Doing a lot of X-games, uh, 1973 kind of things. What do you think the turtleneck budget for this movie was? Ah. Just on Tom alone. I mean, he's wearing different ones because some of them have shoulder pads and some don't, right? Well, those are his riding turtlenecks. Jim, tell us, tell us what you've done and why. So first of all, when you asked me to be on the episode, I, uh, all of my favorite movies, you've already pretty much done. I did, at one point, consider doing Hellraiser 7, just as an excuse to talk about Hellraiser,

and defend it as a franchise, but I opted out. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Stop. Hard stop. You have 30 seconds to defend Hellraiser as a franchise. Go. Mostly the first one. So one, two, and four, I think are really great. Or actually good movies, and seven's not bad. I think one Hellraiser, I think is sort of an important film for a couple of reasons, which I could talk about at some point if you like.

No, I'm interested. I mean, I don't have that like to hear your defensive hellraiser honestly. So I think I think Hellraiser is actually the well the first one I think is it's important. Well so at one point I had this idea that I was going to pitch to you guys to see if I could have you know a long time to lay out my thesis but the quick part is I think one I think it's one. So I think it's sort of important in that I think you know one of the major themes of that movie is transgression and boundary transgression right? You had like heaven and hell you have pleasure in pain so there's like this this this trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans trans the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their. of of of. their their. their. of of. I think the imagery, I think it was really interesting. I mean, he did go around to like the squares, which I think also leads pretty well into what we're doing this week. I know there was like infidelity,

there was like blood, so like, you know, this is the time when HIV and AIDS was like, the epidemic was like at its height. It opens with them, driving through Stonehenge. Slowmo. It's not Stonehenge. Fong, it's the seven sisters as we learn later. Or seven witches, seven witches. Forgive me. And they see a guy driving down the street in the dark. And then he passes them and they're like, we need to teach him a lesson. Like, for what? What is the moral?

I don't understand what their problem is. This had to have been written by like 75 year old dudes. You're just like, well, God damn kids always doing everything. I bet if they died, they'd come back and be shitty kids. I think this had to have been like the first movie a person ever wrote, right? And I don't mean that unkindly. I just mean, this had to be their today, right? You know, I don't know. I think that that that that that that that the writer, Ithings. Maybe it was later, but I think it was sort of all in the same kind of vein though. There's not a lot of info that I was able to find because I really wanted to know who designed

their helmets. Oh yeah. Becauseian artist and an all-around great person. She made a really rat Halloween, I think it was Halloween costume one year, of the Death Wheelers and made the helmet and it was awesome. It looked awesome. Yeah, she looked amazing. Here's how wrong I am? This is the last movie. This guy ever wrote.

Yeah, so he had done a selected filmography, so I don't know for short, but it's the last one listed. It's also the last movie that George Sanders, the guy who played Shadwell, was ever in. Yeah. He passed away not long after it was done. He's in Rebecca and all about Eve and like all these like super classic movies and a couple Hitchcock films and did you read his suicide that he left? What? No. So yeah, I mean, he killed himself like not long after this movie came out. And I'll read it to you.

Yeah. I also like that they dug that hole and put him in it sitting on the motorcycle and like his head and shoulders were above the hole. Like, come on, guys, get back in there and dig. Those Union people were like, yeah, I'm done. Six feet is the standard. The fucking song, that fucking hippie folk song that's playing for two hours while they're digging that grave. Awesome. And the world never knew his name, but the chosen funeral of his fame, come join his company, come join his company, riding free. He really got it on. He rode that sweet machine just like the

Riding free is what I refer to it as. And it's being played by Chopped Meat, right? That's the guy he plays. Yeah, Catmeat was the musician of the gang. The acoustic musician of the motorcycle gang. It's the 70s, I guess. It's such a bummer because the opening credit song has that great like slow, like, psych rock jam going. And I'm saying, oh, I can listen to this shit just got released like recently. We released recently.

