damn business. Very American thing to say, all the papaws stood up and clapped who were still. open to persuasion at this point. Right. And I'm just wondering if like whoever, whoever's making these decisions, calmless team, whatever consultants aren't like centrist-pilled or like status quo pilled, who aren't poisoned by, like, I've been rewatching VEP. It's a very funny thing.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Like, it's a bit where they're waiting for polling data to come in to see if they should rescue American hostages who've been captured overseas. There's a ton of people in politics who don't get why that's funny. right why wouldn't you do that you know that's what you got to do you got to get the numbers first yeah it's always the numbers people and everything and it's like it's just felt like for years as someone on the left that like they just don't ever seem to listen to you know the constituents or the people the actual voters or whatever instead they listen to whatever donors lobbyists the people the consultants the all that shit they it just seems like that's what's been
Starting point is 00:27:09 driving them for so long, which is hard what's so maddening about it. And like, now it doesn't seem like that, which is weird and lovely. There's a part of this. We're like, because you and I working comedy and show business, whatever you want to call it, like, we know that like how you say stuff and who's saying it is just as important, if not more so, is what you're saying. Right. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I mean, there's a very famous comedian whose name I won't say right now because I don't know if they want to be quoted but like I was he was like we're talking backstage once about a guy he felt bad for his career was struggling and he was like I feel bad for him because I can sell a shitty joke and he can't even sell a good one right and so like
Starting point is 00:27:49 you people can be moved by a person they trust making a case to them right to act like the polling data tells you we should do instead of making an argument and then trying to move the polling data has always always been fucking weird to me and I feel like for the first time stuff just doing things the way that you have been doing them because it's the way you're supposed to do them because you have been doing them that way. It's like whatever happened in D.C. It's like a bunch of people got the flowers for Algernon surgery. You ever read that book? No, I know what it's about, but I've not actually read it. Yeah, it's about a guy, like it's written as the first person as a guy who gets, he's mainly handicapped and he gets a surgery to fix it. And so it's a very
Starting point is 00:28:28 sad book because surgery's temporary. Anyway, whatever. Yeah, that's why I never read it's because it's always brought up as being famously heartbreaking or whatever. And I just, you know, I don't really need to be sadder. It's a great book, but I'm sorry enough. I just hope this, I just hope this surgery isn't temporary. Right. I know, well, that is, you are kind of, you can't help but kind of like wait for the other shooter drop at some point, right?
Starting point is 00:28:47 I mean, I was thinking it was going to be this. And look, I would have got behind Shapiro. I totally would have, but like, it just seemed like the classic move they would make. It felt like everybody was, everybody except, you know, the Nate Silvers or whatever were wanting not that to happen. And it just felt like a classic Democrat move for that to happen. And it hasn't. So it's like, well, you know, just keep this up.
Starting point is 00:29:09 There's a long way left to go. Just keep doing good things. We keep making good decision. If you really want to beat, if you really want to beat fascism, the answer to that is progress. Like, countries are like a shark. You have to keep moving forward. You fucking die. And like, like, so you got to think differently and do stuff differently and try.
Starting point is 00:29:28 Like, so anyway, Wall is the first non-lawyer and a Democratic ticket since Jimmy Carter. All right. And they skipped straight from a lawyer to a former. geography teacher and football coach who's not just a veteran, he's not a special forces guy or a general, who was enlisted guy who was like an artillery sergeant. All right?
Starting point is 00:29:45 Not only that. He took, he was defensive coordinator for his high school's football team when he was, like, here's a quote from him, all right? Macado West, the school he coached had lost 27 consecutive games before Walls got there.
