Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Katie. Hi Alan. How are you? I'm alive, you? You? You know, today I watched Bring It On and then played an hour of Mario Kart. Oh my God. I'm doing pretty all right.
Starting point is 00:00:28 You're doing pretty all right. Also it is the year 2000 in your home. I was wondering why you had frosted your tips again. You heard the shimmy of mijencos as I came upstairs. I find it interesting you shaved that enormous beard you had just so you could have a soul patch. It's an enormous soul patch though. It's so bushy.
Starting point is 00:00:53 So that's how I'm doing. So the year is 2000. You're driving a Geo Metro, I presume. Oh no, I've upgraded to a tracker. A tracker. That's what it's called. Geo trak is is the the the the thra is is is is the the thrara is ther was the ther A tracker, that's what it's called. Ah, GeoTracer, you're right. The Metro was the sedan version. You're right, it was like a go-cart.
Starting point is 00:01:11 It was a literal go-cart. I assume you're listening to the band MEST because that's what you're listening to in your geotracker? Of course. Yep. And you're really into cheerleading. And wearing ball chains as jewelry. I gotta say, I wore ball chains as jewelry. And I liked it. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. This movie came out when I was a senior in high school. So this is very, um, this is my, I mean, this is like totally what my life was like, totally. You pretty much are torn shipmen. Except I'm like, um, just like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, what my life was like, totally. You pretty much are torn shipman.
Starting point is 00:01:46 I accept I'm like, just like a little bit thinner. Just like a little bit more in shape. I mean I was. Are you more of a missy pantone? Are you more of a bad girl? I think I would have liked to have been the bad girl of gymnastics, but that was just like not in the cards for me...... I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, th, tho, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, theeea, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to have been the bad girl of gymnastics, but that was just like not in the cards for me. I was like the bad girl of AP Physics. The idea of the bad girl of gymnastics is just hilarious to me.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I always think of this scene in Karate Kid Part 3 where Mike Barnes, don't you spit that out? Mike Barnes, the villain, there's like a flyer for his, I don't know, his karate work, and it just says, karate's bad boy. And I always think, like, what am I the, like, what can I be the bad girl of that's totally mundane? Wherewilfamil is bad girl, Katie. To be fair, I am both the good girl and the bad girl of Wurow Ambulance. So this film opens on a cheerleading routine. That is also a musical. Also a musical, also very vulgar.
Starting point is 00:02:52 Yes. You can look but don't you hump. And I swear I'm not a whore our lines in this, in this, this routine. I wasn't shocked. No. But also, seem out of place. No. But also, like imagine being able to dream an entire cheerleading routine. Like she dreamed that.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Why does she have so much trouble later in the movie? I don't know. Why can't she keep her shirt on? I don't know. Uh, she cursed and dunced. What a gem. National Treasure. She's a precious baby angel in this movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, even more so than the movie where she was an actual child. Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:03:30 This is our second cursed and dunce. Yeah. Oh man, was she powerful in that movie? She was the best part of it for sure. Mm-hmm. Best part of this too. Oh, maybe not. Maybe Gabrielle Union. God, she's a goddess. Do you know how how th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thi tho tho tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho tho th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. the the the thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah maybe Gabrielle Union. God she's a goddess. Do you know how old she is in this movie? No I do not. She's 28 years old. She looks like a teen. You know how she is now? Still 28. Still 28 but still looking like a teen. She is like, I think science should study that woman to see how she is so perfect. Wow. I'm just very sick of her being so much more perfect than me. You hear that Gabrielle Union I'm coming for you. I had a friend asked me today how Eddie Vedder can still be so handsome. What? To which I replied, probably because he's a millionaire. Is Eddie Vetter still...
Starting point is 00:04:24 Was Eddie Vder still handsome? Was Eddie Better ever handsome? Oh, bite your tongue! Of course he was! I want to see what he looks like now, hold on. I've never had a thing for Eddie Vetter, I gotta say. Hmm. Uh, would have, yeah, I would have.
Starting point is 00:04:43 We wouldn't now, though? I mean, probably not. I'm just real low energy these days, though. What if Eddie Vedder did all the work? You know, it's a, it's a no for me, dog. All right, all right. Different strokes? Doesn't look enough like a weird old dad for me. Even today? You hear that Mitch Pallegy?
Starting point is 00:05:13 Oh God, ugh! Assistant Director Walter Skinner is extremely sexy. I like that we'll never have to compete for men. No, no, we have entirely separate tastes. All right. All right, so this movie. She wakes up from the dream and then goes to actual high school. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Where she's driven to actual high school by her boyfriend in his, uh, Geotracker. I like that he's leaving to go away to college that day, but he's still driving her to school, which seemed odd to me. Yeah, he's like has a microwave in the back seat. And shit just hanging out the back window. Yeah, he sucks. Yeah, he's terrible. What's his name? Aaron? Aaron? Yeah, I like how this movie uses musical tastes to draw like a line of cool between him and Jesse Bradford? Where Jesse Bradford's wearing like a clash t-shirt, but then when you go to Aaron's dorm room, he has like a Sugar Ray and Matchbox 20 poster and a hoodie and the bluefish tapestry? I love it because it's obviously the man who is 40 years old at the time this movie's being made, being like, yeah, this is what's cool.
Starting point is 00:06:27 Totally. But you know what, Jesse Bradford in this movie? Very cool. You don't think he's... Cliff Pantone? He's so hunky. He was like very hunky for me when I was in college. That's what I figured he had a special place in your heart. You ever see swim fan with Erica Christensen?
Starting point is 00:06:45 No. Maybe you can do that sometime. It's a thriller. It's like a stalker thriller. It's on the level with like single white female. Okay. Or maybe a fear. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:58 So, uh, Kirsten Dunn says Torrance Shipman. What a fucking name by the way. Everyone's names, Missy and Cliff Pantone. You don't like the idea of Italians in San Diego? I just, Missy and Cliff is what really threw me off. Fair. So Torrance becomes the head of the cheerleading squad. Mm-hmm. The captain. That's what they head of the cheerleading squad. Mm-hmm. The captain.
