Starting point is 00:01:23 just like sitting in, listening to your friends chat about all the tips and tricks and secrets and best and worst of beauty. So I really, really love this episode. And I absolutely adore my guest, Jenner Renert. So she is kind of the ultimate internet beauty BFF. She and I had been following each other on social for a while. And it was so fun to just get to sit down and talk all things beauty. So she really knows her stuff. Okay. She is a beauty fashion and wellness expert. She's a contributing editor at Vogue. She previously was the beauty editor at vogue.com for seven years. That's huge. When she was there, she oversaw beauty, health, and fitness verticals, writing and editing, celebrity trend,
Starting point is 00:02:16 and market-driven stories, all while searching for the world's newest and coolest products to feature on the site. She is an on-air correspondent and hosts live red carpet events, recently covering the Met Gala and the Tony Awards for Vogue magazine's live stream. and she's kind of a beauty junkie just like myself. So we had so much fun talking about everything from best and worst beauty trends. We talk about her healthy hair secrets, lash secrets. That's something I don't think I've ever talked about on the episode. I learned so much from her you'll hear in this episode.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I was like, what? Wow. We talked about her experience, working for Vogue and being a beauty editor. We talk about body skin care. another thing that I haven't really explored on the podcast before. We talk about her minimalist skincare routine, which I think you guys will appreciate because not everybody wants to do my 20 million step morning and nighttime routines. We talk about drugstore products, what's in our bags, ride or die makeup products, Botox, laser, face massage, upcoming products and trends.
Starting point is 00:03:26 It's just a jam-packed episode. So I hope you guys enjoy Jenna Renner. And go follow her because her TikTok and her Instagram, she shares all of this daily. So if you guys are like, I can't remember what she said about this product or that one, go to her social. It's all there. Enjoy the episode. Welcome, Jenna. Hi. Hi. Okay. So we've been talking for a little bit already. I want to just start with the hair thing. We're going to get into like all of the beauty and your background and everything because you are like truly a beauty. expert, but I have major hair envy. So for those who can't see, I guess you can see the video now, but she has hair like down to your ass. Like it's amazing and it's natural. How? Well, first of all, hello. Thank you for having this podcast. I was just saying I don't do a lot of podcasts and I'm like so excited to be here because I love you. Um, major girl crush. Yeah, I don't know. I've had long hair my whole life. I think a lot of it is genetics, but a lot of it is neuterful. I took. Shout out new triple.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Shout out. Yeah, major. I also don't use a lot of heat on my hair. And I feel like that's really important. But in terms of the length thing, it's kind of always been long. Trim it every once in a while. Got these bang things. I'm loving the bang.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Yeah. They're so grown out now that it's not really like a bang anymore. But it was cute and French Girl for like a week and a half and they grew out. It still is kind of French Girl vibes. I'm going to get them re-trimmed again. Amazing. Because I love it. Now I feel like it's sort of like Little Mermaid, you know.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Yes. We love Little Mermaid though. Not a bad look. But I feel like it's sort of like Ariel. It gets like really pretty shape, though. Yeah, I style it. Do you just have naturally straight hair? And then you just have to do a little wand quickly.
Starting point is 00:05:09 I take like a little like round brush. I don't know. The woman who cuts my hair just told me how to do it. And that's what I do. I don't really do my hair. It's just kind of I don't really have time. Okay. Well, thank you for saying genetic.
Starting point is 00:05:20 Yeah. But I also lost a lot of hair, not a ton of hair, but I also lost a lot of hair after I had my son, which I was like, it's not going to happen to me. It totally happened to me. I mean, it happens. And I took Nutreful. And I was amazed. Like, truly.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Yes. And I took before and afters, like throughout the whole process. And it totally grew back. So that's awesome. Maybe even better than before. Yeah. So I started taking Nutrifal last summer. I was like noticing thinning around my hairline and just like thinning in general.
Starting point is 00:05:49 And it was a very stressful time. And I had like other things going on. But like everyone, the nurse practitioner who does like my injectables, she sells it. My plastic surgeon. He takes it for his hairline. My hair girl. They sell it. Like, everybody recommended it.
Starting point is 00:06:04 My husband was going to start taking it. Is he? Yeah. Yeah. It's important. It's amazing. Hair's important. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:10 And I could not believe, like, it took a few months. I feel like to start noticing it. But my issue is that it doesn't grow. I have extensions. Your hair's pretty long. Extensions. Like, I have a few pieces in the back. Literally never know.
Starting point is 00:06:21 It looks super long. Thank you. It's really good. Thank you. I'm like healthy, though. Yes. Yes. My hair got way healthier.
Starting point is 00:06:26 Yeah. But that's more important than having long hair. Yeah. Healthy hair. Yeah. You're like, I also think the dying. I also think like nutrition, like everything like pays into your hair health, you know? Yes. Well, Anne, you said like not using so much heat on it.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Yeah. That's what I need to stop doing. Yeah. Actually, two summers ago, I stopped. I did like buns every day. I wouldn't do like any heat or anything. Yes. I loved it and my hair actually got longer. I think for me it's like the styling. I do that with mascara sometimes. I'll do like a mascara detox. Interesting. Yeah. Like I'll take two weeks off of mascara and I'll like just let my lashes breathe for a minute. You just use like the lash theorems at night, like Grandi Lash, something like that. And I always see that they do better. So I heard before that you used Grande. Love Grande. You do. I love it. Love. Okay. Because you have amazing lashes too. How much of that is genetic? I don't know. I'm like, I need to know everything. Well, okay, I love granny lash,
Starting point is 00:07:22 but I actually forget to use a serum, but I do use their mascara. So it's awesome because it just has the serum inside of the mascara and if you forget to use a serum, you're wearing it all day, basically. So, like, conditions your lashes and it has all the peptides in it. Amazing. So I love that. But, again, like, my lashes were so much better than they are now, like, probably, like, 10 years ago. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:07:44 I, like, I did, like, weird. I never got extensions because I was like, I can't. There's, like, one more thing. It's, like, how many things can I do? Yeah. Like, hair, call it, like, nails. Jet. Like, there's just too many.
