Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a dear media production. This is Well, a podcast about wellness in all its forms. I'm Ariel Lori, and each week I'm sharing unfiltered conversations with people shaping how we feel, live, and look. Come for the substance, stay for the honesty, and leave with the tools to be well, inside and out. Okay, welcome everybody to the first solo episode in my new studio. I should have done a solo when I first recorded here.
Starting point is 00:00:35 here, but things have been so crazy busy lately, and I'm just now getting to it. So, as always, I put up a question box on Instagram and I had you guys send in all of your burning questions. I divided them into some rapid fire and some quicker questions, the ones that I was getting a lot that don't require like a really in-depth answer. And then I think I'm probably going to go over some fitness and lifestyle and some beauty and see what else we get to in today's episode. I don't really feel like I have that many life updates to give other than that things have been so incredibly busy right now with things outside of the podcast and outside of content, other work endeavors, which I know I've been teasing for a while, that you're going to be
Starting point is 00:01:28 able to see relatively soon. and then some other projects that have come my way kind of unexpectedly. And we are traveling for a lot of the summer. So I'm in that crazy final work stretch where I'm trying to get everything done so that I can take my foot off the gas a little bit. Other than that, my house, which people ask about all the time, is pretty much done, not 100%. We have really taken our time on it because we want everything in there to be very intentional,
Starting point is 00:01:58 very bound, is just buying things to try to fill the space. Everything has a story and I will be sharing that soon as well. And other than that, life is good. Things are just really busy. I'm in a really, really busy season. But I also feel like, and this is fresh on the top of my mind right now because I literally was just recording with Alyssa Lynch right before this and we were talking about this.
Starting point is 00:02:25 I feel like I am kind of in like the best time of my life. life. And I say that because I feel like I'm in this sweet spot, right? I'm 40. I'm turning 41 in a couple months, which is crazy. I'm going to have to change my social media hook. But I'm aware that, like, I have my health. Everyone I love is healthy. My parents are still alive. My boyfriend's parents are alive. Like, I'm in this kind of bubble where I haven't been affected by things like the loss of people really close to me yet or losing parents or illness. And it just kind of like dawned on me. And I also feel like I'm in this stage of my career, which I'm sure a lot of people listening are in because we're all roughly in the same age group. But even if you're younger or a little bit older, this time of like
Starting point is 00:03:18 building. And it's cheesy, but I feel like it's not so much about the destination. I have goals that I have certain outcomes that I would like to happen years down the line. But I know that if that does happen, I'm going to look back on this time and just be like, God, that was the exciting time, like the building time, the growing time. Everything was good, you know. So I'm trying to lean in and appreciate that. And something that my mom said to me recently that I also shared on the Alyssa episode was that you get to a certain age and you really want to have taken advantage of every minute of your life. She's in her early 70s and we were talking about my travels coming up and just all of the things going on with my career and she just said, enjoy it and take advantage
Starting point is 00:04:08 of every single moment because you cannot go back. Dun, done, done. Not to sound ominous, but like you can't go back and maybe that will be a reminder or a nudge for somebody listening who is feeling a little bit, I don't know, jaded or lack of gratitude or disconnected or whatever to like look at all the good that you have right now and just appreciate that. I don't know how I went off on that tangent. This always happens. Okay, so I'm going to start with some rapid fire. Current skincare obsession.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Oof. I mean, this is like the hardest thing for me. It's definitely not rapid. I would say I have a few obsessions right now. One of them is my own. I'm not just saying that, but I have a product of my own that I'm using all the time that I am fully obsessed with. Another I would say is the Selimax dual barrier toner, which I've talked about before here. I just think that it's such a great barrier product for healing, for maintaining. I would say I'm very into body oils. I had May Lindstrom on my podcast and Oscar, were you here for that one? Yeah, you were. That was last week. The skincare. Sorry, I'm putting you on the spot. Oh my God. She glowed like I have never seen
Starting point is 00:05:38 somebody glow before you'll see when that episode comes out and she was talking about her shower oiling routine. I've always put oils on my skin wet when I get out of the shower. She does it in the shower. It's like a whole ritual. I've started doing that. I didn't do it before this episode. So I'm not glowing. So don't look at my skin. But she has two oils in particular that I have been absolutely loving. And I don't know. It's so hard because I'm sent so many things. And And I'm like a skincare junkie. So I'm always testing and trying things. And I really do love so many products.
