Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Katie. Hi Alan. Do you watch that documentary about that 90s wrestling team from the W.W.B. Tell me more. It's called The Brute? No. Tell me about it. Apparently in the 90s there was a cadre of wrestling vampires that called themselves the brood. I have no memory of this. It was made up of Gangrel, Christian and Edge. Oh, that was past my time. They were a clan of vampires. Christian and Edge. Yeah, they went on to become very famous, I think. Oh really?
Starting point is 00:00:48 Yeah. I think one of them's still doing it. Oh, so you gotta get out there, Jabber. Get which one. Well, I mean, we should know. We just watch the documentary. Oh, sure, sure, sure. Well, that was from the documentaries then? No, there's no documentary. I'm just saying that the movie that we watched the bird was a documentary.
Starting point is 00:01:08 I thought you were telling me something I should watch and I got really excited and now I'm let down. But that's okay. My job is done. Comedy. I just ran and jumped out the window and flew away. I would do the rest of this podcast by myself I guess. Then does your house become mine or is that how that works? Yeah, yeah. It's leprecogn rule.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Um, Leap and the hood come to do no good. Oh, man. How often I think about lep and the hood come to do no good is disgusting. I highly encourage you all to go back and listen to that episode of Leper Gondonhood, because Katie does that rap and then I did a edit of her rapping at the end of it. Really? I don't remember I'll have to listen to it. Maybe I'll go download it. You should too.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Bing! Okay. The more you know. No, we're here to do a movie from the The Brude. You know my favorite thing about 70s horror movies is what? Favorite things actually? Go. Decor? Mm-hmm. Outerware. Oh yeah. So there's like Canadian. Canadian coats. And like in Dr. Howe Raglan's office, that brown leather sectional with the white rug looks incredible. It looks so good. I love it. I love I love that wallpaper in her kitchen, Grandma's kitchen. Oh yeah for sure. I love everyone's house is just climbing with plants and just shag carpeting it everywhere.
Starting point is 00:02:33 I love it. I wish it was me. The other day said to my partner I was like when shag carpet it kind of come back. I have a rug a shag rug. It's full of cat hair and baby spit. Is that cool? Yeah, that's probably why it went away. Really, yeah, I don't even know in a vacuum cleaner. I don't know what to do with this. Just throw it away every couple months going to do it. Roll it up and put it out of the curb. It's interesting that you bring up coats because the actor who stars in this film are Tyndall, I think of as being a just walking coat rack from Black Christmas. He's the coat guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He became a very old man very quickly. Right. Who wasn't he a college student in that movie? He is a middle-aged dad in this movie.
Starting point is 00:03:26 What happened to him? He saw some shit in Canada. The sports team lost and it really aged him. I couldn't think of a fucking Canadian hockey team. The Hartford Whalers. Nope, that's in America. The Winnipeg Jets? Sure, the's in America. The Winnipeg Jets? Sure, the Houston Oilers.
Starting point is 00:03:46 The Montreal Expos. They really aged him when that team lost. Yeah. The Toronto Blue Jays. Argonauts. Is that Canadian football? Montreal Poutines. Can I tell you what Roger Ebert said about this movie to set the tone?
Starting point is 00:04:03 Please. He called it a bore and disgusting in ways about this movie to set the tone? Please. He called it a bore and disgusting in ways that are not entertaining as opposed to, for example, the great disgusting moments in Alien or Dawn of the Dead. I completely disagree with Roger Ebert. I think he is wrong. And also he died, so we're right. We're the victors. We win because our opinion is that's what I've learned on their their their their their their the victors. We win because our opinion is that whoever says their opinion last is correct.
Starting point is 00:04:26 At least that's what I've learned on the internet. Either that or whoever types first first. Sure, they are always the rightest. No, this movie is fucking phenomenal. See this movie. If you haven't seen this movie, it's so bonkers, it's so silly, it's so scary. It's both literal and psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological psychological this movie. It's so bonkers. It's so silly. It's so scary. It's both literal and psychological in terms of what the monsters? It's so lantern jawed.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Oh, Oliver Reed in your lantern jaw. That man is a drunk? Oh, yeah. He didn't die in a bar. I think he died in a bar. I know that he used to get really pissed when people would bring up alcoholism on talk shows because he like notoriously like him and a couple friends drank like 60 beers and like 50 bottles of Jim Beam and like all the like one night. Whoa, like Wade Boggs. Yeah, or Andre the Giant. Yeah, great drunks, wonderful drunks. These are the drunks of history.
