Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 206- Carrie (1976)

Episode Date: December 10, 2018

After a few weeks of the horror equivalent of junk food (except like, not even good junk food like Doritos, bad junk food like pizza with hot dogs in the crust), we decided to detox with a beautiful h...orror classic: the 1976 Brian DePalma/Stephen King film "Carrie." Special topics for your consideration include: god's little punishments, concern about John Travolta's basic abilities, the magic of Piper Laurie, prom talk/tuxedo talk and sultry Jesus.  Can't get enough DePalma? Top off with Episode 13- "Phantom of the Paradise" and Episode 27- "Sisters." Let's not forget about Stephen King! We've discussed a TON of his movies so please just listen to my favorite of our King episodes, Episode 66- "Thinner." Have you seen this one? Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm telicinetic. Has someone just gone through puberty? I'm teleconetic. Has someone just gone through puberty? I'm teleconetic, bitch! Did she get the powers from puberty? I'm teleconetic, bitch! Did she get the powers from puberty? Is this the power of puberty? I also got my first period in high school gym class. Nothing cool happened to me.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Literally nothing. Ah, seems so sad. Yeah. Well, I was not shocked. I was like about fucking time. Someone had talked to you about it beforehand. Yeah, I was an adult, practically. I just didn't know why it hadn't come yet.
Starting point is 00:00:47 I mean, Sissy's basic was 25. It's true. Hi, I'm Alan. I'm Katie. This is where Wolf Ambulance. Is she really 25 in this movie? Something like that. Wow.
Starting point is 00:00:56 She's pushing 30. Yeah. Yeah. . We're talking about Carrie. Kerry? 1976? Yep. Stephen Kang. Brian De Palma. Diplama. Diplams. Old Diplams, what they call him?
Starting point is 00:01:10 I fucking John Travolta is in this movie. I had somehow forgotten about that. Even though I know I knew it. And when he showed up I was like, oh. It's so hunky though. I had thi volta attractive. Never. No. What?
Starting point is 00:01:27 What? Go back. No, he is not. He is not. You know what it is about John Travolta? He always strikes me as illiterate. Wasn't there like an afterschool special that he did where he was? Really?
Starting point is 00:01:41 Maybe there was. I think he can't. If you, if I learned tomorrow that John Travolta couldn't read, I'd be like, yeah, yeah, it makes sense, you know? What a weird thing to strike someone at this? You're questionable literate. I don't know, that moth fucker makes me think you can't swim. Just to get this out of the way now, John Travolta has a southern accent in this movie? Sometimes he does, and sometimes he does it. Hey, you're fucking, I'm from the south.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Yeah, it's real bad. Also, you can tell he's completely uncomfortable, like, slapping that actress, because he just like sort of jabs her real gently and goes, uh. Oh, is that's the the very beautiful Nancy Allen. It's such a crush on her when I was a kid. She in this movie, she's got mental problems right? In this movie? Yeah. She's sociopath. She's a crazy person. I hadn't, I saw this movie for the first time as a teenager. I have not really seen it since. I don't think. Yeah. I think I didn't quite get a lot of it. Not get, I mean, it first of all, it never occurred to be how obvious it is this is directed by a man because that is not what happens in women's locker rooms in high school. Women don't just wash their breasts for minutes ti ti ti th the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th their th th th their th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi their thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi their their th. As a th. As a th. As a th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I thi. I the. I the the the the the the toge toge toge toge toge toge toge the the the the the the th it is that this is directed by a man because that is not what happens in women's locker rooms in high school. Women don't
Starting point is 00:03:06 just wash their breasts for minutes on end? No, and they're also not like walking around, bush out, slap me, like snapping each other with towel. It's also not how women bully other women, you know what I mean? That would that tho that the women work. Also, no one has ever cared so much about gym class. They were like so mad at her for missing the ball. Please, high school girls do not give a shit about gym class. Oh, that may be true. I have a note that, yeah, that was me with sports because when I was in high school, I mean, it was a fuck up in high school, right? And we were playing a Frisbee football, which already were down a rabbit hole.
Starting point is 00:03:52 I don't want to be down. No, those are two things. Two things that are not for you. So, somebody threw it at me and I just smacked it to the ground because I was a dick. I was a fucking jerk. And the guy came over and wanted th. thua, th. th. thu, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We, th. We were th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thr. thr. thr. thr-a. thri. thri. th thri. thri. thr-a. thr. thr.to fight me. He's like, you're not taking this seriously. And I was like, word, it's Frisbee football. You're right, though right. This is the same gym class that when we had to run track, I decided it would be better if I just walked halfway,
Starting point is 00:04:16 sat down and started smoking. You could do that in the 70s. Yeah, this was a documentary about my high school. Yeah. I mean, the gym teacher is smoking in the principal's office. Smoking a Virginia Slim, too. You ever smoke one of those? Yeah, of course I did. It's like smoking a barstraw. So skinny.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Of course we stole someone's mom cigarettes and smoke the same as a regular cigarette. Yeah, Virginia slims. cigarette for your money. That's longer though. Well I mean but if you buy a regular 100 it generally costs the same as a regular cigarette. So you're just getting more cigarette for your money so always smoke 100s. More tobacco, more nicotine, more smokes. Longer smoke breaks. Yeah, Parliament. It always looks weaer. Yeah who cares? You already look cool. You're smoking. That's all that matters. The slow-mo locker room, like just like bush cam. Giggling wet women.