Starting point is 00:07:27 That's what they call it these days. My first note is this is bringing back color guard memories for me. Talk to me about color guard. I was a runner in color guard. I was the guy who picked up the flags when they dropped them. I had no idea. How did you get involved in that? My girlfriend was in Color Guard so I was like, well we can hang out more. If I joined the Color Guard, what did your friends think about you joining
Starting point is 00:07:53 Color Guard as a high school boy? Who? My poor sweet angel baby friend? They were fine with it. I'd smoke cigarettes with them later. Very cool. This movie made me remember that I wore tube tops in college. You did not. I did. Like I got to college and all my clothes were like, you know, I dressed like a little boy
Starting point is 00:08:25 because I'm into emo in the years 2001. So I would like borrow clothes to go to parties from like girls that lived on my dorm room floor and I would just be there in like a fucking sparkly-ass tube top, jeans, flared jeans. There's nothing about a tube top that seems comfortable to me. No, they're stupid. That's how your boobies are falling out at the cheerleading game. Probably wearing a tube top. Cheerleading game. Cheerleading game.
Starting point is 00:09:00 My next note is Katie should definitely watch Buffy the vampire slayer the TV show. You think so? The high school in this looks just like the high school in Sunnydale and At least two people maybe three are in the Buffy series that are in this movie. Oh cool. Although there's something that bothers me about high school sets where the students are all walking across like a quad like it's a fucking college campus. Like you're just in a building't lie it's not like that in California is it? I don't know we had a quad at my high school in Delaware really yeah it was just a bunch of asphalt but I went to high school in like a big brick building and you never got to leave the building we had to to to the the buke to walk between oh building. We had two big brick buildings that you had to walk between. Oh wow, that is a campus. Well there were like, I don't know, 1,500 people in my high school. Yeah, it was pretty big. Yeah, Delaware High, class of 92. We still haven't gotten that poetry.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Melod in, former Delaware High Ians. Go Taurus. So Kirsten Dunst, Torrance, begins her reign as Rancho Carnay High School cheer captain by making her squad perform like the most difficult pyramid known to man. Yeah, it was called like the double wolf wall or something. I was not listening. Because I was too busy thinking about the beginning of all cheerleaders die when that spoilers for that movie but it's in the opening scenes when the woman gets dropped on her neck and dies. Oh that's right. Yeah this is just like a real tame version of that. The woman who falls in this is an excellent physical comedian. You think so when she's
Starting point is 00:10:39 doing her like crutching around stuff. And when she's like falling she'd be, uh-oh, oh, and then she goes. That's awesome. It made me laugh. Yeah, I mean, this movie makes a lot of jokes, some of which are okay and some of which are not, I would say. Sure. Some of the, which are very late 90s, early 2000s. Like, one of the things that said about the woman who falls and breaks her leg is th, th, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is th, is th, is th, is th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th like, like, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, like, like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, like, like, th, th, like, th, th, like, like, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like of the, which are very late 90s, early 2000s. Like, one of the things that said about the woman who falls and breaks her leg is that she'll only be competing in the special Olympics? Yeah. Which is like special Olympics jokes. Were they ever okay? Like funny? Good? I guess so. I mean, they dropped the R-bomb later on in the movie. They do. From an adult, too. And the word, the F-word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word word, like the wo word, like the wo-a-a-a-a-a-a-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-foul-foul-foul-foul-foul-f, the movie. They do. From an adult too. And the word, the F word and the D word are both used exquisitely in this film. Just every time someone gets to say them, they
Starting point is 00:11:33 like, seem to relish it on their tongues. Like a nice little. Let me get the mouth feel on that one. It's just a nice little bit of caviar. I do appreciate the homophobia is like kind of neutered by an interaction late in the movie. It's so sweet. Yeah I thought that was actually really well done. Especially for a movie of this era, you're right that like to use homosexuality is something other than a punchline is nice. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, when, how close is this to can't hardly wait? Two years later. Yeah, so where that, like the big, funny gag is the dropping the F-bomb in the middle of that, so. Yeah, and like setting up nudy photos. Yeah, the whole conceit of the, we're going to trap him by making people think he's gay.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Yeah, well he does lose him his job at the car wash. So, they have to replace the woman who broke her leg, and they do a try-out montage, which I loved. I'm right there with it. It was amazing. Who was your favorite auditionee? I really like the girl who just cried. Yeah. And I like the stripper. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Was it pour some sugar on me? No. It was. Cady. It was cherry pie. That's right. That's right. I'm thinking of college again Because that song was played all of the time at frat parties gross I like the ballet guy. I feel like he was probably pretty strong and they like didn't even give him a chance. For sure. You know what I mean? He could probably his skills were transferable. I feel. I also like the guy who just came in and started doing a singing monologue. I thought he was pretty great. Did you like the guy who was doing like the sort of roboty dance, but he was clearly in his mid-40s? Is that your teacher? Yep. Well, so is the woman who bequeaths the captain attued to Kirsten Dunn't D Red. If she's a day under 35,
