Starting point is 00:00:00 DIMEY. DIMEY. DEMY, why you not have guest episodes, DEMY? Why you not have guest episodes, DEMY? We have guest episode. Can I bring you a guest all the way from Canada? DEMY, why you do this to me? Bring me guest. D-me, you know what? I'm totally forgot about that part.
Starting point is 00:00:35 Deemie. The parts. We got a guest. We got a movie. We got a podcast. Who are we? I'm Katie. I'm Alan. I'm Jeremy. Hey Jeremy. Where we're a fan to ones. Hey, I've never called you Jeremy in my life. I'm hedges. That's better. Now they know your full name. I can't find you. They specifically do not know our full names. They do. They do. They do. Yeah. I used to accidentally put it into the produced to buy section. Oh, yeah. That wasn't good. No. They. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We were. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. the. We're. the. We're. the. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. We're. They do. Yeah. Remember I used to accidentally put it into the produced to buy section?
Starting point is 00:01:05 Oh yeah. That wasn't good. Now, no, we were young broadcasters back then. Yeah. No, we were still middle-aged. Well, at least me. Dee me. Hello, Jeremy. Hello. I'm not going to call you Jeremy. How is fine. How is Canada? It's good. It's good. It's as cold as it gets in Pittsburgh right now. So during the winter I mean. Like negatives. It's well negatives in the Celsius sense but I know that doesn't mean anything. Zero is the same as 32. It doesn't ever get in the negatives in Pittsburgh really. With the wind chill. really. With a wind chill. I got that wind chill down there by the river. They got to close the Mawn Wharf. It gets flooded and it freezes over.
Starting point is 00:01:50 But like everything after November is negatives. So. She is. It's like, the snowed. to hang out with Hedge, get in toucest, we'll set you up. Come to Ottawa because you definitely don't live here. Jeremy is a long-time friend of both Katie and I who recently moved to Canada, and we never had him as a podcast guest while he lived with us in Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:02:20 Specifically because this is an interesting scenario. This is our experiment, yeah. This is our experiment because all of our previous guests have been horror movie fans or movie fans who also enjoy horror, who have brought us their favorite movie. Hedges doesn't like horror movies and we were like, well, fucking watch the exorcist. Yeah, we'll pick the best one for you. Yeah, we picked it. We picked it and we're going to talk it. Demi. Come to Dimmie. Did you have that one loaded for a while or that to?
Starting point is 00:02:54 It's just came to me. It's like one of those things that I can't come, can't stop from coming out of my mouth. What is she actually saying? She's a name, Damie. His name is Damien and she calls him Dimmie. This is father. I thought at first it was like Timmy. I thought it was Timmy at first. Timi. But you know with the accent you know. Sure. So we're learning now that Hedges is not a hundred and nine like myself and didn't watch this with subtitles? No. Oh no I watched it with no subtitles on my laptop with headphones. And then halfway through I took the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones the headphones th an th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to th. to to to to th-I th-I thi. told. told. told. to tom-I tom-I tom-I tom-I tom-I thi. I was. I was. I was thi. I was thi. I was th. I was th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. toe. I was. I was. I was. I was. I'm. I'm. I'm. tm. tm-I today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. my laptop with headphones. And then halfway through, I took the headphones out,
Starting point is 00:03:26 so I really couldn't hear what anybody was saying. You, shames. Well, we had discussed over the weekend whether or not you were actually gonna finish the movie. Did you? That is true. I did finish the movie. I was very anxious through about 95% of it, and then I kind of saw the end coming and felt okay by that point. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:45 This is the third horror movie I've ever seen if you count the other two. What were, which were what? Go ahead. Uh, 28 days later, which you guys have reviewed. Yes. And, uh, the witch. Yeah. Yeah, which we've it here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Should we talk about this movie? Yeah, how do you want to get into this? Let's start with the fact that I forgot all about the Iraq scenes. And when it came up and just said like northern Iraq, Rob started booing? And I was like, must do you? Well, I was like, oh, I didn't know you guys picked an Indiana Jones film that I hadn't seen yet or... What old Indiana Jones?
Starting point is 00:04:29 Closed Encounters of the third kind or any of the other movies from the 70s and 80s that start with an exposition and in the desert. Yeah, always the desert. That was Missy's thing. She was like, oh, it's a 70s movie. It starts in the desert. Also why is everyone interact just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's they. that's a that's a that's a th. It's thi. It's thi. th. they. thi. thi. thi. th. the, it's. the, it's. I is. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's a. It's a the the the the the thi. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's. It's a. it's a 70s movie, it starts in the desert. Also why is everyone interact just banging on things? Literally the entire country is just people banging on things. That part has, since I was a child, since I first saw this movie, that's my most anxious inducing part of the movie, because I'm like, where's all the sound? Where is it all coming from? Just people banging on shit. sets the tone for the rest of the movie. We're like, oh, there's gonna be a lot of banging and guys with one dead eye.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Yeah, legit. And statues with huge venuses. Did you see that dong? I didn't notice the dong, I'll be honest. You always look at a dick. Well, that's true. I just didn't, I guess maybe in the way that it was kind of framed on my laptop, I didn't really notice it, but. Yeah, it's, it's definitely like, it's not shot so you can see the dung super prominently,
Starting point is 00:05:30 but it's like once you notice it, you're like, you know, it's like Jesus' face and the side of a cow, you can't stop staring at it. Right, I think the sound of like the dogs fighting and like just the strings in the background I think I couldn't, the sound was a little weird for me so I don't know what that was actually supposed to be but it's just like escalating kind of a crescendo of noise at that point was more agitating and like creepy to me than like the actual statue but it will all work together really well. What is the the thing that they find in the the the the the the the the little the the the little the the the the the the the th. the th. thole thole tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho. tho thi. thi. the. the. I was like. I was like, the the the the sound. I was like, the the th. I was like, the sound. I was like, th. I was like, th. I was like, th. I was like, th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. th. I was like th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. the. the. th. the. the the the the. the the the. the the the. the. the the thing that they find? In the in the little hole in the ground? Yeah. It's a it's like a St. Christopher or a St. Joseph medal? No no no like the little the statue thing.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Oh it's a pizu head. It's a charm. It's a charm. Yeah. Okay. Well head of the head of the head of the head of the dick. How does it get it get it get it get it get it get it get it get it get the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. the the the the the the the the th. the the th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. because like it was the stuff that was in that hole was like incongruous to the time period that it should have been in there. But then how did it get to Washington DC? Because of demons? They took it there. Yeah. Is that explained in the novel? Are you talking about the metal or the statue? The statue? The little little head that he finds in there that he has to like, the the, the the the the the the the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, because, th. th. th. thi, because, because, thi, because, because, because, thi, because, because, thi, because, because, thi, because, thi, because, because, because, thi, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, thi, because, because, because, thi, because, because, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, because, to, th. th. th. th. th. th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, thi. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. Because, the. Because, the. Because, the has to like chisel out. Because there's, I did read about the metal because I was very confused by it showing up at the beginning and then at the end. Yeah. And that is not meant to be the same one which people were confused by. I didn't think that, but I was, I assumed it was like some common thing. But there were people who like, how did it get there? How did it? Like the question? I? I? I? I? I? the question? the question? How? the question? the question? How? How? the question? the question? How? How? the question? How? the question? How? the question? How? How? How? How? the question? How? How? How? How? How? How? th? th? How? th? th? thi? th. th. th. th. th. that? th. th. that? th. th. that? th. th. th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th? th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi? th. to? to? to? to? to? to? to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the? the? the No, I thought the same thing about the metals. Yeah, because it's the same design on the metal, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:08 But my question would be, how did it get, how did the metal get there? Or why is it there? I don't know. I feel like this movie could really do without all of this? Like do you need any of this? Oh, really? Really? the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the, the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th.. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the, the, the, the same, the same, the same,? Yeah, it's showing that like... Well, except that they don't say his name at all, even though he could have easily, like, when he's leaving and the guy's like, I wish you weren't leaving father, he could have said his name so that when he's introduced later, you actually know who they're talking about, even though it's obvious that that's who they're talking about, like they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they're they're they they they they they they they they they they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't.... they don't they don't they don't. they don't. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're. they're th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. they're don't they're don't they're. They assume you know what's going on. You're hip to the jive. They assume you read the book, I think, is the big thing, like the Godfather in a lot of ways. Right, and at this period, like in 73 when this movie came out, that book was fucking huge. Yeah. So I remember. I was zero. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. I was negative. occurrence. Congrats. I got that not being born yet.