Starting point is 00:05:12 It just does not, is not a thing that has ever happened in a high school ever, I don't think. Oh man. So Carrie starts having her period, and understandably bugs the fuck out. And then goes way over the line. Yeah. I mean, period talk was like compulsory education in my day. I'm surprised that it wasn't in the 70s. Yeah, I remember having the, uh, the segregated by sex auditorium.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Like, yeah, the ladies had the period talk and then I don't know. It was like fifth grade. They gave us tampons and I wouldn't use them for another like five years. It's horrible. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They gave us deodorant too. I think that was the more driving impetus because everybody's stanky. Everybody's armpits are crying, stinky tears. Oh my God, stinky children. I don't remember the day that it's switched. I don't need deodor.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I don't need deodor. Oh, goodness. Oh, my god. What is the swamp I live in? Am I smuggling a hoaggy? Yeah, that scene is so sad. Just so sad. Oh, so sad. I mean, this movie is so fucking sad. Until it isn't, and then it is again.
Starting point is 00:06:34 You like know exactly what's going to happen, right? But even watching this movie, I was like, maybe she'll just have a nice time at the prom, and then she'll just go home, you know? And then maybe she'll go to college. Oh, man. the worst, the worst. W W W W W W W W W W W W. tha? tha. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. th. th. thi. thi. thate. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that that that thi thaa tha thiiiiiiiiiiii. So thi. So thi. thi. thi. the prom and then she'll just go home you know and then maybe she'll go to college. Oh man, the greatest American hero. William Cat was in a TV show called the Greatest American Hero where he was like a nerdy dude who gets a special outer space suit that makes him a superhero. It's ridiculous. I don't even know. He looks like Tommy from Tommy though and his character is Tommy. Such luxurious hair.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Oh, he's a pinball wizard. Um, so, so the, her getting her period gives her her powers. Am I'm not wrong about that? No, I think you're, I don't know. I don't know, because she's like, doesn't seem to be that surprised that she can do this stuff. Sure. I don't know, but then then then then then then then th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that surprised that she can do this stuff. Sure. I don't know but then she does like that's the first time she goes and looks it up so maybe you're right. Yeah. Is this a Stephen King problem? But teleconetic
Starting point is 00:07:31 children? Telekinetic children but also like putting a period in it you know like making it about teen fertility or something. Yeah an allegory he doesn't quite understand. Of course. Like all things Stephen King, he just doesn't quite understand. It's a little bit off. This is his first published book. No shit. And it became a movie. Wow. That's crazy. That is crazy. Yeah. Also crazy is the carry is short for Carrietta. Oh. Her mother says something about Carrieta. And I was like, really? How good are Sissy Spacic and Piper Lorry in this movie? Piper Lorry is amazing. She's a monster in this movie. It's incredible. Sissy Spacic is also amazing, but Piper Lorry is so, so, so, so, so good. So scary.
Starting point is 00:08:17 So scary. And she has like an angel face. Yeah. Yeah. That crucifix Jesus in the closet scared the shit out of me when I was a teen. It's so creepy. It's so creepy. And you know it's foreshadowing because of the hair. Yeah. And it looks like Brian May from Queen. Oh yeah, it doesn't have a beard. He doesn't have a beard. It's so weird. Why doesn't Jesus have a light him up eyes? He does. Boyloria is a religious him up eyes. He does. Boy, Valerie is a religious weener. That's one of my notes. Yeah, she's a
Starting point is 00:08:48 religious weener. She's trying to, she gets mad at Sue's mom for giving her $10. But in 1976, $45 now. It's a lot of money. Yeah, it's true. Inflation calculator. So Carrie's walking home after being abused by her gym class. They let her go home early. And there's a kid on a bike that's just like a dick, like a neighborhood dick. Yeah. Creamy, Carrie. Which is apparently Brian DePalma's kid. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:09:20 She just throws him off his banana seat and it's so good. Yeah, with her brain, with her mind, with her brain mind. He looks like a little shit too. Good job Brian DePalmwell. I love that the gym teacher's just like, fuck these girls, fuck them, they're their assholes, ruin their lives. Manhandling them. Wait, I want to say thi.. thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thoom's, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho-a, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. thi., I want to say two things first of all she would never get away with manhandling students like that in this day and age
Starting point is 00:09:46 No in this day, age correct Two she's she yells at them first of all I would love an opportunity to yell at a room full of teens second her punishment is just making them work out. Yeah, they're not that bad. That was not that bad. That was that was not punishment. That was that was that that that that that that was not not not not not not not not not not not not not not not not not not not not that was not not not not that was not not not not that was not punishment. That was not punishment. That was not punishment. That was not punishment. T that was not punishment. T that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not not not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not not not not punishment. that was not not not punishment. that was not not punishment. that was not not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment. that was not punishment for Brian to Pamo. No. Is they're going to do push-ups? Yeah, they're going to do push-ups. But also, like, if your detention is doing push-ups, like, your life goes on. You know what I mean? It was a lot of push-ups. It was 50 minutes of exercise. The bitches are going to the prom bodies. Get your prom body. Prom body?
