Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 130- Pontypool (2008)

Episode Date: April 17, 2017

This week we're joined by our friend Josef to discuss his pick, the 2008 Canadian horror/virus/zombie film "Pontypool." Special topics for your consideration include: our typically American lack of kn...owledge about anything Canadian, Josef's relationship with comic books and superheros,  the lack of effort that anyone at Netflix is putting into their film descriptions, conspiracy theories and things the movie doesn't show you. Have you seen this one? If not, it's on Netflix (but don't read the description because it's kinda worthless). If so, what did you think? Let us know your thoughts at facebook.com/werewolfambulance, on Twitter @werebulance or on Instagram @werewolfambulance. You can also email us for our segment "MAILBAG!" at werewolfambulance@gmail.com and if you're feeling super generous, leave us an iTunes rating and review.   Into zombies? Starting point is 00:00:00 Kill means kiss. Kill means kiss. Kiss means kiss. Kiss means rock band. For sure. That was my intro. Hi, I'm Alan. That was a good one. That was great. That was a good one. That was a good one. I didn't say that because of my dumb intro. It was a dumb intro. Hello. Hi. Hi. Joseph. How are you? Good. I'm excited to be here. This is where wolf ambulance. I didn't say that because of my dumb intro. It wasn't dumb. It was fine. It was dumb. It was dumb. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It. It. It. It. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. in like in that first little It's to by the way spoilers. No, no, it did because no one has would have any idea what this movie is about from kill means kiss. I saw it and I still don't really know what it's about so I'm looking forward to discussing it for someone to explain it. Do people listen to your show not expecting spoilers like are people?
Starting point is 00:00:58 People complain about it sometimes. They're like, oh, these people spoiled it. It's episode 130. You know, I guess maybe you don't know. I guess new people, make them angry in the very first one. Yeah, I think we announced it up front in Warlock. I love it when... Spoiling Warlock. Can you spoil that movie? The movie spoiled itself. I love when people recommend us and they're like, this movie. Like we're children who can't control our films. It's true though. We are here to talk about a movie available on Netflix if you haven't seen it. Stop
Starting point is 00:01:29 now. Go watch it. Well after we tell you what the movie is that you did already read. Oh my god I'm folding in on myself. You are. It's called Pontypool. Which I thought at first was Deadpool. Which I tho' thii. And I was like, this is a fucking comic book movie from the comic book guy. And then I realized I was wrong. Wait, you thought I was a comic book? Or do you have a comic book? Yeah, but I've only read one comic book.
Starting point is 00:01:49 And they forced me to do it. That's not true. Joseph is on the other podcast called, the other podcast, that I take part in called never read a comic book. Oh, you're the everyman. Yeah, exactly, yeah. Who gets comic books explained to him and then shifts all over them. Oh, I'm like, I'm sorry I haven't listened to it. That sounds amazing. I don't think I realized that was the premise.
Starting point is 00:02:11 I thought you were both comic books. And I'm like, not just me. That's a lot of comic books. I guess. And also I really love the idea of shitting over something you haven't seen. That's like right in my wheel. It's great until John gets really mad and starts turning red. But that only happens every now. Sometimes he sheds all over things that John loves.
Starting point is 00:02:39 I do that to sleep in night. I think John hangs me an effigy. How could she say that about Prince of Darkness? Oh, God, it's garbage. The movie's so good. No, it is not. I hate when guests come on and correct me. By the way, in episode 84, you were wrong. So I should say that I love horror movies and even bad horror movies I still love. So there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the their th. their th. thi their thi thi's thi thi thi thi. thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I's thi. I's thi. I'm thi. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. Yeah. I'm th. Yeah. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. Yeah. I's th. I's th. Yeah. I's th. Yeah. I'm thi. I'm thi. Yeah, I'm thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. I'm thi. I I still love. So there's like not a ton of them that I'm just like, this is terrible. The Prince of Darkness is pretty bad. It's amazing. It's so good. All right. Well, anyway, go back and listen to our Prince of Darkness episode to get the full argument
Starting point is 00:03:15 on this. I don't think it was much of an argument. What? Okay. All right, so Pontypool. Can I read? Not Deadpool. Not Dead Pool. May you read from the Netflix description of this movie? Which in typical Netflix fashion does not do anything to describe the movie? Sure. Valentine's Day is off to a bizarre start for Radio Shack Jock when he runs into a
Starting point is 00:03:41 crazed woman on his way to work. And that's only the beginning. That is literally the beginning the beginning the beginning the beginning the beginning. That is literally the beginning of the movie, I guess. I'm assuming whoever had to write that was like, a click, next. Yeah. That's weird. Well, weirdly, I don't think it's
Starting point is 00:03:54 it's Valentine's Day to like 15 minutes in. No. So you watch enough of it. I was going to say it has I was I was to say I was to say I was to say I was to say to say to say to say to say to say to say it hold on here let me rethink it. I want to do at some point what we think other reviews of movies from what they've started what the little bit that they've seen would be on Netflix like a movie about one spaceship going inside of another spaceship, Star Wars because that's like the first five minutes of the movie like like like flip forward enough to get the gist of it. They're like, there's a guy, it's cold, Canada done. I guess, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:26 Brilliant. This movie ruins my theory that nothing bad can happen in Canada. Oh yeah. I thought it was cool. I thought Canada was fine. They have their own version of Snaquatch up there. What is it? Oh, God, what's the name. the name. the the the the the the the the their. their. the their. their. their. the their. the the their. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. thr before. Yeah, we talked about that in the ravenous episode. They have a lot of hockey players and they're pretty rough. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:04:48 They're a rough bunch. Commiesport? I thought a lot. She called it Comysport? Yeah. I'm a of old. Goddam millennial. Well, it's I think it's held up really well. And part of that is no one has seen it I feel like even though it's on Netflix. I've seen it, a couple of my friends have seen it but anytime I mention it to anyone else, they're like, what is that? Yeah, I never heard of it. It sounds like a weird name.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So I chose it because I loved it and first I was thinking about doing evil dead, but everyone's already seen that and talked about it. Then I decided, why not something talking about the competition or the contest that we ran where you count the amount of times we say Dix in an episode. It was in the 60s. Fuck. Can I fucking cuss on this shit? Well now I know. Can I give my version of what this movie is about? I the th. the movie. th. th. the movie. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to toe. th. ti. toe. toe. toe. to c. to cuss. to cuss. to cuss. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the cussed. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. C. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. to. te. to. to. to. t movie's about? I would love that. Please. I took way too many notes, so I'm doing it off the cuff, guys. Off the cuff.