Starting point is 00:05:23 I always think of Oliver Reed as the dad from Tommy, the stepdad. Oh, okay. Yeah, he's like the camp dad. Oh, I mean, I haven't seen Tommy since I was just a wee little pup. You said that when you were a wee little pup? What do you think of that? What do you think of him as a wea, a we, thii? th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the thi, the thi, the th. the th. the th. the th. the th, th, the the the the th, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, the th, th.. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi? theea? toda, toda, toda, toda, toda, toda, the? th always this think of him as a, what is it, curse of the werewolf? Where he plays a wolf man and it's like, he's just so fucking barrel-chested and it's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:05:53 He is, his body and head are like a paper towel roll. He has just met his shape. He's so like, in like my reptile brain, I just look at him and go, that's a man. Yeah, he's a man. Yeah, everything about him is just, he's got giant hands. He's not particularly attractive, but he's incredibly masculine. Yeah. And like, he's very charismatic. Like when he's on screen, you definitely are watching him.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Well, in this movie he plays Dr. Hal Raglan, a controversial psychiatrist who is running a residential psychiatric facility called Soma Free, where they practice psychoplasmics. Oh yeah. Psychoplasmics, I love that. Can you describe psychoplasmics in a nutshell? Psychoplasmics is when your feelings get so extreme that they manifest as zits on your body. Those marks were not on that man a minute before. How did that happen?
Starting point is 00:06:58 He just got so mad. He got so angry about daddy. The way Psychoplasmics works is how, Dr. Howe, pretends to be whoever you're mad at and then you have a conversation with that person and then you have a scary baby. And his whole thing is that like he's egging you to get you through it. He wants you to get to the other side of the anger. I mean I guess. Having just watched what was that wild wild country Yeah, do you like that? I think it was real good.
Starting point is 00:07:27 Yeah, it was real fun. You know, sad way. Fun is not the word. Fun is not the word for something you like. It's fun. It's fun. Super fun. Like a roller coaster.
Starting point is 00:07:37 And I've been listening to the cult stuff and that's just what this felt like because it was like this beautiful wood lodge and everyone was just like geeked on this guy like yeah he's so amazing. And he has a toadie too. Oh yeah, yeah. Who looks a little like art garfunkle. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. They're like a little interchangeable. Yeah. But I liked when like he starts off yelling it as you would describe a bunco art gararfunkle. Yes, he is a bungo art garfunkel. He makes these weird pustules pop out on his body. They're doing this on stage sitting criss-crossed applesus, like knee-to-knee, nose-to-nose, having this conversation where the guy's like, Daddy, Daddy! What did you want to say to to da daddy? Please don't ever say that phrase and that voice again. But like every time he interacted with someone, no matter if he was daddy or mommy or whoever he was, it was those two.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Yeah. He was just, he just talked like this. What did you want to say to him? Yeah. Yeah. He's very, he's a very a stage, was he a stage actor? He seems like it. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I love, much later in the movie, he is playing a woman that someone is angry with. And before he goes into the scene, you can tell that he tosseled his hair a little bit.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Yeah, it's all messed up and he's like, ah, shaking his head back and forth. Whatever. What they're the thaaahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th. th, th. th. th, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tha, tha, tha, tha. tha. tha. thaaaaaaaaaaaa thaa thaa tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha, tha.'re doing this demonstration to who? Who is the audience? Are they other doctors? Is he trying to sell people? Are they crazy people? I assumed it was like other doctors and students that are like one to learn this craft is a genius. Is he? God damn it's a ripoff? I like psychoplasmatics better. Oh, what is it? Psychoplasmaticsoplasmics. Psychoplasmics. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It doesn't for me because of the band of Plasmatics, that's why I wrote that. He's got a beautiful pinky ring. We should also not. Oh I didn't notice that, but I never trust a man who's wearing a ring that isn't a wedding ring. Or like a Super Bowl ring. Or like a big skull? Maybe.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Depends on the context. Okay, okay. Yeah. Your hell's angel, probably not. I have the thrown. I have only had one scary baby. She's not scary at all. She's a goddamn treat. She has a belly button.
