I am really excited about today's episode. I got to kind of nerd out with my guest who is
absolutely brilliant about all things skincare aging, anti-aging, skincare ingredients, the science
behind all of it. And I learned so much and just also had such a great time talking to a fellow
skincare obsessed girlie. She is also a PhD. So I'm talking to Dr. Carolina Oliveira.
She is the co-founder and CEO of One Skin, which I'm sure you guys are all familiar with. And if you're not, you will be very enticed to use it after this episode. So a little background on my guest. co-founding One Skin in 2016. So as chief executive officer, she and her team spearhead research
and development, creating molecules that target cellular aging, including their
proprietary OS01 peptide. So in this episode, we get into what really happens at a bodily level
when we age. We define what even is aging. I think a lot of us know the term, but we don't know what it
really means. We talk about what happens in the skin with aging throughout various times in our
lives. And we talk about what skincare can do to either prevent or to accelerate that. I was really
fascinated by the fact that in her lab, they can grow skin so they can test certain ingredients on that
skin. They also get skin from donors. So she did say that they can test their eye cream on skin
taken from blephroplasties. I think I even said to her, maybe you got mine because I got a
blephoroplasty, as you guys know. So it's really fascinating to hear the behind the scenes of what goes
into formulating a product and how exactly it works. So I know you guys are going to. And,

Welcome. Hi. Thank you so much for having me, Ariel. Can't wait to talk to you. Also, I just have
to say from the top, you have incredible skin. Oh, thank you. We're, of course, going to be talking
all things skin today. And I really want to get into like the science.
of it all. I always say my audience really appreciates that so we can get as technical,
nitty-gritty as you want to get in the episode. But to start, why don't you just tell
everybody a little bit about your background and how you came to do what you do now?
Yeah. So I grew up in a small town in Brazil, in the countryside. I left home when I was
15 to pursue a better education. And I was always fascinated about science. And I want to understand
how things work from a biological standpoint. So what's happening inside a cell and how our DNA is
regulated because to me it's very fascinating when you understand how things work because when
they stop working, you can come up with solutions to fix them. So I went on and I pursued my
undergrad in biochemistry and then my PhD in stem cell biology and tissue engineering. That was an
that was very interesting to me because I could see a lot of potential translation. So I never want
just to study science for the sake of study science. I want to use that science to help people,
you know, live better, healthier. So during my PhD, I was studying, as I said, stem cell biology,
but more focused on treating some degenerative diseases. I was working on embryonic stem cells
and creating retina cells to potentially be transplanted in people that are developing macular degeneration.
They're losing their sight.
So when I was finishing my PhD, I really want to bring that science out of academia and create
something.
So I started a first company back in Brazil.
And initially what we were doing, we were creating human tissues in the lab to replace animal testing.
So we were creating like this retina tissues or like,
mini hearts or mini schemes.
And eventually that first endeavor didn't work out because of the whole ecosystem in Brazil,
but it got us the opportunity to come to the U.S.
So I moved to the U.S. in 2016 to basically start over,
but joined this biotech accelerator that would help scientists like me and my co-founders
to start their companies and to build this sustainable business.
here that I really dove deeply in like skin aging and aging as a whole and I got to understand
how much the science of aging has evolved in the past like 10, 15 years and how much the
products that were all there that claim to be anti-aging were not really utilizing this novel
approach. So that's when we decided, you know, to create something new that would be better for
targeting the aging of the skin. Okay, there are so many questions that I have, but maybe to start,
we can start with defining, like, what exactly is aging in the body and in the skin? Yeah, so if we want to
really simplify aging is the accumulation of damage over time. So there is the wear and tear of our own
or cells as our cells divide. Eventually, they accumulate mutations. So they don't function as well anymore.
But if you want to, I would say, define aging scientifically.
There are 12 hallmarks of aging that have been described in the past few years,
and this includes like the depletion of stem cells or the instability of our epigenetics
or mitochondrial dysfunction.
So there are many, I would say, processes that are happening inside our cells that are contributing
to aging.
And there is one that is considered like a central hallmark of aging.
That's the accumulation of these old cells, also called senescent cells.
And what is interesting about the senescent cells is, as I said, like all of these other
hallmarks eventually, they will lead to the formation of these old cells.
