Because there's a little British ghost girl hanging out and she's terrified. She's actually not. She's pretty cute and not that scary. Which is one of the many problems with ghost ship. Here's the thing, guys.

We didn't like this movie. But a lot of you seem to. We thought we would get a much different reaction when we announced that we were doing Ghost Ship and instead everyone was like, do some movie. What are you people talking about? Man, yeah this... Have you seen it recently? We keep renting these movies to watch them, yeah, and I want to stop doing that. So I'm worried that my 299 is going to be the 299 that so I'm worried that my 299 is going to be the 299 that makes go ship to happen. Oh, no I'm worried about a or the happening to oh no I don't I don't want Joel Silver to have any more of my money now there's a lot of pressure here, so we can't fuck this up anymore

I mean, to be fair, this movie opens with a really great death scene, like disgusting, upsetting death scene. Yeah, it made a chiller TV's top 13 death scenes or something because it's so ridiculous. It's so over the top. Absurd. And you like see it coming too so you're like, oh my god, oh, God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh my God, oh, uh, if you haven't seen the movie and don't care to, there's a big like, a big boat, I'd call it a big boat.

Cruise ship. That's what I was just reading Wikipedia at the same time I was watching it. Yeah, it does end up being 1962, I think, because it was 40 years before the movies made, which was 2002. And there are some people on the dance floor and there's a sexy lady singing a sexy song, And then you see like a hand, flip a switch, thapapapapap switch, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, th, like, th, the, th, th, the th, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. thi, thi, it's th. It's their, it's thi, it's th. It's th. It's th. But there's people there's people dancing in the ballroom inside of the ship and then there's people like dancing on the promenade deck outside of the ship. cable that snaps tot and it seems to have been wrapped in these different ways around the ship yeah tombs school yeah tombs school it's some it somehow hits everyone at waist level. Yeah. And then a couple people that hits in the face. Yeah, which makes no sense. And one guy's pants fall down, which makes no fucking sense. But it does lead to this cool thing of people just like, how the only thing

I can think of is the anime fist to the North Star where these people get punched a lot and then split in half but really slowly. So this is what happens like people get CGI cut in half. And they like sort of slide apart and then their bodies sort of fall. Everybody pauses for like one quick second. Everybody has their wily coyote sitting over the edge of the cliff moment. Which I actually really like this scene because I am deeply afraid of amputation. Oh really? Well, I was raised by, predominantly by careful Italian grandparents who really, hi, none, I haven't mentioned you in a couple episodes.

How you doing? Um, not listening to this podcast. New Johnny Depp movie coming out. Yep. They were always warning me about like, oh, we know a guy who had his arm out of a car window and a truck went by and ripped it right off and like we know a little boy who put his fingers too close to the box fan and his fingers got cut off you know from then on I was terrified of losing parts of my body to blades or tot wire or cars or please tell me they named like Tommy two toe

toes comes up everyone to us. It's always just this mysterious person like in the social circle that they th. th. th. th. th. th. It was th. It was th. It was th. So amputation stuff like really kind of messes me up. Okay. So I thought it was great. I loved it. Also it took out like 45 people in one second, which I love that. I love it. So this happens and then we quick cut to the salvage crew towing in this this boat that they've pulled back up and there. and there. and there. and there. the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. So,to the salvage crew towing in this boat that they've pulled back up and there's a... Okay, this is where we could start talking about how fucking ridiculous the soundtrack is. Yes, it's so bad. It's just this florid, like over the top, like, um, like, soundtrack just does

not mesh with the movie at all. It seems like they had the soundtrack to some, like, like, like Ivory romance film. They were just like, well just we already got this. You could you just use this and then throw in some mudstick songs later on. At one point in my notes I referred to this movie's Horror Titanic because of the sleeping romantic that and I know it's only a few years later but, this is not the Titanic. This is not a titanic at all. I just don't know. It did sink in the ratings, Katie. Just fucking lock it, we're done.

Even before we get to that, to any of this though, even in the opening sequence, the font, like the ghost ship font and all the actors' names are in like the Love Boat font, which was so weird. I can only assume that they did that to match the era. It sort of had like an I-love-lucy flavor to it. And so maybe they were trying to like put it into like a bygone era, like, but it it looked, it didn't make any sense like this is not a film that you want to try and get a high brow on I'm not figuring out anything in this movie and as it turns out it doesn't matter yeah and also when I look this up to rented on Amazon there was another movie called Ghost Ship not the not

Yeah, but they're setting up, they're, you, you immediately figure out that they're this tight family of misfits and nare do wells who are out on the open sea just to make a dollar yeah modern-day pirates modern-day you know swashmucklin Julianne Marguerite's looking beautiful in this movie oh yeah beautiful

woman she's the badass of the group at scenes yeah yeah but I like that the lady was the one who was willing to dive into the situation yeah was that a pun? Also in this movie, Aomere from Lord of the Rings. That was a kid guy. And the drunk dad from Super 8. It was everybody. Who was that? It was like...