Starting point is 00:08:05 I actually really liked the exposition. I mean, but for me it was like, this is minutes that won't be terror-inducing. I mean, they were a little bit, but it was like cutting into the time of the movie, so I felt, you know, like I was. There was going to be less shit that freaked me out. It was cutting down down down down down down the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the out. It was cutting down on the spooch. The lower-end there was. Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:28 I've seen, you know, I like this. I like the opening stuff in Iraq, but I agree that like, if they just started off with the Wigebord stuff, you'd be fine. Yeah, I forgot about times in my life. I was like, oh, this movie is about Father Marin. Is it? Yeah. The whole, but he's the exorcist.
Starting point is 00:08:51 Well, yeah, but he. So it's like, but it's like, but it's like, the story is the stay. But we're just coming in from this. This is like our entree into the story is Reagan. Spoilers when he dies at the end, like, I don't feel particularly sad. I mean, I'm like much more sad for Dimmie, right? Oh, 100%? Yeah. Still tear up every time I watch this movie.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Oh, that stuff fucks me up. Um, are we talking about the ketchup explosion right now? The ketchup explosion? The ketchup? That was my idea? I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I I I I I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. thi. I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I'm th. I-up bottle set to the 20th century Fox that you played on a flute? That was my idea. I know, I was my idea. I know, a million dollar idea. And you got their- someone else executed on it.
Starting point is 00:09:34 I will come back. I will come back. to the. Yeah. So then it t in a movie about rights, I guess. She's like the one that's telling everybody just to calm down. And they're all like, yeah, they're still cheering. I couldn't tell if she was with her against the crowd. No idea.
Starting point is 00:09:57 But I couldn't tell if they were cheering against against her or with her. It was very confusing. It doesn't seem like she knows either. No. Also, given the state of that director, he probably didn't know even. He's like the precursor to that movie Arthur starring Dudley Moore. Oh my god. You fucking Nazi. What a dick, Burke is. And the guy's like, I'm Swiss.
Starting point is 00:10:21 I don't know why he sounds like that. Oh, did he actually say that? I didn't catch that. Yeah. If the the the the the the the the the the the the the that. If you, th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. th. thi. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's. the. the. the. to. the. to. to. to. the. to. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. sounds like that. That's not what Swiss people sound like. Oh did he actually say that? I didn't catch that. Yeah, if you'd had your subtitles on you would have seen him say, I'm Swiss. I just want to talk about her kitchen really quickly and how it's a diner. Why does she have that enormous cooktop? Why who has that in their house? I can't figure out why all her stuff her stuff her stuff her stuff her stuff her stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff their stuff th. I th. I thu. I th. I'm thi. I'm th. I thi. I'm thi. I'm to to to to to to that that that that that that that that th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. I's th. I'm just just to to to toge. I'm t t. All her stuff. Like, that's not like her house. Like, they're just there to shoot this movie. But like, all their stuff's there. She sold her old house and had most buying houses. They moved everything.
Starting point is 00:10:52 It sounded like, but like. Temporarily? Yeah. Well, when you're rich, I mean, she had like eight servants. that. I mean, they thr. that. that. that. that. that. that. they. they. they. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I was like, I feel like this is how Lucy gets when she's over tired and I was like, yeah, we should just leave her. We should just go home. He was in good form when we watch. Don't even bother putting her in a bassinet and
Starting point is 00:11:36 sign her down the river. Just walk. She can have the house. hers. We're done. But yeah, I don't know why her kitchen is so fucking ridiculous. We see Reagan and Chris McNeil, Reagan's mother, and they're like loving and ha ha ha, rassling on the ground. All the servants love everybody. Yeah, the servants are very happy to be there. Is Sharon a servant? Is she like the nanny? I think she's like her personal, she's a like personal assistant. Yeah, it seems like maybe her role changed? Is the their, is, is like, it was like, it was like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, their, th. their, their, their, thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the nanny? I think she's like her personal, she's her like personal assistant. Yeah, it seems like maybe her role changed. It was like whatever's convenient at that moment in the movie. Yeah. So when we're introduced to Chris McNeil, she's woken up in the middle of the night with to the sound of rats in in the the the quotes because it sounds like a bathtub being thrown down a steps. Yeah it's so loud and she's to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi thi's like thi's like thi's like thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's like, th. th. th. thi's like, thi's like, thi's like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. theee. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. the. the. the. the. so loud and she's just like, I think we've got rats. I was like, how big are these rats? And Carl's like, no we don't. And she's like, nope,
Starting point is 00:12:29 yep, no we do. I know a rat when I hear one. It sounds like a bathtub being thrown aflat of stairs. You nutsy fuck. But what is it's the demon? It's the demon? It's like, she uses the Weegee Board? Well, she's been using the Weegee Board, but it's like it's a before we see it before we know about it. Yeah And I did listen to a podcast called Inside the Exorcist, which I highly recommend. It's a seven-part thing where they go like deep dive into the exorcist. Oh, so you can explain it to us. Uh, probably not. You know how good my retention skills are. But, they they they they they they the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi thi's thi's thi's thi's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the. the the. the. the. thi. the. Probably not. You know how good my retention skills are. But he goes into the whole backstory of like the actual possession that this is based on, that took place in Maryland. And so when she's in the attic and like that candle like flames up real high, yeah, what was that about? It's something that happened to like the mother of this kid who was possessed. It was a young boy and they were not rich tha tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho who was possessed. It was a young boy and they were not rich, but yeah. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:13:26 Yeah. So in order you need to read the book and know about the history to understand bits and pieces of this or the whole thing. Or you just go along for the scare ride when all the really freaky shit starts happening. Yeah, I never thought about any of this before like how the demon gets there or what, I mean, I really considered the you're just like get to the pea soup and the real weird stuff with the crucifix yeah yeah also did strange land with D. Snyder from Twisted sister hell yeah Captain Howdy that's gonna I was gonna say wasn't he using the screen name Captain Howdy fucking D Snyder's is he dead? No okay just thinne no and he's surprising not a right to the the the the the the the the to to to the the to to to the the to the the the to the to to to the the to the to the to the the to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the. the the the the the the the the the the. the the the. the the the. the. the the. the. the. the. th No. Okay, I just thought I'd ask. No, and he's surprising and not a right-wing nut job either. Oh really? Do you say that's cool? No, but he's not the nudge.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Yeah. That movie was scary to me when I was a teen. Oh really? They're so in their mouth shut. Not to diverge so far from a thing you have no idea what we're talking about hedgeman, but there's this one scene where like the cops are investigating a crime scene and they find like a barbell that someone had through their ear or nose or whatever. And they're like, what is this thing? And the toe truck driver comes up and he goes, it's a double zero gauge, blah, blah, blah. It's a piercing. Welcome, to my world. It's a piercing. Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, to to the the that, that's that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a piercing. that's a piercing. that's that's that's that's a piercing. that's a piercing. that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's that's a, that's a, that's that's that's that's that, that, that, that, that, that, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a th. th. th. their their their their their their their their their their their their their the. their the. the. the. that's a bar. that's your world? What if your world was that? Just knowing all the stuff about your sinks. Oh boy, boy, oh boy. And that just has stuck with me for some reason. I'm just being like, wow D. Snyder, he nailed it dog. We should really do that movie. We should do that movie. Yeah. Maybe that's our Christmas movie. Christmas time is here.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Welcome to my world. It's bad. So we go through, we fall in love with Reagan because she's a precocious young girl, just once a horse. I knew that was going to be upsetting to you. Why is she riding a stranger's horse? She's like, he let me ride it all around. And her mom's like that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. that's that's a that's a's horse. He's like, he let me ride it all around. And her mom's like, that's great. I'd be like, what the fuck?