Starting point is 00:06:07 That was the phrase I was looking for when I said freeballing earlier. I'm sorry. I mean, you can do both. Yeah, that was the one. So this is a movie about lingu jockey or a shock jock as they like to call it in this description for some reason. And you can tell that he was fired for kind of being an asshole and he's moving to the bumblefuck nowhere town of Pontypool, Canada.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Like Netflix said, on the way to work, and it's snowy out. And it's snowy out, it's every 14th you learn later. up to his window and bashes on it and he rolls down the window and she starts repeating everything he says and wanders off in the darkness and that's the beginning of the movie right? That's just the beginning. That's just the beginning. That's just the beginning. So and you know he's he's right to the bat he's an asshole like he's yelling at his manager he's on the phone and he's just like yelling at his manager he's on the phone. and he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's just like he's. He's. He's. He's just. He's just like. He's just like. He's just he he's just like he's just like he's just like. He's just like. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. he's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. He's just. he. he's just. he. He's just while he's driving in and just like yelling at his manager over his own voice. Like he's just so into himself. Gets to the station, you meet the other players. There's Laurel Ann, who is the assistant radio manager, I guess is what we call it?
Starting point is 00:07:16 Does that we call it? Sure. Sure. And then Sidney Breyer, who is the r manager. She's the Raws of this operation. She is the Raws. Okay, thanks. They're like very adoring of him at first. Like when he's talking, they're both just looking through the window like, oh, cramp maz.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Well, why wouldn't you look at the thanks? How do you look like Richard Petty? How thin' thi? talking a lot about Richard Petty lately because yesterday was Alan's 43rd birthday which is the Richard Petty birthday. I'm their birthday again. Oh thanks. HPD. Yeah you look like Richard Petty. That's all. I think I always think it's Lance Hendrickson but I think back to this movie. Another ropey gentleman with the leathery face. I don't know any of these people? Land's Hens. He's andlerks. I is is is is is is thens. I thens. thens. thens. thens. thens. thian thian thian thian thian thian the thian thian thian thian thian thian thian. I thi-I thi-I thi-I the-I thi-I thi-I the-I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. He's th. Hea th. Hea th. Hea th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's thi-I-I the. He's theat-I theat-I th. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. H. R. H. H. P. H. H. P. H. H. P. H. that's what the first horror movies I've ever seen. Wait, who's he an aliens? The guy. He's the Android.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Who's the alien? Ah, OK, that guy. I've never actually seen aliens. That's why I just saw it. I really wanted to hi-fi right then. Can we go back and do that movie instead? I'm sorry. So anyway, so Grant Maddie's in there. He meets him. Sydney is kind of, she's trying to keep him in line. He hops on the radio and he's just kind of being an asshole. He's a little depressed, he's like drinking and he starts kind of like ushering in the show. It's really, I think it's like 9.30 in the morning or a little bit earlier than that.
Starting point is 00:08:37 And basically they're doing like this CLS Y and that was like really horrible song it's like CLS Y anyway really annoying the beacon the beacon and like slowly to kind of move forward slowly weird stories start coming in that they can't verify but it's like drunk ice fishermen having a standoff with a cops but then nothing really happens and then then the then the Ken in the sunshine chopper. but then nothing really happens. And then the Ken and the Sunshine Chopper sees a riot happening and then he has to like leave. And things are slowly starting to ratchet up.
Starting point is 00:09:12 But you're not like scared yet, right? Yeah. I disagree, actually. I think it's already gotten very tense by that point. I actually had to turn this off. This is not a funny anecdote at all so feel free to cut this but I had to turn this off and walk away for a little bit because I started it like made me remember this is gonna sound insane but it made me remember 9-11 and like I was in I was in the 38th floor of the Cathedral of Learning listening to broadcast on
Starting point is 00:09:36 the radio and they were like a plane has gone down in Somerset it seems like it was headed to pitts I was to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to the the to to to the the to the the to to the the the the to the the the the the the I'm th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm. I'm to to th. I'm to to. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's to me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me. I'm to me. I'm to to to to to th. I'm th. It's th. It's thin. It's to. It's th. It's to. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. I'm th. It was just this like moment of like getting information from the radio and it's like everything speculation and it was really frightening and I was like I think I need to walk away from this movie for a little bit. That's not funny. That's not my normal 9-11. Knock knock. Who's there? 9 11?
Starting point is 00:09:57 . You never forget. Okay. Wow. Look, if I'm going to be sentimental about it, I also have to be cruel about it. Well, but I think that's also kind of part of the movie is that like, I mean, it's one of those movies where it takes place in one room pretty much. Yeah. And like all the scary shit happens and you just hear people. Yeah. So your mind goes crazy. point they say it's like an explosion of people or it's like oh yeah yeah right the the car is buried under a mountain of people yeah I haven't seen the car in over an hour and you're like you're like oh god and like no
Starting point is 00:10:32 one really genius yeah it's fantastic also low budget I don't think they had the budget to film any of that right but I mean that's why the original radio broadcast of the world to work so well th is because because because because because because because it it the the the the the the the the the th th the th th th th th th they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the they the the they the they thy the thy they the the thy the the the the the the they the they the they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the War of the World to work so well. It's because it was every grandma in New Jersey was like, what? And they walked outside and saw a water tower and they had just heard that these things look like water towers and they were like, what? What? You know, that's happening and it turns out Ken in the sunshine chopper. He's actually in he's actually in his Dodge dart. to the today. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. And th. And th. T. T. The. Thea, th. Thea, th. Thea, th. Thea, th. Thea, they' they' they' they' they' th. Thea, they' they' they walked, they' they' they' they' they' they' they' they' they walked they walked they walked they walked, they walked they walked, they' they walked. And they's, they's was was was was was. And th. And th. And th. And then, th. And then, th. And then, th. And then, th. And then, th. And then, th. And then, th. And then, thin, thin, thin. And then, th. And then, th. And th. And th. And then, th. And they' they' they' they' they' they' they' was, they' was, they' was, they' was, they' was. And it gets kind of real because like you like at this point in the movie and we're only like what 15-20 minutes in you start like learning how lived in this world is and how kind of real everyone is like like Sydney is in a messy divorce and so she's always like calling her kids or try to get