Starting point is 00:07:53 There's just too many fucking things. Yeah. So anyway, so I got, like, some kind of a lash treatment thing with, I don't know, it was not good and then my lashes were not good for a while. So I like did the detoxing, started using the serums and they got a lot better. But yeah, but sometimes I find that if I don't remove my mascara with the gronday lash, like it seldom. I do it sometimes. I like wake up the next morning my lashes not better. Really? But maybe don't do that. Yeah. I also use the grondy lash mascara the waterproof one when I was in labor with my son and it lasted for like three straight days. I swear to God.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I didn't even know that they had mascara. So this is like all mind blowing to me. The waterproof one is so good. Yeah. Okay. It like stayed on. like through the birth and like through the next day. Holy shit. Yeah, because my issue is like after my crazy skincare routine, which is many steps, but now I can like, I'm efficient. I can do it in like five minutes be done. But then I just don't. I forget. Like it's just another thing. There's so many things. I mean my God. Yeah. How many things. Yeah. But I did extensions to for six years. I was like fully addicted to them to where they would start coming off and I would like not recognize myself. What do you have now? Nothing. You look good. Because during COVID, like, like,
Starting point is 00:08:59 I remember in the first week of COVID, I was like, oh, shit, things are going to shut down for a couple weeks. Got to go get my lashes done. So I'm like in the lash place, getting a full set. And then obviously, like, everything, especially places like that, they're in your face. Like that did not reopen forever. So they came off and I had, I mean, six years of doing extensions on your lashes. Bald, rabbit, vibes. Like, it was straight up bald. It was not good. But then they grew and they got so much help. You know what I also do that I did today? Like, I don't want to work. extensions, I put on the long comb primer. Have you ever done that? No. It's like a white primer. It's really good. You should try it. And it makes your lashes kind of like look bigger and fuller. Interesting. Yeah, it's pretty good. I have it on now. I know a lot of people are traveling this summer. And I know you have all been there trying to fit everything you think you might need for a

So if you are still shaving or waxing, you guys, you are probably wasting precious time.
Starting point is 00:12:10 So I calculated it. I used to do sugaring, which was not only painful, but if you think about it, it's like a two-hour ordeal. Every four weeks or so, factoring in driving to and from the appointment and the appointment itself, not to mention hair growth in between. appointments, which kind of sucks, especially if you're traveling or something. So two hours every four weeks, that's 26 hours a year, not counting the maintenance in between. That's more than one day a year on hair removal. So that is not the vibe. Laser hair removal is amazing. It permanently reduces unwanted hair for good. It zaps hair follicles right at the root. So you see and feel results as soon as after your first treatment. It saves time and money compared to a
Starting point is 00:13:00 lifetime of shaving and waxing. And like I said, with waxing, you have to grow your hair back out between each session, which can get really annoying, especially like I said, if you're traveling, if you're going to be in a bikini or you have a date or something. So ditch the razor for laser. You never have to pack it for trips, deal with missed spots, and deal with. with the hassle of getting an appointment and growing out your hair. So if you're wondering, okay, this sounds great, but where do I go? I love ideal image. They have locations all around the country. Starting point is 00:14:25 Hey friends. My name's Olivia Perez and I'm an entrepreneur, journalist, and the host of the Friend of a Friend Podcast. Every Monday, I meet with some of today's youngest and brightest entrepreneurs to make space to tell their stories and shine a light on who I believe to be the next generation of luminaries. I'll interview up-and-comers and game changers from brand builders to personalities, activists, artists, and thought leaders from around the world. Each episode lets you be a fly on the
Starting point is 00:14:47 wall during one of the greatest pep talks, like a conversation between you and a friend or a friend of a friend. See you there. One of the reasons why I'm so excited to talk to you is because you're such a wealth of knowledge when it comes to all things beauty. For me, like with beauty, procedures, lasers, surgeries, whatever, I do all the things. But when it comes to like makeup skincare, I've used the same five makeup things for years. Like that's a... it. I have my mascara. I have my concealer. I just recently started using foundation, which I was like,
Starting point is 00:15:21 wow, foundation is so cool. Welcome to the world. Thank you. I have makeup. And that's it, like, lip gloss. It's so simple. So hearing about these products is like, whoa. Well, you look great. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. Thank you. I feel a little tired. Well, what do you want to know? I look. Crazy allergies right? I know.
Starting point is 00:15:39 My eyes have been like red and puffy. Watering the whole day. I know. Snezing. I was coughing and sneezing all day yesterday. Oh my God, me too. It's not funny. I know. Yeah. But tell everybody a little bit about how you came to be the expert that you are because you worked at Vogue for many years and then you decided to transition and work for yourself. But what was the road that led to Vogue? For sure. I was always obsessed with beauty. Even before beauty was a thing. I was always the girl obsessed with skincare. And I grew up in Miami. So I learned about sunscreen from a very early age. And maybe that's what started on my journey. I have to stop you there. Because we're around the same age. Yeah. We are the same age. Okay. So for me, like maybe because I grew up in New England where it was cold during the winters,
Starting point is 00:16:20 but we were in the tanning beds. Yeah. Like, we knew that, you know, sun was bad. But I think when you're young, teenager, you think that, like, that's never going to happen to you. You're never going to age. You're never going to get wrinkly and sun damage. It was just, like, I couldn't even conceptualize it. I mean, my school was outside.
Starting point is 00:16:36 So I had wore sunscreen every day from, like, middle school on. So what made you choose to wear sunscreen instead of, like, being tanning with your friends at the beach and My mother. Thank you. My mom tried to, but I was like, nope. My mom was really into beauty as well. She still is really into beauty. And I always used to play with all of her skin care and makeup from an early age. But it was always the girl who was doing everyone's makeup for school dance or before a dance competition or, you know, any of one of those things. And also in college, the night before graduation, all my girlfriends were like, okay, well, we don't, we're leaving school. We don't know how to do makeup. And so everyone brought their makeup bags in the store. house, we all sat down and I shared everyone literally how to do their makeup for real life. True story. So I was always obsessed with beauty. Even before beauty was a thing, I feel like beauty
Starting point is 00:17:22 is now such a hot topic, but I was always into it. I interned at every magazine under the sun growing up. Always wanted to work in magazines. I always thought that was so cool. I still think it is so cool. Started working at Vogue as an assistant and worked my way up to beauty editor, and I was there for seven years. And my entire job was to try products, review them, and basically write about them on Vogue.com. And my job touched everything from vogue.com digital, Vogue Print, Vogue Snapchat. It was Snapchat, Vogue Beauty Secrets, the YouTube series, and even interviewing celebrities on the red carpet.