Starting point is 00:10:14 I love, okay, so this movie has one of my favorite horror movie troops, which is the useless cop. The cop in that scene where they realize that the creature doesn't have a, he's the art handle, what is his name is Frank? Frank. Frank, yep, Frank Carveth. Frank says it has no naval. Yeah. And the cop goes, what? And he goes, no belly button. And the cop was like, oh, one, cop did not know what naval meant two, cop didn't notice. You're a detective. Fucking detect that. Why wouldn't he have a navy? Why would this kid have a navy?
Starting point is 00:10:51 Also, when he's talking about how they were looking for the murderer in grandma's house, he's like, well, we weren't looking for anything that small. It's a human. You should notice a human regardless of size. It is the size of a five-year-old Oh, we didn't notice this kindergartener what you what? I love stupid cops in movies. They're so dumb Uh-huh. It's he was so good and he had a weird like nazely voice to it He's a very high-pitched voice. There was not much authority in it. No. He hadn't served no purpose in this movie. My notes are all over the place for this movie.
Starting point is 00:11:30 I just like intense confrontation in a short bathrobe is a kind of note that I have. So Frank it goes to confront Dr. Raglan because his wife is in treatment there and she's in the workhouse. She's a secluded in the workhouse. And they're getting divorced anyway. Right. And it seems like there's a custody issue over their five-year-old daughter, Candy. Carol Ann. Is that Carol Ann? No, but it looks like Carol Ann.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Yeah, but it looks like. Yeah, Candice. It's a very 70s name. Yeah. Did you watch this movie with subtitles on? I don't recall, maybe. I think so. Oliver reads British, so he says mummy rather than, so there was the subtitle that said, they're fucked up mummies. Fucked up mummies, yeah. What's the woman says that too, Nola?
Starting point is 00:12:17 Is she also British or she just mirroring? I think she was just just just just just just just it. Oh, geez. So we meet Nola, who is Art Hensel's wife. What? So much hair. So much hair on that element. Just feet of hair. Just like a prail ad. It's beautiful. It's so well done. I was like, you're in seclusion in the, uh, the workhouse, but they keep it up. You're getting hot rollers, you're getting out your hot rollers and you're doing it. I. I the th. I the th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. I's th. I's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. Just, the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Just, th. Just, th. Just, th. Just, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, thi. Oh, thi. Oh, the thi. Oh, the thi. the thi. th. thi. th. th. th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, but they keep it up. You're getting hot rollers. You're getting out your hot rollers and you're doing it. I have the note, Nola was covered in big ugly bumps as a child. Yes, her mother says that. Oh, that's right. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I love drunk grandma. I love drunk grandma. Drunk grandma, who's maybe like five slightly longer than knee length, wool skirt over a sweater. It just looks fantastic. I just love this. I just love this. I just love this. I just love this. I just love this. I just love this. I just love this. I just love this. We cycle thrown this things so goddame fast now. It's true. Honestly. I know, and now. I feel like feel like feel like I have the the their their then. I feel feel feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I think it already did name it. It's over. We cycle through these things so god-dame fast now. Art Hi, I go, refresh my drink. I'll refresh my drink. I'll refresh yours too.
Starting point is 00:13:31 I think the kids drinking a mountain do. As you do. And all of a sudden the laundry shoot starts shaking. Yeah. I like that. And then we see there's like spilled OJ and milk. It's just pouring from the cartons, yeah. And like, grandma walks into the hallway, here's all this stuff smashing,
Starting point is 00:13:53 and just stands there for a really long time? Just, just vacantly, like, well, could be anything, I guess. Must be the storm. It's not storming. And we see that these, like, we see this little kid with old people hands, picks up a meat tenderizer. Yeah. And when grandma meets it, comes in, he beats the shit out of her with a meat tender. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:17 Fine. Is he wearing candy's snowsuit at this point? Or a snow suit? Yeah. It's so good. And she's dead. Grandma's dead. And then Candy comes in and finds her and it's just like, huh? Everyone's non-plussed.