And when these old cells, or also called zombie cells, build up in our tissues, they basically
secrete inflammatory signals.
and they function like a rotten apple in a bunch.
So they induce the healthy cells around to age faster.
So what's interesting about the cell is that they accumulate throughout our bodies.
So they accumulate in our joints and their accumulations associated with like osteoarthritis.
They're accumulating in our hearts and its accumulations associated with heart diseases.
So what we saw is that in the literature in the science is that if we can eliminate,
if you can reduce the load of those cells,
we can basically rejuvenate the tissue
or bring the tissue to that younger state
when it becomes functional again.
So that's why we were so interested
about targeting cellular synessence in the skin
because we believe that this would be a novel approach
to actually be more effective
in reversing the age of the skin.
So in the skin, more specifically,
these cells accumulate because obviously
our skin is, you know, renewing every month.
And obviously that cell division eventually leads to damage and that leads to senescent cells.
But mostly also because we're exposed to so many environmental stressors, UV is the most important one.
And as UV impacts our cells, we see that there is an accumulation of those cells.
And with that, there is this secretion of inflammation.
And also when we talk about aging as a whole, there is also this word called inflammation,
because the more inflammation you have in your body, the faster you're going to age.
So in the end, the whole concept of like reversing age is also very associated of like driving down inflammation.
And this is true for your skin, but also for your body.
I've heard people talk about peaks of aging.
Are there certain ages where things really accelerate?
You hear people talk about like 39 into 40 or like mid 40s.
I've heard kind of different markers.
Yeah.
In their skin, more specifically, we studied like when there is what we call like an epigenetic shift,
when your cells stop functioning as well as they used to.
So it happens around 30s, which is kind of.
36 for me was like a nose dive.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So around 30 is when we see like a big shift.
And there are studies, as you said, showing that around 44 and then also another one, a big shift around 60.
I think we clearly see, you know, after 30 things really start to decline.
I think the most important thing here is that before 60, and even if you are at 6, like, there is always time to repair and reverse.
So it's never too late to start.
But obviously, you know, the earlier that you start like taking care, preventing the better.
I'm just curious, what is your opinion on supplements that help with like internal senescent cells?
Because we hear about the senescent cells in our bodies. And I know that there are supplements on the market now that, you know, you can take to kind of prune those dead zombie cells away.
Yeah, I think it's a super interesting approach. And it's actually complementary to, you know, treating your skin from the outside. Obviously, you want to treat your body from the inside. And there are many clinical studies showing that.
that some of those natural extracts, they can actually help, like, depleting senescent cells.
So I think it's very interesting.
And I think now we are being able to measure better the effect of how, by taking those supplements,
how we can improve our health in so many ways.
So definitely I think it's an interesting way to combat aging with supplements, you know, from the inside out.
So I know that you guys had five years of research.
over 900 peptides before you landed on the one hero peptide that we're going to talk a lot about
today. But you also looked at what was out there on the market and you alluded to this in the
beginning. And you saw that nothing was actually really treating aging. So can we just talk about some
of the myths maybe that are out there and debunk some of those before we then talk about this solution?
Yeah. I think when it comes to anti-aging, what we saw is that most products out there, they were
focus on targeting the symptoms of aging. So you see a lot of like retinides and acids. And it's all
about peeling of the upper layers of your skin. So you can grow like a fresher, newer skin,
not necessarily a younger skin, but it looks like fresher and newer. So it gives you that
anti-aging look. But none of the products were developed like to address those underlying
cause of aging. So basically the idea of treating the,
symptoms, it works like temporarily, but it's not like really addressing the problem. So I think
one of the interesting data that we saw as well is that when we were studying these peptides
and we were using some molecules to compare and as like our positive control or gold standard,
we use retinides or retinic acid. And what we saw is that the genes associated with aging,
temporarily they go up and they and also inflammation goes up which is like the opposite that
we would expect and then that really you know made me reflect because I used to use retinids a lot
because first I had acne and then it was supposed to be anti-aging so I was constantly like peeling
out and then my skin was dry and I was like I'm just getting young it's all good when I saw that
data and I thought like, okay, that may not be the best way to actually address aging,
but also later on we realize that this can be basically representing the peak of like the acute
phase of retinol. So some people can get it. Yeah, exactly. When your skin is blinking off. Yeah,
exactly. So some people can go over that phase and really, you know, build like a stronger skin again.