Starting point is 00:17:57 I did a lot of posting stuff, which I absolutely loved, so much fun, getting to see people IRL. So, yeah. And during that time, I would always post whatever I was doing on social media, even before it was a thing. Like, I would do unboxings when unboxing wasn't a term. I would always show the events I was going to. I would always show the products I was using.
Starting point is 00:18:16 I would post pictures of, you know, a meeting that I had with some new founder and some new beauty brand. So I've been doing this in a way for a very long time. And in some ways, it was a very seamless transition for me to kind of be my own boss and kind of continue to do the same job. Because I personally see it as the influencer or the content creator now. Like the influencer is the editor of yesterday. And I feel like I am doing the same job just in a little bit of a different way. And I still love it. Yeah, that is interesting. And this is something that I've talked about before. You know, I'm not like solely in the beauty space. Obviously, it's not like what you do. But I do feel like influencers kind of took on this role where they are the editor's editor-in-chief of their own brand, you know, and you're doing everything. You're doing the creative direction. You're doing often the makeup. You're doing like all of these things. You have to wear so many hats. So it's so interesting that like I could see how that would be a seamless transition for you.
Starting point is 00:19:12 don't really consider myself a traditional influencer. I didn't, you know, I didn't create a TikTok and go viral overnight and then have five million followers. I did not do that and I still don't have five million followers. I came from a different route and I think in some ways it gives me a different perspective and it gives me a little bit of more of authority in the space. And I do consider myself an extort because I literally have tried every single product and I continue to try every single product. And that's what makes me tick. I love that. I love seeing things before they come out. I love getting to talk to people about why they created things. And I love seeing the data behind all of those products and seeing why people buy things, how they buy things. You know, why are they going to Sephora versus going online for
Starting point is 00:19:52 things? You know, all that kind of back-end stuff. I love that. I also think that it takes a very specific kind of person to do this job and to be your own boss. I think especially to be an influencer, it's not a traditional nine to five. And I, it's, it's a weird gig. I mean, like, Yeah. It's a weird gig. Because you don't, you don't have specific hours. You're kind of always doing the job. And I kind of really like that. But you have to kind of find your way to turn off. Right. Yeah. And I also think it's, it's very hard to sort of measure success. You know, how do you measure success? Is it by hitting goals that you set for yourself? Is it by, oh, until I get a million followers, I am not going to, you know, hit my goal. I'm not going to feel like I'm successful. For me, I don't have a million followers. followers. That would be nice, but I truly would prefer to grow my community, maybe at a smaller scale, I don't know, but I prefer the connection with my community and building a career that has longevity versus just going viral and overnight. Because once you go viral, you're like, hey, what's next? And also, by the way, as an influencer, I'm always like, what's next?
Starting point is 00:21:06 Yeah. What am I doing next? Yeah. You have to constantly be evolving. Constantly and constantly evolving, constantly changing, constantly figuring out what the next app is. what the next thing is, what's going to, like, move the needle. What's going to, you know, what are people going to be interested in? Which I love thinking about that. But it's a really hard, hard and weird job that I feel like people don't think about from the other end of it. You know, they're just scrolling Instagram and TikTok and being like, oh, I love that mascara. But that mascara, like, that mascara, like, has so much on the back end that I have, like, thought about and whatever.
Starting point is 00:21:32 It's the whole thing. Yeah. Yeah. Right. I often wonder, like, I think when you are working in this space, like, yeah, how do you quantify success? Is it followers? Is it how much money you make? is it how many brand deals you get? And for somebody who does kind of go viral and blow up
Starting point is 00:21:48 overnight, like I can't imagine the pressure, because I know like at my size, at your size, the pressure that you feel to constantly be creating because it's just like you're on a hamster wheel of content creation, like for better for worse, like there are amazing things about it and then there are not great things about it. But that's the job. And to have the added pressure suddenly of like millions of people and public PR and like everything behind you. How do you turn that into something? I think I actually always feel kind of grateful. You know, I've been doing this since 2016. I did not blow up overnight. It wasn't really even possible on Instagram back in the day. Like maybe for some people, but not like there's not the discoverability that there is today. And I do think that there are
Starting point is 00:22:35 benefits to like really fostering a community and having people who are super engaged, trust you. You know, I saw a post about this the other day. I think brands get more like ROI with a micro-influencer than they do with like a Kardashian because you see Kylie Jenner post a drink and you don't believe that she's actually drinking that. So nobody's going to buy it. You know, like maybe some people. But I think that there is something really like really powerful about having that community
Starting point is 00:23:02 that's been with you through so much and they trust you. And that's super engaged. And that trusts me. Like one of the ways I measure success is like did I make it impact in somebody's skin routine or in their life. Like, did I, you know, influence them to buy a product that made their skin better? Did I influence them to buy a new blush that made them feel more confident? Like, I measure success in that way. I, you know, I see people on the street all the time and they're like, oh my God, I bought your nighttime medic kit with Willa Hennerksson, which we can also talk about.
Starting point is 00:23:29 I did a collaboration with Willa Hennerksson this year and it was amazing and so cool. It's like the ultimate like nighttime skincare routine. And they're like, I'm obsessed to change my skin. You know, like, that to me is worth so much more than a million followers. It's like that one person telling me that their skin is great because I help them make it great. So let's talk about that. I want to hear about that. Okay, great. I'm obsessed with Ola. He's so cool. I literally will use anything that man creates. He is awesome. So I love his products and have been using them for years. I think I met him in an editor event, probably like 10 years ago.