Starting point is 00:06:16 I have my routines that I like that I come back to. But I really do love a lot of different products. And so when I share those on social media, I genuinely do love them and use them. Just not all at the same time. But I would say Selimax and the May Lindstrom oils, those are like my big ones right now. And then my own product, which is such a tease. sorry. Current workout obsession. I would say equal across Pilates and weight training for different reasons. And I'm going to get into that when I talk about my current routines because that was a common question that I got. But I would say both. And like not even really for anything that has to do with my body, but for the mental benefits that I get from working out. I'm in this tricky space where I want to work out every single day because of what it does for me, mentally, but my body can't physically work out every day because sometimes I'll push myself into a
Starting point is 00:07:13 flare with my immune thing that I deal with. So I have to like be very careful about towing that line. But I will get into all of that. Favorite Beauty Treatment. It kind of depends on what the goal is. I will say I had a facial yesterday with Vanessa Hernandez from VH skin. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with her. She came over. It was like the best day of my life. She brought all. of her machines and toys and everything. And my skin has been just so congested lately. I don't get facials enough. And I really wanted to have a nice clean out before I go on my trip. And she, oh my God, she extracted the shit out of my face, part in my language. And it was crazy. There was a lot. Last time I saw her, there was like one thing. This time there were like hundreds. It was
Starting point is 00:08:04 nuts for people who were into that kind of thing. But I was. I think a really good facial can really change your skin. I mean, it can clean you out, get you decongested. It can help to exfoliate, polish everything. She did some kind of oxygenating thing where I don't even know. It was like a tool that infused really pure hyluronic acid, I want to say. Maybe it had some vitamin C in it as well into my skin. And then she goes over it and blows on it with this like cold, pure oxygen. I did that. She did red light. We did microderm abrasion. So there are so many things. So many beauty things. And she and I were talking about all of them, including new lasers and things on the market. And I love a laser, but I think just as a really good foundation, getting a good
Starting point is 00:08:55 facial can be a game changer. And we should be doing that. Favorite healthy snack. I don't know if this is healthy, but something that I mean, it is, but I don't know if this is what the question asker meant, but I eat these dehydrated sweet potato sticks. They're like my favorite thing in the world. I think that's all they are. They might have a little coconut oil and sea salt, but it's just, I'm such a grazer. I'm such a snacker. I need to be kind of crunching on something throughout the day. and I carry these bags around with me, like they're everywhere. I have one like right off camera here. I have them in my car. That's kind of the only thing I snack on and sometimes I'll have fruit as well, but those sticks have me to chokehold. One thing helping my anxiety would be my meditation for sure. I've gone on and on about this meditation, so I'm not going to get into it here. And I'm doing rapid fire and I'm doing a terrible job at it. So I'm just going to say the waking up app, Sam Harris, non-duality meditation, 10 minutes guided. I think I have a code for it still. I'll put it in the notes. It's not sponsored at all. Just be loved by me. That really helps. But sometimes I just have
Starting point is 00:10:11 anxiety and it's just there and none of the things help it. And that's okay. And that's helping my anxiety. It's just like being okay. Actually in that meditation, he talks about like consciousness is just a condition in which things appear. when you can start to like detach from the things that are appearing in your consciousness, how you feel being one of them, whether that's anxiety or anger, frustration, sadness, whatever, you really recognize that it comes and goes and it's going to go. And as a result, you don't attach to it, or at least I don't. So that's been really helpful in changing my perspective when it comes to that.
Starting point is 00:10:52 Current comfort show, music, or podcast. My favorite comfort show is always sex in the city. I generally don't watch anything else unless I'm with my boyfriend and we're watching a show together, but he was away the last few days. And I just put it on because I've seen every episode probably not exaggerating at least a thousand times in the last 25 years. And it's just like having your friends in your apartment. I know that sounds very parisocial and weird, but that show raised me. and I still love watching it.
Starting point is 00:11:26 My comfort podcast, I have two. Armchair Expert and Juicy Scoop. Do you know those? Yeah. I have like a weird range. When it comes to podcasts, I don't want to listen to anything similar to what I do. I don't want to hear anything about wellness.
Starting point is 00:11:39 I don't want to hear anything about beauty, really. I just juicy scoop is like my brain candy and armchair expert. I just like the guests that they have on and the kind of relaxed vibe. that they create around their interviews, even when they're interviewing somebody who's an expert or, you know, talking about a subject that can be kind of dense. There's a way that they bring levity to that, that I really enjoy. So those are my comfort podcasts.
Starting point is 00:12:09 And let's see. One thing I would never do again, beauty-wise, you guys could answer this one for me because I've said it so many times. Threads, never again. I have so many more here, but I'm going to get to the questions. and then if we have time, I will come back to them. Spring and summer and especially pre-vacation always turns into this marathon of beauty maintenance for me, from the hair appointments to the manicures and pedicures, figuring out what treatments I want to do before trips and events,
Starting point is 00:12:42 trying to get my skin extra glowy before vacations, weddings, dinners, all of it. And obviously I focus a lot on the external side of beauty. But I also make sure that I'm supporting my skin from the inside of. out, which is why I love taking Hyacera from ritual. Whether I'm getting ready for a night out with friends or just trying to look a little more alive after traveling and nonstop work, I really notice that my skin feels more hydrated and smoother overall. I feel like I've had more of that healthy glow versus just piling products on top of dry skin. And I also love that ritual products are very clean and high quality. They're vegan, GMO-free and tested for heavy metals and
Starting point is 00:13:19 common allergens, which is very important to me as somebody who is uber sensitive. Hyacera is clinically studied to support moisturized skin that glows. And in a clinical study, it led to improvements in skin smoothness, elasticity, glow, and radiance over 90 days. I also love that it supports full body hydration from the inside out with just one capsule a day. Something so important, especially as we age. And at 40 and beyond, I know that we kind of lose our ability to retain moisture a little
Starting point is 00:13:47 bit every year. So very important. start hyacera to support your glow without compromising on clean science, you can save 25% on your first month at ritual.com slash well. That's ritual.com slash well for 25% of your first month. If you are in your late 30s or even you're like me in your 40s and you still periodically deal with acne, you know how frustrating it is, trying to find products that actually work without completely drying out your skin. But when I think of clear stem, I think of skincare that protects me from acne and aging at the same time.