Starting point is 00:11:16 hold of them but their dad won't like answer the phone half the time. Loral land was in Afghanistan. Oh right. Grant himself, you know, lost his big city job, probably Toronto, I guess. Was it the closest? Or Montreal, I think. They got cities up there. Yeah. Is it both of those? I hear they're lovely.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Toronto is great. Yeah. And I think that's one of the reasons why I love this movie, like the people all feel real, right? And so it's like you're just watching people go to work and trying to figure something horrifying out. All right, yeah. Yeah, I agree with that. Yeah. So anyway, so they're listening to Ken and Sunshine Chopper and you know, he's describing these horrible things that are starting to happen. And then he, you know, he just gets cut off and they're like, uh, what's going on. Grant Mazzie starts asking people like, this happened this morning, talks about the thing the morning with the lady knocking on the window, what should I do? Should I call the police? Right, building the mythology that's going on in the story. What was it with the cat, the missing cat? I guess was
Starting point is 00:12:12 that just to prove the point that like monologue where it just talks about honey, the missing cat. Have you seen honey? And then it goes into this weird, like, her name means panty panty, and this bridge name means pool. And it's Panty Pool in Ponty Pool. And like, her name is. Yeah, they keep like, they keep like building these things up and... That's when it seemed like that, that movie about that movie. that movie. that movie. that movie. that movie. that movie. that movie. that movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie. That movie, about, that movie, about, that movie, about, about, about, about, that movie, about, about, about, about, that movie, that movie, that movie, that movie, that, that, that, the the the the the the the their, their. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their. their, their, their, their, their. their, their, their, like, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. their. their, their you're talking about. I feel like that I saw that movie and then I never heard of it again. Was it like 23? Yeah, where the number just keeps popping up over and over and over again. I think the cover, it's like him written 23 over his face or whatever the number was. Yeah. I was like, oh, that's think so. I think you would know if it was. About numbers. So at that beginning, actually I have a theory about that and I read too much about this
Starting point is 00:13:09 so I've crazy theories you guys want to hear them. I'm in. They're no good. Let's go. So at the very beginning we've got a good wrap up the and just like chaos ensues sort of from that point thrown from that joomp-ff. that point from that point. that point. that point. that point. that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. thoomp-up. thoom-up is just. thoom-up is just just just just just just just. thoom-soom-up. toe. to-soe. to-soe. to-soe. I'm just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just. too-up. tooom-up. tooom-up. to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I I th. I th. I's-I. I'm the. I'm to-I's to-I's th. I'm to-I's to-I's to-I's to-I's to-I's to-I'm to-I to-I to-I to- So yeah, Matthew's talking and he's doing this weird Pontypool thing, right? And he's just tying like a woman's name, a bridge, everything's called Pontypool. And while he's doing this, and I didn't notice it to watching it this time, but as he's saying that, like, you see his speech, what do you call that, like, the frequency thing? Yeah, the frequency of his voice. Out of the middle comes a little bubble while he's talking and I think that's the genesis of the virus that we're going to get into. Right. And the first thing that pops up is a word typo inside of Pontypool. And so yeah, I think that's trying to say that he, the day before recording that, actually started this thing, or th... th. th. th. the virus, th. th. th. the th. th. their, their, their, their, thi, their, their, their, their, their, thi, their, thi, their, thi, the, their, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, the the the the the, the the the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the, the the the, the the the, the the, the the threate. threaten, the the the the threaten, the the threaten, the threaten, the threaten, the. threaten, the. the. the. the. th get into the world. Okay. Yeah, it does seem like there's some indication that not only are they perpetuating it
Starting point is 00:14:07 by putting words into the atmosphere, but also that somehow they were responsible for it. But I couldn't figure out like exactly how, but maybe that's part of it. Right. And the it is that they figure out later on in the film that the virus that's causing people to turn into cannibalistic murderers things is a word-driven virus and it's all about the understanding of words. Yeah. I love it. I love it so much though not in French and not in whatever language the doctor was speaking, which I don't think was every, it's, on Netflix, it just said speaking unknown language. Maybe it's the same person who w wrote the description. Or just like, I don't fucking care.
Starting point is 00:14:48 So, I'm not English. I read about that. I don't remember what language it was, but someone does talk about what he says. So I think it is a real language. It must be translatable. Yeah, so we're talking about Dr. Mendez, they described him really quickly as like that doctor from a couple years ago who's giving away drugs without prescriptions that's what they talk about and his doctor his doctor's office is the first like mob scene that we hear about from Ken where like yeah Ken's watching it and people are piling into his office
Starting point is 00:15:15 until the walls explode out which is like such an insane image of just like so many bodies being in a room like I remember that terrible movie World War Z. Oh gosh, the wave of zombie bodies. Don't. Do you like action movies? Do you like Brad Pitt? He's certainly in it.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Oh. Coca-Cola plays a, or a Pepsi, one of them plays a really strong role in it? It's just product placement or is there like an animated fantasy can? So maybe they didn't do a good job. I think it's Pepsi. So at the very end of that movie, after he saves the day, he goes to a Pepsi machine, like looks at the camera and drinks one and then hits a button all the like Pepsi machine, like all the Pepsi's come out and make a lot of noise and that saves a day.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Literally Pepsi saved three group. As they're slowly learning what's happening, they're talking to Ken for a while, and I think I got the order screwed up here, but at a certain point, they're talking to Ken and he's like hides in a silo and he's kind of like watching what's happening. And so all these people are kind of ripping up, you know, ripping each other up. And he describes th trying to get inside of other people. Yeah, that's super fucked up. That's super gross. Well, there's, it gets even grosser because there's the kid who like breaks into the house and he's broken all of his limbs smashing into the house. He's just he has stumps. Yeah, oh yeah, no hands. So I guess someone has chewed them the the th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's that's that's th. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. that's. that's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's t t t t t t t toge. It's toge. It's t t toge. It's that's that's that's. And then Grant, Ken starts freaking out because he gets closer to the kid because he's saying something and when he gets close enough there's the sound of a baby's voice inside. Yeah, this is like an adult teen. Yeah. That mummy was very eerie and I did not like it.