Starting point is 00:24:03 and I am very passionate about nighttime skin care, even more than morning skincare. I think it's the time where you reset your skin. You give yourself a break from the day, at least for me, I don't have a lot of time in the morning to get my shit together because I have a child who's in my bathroom with me. By the way, when I'm like getting ready in the morning. It's actually kind of nice. It's like our time in the morning. Like my husband usually will get up with him like first thing and I'll like sleep
Starting point is 00:24:26 an extra 10 minutes and deal with the dogs or whatever. And then we kind of have like our time when I'm like brushing my teeth and doing like, you know, five minutes of skin care, literally very minimal. And he'll play with the products. It's like now like a thing. He's obsessed with flushing the toilet. Maybe that's like TMI. It's like he sits there and flushes the toilet while I do my skincare.
Starting point is 00:24:43 Anyway, so like nighttime skin care is is my time. And there's a brand new product in there that I had basically been trying for a year prior to its launch. And we decided to partner with them on this incredible super streamlined nighttime skincare nighttime skin curating. Cleanzer, toner. moisturizer. The end. That's it. Yeah, that's it. No actives? Yeah, I mean, there's actives within all, there's active within all of the products. Yeah, so break down each one. So the cleanser is the
Starting point is 00:25:13 ultimate nighttime skin curatin. It has a cleanser, the truth juice daily cleanser, which is a cleanser that I use all the time. My husband uses all the time. The dark spot toner, which I literally use every night. It has brightened my skin. I've had friends tell me that it helped their melasma post-baby. It's really an incredible product. And then the magic of the kit is the Dutopia forming night cream. It has 5% acid, has all these different actives to kind of really reset your skin for the next morning. And I always say that it's the reason why I wake up with a glow the next morning. Dutopia. Yeah. I like the sound of that. You don't have one. I'm selling you one. No, I don't have it. Oh, I'm sending you on.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Done. Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. That sounds so good. Yeah. I feel like you would love it. Yeah. Well, I had to like overhaul my skincare routine last summer because I got acne out of nowhere. Really? Yes. What was I related to? It was, I'll show you a picture after. Yeah, because it'll take me too long to find. It was crazy.
Starting point is 00:26:13 Like all, like cystic all over the side of my face, down my neck. Like, it seemed like maybe it was hormonal. Yeah. Or like something you ate or? I don't think it was something I ate. You're like, I have the cleanest diet of anyone here. However, somehow I managed to get zoonotic parasites and food poisoning. Yeah, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Yes. So crazy. I got that. No. No. I just got a text from Cedars saying like we have new test results from Mayo Clinic. I'm like, oh, God. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Maybe wait. I think from something I ate because I like got a really bad stomach thing overnight and then it kind of went systemic. That's terrifying. Yeah. But what was I saying? Oh yeah. I got acne and like nothing was working. I ended up going on spyrinalactone because I was like, give me anything.
Starting point is 00:26:56 Yeah. Like I had never had skin issues and I now can sympathize so much with people. that struggle with that because especially when you feel like you're doing everything right, eating quote unquote clean, whatever. Like, yeah, and you're still breaking out. Like it really fucks with your self-esteem. Yeah. And it's really frustrating.
Starting point is 00:27:16 So I did Jan Marini. I did spirnal actone. Jan Marini like changed my skin. Really? However, I love you, Jan Marini, if you're listening. It's a million steps. So I feel like I'm past the point of acne. I'm ready to like get yourself some clean and clear persia gel.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Let's talk about some drug. store finds because I've heard you talk about this. Yeah, I'm all here for this. Persegell, I feel like I used that in high school. Yeah, and it still slaps, as the kids say. It still slaps. I was like, she's so cool. I'm trendy. She's so jenzy. Like, how old is she? Kids that keep me young. No, I have been using cleaning clear purse gel since I was probably 14 and I just never gave it up because it's so good. For like spot treating? Yeah, spot treating. Okay. I always say that I never get on a plane without it because you always get a Zit when you're traveling, like no matter what. Yeah, hi. And it will heal it overnight. I also really like a pimple patch, but this is just like, if you're traveling somewhere random, you can like pop into a CVS and pick one up and it's like $6.99 or something. I'm also obsessed with Nivia, but that's no secret. Everyone knows that I love Nivia. It's a big household favorite in my house. I love the household favorite. I also love their lip balm. It's so good. They have like an exfoliating one. I think it happened in my bag right now.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Exfolating lip balm. Yeah, it's so good. It has a little beads in it. Let's do the what's in my bag. Okay, for sure. And then also, I love Palmer's, like cocoa butter. Oh, yeah. Throwback. Oh, my God. I, like, know exactly how all of those things smell.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Oh, my God. It's so good. I'm obsessed with the scent. I have, like, the jar. You know, like the, it's a little just, like, straight. I don't know what it is. Like, it's a bomb. Yep.
Starting point is 00:28:51 Lather myself in it. And aquifer is another, like, great drugstore favorite. Have you always moisturized your body? Yeah, but to be honest, if I'm not using the nivio, that dries super quick and I don't have like time to like, you know, put on like my gorgeous OC Malibu body oil. I'm like not doing it during the day. I'll do it at night. I love that. I love that. It's one of my favorite brands right now. Yes. I love them. They have a really good scrub as well. So good. The scent. Do you see in the moon? Oh my God. I love her stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:22 See in the moon. I think I've heard of that though. I like to do the sock thing where I moisturize the feet and then put socks on at night. It's like very ambitious. Yeah. You know what? ambitious. I keep, I have a massive bedside table. It's just like so not like aesthetically pleasing, but I have a massive bedside table and the entire drawer on top is like organized. There's like supplements because I always forget to take them when I'm like in the kitchen and I'm like, oh God, I should have taken my vitamins today. Well, you have no excuse because they're right next to you. I started doing that too. Oh, it's the best. I literally just put them in my bedside table because I'm like, I do the same thing. I wake up. I go and I'm not getting out. Yeah, I'm not getting out of bed. Like sorry.