Starting point is 00:29:59 And again, not to give him all credit for that. He was defensive coordinator or out to head coach or whatever. He was part of a team to turn us around. He said, quote, we said, this is nonsense. turn this thing around three years later we were state champions now they're a powerhouse yes this is nonsense let's turn this fucking thing around is the whole goddamn message exactly right 100% yeah um roll with that also for people that aren't you know like i'm assuming i don't know
Starting point is 00:30:22 at all but i'm assuming that's like a smaller high school team i don't know it may not be my high school was god awful for the my friend like and they've gotten better in recent years but losing 27 games in a row is nuts dude like that two almost three straight years of not winning a single game and then in three years time from there to win a state championship and turn around completely is just as a sports fan I'm just saying very genuinely impressive they're the total enroll mother high school is about a thousand kids so way bigger like twice the size of my hill high school but not big in the grand scheme of things right but when I was in high school our football team. famously suck too we would go like two and eight in a good year and get our ass kicked by seven touchdowns that are fucking homecoming game and these in small towns these are points of civic pride it hurts it sucks yeah sure does so like it means something their community to like have your boy have the local boys do good right and so like well it's just for comparison's sake to dunk on jd for a second so we got we got an all-american midwestern boy big boy football football champ
Starting point is 00:31:28 What's J.D. into? Here's a Fox News reporter talking about an interview with his wife, Ushah, this week. I want him to explain what the dorky habits he had. Did she explain? She hesitated. I said, you know, what are the dorky interests that he has? And she hesitated, and she said he's going to kill me for saying this, but it's Magic the Gathering, which was a card game.
Starting point is 00:31:49 And some of the guys know about it. Now, listen, okay, I'm all four going after J.D. And I don't play magic, but not because I wouldn't be into it. I just haven't ever got around to, but just, I'm just saying, as a, you know, as a dork myself, you know, I'm not, I'm not insulting, I'm not insulting the D&D adjacent community. You guys do whatever you want. I like nerdy shit. Although, have you ever seen, like, clips and pictures and stuff for Magic the Gathering tournaments? I mean, it's pretty damning, dude. It's funny. There was this guy one year that, like, he went and he took a picture. He had his friend take a picture of him, like, doing a prayer pose beside every, uh, exposed butt crack that he saw at the at the tournament and he took like 50 pictures or something so it's 50 pictures of him like posing by exposed butt cracks because everybody's butt crack just be hanging out in magic gathering tournaments anyway it's not a great look but you know again I could probably get down with it I just I just thought the fact this is the jock nerd election right we get the jock and they can stop of the nerd is fucking funny to me that's great about it yes also just like they're both like rural Americans too and and and and And, you know, Wals are like- D-D grew up in suburban Ohio with a mom who's a registered nurse and a household that made like the equivalent of $175,000 in household income in today's dollars.
Starting point is 00:33:11 So I just want to push bad. I'm not saying that any of that's bad. Registered nurses are cool. They should get paid well. I'm just saying he's white trash. He's stealing valor. Right. Our potty meat people.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Either way, he like, you know, actively hates rural Americans. and everything they're about, and it seems to have nothing but disdain for them, ultimately. And then this other, and then the Democrat, you know, has walked the walk his whole life by everything we can tell. So, yeah. We're not, we're doing vibes, not substance tonight, but like, like, but in general, I mean, vibes are a substance. Unfortunately, in democracies for, for a lot of people who don't know how to talk to regular
Starting point is 00:33:49 people, to win votes, you have to inspire people, not just give them a bullet point presentation about things you do for them. I wish elections were conducted via, like, a PowerPoint presentation and like a white paper. and everybody would read them, but it doesn't really work that way, especially when you've got to raise money and get to volunteers. But anyway, so, like, he's like, we're talking about, like, legislation defending gay people and abortion, some green stuff, some gun safety laws.