Starting point is 00:16:58 And you're like zooming in on Grant's, I'm never noticed this time, but when that's happening, and like Grant's like looking in and he starts freaking out, he's like losing his mind, is this, is this happening? Oh, when he's staring at his hands? Yeah. See if he's real or not? There is a really, really weird part where in the background you hear a voice, today, the background, you're on the radio, ain't ya? You're on the radio, you big. Are you Grant? Grant? Fishing.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Go fishing. What? And it's when stuff's happening in the background, and he's just like, what? I was just a little baby. Like, he just starts saying from your shit. That's so weird. It's so creepy. This is the show there's a scene much later on
Starting point is 00:17:45 But while I'm thinking about it where Grant and Sidney are being attacked by a young girl And the young girl gets knocked to the ground and Grant runs over to kick her and right before he kicks her he disappears What he just like vanishes for a second and then when he pops back in Sydney is standing next to him and they're both kicking the girl. I thought he just went down under the camera. Oh he, well, like watching, he disappears from frame at some point? Yeah, well like, it just seemed like he was there, he wasn't and then both of them were there. Weird. And they kicked the kid. Yeah. And then they have an argument about which the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the he just the he just he just he just the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I the. He the. He just just just just just just just just just went. He just went. He just went. He just went. He just went. He just went. He just went. He just. He just went. He just. He just went. He just. He just went. He's thea. He's the the the the the. Or killed the kid. Or killed the kid. Yeah. And Grant's still an assuil. He's like, you killed the kid. You go kill the doctor. And she's like, no, you killed the kid. And he's like, I killed the kid.
Starting point is 00:18:27 And he's like, fine, I killed the kid. So you should kill the kid. Yeah. Oh, and that kid. We didn't that a real song? Lawrence of Arabia is a musical, isn't it? It's a movie. It's a movie. It's a movie. The guys who wrote the movie wrote the movie. Oh, I thought it was a musical I-R-L. Oh, not that I know, but I thought I thought I'd know what, I don't know anything. I don't know anything. It was so, they're like in blackface. They're in brown face, yeah. Yeah, that brown is just a real bummer. And they sing that song and it's really weird. While that's happening though, I started noticing something where like, I started noticing something where like, well. People are constantly telling people to do things and then they don't or they're not listening like three times Grants like I'm depressed I hate winter
Starting point is 00:19:26 they're like cool yeah whatever everyone does. Yeah if you're in Canada that's just like how it is that's just breathing but out. That's what made me think that at first I thought this was sort of like a plot to like fuck with him because of both of two things th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi the thus the the the the the of the. the. the' the. The the of the' tho- tho- tho- tho- tho- their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. their these Lawrence of Arabians to be like during this terrible thing to be like now you have to do this like I really thought it was not a joke on him but like like they were gas letting him he was getting his yeah and because Sydney is so calls for all of it yeah but like mean punked like mean punked like the toys. Like the thinne the toyn't punked like the th like th like th like th like the th like the th like the th like th like the the the th like the the the the th th the the th the the th the the the the the the the the th the th the thr- thr-I punk th th throng thr- like th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thin thin thin thin. thin. thi the to to to to the to to freaks out and she just starts repeating words grants the only one that notices and everyone's like hey I know whatever cool yeah you got you great thanks even when she dies they're like boy that was sad like no
Starting point is 00:20:12 thou that's that upset about that girl's to I just found that very weird oh for Laurel and yeah they keep like not giving each other Valentine's Day cards or if they did they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they did they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they th th th the the the thi the the thi the thi they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they didn't say, like the whole thing, like there's total miscommunication the whole time, which I think is why they don't get the virus. What should we talk about that now? Because they're not using their words. Well, they're not communicating. Like it's an understanding thing, I think. But I thought it wass in Canada. I thought they were just cool. Please tell me Google that? Terror. Because when he's talking to the BBC guy, he's like, does this have anything to do with the terrorist separatists? Yeah, there's the French people versus English people? There's the French
Starting point is 00:20:53 Canadians who want to be separate. They want Quebec to be separate. They want Quebec to be separate. Isn't this in Ontario? Isn't th? Isn't th? Isn't th? Isn't th? Isn't th? Isn't th? Isn't th? Isn't th? I Ontario? Isn't th? I th? Isn't th? Is th? Is th? Is th? Is th? Is th? Is th? Is tho? Is tho? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? Is their? I thought it was outside of Montreal. No, it's definitely say Ontario. Where is, I think? Oh no, I guess Quebec's in Quebec. Listen, I don't shit about Canada. But yeah, I think they were just like, the whole thing is that the BBC's trying to find something to blame this on. I see. And so they heard French and Canada and were like, oh, it's the separatists that are doing this. I see, okay. Because everybody at the radio station is like, no, you, no, that's wrong.
Starting point is 00:21:27 We don't know anything. They're completely wrong, yeah. She has noticed that one part where they, like, like, really fancy, like, new stations, there's always that wall that has the time in or three tiny towny towns in the area. That was another thing I thought was like gaslighting about it. Like I just, I really thought until the end that something was going to come up where the whole thing was a setup. Until the people really showed up until like and were like smudging up the glass. I do have a theory. I do have a theory. He'd been like fired from this job. I'm sorry, I just totally took your theory. I was like, let me explain it better than you could.