Starting point is 00:30:00 which is not going to take that multivitamin today. And I keep like the lip bombs and like all the stuff. So I can always just like reach for it. Anyway, the massive bedside table has anything I could possibly ever need. Yeah. We're very similar because I have started keeping my supplements in my bedside. Love.
Starting point is 00:30:17 And also keeping my body oils. Like I do well not. What do I do at night now? Some nights I do this Omni. Have you heard of it? No. Someone I met someone. at a hair appointment. And she said this retinal spray. Oh, yeah. Omni. I love that. I ordered it. It was on
Starting point is 00:30:38 back order. And they were like, sorry, we don't know when we're going to have it. And I was like, no. And then they magically sent me two bottles. So I do that. And then I do Is Clinical Body Complex. I love Is Clinical. So good. The Body Complex and the Youth Body Serum. I love that. So I like rotate those. But I never, that's another thing that I never did my whole life up until a few years ago. And I was like, I got to do something. I'm like locked in head to toe head to boobs yeah I need to do something like boobs to toes tits to toes yeah I had everything like head to to you know what I do sometimes well I mean I feel like body body skincare has gotten has like been revolutionized in last couple of years but I used to always use whatever I would always like kind of use it like everywhere else I take it down down the tits yeah
Starting point is 00:31:24 down the tits yeah like everywhere shoulders like and especially like when I was pregnant I would like put everything I put on my face on my belly. Oh, smart. I would do this, like, weird wrapping thing. Have you ever heard of this? No. Like what all the, like, kooky L.A. Girlies do. Like, you put on, like, a Vaseline or, like, I don't know, probably, Oprah probably told me to do that. And then you, like, wrap your stomach in saran wrap. Interesting. For what? For, like, stretch marks. Yeah, like, you just get really, like, itchy and dry when you're pregnant. It's a weird time. I would, like, run myself in saran wrap. Did it work? I guess. I don't know. I don't really have any stretch marks, but I think a lot of that is genetic too. Yeah. But yeah,
Starting point is 00:32:03 you want to feel like hydrated and supported and my stress. Yeah. I feel like a dry, shriveled up reason since I got here. I'm like what's happening? Yeah, like my my skin is dry and dehydrated. I think it's like allergies probably. Do you do acupuncture? Of course you do. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I feel like that acupuncture is like my like cure all for literally everything. So I am two nights ago and I'm just like, wow. I know for a lot of people with summer comes a packed social calendar, whether you are traveling or you just have a lot of plans, maybe you have a lot of dinners. And I know that the last thing a lot of us want to do on those hot summer nights when we are at home is cook. But I know for myself, if I am eating out a lot or ordering in a lot,

Starting point is 00:34:39 with heat usually comes sweat. Now, most traditional deodorants simply mask the sweat after it happens, but there is a revolutionary breakthrough with loamy deodorant. So this is actually amazing. There's a huge misconception that body odor is the result of sweat in whatever area that sweat is. But actually, this OBGYN, Dr. Shannon Klingman, saw time and time again that women were coming with complaints about odor below the belt, and they would leave with a false diagnosis along with often unnecessary antibiotic prescriptions. So she was determined to find a better solution and she was able to prove through clinical testing that the real culprit of most body odor is actually the bacteria on the skin digesting bodily fluids. So the same reaction
Starting point is 00:35:36 in our underarms happens everywhere on the body. So Loomi blocks bacteria from digesting fluids on your skin and prevents body odor from happening in the first place anywhere. on your body. So Loomi is not just for your underarms. You can put it on your underbobs, your thighs, your butt, your vulvas, your feet, wherever you have sweat and body odor. It's clinically proven to block odor all day and control odor for up to 72 hours. And it's formulated with mandelic acid to stop odor before it starts. So it's more like a pre-oderant. It's also aluminum-free, baking soda-free and paraben-free and pH-balanced for safe use below the belt. You can choose from a variety of fresh, bright scents like clean tangerine, lavender sage.
Starting point is 00:36:28 I think I said last week that I love the peony rose. I've since tried the toasted coconut, which I also love. It's such like a fresh summary scent. And as a special offer for my listeners, new customers can get $5 off a loamy starter pack with the code blonde at loomidioder. com. So the starter pack is perfect for new customers. It comes with a solid stick deodorant, cream tube deodorant, two free products of your choice like mini body wash and deodorant wipes and free shipping. Okay, so let's do what's in our bags. Okay, cool. You know what I do? You know what I do with my bags is like, I'll always keep, I'll never empty the bags out, like partially because I'm fucking lazy and like also partially because I always want to have like, oh, there's that lipstick, you know. Mm-hmm. Okay. I have some Ellis Flats in the bag. Oh, I love those. I love Ellis. Okay.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Because I was just like, didn't have time for lunch. And I was like, I can't be hangary on the podcast. You keep the blood sugar. Yeah. Let's see. What do we have? Oh, two pairs of sunglasses. Amazing.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Why not? Options. Loeve and evening. I have, oh, the Charlotte Tilbury, flawless, finished airbrush powder. Have you tried this? No. Oh, my God. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:40:34 It's like a filter in a little thing. Okay. Okay. I'm writing all of these down. And I like to put it. I mean, I kind of have a lot on already. But I like to put it right here. You're going to see the difference from one side to the next.
Starting point is 00:40:42 ready? So see how it just like smooths that. Yeah. And it's like it makes you just look infinitely better in photos and in video like on camera. Like if you have to like do something on camera like this apparently. Oh my God. Right? What shade. I mean, I know that we're- There's like fair, medium and dark and I think I'm the medium. Okay. I also have what the fuck is in here. Oh, bio-effect eye masks. I mean I don't plan on putting these on now. I have no idea why they're in my bag, probably from like a travel trip, sun-kissed nude sticks. This is the color that Mary Phillips created, who I'm obsessed with. I love her.
Starting point is 00:41:18 And then I'll use this like lips, cheeks, eyes, like literally everywhere. Let's see. Oh, that nibia thing. Do I have that in here? Like the little jar. Yeah, it's not in here. I have two lip glosses, Hermes. Have you tried the Armez beauty?