That was the other like teenage boy in the group. Yeah, the blonde guy. In my notes I kept referring to them as Aomere and the other one. And then Gabriel Byrne as the sort of dad of the group? I feel like he was, what is the guy's name, Yurgan Prochnow, the guy from like... I do not know who that is. He's from, yeah, I'm going to list a bunch of movies you haven't seen. Go for it. He's, he's Duke of Trades in Dune, he is in Das Bout, he's been in a ton of stuff. He's in John Carpenters in the Mouth of Madness, he's Suttercane. He's just this Russian actor,

but like I felt like Gavril Brown was kind of channeling him on some level but also I felt like Gabriel Brown was like, what's his a paycheck? Yeah, I don't, you know what? I felt like he was the only one who committed to his character. I feel like Marguerite really got in there? See, she was, well we can get to this in a minute, but, oh and then there's also a repair guy named Santos. Oh, there's the Latino guy, the black guy, the black guy. Right, I was going to be more delicate, but spoiler alert, Latino guy dies first. And then the black guy is Isaiah Washington, I, our cast with two television hospital drama actors. Oh, yeah.

Yeah, he was on Graze Anatomy and Julianne Margulies was obviously a ER. And then I like quickly look through the rest of them to see if they were also television hospital drama actors, which I couldn't find anything else. So they kind of introduced themselves, but I feel like it was kind of like a screenwriting 101 exercise of like tell us everything you need to know about this character in less than a dozen words. Oh yeah yeah, tight exposition. Why don't I have a family because I love these monkeys and we hang out together and we're badasses and that's it. And then Aumier and Super 8 dad are just like oh spit-ball forked and the two kids. Yeah, yeah. Oh, I guess these are these guys.

And I kind of felt like, yeah, they set Julian and Marguerite immediately up to be, what is the, is it the Madonna and the whore? She's kind of like, she's the sex symbol, but she's also the mom symbol, like, couldn't throw another lady in there to split this up? Only one the lady lady lady lady lady lady lady lady lady the lady lady lady lady tha one one one one one one about it. Oh, and then titties from someone else later. Oh, later titties. We'll get to later titties later, obviously. As their name would imply.

So, okay, so they run into this guy. They're out of bar, maybe? I was kind of like staring at the wall. So they're just, back into port. There's all this action to get them to bring it back in the port. Also, why aren't they wearing scuba gear if they're going to swim around and weld shit? Because it was just, it was spur of the moment, they just hopped in there. It was a, yeah, it's sort of like Pearl Jamme was going to rescue at one point. a little bit of depth I actually thought it was fine like like for what this movie is it was a fine amount of setup that went into that yeah we knew we knew they were all going to die except for probably one to to the to the the to the the to the the the the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the the thi the that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the th the th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theyc I I was theyc I theyc I was theynenenenenenene the the the the the get on with the bodies. Yeah I mean you can definitely tell who was going to go out and who wasn't. Yeah from the beginning from the get-go. So they meet this guy in a bar who tells him about he shows him like an overhead aerial shot of a boat he has found he called he says he's like a Canadian pilot or something? Yeah he was doing like some surveying out of an ocean and he finds this the ship. Yeah the the the the ship. the the the the the ship. the the the the ship. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to is is is to to to to they. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. the the the the the the the the the ocean and he finds this ship. Yeah, so they agree to go find it because it's like the silver tuna you know I guess or whatever. So they take this guy with them and he's going to get a cut of their of whatever they they get for salvaging it. And in this scene I noticed that pretty much the entire

movie was done in ADR. Everyone is talking from like shot from behind their head while talking and it still sounds terrible. Like, I know this comes up again and again that I never understand what anybody is saying, but I could not understand a goddamn word anybody said in this movie. Watch it with subtitles. Did you? Yeah. So, it's so, it's just, I cannot, I can't hear it. I don't know shit about boats. There are a lot of scenes this movie.

They're like, we'll go to get to the hall and go, go to this part and do this. And I'm like, you think that people know what that means? People don't know what that means. Ah, whatever. Is this where I tell you throwne. I'm just an indoor kid. You tend to know a lot more about stuff than I do. About dumb stuff, like shipwrecks.

Well, it has helped you in your ghost ship. Oh God. Yeah, this guy just kind of pops out of nowhere and he's like, hey, I got this moat. You guys want to go find this boat? And they're like, yeah, we're a family. and even though we've spent like 15 minutes setting this up already they get to the go ship pretty quickly in the movie like they're they're there 10 minutes in it's fast which nice because you're like they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're the the their their their their their their their their their their. their. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th th th go go. the. the. the. the. the. theee. the. theeeee. you're like, well, they're not going to fuck around too much. And they did exactly what I expect them to. The ghost ship's on radar, it's off radar, it's on radar, they hit the ghost ship. And then they're like, oh, the hole seems to be taking on water. Something must have hit it, and I'm like, you hit it, th. This is the point where I said they could use a 10 foot pole for all of you gamers out there because they're like walking around on this rusty as ship and someone falls through the floor. Yeah. They should have been tapping with a 10 foot pole. See what's going on.