Starting point is 00:15:27 This is Washington, D.C. This isn't like fucking Green Gables out here. You know what I mean? Get off that horse. It's a stranger's horse. Why was Sharon letting this happen? That's all. Sharon lets all of this. This is all Sharon's fault. If she had been a better PA. My new theory is that Sharon is behind all of this, and I just developed it. But I'm going to do the rest of the episode like I believe it. The worst thing, the only thing I can think of, like I just saw Equus the play a few months ago, I was playing in Pittsburgh and like the riding of a stranger's horse has much different consequences than that play
Starting point is 00:16:05 that it does in this movie. Although not that different? Yeah, demon possession? Yeah, it's more sexual awakening in Nequist, so that's... And we're... It's a little bit different than this movie. But is it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:22 I'm gonna go on a limb. I don't think this is like Reagan's coming of age tale. That's what you mean? I don't know. It's all I have to say about horses. What did you say? So that's all I have to say about the horse bit. So we've seen Father Caris watching Chris McNeil film her incomprehensible scene where she loves it he's delighted so happy so delighted do you fun fact about father Caress that I
Starting point is 00:16:50 learned from that podcast he is Jason Patrick of the Lost Boys the older brother Michael that's his dad really yeah also hit there his other son and Jason Patrick's brother, the little annoying kid from near dark. I hate that kid. I know you do. Oh man. Homer.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Wow. Yeah, Jason Patrick's name is Jason Patrick Miller. Interesting. Also his hair is so lustrous. Can we talk about it for a second? Father Carrass? It's so nice. Everything, he's just like the saddest rocky.
Starting point is 00:17:25 I was gonna say he's a shitty rocky, like a just a really forlorn rocky. He's every guy in the 70s that saw Rocky and went, that's me. That's pretty much me. Yeah. That's what, that would be me. I'm an underdog. Hitches, have you seen this kind of thing? I believe I've seen bits and pieces of it enough that I that I that I think the only one I actually saw was the one with the Russian, where he gets the steroids. I get the steroids.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Number one, Rocky itself is one of the most triumphed to this. Yeah, I love it. But I also love four. Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. in Siberian. When did Rocky come out relative to this? Uh, 1970, right? 71? Okay. I thought Rocky was... I don't know why I was thinking about the godfather.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I'm very confused all of a sudden. Just all these Italians and Greeks, they're all the same to me. Rocky would have been late, uh, late 70s, yeah. Oh, so that, this movie was before that. Uh-huh. Mm-hmm. Okay. Interesting. Because it did it did feel like that was a reference point for it. I mean, with all the talking about, well, when the detective's talking to him about, you you know, you look like a famous box or whatever and then. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Yeah. He does say that stuff so right I had assumed that Rocky was prior to this actually so Nay, my friend To bring the horse thing full circle boo boo to bring northern Iraq full circle so callbacks within callbacks. So father cares the storyline is basically that he has left his mother and feels really guilty about it. And he's a psychiatrist and a priest. And if he had just gone into private practice,
Starting point is 00:19:16 he could take care of his mama, but it isn't to care of his mama. He's straight up lets or die. That's so sad. It's so, and and he's lost his faith. Yeah, he's questioning at the the the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. the the th. the th. th. the thi's th. th. the the the the the the their their their their their their their the story the story the story the story the story the story the story the story the story. the the the the the story. the the the the the the the the their. their. their. their. their. their their their their th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th.. It's so, and he's lost his faith. Yeah, he's questioning at the beginning, yeah, yeah. And just like, oh, I'm sorry, going. He, his mother is in New York City and everything takes place in D.C. Correct? Yes.
Starting point is 00:19:38 Okay. I just, there was some jumps in time and distance That were very not subtle. they show him in, the, the, the, the, the,. Yeah, it's confusing because they show him in like Brooklyn taking care of her and then in the next in the previous scene he was in D.C. like and then you don't show him getting there. Right. You just see him in the subway with the, can you spare a dime for an old altar boy father? I'm a catheter. Yeah, that guy's so upsetting. Yeah, that guy's so upsetting. Yeah, I don't that's that's that's that's that's that's the that's the the that's the that's the that's the the that's so upset. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. I think that's what Midnight Meat Train was trying to do and they were just failed miserably
Starting point is 00:20:11 on it. Probably. Yeah. More Vinny Jones. Yeah. This was the movie also the first time that I ever knew that priest, think, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's that's that's that I was that I was that I was that I was thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that I ever knew that priests drink and smoke and it blew my mind when I was a little kid. Really? Yeah. I didn't think that Jesus people were into that stuff. Jesus partied so hard though I mean he hung out with whores and turned water into wine like. I stopped going to church when I was eight. I missed out on all that stuff. Yeah. The priest are just living in the dorms with students. Is that kind of what the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's p. Jesus p. Jesus p. Jesus part. thi. Jesus part. Jesus part. Jesus part. thi. Jesus. Jesus. Jesus. th? I was kind of confused because I wasn't sure if he was a student or?
Starting point is 00:20:46 Oh no, he's the parish psychologist. Right, right, they established that after that scene, I believe. He is straight up living in a dorm though. Yeah. With that gay priest, he's like, and they love me. I love him. He's so peppy. I wrote down in my notes that that that that th th th th th th that th th th th th th th th th th th th the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea.'s so peppy. I wrote down in my notes gayest priest question mark. Yep, yep, yep, yep.
Starting point is 00:21:08 I have a fun anecdote about that guy at the end of this. Great. I look forward to hearing it at the end of this. So, Father Carus goes back to D.C. And then there's the scene where the guy walks into the church and someone has put horned boobs and a penis on the Virgin Mary? Yeah I like that. I assume that's a reference to the statue that I didn't see the penis on earlier? Yeah. Gotcha. And also I think it's all supposed to be hilarious? I don't know what it's supposed to be.
Starting point is 00:21:38 It looked like something from like Mardi Gras. Like she might be going,e! Who did that though? For the demon? The demon? Okay, I keep asking the question and the answer just keeps being like the demon. Who let her ride that horse? Oh, that's a good question. Sharon. Sharon is the demon.
Starting point is 00:21:58 At least Sharon lets the demon in. Notice she doesn't come with them at the end. Oh, that's true true true true true true true true true th th th th th that's that's th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, the, the, the, tho, the, tho, tho, tho, thethe end. Oh, that's true. I don't know what that means. She's the Pazoo dude. Um, So then we're at the jazz party? Where all the adults are having jazz times? That looks really, do that make either of you feel like I would rather be dead than be there? It looks so uncomfortable to the White House. So I was like, oh, this is at the White House, but this is a weird White House.
Starting point is 00:22:27 Yeah. And they're like, oh, she's having a party. Okay. And they love me. And they love me. The idea of standing around a piano and singing with own insecurities that do that. I think it's because in our generation, the equivalent of that was the guy who pulls out the acoustic guitar at the party and everybody hates that guy, you know what I mean? It's true.