So those genes can come down. But I think the main message here is that if you overuse, if you're
constantly like really driving inflammation and redness, that's like a red flag or like a sign
that you should basically, you know, dial down and maybe retinol is not for you.
I'm not completely against. I just think it's really important to pair it with like products
that will be soothing and that will basically counteract some of those side effects.
So yeah, I think in general, like the industry has been pushing a lot of like, you know,
exfoliation and again, everything in moderation is good.
But I think we went too far like the strongest red now was the best one.
And now I think we are seeing kind of, you know, a reframe of that approach.
And the other things that we saw, which was also interested, is that a lot of the best selling anti-aging products,
because they contain not so safe ingredients, they can cause more damage than good
to your skin. So because we can grow skins in the lab and we can test every product,
we can see how a certain product affects the skin. And again, we bought some products that
were considered like the best selling and then we applied to the skin and the skin started to
degenerate. And we need you to name names. I know. So it's hard for me to name.
I'll just take a wild guess. But I think what again, now we're again,
getting more aware of the importance of like safe ingredients.
And there are a lot of organizations out there that help the consumer to really identify those products that may not be as safe for you.
So for one skin, for example, we got the seal from the National Excema Association.
There is also another one called Skin Safe Products.
So I know that none of them are perfect, but it helps the consumer to try to identify.
that product is safe because the first thing is like I can't I shouldn't be causing more harm
to my skin right I needed to first like maintain the health of my skin and then deliver benefits
so I think it was another important point and I think for the consumer it's so hard to know but
we have this platform that it's easier for us to see and really and now whenever I'm going to buy a
new product it's like if I want to try it I first test on these skins in the lab and then
It's like the pain, the response, like, okay, now I can use it. Or no, no, I'm not going to use this.
I mean, that is like the most amazing resource that you could possibly have. And I was kind of laughing when you were talking because I was talking to somebody a couple days ago about my skincare routine. And we were talking about ingredients. And I was like, well, yeah. So, you know, my first step is like a glycolic cleanser. And then I use, you know, this azalec acid. And then I'm using the salicylic acid. And he goes, that's why your skin is so good because it's raw. You're just burning your face off morning and night. And. And then. And then I'm using the salicylic acid. And then, and he goes, that's why your skin is so good. And he goes, that's why. And
I was like, maybe, like, maybe it's not the best approach.
But I think that a lot of people, to your point, are kind of re-evaluating their approach,
not just to skin, but to beauty.
And I think that people are learning more and they're more cognizant about what they're
putting in their bodies, what they're putting on top of their bodies, on their skin.
And I think that we tend to forget that the skin is an actual organ.
Yeah.
And that the skin protects us and the skin has a function.
So aside from appearance, like, why is it so important?
to take care of our skin on our entire body.
Yeah, as you said, our skin is our largest organ,
and the main function is to protect our internal body.
So to maintain our skin, like, functioning well and intact,
it's the most important thing to aid to our health,
because as our skin ages and the skin barrier weekends,
we also see that our skin gets more vulnerable
and more exposed to pathogens and environmental stressors.
So you get more pollutants coming in.
And that leads to an increase in inflammation in our skin.
And because, again, the skin is the largest organ,
even low levels of inflammation that are coming from our skin
can actually influence our internal levels of inflammation.
So I think this was another realization that we had
as we were studied skin and like the connection with our overall.
health is that, yes, obviously we want to look our best, but we also want to make sure that
the skin is not a source of inflammation for our internal body, if you want to live, you know,
our best, and we should take care of our body as well. And we even did a study with one of our
products, the body product, that we recruited like elderly patients and we collect their blood,
and they used the body lotion for three months, and then we measure their blood again,
and we could see a decrease in some inflammatory cytokines
just by treating the skin topically.
So again, improving the barrier and the structure of the skin on our body
can really help decrease inflammation and help our internal health.
And this is one thing that we don't care a lot when we're young
because obviously we don't feel like that pain.