They keep talking about maritime law. I did look that up and it is maritime law. Really? I just assume that maritime law. I just assumed that maritime law was made to be broken so. So really as quickly as they get on the ship, Lord of the Rings falls through the floor and Julianne Amarulis pulls him back up because she's like, bitch is strong. And while she's pulling him, while she's like hanging down through the hole in the floor, she sees to like a lower deck I guess or whatever you call on the boat.

You got it. Sure. I'm here for all of your nautical terminology. That's nautical corner. She sees like a ghost child, a little girl in the dress and you're like, oh, that's the little girl from the first scene. Right. gothy you know a little man got a teenager not not like the problem with this movie not not like the problem with this movie was that it's a great concept, like an ocean liner, abandoned in the middle of the ocean, the ocean is scary as shit. Like, it's so vast and so, you know, there's so much we don't understand out there. Filled with monsters. Filled with dinosaurs. Legit monsters. And like people dying on a cruise ship that is then abandoned in the middle

of the ocean and haunting it is a really scary concept. For sure. They don't, it's not, they don't do that. No. I mean, they go a completely different direction with it. I felt like they were definitely aping alien. Yeah. And they just totally missed the mark. Yeah. This is obviously something that could be very terrified. Yeah. Supernatural, just creepy, inescapable. Like you're in the middle of the ocean. Where are you going to go? Oh, because what happens to their boat? Well, the boat gets blown up. Right.

The ghost blows up the boat and that kills our boy Santos. RIP. I miss you boo. Yeah, we hardly knew you. And they are like not as bummed as they should be. Right. Like they don't even care. The one guy's like upset, mad, but no one's like... Yeah, Super 8 gets into a fist fight with the new guy and then it's immediately settled. It's done. They've moved on, they've got. So they done. They've moved on, they've got... So like, well, Santos is dead. So to get back to wrapping up the plot real quick. So they, they see the ghost girl and that like, seemingly doesn't freak out Jolia Margulis as much as it would be. No, she keeps being like, she keeps saying to people like, I think I saw a little girl and they're like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, so, thi, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so to to to to to to to to to to get, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to get to to to to to to to to to to to get to to to to get to get to get not. Which happens to everybody I would shit my pants when Isaiah Washington sees a ghostly and he's like oh this lady

was singing to me she sounded beautiful and they're like I you're crazy. I'm pretty sure your girl would be mad if she found out you were a necrophilia. Yeah, just saying it. He's also like, nice titties. He said the nice t a picture. That's right. It's not even her actual titties, which we see later.

Those are those later titties. Oh yeah, the later titties continue to be later. So through a bunch of stuff there looking around on the ship to see what condition it's in and what they can find. And lo and behold, they come upon boxes filled with gold. Then they all have a team meeting and they're like, oh fuck the boat, we got the gold. Yeah. And that's when Santos goes back to the ship to get it back, ship shape. Oh, sure. I jumped ahead with that. Sorry about that. No, no, no, it's fine. Because it had been previously set up that they're tug a boat who was like barely going to make it back. Right. Because they went went went went went went went went went went playing their went their went. And it went. And it was to to to to to to to. And well. And, their boat blows up, mysteriously to all of them, Santos is gone, Isaiah Washington gets rescued,

start drinking old-ash champagne. Yeah, I want to put that down. Yeah. And there was a scene where Gabriel Byrne and I can't remember the other character was walking with him at the time. I think it was, it might have been Santos actually. He's walking up to the captain's quarters and he just turns around and looks to the guy like, this is mine and the guy goes, oh right, and walks away. And I was just like, is that like a thing we're captain on captain? Yeah, yeah, I remember that scene because I was like knowledge. Yeah, I'd never heard of the captain checks about captain rule, but... And then he, Gabriel Byrne goes into the captain's quarters and finds like an open bottle of scotch or something, and he just is about to drink it.

Right, it's been established earlier that he doesn't drink when the new guy offers to buy him a drink and Julianne Margulies. And her mom rolls says he doesn't that thi's. She seems to be standing you the group that's killing everyone and then they've killed everyone and now they're going and they're celebrating, they've gotten the gold

and then one of them, the lounge singers in on it too. Yeah, Francesca. She's given the eye to this other guy, and he takes a machine gun and lays waste to everybody. The deaths in this were entirely disappointing except for the first one. Yeah, they brought you out with a high body count though.