Starting point is 00:22:52 It's like just a different era. Yeah, and we had recorded music. Yeah. They didn't is the fantastic scene where Reagan walks in. And I love that there's the priest and an astronaut are talking to each other. I'm like, this is the beginning of a joke. But she walks in and pees on the floor and says you're going to die up there. Yeah. Which is he'll hella upsetting.
Starting point is 00:23:21 It is extremely upsetting. It is extremely upsetting. Because if your kid does that, something is terribly wrong with them. Yeah. Yeah, she's like 12. No need to pee on that floor. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. And then that poor servant has to clean it out of the carpet. She could feel so bad about that. Poor willing. She's like, I think so when she has if it's come about. I expected Chris Big Deal to be like, well put put some elbow into it, let's do this. Or just freak out and scream and swear it whoever she's talking to, like she touched throughout the movie. Yeah, she gets really unreasonably angry at that, presumably a hotel, or the operator, when she's starting to get through to the hotel in Rome, she's just fucking screaming at this lady. Trying to get in tou-to get in to get in to get in to get in to get in to get in to get in to get in the to get in to get in the s s s s s s s s s s s s s s s s s s s scete in the sc, to get in the sc, to get in to get in the ex-husband. I guess. Is this where we see the scene with the scary face that's like spliced in?
Starting point is 00:24:08 Did you notice it edges? The dreams sequence with a priest, yes I did. Well that's the second time that it happened. The misfit skull or whatever? Yeah, that's Pizzuzu. Okay, that's izzuzu. Oh, okay. In cartoon form. What does that mean? It's the demon Pazuzu. That's the name of the demon with the big dick. Really?
Starting point is 00:24:28 Yeah, he's an actual demon. Are there actual demons? No, but I've seen a statue of Pazu Zu when I was in the, the national, or the National History Museum in, in England, in London. And they had a little pazooz and I was like, I like it was a big dick. Culture. But it was like, oh, oh, this is the thing that's not just in the exorcist, it's in the real world. Okay, I didn't know that. Yeah. I thought you were just saying funny words and I was like, puzzi. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Whatever. So, Reagan's mom takes her to get to get to get to get th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thus thus thus thus thus thus thi th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th th th th th th th this is not this is not this is not this is not this is not this is this is this is this is this is this this this this this is this this this is this is this is th. The MRI scene? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:07 Also, I have a fun fact about that scene, but you can go first. I was just going to say that I thought that was the most horrific part of the entire film. 100%. Oh yeah. There's a young man who's working in thatician. Yeah. He's a real life serial killer. What? Yeah, real life serial killer. If you watch that scene, there's a guy who's like helping out the doctor and he's like a white guy maybe in his 20s and has a beard. He was a serial killer in the 70s who killed a bunch of gay men. He would like go to clubs, seduce them, bring them were like filming there and they were
Starting point is 00:25:46 like, oh you you just come in and work the equipment like you normally would or whatever, straight up serial killer. Where did you find that out? Um, the my favorite murder podcast, too? Oh, nice. Which I just started listening to. Yeah, I'm feel like we should give other podcast type too. You know what I mean? Like, they need listeners too. Yeah, my favorite murder is really hurting for listening.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Yeah, it's just like, I wish they would like just do well as us. Yeah, I wish they could do like 3,000 Cedar theaters and sell them out every night. Just like us. Well, go fuck them. People love serial killer podcast. I know th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thu thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi' thi' thate thate thate thate thate thate thatu. I thi. theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat killer podcast. I know, we really hit the wrong niche. Stupid. What else can we do sports maybe? Oh yeah, I'd be real good at that. Now what now?
Starting point is 00:26:33 Now who now? They did what now? So yeah, these terrified, like the MRI, the x-ray that she has to get done? I don't know, is that she's like, p-choo-chee, ptchie, tip. Yeah, that's an MRI, I think. Oh, it's so insane. Also, is that a spinal tap what they're doing to her neck? I have a spinal tap was in your back. Oh, I don't know. I've always assumed it was a spinal tap tells the doctor to go fuck himself
Starting point is 00:27:07 Then she tells that room full of doctors to go fuck themselves. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's what it was That's like the most expensive room ever You know like 50 doctors in that room. Oh no when Reagan does it when they're like when they're trying to do the spinal tap on her and she's like, oh right. Oh, oh, oh, the the the they. Oh, they, they, they's, they's, they's, they's, they's, they's, they. Oh, they's, they. Oh, they's, they. Oh, their. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, the, the, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, their, their, their, their. fuck yourselves. Okay, yeah, I'm getting all the parts where she swears and does weird shit confused. It's most of Act 2 and all of Act 3. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I had some thoughts on that scene. I mean, their sceauilet that's sown, the mother is swearing at the room full of doctors. We're not quite, we're not quite, we're not quite, we're not quite, we're not quite, we're not quite, we're not quite, we're not quite, we're th, we're th, we're th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. It, th. It, th. We're, th. We're, th. It's, th. It's that, thi, thi, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It, th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th th th that, th thr. thrown. thrown. to to th th thro to thro th thro thi thi. thro thi. thi. thi. thi. So one thing about that scene, I mean there's just like little things that you notice because
Starting point is 00:27:45 you're, I don't know, I pay attention to weird little stuff. So they talk about the possible medical stuff and then he recommends the exorcism. Yeah. But when he's doing it, he kind of like smirks. And then I think one of the other doctors, it kind of cuts to a close up in in in in in in in their up up and to up up and to up up up and to up.. And to to to to to to their. And to to to to their, their, their, their, their, their, to, their, their, to, to, their, their, th one of the other doctors, it kind of cuts to a close up in there, kind of smirking too. And I was just like, why, like, are you, this person just screamed at all of you and you're making a joke basically, or else like laughing about this thing and it wasn't intentional? It was a very weird kind of moment that I got pulled out of the movie where they kind of he kind of makes us, he kind of smiles a little bit like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, a kind of smiles a little bit like it's a joke, but it's like a very serious situation. I'm sure the hourly wages of all of those doctors in that room.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Yeah, they're hourly. Like, how much it would cost to put all those doctors in a room for an hour, half an hour, whatever was like in the hundreds of thousands of dollars or whatever. Yeah, but as soon as they find a new director for movie about protest, she's going to be raking into big money to be able to pay for this. Her funds seem limitless. It was just a weird moment where I was like, why are they smiling about this? I mean, they're recommending it, but then they're also like, kind of... Are they supposed to be maybe nervous about what they're doing?
Starting point is 00:28:59 Like, oh, ah, ah, ah. I don't know. I got that sense at first, but then he kind of like says it, and he's like, does a little smile when I was just thrown off by that. Is it because he keeps elbow nudging the guy next swimming on, huh? Ha, huh? Oh, wait, is that in the extended version? I did? I watched where the the the theatrical cut. thinkinkinkinkinkinkink, th, th, th, th, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thatrical cutatrical cutatrical that, that, thatrical thatrical that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, thatrater, thatr, thatr, thatr, thatr, thatr, thatr, thatr, thatr, thatr, that, that, teat, teat, t.... ttttttttttttttttttttttttha., tttttha., tha, that, that, that, that, that, the theatrical cut because I think it's a tighter film than the extended. Like, you asked where the spider walk was.