Starting point is 00:10:26 Now you get a prom body, Alan. You take a body and you put a prom on it. That's a, that's very prom body positive, okay? Someone puts up the graffiti, Carrie White, eat shit? Yeah, that's rough. Weird graffiti. Weird graffiti. With like an illustration of her also, perhaps eating shit.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Do you like Norma, who is from, who is also in Halloween? Yeah, PJ Souls. P.J. Souls is dressed like Mario the Plummer for a good portion of this film? So I think PJ Souls, you just get PJ Souls and you just have to plug her into whatever role you have. Because she's the same thing in rock and roll high school, she's the same thing in Halloween. She's a character actor, I guess. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:13 I love her baby bangs though. Yeah. I love that Chris, Nancy Allen's character is so pissed about being punished for being shitty to somebody. I mean, she's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's th. I thi thi. thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I'm thi. I'm that's that's that's that's that's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's thi. I's thi. thi. I's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm thi for being shitty to somebody. I mean, she's a maniac. Also, there's something about the way everyone says the word Chris in this that makes me really uncomfortable. Why is that? I don't know, it's something, the affect of it. Ah, K-S-A.
Starting point is 00:11:36 It's something in the k- it's like reverse ASMR to me. RMSA? Yeah, got it, got it. So she's driving around with her boyfriend, John Travolta. And cars full of people just keep pulling up next to him, like, hey, what are you doing? He's like, hey, I'm Southern. Yeah. Give me a beer. And so just throws a beer into his car and I was like, man, this guy's got it going on. He really does. And it's Pepsi- Ribbon who have not changed their packaging ever.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Why would they? Once you hit perfection, you don't fuck with that. That's true. What are you gonna do? Put some cold mountains on it? How else will you know if it's cold if they don't turn blue? They should make to be southern. This is shocking. I mean, where is this movie taking place?
Starting point is 00:12:27 I assume Maine. No, no, this is one of the rare, like, not in Maine movies, it seems. Where is it? Somewhere in the south? I thought it was like California or something, but I'm not sure. Yeah. Chris and John Travolta have this really terrible relationship where they're just fighting all fighting the the the the the the they're fighting they're fighting they're just fighting they're just fighting they're just fighting they're just fighting they're just fighting they're just fighting they're just fighting their they're smacking each other in the face and calling each other shit heads and dumb shit dumb shit and then there's a scene where they park and she starts giving
Starting point is 00:12:52 him a blowjob and she's still talking a mile a minute and like hey he's reacting like he's getting a blowjob yeah it's like her head is bobbing yeah it's like nobody it's like nobody okay first of all thinner let's get thinner the the the the there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there there there there was there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there was there was there was there was there was th the the the the the the the the the the the there was the there was there was there was there was there was there was like nobody... Okay, first of all, thinner. Let's get to thinner. Remember there was that gross blowjob in that movie too? I think maybe Stephen King just doesn't know. What a blowjob is. Yeah, she's just on there, she's occasionally blowing on it while she's yelling at him.
Starting point is 00:13:17 She's doing it like today. Her gym teacher and her boyfriend both hit her, which is kind of crazy. Yeah. So in order to make it up to Carrie for being a dick, Sue Snell decides that her boyfriend, William Kat Tommy, has to take her to take care of the prom. Do you think that Tommy and Sue share hair products? Of course.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Their curls are so curly. Yeah. Yeah. Were the 70s the last heyday of super curly hair? Or was it the Felicity era? I mean, there was a different kind of big curl in the 80s, I feel. And then ever since then we've been working with a very flat. Right, yeah, yeah. This was sheer volume.
Starting point is 00:14:13 They were just going for, yeah. Even by where Lori is just like, woof. Big, big hair. Do you think it's kind of fucked up that he took her to the prom? I, this is th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, took her to the prom. This is a thing that hadn't occurred to me before watching this movie as an adult too, is like, why is he doing it? Is Sue genuine in her desire to make it up to, like? I think so.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Okay, it is out of kindness. Because in going back and watching this, I, like, my memory was that Sue and Tommy are in on the pig's blood. But they're not, they're clearly not. They're totally shocked by it. And they were just trying to do a nice thing which I don't actually think is a nice thing because it's very misleading about what's going on. Right because like getting, is this a Rachel Lee Cook, she's all that scenario where he's like, now she's not ugly? Maybe, maybe. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:15:12 Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm very confused by that because like what if this had all gone according to plan what happens tomorrow? You know what I mean? They had a great night and they're chums now. I think it's supposed to be like, what was that what was that thing called? There was something, it was like the flash mob thing that, this American Life did a story about this flash mob group. I can't, there's something. Remember flash mobs? Are they done? I think so. I hope so. It seemed really annoying. Yeah, I would not want to see that. But they decided to do their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. things. things. things. things. things. things. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It was like. their their their best show. So they found like a random band that nobody'd ever heard of that was having a show in New York City. The people in this flashmile have learned the lyrics to some of their songs.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Like 40 of them went to the show and sang along and got the band's autograph. And to give the band the best show they've ever had. Yeah. The band was not in on it. Right. So they're like, oh this is crazy, this is great. Oh, we just hit it big. Next show nothing. Next show nothing. And the guitar player in that band had really bad anxiety problems. And like this drove him in a really bad direction once he figured out it was a lie. Wow. And I think the same thing happens to Carrie.