Starting point is 00:22:05 No, you're nailing it. I think, but that's why I think for that little split second, which may have even been like a fuck up on the movie when I watch it, but when he disappears and reappears as him in Sydney, beating this girl to death. There's somebody standing here with you doing it. Interesting. So in that theory, does he kill everyone on his own? Or is he alone? I mean, he may very well have just had a complete psychotic break and be still be sitting in his car. Like, I don't know what, because the,
Starting point is 00:22:33 he was hitting the hooch pretty hard. There is, there is an that happens in this that is just too coincidental and to, like, the fact that Dr. John Mendez goes to the radio station. Yeah, it like climbs in through a window from, yeah, that's just open. And tells them everything's going on. It's too coincidental. And like, the, the, the, to, to, thii, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. th. going on. It's too coincidental and like... And but it's it's the the thing that's sort of strange is like the terms of endearment like stay away from your immediate family and don't call them honey? Right. Like what is that about? It's because so later the cat. Oh fucking Christ. So that's the thing that started at all. See I don't think it is. I think it's the word pontypip the word p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p p on. the word p on. I the word p on. I the word p on. I the word pon. I the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word pon. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I thi. I the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word the word. I the word. I the word. I the word. I the word. I the word. I the word. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. the thi. th. th. from word to word, because this is jumping to the end, but at the beginning, if Grant actually started it, assuming it's all real, and it started spreading,
Starting point is 00:23:29 it spreads through words that people understand the meeting. So when someone calls someone else, sweetie, they know what that means, right? And it passes that way. And then at the very end, if you listen, like, like, while the credits, and the credits, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, and, the, the, and, and, and, and, and, the, the, the, and, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. the thr. the the thr. the thr. the thr. It's thr. It's the the the oh, the little town of Pontypool, the National Guard closes it down, everything's okay, down in Ponty Pool, Ponty Pool, Ponty Pool, and he keeps saying it and you're like, oh shit, it's out. Can we talk about what I think is one of the most depressing scenes in this movie? Not depressing, it's just, it's very, made me feel very sad watching it. So when Lawrence of Arabia is in there there there there there their their their, their, their, so their, so their, so their, so their, so their, so, so, their, so, their, and so, their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and he's their, and he's their, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he. their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, thi. their their th. the. they. they p. they p. they pon, and they pon, and they pon, and they p. they p. their, and he's in there and they're singing their song and they get to the end of the song and the one girl is just going I can't remember the end. I don't know how it ends. I don't know how it ends. I don't
Starting point is 00:24:13 know how it ends. Pra, praw, and it's just like what the fuck is happening right now? And they're just like turn her around and she's the fuck is happening right now? Like and they're and they just like turn her around and with and she's the girl that attacks them at the end and already bloody and I already bloody and I think they were just members of the cast and I think they were just members of the cast. Yeah, it's community. So at some point Laurel and or actually before that happens the there's a radio broadcast that I think comes from Dr. Mendez. I thi they th th th th th th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thin. I thin. I thin. I thin. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. the. thi. thi. the. th. th. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their. they're their. their. their. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they. their their their their their their their their theirthat happens, there's a radio broadcast that I think comes from Dr. Mendez. It's in French and they start translating and he reads it over the radio. Do you guys remember that part? Yes. And he says, and so Grantman, he's reading it as it's translated, and it says, for your safety, please avoid eye contact with close family members and restrane from the following, all terms of endearment such as honey or sweetheart. Don't talk with young children and rhetorical discourse. For greater safety, please avoid the English language. Please do not translate this message. And then they're
Starting point is 00:25:11 like, oh, and I was like, I love that, but I was also like you should have probably started with that last part, right? Yeah, and that woman typed it into the computer and send it over to so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she so she was. so she was. So she was. So she was. So she was like. So she was like. So she was like, th. So she was like, th. So she was like, th. th. th. th. So she was like, th. th. th. th. to to to th. to to to th. to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Please. Please. th. Please. to th. Please. to to to to to to to to to to to me, please. Please. Please. to me, please, please, please to me, please th. to to to the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the th. Please, please just want to say that I looked up in Lawrence or Arabia. It was never a musical and I don't know what the guy was thinking of. I really apologize. But it's not like it couldn't be. I mean, everything is. Queen is a musical at this point. So at some point, they, like, Matthew snaps after he hears that weird thing in his head and he's like looking around for the baby he loses it and he decides he's gonna leave because he tell me he's like everyone's everyone's fucking with me walks to the front door
Starting point is 00:25:49 opens it and they're kind of bickering all three of them are bickering and then Laurel Ann kind of like the the theyre and it's like there's an enemy it's like there's an enemy like calling the the they they they they they they they they's like calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling calling like calling like calling calling like calling like calling like calling like calling like calling like calling like calling yeah like calling yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah they they like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like calling like calling like calling like like calling like calling like like calling like like calling like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like likethe teuu cu-n. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the te is is tee is teeeee is te is teee is the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tension because you and I think it's because you're not seeing anything and because you're not leaving the small space of this you never see the outside like you never get to go outside you're in the radio station the whole time right this could be such a good community theater movie this felt like a stage play much like a play play not move it's the one that we did murder party I feel like yes very to the the the one one I I I th we th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th th I th th. th. th. th. th. the. the. that that that that that that that that that that that's that that's that's that that's that's that's that's that's that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that where it's all shot in this like one room just like yeah and it also makes it feel very like indie movie yeah like with a cube also shot in a single room with different colored lights you know I never seen the Q you can see Qub I have not seen Q okay okay wait we need to stop this and go watch that you get one movie one well that well that was the problem with his evil dead idea because Joseph's like what if we watch the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is th is th is th is th is th is th. th. th. th. th. the the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th is was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was was th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thi. the. the. the. the. baby, I got time to do all that? She's tax season.
Starting point is 00:27:06 No time for this. This was short, there's only like 90 minutes. Oh, no, no, this was great, but all three evil dead movies would have been a little bit too much. Well, and how would we describe them in under an hour? Yeah, that's good point. starts losing it. She starts like kind of like babbling. Sydney's talking to her and this crazy scene happens where you know Sydney's like putting on on hot water or you're try on water making it hot to make tea or something and and and Laurel and it's just kind of getting a little bit weird but they're not super concerned about her. Right she's already also starting to do that language breakdown yeah. She's like she can't find the word. to? the word. Yeah. Yeah. the word. the word. Yeah. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the word. the the. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's like. She. She's like, she. She's like. She's like, she's like, she. She's, she. She's, she. She's, you. She's, you. She's, you. She's, you. She's, you. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. You. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's. She's, t. t. t. t. t. turning. turning turning turning on turning on turning on turning on turning on turning on turning on turning on turning on. ia or something. Something yeah and so she turns off the water and you know you hear whistling and then you keep
Starting point is 00:27:48 hearing the whistle and she looks over and Laurel Ann is just standing on the wall staring with your headcock making the noise of the whistle. It took me a minute to figure out that that's what it was was her mimicking the sound of the tea. Mendez runs up and goes, okay, we have a couple seconds, so let's just walk on by her and like take Sidney and walks her by. Yeah. Because in the booth, no one can hear they're talking and soundproof, right? Which is that how soundproof those rooms are? Are they that good? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Really? Yeah. You guys never been, you've been to college radio station. Yeah, I've been to a college radio. Which is like a closet. Yeah. They're pretty soundproof. I guess they're soundproof both ways. Yeah, you know, it can't be. Have you played on the radio? Yeah. Yeah, that room that you've, the bands play in or sound.