But if you think about maybe your parents or grandparents
and how thin and fragile the skin gets.
And that's probably because we didn't take care of our bodies as we should.
And eventually it's going to really affect your quality of life.
So when your skin starts to tear and to bruise a lot easier,
people need to use band-aids and even the healing process becomes so much slow.
So all of that can be prevented by treating the skin of your body as well.
So that's something that we are really passionate about because we have many people reporting to us that they had a disease issue and now they got off the band-aids like and they have like the skin is healing well again.
So yeah, that means a lot.
Are there any things that are increasing the like degradation of our skin that we might not think about since you have this lab?
I mean, you can research everything.
You can test everything.
We all know sun damage, of course, is a massive one, and you talked about that a little bit before.
But is there anything that we wouldn't necessarily think of that we don't hear all of the time?
Yeah, I think in the end, it's a combination of the things that we already know.
So it's going to be, you know, basically what you're exposed to things that you are putting on your skin.
So obviously we think about skincare, but also there is makeup and there is other products that you may use.
Yeah, and then it's the other lifestyle choices that will impact your skin as well.
Okay, so when you guys were researching all of these peptides, how did you land on the peptide
that is like your hero and your products?
What did you see that made you go, whoa?
Wait a second.
Yeah.
So basically, well, the first thing that we did, we developed this platform that we can
replicate the skin aging.
So we can grow skins that look like a neonatal, like a baby skin.
and then like a 30 years old skin and they're like a 60 year old.
And then we can clearly see how the skin is changing,
which genes are going up or down, collagen is going down.
And then we use the cells from progeria donors.
Have you heard of progeria?
This is a genetic mutation that the kids age really fast.
And unfortunately, they die.
Yeah, around like 13, 14.
So we use cells from these donors,
because they accumulate a lot of those zombie cells,
and it's a way that we can screen or test molecules
and find which ones can be effective in decrease,
in the load of those senescent cells.
So basically we start testing this peptide.
We started testing like 200 peptides,
and we test on these cells,
and we can see the cells that are older synessence,
like we can stain then in blue,
and then we can see a decrease of the number.
of those cells in the lab. And then from this initial 200, we found four that worked really well.
We used an algorithm that we created out of this for 800 new peptides. And then we did the whole
process of screening again. And then eventually found one that decreased almost like 50% of
the number of these old cells. And then we were like, wow, okay, that's meaningful. But now we need
the first you validated that this is going to be reproducible.
So we needed to repeat like more than three times.
I think we repeat like, I don't know, over 10 times.
And then, okay, now we know that's effective.
Let's evaluate if this is safe, if it's not going to cause any change, you know,
in the careyotype or like any mutagenesis, any toxicity.
And then we went through that whole round of like validation, the safety.
And then eventually we needed to test in humans, the safety in humans.
as well. So that was the process of like testing the efficacy in cells and then testing the safety.
And then the last piece that we did to actually measure the, what we call the age reversal
capacity was to treat aged skins, like old skins that we could build in the lab and measure
what we call the skin's biological age. So basically we can determine the age of the tissue of
the skin by reading the skins.
epigenetics, so we can grow a skin that's like 50 years old, and then we can test a product,
and in this case we test our peptide, and we could measure that the peptide reversed the age
of the skin in 2.5 years. So that was pretty exciting. Yeah, that's actually the first ingredient
in the market validated to reverse the age of the skin, and we publish a scientific publication,
really describing the mechanism of action, and this is validated.
by, you know, other, it's a peer-reviewed, so other scientists.
So that's when we say, okay, we have something that's really meaningful here.
The best part that it does that without causing any side effects.
So it's very gentle.
It penetrates, like, into the dermal layer.
That's like the layer that produces collagen and basically helps, like, combating those
old cells, reduces inflammation, improves DNA repair,
And in the end, we see that increases collagen production to similar level that the retinal does, but without the side effects.
Wow.
I'm just curious, the skin that you have in the lab, is it just a thin layer, like a sheath or does it have all of the layers that we have?
So it's kind of a membrane, but it replicates like the epiderms and the dermal layer.
So the main two layers.
So we can see, for example, the cell renewal process, when we test with retinol, we can see the upper layer.
you know, coming out, we can see increasing the thickness of the dermal layers or more collagen.