Starting point is 00:34:13 And he's done all this legalization of recreational weed, driver's license for undocumented in Minnesotaans, restoration of voting rights for former felons, universal school meals, which he talked about. He's accomplished all this with no, like, he has like a one-vote majority in his, state house all right right this has been pure just fucking we know the right thing to do we want to do it and if we lose one seat over it over some over over fucking republicans calling me a socialist
Starting point is 00:34:38 for active using the government to try to help people then our all our careers is done we'll do the good stuff we'll make our case and let the voters fucking decide all right and he won re-election so let me read this cool here because this is this is this is really where why i'm a big fan has to boil down to a single sentence you don't win elections to bank political capital you win elections to burn political capital and improve lives. That's Tim Walls. So for all the ideological stuff tossed around this vice presidential pick and people were going to the mattresses over it, and I would have been, you know, been okay with Shapiro if
Starting point is 00:35:09 that had been the choice. But I think most Democrats and left-leaning people just wanted someone to seem like it gave a damn about the purpose of politics, which is improving people's lives. We forget that. That's the fucking point. Let me quote here. He's a statement he had a couple years ago titled, The Economy is a Garland. garden, not a jungle. The idea that you're somehow more fiscally irresponsible by not investing
Starting point is 00:35:32 in education, healthcare, and transportation makes a nice political talking point, but it makes no sense. Now we could have a better educated, healthier workforce that lives longer, contributes more to the economy. That's what a forward-leading vibrant Minnesota economy looks like don't take the bait. Yes. I think it's cool that the guy who thinks that way has been selected by the party to be the face of it for a while or the co-face of it to much of the country for a while because that's correct.
Starting point is 00:36:01 We're not, it's a scarcity mindset to have us all fighting over scraps while billionaire is still the rest. Right. And Democrats have spent so many years being, from the outside appeared to be stuck in like all this reactive state of gridlock
Starting point is 00:36:15 reaction to culture war bullshit instead of ignoring it and just passing bills to help you. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but it's, You know, I mean, it's like the whole thing in Minnesota, like you said, he has a one vote majority in his statehouse there and he managed to get all this great stuff done. But it also makes you just think about how screwed so many other states are because of like the stranglehold that like Republicans have on a lot of like state level, you know, capital buildings or whatever.
Starting point is 00:36:40 And it's just a real show because that's, I mean, that's the thing. It's obstruction. I mean, I think it's impressive what the Biden administration was able to get done considering the circumstances, you know, our Senate and everything. because it's just, it makes it hard. I feel like you're 100% right about how the Democrats, they have been, like, reactive and get, they get roped into the culture wars shit and all this stuff. But it's like when they tried to do things, you know, here and there,
Starting point is 00:37:06 it's just all this obstructionist bullshit keeps it from happening. But you got to. Right. I'm not saying. But they got, like, harp on that. I feel like, we, we want to, you know, do things that actually help people, improve people's lives, you know, and they just want to scream about stuff that grosses them out.
Starting point is 00:37:23 whatever and fear monger and they have no solutions to anything they just bitch about various problems most of which they fabricate completely out of thin air so and like one thing I think is cool about like like I'm not saying don't fight the culture wars people need to be stood up for I'm saying you don't need to negotiate on it or meet people halfway on it you say nope that's fucking bullshit like Andy Bashir vetoed a bunch of anti-trans legislation he was asked about it like and he would probably be my second favorite pick he was like nope all children are god's children I'm not going to fucking negotiate of the humanity
Starting point is 00:37:54 I'm paraphrasing but that's basically that's how you fight it you do not go well we'll do some we'll do some anti-trans stuff but not the worst stuff that's not how you do it
Starting point is 00:38:03 you just fucking don't play the game and also this is this is a good reminder that like the Democrats are a wide coalition right they're not a unified political party like Republicans are no we've talked about a bunch before
Starting point is 00:38:15 every state party is not the same all right one of the reason picking walls is good is because like yeah you've got a prosecutor lawyer how about a small town teacher right they're also democrats don't do you don't want to pick a second lawyer like Shapiro we'll get to that in a second but like like the democrats like the democrats in the Midwest and we've because we focus on a lot of like making fun of people and complaining here we'll try
Starting point is 00:38:38 to bring it up during a good news segments but like Michigan Democrats Minnesota Democrats have gotten so much fucking shit done in comparison to like California Democrats who have had a unified state government since the dawn since dinosaurs walked around the the The fucking, you know, the, what do you call it? LeBriottar Pits? The Bratarr Pits. And what they've done some decent stuff. We do have universal school.