Starting point is 00:14:32 Yeah. No one is plus in this movie. There's a shot in the scene that I really likethen Candy sees the creature for a second. I'm sorry I keep saying the creature, but that's what it's called in the credits. It is. They're the best. Yeah. That sergeant has a weird voice.
Starting point is 00:14:52 Yeah, the cop's voice is so high-pitched. And then we meet Dr. Birken, I feel like David Cronenberg likes to bring in weirdos for just a couple of scenes. I feel like that's a constant in his movies like the lymphatic system guy. I love him. Like Bunko Jeremy Piven. I wonder if he knows he's such a great director that he's like, listen I'm gonna get this one scene out of this dude if I haven't around any longer it's gonna go south real fast only but in and out even the night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night night. to to to to to to to th. th. th. Oh th. Oh th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I feel. I feel like. I feel like. I feel like. I feel like. I feel like. I feel like. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I feel. I th. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. I'm. Yeah. th. th. I th. I feel. Yeah. I feel. I gonna go south real fast only, but in and out, thief and the night. Oh, man. So Birken thinks that Candy saw some shit,
Starting point is 00:15:31 which we can all agree she probably did. Sure. I have the note, I feel like the soundtrack doesn't give a fuck about the movie. No, it's very like, um, on, like constantly. Constantly. Just brushing my teeth? You started to tune it out after a while. You don't even notice it anymore. There's points where it sinks up really nicely, but there is so much just like, it's just over the top. It's going the entire time.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Yeah. Then we meet Jeremy Piven. Jan, not yawn. Jann, come on. Wait, you thought he looked like Jeremy Piven? I thought it looked like a weird David Cross character. Yeah, that too. With like the extreme comb over? And like leaving a gap between your hair and the rest of your hair. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Please, Mr. Pivin paid a lot of money for that hair. I'm looking up Jeremy Pivon to make sure he is who I think he is. Yes, he is. Thank God. The next note is Oliver Reed is a very kissy therapist. Kissy? Yeah, he like, when he's talking to Bunko Garfunkel, he like pulls him in and starts kissing his forehead. Oh. And then like later on, he's kissing Nola like on the head and stuff like that's an ethics issue I feel I think so I agree this is them when we meet Jan character
Starting point is 00:16:49 this is the first like Cronenberg thing we see where he pulls away his scarf and he just has like a bunch of dicks growing out of his neck it's a tiny dicks a series of turkey waddles yes because they're dicks they're dicks they're one hundred percent dicks. A series of turkey waddles. Yes. Well, they're dicks. It's grown to grow their dicks. They're dicks. They're one hundred percent dicks. And they are just growing out of his neck and he covers them with a variety of scarves. And he talks with a sing-song affect, which I really, really like. He's so, I would watch whatever movie he's making. He's talking about suing Raglan. Yes, he was a psychoplasmic patient. Who got lymphocoma from being forced to force out all of his anger onto his skin?
Starting point is 00:17:32 Oh, I get it. I thought he was just crazy. Well, that too. Sure. I love the workout regimen he's doing when we first meet him, just rolling from side to side. That's a workout I can get behind too. Like I can make time for that. I figured that was like a workout
Starting point is 00:17:51 that your baby really get down with too. Yeah, yeah, she's a big roller, love to roll. Yeah, it's good to get the blood roll. She figured out how to to talk about him. He's stupid. He serves no purpose in this movie except to die. Yeah, he gets drunk, confronts Raglan, dies. Yeah, goes to the house where his ex-wife, drunk grandma, had been killed and gets killed.
Starting point is 00:18:17 He's like laying the big on, ah, drunk, grandma, why? Why? Why? Why? But I guess what his role is is to get Frank over there and then Frank, does Frank kill the creature? How does the creature get killed where they are doing the autopsy on it? I think Frank kills it, right? Oh, let's see. Check that Wikipedia. Oh, no, he just died.