Starting point is 00:13:45 I'll be fucking surprised. Honestly, she had like the skin of a teenager, but everything else about her screamed and Taylor Loft, you know. I think it was the high-waisted business slacks that they put her in when you see her again. Oh, God. Such a weird look.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Did you watch that cheerleading documentary on Netflix? The like series that cheer? Yeah. The one, yeah. I saw bits and pieces of it while Missy watched it. Yeah. It was, well there's a lot of like alumni coming back to see the old cheer team and there's like, they would quiz them on like who the old cheerleaders were. They had to know previous years who was on the nationals teams and stuff like that. And I, because when she comes back to watch them, I was like, get a fucking life, big red. But I guess that's just really what happens, like people just hang on to it. Yeah, I mean, I think those are the people who are like, these are the best years of years the best best best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years the best years your life. What if high school was the best years of your life? Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Oh man. Oh my god. I told you about the time that my mom sat me down and told me to enjoy high school because it would be the best years of my life and I thought, oh no, I don't know if I can do this. Yeah. If this is the pinnacle. This is a all downhill from here. So it's going to get worse than the football team chasing me out of school for not wearing colors on Color Day. Cool. Oh my God. Oh my God. And we're all black all the time.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Yeah, well you don't have colors. When I see you wearing a color, it startles me. Speaking of cool high school kids, Ian Waks, Missy Pantone. This is so silly. I played by Eliza, is it Duskoo, do you think? Dushkoo? Dushkoo. She is very fucking cool. She is, I'm gonna say something a little mean. She's a terrible actress.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, she's gorgeous. And she looks cool. She doesn't make, in this movie you can't tell if she's being cheeky or not. She is also in Buffy. Oh, okay. And I've seen her, I think she's in dollhouse as well. And she's bad. She's just like, like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, she's, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi- she's thi's thi- she's a thi-she's a thi-she's thi-she's thi, she think she's in dollhouse as well. And she's bad. She's just like, oh you're not, you're not good at the, okay, that's okay, I mean do what you're gonna do. I'm not great at my job. You are great at your job. You're a great computer operator. But it's just like, I also love that her, when she's like making up dance moves, it's 80% rubbing her breasts. Yeah, it is. And that's, you know, we have a theory on this show that how attractive you are
Starting point is 00:16:31 will get you, it depends on how far you get. And she's made it pretty far. Can we talk about her hair when we first meet her? Her like, silly dreads? Yeah. Yeah. What's going on there? I don't know. That looks like something I would have liked to have done in high school but knew I couldn't pull off, you know? What's the things that women of this era had where it was just the two tendrils hanging down in front of their faces? I think it's yeah, two tendrils hanging down in front of their faces. Okay, I didn't know if it had a name. I don't think so. It's something I want to associate with Clea Duval maybe. Yes, absolutely. And you curl those pieces. And I feel like she was trying to do all tendrils. These two are cool, but what if I did all of them like this? So I feel like she has this to just be like very edgy, to let us know that she's very edgy,
Starting point is 00:17:28 and she has a tattoo. And they're like, sorry, no tattoos, and she licks her finger and rubs it, but it's like not a cool fake tattoo to draw something cool, you know? Yeah, it's so shit. Grim Reaper or something. Yeah. Do I ever tell you about the best Grim Reaper tattoo I ever saw? No. It was in the East Liberty McDonald's, the one on Pen Circle. Sure. I was there getting a Mick rib and a man in front of me. what, I wanted to try it. Do what you gotta do? Yeah. The man in front of me had this tattoo on his arm that was, it was like very poorly drawn.
Starting point is 00:18:15 It was basically like just a line drawing of like a real fucked-up looking grim reaper. And he was smoking adub and it said, grim reefer. As a person who was also high in McDonald's, I really liked it. It's rare that the text on a tattoo can bring it back around to being at a good tattoo. It's 100% did. The part of me that has a hard time with it is that it's not ironic, you know? It's sincere. Also Grim Reefer guy if you're listening, cool tattoo. As someone who has the words Bustin makes me feel good tattooed
Starting point is 00:19:01 on his leg? That is a, that's one where it came back around, yeah. Yeah. Oh man. Oh my friend. So Elijah Dushkoo is real good at flips and shit. She's acting so offended about being asked to do gymnastics tricks though. Like, don't roll your eyes, you came here to do gymnastics tricks. I don't believe you could do gymnastics tricks in a pair of dickies and skate shoes.. th. th- th- the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tip, tet, tet, tet, tet, to to tet, to feel, to feel, to feel, to feel, to feel, to feel, to feel, to feel, to feel, too, too, too, too, too, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, tet, tet, tet, tet, tet, tet, tet, tet, tet, tet, to to to to to to to to to tet to to to tet to to to to to to feel tet, tet, t't believe you could do gymnastics tricks in a pair of
Starting point is 00:19:26 Dickies and skate shoes. No, it doesn't seem safe or efficient. No. But she does say I'm a hardcore gymnast. She's cool. She is. But she becomes a cheerleader type so quickly. You know what I mean? She completely abandons this persona. Yeah. That sucks. Yeah. Wouldn't you? No. I mean, it's like the military, don't they just kind of like beat all of that like bad girlness out of you? I guess so. Break you down so they can build you back up in their own image. Exactly. I know a lot about the military. No I don't. Thank you for your service. We've met the two characters Courtney and Whitney. Courtney played by Claire Kramer who was also in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Okay, I liked her. I thought she was charming. She's great. She's really charismatic whenever she's on screen. Yeah. They are determined to get Whitney's sister Jamie to be a cheerleader. And she's terrible. She's like nine. So Kierston Dunst overrules them and says, it's gonna be duchkoo,
Starting point is 00:20:50 and the one girl says you're being a cheer tater? Yeah, she says, this isn't a democracy. It's a cheerocracy. You're being a cheer tater. And that made me laugh. You like them inserting cheer into words where it doesn't belong? Uh-huh. Or have like, cheer sex with him?
Starting point is 00:21:07 Ha-ha. I like that a lot. It made me laugh a lot. It's dark days, Katie. Things are getting to me that normally would. Whatever you've got to do to get by, honestly. I will also tell you that when the little brother's like hey I have to tell you something and runs up
Starting point is 00:21:28 and farts in her face it made me laugh for really long. That is very funny. This movie of course has a bratty little brother because of course it does but the kid who's playing him is like really genuinely funny. He's amazing. Yeah I don't know if that kid ever did more. I don not gonna look it up. I don't know I'm not gonna find out no No, this is a bonus episode. We're not looking at anything. Nope You're lucky I have no except for Eddie Vedder. Yeah, that was I mean my Googling fingers are tired now So missy comes to their first practice and gets real mad and storms out because she realizes that their cheers are stolen from the East Compton Clovers. You laughing at that? You think that's funny? You think it's funny to plagiarize?