Starting point is 00:29:28 Oh yeah, we were gonna discuss that. And the spider walk was actually like right after the she pees on the floor scene, she comes like after everyone's gone to bed, there's just a shot of her crawling down the steps. And they took it out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out out thoi thoi thoi tho' tho' tho' tho' tho' the the th. the the the the the the th. the the the the th. th. the the sp-I the sp-I the sp-I the sp-I the sp-I the sp-I. Like that makes a lot of sense I had just assumed that was much later in the film. Yeah like a post credit sequence of just bahah but like yeah we're just it they was deemed too scary is that not true? Maybe I know that when they put it all back out in 2000 with all that stuff back in they were like the most terrifying the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the the most the the most the the most the the the the most the the the most the the most the the the most the the most the the the the the most the the most the the the the their. their. I. the the the the the the t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. te. te. te. the. that stuff back in, they were like, the most terrifying movie ever got more terrifying er. You're gonna shit yourselves. This to me is not the scariest movie. No? No, the The Shining. I wish we
Starting point is 00:30:16 hadn't already done The Shining so we could have forced it just to watch the Shining. Oh. That's what I was really hoping to do with you all, but that's my next outing in the horror film world is to watch that. Great. Let us know how you like it. I might never talk to again, I don't know. It's not on us. You're the one doing it. We'll have you back for a quick recap of your thoughts.
Starting point is 00:30:36 Hey, just shining, a little, a little stinger at the end of the next episode. Now everything just goes to shit. Reagan is full-blown possessed, he's screaming and cursing and doing the worst stuff ever. Do we need to get into the worst stuff ever? Can we just let it go? We can let it go. All right, you guys know what it is? You've seen the movie. Well, just suffice to say, Miss I was like, because we were talking
Starting point is 00:31:06 about the movie and and about like how like upset like all these people were like were like you can't make this movie. Yeah. Like, I'll just, there's a 12 year old girl masturbating with a crucifix. And like when this scene happens, because I don't think you know what masturbating is. Yeah, that's like masturbating is some Judy Blume shit. This is not that. Yeah, it gets- It's not, are you there, God, it's me, Reagan.
Starting point is 00:31:33 It's really fucked. Also, we just said we weren't gonna talk about it. And here we are. Because you know some guy at home is like, oh, you're not even going to talk about it. Surprised you guys didn't talk about that soon. Well, now we are. Yeah, we need to go like, yeah, no further. But it's like, the shit just like goes from like, oh man, this is fucked out.
Starting point is 00:31:53 The bed's bouncing around too. Oh, fuck. This is where you would lock your to kid in house and leave. Yeah, you start over. New life, new house. Get a replacement kid, try again. Hedges, as a non-horer movie man, how did that scene sit with you? Um, you, oh, I was not expecting it. I didn't, there's parts of this movie that I know about, like I know about the Spiderwalk,
Starting point is 00:32:28 which I guess isn't part of the actual original movie, but, and like the stairs, like the shots of the stairs are very famous, talked about in my intro to film class actually when I was a freshman, and just a lot of the cinematography stuff. And you know, some of the scenes, I was not th, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, a the the the the scenes I was not aware of this scene I had never heard about it before and it was that was the moment at which I was like the anxiety reached its peak and then like kept going up. Off the chart of anxiety. And I'm glad that it kind of it like happens very quickly which is good for me at least.
Starting point is 00:33:01 Yeah. I'm glad that it would not go further or longer than that. But that was definitely the moment at which I was like, fuck. And that's the scene where Ellen Bursting got like permanent spine damage from. Because when she gets yanked backwards, I think that's that scene. Maybe it's a later scene. She gets like yanked backwards at one point, like thrown up against a wall. And they had her on a harness and some guy was pulling on a rope and they did it like 50 times in a row. When they could have a body double for that lady? She's an actress.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Because William Freak is a fucking lunatic. I'll prove my point on that with my anecdote, the priest, theus, when he goes up to do last rights for him, the priest couldn't cry. And he's like, I just can't do it. I'm not an actor, he's an actual priest. And William Freakins like, oh cool, you can't cry, smaks him across the face and goes, rolling. And the guy was just like, uh, uh, and like so. Because he just got punched in the face. Because William Freak is a monster. Is that the director?
Starting point is 00:34:09 Yeah. Or director of the French connection. I have so few reference points for movies or anything. to anything pop culture, so. I thought you were a big movie guy for some reason. I just don't know like facts and people. Scenes or scripts. I just stare at the screen and let it happen.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Now movies... That's the way to do it, really? There's those things with pages and numbers and words in them? Is that a movie? No, I couldn't tell you. Talking about Wikipedia? But she, yeah, I mean, doesn't she get slapped? I don't, I couldn't figure out who slapped her. Was it Reagan that slaps her? Her mother? Yeah. Yes. Well, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because she gets slaps and like flies across the room. I just couldn't tell. It was hard
Starting point is 00:34:58 to tell based on the editing of it who actually did that. I mean, I would assume it was Reagan. I was that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the that that that th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th. th th. th th. the the the. the. that that that that that that that that that that that that that to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. to the. to the. I the. I the. I mean, I would assume it was Reagan, but... What if it was one of the other people, the board of the priests, just like... Sharon, just punches her fucking Sharon. You see Sharon steamrolling up and steps and knocking her back. Right a horse. Those scenes, though, of like Reagan in bed, being tied up and looking horrible, yeah. Made me think that I need to start vomiting as an answer to annoying questions. Father Karas is like, well what's my mother's maiden name? And she's like,
Starting point is 00:35:34 fucking perfect. Fucking perfect. How gross is that vomit? When someone's like, how's your baby sleeping? I'm gonna just be like, BAH! You're gonna edit that down so I'm not just screaming. How would I edit that down to- Yeah, did you use a little thing that makes me not go- B-Buh! I don't think you can change the volume of it. I can't change the volume of it. be fine. Ahhhh. So you're just going to carry a pea soup? No, I'm just going to bar ful.
Starting point is 00:36:08 You're just going to eat pea soup all the time. Yeah, just and just in her bones. Fun fact about me, I've never had pea soup because of this movie. Is that what it is? It's pea soup and oatmeal. Yeah. To give it, it's, it's staying thouwre. You use that sound to also mean vagina a lot of the time. Not by coincidence. Because oatmeal and vaginas are one and the same.
Starting point is 00:36:38 It's sort of my smurf I just throw it in there when I need a word. Just a word. So the, Reagan keeps speaking in Father Karas' mother's voice. You just looked at me, should I do it or no? You looked at me so excited. Can I do it? Can I do it? Is this past the point where Burke is killed? Oh, yeah, we didn't talk about Burke's death.
Starting point is 00:37:07 Yeah, Burke got tossed out a window. But we've been shown that he's a drunk, so he could have just fallen as the way they're thinking about it at that point. Right. Right. Right. Until the best detective in this movie? He does have my favorite line, which is so stupid. What is it?
Starting point is 00:37:27 But when the priest is like, do people tell you you look like Paul Newman, and he just says always, like, always? There's not even a pause, he's like always. That's one of my favorite lines. I don't know why I was. Did you like when he told Dimmie that he looks like Salmene, Sal didn't even know what he's talking about. You never saw a rebel thought of cause. Isn't that Salmino?
Starting point is 00:37:48 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was like if he had sent you something. I'd be like, oh yeah, I knew who that is. You look like a guy who's going to come out in, I don't know, six, seven years? You're gonna go the distance. I love old dudes just immediately shit-talking each other relationship. Like, hey, we just met.
Starting point is 00:38:09 I'm just gonna start fucking with you right now. Let's see where this goes. Is that how people really talk, dudes? At least in movies in the 70s. Wasn't alive, don't know. No way to find out what happened earlier. We start to think that Reagan killed Burke. Because his head has been turned all the way around. Right, all the way around.