Starting point is 00:28:33 No, they sent it. They told us what they were like putting messages. I stopped doing what you're doing. So, yeah, sorry about that WRCT. Yeah, I think we kept getting like, really, another one? All right. Is this for going to be 10 minutes long? All right, do it? No cursing. I keep coming across my notes that are because of my thumbs when I'm notes are all fucked up and like the word don't has an NJ
Starting point is 00:29:05 S and an E stuck on the end of it I'm like was I was I infected did I get infected? You did watch the movie maybe are infected yeah so now's about when you like learn what's happening so like men does drops it down he he actually called the sound booth a lifeboat which I love like this great so they hop the life boat and he starts telling what's going on the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. they. I'm they. I'm they. I'm they. I'm they. I'm they. I they. I they. I they. I that's is is is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is that's is th I I I I I I I I they. I they. I they. I they. I they. I they. I'm I'm the tttoday is today is tte. I'm today is today is te. I'm today is today is today. I'm today is today is today is this great. So they hopped in lifeboat, and he starts telling what's going on. You like to so much just to death. That's all I'm going to call it now, yeah. So he kind of explains what's going on. So what's happening he thinks is that somehow a virus came into existence from some sort of someone's understanding,
Starting point is 00:29:41 or what does he call it? He calls it a realization, like a something and somehow the virus came in from another dimension or whatever, it doesn't matter and he's starting to figure out how it works. And so what he says is that the virus moves through a single word when it's understood. And at first he doesn't think you can transfer over the radio but he's not really sure. And he still thinks it's through like, you know ter of endearment things that people really understand right and then at this point Laurel Anne's like bashing her face up against the glass and like she's hunting them yeah yeah yeah he says that she doesn't know it yet but she's hunting us and he's talking about like what a victim does if they can't
Starting point is 00:30:16 find another victim which is like right because he's like I've never seen them not find a victim. I've never yeah a victim find a victim So like and then she cuts her mouth open like the joker. Yeah, I thought she went in and Eighth that little girl or something because she won't she wanders off yeah, yeah, but then she walks over to and choose into something and spark shoot out around her head and then she comes back and she's got like the joker in her mouth. Maybe something was making noise? Maybe here's the radio or something because for their voice I don't know would it be playing in there? Oh maybe? I don't know. That's a good point yeah that's weird but then her mouth is all fucked up and she's smashing her face against the glass and it's just like blood. She barfs all that blood. Oh yeah. Because the v v v v v v v v v v v v. the virus. the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. th. th. th. the the the the the th. the the th. there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the. the the th. Maybe there'sfs all that blood. Oh yeah. Because the virus has to get out somehow I guess? And then she die. Yeah. How does the doctor get infected? Because they're all in the soundproof booth. So is it something that one of them says or was he already infected? How do you get? I thought he didn't get infected? I thought he. He just ran away, right? He did. He did because he kept saying the word, topip. the word, the word, the word, the word, the word, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their, their their, their their their their their their, their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. How, the. How, the. We just need to breathe. We have to learn and then like once he starts freaking out He realizes he's infected and he and then he starts trying to fix it. So how we fixes it? So how we fixes it is he starts speaking. the throwns and he realizes he can say the word breathe and it immunizes him from that same word so he cures himself. Got Armenian apparently. Oh, which I like that Netflix was like I don't. I the Netflix. I the Netflix. I the Netflix. I th. I th. I th. I like. I like. I like. I the Netflix. I th. I like. I th. I like. I like. I like. He's he's th. th. th. thi try try try try th. th. th. thi thi he he he he he he he he he he we could ever know what this is. Yeah, you saw the summation we gave to this movie.
Starting point is 00:31:47 That's too much work. You look if we got French when it came up. So yeah, so he's kind of talking about, and he quit speaking English pretty much at this point and tell them to speak French. The big crowd of zombies. Quick, before he does that, Grant on the radio and Sidney loops it Sydney Breyer is alive. Yeah Why? Because it spreads and she wants her kids who are a hundred kids who are a hundred kids
Starting point is 00:32:12 They're all saying and she can't get through them on the home and that's why also I thought he was infected is because when he runs outside to save them He's saying Sydney Bryers alive alive alive, alive, alive. Oh, okay. so. thi. I can't. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thi. the. th. Breyer's alive, so I don't know. Who knows? Yeah, I couldn't tell you because they thought he was saving them, and maybe he was, or maybe he's infected. Yeah, or both. Or either. Who knows? And while this is happening, you're slowly starting to hear like helicopters, they're the machine gun fire. And towards the end, the end, the end, the end, the end, the end, the end, the end, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, they's, they's, they're, they're, they're they're thoom. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're, they're, they're they're, they're they're. they're. they're they're they're they're th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. they're they're they're they're they're they're they loop Sydney Breyer is alive. A bunch of zombie people come in and you know once they start looping that outside they'll leave, they decide to run away from the doctor,
Starting point is 00:32:48 so they go into that little broom closet. Eventually he falls in him and then leaves and then they just kind of sit down and this is like the point in the movie we take a break and try to has passed because she starts writing on the door and it's everywhere And then you come back and she's wasted and it's just written all over the door and then this is totally make out these two are married in real life are they are they really really? I think I read that in a review are they in anything else because I have never seen either of them. Yeah, dude is in? Steven. What is in a bunch of stuff. Huh, Canadian stuff? Uh, no, he's in, he's in American stuff. I don't watch Canadian television. He's in, uh, he's in the, the Watchman movie.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Oh, no shit. Yeah, he's, he plays the old, He's played the old night owl. He was in an episode narrator of Basketball, the... He's got a great voice. He's had like, that radio voice is so good. And it's perp, and he like leans into it so well. He's, he was a, uh, in Watchman.
Starting point is 00:33:54 Isn't that a bunch of comic books? Mm-hmm. It's a bunch of comic books. So, Grant and, Grant figures out that they... He was in Pay the Ghost. I'm sorry, he was in Pay the Ghost. Was he? Doesn't even have a Wikipedia page, according to this Wikipedia page. He was the blind man. I didn't need to just get so excited. With the dreadlocks.
Starting point is 00:34:14 I think he was. I think it was a fake, the to me. All right, sorry. So Grant realizes he has to break language. And so you have to like... Which is where this totally goes off the rails for me, by the way. It stops working. It's very William S. Burrows. I don't know why I just said Burros. A Will you mess of Burrows.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Maybe you've heard of him. Hickory. Is that standard literature or what can it? So Grant decides to take the word kill. Because that's what Sidney keeps repeating. That's like her word she's hung up on. Oh right, and so I guess he figured out that the doctor cured himself with breaking the language. And she accidentally told him.