Starting point is 00:39:01 But it's like the, like their focused moment, like Governor Newsom, Gavin Newsom, who's the fucking devil incarnate, just urged a bunch of like homeless camp roundups. Yeah. While Tim Walls is giving kids free lunch. I'm like, the parties are not the same. And like picking a Midwestern Democrat is cooler to me. And considering the reason Gavin Newsom. does stuff like round up and harassed homeless people is trying to become president or vice president
Starting point is 00:39:27 and everyone just told him to fucking eat shit that rules you don't need to play the game that way and you don't need to stuck in their box and here's Tim Walls pretty much refuting all this fucking dumb you're a big government liberal bullshit in like one quick video but we can get out there reach out make the case and for one thing don't ever
Starting point is 00:39:49 don't ever shy away from our progressive values one person's socialism is another person's neighborliness but we can get out there yes i also like how he he had a similar thing with uh oh actually sorry this is coming up in a minute but still we're like jack tapper brought up and said they call you a people say you're this like hardcore big government progressive liberal or whatever and he said something like he was like oh what a monster i feed kids and let them and make their own choices or whatever you know it's like yeah if that's what if that's what being a monster is then fine that can call me that i don't care because yeah that's what we're doing and yeah and the thing is like he's saying like basically the line of the
Starting point is 00:40:26 question questioning was Jake Tapper was interrogating him over spending taxpayer money on taxpayers right if he had done it some boondoggle that supported some stupid crypto project that went under immediately no one would have questioned him in all about it except for like us right do you know just like just like said the taxpayer dollars it's like one of those things you know for example free school lunches it's like it seems it it's wild it it feels like it should be very hard to find any person who would have a problem with that usage of taxpayer dollars, you know what I mean, feeding children so they can learn and get back and all that. But, you know, I know that a lot of them are against it because whatever, it's wasteful. A lot of them don't even
Starting point is 00:41:05 need it. And the ones that are poor, they don't need to eat anyway. Fuck them. Their parents should hit harder. And it's just, uh, it's just so baldly evil and assholeish. And I know Walls has also made the case, which is true that like those types of things are like, they're also good. That's what drives me crazy by how much they hate education, all this stuff. It's like, this is all good for the economy that you love so much. Like, make people better, you know, like nourish them and then make them, you know, better and smarter and more productive members of the society that we all live in and those types, you know, and who not. They'll make even more money for everybody in the future, you know, but they don't want that. They just want like drones, wage slaves, mindless wage slaves that can just order around or, you know, just literal slaves would be cool with them too.
Starting point is 00:41:49 But, yeah, it's frustrating. I've never understood, like, even from, every time there's an immigration debate, it would be like, well, immigrants are good for the economy, which is true, but also people would be like, well, you shouldn't say that because it, like, you shouldn't kill them even if they're bad for the economy. I'm like, yes, I absolutely agree with you. But it's important to also make a utilitarian case for a lot of stuff because it persuades voters who were otherwise sociopaths. But also it's like even to a government that doesn't care whether you live or die, it's good for national security, i.e. the defense of the government to have an educated, well-fed, healthy, you know, workforce and army. Right. The reason everybody wants to conquer Ukraine is because it's the world's breadbasket or army fights in its stomach. Right. They're at history. And the idea that every time someone politician brings up Cuba having a high literacy rate in a good health care system with low infer mortality, it's a scandal. Like you're praising communism. It's like, no. Fidel just knew if he wanted to survive, he needed people that could fucking read so they'd be able to build weapons and fight.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Right. It wasn't like, it was because of CIA was trying to kill him. And like, maybe if we had a better fed, better educated fucking workforce, we could have successfully killed Castro. Not that we should have. I'm just saying, like, you guys are,
Starting point is 00:43:03 everyone's missing the point by a goddamn mile, right? Yeah. And it's like, the kids, the kids you're feeding could cure your cancer. That's a pretty straightforward case. And even if you're a selfish, asshole you should want to feed the kids.