Starting point is 00:18:39 Remember, because the tank runs out. Its food sack is running out. Um, yeah, you want to take a swing in explaining that? What, so Frank comes in, Barton's being murdered by this thing and then the thing just runs out of gas and drops dead? As you do. And it's, it gets autopsy by the most, like, would you please get the fuck out of my autopsy room, Dr. Ever? I really loved him? He's not, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. Yeah, thi. thi. thi. thi. to to to ta. ta. ta. ta. to ta. to ta. thi. ta, th please get the fuck out of my autopsy room doctor ever and I really loved him? He's not at all concerned about how fucking weird this creature is. He's like, it's got a food sack, the food sack empty and it died. Like, what, how do you first, how do you know that? You've never seen this before? And second, like, why are you not? I feel like, I feel like, thii that's like, that that th th a like, th th, th, th, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, it's that, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the, it's the the the the the that, that, that, that, to to to toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-s. th. th. It'ssy, let's do this. Just go, go, go, go, go, but it's like, it's similar to a human, but it's not,
Starting point is 00:19:26 and it's like, as soon as you said that, sceaunt you're supposed to be screaming at the end of it. Right, they're just casually looking at this thing, like, well, that's interesting. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, they, they, they, they, like, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they're, they're, th. they're, they're, th. they, they're, like, they're, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, in nature. But no, no, it's a creature with no belly button and a food sack that ran out of gas. And a weird like pointy like Star Trek Next Generation alien nose as well. Yeah. Yeah, I like that a lot. Like a deep V nose.
Starting point is 00:19:56 Also like the babysitter is babysitting candy, which is entirely inappropriate and she gets a call from Nola who's losing her shit. She's so mad. She's so mad that the creatures have to go kill the teacher in front of all the students. Teacher creature? I do want to mention that when Barton's getting killed, he's being beat to death with like a snow globe or whatever it was. And the kid throws it through the wall and this kid, tho, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, throw, they. the kid, they. the the kid, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the the the the the the the the the the the the the their, their, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, thr-a. the. the. like, wow, this kid is so strong. The kid is so strong. Because the teacher and Frank are gonna fuck. Is that the competition? I think they're fucking.
Starting point is 00:20:28 I think they may have already fucked. She had a great haircut. I was into that haircut. It's very avant-garde. Yes. Like a silky helmets the murder kids to class to murder the teacher. And they take Candace with them. There's what, that scene of them walking down the road all in snow suits holding her hand is really good.
Starting point is 00:21:00 It's haunting. Yeah. But I want to focus on the scene real quick in the classroom. Yes. Because IRL, children watched a woman get fake beat to death. Yeah. And laying a pool of blood for a real long time. Yeah. Is that cool? I'm the 70s. Yeah. It's acting. But also like, they all just in film, they all just stand there and look at her, except for one kid who runs up the door, screaming,
Starting point is 00:21:30 I'm like, I'm like, I'm gonna, I love that kid. I love that kid, and they killed her, and they killed her, and she's bleeding. Luckily, our hero Frank is right there to run back in and not do anything. Not do anything. He like, he realizes that his kid is missing. They look for his kid for like a minute, and then he goes home. Well, I'm not gonna fight her now. No.
Starting point is 00:21:51 And he's just looking at a newspaper that does police seek dwarf killers. Is that okay to say? Is that okay to say? I have the note, are just the way that's the real each shoots and leaves situation. Yep. Uh, oh, man. So the creatures take candy back to the workhouse. And Frank drives up there? Am I missing something between there?
Starting point is 00:22:23 The next line, next note I have says, Frank, I've got a gun, which is what Hal says to him when he sees up there? Am I missing something between there? The next line, next note I have says, Frank, I've got a gun, which is what Hal says to him when he sees him there. Yeah, Frank drives up there. And Hal's trying to handle the situation. He's like kicked everybody out of psychoplasmics or soma-free or whatever the fuck, except for Nola. Right. Because he knows that. Is he fucking null? I mean, does it matter? I mean, I assume. But I just assume that he's a cult leader, so yes, he's fucking everybody.
Starting point is 00:22:48 He's fucking Mike? Probably. Okay, sure. Just checking. Whatever. Whatever. Whatever. What?
Starting point is 00:22:56 So Hal's going to handle this. up and like just points a gun at the town and goes, Frank, I've got a gun. Frank, I've got a gun. I've got a gun. Like, okay. Yeah, nice. All right, we're going to do this my way. You go in and console Nola and tell her that you want her back. A cool therapist's idea. And that way she won't have any anger and I'm going to go up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thin thin thin, thin, thin, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi, thi, thi, thi... And, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. And, thi. thi. thi. thi. thiiii. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. real slow while I do it though. He's so barrel, Jesse. Are they like?