Starting point is 00:38:29 I like that. And her mother is like, oh God, she definitely threw him out on steps, which is a terrible thing for a mother to realize about her child. So they call in an exorcist. Like the whole time Father Carrase is is is is is is is is is theirisisis-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-F-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-f-in, th-in, thii, thi, thi, thi, the the the thi, the the thi, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi-in. thi-in. thi-in. thi-nit-n't-n't-nit-nit-n't-nit-nit-nit-njahahease-nit-nit-nit-nit-nit-nit-nit-nit-ism, it's awful and they don't do them anymore. You can't get approval anyway, paperwork and bureaucracy and files and folders. And then he goes to like whatever the church head guy's name is and just walked in, he's like, you know, I need an exorcism, he's like, all right, well let me get this old guy. He's like, get the exorcist on the horn. No one one one one one one one no one no one no one no one's. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. th. Starting point is 00:39:09 it's gonna happen. They'll never, like, it doesn't even exist anymore and everything. And then it's like, that scene is like, you're saying Katie, it's like, which one are we gonna get? What? Yeah, that's a weird disconnect in this movie, and I don't understand why they didn't correct that. I don't know. Is it because her evidence is so striking? I think so. And she ticked all the boxes of speaking in a language she doesn't know and knowing information she couldn't possibly know. And having the word help me appear on her stomach. How upsetting is that scene though?
Starting point is 00:39:39 No. That's fine. I guess it it it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's one of those scenes that's just been in every other horror movie at this point? For me it was like I didn't know what Sharon was going to show him and she starts taking like opening her clothes after the scene like the scene we talked about that we weren't going to talk about. I was like what is she going to show him? Like what is going to happen here? Is this the part where it gets really fucked? And then it was like th th th th th th th I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thus thus thus thus thi thus thus thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi th. I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi here, is this the part where it gets really fucked? And then it was like super creepy and I thought really well done. But I just was not sure what, like I wasn't, I guess I haven't watched enough movies to be expecting that to be the thing, but. You were just filled with a sense of dread in general. Yeah, anxious until the last five minutes, the entire time. Oh, it soundsthis movie really did what it was supposed to do for you, Hedgeman.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Yep. I did not have any nightmares about it, which was very surprising. So good. Yet. Yet, I'm sure in two weeks or three weeks, nonstop. So this, the exorcism's going along, it's going really well. They're throwing holy water on her. She's not liking it.
Starting point is 00:40:48 She's spitting pea soup on everybody. Father Marin who has a heart condition and keep striking taking nitroglycerin pills. What? Is that what that was supposed to be? It wasn't, I wasn't clear on what the action was. Oh, yeah. Fliction and or the medicine was supposed to be yeah he has a weak heart okay is the implication I guess
Starting point is 00:41:10 that was like a a thing back in the day that you took the nitriclycerin to keep your heart beating I don't know what nitriclycer and it's the stuff they make dynamite out of that's okay yeah yeah yeah why would you why would that make your heart go? Medicine? Interesting. We start our medical podcast. I'll be here. Like the McElroy's already doing that, those assholes. I mean, one theme throughout this is how fucked up medicine is. That's, uh, sure.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Yeah, think about how far we've come with medicine since then. Yeah. Was this all realistic? to the time the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. theat, theat, the. Yeah, theat, that. thia. thi. thi. thi. thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. then. Yeah. Was this all realistic to the time period? I just felt like a lot of the tests and everything were meant to be like anxiety-inducing and really upsetting in kind of parallel with what Reagan is going through and her mother and everything. I wasn't sure if it was like actually accurate. I mean, I think that that was how MRI machines were. I don't think you would necessarily be crying and sweating the way the way the way the way the waythat that was how MRI machines were. I don't think you
Starting point is 00:42:05 would necessarily be crying and sweating the way that Reagan is during it, but I mean I think that's literally what it was. Yeah and I think they chose like the the most upsetting test to give her like. Sure. So then Father Caris has like worn out from the exercising so he goes and sits down for a little while and Father Marin goes in to take over and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and the th and the th and their th and their th. th. th. th. the the the the the the really the's the's thi. the' the' the' the' the' the' the's the's the's th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th. th. th. th. the is actually really really really really really really really really while and Father Marin goes in to take over and then while Father Carrius has gone, Reagan kills Father Marin. Oh wait, before that is the head turning around scene. Yeah, yeah, Hedges, tell me your thoughts on the head turning around scene. So I think I was kind of anticipating it after the like description of Burke being having had his head turned around.
Starting point is 00:42:47 But and I think one thing for me with movies from a time period before CGI and all that stuff, which I love like I love practical effects. It was super super well done. Amazing. Yeah, Dick Smith. Dixmith. Dix Smith. Dick Smith. Dick sniff. it? Did you say Dick Sniff? Dick Smith? Dick sniff. Well, I don't know. Yeah, that was, it was top three creepy moments in the film for sure. Although, is this around the time that she is levitating above the bed?
Starting point is 00:43:19 Yeah, it's around that time, yeah. Okay. Because I did see the strings when she was kind of levitating. I was like, damn it. You're not supposed to look for them. See that. It was like towards the end of that scene. And I was just like, damn it, I saw the strings.
Starting point is 00:43:32 But yeah, I mean, just a general, like the head turning around and all that stuff is awesome. And her makeup is great. Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Especially the eyes. Like I think the eyes were like just the part that, I don't know. Oh and them shit's are like super painful back of the day. They weren't like nice contacts like we have now. It was like hard things that idea? You know? God, makeup effects used to be so brutal. Like, fun fact about that, uh, the head turning around scene,
Starting point is 00:44:07 the guy who wrote the book, William Peter Blatty, when he saw the movie and saw the head turning around scene, he was like, don't you? Don't you think that's a bit much to William Friedkin? And Freakin was like, yeah, it's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, th. th. th. th. th, th, th, the th, the thi, tho, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th. that, that, that, the, theeeat, thro-to-to-to-to-to-turning, to-to-to-to-to-too, th. the part where he was like, that's a bit much. He just thought it was like too campy or something. It's just like, and Freak was like, yeah, totally, let's do this. So after Father Marin dies is when Karas freaks out and he starts punching the shit out of Reagan, throws it on the floor?
Starting point is 00:44:40 Yeah, really hits her a lot. Not that she doesn't have a coming, being a demon and all. And we've established that he's a boxer. Oh, right. I didn't even think of that. Neither. Like all of the scenes leading up to that were important for that reason, and totally didn't even think about it.
Starting point is 00:45:00 I thought he just liked to work out and run super fucking fast around that track. He is booking it. With a towel around his neck the whole time. Yeah, he's doing it. There's a scene in an episode of the X-Files where Mulder is running around a track wearing a Georgetown sweatshirt and like Deep Throat is sitting in the, um, in the bleachers. And the bleachers. And thanks, I that's, I's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that, that, that, that, that, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, the their, their, their, their, their, the their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, to. Yeah, tape. Yeah, tape. Yeah, tape. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, their. Yeah, that's beautiful. Yeah. Thanks, Chris Carter. And this is the scene, like, I find like the most emotional in the movie, where Father Carus like just starts yelling at the demon to come into him and leave the girl alone. And then the demon does. And he jumps out a window. Yeah, he has that moment, he's like the demon for a second and that moment of clarity and throws himself out the window. It's so sad. Yeah. Deemie. One thing I love about that is that like in both cases with Burke and Caress, they could have
Starting point is 00:45:54 just fallen out that window and probably like landed on their neck and been dead, but they had to go all the way down the stairs. It's just like... It's like really far that window kind of isn't anywhere near the steps. It's like really far back from them. So you really have to... Yeah. Or throw.