Starting point is 00:43:20 And all day, I've seen people talk about whether Tim Walls was too progressive for the American electorate at writ large being talked about by cable news anchors and pundits who are all fucking millionaires. And I'm just telling people to get out because no one thinks this way out in the real world. No one thinks along a strict left-right axis. If they can successfully brand him as a leftist radical, yes, he'll probably be a drag on the ticket. But that's your choice how you talk about it. Do you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:43:45 He's not a leftist radical. Also, I just feel like, I just feel like that's going to be hard to do if people actually, like, pay attention to him when he speaks and following and everything. You know what I mean? Because that's what's, like, great about him also, in my opinion, is like, he isn't like an avowed progressive, but he's the type that, like, he doesn't scare pap balls and stuff for small town people. You know what I mean? Like, he's like he can get it across. I feel like he can communicate to them, like progressive policies are things that help you. It's not about turning kids into cats and shit.
Starting point is 00:44:15 it's about feeding them and they'll listen to him you know like they'll take it coming from a guy like him i think he just doesn't read as you know a purple hair purple-haired californian or whatever whatever they think of when they think of like progressives and that's part of what you know his appeal is and the degree that the quant nerds who live in dc in new york don't get it is kind of been hilarious he confounded to me you brought up nade silver who was like i thought sheper would definitely be the pick because he you know is like there's a one point better in Pennsylvania and like there's a stat flag graphical floating around social media it's like if Democrats win Pennsylvania there's a 91% chance of winning the election which is correlation is a
Starting point is 00:44:58 causation and that that information is not telling you what you think what it tells you that like the way polling demographics works is if you win Pennsylvania means you all probably also won Winston right Michigan to Wisconsin right if you pick somebody wins you Pennsylvania but loses you Michigan or Wisconsin, then you're fucking toast. It's not telling you what you think is what I think is telling you. But anyway, it's a really stupid way to think about it because doing something different could expand your coalition. Does anyone occur, has that occurred to anybody as opposed to trying to move like half
Starting point is 00:45:28 a percent of the margins? You move 5 percent by inspiring them. The funniest one I saw was this Bloomberg business columnist and political pundit, quote tweet a Tim Walls video. He makes these videos where he like, He was telling somebody how to fix their headlight with eight bucks from Napa auto parts if you drive a Ford, right? And this guy quote tweeted him. It was like, I don't relate to this guy at all.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I've never looked under the hood of my car and never will. And I was like, the fact you think you understand anything about American politics is fucking astounding to me. Yes, that part for this, those got the guys that are like, I don't know, a dude like that being a conservative and just being. opening up front about being like a rich asshole. He's a live. He's a lib, I think. Oh, I thought you said he was like a business analyst. Right. Right. For Bloomberg. Right. But he wanted Shapiro. He's offended
Starting point is 00:46:27 I just certainly was a conservative when you said that. Well, yeah, okay. Well, no, that's definitely worse. Yeah, that's type of like yeah, out of the, that's like the actual elitist, you know, liberals that do exist, which I also find annoying even as right. It's like you're, You're not helping, bro.
Starting point is 00:46:44 The rest of us just want to feed poor kids. You're not here being like, I've never, I couldn't jump my car in a million years. It's like, Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up for a minute. So is that him just being like this guy's a fucking hick and we don't, he shouldn't be a leader? Like, is that what? Like, he was trying to push. Everyone was saying Tim Walls is so relatable. And he was trying to be like, I don't get it.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Yeah. He's like, right. So like, so like, and one of the complaints was, like, can you, I saw like, like, centrist stem pundits in DC being like, you can't pick walls because he didn't even go to an elite college. it's like bro do you not get what the fuck you sound like or what you're even saying does it occur to you that somebody might want to go to harvard or yale right the fact they would like he uses GI bill benefits to put himself through a state school is a ding to you a huge number of american voters probably on both sides but certainly like would definitely prefer that someone didn't go to harvard usually if they find out you went to harvard they're like well you're a snooty asshole then like they don't think like oh i'll give you all my money and just let you run everything because obviously you're way smarter than me. They think like if my fucker thinks he's better than everybody else. Let fucking like everybody, people that went to Harvard got us into Vietnam, Iraq, because
Starting point is 00:47:51 the $20,000 financial collapse. Can you fucking, how about give somebody who went to like Eastern Minnesota State University fucking gave it a shot for once? I did this, I did this private event once that had a bunch of like Ivy League people in it and I did a bit about like how I was like I just went to Tennessee Tech University. But what is cool about that is that when I go to my reunion, there's not like Ted Cruz and the Unabomber and shit there. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:48:12 I don't have to like toast to a bunch of evil motherfuckers who also went to my school because that didn't happen. But yeah, anyway, you know, they laughed. They were cool about it. But that was fun. Did you see it got, the ad got pulled, but did you just see the Google artificial intelligence ad that was running during the Olympics?