Starting point is 00:16:28 So in a way, Chris and John Travolta saved her from that. No, I'm going to go with your maniac. But also, this is another thing that I didn't realize until I watched it as an adult. The people, they're all laughing at you, isn't really happening. That's in Carrie's head. Because she looks out and the principal is laughing and the gym teacher are laughing, they certainly would not be laughing in real life if this happened. And the couple that she sees laughing is Tommy's short friend, who I'm obsessed
Starting point is 00:16:58 with, I love him. And his girlfriend, both of whom had been being very nice to Carrie. And in her, when we see it from her perspective, they're laughing at her. But then we see another shot where they're like trying to get, they're like getting upset about what's happening. It never occurred to me that the people aren't really laughing at her. Is it like PJ Sol's the only one laughing? She's the only one laughing. friend and his date are like disgusted with her, yeah. But that's not how Carrie sees it, which I didn't never notice. I was so bummed that she killed
Starting point is 00:17:28 the gym teacher. Yeah. It was like that, that is your literal cheerleader. Yeah. And you just killed her. Yeah. I love how fast this movie gets into it. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't I didn't realize it but it's this and it's a 90-minute movie. But it's like you you you you you you you you you you you th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. I that. I that. I that. I that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. I. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I th. I th. I th. I that. I that. I it's this and it's a 90-minute movie but it's like you're in it for yeah. Yeah. So let's get into her and her mom. Ugh probably how I'm gonna raise my daughter is that good? It seemed good, right? No that's a hundred percent not true. I'm gonna tell her that pimples are the Lord's way of chastising her because that's how I feel about my own now. Oh, these are my god dots. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:06 These are all the times I failed our Lord. That explains so much about my pimples. I know. So Biper Lorry is this extreme religious nut bar who's like raising Carrie to be the same. Doing her best anyway, yeah. And it's all because she fucked a dude and got pregnant? But then married him. It seems like she fucked him, married him.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Oh no, they only had sex once. Yeah. Because she makes him promise never to have sex with her again, and then he marries her, which I found to be a terrible, that sounds like something off of Reddit, the subreddit are relationships. Okay. I, you know that I don't know the cones to see Reddit. It's just people asking for relationship.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Just people are crazy. I'm in a relationship with fire. Do you think that's a good thing? Exactly. Yeah, she's so good at being evil in this movie. Like, when she goes to the neighbors to beg for money, I'm not sure what, like... I mean, she takes the money and puts it into like a little lockbox, so she was there to get money, but she gets mad about the money being given to her. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Because I guess she didn't want to hear it, hear the God talk. I'll give you $10 to go away, basically. Yeah, she's giving her, trying to give out pamphlets and. Yeah. You get religious people knocking on your door. I usually either don't answer the door or say, I'm good. When they start talking, I'm good. I mean, I never answer the door no matter what.
Starting point is 00:19:50 I have a big tattoo of Satan on my forearm that I just splash sometimes. Yeah, that's good for those old ladies. I'm on the other team. Oh. I love when she's like asking for the money and she just turns, doesn't look at her, just opens the box. It's like, oh. She is mean. And there's so much like tension in that meanness when she comes into their house and she's
Starting point is 00:20:13 like smiling and you're like, hmm, that's not a smile. No, it's like you know when you're around someone who's about to snap and It's like that. Yeah, yeah, it's so tense. Yeah. How great is our house though? Carrie lives in a room that looks like the kid's attic room from Trick or Tree that wasn't really an addict? And it has a portrait of like a sexy smoldering Jesus. Did you see that? He is so sexy. I love sexy Jesus. I would fuck that Jesus. Other Jesus is not so much. There was a there's like a school of Jesus art that's like, oh shit, fuckable Jesus. He's got an eight pack and he's got those muscles that go down, they go down. Yeah, great abs on Jesus. I wonder fuckable Jesus.com is a website I can get. I'm gonna check.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Fuckable Jesus.com. I'll get a dot net if I have to. Ooh, looks like I can get it. Uh-oh. I'm not gonna. I keep just buying URLs that, never mind. They don't lead anywhere. What am I doing with my life?
Starting point is 00:21:22 Where you should buy Fuckable Jesus and then send it somewhere equally ridiculous. Like whereofambulance.com? Another URL that I own? PBS.com. Org. Org. Org. What's that? They've gone, they've gone, uh, secular. I don't know. I bet PBS. I is something completely unlike PBS. I bet it's like penis butt sex.com, you know.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Now is that a butt with a penis? I don't know. I haven't been there. Yeah. So Carrie immediately starts using her powers against her mom. Yeah. Why wouldn't she figures out she has them. Why wouldn't she? You know?