Starting point is 00:46:14 I was gonna reference the only diver that I know. And I was like going to say you got a Greg Luganis that shit and really get over there. There has to be a more recent professional diver that someone knows about. I th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It's th. It's th. It's th really really really really really th. I think most people know Greg Luganis though. Yeah you'd really have to dive out that window though. Yeah you guys ever been to those steps? No. I've been I've walked on those steps. It's pretty cool. Are they in actual Georgetown? Yep. Yeah. Yeah they're they are. Yeah. Yeah they they're they're they they they they they they they are. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They they are they are they are. Yeah. They're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But they're both, it was filmed in Georgetown, they're both, yeah. The magic of film, ladies and gentlemen. That's what it is. That's what they might say things when they say things.
Starting point is 00:46:53 Putting things that don't exist together. Together. And then we get that one, the last scene is the father, dire, like crying over father carous and giving him last rights. And then... Oh, this is the catch-up scene. Oh, yeah, there's the other scene. Driving into the sunset scene. Where we see that Reagan is no longer a demon, and they're moving. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:14 And they're just putting everything under sheets. So as you do when you move. And leaving Sharon behind because she's the demon. She did it. Yeah, she did it. I don't know if she's the demon or she caused the demon. I had to think about it. It's Sharon's fault. I should have considered this before I did a podcast about it. You gotta get your magic Sharon theory together. So you're really figuring this out? Blue Sharon. Blue Sharon. Oh, that's a deep. theer Sharon. Oh, that's a deep. th. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. Blue. No, I want you to tell me about it, because I'm not going to do that. It's just this stupid thing where in certain scenes of Star Wars, Luke Skywalker is taller than he is in other ones. And it's this very, very, very in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-it-I-it-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-Ivvue. I'm thi. Starting point is 00:48:07 theory about how, like, if you look at certain scenes where he is relative to other people and other objects, there's a bigger Luke and a smaller Luke, and I don't know. They existed at the same time. Oh no, we're even looking at the same scenes. Oh no, we're looking in the same universe. It's not handy changing in the series.
Starting point is 00:48:28 No, no, no, there's two of them. That's dumb as hell. I've never even seen that movie. It's so stupid. I thought you had seen a Star War. Oh, I saw the way. We saw it. We're the. Yeah. I saw the other person on too. No. No, we're leaving. Is this your show?
Starting point is 00:48:46 No. We're leaving in where we're telling you that we're leaving it. So this is where Chris gives Father Dyer the charm that fell off of Father Carus. Mm-hmm. Who grabbed the charm off of Father Harris? Is it Reagan? I think it was just in the room. Okay, because it kind of there's a scene, I mean when it's happening it kind of gets pulled out from underneath his whatever he's wearing. Oh yeah it must have
Starting point is 00:49:13 been Reagan while they were tussling. Okay, yeah. There's a lot of that like I'm not sure who did what in this movie but that's fine not important. So that's the exorcist. So ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex ex. So that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's fine. So, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. So, th. So, thi. So, the the the the. the the the. the. the. the. that's fine. that's fine. that's fine. that's fine. So, that's fine. So, that's that's that's the exorcist. There were sequels? Oh yeah. I'm never seen a sequel. Three is really fun, directed by the guy who wrote the original book, William Peter Blatty. Two is abysmal. It kind of picks up right after the snow. It's to the prequel. I think Reagan, I believe just from looking at the IMDB,
Starting point is 00:49:43 the actress that plays Reagan re- Prizes her role in the second one, which I'm curious of just generally curious. I'm not going to watch it. Like what that actually meant. I mean, Linda Blair. Yeah, I saw the second one when I was really young. I don't remember. I just remember it was not good. It's superior film taste even back then. Same. I do want to mention the, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I to mention to mention to mention the, I, I, I, I to mention to mention to to the, I'm just just just just just just just to to to to to to to to to the the the, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. I had superior film taste even back then. Same. I do want to mention the, before we go on to the rating phase, the actress who did her voice is named Mercedes-McCambridge.
Starting point is 00:50:16 Which is an amazing name. Yes. Which was what I was going to put out, but originally she was not credited and there's like a controversy whether or not she said I don't want to be credited, or and they wanted the focus to be on Linda Blair's performance, or if Friedkin was just like a shitty dude and didn't give her props, but she eventually sued and got her name put on to it.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Yeah, good. But she was a former alcoholic, and like she was a voice actor, and she was an alcoholic who had like gotten clean, stopped smoking, and like found God. But when they went to her and were like, hey, we need you to do this to do this, she's like, okay, I need this much booze, this many cigarettes, and I need two priests with me at all times.
Starting point is 00:50:58 Whoa. Because she had to fuck her voice up. Yeah. And so she did that and then like she would do like four hours of recording and go and lay down and these priests would pray over the entire time. Geez, talk about weird religious shit. Exactly. Like that's almost weird in the movie it's. Yeah, I want to see that movie. So when you say it's the voice, it's the demon voice. What if it was just a little girl. th. It was, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. thi, the the, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. the, the, the, the the the the the, the the the the, the the the the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to, to to thi, theeea, thi, the th Linda Blair said to like the demon all the time?
Starting point is 00:51:25 I was, I was, I was, I'm gonna go right off. One of my big questions about this movie and it kind of happens with most child actors who are in movies like this is like how, what happens with you after you've done this? Linda Blair is actually, um, she does an animal rescue now. I can't remember the name of it, but she like, thresresresres rescies, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to to to to to to to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to go, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the is actually, she does an animal rescue now and I can't remember the name of it but she like rescues dogs and stuff and that's what she's focused. She's always loved animals and that's what she focused. She had a cameo in something that we did I remember she was like a reporter and something was it scream? Yep I looked at her right. I don't actually know that I just saw it. You're right. Yeah she's she's been in a bunch she was in a the the the the the the the th. She was in a th. She was in a th. She was in a the the th. She was in a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the to. to. the to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the 't actually know that. I just saw it. You're right. Yeah, she's been in a bunch, she was in a bunch of movies and did like, but like I don't think her life was very good for a long time. Um, because getting that fame, like this movie was gigantic.
Starting point is 00:52:16 I mean, we often joke about, I mean, I often joke about movies that we do winning Academy awards. This one won Academy Awards. It was nominated for best pictures. The first horror movie film, horror movie film, as we talk about, horror movie film to be nominated for best picture. Oh really? I didn't realize it was the first one. But it did win awards. It won like best sound mixing and like best screen play to be something something, something. And it got panned when it came out like a, oh really? By a bunch of reviewers were just like, this is garbage. Like, why would I even watch this? It's really not garbage. And then like, it costs like $12 million to make and then grossed a butt billion dollars. It's the highest grossing horror film of all time.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Yeah. Yeah. And you said, Titanic, and I was like, wait, isn't Jaws? And you said Titanic, and I was like, oh yeah, Jaws. No, wait, maybe it is. Maybe Jaws is higher, let me check. But if it's not number one, it's number two for sure. Like, it's just, like, and that was when movie. Yeah. So like, the amount of money that this thing pulled in was crazy town.
Starting point is 00:53:26 Come come, my lady. So Katie, do you want to move on to the... Ratings face. It's so good. No. Dimmie. Hedges. Do you want to go first, Hedges?
Starting point is 00:53:48 Or do you want one of us to go first? I'd rather one of you go first. Okay, I'm done, I'm done. I'm done. I'm done. Do you like say, do you want to do this voice? And I'll do it until it's not funny anymore. How's that? Well, you better keep going.
Starting point is 00:54:02 I'm still laughing. Hedges. I would probably actually laugh every time you say my name in that voice. So this could be a three hours long. Thanks. Here comes the nightmares. Just Katie going, hurt her. I actually like Allen's version too. Yeah it was better. No. Can youatings face? Ratings face. Okay, now you say it. It's just fucking Batman. Percy. Now you say ratings phase.