Starting point is 00:23:25 He's so barrel, Justin. He is also wearing the best single-breasted like velour collar coat I've ever seen. Just a film of beautiful coats. It's just, oh my god. So he goes up there. Question. Yes.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Were the bunk beds already their they are there there tha tha tha tha tha tha's tha' tha' tha' tha' tha' tha' thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes there? Are they built for the anger monsters? The children build them for themselves, in my opinion. And every time a new one comes, they're like, oh my god, we gotta build it a bunk, a little bunk crib. So yeah, Hal just cruises into their dorm. Yep. And he, they're all wearing little sweatshirts, little hooded sweatshirts with pointy hoods? Yeah, yeah. And so is Candy. They look like the like Russian wrestling team. Yes. Tiny Russian wrestling team. Yeah. It's almost adorable. Well at one point in House like Candy is also like, Candy's also one of their children or one of like one of Nola's children as well? Sure. She's her, her real, her, how do we say this her vagina child these
Starting point is 00:24:27 other ones are her tum child her outside babies outside babies holy shit I had seen this movie like two or three times before and somehow I'd forgotten about that and when I saw it I was like oh yeah that's one way to give birth so missy and I were watching this movie oh god it's so boring what what I know I agree I agree and there's like please th thi th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th th th th th please please please please please please th th th th th th th th th the the tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the the th the the th the th the th the th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thoooooooooooooooooooooooo thoooooooooooo thoooo tho tho tho tho the tho the that's one way to give birth. So Missy and I are watching this movie and she's like, oh god, it's so boring. What's going on? What? I know, I agree. And I was like, please don't leave, because you're about to see the best thing you've ever seen in a movie. Yeah, did she think so?
Starting point is 00:24:52 No, I don't think she wasn't impressed. She was no, you don't want me back. Nobody wants me. I should go eat worms or whatever she says. Yeah, something basically. And then basically she's like, but look at this. Yeah, and she opens her robe that she's been wearing the whole time. And she got a baby on the outside, in a sack. And then like, just another one forming next to thoomomomomom. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, to, to to to to to to to to to to to be, tho, thi. to be, to be, to be, to to th. th. to th. th. to th. th. And, th. And, th. And, to to to to to to to to to to th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, to be, to be, to be, th. And, to be, th. And, th. And, th. And, toe. And, toe. And, the toe. And, toe. And, toe. And, toe. And, toe. And, toe. And, toe. And, toe. And, toe. Oh, I didn't notice that. Yeah, there's like a fetus like coming out of her stomach.
Starting point is 00:25:27 And then there's the sack. How she gets that sack open? With her mouth. She mouths that sack open. How does she clean the kid? She likes it off. Then I started thinking, like I wonder. I wonder if the fucking do that. You think? I don't
Starting point is 00:25:45 want to know. Okay well I want to know. I don't want to know. I do. That's the difference between you and me is that I'm curious. I feel like when someone explains that to you, arguing back to last week, they're gonna go, welcome to my word. Licking feet, licking babies, looking newborns. Wait, do you thi, like th. their, their, their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I's, th. I's, th. I's, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I. I. I. I. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's, th. I's, th. I's, th. I's, thi. I'm th. theeea. I'm toooo. I'm too. I'm toge. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I, do you think it's like a dula that does it? Like this is part of my service. No, I think the mother does it herself, like mammals are meant to. Because there's so much weird shit in the natural birth world. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. You got to eat that placenta. Yeah, when I had, I gave birth at a birthing center and just a kidding. They have to dispose of it.
Starting point is 00:26:25 It's a biohazard. It is a biohazard. It is an organ that you expel. I did get a look at it, though, that was cool. I probably would have taken it. It looked a lot like that sack. Oh, I'm sure. I'm sure it was an accuraterying to smother it.