Starting point is 00:14:21 So you guys know that I've dealt with adult acne and hormonal breakouts here and there, especially around stress, travel, hormones, all the things. And I feel like finding products that support clear skin without irritating the barrier is such a process. But Clearstem really has such amazing products that are effective, but still gentle and supportive for skin. One of the products that I keep recommending to friends all the time is the bounce back serum. I love that it gives you that healthy, hydrated glow while still fitting into an acne
Starting point is 00:14:48 safe routine. And if you're confused about where to start with clear stem, that is definitely one of the first products that I would try, but you can also go on their website and they give you so much guidance. I also love that clear stem focuses on both internal and external skin care and uses ingredients designed to avoid clogging pores. I'm so careful now about anything that can trigger breakouts and their viral bestseller mind body skin targets hormonal acne at the root without the harsh side effects. And overall, the line is just very aligned with where our skin is when we go from 30s to 40s, but even if you're in your 20s, 50s, whatever age you are, this is so effective.
Starting point is 00:15:27 And right now you can discover the clear stem difference because clear skin changes everything. Go to clearstem.com slash well and use the code well at checkout for 15% off your first order. That's C-L-E-A-R-S-T-E-M dot com slash well. Code well for 15% off. You guys know that I travel a lot. in fact, I'm traveling right now. And honestly, one of the biggest things that I notice when I'm constantly on planes, changing time zones, eating differently, sleeping less, and just generally out of a routine is that my gut and my immune system can really take a hit. And I am sensitive,
Starting point is 00:16:02 so I feel it immediately. I can get that low energy, rundown feeling. I can get bloated. So one of the things that I've become really consistent about, especially while traveling, is bringing my armor with me everywhere we live in an environment. Our biology was never designed for from EMFs to artificial light, processed foods, modern stressors, airline travel. I feel like the travel amplifies all of that. This is why I love Armacolostrum because it works at the cellular level to support your body from within. It is packed with over 400 bioactive nutrients that support immune health, gut health, and overall resilience. It also can help with your muscle recovery, fuel your performance. It helps with beauty, all of the things. But for me personally, I really focus on the gut health aspect
Starting point is 00:16:47 because when my gut feels off, everything else feels off. I also love that it's so easy to throw in travel sticks into my carry-on purse and stay consistent. Even when my routine is chaotic, it's one of those wellness habits that feels very realistic and easy to maintain. And I just feel supported overall, especially during busy stretches of work and travel where I might normally feel depleted. So I've worked out a special offer for my audience. You can receive 30% off your first subscription order. Go to armor.com slash well or enter well to get 30% off your first subscription order. That's a rmr.com slash well. This episode is sponsored by Rowe. I feel like GLP1 medications are one of those things that people assume are automatically out of reach financially.
Starting point is 00:17:33 So a lot of people don't even bother looking into them. And I think this perception that the process is confusing. The costs are sky high. Insurance won't cover it. People just feel like there's no point in even trying, but the reality is there may actually be more affordable options than people realize. Roe is helping eligible patients access FDA-approved GLP-1 treatment at the lowest cost available to them, whether that's through insurance coverage or lower-cost cash pay options. And what I think is really helpful is that they simplify what can otherwise feel like a very overwhelming process. Roe's free insurance checker makes it easy to see what GLP1 medications may be covered by your insurance.
Starting point is 00:18:11 You just submit your information and Roe handles the rest. There's no confusing paperwork, no waiting on hold, no trying to figure everything out yourself. And a few days later, you receive a report that explains which medications are covered and whether prior authorization is required. And even if insurance doesn't cover treatment, there are still options. Rowe offers low-cost cash pay FDA-approved GLP-1 options as well, including newer dosage forms like daily pills and multi-dose pens. So eligible patients can find an approach that fits their.
Starting point is 00:18:39 budget. Members also get ongoing support throughout the process with access to providers for any questions along the way. So you can go to row.co slash blonde today to see if you qualify. That's RO.co.co slash blonde to get started on row. Go to row.com slash safety for boxed warning and full safety information about GLP1 medications. So we'll start with just some light stuff. somebody asked, what is my biggest source of stress lately? I feel like I'm not in this place now, and I may have talked about this before, but I think the thing that I struggle with the most is pressure that I really internalize. I feel like I have a lot of different jobs and I wear a lot of different hats and I have a lot of work always. I feel like I should always be working. It's hard
Starting point is 00:19:32 for me to relax and take time off because I feel like even if I'm sitting there at nine o'clock at night, like, oh, I could be editing that video that's due next week, or I could be editing my podcast that's coming out next Monday, or I could be doing this or doing that, or I'm making dinner, but I should be filming the dinner because my last recipe that I did really performed well. It's very difficult to turn off, I feel like, when you have a job in this creative field, there's there's so many benefits to it. And I recognize that like it's such a blessing to have this job and have the autonomy to kind of make my own schedule and be my own boss and create this career that allows me to like live life in the way that I want to live it. But at the same time,
Starting point is 00:20:21 there are difficulties that come with that. So I put a lot of pressure on myself to always be working, always be producing. And then with these other projects that I have on the side too. Like that's another layer of pressure. I will say, I think the meditation is helping me so, so much with that internalized pressure because I feel like it's changed my perspective on what is real versus what are the stories that I tell myself that go on in my head. And I'm recognizing that as quickly as those stories come, they disappear because that's just the nature of my brain and it's not necessarily real. So that has helped me a lot. And then also just recognizing that I always get it done no matter what it is. So I don't need to rush. I don't need to have this sense of urgency all the time. I don't need to be on all the time. I don't need to be working all the time. I don't need to be doing all the things all the time. And I think it's hard to relate to if you're not in this industry because it probably seems like it's not that much work. And that like we can just post ourselves.