Starting point is 00:35:01 She said you have to, because she keeps saying kill, the word,, you kill the word that's killing you or something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then he puts two and do together and he's like, kill means kiss. Yeah, which breaks this down and then they fix it later, but like doing that, you still understand the meaning of the word. But earlier it was said that the virus, and this is really the virus, and the virus, and the virus, and the virus. But I earlier it was said that the virus and this is really weird but the virus is attached to a word right and so if you immunize that word then I think it's gone so it's not just a meaning I guess it has to be both but if you kill one it kills the other I guess. Yeah this is I didn't understand that and then I didn't understand how he like went into
Starting point is 00:35:37 the booth and just started shouting words like rhinoceros and I just don't understand how that's, I don't know. So I think the idea is that they, he realizes that you have to jumble meaning and words. So whatever words were, you have to change it. Okay. Right, so they started playing that game where he says like lunchbox and she's like tortoise and then they're going back and they're trying to like send a message out that you have to stop a the message......... Because their their their their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. they're going they're going they're going. they're going. they're going. they're going. they're going they're going. they're going. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. they're going. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. They're going. They're going. They're going. they're going. they're going. they're going................. They're going...... They're going. They're going. They're going. They're. They're. They're. They're the. They're. They're they're they're the. They're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're going. they're going. they're going. they're going. they're going. the. trying to like send the message out that you have to stop understanding. That it's all nonsense basically. Yeah. And there's some great lines here at the end. So they say like, you know, you kill the word that's killing you. She, when she's drunk, she's like, oh God, you're gonna eat me too soon, aren't you? Or we're not talking, I'm drunk.
Starting point is 00:36:14 That's how's the the th. super corny line when he breaks kill to mean kiss and she goes kill me kill me and it's like oh come on you know there's a couple of cheesy moments in this very titanic so then they run out paint me like your French girls they they run back out into the booth and they do that like wordplay thing and you you hear like in French they're saying like you need to stop this transmission they keep going and they start counting down the the the the the the the the the the they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they their. they. their. their. they. their. their. they. they they they're they're they're their. their. they're they're they're they're their. they're their. they're just. they're just like. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're. they're. they're. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. tttttttell. tttttell. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. the're saying like, you need to stop this transmission. They keep going and they start counting down. Yeah. And then you get that they're just,
Starting point is 00:36:50 they're gonna bomb this place or something. Well, don't forget that everything goes silent outside when Grant screamed stop. Yeah, I didn't get that part. Which again goes back to my the theory. That it's all in Grant's head. Or did he spread it with that? And that's what... Yeah, I mean, I mean, exactly, but... He's also in the soundproof booth, so I was hearing that stuff anyway.
Starting point is 00:37:10 That's true. How could he have heard any of it? Oh, it all collapses in itself, doesn't it? Um, hmmm... So then the things on the BBC where... Right, they're counting down in French. Did you mention that? Yeah. Oh, I was going to say the Coast Guard, but that's not what they're called. The National... The Coast Guard, way off course. I mean, you can't. I hear these boats scraping around. They, uh, they count it down and then they BBC guys talking like oh yeah there's a weird riot or something in Pontypool and that's who starts repeating Ponty Pool as it's continuing spread. There's a bunch of
Starting point is 00:37:49 different broadcast that yeah yeah yeah and then there's this weird little video at the end which is terrible. Okay explain someone to tell me about it. So I've read on the internet what it's about I don't know if if I the internet. I the internet. I the internet. I the internet. the internet. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the. It's. It's. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. It's the the the the the. It's is the. It's is the. It's is the. It's is th. It's is is is is th. It's is is is is is is th. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. th. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the te can tell you what the internet says. It was originally the ending of the movie and they cut it and put it as an after credit because every time the screened it people went, the fuck are you talking about? What is it? What is it? Go ahead. So according to the internet, the theory here is that somehow they survived and and earlier in the movie they mentioned that virus kind of the virus. the thi th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind kind of, kind kind of, kind kind kind kind kind, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind, kind kind kind, kind kind kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of, kind of kind of, kind of, kind of, works is you you build your world based on your words right if you don't know the word for something you really can't conceptualize that thing okay so the idea is that once this virus gets into words it actually gets into reality itself as far as your concern right it gets into the way that you think okay so what Grant and and Sydney are doing at the end is
Starting point is 00:38:39 they have they've kind of adapted to have a free flow language where they're constantly changing every word and every meaning. So the point where it's changed their actual reality. So when they're, like everything they see, like it looks like they're in Japan for some reason, he has a gun and everything's weird. You see that color starting to come in, it starts to come in.
Starting point is 00:39:02 It looks like this. Whoa, like like like like like like like like like, whoa, whoa, whoa, wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the the the to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that, they's they're they're that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, the that, then color starts to come in. It looks like this. Whoa, how strange. And as color comes in, that's supposed to be the virus figuring out what they're doing, so they have to keep changing languages. So the very last thing that they say, she says, like, sweetie. And it stops because you can't see the from your name. And they've given each other like weird names at the end of it.
Starting point is 00:39:25 No wonder they cut that. Yeah, it doesn't make any sense. Like it's... There's definitely a point to this movie where like, I think the idea of languages of virus is really interesting. And then at some point, this movie is like, I'm smarter than you are. thuny, th. th. th. th. th. thu. they. thu. thu. thu. thu. they. thu. thu. thi's thi's thi's thi's they. thi. thi. thi's thi's thi's thi's thi. Yeah, thi's thi's thi. Yeah, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It thi. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. It doesn't, yeah, I don't know, I like a lot of it, and I mean, I love this movie, don't be wrong, but, Oh, I didn't. The, oh, no.
Starting point is 00:39:49 Wait, what are there, Johnny Dead Eyes is what his name is, and she's Lisa the Killer. I guess if I was going to give myself a name, don't know, I like it. I think it's kind of a cool little sci-fi thing where like a virus gets in a language and it's just them kind of dealing with that and it's sort of the end of the world. Like at the end it's kind of the apocalypse, like everything's different. And there's like weird parallels where like earlier he says like here's how you get people listening radio. You get the mad listener is going.