Starting point is 00:48:29 I don't know. I've been watching the Olympics, so I might have seen it, but I didn't notice. It was an ad about some guy having his daughter use AI to write a letter to an Olympic athlete about how he wrote like his daughter thought he was. And I saw it as like, this is fucking gross. I saw all the people talking about how it's gross.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Turns out it was so everyone else in the world thought it was so gross that the ad got pulled and they had to turn YouTube comments off on it because everyone's like, what the fuck? The point of writing a letter to your hero is for your daughter to express herself what she finds inspiring about that person so she can sort through her own thoughts and emotions and values. Not have a computer fucking do it so the athlete gets a better letter. Right.
Starting point is 00:49:04 You're missing the point. Anyway, the world's run by people who put that ad out. Right. yeah they've never met a regular person or what they care about and it's like it's so fucking weird to me so finally democrats showed some spine and political imagination and doing something different and all the worst people in the world to get paid six figures to do stuff do the political equivalent of putting it on that google a i ad we're furious about it and like you brought up it's not that walls of some left-wing ideologue is a pragmatist he looked at a problem he looked at
Starting point is 00:49:33 the levers that i have at my disposal to try to solve this problem and pull those levers Some of those are going to be left wing sometimes When your job is working as the governor of a state So like Also like So we're about to get to like Stories about his affableness and people around him Like him respecting him
Starting point is 00:49:54 And like when you're a teacher You cannot hide it if you're a fucking asshole Like kids are around you every day For a whole school year Your coworkers are around you They're going to know what you're about right And also that's part of the reason I'm not worried about him dealing with the Republicans throughout this process because he was like a high school teacher
Starting point is 00:50:11 for years or whatever so you know he knows how to deal with petulants he's already he's already he's got he's got years of experience with that already so he's already got to spiel about how you don't you don't be afraid of fascist because they're just bullies and as a high school teacher I know bullies are just fucking cowards right so like like like the video is like helping people repair their cars like hanging out the state fair the stories about him pulling over and helping people pull their cars out of ditches and snowstorms and stuff, like, that's utterly normal. That's normal. It's not small town normal. It's everyone, everybody, it's normal to want to help your neighbors. And, like, there's a whole chunk of Americans just wiped out of the
Starting point is 00:50:50 public, like, like, you're not going to make a TV show about a guy that fucking pulls his neighbors out of a ditch with his car, right? It's also not going to make the news. And if you watch the news, if you just got, everything you thought about America was from the TV news or from TV shows you'd think we live in Breaking Bad or you think we live in The Purge or it's all gun fights and yes there's too much gun violence and stuff but like we're way closer to like something like Abbott Elementary than we are the purge it's a bunch of people who fucking like who like will be like go over the neighbor and be like hey yes your grass needs to be cut can I do that for you or like oh this laboratory needs money let's let's let's start a bake sale to raise
Starting point is 00:51:25 the money for it that's utterly normal to be surrounded by people like America's full of people are civically minded, a coaster daughter's softball team who run bake sales. My mom's church, a cool thing they do is they basically have a construction team that like when somebody like needs a wheelchair ramp put on their houses, go over and do it, right? Yeah, I've told this story a bunch that's in my book and everything. But the brief, when my dad died, I was, I had two babies and, you know, I was working for the federal government, but I had student loan debt. I did not have my, I was living paycheck to paycheck very much, but I was going to have to pay for the funeral or whatever. And after his funeral was over, I walked into the office to find out
Starting point is 00:51:59 what the damage was and how we're going to handle this payments I was going to make or whatever. And I walked in there and the guy said, you don't know us anything. And I was like, what do you mean? And he said, everybody in town like chipped in and, you know, paid for it. So it got paid for it completely so you don't have to worry about it. And, uh, you know, a lot of those people like hate socialism. Everything like has a concept or like politicians are into that type of thing. But it's like, but then they'll do that.