Starting point is 00:41:31 No. Oh, my God. I smell this. It's amazing. And then also the cover girl on which is so good. Did I see you post the tip that, like the BB cream or something? Oh, my. Oh my God, it's amazing. It's called Tent on Air. A plon, plant, plant on. I can't think. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:41:46 Front. Something friends. Yeah, it's amazing. I screenshot it. You did. Yeah, my heart from the gym. Oh, my God, it's so good. Oh, my gosh. I feel like that's so under. Underappreciated. I feel like the Arma's beauty line is not talked about enough. Yeah. Do you think it's just bad PR? No, I just think it's expensive. Oh. I just think it's really expensive. Is it more expensive than like a Chanel? It's probably around the same price, but I think people don't walk into Hermes and they're like, oh, you guys have bronzer here. Yeah, you're not really going to Armes for a makeup. So, but yeah, they have a new bronzer and it's so beautiful. And the lip oils are, and they're also such a good gift. Yes. So like $50. You would never buy that for yourself. Right. They're magic. Okay. Yeah. I'm going to go. I go to Palm Beach this weekend. It's a good air mess because it's usually like pretty quiet. So I'm going to go. Sounds amazing. stock up on beat. Sounds amazing.
Starting point is 00:42:38 I, okay, so you showed me what's in your bag. What are your rider dye makeup products? Would those be them? I mean, no, that's just like scratching the surface. Where should we begin? Okay, ride or die, like classics. Okay, let's start. Okay, anything Charlotte Tilbury makes, I will put on my face.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Literally anything. She's my very godmother. I love her. I guess let's start with, like, how I do my makeup. Yes. Because I think that's like I won't forget anything. I shadow. I use a lot of Charlotte Tilbury.
Starting point is 00:43:04 I use a lot of the Tom Ford eyeshadows. I think their makeup is amazing and so luxurious. I really like this purple liner from Charlotte Tilbury. Like, it sounds weird to wear like a day-to-day purple liner, but it makes your eyes look super white. I also am obsessed with lining my waterline with a light tan pencil. I have the one from Victoria Beckham Beauty. Also, VB is doing amazing things for us in the makeup world.
Starting point is 00:43:30 I'm writing that down too. Yeah. I actually had that one saved. This is my problem. My screenshot things, and then I take 5,000 more. pictures and I don't buy them. It's so good and it makes your eyes look super wide awake. Another thing that makes your eyes look really wide awake is a lumify drop. I knew you're going to say that. Of course. They're the best. You use them. Yes. Yeah. I didn't bring them here. So I just have clear eyes. You don't need them. I don't need them last like an hour. Well, I need them.
Starting point is 00:43:50 Well, I need them. My eyes were this red before this podcast. Louify is eight hours. What about upneek? Have you tried that? No. You don't need it. Yeah. Eventually I'll need it. We all need it at some point. Eventually we all need something. I also. You do the Grande mascara? I love the grande de mascara. I love the long comb mascaras. I've been using those forever. I feel like me and Kim Kay are the only ones who ever talk about using it long comb mascara. The grandiose is my favorite. And the Monsour Big, which is such a great name. I know. I know. You know what I tried recently that I really, really, really, really am into. Refi, refi. You know that? I've been hearing a lot about that lately. Oh, it's so good. It's like such a TikTok girly makeup brand, which, you know, we are. Just kidding. Us Jen's ears. Yeah, we're so young. I'm here for like the elder millennial TikTok.
Starting point is 00:44:41 I think it's great. I mean, we are that. Just kidding. We're not. We're 23. They have a brow gel that is like, that's what I've been hearing about. It's really good.
Starting point is 00:44:50 The other brow gel I really like is makeup by Mario. He has an amazing brow gel. He's doing such good things. I love his makeup. I feel like that's always sold out. Always sold out. He's doing great. Which makes me want it.
Starting point is 00:44:59 Love you. Yeah, we want it. We need it. Okay. I also love the Clay to Poe. makeup and I love their SPF. Have you ever tried their SPF? It's like SPF 50 and it feels like she's taking notes people. It feels like a moisturizer. It's beautiful, beautiful. Yeah. I use. The other SPF that you posted, sorry to interrupt you with the AirMaz. Lahenrichson. Okay. They have a new one.
Starting point is 00:45:22 SPF 30. It is a mineral and it kind of like gives your skin. It's kind of like a primer too, which I really like. The Clay Depot is a little more glossy. But this one, it's also like a lot cheaper and it's like throwing your bag like have it anytime and like slap it on my hands when I'm like walking around I always keep that in my bag not in this bag obviously oh for concealer I love the dior concealer have you said no it's really good it's like new mom approved as they say just to laura mercierge have you tried her new foundation yeah is that foundation you're telling you that I used yes I met Laura recently which she's amazing she's incredible okay because they say don't meet your idols no no she's amazing and also like I I told her on
Starting point is 00:46:03 like I've like met like a lot of celebrities not to be like mm-hmm but like I've pretty much like met and interviewed a lot of people at this point in my life like right with my job and everything because most celebrities now have beauty brands so they always have events and you meet these people and like usually they're awesome but I was so star-struck when I met Laura Marseille I was like I have literally wanted to meet you for my entire life like just I was like 13 at the makeup counter you know that's amazing lived up to the hype how old is she she she's been doing this forever right yeah she's been doing it for a long time But like she never like comes to New York.
Starting point is 00:46:35 She never takes like meetings with anyone. Yeah, I don't even know what she looks like. Exactly. You know like a Bobby Brown like a Charlotte Tilbury. But she's never like never front facing. Never. How did you meet her? I went I had a lunch with her and like a few other influencers.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Oh wow. It was incredible. Amazing. She's like they're like we've never done this. Like ever. Yeah. I didn't get an invite. So thanks.
Starting point is 00:46:54 No. And there was like it was like three people. It was amazing. That's incredible. But I love that new foundation. Yeah. The foundation is amazing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:01 How do you apply? Foundation? Yeah. Well, I have some tricks. I love a beauty blender, but I have some tricks. My, like, thing that everyone kind of, like, knows me for, I guess, is I put, I mix my foundation with a really good moisturizer to kind of give it, like, a sheerness to it. Or I'll mix it with a face oil or something.