Starting point is 00:22:08 I love when she's slamming her down on the bed. It's obviously just like by her lorry getting pulled backwards. Yeah. Because her mother is trying to tell her not to go to the prom. She talks about her dirty pillows. Oh, so sad. They called breasts, mama. Every woman has them. Oh my God, help.
Starting point is 00:22:27 And she's like, then she starts doing anything where she's scratching her face and pulling her own hair? Like, oh God, she's so crazy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, man. Do you like it when John Travolta goes and kills a pig? It would be really hard to kill a pig.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You, I mean, you, I can't imagine a scenario in which I could kill a pig. I literally could not kill a pig, I don't think. Just you and a sledgehammer and a pig? No. Yeah. I don't, I can't, the stakes would have to be so high for me to kill a pig. And he just does it. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I thi. I thi. I th. I thi. I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to kill. I to kill. I to kill. I to kill. I to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill a to kill. I. I to kill. I to. I the. I the. I the. I thea. I thea. I thea. I toooooooooooo. I toe. I toe. I toe. I to. I to. I to. I to kill a pig and he just does it. Yeah and then fills a bucket with blood. Yeah. Also why that blood not coagulate? It's been out there for like a day. I don't know about blood. Does it work that way? Does it quackle it does a quackle it's in a big bucket? I don't think it keeps clot? I don I mean, it would take a long time for it to all turn into like a, it's not like a can of cranberry sauce, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:23:32 But your grandma would have on Thanksgiving? I can handle that, I'd be I dumped on my head. Oh my god, I'm going to eat canned berry sauce later. At what point do you just open a can of cranberry sauce and go into watch TV? It's a depressing look into a real life, you know? Freddie is in on the pig blood heist with John Travolta and Chris. Okay. Freddy's the baseball cap guy who's with PJ Souls. Right. Also the baseball cap woman. Exactly. They're a
Starting point is 00:24:09 baseball cap family. Um, when he goes up to the guy who's leading the prom committee and the guy, he's like, I want to be the prom committee and the guy, I'm, I'm, the the. I want to be here at 8. It's like, it's like, it's like, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, committee. And the guy, I want to take care of telling the votes. Okay, you gotta be here six. I'm gonna be here at eight. Okay. Yeah, bullies man. Maybe is a master negotiator. He's, because he is originally supposed to kill that pig too.
Starting point is 00:24:34 And then he's just like, nah, and John, and John, and John, and John, and John, and John, and John, and the scene of the three guys going to get tuxedos. Super funky shopping montage. It's so funky. The music is so funky and I love them. I have the note that tux is. I hate crime. It is. I really like that short guy. I want to watch his movie. Yeah. He seems nice. I like the tall guy that's just like, I don't I don't wear a tux guy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm the tuc. I'm tux. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I the music. I the music. I'm not. I'm. I'm. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I the music. I tuc. I tuc. I tuc. I tux. I tux. I tux. I tux. I tux. I tux. I'm. I'm. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I don't. I tuc. I'm not. I tuc. I'm not. I tuc. I tuc. I'm tuc. I tuc. I tuc. I tuc. I t. I th. I t't wear tuxes. I'm not a tux guy. Yeah, where's the tux t-shirt? Then the UC, when you see him at the prom, he's wearing an actual taxi thing. Yeah, and he looks good. He's a dux guy. Come on.
Starting point is 00:25:08 Text guy. We're all tux guys when you get down to it. Oh, Carrie kills everybody. Except Sue. Poor Sue and her beautiful hair. Oh man. She married Brian DePalma. After this movie. Or no wait, maybe Nancy Allen married Brian DePalma. Hold on. Or did Nancy Allen marry Stephen Spielberg?
Starting point is 00:25:35 So Nancy Allen married Brian De Palma. She was married from 79 to 84 to Brian De Palma. And... Seems like a long time to be married to Brian De Palma, honestly. You think? Yeah. Oh, man. And then, Amy Irving was married to Spielberg.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Oh, I think. Am I making that up? Am I making up Spielberg facts again? I'm always making it up. Spillberg. to Spillberg. . Yeah, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, to to to to to to to to to to to to to am owning currently. Yeah, she was married to Spielberg from 88 to 89. Wow.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Not a very long time to be married to Steven Spielberg. No, no. Probably too long. Too, sure. Sure. Sure. You just keep explaining Indiana Jones to be Stilber. I've seen it.
Starting point is 00:26:17 I know what it is. I saw all of them. Why do you think that he would just that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he would that he would that he would that he would that he would to. Why do you think that he would just explain Indiana Jones? He loves it. It's his favorite. Oh yeah. Fair. What if that's the thing he's fixated on? It's fine. I'm making AI, but I'm thinking about Indiana Jones.
Starting point is 00:26:39 So there's the shopping montage. They get their tuxes. Tommies tux is very ugly. The 70's is not is not is not is not is not is not is not is not th. It's is not th. It's is not th. It's is not. It's is not. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's thi. thi. thi. It's thiole. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. thoes. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. thi. It's. It's. thi. thi. It's. It's. thi. thi. It's. thi. It's. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. It's. thi. It's. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. the th. th. the th. the th. th. their tuxes. Tommy's tux is very ugly. The 70's not a good time for fashion. It's very rough. Even his sleeves we see later are ruffled. They have like a little ruffle cuff. And it is a hate crime. I just got ruffle cuffed.