Starting point is 00:21:29 and make our silly videos and, you know, that's it. But there are so many variables and components that come along with this job that people don't see. So that would be my biggest source of stress, but it's something that I've been working on. And I think I've been successfully making incremental progress there. Conversely, what is currently bringing me the most joy? I would say the thing bringing me the most joy is just feeling more playful lately. And I don't know what that is a result of. Maybe it's an age thing. Maybe it is that recognition that like this is a really great time. And again, I'm like kind of attributing that to the meditation that I said I wasn't going to get into and here I am like harping on it. But I've been doing it for so many, many, many months. And I feel like it just changes you subtly. And I feel like those subtle changes are kind of compounding. And I'm like, huh. And I've told you guys, I first found out about it because,
Starting point is 00:22:28 because my ex-husband, I saw him and I was like, you're different. What is happening here? You're so light. Like something is weird. What are you doing? And he was like, oh, I don't know. I'm like doing this meditation. So maybe, and he was further along. So maybe that's what's happening here. But I don't know. Just like being my silly, playful self and like not feeling like I have to be anybody else for anybody else and put up any kind of facades and pretend and all of that, that is bringing me a lot of joy. There's a lot of freedom and like, it sounds so cheesy, but just being able to be yourself and like surrounding yourself with people who love and embrace that and then also vacation. Vacation is the prospect of vacation is bringing me a lot of joy.
Starting point is 00:23:19 One thing that I'm trying to improve in my life right now, I guess it kind of comes back to what I was saying before about like the pressure that I put on myself. I'm trying to improve that. I'm trying to improve time management, which is a struggle I think for all of us. What am I prioritizing this summer? I am prioritizing presence. I'm prioritizing my relationships. My boyfriend and I are so busy and, you know, we live together. But so you can live with somebody and not get that much quality time. We're so, so busy. We're good about having quality time. But vacation is like reconnect time. So I am looking forward to that. That's definitely something that I'm prioritizing, seeing my family more,
Starting point is 00:24:09 keeping up with my fitness routines. I'm going to segue into that because I don't have a ton of time today. And I got so many questions about that. I fall off and then get back on with the fitness routine so often. I feel like I have not been so consistent in so many years. And I mean, last year when I went away, I was gone for six weeks and I was kind of in a similar place where I had been working out a lot prior and felt like I was making strides when it came to just my tolerance for exercise and also like progress with my body decomposition and things like that. And then I went to Europe and it was like all bets were off.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I did not work out once. And when I go to Europe, I live on Coke Zero, French fries, bread and butter and pastries and gelato. Probably other things that I'm not thinking of. That's it. I mean, yes, like fish and all of that. But pasta. So I know that I'm entering into that phase. And this time I'm, actually do really want to keep up with my routines. I'm cognizant of the fact that the way that I've been able to stay so consistent here is through classes and trainers. That's the only way. We just cannot find the initiative to work out at home and work out hard at home. Yes, I can do, I don't know, like a guided Pilates or a sculpt class or a strength or something like that. But like it is nowhere near the exertion that I'm going to put out if I'm doing it in a gym with a trainer and I
Starting point is 00:25:48 essentially like can't quit and I'm getting pushed to that last rep and it's progressive and all of that. So I don't know that I'm going to be able to keep that up while I'm traveling. I just, I feel like getting that consistency has shown up in other areas of my life because when you're making a commitment to yourself and you're keeping that commitment to yourself, you are building confidence, you are creating new habits, you are essentially like creating new neuronal pathways, right? Building self-esteem. And really, like I said before, I think the biggest benefit that I'm getting from my workout routines now are the mental benefits, meaning like reduction and anxiety, more clarity.
Starting point is 00:26:38 I didn't work out this morning, which is why I'm like not clear at all right now. But for example, last week I had a big meeting and I was like, I need to like get in the right zone. So I made sure that I booked a workout class that morning a couple hours before that meeting because I knew that it would put me in my most clear mental state, reduce some of that like, not even anxiety, but that like excitement. I think a lot of times excitement and anxiety can feel the same in your body. So where was I going with that question?