It's all a guy who was in like funk band. He was in like hot chocolate. Oh really? Oh, really? Oh, God. I can't remember what else now, but like just bands you know. It's all a guy who was in like, but like just bands you know and it shows because it all sounds like you're watching shaft. Yeah, yeah, but like slow-mo weeded out shaft. All right, I'm going to quickly just go through the names of the gang members.

So you've got the alpha and his partner, Tom and Abby. And then there is Jane, who is the pink jacketed lady. The other girl. Who's ready to die at th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th then there is Jane who is the pink jacket lady. The other girl. Who's ready to die at the drop of a hat. Yeah. But she assumes leadership and they think that Tom dies. I liked that, yeah. It seemingly because she was the one who was most willing to be shitty. And so we've got Tom, Abby and Jane. All right. And then Hatchet chopped meat, Gash, and Hinky are the other ones. And I was like, why didn't those fucking first three get cool nicknames like Hinky? Maybe that's his question. Wait, you forgot about the last guy.

Who's that? Bertram? Bertram? Isn't Bertram the one that doesn't come back? Hinky doesn't come back. Oh, Hinky doesn't come back. Because he didn't believe. He hesitated at the last minute. All right, so we should get into the occult aspects of this. Please somebody explain it to me.

There are no rules to this at all. So Tom's mom, who is Mrs. Latham and her butler Shadwell are real into the occult and she's real into doing seances. And she was in a, she's an actress that did a bunch of stuff and she was in one movie called No Sex Please, I'm British. And I was like, what? That's an amazing name for a movie! So she's real into the occult and giving seances. She's a real Lorraine Warren in this case. But she's like, she's sort of the other side of the coin though, because she's like the dark side of Lorraine Warren, right? Because there's a room in their house that just the occult room, I guess.

With the mirror and the door goes away. And you see frogs? What is with the frogs? Jim, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi's, thi's, thi's, thi's, thia' is is is, thia' is is, but is, but is, but is, yeah, but is, yeah, yeah, but is is is, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, thi's is is, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, th is, th is, th is, th is, th is th is th, th, th, th, th, thia, thi's is thi's thi's the the tha, th away and you see frogs in the mirror? What is with the frogs? Jim, tell me what's with the frogs? I don't know. I do like though that in the beginning in the first scene when they're in the when Tom and Abby are in the cemetery making out and then he tries to convince her to kill herself. Or they should both kill themselves, I should say.

I think because he thinks he can come back, but also just seemed like they were kind of bored. He just picks up this big frog and puts it in his coat. His leather, his cool letter biker jacket, and then brings it home, presumably hours later, and then takes it out of it into it out like it was a newspaper, like he was just saving it for later. And then presumed to eat this rad looking sandwich that when I was watching and I was like, oh man, I wish I had a sandwich like that. It was like half a baget. It looks so good. It was like the Dagwood sandwich of punctuation. Like he was just like, oh no, no, period, and he bite into the sandwich. But there must be something about the frogs because Shadwell says anyone who brings home a Maximus Leopartis is either a fool or ignorant. I think he's, or I guess that's the same thing. Didn't he claim the frog was like hundreds of years old or something? Did he say that? Come on? I left up Maximus Leopartis to see if that was a real thing. It's not. Leopardus is the genus name of Leopards. Hence the name of Leopards. So it's a giant leopard, basically.

So in the mirror room that Tom goes into, that just has one mirror. Maybe it's the mirror and sees a flashback of his babyhood and his mom is at the seven witches and seemingly offering him up to Satan because some dude shows up in like a long black cape and they sign a, was this not in the YouTube version that you saw? I can miss this entirely because later she was like... It was sort of quick, yeah. She was like I made this bargain and I'm version that you saw? I can miss this entirely because later she was like It was sort of quick. Yeah She was like I made this bargain and I'm taking it back with like 10 minutes left now. I was like what bargain? Oh, so she makes a bargain with the devil this the Fowl's the impact the Jim alluded to earlier that makes more sense and when. You see the devil is holding the hand,

holding the paper down with his hand, and he has on a ring with a frog on it. Oh yeah, no, I do remember that, no, yeah. And so when Tom comes to, after he's no longer in the room, Shadwell is mopping his brow, and his hand has the ring with the frog on it. Don't know what? He also gives him the frog pendant

before he goes in the room. And then if you remember during the funeral scene, shows up and throws the frog pendant into the grave, the open group. Yeah, yeah. Is it, was it the key that was between his mother's bosom? Or was it the frog gone into that room before but didn't make it out. And then he just his glasses.