Starting point is 00:26:54 Oh good. I just bought a bagthe ruffle jokes. We've gone as far as they can go. They go to the prop. They're dancing, Carrie and Tommy. I love that spinning scene where they are on just like, oh yeah, yeah. Yeah. They're on a record player, basically.
Starting point is 00:27:20 It looks so cool. And it puts you into Carrie's mindset. Yeah. Because you know she was dizzy as hell. She was like, just like, her endorphins are going. She's like, this is the best night of my life. Yeah. She gets smooched by honky, hunky, wimkat. the toy.
Starting point is 00:27:35 It's not great. In my mind, he wasn, he's hunky. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's not great. Fuckable blonde, Jesus. Yeah. That one is definitely for sale. So they're put on the ballot for homecoming K and Queen.
Starting point is 00:27:57 A prom. Prom. Prom coming home queen. Um, is that? Did you know that I was my high school's prom queen? What? No. LOL. I just guess I've been to three proms, right? Yeah. Multi-prom guy. Just the one for me, the one where I was the queen? Yeah. No. I would vote for you. Well, you didn't. Well, it would have been weird if I was there. You were 28 years old. It was weird enough that I was at one at 19. Yeah, I would be very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very th. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. No. if I was there. You were 28 years old. It was weird enough that I was at one at 19.
Starting point is 00:28:28 It would have been very weird if I was at one. Too old to be at prom? Yeah. Well, there are rules of this prom. Because Sue isn't allowed to go because you didn't have a date. That is such a 70s conceit. Like, you can only go if a man is a taken't, thaks in though. Yeah, wearing like jeans and a peasant blouse too. She doesn't even try. She puts down her fork and goes to the prom. Dinner with her family, she's like, oh is it tonight? Was she just going there to be like, I did it.
Starting point is 00:28:55 They're having a great time. I think so. I think so. Yeah, she couldn't just be like, yo, post some ticks on Instagram so I can see how this went. So they win because Freddie and PJ rigged the vote. And they go up on stage and they're accepting their kings and queenships. And then there's the long rope tugging scene. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Chris is tugging on the rope and tugging on the rope and tugging on the rope. the rope. And the rope. And the rope. And the rope. And the rope. And the rope. And the rope. And the rope. And the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th thi thi thi thi thi the the the the they was thogged they was they was they was they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's th, th, th, th, th, the th, the the the the the the th, th, the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi thi thi thi the the the the theeeeeeeeauggedy the theeeeeauggedy the the thi thi the Chris is tugging on the rope and tugging
Starting point is 00:29:26 on the rope and tugging on the rope and tugging on the rope and Sue's like I see you're tugging on the rope. Yeah. And then gym teacher's like a fuck is Sue doing here? She's so mad about Sue being there. She just throws her around the waist and drags her out screaming. And no one is like that upset by it. They're just like, that Sue. She throws her out the door. Yeah, and locks it behind her. Fuck. Jesus.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Saving Sue's life. True. So they dump the blood on her head. Yeah. So sad. You just, you know it's going to happen and you hope maybe this time it doesn't. And I feel like that's a mark of a really good movie where you're like maybe this, you know, like, yeah, he gets so emotionally
Starting point is 00:30:13 invested. Also we've seen so much garbage lately. I was gonna say we should take a second and how fucking good this movie. Oh my god it was so enjoyable. thi. Starting point is 00:30:49 Oh, I see what you did there. I was going to ask, is that even a thing that people understand? Probably not. Who wants to be a millionaire? And that wasn't even the thing. Wait, doesn't who wants to be a millionaire? No, it's called The Weakest Link. No, the Weakest Link is another TV show. Yeah, that's what you are the weakest link.
Starting point is 00:31:08 I know, no. I don't even want to talk about this anymore. Yeah, and then she gets wild-eyed. Yeah, and everything goes, phew. So yeah, so then she gets the blood on her and then she gets wild-eyed. Yeah, and everything goes, Eee! I love that loud squeaking sound of things moving. It made me feel like psycho was going to start at any moment.
Starting point is 00:31:35 I'm like, I got a lot. Why do they get the little psycho noises? I thought that was sort of like a tip, a hat tip, what kids call it? Yeah. Yeah. So, I had forgotten about the fire hose, and it's just silly. Yeah. But it's great. Yeah, it really is. It adds this like keystone cops thing where they're just like, she's just blowing kids away with a fire hose.
Starting point is 00:31:57 It's pretty funny. It's not meant to be, but it sure is. And then fire starts. She's the fire starter. That was a different one. Oh yeah, that was the prodigy documentary that I watched. Yeah. Wait, isn't True Barry more the fire starter? Is that Stephen King? Yes. Oh god. Or pyrokinesis. Yeah, kids are magical. Why is he always doing that? Because people keep buying them? Yeah. He stopped buying his books, stop making them teleconnected kids. I don't know if he still is.