Starting point is 00:26:50 It makes me mad in movies now when people hold babies inappropriately. Even outside babies? Yeah. They gotta live too. No they don't, they shouldn't. They're murder. So the kids up there. It's a nature or murder. the? Nature or murder. The kids upstairs go nuts and they kill Oliver Reed. Yeah, yeah, I like that. They just gag up on him and murder him. And then they go after candy in a super scary scene where she's like locked in a closet and she's so sad and so scared. And she's hidden behind a door made of cork. Pork candy is well look it's in the workhouse. She is not going to be okay. No she's been she's fucked for life. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:34 They're punching up the door and it's like a legit creepy ass scene like these kids are fucking terrified. The little girl actress screaming I think is legitimately terrified. I do not think she's acting. I think she's really scared. There's no way Kronenberg told her was going to happen. No, he just threw in that closet, one take, break the door, child screams. Magic. Movie magic. The 70s. Oh God. I just the idea of children swarming you is kind of terrified. Oh, I know. I feel that way at daycare sometimes. If these get the notion. Just like if they all get it in their heads together, we're in trouble. You know what I mean? I'm going to buy matching the sweatsuits for all the kids in daycare.
Starting point is 00:28:17 You're just going to walk in and gave us all these sweatsuits? Make them wear these white wigs too. No no no the hoods have to be pointy it's part of the look. So how fucking kills his wife I did not see that coming he just kills her he strangles her to death. Yeah she asked him too right? Does she? Oh which isn't, I think she's saying it in anger. Oh, because she's saying it in anger. Oh. Because she's very angry. In case you didn't notice. I assumed it was like, I can't stop doing this.
Starting point is 00:28:51 I can't stop being a murder maker? I don't think she knew they were murderers, though? Did she? It didn't seem like she was conscious of the connection that her rage made them killers. Yeah. Yeah. How cracked does your perception of reality have to be that you're like, cool, cool. I've got an outside baby.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Yeah, I've got at least 17 outside babies because they swarmed the doctor. I mean, I mean, God. So, he kills her, and then he gets candy and they get in the car, and they come home and everything's fine, right? I have to know, candy's not doing so hot. What are those bumps supposed to signify? Is her anger coming out? Oh, they're like the nipples on the guy at the beginning.
Starting point is 00:29:43 Yeah, niplesipples over his body. Bunk of Garf Uncle, yeah. So she's mad now, too. Yeah, she got the rage that's. Oh, man, I just don't know what to say about that. Oh, candy. Candy, candy. And that's the end of. That's the bird. So, what didn't Roger Eberfurtfurtenfurtenfurten, thurfurten, thurfurten, the, th the, th the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, thoo, thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Oh, th, th, th's the end of... That's the bird. The brood.
Starting point is 00:30:05 So, what did, what didn't Roger Ebert like about this? I mean, it's real gross. Is it that gross? I mean, having seen a lot of other Cronenberg movies. I mean, that's a brief scene. Yeah, I mean, the fly hadn't happened yet. And, wait, where did this fall? It's post Shivers. Shivers is a way grosser movie than this. Way grosser. On so many levels.
Starting point is 00:30:30 So many levels. I feel like this movie's just like, come on, therapy? No, that's not real. Whoa, was that your takeaway? I think this movie is about two things. I think it's about therapy not. thia. thia. thia. thia. thia. thia. thia. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. this movie is about thi. this movie is about thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiiiiiiiii. thiiiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. th therapy not being so good. I think it's being dubious about mental health. Okay. Care. I assumed it was just dubious of all those like 70s like getting back to Gaya.
Starting point is 00:30:55 Could they? You gotta get a deep dive on your brain, just go into the woods and hang out for years and figure out what your brain's doing. I guess. And have Oliver Reed pretend to be your mummy. Fucked up mummies! Fucked up mummies! Yeah, that's my new band.
Starting point is 00:31:13 Yeah, I was gonna say, can we start their game? Yeah, I mean, I'm never gonna practice and I'm never gonna play anywhere, but sure. We've got a show coming up. Yeah. That we're not going to play. No. So Katie, you want to rate the brood? Sure, I love this movie. Yes. It is so good. It is entertaining. It is weird. It has beautiful decor. It has really puffy outerware. It has creatures. It has an outside baby. It has blood. It has dead teachers. You know how I feel about that? Kill them all. Just kidding, that's not true. I didn't expect this to break so bad for the teachers.