Starting point is 00:22:10 I think East Compton is funny. I don't know why it was funny. I don't know why it was funny. Regionally specific. I don't know why, Missy. Regionally specific. But she and she was like, Missy was like, yeah, I've seen these cheers before. We used to play East Compton all the time. And I was like, why were you going to sports ball games, Missy? There are no cheerleaders at gymnastics. No, I'm sure of that. That I am sure of. Yeah. I would have been there with Color Guard. So Missy and Torrance go to East Compton and they see the Clovers practice. And they're good, see, as far as cheerleading goes. I love the black dude dressed up as a lepricon.
Starting point is 00:23:01 That's their mascot. I'm a huge fan of that guy. Because I just imagine it pissing off so many like fucking St. Patty's Day, Irish white dudes. That is very funny, yes, you're right. And admittedly, because we see the Taurus doing the routine, and then Missy gets pissed about. And then we see the Clovers are way and the Clovers are way better at it. Way better at it. And it also features, their squad features a member of the girl group black, remember them? Oh my god yes. B-L-A-Q-U-E black. Yes, wow. Yeah, she's the one who just wants to fight all the time. Oh, fuck. I knew I recognized her from from from from from from from from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her from her's the one who just wants to fight all the time. I knew I recognized her from somewhere, but I couldn't figure out where. Yeah, she's just shooting black. She unfortunately is dead.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Oh no. Of people in this movie who are dead, she is one of them. Oh, that's a Natina Reed. Yeah, Natina Reed. She played the oddly named Genellope. Janelope. And her like a sidekick, the other sidekick is LaFred, which I was like... Lafreed. Also Gabriel Union's name is Isis, which is fine at the time, not so fine now, you know? I mean, there used to be a 70s action TV show called Isis. Oh really? Yeah, with a female protagonist, superhero heroine named Isis. Oh, in that case it's a cool for this.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Yeah. Yeah. Noy, just in age, I guess. Yeah. We've also had, um, uh, torant's meeting cliff. Who is the new hot guy in school who loves the clash. Oh, he's so hunky. Playing Guitar Like an asshole. He's so hungry.
Starting point is 00:24:52 He doesn't do it for me, but I appreciate it. We're never going to have to compete for men. It's just so nice. So finding out that the cheers have been stolen leads to a moral dilemma. Do they keep performing them or do they come up with new ones? And most of the squad wants to just keep performing them because they're high school students. Yeah. But Torrance has a backbone and she says no, we will not. But when the rest of the cheerleading squad basically overrides her and is like, well there's only a few weeks still nationals.. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi thi thi's thi's their their their their their their their their moral a their moral their moral their moral their moral their moral their moral their moral their moral their moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a moral a their their their their their their their their their tho tho th, tho-m, tho-m, tho-m, tho-mneneneneneneneneneu-mo-mo-mo-mo-sneu-mo-mo-sneu-mo-e-e-eau-moral dilemma, their their their moral dilemma, the not. But when the rest of the cheerleading squad basically overrides her and is like, well, there's only a few weeks till nationals,
Starting point is 00:25:27 Missy's like, okay, fine, I'm in, I guess, whatever. But like, why would she be? Why wouldn't she just quit? It's that peer pressure in high school, I guess. I'm guess I'm the punch is. I was going to say, I'm approaching this as a 36-year-old woman, but then I thought, well, I'm not that much older than Gabrielle Union. I like that she then calls her cheating-ass boyfriend to get help on what to do next.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Oh, gosh, that's right. Because they can't do the routine. Oh, because they do, they're doing, they're doing, they're doing, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. th. I'm their, tho, th. th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm, th. I'm, th. I's, th. I's, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. th. th. I's, th. I's, the. the. the. the. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, thatthem. I also love the bit of the band playing for the cheerleaders and not for the football team coming out. I think that's a very funny gag. Very funny. Yeah. But I really like this thing because when they had gone to see the Clovers, Gabriel Union called them out for coming and like stealing their shit.
Starting point is 00:26:20 And the the Clovers, four of the Clovers, go to the Toro's football game and do their routine in front of them while they're doing. Right. And I loved that. I love that too. But what I don't love is what happens before that when they are, they have like the cheeroff with the other teams cheerleading squad. Yeah. And they immediately gets super classist. It was a weird, like low road for the Toros to to to tors to tors tors to tors to tors tors to tors to tors to tors to tors tors to tors tors to tors tors to tors to towos the to to the to to the to to the the to the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their. I their. I their. I their. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. their. the. the. I weird, like, low road for the Taurus to take, I felt. Well, I think, I think the Taurus are not supposed to be our heroes in this movie. They're just who we're following. Torrance is our hero. Because, right? Yeah, and I think the Clovers are also our heroes. Is Cliff our hero?
Starting point is 00:27:02 No, I mean, in a 2020 perspective, Cliff's a real doucheback. He makes a cool tape. Does he? If you got a song that some dude had written for you, would you be jumping all over your bed about it? How good is the song? It's pretty damn good. Yeah, then yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:25 Did he play all the parts and then record it? Yeah, I like it. Does he have a band? Like, how did he do that? He, it seemed like he had like a little studio set up there in his rich kid bedroom. Oh, rich kid punk-hmm. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:46 I'll drive in like, Hondas with spoilers on them. This was a, I was thinking about of what we were watching this, and this was like, that second wave of punk just like taking over everything for a beef period of time. Totally. That's, yeah, it was definitely that second wave of punk just like taking over everything for a beef period of time. Totally. That's, yeah, it was definitely that. One more thing I want to say about the football game is that when they're all leaving after the tour, after the Taurus have been shown up by the Clovers, is that you hear over the PA, the announcer saying, remember, our next defeat is scheduled for next Friday night at 8 p.m. Which I truly, from the bottom of my heart, loved.