So it has some limitations, but at the same time is the best model for us to predict how
something will work before testing humans. So I think the beauty of this model is that we will only
bring something to the market once we know that's actually, you know, delivering a lot of benefits
that's safe and that we understand how it works because unfortunately a lot of products out
there they're just mixing a bunch of ingredients and they pack it and put in the market and a lot of
times we tested this in the lab when you put more actives is not the best for you a lot of times
too many active is actually going to overreact it cause an overreaction on your skin so for us
we have this ability of really testing in-house first and then bringing to consumers.
Obviously, we also run clinical studies.
But once we know, okay, this is actually delivering, you know, the benefits that we expect.
Does anybody else have this kind of technology?
Because as you're talking, I'm thinking of all the major skincare brands out there.
I mean, the market is so saturated right now.
And I'm sure 99, probably more percent of them do exactly what you said.
there's a lab they're formulating they're testing different things together they try it for a certain
amount of time oh this is good and then you know maybe they do studies where they're doing it on people
with a control for two months three months something like that and then it's like oh this works
yeah but this is just such a more scientific precise process that it's kind of like comparing like
apples to rocks i mean you just can't yeah no exactly as far as i know in terms of
being founder-led that have the scientific background.
I'm not aware of another brand that does the same.
Obviously, L'Oreal invests a lot in research.
They also can grow skins in the lab.
But I think our main expertise is how we really specialize
on skin aging and cellulous and essence,
so how we can measure this, how we can quantify the age of the skin.
we're the first actually to be able to quantify this skin reversal effect,
while a lot of people, they claim that no one actually quantifies the way that we do.
So in terms of being able to develop, generate the data and bring this to consumers
and actually explain how it was tested and why it should improve your skin,
I think we are the only ones that can have this direct communication,
mainly also because we are on top of the latest research that's happening in academia
because we are scientists, so we're able to translate them faster to consumers.
That's our advantage when we compare to other, you know, bigger brands that actually have research,
but they're so slow that any new technology is going to take like five, ten years.
And we actually have seen this happening because right now skin longevity is becoming like a trend.
And there are a lot of bigger brands say, oh, we are about skin longevity.
But there is no real connection with like the science.
And we actually have been talking about this since 2016.
And we have all the data showing that, yeah, this is actually targeting aging and this is how it works.
So I think in that sense, it's, yeah, there are not many brands that are actually doing the same.
It's kind of amazing because I've always said, I don't really have.
many regrets in life, but I was a complete tanaholic when I was younger. I grew up on the East Coast,
early 2000s. We were in the tanning beds every day and then out any day that we could during the
summer. And it was back when like being as tan as humanly possible was like trendy, kind of before
spray tan. So, and I didn't use SPF until I was like, no, 29. And I'm starting to see some of the
effects of that. Yeah. And I'm like, I do the lasers and all the things. But I always
say to guests when we're talking about skin care, particularly if they're a scientist or a doctor,
researcher, like, are we ever going to be able to reverse our skin to like pre all of that?
Like, when is somebody going to come out with something that we can take or use topically or whatever
that will bring us back to when we had like that perfect baby skin? And they're like, well,
you know, people are working on it. But this sounds kind of like the next best thing. Like,
because it actually can reverse the age, the biological age of the skin. That's amazing.
Yeah. So, I mean, right now we have data showing that we can reverse, even like we have data not in the lab, but actually in humans.
So we have ran clinical studies that these are long term, like 12 months clinical studies that people are using their product.
And we actually need to collect a biopsy to measure like the age reversal.
So we can measure that we can reverse the age in humans.
Obviously, right now, the data that we have, we can reverse three years, we can reverse two and a half years.
So it's something that's definitely significant and meaningful, but it's not that's like, I'm going to, you know, I cannot tell you that you can reverse 10 or 20 years on your skin.
And that would be super dangerous.
I would not recommend.
But I think all of those incremental, you know, interventions that you are now, you know, taking advantage of is helping.
And at the same time that, you know, it took 30-something years for you to build up to where you are today.
It's going to take some time to reverse that.
But I think the exciting part is that now we know that's possible, aging is malleable.