Starting point is 00:27:08 Somebody asked how I plan on maintaining this summer. So I think I'm just going to try to set a realistic goal of like three workouts a week maybe. And I can suss out what the gym situation is. I have the latter app, which I love because that's like actually having a trainer in your phone versus doing like a random workout. it can actually build you a routine and make it progressive. And I feel like it just helps get results better than doing a random workout. And then, depending on where I am, there might also be Pilates classes and all of that. But I do think that one of the biggest things with wellness is the ability to be adaptable, right?
Starting point is 00:27:52 And there are going to be times in your life where you can't work out or you can't do fill in the blank, whatever your thing is that's bringing you a lot of balance. And those are the times when you have to adapt. And somebody asked me what actually made the biggest difference for me over the last year when it came to my consistency. And I feel like I kind of went into it with that attitude. I didn't go into it like I'm going to do this five or six days a week. I remember Kenny Santucci. So he was on my podcast last week and he's been on before and he said something that really stuck with me last time. And it was that the way he gets people back into routines is by only letting them work out once a week. And I was like, what? And he said, yeah, I make you crave it. And I thought that was so smart because I'm such a
Starting point is 00:28:52 zero to a hundred person and I tend to be like a perfectionist. And so if I start doing something, I'm not just like doing it. I'm doing it so hard perfectly. And then if I miss a day or whatever the case may be, then I kind of get the fuckets and it starts to unravel and my motivation starts to dwindle. And so I kind of took his approach where I started really slowly. And I had to do that also because physically I had exercise intolerance. So if I worked out too much, it just would make me essentially sick. So I had to start really slowly, but that made such a big difference for me. And like getting back into the habit of working out and building a consistent, sustainable routine was that like I craved it. I really craved it.
Starting point is 00:29:39 And I still do. And I think that sometimes if we try to do too much too hard, the opposite happens. You need a break. You're like, oh my God, this is too much. I need a day off. Your body is yelling at you. I've been there and done that. And I think that this approach was so much more sustainable.
Starting point is 00:29:57 Someone asked, do I think Pilates alone is enough to change your body? Yes, I do. But I think there's a caveat. So I think it really comes down to your genes and your body type. So I think that there are certain body types. Like if you're really petite and naturally lean, I think that that is conducive to getting really good results from Pilates. I think that strength training. or weightlifting, like the evidence is out. We know that it's non-negotiable, especially for women who deal with such massive hormone fluctuations and loss of bone density and osteoporosis and osteopenia. It can totally change your life if you have that when you get older. And you don't want to be in a situation where like you can't do things because your bones are too fragile. You can't do things that used to enjoy or God forbid you fall, it can just have like a total domino effect. So strength training is a non-negotiable, but as far as body composition, I think that people just don't talk enough about genetics and how much of a role they play. So I think Pilates can do a lot. It can definitely
Starting point is 00:31:17 help with mobility. It can help with flexibility. It can definitely tone and tighten things. I don't think that you can necessarily add a ton of muscle with Pilates. People might correct me, but you can definitely tone the muscle that you have, if that makes sense. So that's why I think Pilates really complements strength training so well because they're doing different things and they have different functions and different objectives. but when it comes to composition, I also think the combination of the two
Starting point is 00:31:54 is kind of the unlock for getting that lean-toned physique that a lot of people I know are going for. What's actually made the biggest difference in my body composition over the last year? I don't feel like mine has changed that much. I really don't. So jury is still out on that one. My split right now is either two days a week of strength training and two or three Pilates.
Starting point is 00:32:20 or the other way around, like three strength training, two Pilates. I'm doing four or five days a week of some kind of training. And then the other days I'm trying to walk. But the split kind of depends on the week. And yeah, I have not noticed a huge difference in my body composition. But I have kind of like a lean athletic build to begin with. But I feel strong. And that's the best thing.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Like I feel so much stronger. And I can feel myself making progress. and that feeling is addictive as well. So a lot of people who followed me for a long time, I guess it was probably around 10 years ago now, I was like big into Kayla at Sina's BBG and I was tracking macros at the time and it became pretty toxic for me.
Starting point is 00:33:07 So I stopped doing that because I just felt like I was under-eating, but I was curious because I felt like, well, I'm working out so much Yes, I deal with puffiness from MCAS and from the meds that I take for it. However, I was like, I feel like I should be getting more tone than I am. So I downloaded my fitness pal again just to put in like my macros for a normal day to see where I was at. And I was shook, okay?