Starting point is 00:28:26 I also loved when Torrance was like, hey, does anybody want to change the routine now? And the entire stands raised their hands. Yeah, that was funny. I like that. Tell me about Sparky. Oh, what is his last name? Plastry. Pulashtry.
Starting point is 00:28:45 Pallastry. Pallastry. So he is a referral from Aaron the boyfriend at college as a choreographer and he comes in and basically just like takes a bunch of speed and screams and cheerleaders, which is like funny and also horrible. What do you think about the fact that their children? Yeah, he's making a really big deal out of how big Darcy's butt is. And like this is a period of time where it is not cool or good-looking to have a big butt,
Starting point is 00:29:15 which I was surprised to remember, you know? Because big butts are just so ubiquitous now. Yeah, yeah, I was, like, yeah, that was very weird and such a bummer. And Darcy looked great. Oh yeah, phenomenal. Yeah. Like the, and the idea of like an adult man yelling at a high school girl to lose weight is just so disturbing to me. Yeah. Or when he walks up to Missy... I'm glad that never happens anymore.
Starting point is 00:29:49 Or when he walks up to Missy and says, smile. And then she smiles and he says, don't smile or stop smiling. And it's like, first of all, don't smile when a man tells you to. And second, like, don't stop smiling when a man tells you to. Ugh, but he's also great. He's also... I liked how freely Elijah Dushka was just throwing the middle finger around at everybody and everything. She's edgy, don't you know? they're their. So they learn this routine that's based solely around...
Starting point is 00:30:23 What are not calling it jazz hands, though. What are they calling it? Spirit fingers, how dare you? Spirit fingers. Sorry. In my day, they were called jazz hands. It's a very bad routine, we're to understand. Yeah, it's a routine that a middle-aged dude who's not in shape would put together.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Yeah. But you think with all the speed he's taking that he would have more high-flying? Well, I feel like that's the thing when people take a lot of speed and they're like, oh, I'm going to make a better wheel. And they never do. They always just take all the s the sp their their't figure out how to put it back together. That kind of makes sense, yeah. So I think he's just taking a lot of speed and be like, oh go, oh my god, I'm done, I gotta go. So they take this routine to do it at the state
Starting point is 00:31:18 regionals which are sponsored by TJ Max Sport Jan Sport, and Hang 10 Clothing, which is incredibly the year 2000. Wow, I didn't notice the sponsors. That's amazing. Yeah, I was just looking at the banners in the background. They rightly do not get any applause for doing this shit-ass routine. Because someone else has just done the routine before them. I like the scene where Torrance is being interviewed about, you know, being back at regionals again this year and then like she hears their music kick on in somebody else's routine and just like the change in her face is very good. She's such a goddamn gem. She is such a fucking, like I was reading reviews and they were saying like in this movie that should not be able to
Starting point is 00:32:03 this she shows like a full range of acting. And she really does. Yeah. She really nails it. And she's just a kid. Yeah, she's like 18 in this movie, you know? 13 when she did interview with a vampire. So like, yeah, and she was great in that, like,
Starting point is 00:32:19 she's a killer. Yeah, yeah. So she gets confronted by a cheer association official after the after the event. And I kept thinking like, shouldn't he be talking to maybe like a faculty sponsor or something instead of a teenage girl? Like, what is happening here? I don't know. I thought there was always someone who was an adult leading these cheerleaders. Yeah. You'd think they'd have to have a coach or at least a teacher that has to like stay after school and monitor them, you know? Nope, nope, not here. No, Torrance is in charge of literally everything. I think if there was an adult involved, stretching wouldn't be one person laying on top of the other person.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Mmm, in a very enthrusting. interesting. They fail at this. They fail forward because they won last year so they get to go to nationals anyway. That's very like, bup-up-up-up-up. Because it's like, well how else are we going to get them there? And then there's the whole like montage of them learning this new routine? Right. That is really fun. But wait, we got to talk about the romance because... Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Yeah. She's already almost kissed Cliff on the swing, which is a little bit child-like for me. And they've had that cute that cute that cute that cute thu thu thu the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the cute the the the the thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, liked, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to to thi, to thi, to thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.a. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to've had that cute tooth brushing scene, which I actually really liked. So I have to mention real quick that Missy said that's the most romantic scene in film. Oh, in this film or in film period? In film period. Oh, Missy? It is really sweet. There's some really sweet stuff in this movie. That is definitely one of them.
Starting point is 00:34:03 It is very sweet. And they are both like real charismatic, they're both really easy to watch, so I think it's like, you know, it's really nice. Yeah. So her boyfriend drops her off at her house and kisses her, but Cliff is waiting on the porch with a bunch of flowers and the tape he made. And oh it's so sad, It's just heartbreaking. My heart's broken. I forgot that the kiss, almost kiss came before the tape. I thought it came after. Yes. No, I think it was before. I think you're right. I think I need to cut him a little bit more slack than I was. Oh, yeah, he had every right to believe she was into him. Yeah, I thought he was taking a little bit too much ownership of a relationship without like, yeah, but no, there had been the Almost Kiss and there was the tooth brushing scene,
Starting point is 00:34:52 most romantic scene in film history. Oh my god. Take that in front of a ship on Titanic. Oh, what a terrible movie. We should have done that, except I have no fucking ability to watch it. Please don't make me watch that movie again. I don't have the time. I just do not have the time.