Starting point is 00:47:20 Just kind of give it, like, a little bit of glow. And then sometimes I'll, like, mix in, like, a highlighter. Have you tried the co-sheiliter? No. Incredible. Write it down. There's, like, eight shades. I have, like, five of them.
Starting point is 00:47:30 I'm wearing it right now. Is it, like, a cream? Yeah. Yeah, it's so good. It comes in like a pump. Okay. And it feels like fake makeup because it's like plastic and cute and Gen Z, you know? Yeah, I love that. It's like, oh, I'll just take six of them. Thank you. Throw it in the cart. Amazing. So yeah, so I mix my foundational. I like that lower mercy one because I just put it on with my fingers. That's like that. Yeah. Yeah. It's a really nice. Yeah. But day to day, I don't really wear. I don't wear foundation every day. I'll do a CC cream. I'll do the airmen. Yeah. I mean, that one's amazing. Yeah. I love the Armazone. But I also love who Mercury has a great one. Okay. Love that. Yeah, and the Armez. Supergoop. I use pretty much every day. I love Supergoop. I love underneath. Yeah. I like the mat one. Whatever. What beauty tools do you like? I've heard you talk about like. New face. New face. And what is the wand? High frequency or. Yeah, the high frequency one. I use that all the time. I used to use that for breakout. For like a breakout or two. Yeah. But I love the new face. I just like instant gratification. I love things that are just going to give me like instant. instantly better looking skin, more lifted skin, more sculpted skin. I use my guasha pretty much
Starting point is 00:48:38 every day. And you swear by that? Yeah, I think it's made a really big difference. I also go to face gym. Have you ever been there? No. Okay. Your face is very lifted. Is it? Yeah. Thank you. It's so nice to me to say. I also did this like double chin treatment after I had my son last year. It's called a voc. Yeah. It's like a heat laser treatment. And it really worked. I had the before and afters Oh, so I go to face gym and I basically just go for 45 minutes and this woman just like works out all of the stress and tension in my jaw. And I really feel like that's made a big difference. And I feel like all of the like grinding and like the jaw stuff like brings your face down. You know. That's what I do. I'm the worst. I don't grind. I clench. Have you ever gotten Botox in your jaw? Yes. And does it help? Slightly. I am Botox resistant now. Right. So it's a new life development for me that I don't love. We have tried. everything like Botox, dysport, I don't respond to anything anymore. Daxify, have you done that?
Starting point is 00:49:37 Daxify we put in my jaw. Last time I went to my girl like a month ago. She was like, let's try Daxify and I was like, let's try it in one place before I pay to do like my whole face and let's see if it works. I think it worked a little bit. Like it definitely reduced the clenching a little bit. But my girlfriend who's a nurse practitioner and does aesthetics and injectables, she said juvot.
Starting point is 00:49:59 She was like, that's the one that people. people who are resistant because it has a different protein around it or something. Interesting. Yeah. Honestly, we live in the best time. We do. Thank God. Maybe I go to face gym. I do. I go to this place called Kosha, spa in L.A. Oh, never been. Incredible. They do the best face massage is, like the most calming environment. And they're just like these incredible women. And it definitely makes a difference. Like I just want to sit there. I just want to sit there. Like it makes sense. Exactly. It makes a huge difference. I just want to sit there and have someone just like, beat my face up. Like the nicest, the nicest way. I also do
Starting point is 00:50:38 lymphatic massages. I go to the talks a lot. And I feel like that has made a big difference. And just like my skincare, like got help. Like literally like everything. I just like feel better. More energy, like all the stuff. And I don't like do it to like look better in a bikini. I truly just do it because it makes me feel so much better, you know, lighter and just better. Yes. What are some other lifestyle things that you do? Oh, God. I have so many. Where should you begin? I know, I'm like, we could do three parts on this, probably. Honestly, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:04 I do my little LED, like red light mass, which I like. I'll do that at night sometimes. I do, I recently have purchased a juicer, and now I'm, I juice. And I like to have a juice every morning when I wake up, and my son has two with me, which is really cute. We like make it in the morning. I don't make it every morning, but I like to have a picture of like some kind of green juice in my fridge. That's like a wellness thing. I love the saccaro drops, like the chlorophyll and the rosewater drop.
Starting point is 00:51:31 I put that in everything. I have matcha now, which is rare for me. Not rare. I used to do it like many years ago, but I love coffee. Like my dream in life is to have like a espresso, like flavor. Genere, right. Is that you're going to say like a coffee farm or something? No, I don't need that.
Starting point is 00:51:49 I was like, I don't know if I picked it up. I just need, I just need nispros. Just like, I don't, whatever. I have every machine from Nisproso. And I would love it. X. Nispros. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:59 How great would that be? Yes. And like everybody knows my flavors. Copa truffle, vanilla. I love the iced one. I mean, whatever. It's going to happen. I love like the fall flavors. If anybody from his breath, I was listening, you've got to make this happen. I'm sure somebody knows somebody. I don't know. I don't think they give a shit about me, but it's fine. I think they do. I don't think so. I just what we were talking about in the beginning. I love coffee. I just love coffee. I love to be caffeinated. I'm a better version of myself when I'm highly caffeinated. Yeah. Yeah. So now I do, I start the day with match instead of coffee and I just feel like it's better for me, you know. I'm an adult now, you know, it's, I'm an adult. I have to just take care of myself and not have like five espresso shots over ice, which I used to do like every morning. And it's a more steady kind of alertness. Yes. You're not like this because the the althianine and it kind of like keeps you from crashing. Totally. Yeah. Yeah. Put in the blender too. Like I did that this morning. I'll put it in my little like
Starting point is 00:52:56 nutribility thing. Uh-huh. I put it with like ice match and like little collage. And like little collage. or whatever and then you pour it over. I do a shot of coffee with the ice and then I pour it over that match. Macha and they call it. Yeah, they call it like a dirty match. Isn't that what they call it? My mom's like, I had it this morning. She's like, that's disgusting. I'm like, why don't you just have your espresso? I feel like I've seen some people do that. It's like my thing. I don't know. Yeah, I saw something else similar. I brought my magic bullet with me. So maybe I'll try. Sorry, sorry. You're saying at a hotel with a magic ball? Yeah. I like so much respect. Blender. I have so much respect for it. Like, not. Whenever I say magic bullet, people are like, was like a vibrator? Yeah, they think something else.