Starting point is 00:33:34 I don't care about calories. I really don't care about macros. But I kind of wanted to see where I was with like protein. And I was curious about the other two. I wanted to see where I was with fiber. And the protein. that I eat so much of ground turkey, 93% lean, is like so fatty. I realized that the amount of servings that I was eating a day were kind of sabotaging me
Starting point is 00:34:00 when it comes to the fat. Same thing, like eating that and a lot of salmon. Those are both very fatty proteins and some other things. I was like, I'm kind of calteaning myself. I don't know if you guys watched Mean Girls, but the calteen bars. Do you see that? Yeah. So I was like, oh my God, I calteened myself with my turkey and my salmon. And look, I mean,
Starting point is 00:34:24 nothing wrong with that. But I was like, I might want to like add some more lean protein into the mix versus like fatty protein. And then maybe I'll see a bigger difference in my body composition. But anyway, I went over in my last solo episode, my typical what I eat in a day. And that doesn't really change too much. And I do go out to eat a lot. And food is just something that I really don't. obsessed over. But like I said, I was curious to kind of see where I was at with protein and everything. And I was like, okay, I'm kind of under eating protein, but like really doing big numbers with the fat there. And that was helpful for me. And now I'm not going to log it or anything. I think macros are fine for certain people. If you can do it without getting obsessive. And if you have certain goals or weight loss
Starting point is 00:35:12 goals or body composition goals or whatever the case may be. But for me, intuitive eating, It's fine. And I really don't limit anything. I feel like I just eat a really balanced day of eating, which is like oats in the morning with protein powder or yogurt with protein powder. I'm not a big egg person. I recently made my own turkey sausage. So that was good for breakfast. I'll do protein pancakes sometimes. I'm not a huge breakfast person, but I kind of forced myself. Chia pudding. I have a few bites of whatever before I have my macha, that makes a huge difference. I have maybe half a smoothie as a post-workout snack only because that's all I really need. It's not like I'm not trying to drink the whole smoothie. I just, I have half and I'm satiated or I'll have like a bar, lunch. I have some
Starting point is 00:36:02 kind of protein leftover from dinner, usually rice, veggies. And then same thing for dinner. And like I said, I was snacking on those sweet potato chips or apples, things like that. I am talking a lot in this episode about fitness and how to get consistent and what I do to stay consistent. But if you are in a time where you are traveling a lot or you can't necessarily get a trainer or go to classes, then I have a platform that is actually amazing that I've used off and on for so many years, which is obey fitness. So I've especially loved their yoga sculpt and Pilates.
Starting point is 00:36:41 classes. I throw in some strength workouts sometimes if I want a little more structure in my routine. But what I really like about it is that it's designed for real life. So obey fitness is a digital fitness platform. It gives you structured workout programs and expert-led classes designed to help you stay consistent and see real results. It's built for real life with effective workouts that you can do anywhere in as little as 10 minutes. And that's something that I love so much about the platform. It's really customizable. You can search by what equipment you have on hand. You can search by how much time you have. There are so many different options and they have everything in one place. Strength training, Pilates, cardio, recovery, mobility. So whether your goal is building strength,
Starting point is 00:37:23 improving body composition, increasing energy, or just moving more consistently, there's something that fits into your lifestyle. I also think it's great for people with busy schedules or who travel a lot because you can genuinely do it anywhere and still stay on track. The workouts are. efficient, the instructors guide progression and form really well, and the structured programs remove so much of the guesswork that normally makes people fall off with fitness routines. So try obey fitness free for 30 days at obeyfitness.com with the code well. That's obeyfitness.com, obe fitness.com, obe fitness.com, and the code as well for your free 30-day trial.
Starting point is 00:37:59 If you don't understand the hype around skims, I implore you to try the fits everybody collection. I am not kidding when I say I probably own at least 30 pairs of the fits everybody thong at this point. It is my default everyday underwear for years. It's the only thing that I'll wear unless I am spicing things up, but it is comfortable, sexy, flattering. It's just the perfect balance of all three. You really don't even feel like you are wearing anything. It is truly what I wear every single day. I think most women know the struggle of underwear that either digs in. It shows through your clothes or your leggings when you're working out. It rides up or just feels uncomfortable by the middle of the day. And somehow the skims fits everybody's collection completely solves that.
Starting point is 00:38:43 The fabric is insanely soft and stretchy and literally melts onto your body. It feels like you are wearing nothing in a way that's smoothing and flattering under clothes. I also love that it works with everything, workout sets, dresses, leggings, travel outfits, all of it because it completely disappears under clothing and doesn't cut into your skin. And the trying to be. And the trying to Browlet is my other favorite because it's lightweight and comfortable, but still supportive and flattering at the same time. It doesn't give you any lumps or bumps or bulging anywhere, which is surprisingly hard to find. And again, so comfortable. I feel like everyone always says Skims lives up to the hype, but I didn't really believe it until I bought in. And once you try the fits everybody
Starting point is 00:39:26 fabric, it's truly hard to go back to anything else. So shop Skims fits everybody collection at skims.com. After you place your order, be sure to let them know that I sent you. So select podcast in the survey. Pretty pleased and be sure to select my show in the drop-down menu that follows. I do not have to tell you that there's so much noise in wellness and longevity right now, and it can become really overwhelming, really fast. Everybody has stacking a million supplements and trying such extreme protocols. But for me, I am much more interested in the foundational things that support how my body actually functions.
Starting point is 00:40:01 underneath everything else. And this is why I love timelines mitopure gummies. I've talked about these before. They are longevity gummies designed to support cellular energy, which honestly becomes more important the older that you get. I think people underestimate how much things like energy, recovery, strength, and even how resilient you feel day to day, really start at the cellular level. So mitopure is powered by urolithin A, which helps support mitochondrial function, basically helping support the little energy generators inside your cells. And I like that this isn't positioned as a quick fix or extreme anti-aging. It feels more like a supporting your body thing in a foundational way so that you can continue feeling strong, active, and vibrant long term. I keep them right
Starting point is 00:40:48 next to my matcha in the morning. So it's something that I actually remember to take consistently. And especially with how hard I'm training right now and travel and work, I have become way more focused on supporting my energy and recovery in a deeper way instead of just chasing temporary boosts. So support yourselves and how you age with mitopure gummies from Timeline. Visit Timeline.com slash well 20 to save up to 39% off your mitochondrugmies. That's timeline.com slash well 20. Okay. I'm going to switch to beauty because we don't have a ton of time.