Starting point is 00:35:12 If we could talk about it completely from memory, I will do it. Oh my god, should we? I think that has to be like our last bonus episode of all of this. Let's record that and just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just that and then just keep it in the hopper somewhere. Talking about, okay here's what we're gonna do we're gonna Google image search Titanic movie and then we're gonna talk about it from memory and by looking at the images what do you think? Right we can't read a Wikipedia plot summary we can't go to IMDB. No we can only go to IMDB to see who played somebody or if they were in something else. Is that fair?
Starting point is 00:35:45 I think we should have to try and guess if we recognize them. Okay, okay, okay, okay. All right, I actually love this idea. I think that's going to be really fun. We'll do that if we get desperate. Okay. Or guys let us know if you sure that's... It'll be fun for us. Yeah, I think if it's fun for us, it's going to be fun for them. It's fucking better be, is what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:36:10 It's what I'm saying. It's what I'm saying. My notes start to get real spotty here, because I just was enjoying the movie and watching it. Yeah, them learning the cheers and learning the different dances and doing like swing dancing and then like, I don't know, what is that dancing where they're punching things? Well, there's the interpretive dancing? Yeah. Yeah, I think that's the one where they're.
Starting point is 00:36:30 Where they're doing like the, from the musical where she like turns to the side and does like a poop, poop, boop, boop. I forget what the full lineup of what that was. Yeah, it's cool. I love this, like I love a training montage. I love a learning something montage. I think it's great. Yeah, and I love that spin on like, it's not rocky punching meat in the woods. It's like women learning dance steps.
Starting point is 00:36:57 I really enjoyed that, yeah. Throughout this, we also see that Aaron has been cheating on her with a woman wearing incredibly high-waisted panties, which I just don't think anyone was wearing because it was the low-rise jeans era, but fine. And like we literally don't care. I feel nothing for him. No, other than the fact that he looks like a friend of mine, that was... Oh, name names. It's this guy Jeff, that I haven't seen it a long time. Jeff. Just reminded me of him. Jeff, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi thi thi th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thin, thi. theeeaaauuuui theeauui theaui thea. thea. thea. that I haven't seen in a long time. Jeff. Jeff, just reminded me of him. Jeff, you look like Aaron from this movie. You're way nicer.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Yeah, I hope so. Jeff. Jeff? And I'm sure you could pull off a boatneck sweater better than he did. That boat neck sweater was really unflataring for him. It really was. It really was. It was like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, you th. thi, you th, you th, you th, you th, you th, you th, you th, you th, you th, you th. You, you th. You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. You thi. He's no Chris Sarandon. No, who is? Chris Sarandon though, you think he's hunky. I do. Okay, so we share that. We're going to have to fight over him.
Starting point is 00:37:52 No, I mean, we could share him. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. I like the idea of being your sister wife with Chris Sarandon. Can we quick, not to keep jumping back and forth, but can we quick talk about Kirsten Dunce's reaction to the punk song that this guy has written for her. Oh God, she loves it. But I love, like, we're watching it, and Missy just goes, I think she's a punk now.
Starting point is 00:38:27 Yeah, she loves it. She starts jumping on her bed, kicking her feet. And then incorporates pom-poms into her punk rock dance. Yes, she does. It's a great jam. And rubs those on her boobs. Yeah. Can we agree that it's a great jam? Yeah, it is. It is. I love that it shows up later in their routine. I thought that was very cute. Does it? Yeah, she cuts it into their routine with like a remix beat behind it.
Starting point is 00:38:55 Oh, man. Yeah. So meanwhile, the Clovers have qualified for nationals, but they can't afford to get there. So they are planning on writing to what appears to be like a low-rent Oprah, I think? Mm-hmm. Yeah, Pauletta. And Torrance goes to her dad to get his company to sponsor them. And that's when I realized that her dad is like the strangest-looking person in film. Something was so weird about him. I couldn't put my finger on it, but
Starting point is 00:39:26 he was so weird looking. He looks like if you tried to draw the mayor from Jaws by memory. And then made it into a real person. Yeah, well you have the power to animate your drawings, of course. I love that. I kept thinking about how she was going to have to tell her dad that they weren't have the power to animate your drawings, of course. I love that. I kept thinking about how she was going to have to tell her dad that they weren't taking the check. You know what I mean? Like, she like hounded her dad to get this money. He gets his company to write a check. So now she's got to tell him and then he's got to tell like like like like like like the marketing like the marketing, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the marketing, the marketing, the marketing, the marketing, the marketing, the marketing, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their.... their. their. their. their. their. their. to to to to to to to to to to to-a. to-a. to-a. to-I. to-I. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. thell accounting to put that back in the coffers. I figured she'd just never tell him.
Starting point is 00:40:05 And they wouldn't know why it never got cashed. Is that five grand? But I did appreciate that they didn't take the check and she didn't become the white savior of this East Compton cheerleading squad. Yeah, and I like that ISIS calls are out for it too, and that I feel like Torrance, when she hears that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's is is is is is is that, that's, that's, that's, th and th and thii, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is thi, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that's, is that's, is that's, is that's, is that's, is is that's is that's is that's is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. that, that, that that thi. that that thi. that's I get it. You have to do it yourself. Yeah, and then they have to stare at each other for a little while. Yeah. But there's a mutual respect there, eventually. Oh, oh, is there? And do I love it?