We can reverse it.
We've done in the lab with a lot of confidence.
And now we are trying to translate these to humans in a way that's safe and that we can deliver these incremental results until technology evolves that we can.
can deliver, you know, even more significant results.
But you're on the right track now.
You're doing the things that you should do of, like, taking care of your skin and, you know,
using the supplements.
And I bet you've seen already, like, an improvement of your skin.
For sure.
I mean, when I started, I didn't really see the sun damage coming out until, like I said,
around 36.
I was like, whoa.
Yeah.
What is happening?
And I did, like, a few lasers.
And, you know, I used sunscreen.
And, like, I'm fine.
I kind of got rid of most of that damage that I'd seen accumulating. Now I'm seeing a little bit
of like the thinness in some areas and part of that is probably normal aging and yeah, you know,
I'm not trying to like be a certain age forever, but definitely reverse the damage as much as I
can. But I'm curious what you think is going to happen if you can even answer this in our lifetime
when it comes to aging, both internally and externally, there's so much money I would imagine, resources
going towards this particular area of health and longevity.
It's such a popular thing right now.
And obviously there's some outliers, look at a Brian Johnson who's doing his own experiments
on himself.
And then there's like the Dr. David Sinclair's of the world at Harvard.
And it really seems like it's kind of the next frontier.
And there's so many advances in the field.
But I'm curious, like, do you think that aside from increasing our lifespan, which
we've been doing in our lifetime in the next, I don't know, 20,
30, 40 years, are we going to see other major advances?
Yeah.
So actually, our lifespan is decreasing.
Oh, no.
I know.
Yeah, in the U.S., I think that doesn't surprise me.
I know, exactly.
So I think we have two problems to fix here.
One is actually go back to increase lifespan.
But the main one that, you know, the scientific community is interested.
It's around extending health span, right?
So how many years we live in good health and free of diseases.
And I think we are making huge progress.
And as you said, there is a lot of resources being put into it in terms of like
companies like one skin, but other longevity companies targeting these fundamental processes
of aging and really being able to quantify.
I think that helps us to track because when you can track any intervention, you can
definitely understand how much that is working for you. And you mentioned Brian Jones. I think obviously
he goes to the extreme, but I think eventually he'll be able to share something that is useful
for the regular person that wants to, they don't want to read all the papers that are out there
and do all these studies and then they can learn a few things here that can already help
them to optimize their health. So I think more and more we're seeing people that are, that
into this topic. And honestly, I'm so passionate about and so excited. And that's why I feel
that I'm, you know, I'm on the right place doing the right thing because I get to see everything
that's going on. And also technologies that are helping us to predict diseases earlier, right? So now
we can detect like cancer way earlier. Like we can do some blood tests and we can understand
all of our biological markers and you can do a scan and you can renewvo.
Exactly.
So all of those things, I think they're already helping.
Obviously, they are so new that we're going to take like a few years to see the impact.
But the most enthusiastic people in the field, they believe that we are going to reach what
we call like the escape velocity.
Have you heard of that?
It's basically because we are aging because we're accumulating more.
damage that we're able to repair. At the point that we're able to repair at the same rate that we
accumulate or even better, we can, you know, not age anymore. So that's like an interesting way
to think, okay, can we manipulate our biology in a way that we can actually reach that state?
And I believe that we'll get there and it will help us again, not to be immortal, but also
to prevent, you know, diseases and maintain our things.
issues and organs functioning well for longer. Well, yeah, you said something important, which was
health span. Yeah. Because it's like, well, what good is living longer and slowing down that process
of, you know, the damage that our bodies are unable to repair if we're kind of falling apart
on the other ways. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I can't enjoy it. But, okay, I want to get back to skin.
So your skin is amazing. I'm assuming that you use one skin products. Tell us your routine. Tell us how to
best use it. Yeah.
So I'm a proponent of a very simple, and that's one skin also philosophy routine.
We believe that you can achieve your healthiest, best skin with like few products.
So for me, I start with the night.
So I usually cleanse my face prep.
That's our gentle cleanser.
It's supposed to lightly exfoliate your skin, doesn't disrupt your skin microbiome,
and actually prepare your skin to absorb better the peptide.