Starting point is 00:41:26 What beauty treatments have I done lately that have genuinely been worth the money? Definitely fractal, which I did in, I believe it was March. I did my face, neck and chest, and then I did my chest again three weeks ago now. The second one that I did on my chest made a huge difference. So I've never actually done a series where I've done a few back to back pretty closely. And now I see why they recommend doing that for certain people or certain concerns. Mine was to target pigment in my chest. And I mean, later, are worth the money. You just have to be so careful because some lasers aren't good for some skin types and you can have devastating results if you go to the wrong practitioner or they're
Starting point is 00:42:12 using the wrong settings. So you want to make sure that you are going to somebody super reputable, knowledgeable. I know that it can be hard to figure out who those people are. So I would just ask friends who have had good results and try to make sure that. that you're getting references and not just looking at pictures on Instagram because people can be really good marketers and they can be sneaky marketers and lasers are just not something that you want to fuck with when it comes to your skin because you can be permanently scarred. That said, if you can find a good practitioner and they guide you on what's right for your concerns and the outcome that you desire, they can be amazing. It's like there's a good practitioner. It's like
Starting point is 00:43:00 there's nothing better, but you still have to do the homework when you're at home 99.999% of the time. And that's something that Dr. Bonu Sali talked about on my show a few weeks ago. I think that there is a misconception that these things are one and done and you can like get a laser and then you don't have to wear makeup and you don't have to like take care of your skin. And I know you guys are smarter than that, but that's definitely not the case. But that's genuinely worth the money. And then like I said before, the facial totally worth the money. I think that we all need at least bare minimum quarterly. Just get a good clean out and have somebody assess your skin and see what's going on with it if you're having any issues.
Starting point is 00:43:42 Instead of just guessing what has made the biggest difference in my skin overall. For me, skincare. Yeah, skincare. It's hard to say because I've done so many things. But it wasn't until I got on the right skincare. that I really started seeing changes in my skin because I had done fractal and I had procedures. I did all the things prior to seeing Candace in 2022 when I was dealing with acne. Prior to that, I had done all those things and my skin was just not at all what it is now.
Starting point is 00:44:17 It's so much thicker and bouncier now and I haven't done sculptra or anything like that. And since 2023, I just did a face laser for the first time this year. So it's not that. So I really attribute it to, again, what I'm doing at home, like 99.999% of the time, that's making the biggest difference. And I say this all the time. Skin care can do a lot, but it can't do everything. And then that's where those other things come in.
Starting point is 00:44:45 You can play with the lasers and the injectables or whatever, but you still need to be taking care of that canvas. What is my current skincare routine? I was actually breaking out in the last few weeks, so I went back to my Jan Marini, like through and through. I think that there is nothing better, at least in my experience, for acne, adult acne, than her skincare management system. So it's the glycolic cleanser, her vitamin C, her bioclear, which is like a salicylic and it might have glycolic in it. I can't remember exactly. And then I do a retinol, her moisturizer, her sunscreen, just those products because I've used them before for acne. I know what to expect. But other things that I have in my rotation now that I love, let's see, I've been using the Ptioxx and the Claren's double
Starting point is 00:45:39 serum when I want to look really dewy. I love the allies of skin growth factors. I love the allies of skin copper. I love the allies eye cream. I love the allies clay mask. What else? Estella Maxx, like I said. I love the urina forte mist. I can't remember which one it is. I love her eye cream too. There's something else that I used recently that I loved drawing a blank. Oh, I like the Medicaid. I think Medicaid in general has great products, but I like their vitamin C. I like their growth factors. I like their vegan PDRN that just came out. See, this is where I get in trouble. There's too many products that I like. What is an underrated beauty habit that makes a huge difference? I think tinting your brows and your lashes. And this is something that Alyssa
Starting point is 00:46:37 and I were talking about too. But it's one of those high maintenance to be low maintenance things that makes such a big difference on your face. And I've put it in all of my lists in the past. So I'm sure you guys have seen it. It makes your face look so much more refined. I'm getting mine done tomorrow, which is why my face does not look refined right now. But even the at home tint, I use the refacto. So I have links for it on my Instagram and on my LTK. I've been using it forever. it just makes such a big difference in your face. What instantly makes somebody look healthier and more attractive to me? I think the people who are most attractive to me are the people who are comfortable in their
Starting point is 00:47:20 skin. I don't even necessarily need confidence. I just think comfortable in their skin. And I think somebody who is not so focused on themselves and is focused on others and is like curious and lifting other people up. Like what makes people so attractive to me are not physical qualities at all, which I'm sure sounds kind of hypocritical because I do all of the beauty things. But I do that to take care of my skin and the things that I've done in the past. I've always said I felt like my outside didn't match how good I felt on the inside when I got
Starting point is 00:48:01 sober. I think like, and it's, I'll go off on such a tangent on this, so I'm not going to, but like we live in such a time where people online at least are just shitting on each other. Putting everybody down, I'm on the receiving end of it all day, every day, which I don't care. I'm not like saying I'm a victim or anything, but I just see it all the time. And I'm like, God. And especially like women to other women. And I'm like women putting other women, appearances down and like judging. And I'm just like, that's so ugly. There's nothing uglier than that. And conversely, like people who like hype other people up and make them feel hopeful and make them feel better and want to lift them. Like those people are magnetic.