Starting point is 00:40:33 I love it. A lot of strong female leads in this movie for a movie that's also like very sex. Yes. Where they were like they're their their their their their their their their they're they're they're they're their their they're they're their their they're their their their their their their thi. the. the. theathea. their thi. they have they have they have they have they have they have they have they have they have they they they they they they they they they they their their their their their their their their their their they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their their their to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to, let's do this. She has some very perky breasts, where you can't even tell she's not wearing a bra. It seems unfair. I thought the same thing. It seems just unfair. It's unfair. To the rest of us. But then again, she's 18. Yeah, I was gonna say. But I really enjoyed her relationship her relationship with Elijah Dushk.. Cishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishishish. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but I really enjoyed her relationship with Elijah Dushku. Yes. I thought her and Missy had a really like seemingly honest for this kind of silly movie relationship. Yeah, definitely. Like they had a very tell it like it is relationship, which teenage girls basically never have. Right, right, right, right, yeah. But there was still like the like caddy infighting,
Starting point is 00:41:26 because we didn't mention that after she failed at Regionals, Aaron told two other women that they could be co-captain. And she was just like, yeah, no, that's not gonna happen. And I really like, I loved her in that scene. Yeah. Where she was like, no one can step down, thi th and th and th and th and thi than thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, the, tho, the, thi, the, the, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. that, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thea, thea, thea, thea, thea. thea, thea. thea. thea. Yeah. Did you like that Jesse Bradford believed in her, but her boyfriend didn't? And that's kind of like how she picks them. I did too.
Starting point is 00:41:51 He does, he believes in her. He thinks she can do it. Yeah, that's really sweet. Oh, so romantic. Brush those teeth. So they get to nationals. Yep. And it's basically them and the Clovers competing because everybody else fails during their routine. Yeah, like some of those one team is wearing cheering wearing sweaters in Daytona in what appears to be like the end of the school year. Yeah. I love that there was no travel montage. They were just in Dayton. Yeah, I don't need a travel montage. But they are all staying in one hotel room together. And I was like, again, no adults. This is a school event, you know?
Starting point is 00:42:28 They are totally independent people. Yeah, and none of them are fucking each other. That's unreasonable. Although there is something happening where the straight male cheerleader keeps letting his finger slip. I think that's called sexual assaulting. But it doesn't, I'm not, I think that is too. But it seems like a thing they're doing, like she seems kind of into it. Oh yeah. Yeah. So I don't know. It was a very like, hmm, I guess that would fly in 2000.
Starting point is 00:42:59 I don't think you could do that now. Not a great joke. I a great joke. I really do love all these cheerleading scenes though. Like even the ones where people are like failing at their lifts or whatever, I like really enjoyed that choreography. I really did. It's talent man. Yeah, I think that cheerleading has become this, and I guess it was twenty years ago at this point too, just this this this this this this this this this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane, just this insane, just this insane this insane, just this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane this insane, just this insane this insane this insane this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this is just this is just this is just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane, just this insane this insane this insane sport, just this insane sport that like, it, the level of athleticism that is involved in what they are doing is it like,
Starting point is 00:43:29 I'm always amazed when someone could just start flipping from a standstill. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That show cheer was shocking to me, like how hard those kids were working for cheerleading at like a small junior college in Texas. Like, right, it was their entire lives. Their entire lives. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I can, and that's why I think people get like hung up on that and that's why they keep going back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:55 Don't you wish you had something you cared about that much to like actually devote a lot of energy to it? Yeah, sometimes. And other times I'm like I'm glad of like a lot their their their thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, their their thi, like, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, their lives, their their their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thi thi thi ti ti ti ti ti ti ti thir entire life, thir entire life, thir thir thir thir thir th it. Yeah, sometimes and other times I'm like I'm glad I like a lot of different stuff. Yeah, I mean it's probably a healthier way to be. Yeah. I wish I had just had something I felt passionate about. I guess this, this I feel passionate about. I also do, I'm starting to feel passionate about doing Titanic from memory, so. Yeah, I mean, I feel like having played in bands and like being overly passionate about that stuff for years. Yeah. Oh, we gotta do the show.
Starting point is 00:44:30 We don't have to do this show. No, we gotta do this show. No, we got to do this show. But when you're gonna get your big break, you know? But like did you ever really want to make a living doing? Because you were doing? really, you know? No, no, no, I was making a living being in a band for me was actually antithetical to what I was doing. Right. Like if I wasn't starving at it, I was doing it wrong, which is a dumb way to approach it, but that's how I thought about it. Business man.
Starting point is 00:44:56 I'm a punk. Just like Cliff. You have to stop coming down on Cliff here. He's doing his best. I'm just jealous of Cliff. Yeah, he should be. Just kidding. So yeah, although like the athleticism and the cheers is great, the Clover's routine is amazing. It is. Then we learned that the prize for this is 20 grand.