Starting point is 00:40:21 . because a mad listener is going to go tell his neighbor and maybe they'll come listen. Sure. And it's like his whole thing is spreading this disinformation and like fucking up things in the real world. And then there's this virus that comes in into language and actually fuck's up the real world. I don't know, it's interesting. There's right now on the same week that Alex Jones apologized for Pizza Gate? Yeah, right? Like this disinformation, but in this different disinformation, do you know about Pizza Gate? I do not. I can explain it to you off air, but it's like, this conspiracy theory about politicians
Starting point is 00:40:55 like running a child's sex ring. Oh, yeah, they started talking about it. With an actual pizza. That a th. Yeah. A th. A th. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. I. I. I was. I was. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I....................................................................................................................................... an AR-15 and shot holes in the roof of. Well, yeah, I did hear Obama turned frogs gay too. That's another Alex Jones thing. Frogs were always gay. Right, but, so watching this movie on the same week that that happened, it was like, oh, this is very poignant. Yeah, we live in a world of fake news. Do-de-de-de-de-de-de-doo ratings phase. Yeah. That was my newsy voice.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Breaking news. Who would like to go first? I will because I don't know what I'm gonna say, so I might as I'll just start talking. Yeah, let's do this. I really didn't know if I like this movie or not. I like a lot of the vibes of it seems like welcome to Nightvale I feel like welcome to Nightfail totally cop this I mean I don't want to promote a podcast I guess I should promote a podcast it's less popular than ours and get to they
Starting point is 00:41:49 they predate this movie this two thousand eight I don't I don't think this was the movie was before. There are no smartphones. Yeah. 2012. Okay. So yeah, so Nightfail totally copped this Guys if you want to listen to another podcast you can listen to them I just I just want to you. You know, you got to bring others along with you. Check them out. Give them some numbers. They've been hurting. Yeah, they need it. But I liked that. I like like like that. I like that. I like that. I liked I liked. I liked. I liked liked liked like that. I liked liked like that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to tol. I'll to to tol. I'll tol. I'll tol. I'll tol. to to to to tol. tol. tol. the they I'll the they I'll they I'll they I'll. they I'll. tot. I'll. tot. I'll totally. I'll. I'll totally. I'll totally. I'll totally. I'll. I'll totally. I'll totally. I'll totally. I'll totally. I'll tot of it. Even the voice of Grant Mazzy is very, I forget the guy's name from night, it doesn't matter. But I really didn't know if I liked it. It ended and I was like, huh? And I feel like maybe I need to see it again or maybe I needed to like watch it more closely or think more about it. We've done such a spell of like dumbed movies where I'm just like, oh boy, here we go. That I haven't really really really such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such such a the th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've done. We've th. We've th. We've to to th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, I feel like, th. I feel like, boy, here we go. That I haven't really had to think too much about anything lately, which is a shameful thing to admit.
Starting point is 00:42:48 So basically I was going to let you convince me that I should like this movie, which you kind of did. So I think maybe I need to see it again. But I'm going to give it a six and a half and say, I'll give it a second watch. Which is like the most you can't you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you can. Yeah, okay. Joseph? Yeah, this movie has everything I love in a horror movie. Like, it has this thing, I don't even know what it's called, but like, when you watch a movie and stuff happens in it and you know that there's a reason for it, but you're not sure why, and you have to re-watch it to understand it, because, like, I think, I think it was smartly made.
Starting point is 00:43:24 I think there's so many interesting things going on that I've I think I've watched to maybe five times and not like a not a ton but that's a lot of time for this movie. Twice was for this. You watched it twice for this. I did I was on a trip and I watched it like really late at night when I was super tired and I and I tired and I tired and I'm tired I'm tired I'm tired I'm they. I'm tied I'm thired I'm thired I'm to thired I'm thired I'm to thired I'm to to to to to to to to to to to to th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the I've the I've the th. I've not th. I've not th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. not th. th. th. th. th. th. Not th. Not th. Not th. Not th. Not th. Not the not the not the not the not the not the not the not theea not thee not the an the an the an the not the not the not thice, and then I was like, okay, I should give it a real watch. But so it has that, has that like, that longevity to it where I could watch it five times and I enjoyed it every time. Jen came home when I was watching it and she was like, oh, I love this movie, and she was like, oh, I forgot all about this. So it has that. It's one of the few movies where the movies, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, it's, that, like, that, like, like, through like I'm my eyes are wide open I'm staring at it there's so few horror movies out there that do that very often or do it well yeah I thought all the characters are real I thought the acting was great there's a handful of cheesy things that like don't exactly work but hey I'll forgive him yeah I think for me I'm between a 8.5 and a 9 like I love this movie. That's everything I want in a horror movie. It's near perfect as far as a good horror movie goes.
Starting point is 00:44:28 It does build suspense incredibly effectively. It's like just, it even starts suspense while it's dark, it's snowing, he's driving in the snow, which is always like a tense sort of thing. This woman shows up and then it's from there, it just goes up and up and up and up. Yeah. And the stakes get higher and higher and higher as you see all of these people like, yeah. And it makes you think. I don't know, I like that. Well, yeah, that was hard on me.
Starting point is 00:44:51 But you like Get Out, that makes you think. Yeah. Well, they really spell that out for you though. I like this movie a really good idea that I don't know the follow-through is there for a lot of it, but I think it does have a lot of re-watchability if for nothing else just for the creep factor, for that like the theater of the mind like scaringness that happens from it and the acting is really good. I'm surprised that the actresses that are in this are not in more stuff they're both really great. That's a good point, because Sidney Breyer is like amazing. Yeah, I don't even know. She doesn't even have a Wikipedia page either. Yeah, it's so weird. And the younger woman is like a television actress, seemingly, but like minor roles.
Starting point is 00:45:29 Oh, really? Do we have the budget of this movie? Because it can't have been anything. I know it made $32,000. Yeah, I don't know what it costs. I didn't even know it was in theaters. I don't think it was for long. That's probably just like a festival, something or something. But I think this movie is really fun and interesting. It's like fun.
Starting point is 00:45:54 I do. Just good for enough fun. Yeah, I think it has humor throughout it. I think it has humor through it. That's probably disagree. Oh, come on, the singing? That was fine. But that's like the only time I feel the tension is really broken is in that scene. And even then it's like they break it for long enough for them to sing that ridiculous song. And then it's like right back in with this little girl who's like, you're concerned about. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:46:18 And maybe it's because I've watched it a the humor thuuuu sure. But yeah, I would definitely give it, I'll give it an eight and a half as well. Yeah, all right. It's a solid movie. It's on Netflix, so it's virtually free for you. Especially if you share Netflix, which I'm sure nobody does. That's illegal. Is it? No, I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:46:40 Yeah, but it's pretty great. Speaking of other thing of that nasty weather. Howling? No, I didn't hear any howling. Let me take your coat.