Starting point is 00:52:23 And it's like I just don't know how things have gotten, you know, so twisted in that way. It's like, would you think, we're just. pretty much every time the government does anything to help anybody in America, it becomes communism coded, right? And when you're running to be in charge of the government, that feels weird to me because what else you're going to fucking do? If you're not going to help people, you're going to hurt people. But I guess a lot of them, oh, I guess a lot of them like basically don't even want there to be a government hardly, you know, except obviously the military or whatever. But I guess it's like, if government isn't meant to help people, what's it meant to do?
Starting point is 00:52:52 And they would be like, well, fuck government. We don't even like government unless it's, like you said, unless it's hurting the people that we don't like. We do like that, in which case, give them all the power in the world. I was thinking about, Wall has made me think about my granddad. I just got a lot of people thinking about their granddad's right now. But like my grandfather, like, there was no fire department. So he had a bunch of his buddies started a volunteer fire department. He volunteered to be the chief of it because no one else wanted the job, right?
Starting point is 00:53:18 He chaired a committee that raised money to build a community center so the people in the community could have a pool to swim at and a softball field to play softball lawn. And once a week, they all got together and played softball. rank beer on it. People, it used to be, it's normal to do this shit. That's all Tim Walts is. Right. That's true. And like, so like, here's a, we talked last week about how, like, he chose to, um, like,
Starting point is 00:53:42 he chose to be the sponsor of the Gay Strait Alliance at his school. When he was school, he was a football coach at in the 1990s. And this is when he was still enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard and he was still defensive coordinator of the high school football team. Some kids wanted to start the Gay Strait Alliance. And this was three years after Bill Clinton had signed. a law forbidding same-sex marriage. And we quote here,
Starting point is 00:54:01 soldiers suspected being gay and Walz's his own unit could be discharged from the military as a vector and don't ask, don't tell. When he was asked about it, he was running for governor. He said he'd seen the bullying some students endured
Starting point is 00:54:13 and agreed to be the group's faculty advisor. And this is a really interesting take on identity politics because this is the way you should do it as a fucking straight white person. All right. It had to be him to do it, according to him,
Starting point is 00:54:26 but it quote, it really needed to be the football. coach who was the soldier and was straight and was married. In other words, he could be a symbol that disparate worlds could coexist peacefully. All right. The fact that no one thought he was secretly gay was the whole point of why he had to be the guy to sponsor the gay straight alliance, all right? Which is a like a cool way to think about it in 1990 fucking nine.
Starting point is 00:54:47 Yeah, absolutely. Way ahead of his time. And this is like, so Washington Post reporter was posting anecdotes he learned trying to report into Walls's background. Let me quote here. One thing I learned reporting on wall, it's just funny too. This is like a couple hidden teacher stories.