Starting point is 00:45:19 And I was like, that's actually not a huge amount of money for a national competition, I don't feel. No. And who gets the money? The deuce, ESPN2. But who gets the prize money, like the cheer, the program? Like, they don't have coaches, like, who is managing it, you know? I figured they were just divvying it up amongst the 30 people in the squad. That's what it seems like. That's why it's such such such such such such such such such such a bit of it. Oh I see, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:57 I like the music to the Clover's dance routine because it's like too live crewish. It is, it absolutely is, and so on time for that. Yeah, like if it had just suddenly gotten real filthy. You would not have been shocked. No. Their routine is so, so, so, so, so, so good. Yeah. Also, the thing I like about Gabrielle Union is you can just tell she's counting her steps. Like, her face is like, one and two, and three, and four. Well, I was reading that the leads in this movie all had to do cheer camp. Oh, I'm sure. They did like a four-week cheer camp. Yeah, that doesn't. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. like a four-week cheer camp. Yeah. That doesn't even seem like enough time to be able to do the things that they did, you know, even when it's just them. Like in four weeks I feel like I couldn't learn that much. I couldn't learn to fake enthusiasm like that. Oh, Alan, that can't be taught. You have to believe that in your heart. Yeah, I don't know. That's it it it it it's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the the the the the the th. the thi. their th. thi. thi. that's just. that's that's always turned me off to cheerleading. It's like, no one's that happy about anything. What are you doing? I don't know, man, sports. Yeah, I know, yeah. So the routine also that the Toros do, the one that they made up on their own is also very good.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Yeah, it's really entertaining to watch. It's very frenetic. Yeah, they incorporate all their different dances. Yeah, I liked it. But who won the competition? The East Compton Clovers. Yeah, which I appreciate. You like that? I did. I like the Toro's reaction to it too. I was surprised that the movie would write that, you know. Yeah, that Courtney was the one who was like, hell yeah, second place. Yeah, that was really nice. It was like, they all learned the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the movie. But the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie. I the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie the movie the movie. the movie the movie the movie. the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie th th. th. thoooooooooooooo. th. th. th. th. the. the movie movie the movie movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie that Courtney was the one who was like, hell yeah, second place. Yeah, that was really nice. It was like, they all learn something. I feel like we so rarely come across a movie where they all learn something. I guess because in most movies we do everyone, except one person ends up to ed. So they don't get a chance to learn anything. Hmm. Yeah, and like the fact that like this movie that is ostensibly just like a kind of high school sports movie could just like have like commentary on class and race and like like little like homophobia things in there and like. Yeah, it's weird. It's like the class thing is weird because we are, we see the way it should be, where it shouldn't
Starting point is 00:48:06 be like a white savior. You know what I mean? Like that is treated very well, but then also they do the cheer of you're going to pump our gas someday, which is just so gross. I think that is them learning on their journey. Like, because that happened before she brought the check to them and learned, oh, the, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, they, they, they, their, their, their, they, thi, thi, their, they, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. And, th, th, th, th, th, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, thi, the, thi, they, they, thi, they, thi, they, thi, thi, tho, thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, see. Like, because that happened before she brought the check to them and learned, oh, maybe I shouldn't be shitty to poor people. I hope you're right, but I also don't think that a high school audience is going to pick up on that. Yeah, I guess there's not a lot of 46-year-olds in high school that have lived away.
Starting point is 00:48:38 And it's just, like, this movie is all strong female le strong female supporting characters. And then like there's just so much sexism in it like even the ESPN announcer when they're doing the like opening to the nationals he's doing his television voiceover he's like anything that mixes sports and short skirts is okay with me and it's like yeah. Do you join ESPN, the deuce. The deuce. But was that a commentary on like the sort of inherent sexism in that world? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:49:15 I mean, even if it, maybe it is, maybe it is, but like, again, a high school audience is not going to pick up on that. Sure. And there's a line between, like, this is a funny joke, because it's not how it's, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like And there's a line between like, this is a funny joke because it's not how it's supposed, like not something you're supposed to say, and this is a funny joke because it's a funny joke. You know what I mean? Sure. And yeah, and I think like adding weight to your argument would be the fact that that guy is talking about sexually assaulting that someone and like everyone in the car goes, oh, you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. W who who who who who who who who who who who who who who who who?. Yeah. Yeah. And, who?. And, who? W. Yeah. And, who? W. And, who? Yeah, who? And, who? Yeah, yeah. And, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and th. And, yeah, yeah, yeah, th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. Yeah, th. And th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. th. thi. th. thi. th. thi. th. thi. th. th. goes, oh you! Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Whoops a doozy. Do you like how the end of the movie, the credits is a bluper real interspersed with funny cheering? Um, Katie, can I read you my last note?
Starting point is 00:49:57 Please. I fucking love out takes. It's nice to see a professional blow their lines. Especially how potty mouth Kirsten sticks. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. th, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thoosome, the the their, their, their, their, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thoos, thoos, th, th, th, th, th, thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi-s, thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooososy thoos see a professional blow their lines. Especially how potty mouth, Kirsten Dunstan stings. Yes, I love her. God, what a fucking gem. She's just like, shit, fuck, shit. Yeah, it's interspersed with them all lip-syncing Mickey. Oh, Mickey, you're so fun, you're so fun, you're so fun in my money. Mickey. Yeah, so that is, that's bringing on.
Starting point is 00:50:33 Can I tell you one teeny, tiny detail that I love about this movie? In the scene where Kirsten Dunce is about to listen to the tape that Jesse Bradford made for her, she like, leans over to her boombox stereo and opens the cassette deck and you can see that she has like magazine cutouts tape to her wall which is like so of the era and one of them is just the word hair. Hair! Missy and I laughed at that a long time. I really liked that. It's such a good detail.
Starting point is 00:51:07 I just celebrate hair. She cut, she's not and she was like, that speaks to me. Oh, I have hair. Do you, I, hair is what unites us. Do you want to rate this movie? Yeah, but I want you to go first, please. Even though I know I've been making you do that all the time lately, it's because I'm indecisive. So I saw this movie, I think, in the theaters. Whoa, really?
Starting point is 00:51:36 Yeah. And it was super fun when I saw it in the year 2000. And 20 years later, I have watching it again and it is super fucking fun. This movie is a 9.5. Nice. I agree. It's an incredibly fun movie. Like way more fun than it should be and with way more message, way more of a message than you would expect. Sure. I just got really bummed when you said it was 20 years ago because I this is like me going into college. Like just how deeply irrelevant I am now. Oh you're not irrelevant at all you're a taste maker.
Starting point is 00:52:19 Oh no I absolutely not. You're an influencer? No clearly no, no. But yeah, this movie's so fun. And it's just like in the right now when like everything's so sad, it was nice to just be whisked away to a land of like goofy cheerleading for an hour and a half. Yeah. Yeah. And it doesn't take itself too seriously, even though it does have an important message. So yeah, I'm gonna to to to to th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, thi, thi, tho, thi, thi, right, thi, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right right, right right right right right, right right, right right, right, right right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right thi, right thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that's thi, that's thi. thi. that's thi. thi. that's that's that's thi. thi. thi. I'm gonna see your nine and a half and lower you a nine.
Starting point is 00:52:50 Oh, just because some of those jokes like saying dykadellic is fucking gross to me. Oh, yeah, and you speak fluent effort. Yeah, so that's a movie.