But he found his nerd glasses. His father worked in NASA in the 50s. He puts on the nerd glasses, gets real sweaty. And then like sees like, you know, that image you said has a psychedelic freak out to some song that sounds like a sea list song off Pink Floyd's in McGuma and then comes to. and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and to and the the to and song that sounds like a sea list song off of Pink Floyd's and McGuama and then comes to and then when he comes to he has the answer that all you have to do to come back is just want to come back. You just believe, just believe.

I mean it is the basis of all religion, right? Yeah, I just found it odd that this movie took almost no time time for those motorcycle montages, most of which were at very slow speeds. Yeah, I was thinking about the intro, like the opening credits, and then all the bicycle riding around, and then when the, like the suicide montage, which I guess we'll get to at some point, but when that guy jumps out of the plane, you watch him fall. I mean, this movie, it could have been like 35 minutes long. Biker movies were a huge thing at this point in time. There were all these exploitation biker films, so I guess they were trying to cash in on that and horror movies, like were wolf on, wherewofs on wheels or whatever would do too. Like there were some crossover things, but this one's fucking ridiculous. I have tried to watch this, or I watched this movie twice.

Once I turned it on, immediately immediately, I they wled, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was th movie twice, once all the way through, and once I turned it on, immediately fell asleep and woke up as the end credits were going. And I was like, that was a good fucking nap. Good movie. It's short though, you're in and out, hour 20 maybe? It's 90 minutes right on the nose. Yeah. And God bless them for it. So Tom comes, they bury Tom? He kills himself by like driving off a bridge. I felt like he could have survived that fall.

It was like not 15 foot bridge. It was a really low bridge. Into a river, yeah, I feel like he would have been fine. The best is the kids that find his body and the one like little girl walks over and he goes, oh, look. Yeah, it was an inexplicable death. And they tell mom that he's dead. She doesn't even ask like where.

She's just, she's just like, oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Um, so then they bury him in that hole. So then they bury him our own way. Um, so then the mom's house and is like, we want to bury him our own way. And the mom's like, cool.

And Abby's like, bye. Like, she does not ask where her son will be buried. After she says, like, you're not dressed the way I thought would be. Yeah, you're wearing a dress. She looks like a sickest air. to me. She also looks entirely like, to. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. to. to. to. to. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the the the to. to. to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the the. the the the the the the the the the th. the. thr. tas. tod. toda..... toda.. toda.. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to.. to kept thinking that she was in short circuit. And her and Tom had the exact same haircut, which I appreciated too. A lot of people had that haircut in that gang.

I think it was like part of the being jumped in was getting that haircut. Is Bertram the ginger? No, that's Hatchett's. No, that's Hatch's only line. Well yeah, well after they buried Tom and he rides again and then runs down some nerd and like and then goes out and like causes havoc they police call and they say oh is someone wearing the clothes of your friend and the bike of your friend murdered a bunch of people and so they think it was somebody messing with them. And then he stabs him but he

doesn't die because he's al immortal. You can only die once. You can only die once which turns up not to be true. Spoilers. So this is one of my favorite scenes in the movie is where Tom is explaining to them how immortality works. And Jane just goes, what are we waiting for? Let's all die. Like he was like, hey, this is how Six Flags Great Adventure works. Yeah, there's a Superman ride and... And they just really hate car people Like they're fucking with that guy in the truck for no reason and then it explodes for no reason

It was carrying windows. Why wouldn't it explode? Yeah, I feel like that was sort of an opportunity lost like they they knocked or they ran a truck full of glass like, like, they?