Starting point is 00:53:35 No. No, I bring my, I bring my blender. Yeah. So maybe I'll, maybe I'll try that. And do you bring things to make the things? I bring macadamia milk. Love. And sometimes, it depends where I'm going. Sometimes I'll bring maple syrup. Oh, my God. But they don't have whole foods where you're saying in downtown Manhattan? I was thinking, like, when I was packing for this trip, I was like, no. I literally pack when I'm going to like, man, Manhattan or anywhere like Miami. I pack as though I'm going to a remote island where there's for six weeks with no internet or Amazon. Me too. I do the same thing. Yeah. Clothes, clothes, beauty things. Underware. Always overpack the underwear. Always. Blenders, macadamia milk, macha, bars. Me too. Nuts. Like as though I can't go to a store. Oh my God. Literally me too.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Like if I'm going to like Miami, well actually Miami my parents are so I order everything beforehand. Or if I'm going to like Paris, I always bring like all the snacks. Yeah. All the snacks. Cale chips, like dry mango, all this stuff. The other thing that I have started doing like this year is I make my own like almond milk, like nut milk. It's so wacky. I can't like I'm saying that.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Do you have a cheesecloth? No, fuck. No, I have. I don't know that far. I just wanted to see where on the spectrum were. No, no, no. She's not that crazy. But I have that machine.
Starting point is 00:54:49 I bought on Amazon. It was like 50 bucks. The cow thing? Yeah, nutter. One of those. I don't know. It was like $50. And I put everything in there and I just blends it.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Water, filtered water, you know, all the stuff. And it just, it just does it. I just start to get a little freaked out by all the stuff in almond milk, you know, and like all the plant milks, you know. Yeah. All the oils and it's like very inflammatory. Preservatives and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I always think about doing my own milk. I go through phases, but I feel like it's such a process with the blender and the cheesecloth and squeezing and the thing. I don't do it. I just blend it. I double blend it. And I need to get one of those machines. Because I feel like those make it, they separate the pulp for you, right? Yeah. It just like blends it all together. Super easy. Amazing. Let's talk really quickly, trends that you know.
Starting point is 00:55:35 I don't know. Tell me. I don't know. I was going to say trends that you like and trends that you think are kind of BS. Like beauty things. Anything. Yeah. Beauty.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Because, I mean, you mentioned before. Like there's so much going around with TikTok. And I mean, there's like a new product every day that's like so hyped or something, you know, slugging. There's so much noise. So much. different things. Yeah. I feel like people generally get confused by what they should actually put on your skin and what is actually good and what is actually not good. Yeah. I think dermaplanning was the worst thing I ever did for my face. Really? Really. Interesting. Really. Like had acne like I never had in my life. Really? Yeah. And I went to like
Starting point is 00:56:15 protective and you got rid of it. Yeah. And you basically just like shave off that layer and all the bacteria just like walks right in. It was not good for me. Any good one? Anything that you've seen. Yeah. I'm very happy. that taking care of your skin is a trend right now. I'm very happy with that. I think there's going to be a lot of focus on the body in the next year or so. I think people are being smarter about what they put on their body. I think people are using more like skincare face ingredients on their body, which I think is really cool. I think we're going to see this like tool trend continue to climb. I think people are doing stuff at home. I think post-COVID everyone has become a skincare expert. Everyone's a fucking facialist. Which is cool. I'm here for it. I love it. Like, yeah. I think it's amazing. I think people, I think
Starting point is 00:56:56 it's amazing that people are interested in their skin and, you know, people know what they're buried, micro, whatever barrier is and micro biome, you know, like all these like buzzwords and they're like, does this have hylorana? You know, like, I think, I think it's great that people are educated, but I also think there's so many products out there. So many. Yeah. I guess we'll close with like, how do you, how do you navigate that being in your position? Because, I mean, I've heard you talk about, like you had a room, right? Like your office was like a giant, like beauty closet. Do you literally try everything? Yeah. Like where do you draw the line? Yeah, I'm a human guinea pig. I like to try everything. Not just like beauty products. I like,
Starting point is 00:57:38 well, I ate my placenta. Like I will literally try anything once. And for me it has to work. I won't use something if it has like nasty preservatives or chemicals or whatever. But I truly will try anything. And it has to work for me. I think there's like two, I think, I think if someone's like, do you like this product? I think there's a first reaction to liking it. It's like, yes, it feels nice. Yes, it looks good. I like the way it smells. And then there's also like the, you know, the after effect of like, wow, it really worked for me. It helped with my sunspots. It helped with my brightening. It helped with my dark circles or whatever. Like for me, it has to work. And I do generally try a lot of those things. If it, if I try it and immediately I'm like red or whatever,
Starting point is 00:58:19 it's immediate now. Immediately now. Something I tried recently that I actually was super into, I don't like retinal. I have never used it. I used it when I was like, I don't know, 15 or something. This is not for me. Retinal. It's very hot right now. I'm not sure if you've heard of that. And there was this brand called Medicaid. Medic, and it's spelled with an eight on it. And they have three different strengths of retinal. And it's supposed to be 11 times more effective than retinal. Wow. But it doesn't have, it doesn't give you any of the redness. So it's really gentle. And I really like that. I use that at night. Yeah. And then I'll put like a lamare or something, something really hydrating on top of it. Hot tip.
Starting point is 00:58:55 Yeah. Hot tip. Yeah. It's good. I don't like retinal. Yeah. Trinanone and all the things. No, no.
Starting point is 00:59:00 Not for us. It does not. No, no. No, no. Not for us. You really are like flawless in real life. Thanks.