Starting point is 00:31:49 Yeah, I like teachers, you guys are good. You're doing the Lord's work. For no money. For no money. And no respect. Yeah. But you get summers off your to get some to get-I, I I I I I I I to like, do I have rage pimples now? Do you? Do you? Do you have an ounce eye baby? Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:08 He's sleeping. I give this an eight and a half. There are very few things I could make this movie any better for me. Okay, okay. This is one of my favorite Kronenberg movies. I think this movie, the scene of the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the the thk, the, the, the, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, the, the, the, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I thi, I th, I, I th, I, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I thi, I thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thoooooooo, thoooooooooo, the, the. thoooooooooooo, and I'm, thi, the, and I think this movie, the scene of the kids walking down the street is worth the price of admission. It's so good. It says so much with so little and that's like so beautiful. I miss Crazy Cronenberg.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Like I like his newer movies, but... Name me some of his newer movies. Eastern Promises? Nah. I'm trying to think, what was the one about a history of violence? Oh, where if you go Morton Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort Mort? M Mort? M Mort? M Mort? I mo mor mor mor mor Morton? I mo mo mo mo mo? I the movie? I the movie? I the movie? I the movie? I the movie? I the movie? the movie? the movie? the movie? It's the movie? It's th? It's th? It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's th. It's th. It's th. It? It's th. It? It? It? It? It? It? It? It? It? It? th. th. th. th. th. th. th? It? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? It's? the the the the th. th. that? thoooo? thooooooo? It's like? It's like? th. thoooo? It's th. th. th. th. th.'m trying to think, what's the one about a history of violence? Oh, where Vigo Mortonson has a tail? Is that that movie? I think, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's just a brief shot of him like fucking on the stairs and he's got a tail for no reason.
Starting point is 00:32:53 Yeah. Cool, for Croninford reasons. Killer for the Russian mob and there's a scene in that movie where he fights naked in a sauna for I don't know 45 minutes with this giant dude Woodwatch yeah, you could so much Mortenson-wang in it. It's great. Really? Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. What's I called again? Eastern Promises or Vigo's Dogg. Bookmarked. It's a really fun movie. It's really good and I say fun is as and I enjoyed it because I apparently those words are interchangeable for me. Yeah, I don't think you know. I don't think you know. I'm not gonna learn now Katie. No, why would you? It's too late. This movie is a nine and a half. Whoa. Yeah, it's so much fun. I highly recommend it. Like I think I disagree with both Missy and Roger. I think it moves fast. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I don't thi. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I thi. I thi. I th I disagree with both Missy and Roger Eve, I think it moves fast. It's fucking ridiculous, like. You know I'm easily bored. And I don't find this movie to be boring. I feel like it's very, I feel like it's captivating.
Starting point is 00:33:52 You're like, what is this shit? What is this shit? Yeah. And it's like a great piece of music too. Like, that was hear, you're like, oh, that was so good. And the next time, you're like, I can't wait till we get to that part. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I love this. Oh, man. It's so fucking ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:34:08 And there's litigual things that I forget between viewings, like how strong the kids are. Yeah. And how just, oh, it's just fucking. This is a rare instance of like a thing that if I scratch the surface on it just falls apart because you can't make outside babies. No matter how angry you are. You don't know that. You don't know, look, are you a psychopathic's expert? Nobody is.
Starting point is 00:34:36 No. Dr. Howeaglin is. That's also not a real thing. It was made up for the movie. I know that. I know. Did that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. th. th. th. th. th. that's. th. th. th. th. th. that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that that that that's that that's that's that's that's that's th. thi. that's thi. I know that. I know. Did you really check? You're like, is this real? Why not? Who knows what the stupid stuff in Canada? You're right. That what was there's socialized health care or whatever? I mean Brumblefly was real, right? Mm-hmm. Okay, okay, okay, good. And so was whatever the fuck cause all that shivers? Was it a worm? I don't even remember? Was it a worm? I don't even remember now. It was a worm. That's a guy should watch that movie again. That worm even get out.
Starting point is 00:35:07 Oh, don't ask me to remember. I do not remember the genesis of that worm. It just kills those people. Well, oh well. Good job, David. You did it again. Katie. Yes. Can I take you to a little place I like to call mail bag?