Starting point is 00:54:32 Wait, in the demon voice? Yeah. Yeah. Ratings face. You sound like an old West Sheriff. You all come down for the ratings face. Oh, them civvies looking at it coming out to my saloon. He's just going to go into a Civil War General if we don't start the ratings face. Oh, it's your high ground! That's what it is, it's the high ground.
Starting point is 00:55:01 High ground. Devil to pay. Jesus. That's a reference that will be gotten by no one who looks like to pay. Devil to pay. Jesus. That's a reference that will be gotten by no one who listens to this podcast. What are you talking about? Gettysburg was an amazing film. Yeah, I'll rate this movie. This is a classic. It's a classic.
Starting point is 00:55:18 It's a classic. It's a, like, of the movies we do are 85 minutes and I'm tearing my hair out by the end. This movie uses I think pretty much every minute wisely, except possibly that Iraq stuff at the beginning because it's kind of like, I don't know, I just, I'm not buying it. Um, uh, give it a 10. Yeah. Tenzo. Oh. Tenzo. That's my reigning. Tenzo. It's up there with there with with with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with there with their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their theiring theiring theiring theiring thiring thiring thiring thing theiring theiring their their their their their their I their I their I their I their I their I their. I'm te. I'm te. I'm te. I tO. TENZO. That's my rating. TENZO. It's up there with Child's Play 2. Your other 10.
Starting point is 00:55:50 I feel like I give something else a 10 also. You have, but I don't remember what it was. Emily, what was it? Oh, god damn it. Whatever, I mean, I feel like I should have given Childs Play 2 a 10 and a half because it's like nothing can touch it for me. Nothing compares to you. Childs play too? Nothing compares.
Starting point is 00:56:11 I can just like a muffin. Hedges give me your rating. Can I give my reasoning for it before? Yeah, I want to hear like what you thought about it. This was our experiment and we're not doing a very good data collecting job. We're not scientists. So this is, going into it, I was expecting it. And this is kind of a thing I've been thinking about is, you know, it's a classic so
Starting point is 00:56:38 that obviously plays into it. And I know about it from kind of a filmmaking perspective. It's of the era of things that I look up to a lot. And there's a lot of famous scenes in it and then just cinematography that's kind of been something I've known about for a while. And just never really had the inkling to actually watch it. So I'm really glad that I got the opportunity to do that. But I think just even as a, not even with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror with the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, the horror, a little bit here, but I would give it as a film. I would give it. I, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the the, the, the the the the the, the, the the the the the, the the the the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, th. the th. the tho. the the to. the to. the the the to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th outside and then like the ones all the way down to Reagan. I'm rambling a little bit here, but I would give it as a film. I would give it a 10, if I could give it higher I would. Oh, you can give it whatever you want.
Starting point is 00:57:34 You can give it a fucking hand turkey. No, no, I mean, like, I just thought it was so well done and well paced. Didn't feel like two hours. It felt, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, they. th, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, they. thi, tho, they. they. they. I they. I they. I they. I was, I was, I they. I was, I would, I would, I would, I would, I they. I they. I they. I, I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi, I was the thi, I was thi, I was thi, thi, thi. I'm, toge. I'm, toge. I'm, toge. I'm, toge. I would, toge. I would, I would, I would, I would, I would th hours. It felt like, you know, it was over before I thought it was, it wouldn't be over. I mean, I was looking at the time stamp, so I knew that it would be over soon, but it definitely was like... I mean, I mean, I was counting on the minutes to the end, but... Not coming on the minutes, but like the anxiety associated from when is this going to let up? When am I going to get a the the the the the the the the the the to be, to be, to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get a to get a to get a to get a to be to be to be to be to be to be the the to be the to be.a.a. thi. thi. thi. the thi. the to be over. to be over. I was, to be over. I was, ti.s, ti.a, ti.a, ti.a, ti., ti., ti., the time, the time, the time, the the the the the to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be, to be to be to be ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. tia. tia. tia. I was, tia. tia. tia. I was,to get a chance to kind of relax and like take this all in? And I was like, I kind of wish this movie was another half hour longer because there's a lot more stuff that you know to do with this world that they created.
Starting point is 00:58:13 So I would definitely give it a solid ten as well as just a film. I don't know how to rate it as a horror film because I don't really know the Uber very well, but like this is a classic movie that I've never seen and I'm glad that I saw, so. Did it scare you? Oh yeah, I mean, I think maybe I was a winning horror film. I did turn on, I turn, I started with the lights off and then I was like I can't do this, so I had to turn the lights on. Because I'm a big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby. But it was, I did not cry.
Starting point is 00:58:45 I didn't cry. I didn't cry, so there was, I don't know how to read it that way, but yeah, no, the scene with the crucifix was like, I don't even know. I was not prepared for that. And it was just, it happened so quickly that I was like, I don't know if I can handle the rest of this movie. That was a point where I was like, I'm not sure sure tha that that that that that that that that that thi that thi that that thi that thi thi thi thi thi thi that thi thi that thi thi thi that thi that that that that that that that thi thi thi that's that's that's that's that's that that to to to to to that th. that th. th. that that th. th. that that th. th. th. th. th. th. that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi that's thi that's that's that's thi. that's that thi. that that that thi that that that that that the. that that thi thi thi thi thi thi thi don't know if I can handle the rest of this movie. That was the point where I was like, I'm not sure if I'm going to finish this, but I kind of stuck it out. And I think that's the great thing about it, is the pacing of it is so great that there's these moments where that kind of thing happens, and then it kind of comes back to insanity of the situation. So. Are you jealous that he got the scare dragon? Yeah. He chased him down.
Starting point is 00:59:29 Yeah. I mean, the last time I felt anything even close to the scare dragon was in the mouth of madness. And it was like, what? And actually somebody, a friend of the podcast, Chris texted me after. He was like, I guess. And he was earnest about it. Wait, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the the the, the, the the the the, th, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. too too tea. tea. tea. tea. thea, thea, thi, thi, thi, the reasons I think in the mouth of Madness scared you. And I was like, I guess. And he was earnest about it. Wait, I don't think I've listened to whatever.
Starting point is 00:59:49 It was like, was it the first one back that we did? Yeah, it was the first one back. I hadn't watched a horror movie in like four months from my maternity leave from the podcast. And I watched it, thi. And I th, and I th, and I th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thin, I don't thin, I don't, I don't th, I don't th, I don't thin, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't thin, I don't th, I don't th, I don't th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thin, I thin, I don't, I don't, I don't, I like ran up my stairs holding the baby like, ah! It is not a scary movie. It's very goofy. It's so silly. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:12 It's fucking scary. Yeah. No, this is a scary movie, but in the mouth of madness, scared me more. Why? Well, I think there's also just the buildup of it. Like this is one of, I don't know where you would rank this, but like one of the top three or five horror movies of all time. Oh, yeah, for sure. You know, there's a lot of hype behind it and there's a lot of just pop culture sort of
Starting point is 01:00:36 around, like it's kind of it, which I think was a good balance. Yeah, yeah, no, it is, it is the, it is the zenith of horror movies, like, it's up at the top. Yeah. This movie's a 10. You guys know why, it's amazing. It's the best for all the reasons that everyone just said, and because it's one of the movies that I saw when I was that I was that I was young, I was young that scared the living shit out of me. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:03 It's so great. And I'm not even like, and I haven't been religious my entire life almost. And it's still like, shit got to me. I don't want to be possessed by no demon. No. No, I definitely, even as a person who grew up Catholic, I mean I related like to plug? Uh, it's okay if the answer is then.
Starting point is 01:01:33 I don't, I don't think so. Just, if you think I'm mildly entertaining in any way, shape or form, I'm on Twitter, at the hedges. Oh, yeah, I like it. Tweeted up dog.