Starting point is 00:48:53 And the other people, you're like, you're like, ugh, get the fuck away from me, you know? Like whatever the opposite of magnetic is. Okay. I won't. go off on my whole tangent on that. Have I dissolved filler or changed my approach to injectables over time? I have not dissolved filler. I've also not gotten filler except for a little bit in my lips since like 2022, I want to say. So those people who I was just talking about were commenting on my filler face. I don't have filler. I have a very reactive. I wake up so puffy sometimes. So I think even And sometimes I look at my face and I'm like, God, I look like I got bad filler. In fact, I did an episode with Aaron Walsh in New York.
Starting point is 00:49:39 It was a great episode. But the video, I was so puffy because I had gotten to New York the day before, the flying, the eating late because I had gotten to the city late, waking up early. It was in a bad flare with my immune thing. I was taking all the meds. And I was like, we can't post this. I looked like I got 50 syringes of filler put in my face. It was horrible.
Starting point is 00:50:01 But yes, to answer your question, my relationship to filler and injectables absolutely has changed. I won't get into the Botox of it all. But yeah, I think in the past, before I knew better, as I think a lot of us were, I was using filler for volume. And then I got fat transfer in 2021. And I think we did dissolve before that or maybe it was like dissolved. I can't remember. And then after that, I did it maybe once to just try to get a shadow. People ask me all the time, like, can you get the same thing that you get from fat transfer from
Starting point is 00:50:35 filler? No, because you should not be using filler for volume. Filler should be used in like tiny amounts, in my opinion. I'm not even a doctor, but I'm just pretending. It should be used in tiny amounts just for like the shadows on your face and to like highlight or accentuate something a teeny bit, but not for volume. So that's how my relationship has changed with it and that I don't do it anymore. What treatments are actually worth doing before an event or vacation? I would say a facial. I would say depending on how much downtime you have, a light peel or like a PRX is good before an event because that doesn't have any downtime or maybe an IPL if you have like a week
Starting point is 00:51:23 or so of downtime. V-Beam is really good. if you have redness. What else? Lash and brow tinting. Always before an event or vacation. I'm going to do some rapid fire here to close out. What is one beauty product category that's mostly marketing? I would say the collagen category. I think that collagen is thrown around so much and you can't get collagen from beauty products. So that's definitely one. What is my I need to look alive in 20 minutes routine. This one I got.
Starting point is 00:52:00 Eye drops. Brow gel. My clear eyelash mascara thing that I love. And then I'll do a skin tint, a blush, a lip liner, smudge it around,
Starting point is 00:52:15 lip gloss. And that's it. It's like fresh face. You look alive. The brows will make you look instantly done. I love a clear mascara right now. And yeah, just a little color in your cheeks and a nice glowy tint and lip gloss or bomb or something. You're good to go.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Okay, what's my current Hot Girl Walk playlist vibe? I'm all in on the new Drake, actually. Have you listened to it? There's one album in particular. Habib T. Habib T. H-A-B-B-T-I-B-T. That's definitely my favorite. That's on my playlist. I still, for all of my workouts, do the weekend, hurry up tomorrow, that album.
Starting point is 00:53:04 It's my performance enhancer. So I do that during my workouts. But usually when I'm walking, you guys know, I schedule my meetings in the middle of the day. And I go to my walking route and I walk during all of my meetings because I just cannot sit there. Unless I have like a Zoom where I'm meeting somebody for the first time or I have to be watching a presentation or look at things that they're putting up on the screen. other than that when I'm walking, I am in meetings, I'm on calls, or at the very least, voice noting with friends. What is one thing that instantly makes me feel prettier or more confident? Spray tan. Spray tan is my instant dopamine, serotonin, whichever.
Starting point is 00:53:46 One thing I always do before traveling, there's a million things I always do before traveling. There's a million appointments. I'm sure you guys have seen those videos that are going around of like nothing is more expensive than me before a vacation. It's like you should just put me on the conveyor belt of like all the things. Men don't understand. Maybe some women aren't like this. I'm sure some women aren't like this. But for a lot of us, it's the spray tan. It's the nails. It's the hair. It's the brows. It's the lashes. It's the lasers or the waxing or the whatever. Literally, it's a full-time job. So there are a lot of things. do before travel. Okay, I'm going to stop there, but I hope that you guys enjoyed that and that there was
Starting point is 00:54:32 something of value in there. And I will be back with another solo in a few weeks after my first summer travel. And I'm sure I'll have a lot to catch you up on then.