Starting point is 00:32:28 Last time I heard he was like, uh, JFK assassination or something? Yeah. What? That's probably like 10 books to go fight at this point. Yeah, they made a TV show out of it. With James Franco? With James Frank.
Starting point is 00:32:41 I watched that, I I think I even realize I think I did now I remember oh my god it was so bad I watched it like right after I had Lucy and Rob and I were watching it like four o'clock in the morning like we were watching it just in this total sleep it was so bad he has to go back in time and prevent the JFK assassination and it's James Franco and he's going back to ti ti. he's th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th thr-I thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin the thin the thin. thi. thi. the. the. the. the. I like him a lot, but I know he's a terrible person, which makes it hard. Yeah. Not a good dude. No, not a good dude. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:13 Yeah. Yeah. So Carrie kills everybody in the gym teacher with a big light ringing and it comes down and it's super sad. Yeah, it is. And then she stumble walks all the way home. Chris was really going to hit her with that car. And Chris and John Travolta driving down the road.
Starting point is 00:33:33 How they escaped the gym, I do not know. Right. I guess they probably ran out when the blood had come down, but the, the eke, they, they, they, they, they, they, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, the, the, the, was, was, was, was really, was really, the, th, th th th th th th th th th th th th th. And they are joyous about running her over. They were gonna just fucking wreck her. Yeah, it's crazy. I mean in their defense, she just murdered everyone in the chimpanzee. They don't know that. And then she blows their fucking car up with their mind.
Starting point is 00:34:01 She makes it roll a bunch of times, which somehow I didn't remember at all. Oh, it like swerves around her and she gets, eek! And then it blows up and it's so good. Oh man. They have that coming. Yeah, oh for sure, sure. Yeah. Then she goes home and kills her mom in the doorway of their kitchen. Yeah. With knives. It's the foreshadowing of the Jesus in the closet. You can tell by the hair.
Starting point is 00:34:31 It's true. Yeah. Her mom is going to stab her. Her mom decides that she shouldn't live because she's not a good person. Right, because she went to the prom. Yeah, she smooched a boy so she has to die. What kind of Christianity prohibits sex between married people? I think I'm gonna go with a none of them. Wasn't there a sect of Christianity that like it wasn't the Shakers but it was some kind of furniture making sect of it that was out this way that did not reproduce like their whole thing was like well I well I guess they don't exist anymore though they're gone yeah that's kind of how it works you can't keep making them no so she's she's gonna stab Carrie what kind of business plan is
Starting point is 00:35:19 that I don't think they were hoping to be profitable well they were hoping to be profitable. They're certainly not. I'm sorry, I'm going to need to see your business plan on this one. I'm just saying. Because fucking should be part of it. Yeah. Fuckable Jesus. She nails her mom up with a bunch of knives in the doorway, and then the house collapses in on itself.
Starting point is 00:35:43 So here's a little fun fact. The movie was originally supposed to start with the house being pelted with stones. Like a rain of stones was supposed, like... Like from the Hunting of Hill House? Yes, that sort of thing. And whatever that house in Liverpool was supposedly had stones raining on it for days. I didn't know about that. I think one of the conjuring movies is set there. And so, but it didn't look right when they did it.
Starting point is 00:36:08 So originally that was supposed to happen in the beginning and then at the end the stones are supposed to come and demolish the house. Oh wow. Is that what happens in the book? Probably. Probably. But it's interesting because, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, so the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house the house the house is the house the house the house that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was was was that was that was was that was was that was that was that was that was that was that was, that was, that was, that was, that was, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house, the house the house the house the house collapses on itself, catches on fire, goes away, bye-bye. And then, in a dream sequence, I guess, Sue goes to the house. And it's a vacant lot filled with rocks, with a first sale sign on it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:42 And so I was like... Why are the rocks? Because I guess they were supposed to be the rocks that bummed the house, but they had taken them out of the movie.. Yeah. And so I was like, why the rocks? Because I guess they were supposed to be the rocks that bumled the house but they had taken them out of the movie. Why didn't they just have it be on, why didn't they just film this on a vacant lot somewhere? It's so weird. That is, because I, when I saw it I thought it's weird. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's gonna be people are gonna have to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move those to move to move their to move their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their to move to move to move to move to move their to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to move to to to to to to to move to move to move the to move the the the Sue is moving out of town, right? She's got her bags packed, she's leaving in this dream sequence. But she's bringing flowers to the house? Because she loved Carrie now? Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:37:15 And also, Carrie killed her boyfriend, all her friends, and all of her teachers, and everyone in her life except her immediate family. Yeah. So... And it's really kind of her fault. except her immediate family. Yeah. Yeah. And it's really kind of her fault. Yeah. Well, it is. It is. Maybe that's why she feels bad and was bringing flowers.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Maybe. Road to hell and all that. Yeah. Yeah. And then an arm shoots out of the rocks and grabs her. It's such a great ending. It's such a good jump, final jump scare. And that is really Sissy's basics arm.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Oh, cool. She demanded to do that. So Brian DePalma was like, I'm not burying you. Your husband has to do it. Really? So her husband had to like put her in the box and put stones on top of it. Wow. Because DePama would not that the thua thua thua that thua that that that thua that that that that that thuama would that's that's that's thuama would not that's thuama would not do it. Weird. That's weird, right? Yeah. Can I read you my last couple of notes?