Starting point is 00:55:02 One thing I learned reporting on walls of teaching years is that when he coached the middle school basketball team, he secretly lowered a hoop and convinced his team that he could dunk. At one, those kids need some tutoring. There's the way Tim Wall has ever talked to basketball. But another bit he would do is someone fell asleep in class. He'd take a picture of them when they woke up,
Starting point is 00:55:19 their picture would be projected on the wall and embarrass them about him not sleeping anymore. That's just fun teacher shit. There's also a thing. I just think stories from teachers and kids are important because like these like we'll never know the new most politicians who never know the real them i think kids have a good handle on it they try to play this prank on him um me uh a former teacher they would do this bit where they would uh give a new teacher a fake gift certificate for a free turkey
Starting point is 00:55:43 from the local grocery store um this is a you know a very midwestern prank so you'd go down there and try to redeem the this gift certificate for the free turkey and be embarrassed the motherfucker went down there with his fake gift certificate and walked out with the free turkey So that's gift of gab shit there. Art of the deal, baby. Yeah, yeah. That's a deal-making son of a bitch. Probably the best one I saw, and I have a sweet spot for teachers because my mom was one.
Starting point is 00:56:07 A former student said he cared about me and made learning fun, right? He's the guy. His kid said he was a C student. Now, I was reading up on the history of the rise of the Taliban. It's a fun segue. And Mola Omar. And the thing about Mola Omar, and this is not a defense of Mopalobo. Omar saying the Taliban hits.
Starting point is 00:56:28 It's like the story goes, his origin story, and this might be apocryphal because there aren't detailed history records kept in rural Afghanistan, and the Taliban has interest in turning him to like a myth, a murder, right? But the story goes, he was equivalent of a small town preacher and a local warlord kidnapped
Starting point is 00:56:44 two girls from his town. He was like, nah, fuck this shit, and he got a gun and a couple buddies, went and got the girls back, strung up the asshole, and then was a local hero for it. And then he captured that guy's guns. I was like, wait a minute. you guys are on my side now you want to take these guns and join up
Starting point is 00:56:58 and they're like yeah the point being not that you should do that for Taliban purposes the point is when you help people and you're good to them they will ride or die with you and it's possible that both Mullah Omar and Tim Walls
Starting point is 00:57:11 have better instincts than a lot of people have been run the Democratic political establishment for the last fucking couple of decades that is such a Mark parallel or analogy or whatever you want to call it it's truly great that's what we all love about you smart Mark
Starting point is 00:57:24 Listen, we got a couple minutes left. I do have to get out of it right on time. I want to let y'all know. And listen, I know this. I literally just found out earlier today about another Zoom event called Rural Americans for Harris or for Kamala or whatever. And I'm going to do that too. Starting point is 00:57:40 I mean, I'll probably talk about some of the stuff we've just been talking about. But anyway, whenever we're done, if y'all want to Google that, I guess. Again, I'm sorry, I don't know more about it. I just got asked and said I would do it anyway. Y'all's boy, Trey, was on Zoom with John Hamm last night. yeah comics for comedy yes i was easily at least famous person on there was a bunch of superstars and me that was weird but you know weird it was cool anyway uh but yeah uh that's fun and look i i hate i enjoy doing a positive episode every now and then and i i feel uncomfortable fan boying out
Starting point is 00:58:12 of a fucking politicians having a paris social relationship drew had the even drew was excited about wall but yeah the funniest take and if he's gonna use it on stage laugh when you hear it but he was like the now at least gay people will die penniless like the rest of us and not in prison that's the I was like yeah but it's like so but it's like it's like it's not that everything gets it's like there's a path to fucking saving the country and making things better right this is probably what the path looks like and it doesn't mean that tim walls is perfect we could go into his congressional record which like winning in a red ass district required some compromises and we didn't even get to the josh superior part of this like i once again prep way too much show
Starting point is 00:58:49 but like they they it's just like it it's good that they tried something new and different because the old way wasn't working is my point so yeah yeah absolutely and it's why i'm just glad that they like eventually somehow learned that lesson and like took their out thing away from it again seemed to be doing well so far and i just hope that they keep it up because the energy the vibes the momentum it's all pretty immaculate right now feels like things are you know trending upward for the first time in a while and it's it's nice to see so yeah thank you all for watching we appreciate it so like i said earlier you go to trey crowder dot com and check out my upcoming tour dates especially if you're anywhere near dallas come see me this weekend if you can make it one to one of the