So the peptide will penetrate and be delivered more efficiently.
So after that, I applied the eye cream.
One interesting data about the skin around our eyes that we found in our studies is that
the biological age just under or above our eyes is 20 to 30 years older than the skin around
I believe that.
Exactly.
That's my problem area.
But we didn't know how fast.
Okay.
Wow.
It does need like more help.
So we formulated this eye cream that has a higher concentration of the peptide.
And we actually tested in eyelid skins in the lab.
So we got eyelids from blephroplastic surgeries.
Yeah, maybe you got mine.
I wish you have.
Usually they are a little, yeah, older.
But anyways, so it's a very delicate skin.
And then we formulated this formula that's very powerful, but also gentle to the delicate
of skin of our eye.
And the clinical studies data from this product is like the strongest one that we saw in terms of like collagen production and even like giving a little bit of an eye lift, you know, effect.
So that's what I do.
Prep, eye, and then I come with the main moisturizer, the face moisturizer.
That's it for the night.
So no actives, except for the active in the cleanser that's gently exfoliating and then the peptide.
Yeah, the peptide and the moisturizer and the eye cream, they have a lot of other actives.
Got it.
So there is niacinamide, there are hyluronic acid, different molecular weights, one that's going to penetrate
and actually induce your own cells to produce more halaronic acid, not only sit on top of your skin.
There are a lot of antioxidants.
So our products, again, they are loaded with other actives in a way that is still beneficial, not too much,
but actually help not only targeting aging, aiding into these other areas that's important for our skin.
And in the morning, I don't cleanse my skin with the prep again because it's clean from the night before.
So I usually, after a shower, I put a body lotion.
That's, you know, one of my favorites too.
And then I applied the face moisturizer and the sunscreen.
And I'm done.
Wow.
I am jealous of that because my thing is like 12 steps.
That's amazing, though.
I do exfoliate like maybe a few times a week. Maybe I'll use some AHA or some exfoliant.
I would say the regular routine is very, very simple.
Do you have an opinion on other things that people are doing when it comes to aging,
Botox, fillers, lasers, all of that from a scientific level?
I think from the scientific level, obviously Botox is effective in erasing your ring.
because it's going to paralyze your muscle.
It's not necessarily making your skin behave like younger skin.
So for me, the preventative Botox, this is not a good approach
to actually paralyze your muscles and potentially lead to atrophy earlier than you need.
But I'll do Botox maybe once a year, maybe twice a year, whenever I go to Brazil.
But I do in a very light way, like my dermatologist called like a spray.
Botox that you know those micro doses so it becomes very natural yeah because you have movement you
don't have lines at rest but you have movement yeah it's really beautiful yeah yeah because i think
here we're used to seeing people frozen i know and that's like i'm so afraid of that please don't change
my natural faces so that's why i still do in brazil because i trust my dermatologist and then
feelers i don't love like the hyluronic acid ones because again to me it's all about it's
stimulating your own cells to produce like hyluronic acid or collagen. I do like, and also because
I'm afraid that they will change my face in a way that I don't like it, I do love the biostimulators
because, again, you are adding something to your skin that is going to activate your own fibroblast
to produce more collagen. So like a sculptor? Yeah, sculpture. Yeah. So I do like them. And in the lasers,
I'm like a fan of the ones that will penetrate a little.
deeper where like skincare sometimes don't reach, but I'm not a big fan of like the really
abrasive ones because I think whenever you are being too aggressive to your skin again,
you're compromised your skin health and eventually I think your skin can look so fragile and
sensitive and vulnerable that I prefer to be more mindful and do the ones that are not not
abrasive. I like ultrasounds, you know, different ways to stimulate it.
your inner layers of your skin that's not causing too much like stress. I think a little bit
of stress is good too much. It's probably not as good. In every area. Yeah. And I think a lot of
those are dependent on your body's own ability to heal. Yeah. Totally. Some people can tolerate more.
Yeah. But if you do again too much of it, yeah, can be dangerous in the long term.
Well, this is fascinating. I know the listeners probably feel the same way. I mean, just to hear
from your perspective because you are really in the science of it all. And again, like it's such a
saturated market. And I think people just don't know really where to start. So the simplicity of