Starting point is 00:38:08 Please. Well, let me just read you this one. If I'm going to die, I hope it's in a white lace and satin nightgown, because I think that's what Sue is wearing. But then also, the last note that I have is talking on the phone while Sue was having this dream and she's like, the doctor says that she's young enough that she'll forget about it all in time. Yeah. She's like 18 fucking years old.
Starting point is 00:38:30 She's not gonna forget, she's not gonna forget. What kind of quack of medicine is this? You've forgotten everything from 18, right? You can't remember her. Why don't I have any friends or teachers or principals from when I was 18. Let's be honest, that principal deserve to fucking die. Cassie, Cassie, Cassie. What a dick bag. Yeah. They must have all died in a prom fire and I just don't remember. Could be. That common occurrence of a prom fires. Promfire.com.
Starting point is 00:39:02 Do you want to go to the meep, meep, meep, Marietta's Meep, Meep, Meep, Meep, Face? Sure. You want to go first? I do. Great. This movie's fucking fantastic. Yeah. It's, oh man, I forgot hard movies could be so god-dam good. I know. I know. I mean, say what you will about Hellraiser 2. It's no carry. I guess we said a lot about Hellraiser 2 is my understanding. We got a tweet from somebody about that movie where they said, basically like, strongly disagree but I didn't come here for the review.
Starting point is 00:39:39 I was like, that's exactly how I feel about this. You should be here for the yuck yuck's. So that's exactly how I feel about this. You should be here for the yuck yucks. And I was like. So that person liked it? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. People love that movie. Strongly disagree. Maybe they just didn't mean sex demon shit. I mean, who's to say?
Starting point is 00:39:56 But Carrie is fantastic. Yeah. It's a goddamn 10. I was also going to give Carrie a 10, but now that you did, I feel like I can't. So nine and a half. Why can't? Because have we ever both given something a 10? I'm sure we have. The Shining probably? No, I think we ding the Shining for being too goddium long. Okay. Maybe silence of the lambs. Yeah. It's possible. the brink of the lambs. It's possible. It's a silence. the the silence. the silence. the silence. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. tha. tha. tha. tha. thia. thi. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. thoom. tha. thoom. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. Starting point is 00:40:25 I mean, first of all, it's a beautiful movie. It's well acted. It's a great story. It's Stephen Kang at his finest, apparently. Excellent use of squeaks. I love the squeaks. Yeah. And also, just the bias that I have, the reciency bias that I have right now of just having watched so much garbage that I was dreading watching and hating watching and then to just
Starting point is 00:40:47 watch something that's like so good. There's nothing like it. It's like, it's like holding a pee for a really long time and then you finally get to pee and you're like, that was the best pee of my life. Definitely thought you bet you had a little green pee in your hand. No. I'm just holding a pee for a really long time. Holding my pish. Should I have said pish without help? Words you come up with when you have a small child. But if I ask her, where do I pish?
Starting point is 00:41:17 Where do I pish? Pesh out? Pish out, loose. I thought maybe holding a pea was in like a new strength training thing. We were just putting a pee in each hand holding a mouth. It's like a Zen thing, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's a ten, everybody.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Go watch it. Go watch us. I don't want to fight anybody. I'm so t you. Okay, you can be able to read it with my prone body on top of it? Well you'll be on the mail bag, I'll pull a letter out of the bag. Okay, good, go ahead then. Hi Alan and Katie. Hi. Hello. I've been a little behind in my listening because of some real life stuff. I'm sorry. Yeah, it's never good real life stuff. I was eating a lot of ice cream. I was having so much fun I forgot about your show. No one has ever said that to us.
Starting point is 00:42:09 I was at Six Flags Great Adventure for a month. They just did it. Oh my god, thank you. It was so embarrassing and hard. Some real life stuff. Which I guess is probably a weird thing for a stranger from the internet to say, but oh well. No, that's really, that means that you feel something towards us and I appreciate that, because otherwise like why would you still be doing this? Starting point is 00:43:54 Things just suck so bad right now. But people, and we're a little bright light in people's lives. That's crazy. We did a thing. We did a thing, we made it. Then we burned down the prom, which we shouldn't have done. I mean, whatever. It wasn't even our prom. We don't even have a prom. Squeak!
Starting point is 00:44:09 Squeak! E! Puh! Puh! Those are door slamming, in case it was our last guest, wasn't it? Yeah, was she after Hedges? I can't even remember. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:31 It's been a long time. Remember we used them every five episodes? Yeah, crazy time. That was hard. How do we coordinate that many people? Let's have our friend Chris come and talk about the 1932 Universal Pictures classic. The mummy. The mummy. Tom Cruise is so old.
Starting point is 00:44:50 He was in a movie in 1932. He looks the same. I don't know how he does it. He's a witch. He's bathing in baby's blood. He's the elspeth bathery. Yeah. Probably crazy. Perfect diagnosis of Countess Bathory. Yeah. Oh she crazy. Oh
