Starting point is 00:00:00 Katie. Alan. Listeners. Listeners. Listeners. I have to, uh... I have to, uh... I have to, uh, come clean about something.
Starting point is 00:00:12 I've got a copy of Speed on DVD downstairs that I'm going to watch. I have to, uh, I have to, uh, come clean about something. I've got a copy of Speed on DVD downstairs that I'm going to watch. Yes, I really think you're going to like it. You're going to like Sandy and you're going to love Keanu. We've done what, 215 of these now? Pretty close, yeah. I have never said anything that's gotten such a response as,
Starting point is 00:00:44 nah, not a big fan of Sandy Bullock. Yeah, a lot of people are upset. Yeah, yeah. People are like, how can you think that? She's kind of America's treasure. I got tisked. I saw that and I applauded. I sat at my desk applauding.
Starting point is 00:01:02 I like that that person was like, it's okay that Katie doesn't like Eric Stoltz, but you can't not like Sandra Bullock. And you know what? They were right. So I'm gonna watch Speed this weekend and yeah. Where you get that DVD from? Oh, a listener, friend, and former guest of the podcast Dave owns a copy of Speed. That does not surprise me. If you'd like to listen to Dave's episode it is And former guest of the podcast, Dave owns a copy of Speed. That does not surprise me. If you'd like to listen to Dave's episode, it is Event Horizon. Katie's favorite. That was a fun episode, though.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Yeah, Dave's a hute. I'm gonna start describing more people's huts. He's a hate. Eh, he's a hate. It's a great Pittsburgh accent word, he's a hate. Now may I confess something. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi I thi I thi I thi I thi I thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, thi, th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. It's a thi. It's a thi. thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. It's a thi. It's a thi. It's a th Please. This is a little dark, so. Okay, okay. While watching this week's film, I felt very attracted to Craig T. Nelson. Oh yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, thank God. I know we grew up to be like a tea party jag-off. Yeah. But like, damn. This is peak T. Nelson. Man, I had no idea he was so hot. I feel like by coach it was gone.
Starting point is 00:02:07 Yeah. But this is like, I think it's like, it's the weed smoking and like, like, being a cool dad. Yeah, being a good dad. And like, doing that thing where he pushes his belly out and then sucks it back in. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Along those lines. You also wanted to fuck Craig Diels in. No. But part of my, oh, ladies, was definitely Joe Beth Williams in this movie. Oh yeah, everything about her is fantastic in this movie. Yeah. She's the Bees niece.
Starting point is 00:02:36 So we just basically watched a movie from 1982 where we were like, oh yeah, wood. And that movie is Poltergeist. 1982 where we were like, oh yeah, wood, wood. And that movie is Poltergeist. Poltergeist. What a movie. What a classic, huh? A classic. Had you seen this before? Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:54 Okay. Not since, I probably saw it in the last 10 years. Okay. Yeah. The first time I saw it, I think I was in maybe ninth grade, and I couldn't stop saying they're here. Carolian is aggressively cute. Oh my god, like explosively. Yeah, it's just too too bad. You're almost an anime character, adorable. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Apparently when she was auditioning for this, she couldn't stop laughing. Oh, but Spielberg was like, nah, she's, let's do this again, because she's going to be the one. Too cute. Yeah. Drew Barrymore was originally up for this role too, and that's how she got Gertie and ET. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Oh, right. This was the controversy is. So this is Spielberg's movie. Yeah. Conceptualized, but he couldn't direct it, because he had ET in production at the same time and contractually couldn't direct another movie while he was working on ET. She's like, I have so many masterpieces I can't decide which one to work on. Yeah, basically.
Starting point is 00:03:57 OK, OK, you're gonna helm this, but I'm gonna be here every day. Oh man. And all the pictures from the filming of this are me pointing people to stuff. Oh, jeez. Poor Toby Hooper. So there's this rumor that goes around, and other things I was reading about this,
Starting point is 00:04:17 that he, that Toby Hoophe had nothing to do with the movie. Just came in and checked out. And it feels very Spielbergy. But it also feels very Toby Hoover. Like all the scary stuff feels very Toby. I agree with that statement. That sounds like just a rumor then. I think what it turns out it was, it was two directors collaborating on making a movie. Yeah, and to great success. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:40 I like this movie better than ET. I have definitely seen it way more than I see all ET in the theaters and that's it. Really? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's still great. I don't know. It's so sad. I don't know why I said that like I am from the valley. It's not the Allegheny River Valley. I guess is where we live. Oh, yeah. So, this movie that. I thi. I thi. I think. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th, I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I te. I teat. teat. teat. teat. teat. I te. te. I te. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. not the Allegheny River Valley. Ohio River Valley I guess is where we live. So's this movie though. This movie makes me hella sad watching it. Well and then it doesn't and then I'm happy again. Okay. But like there's a part in this movie that I cry every fucking time I watch. Is it when Carolan is crying? Is it when Carolan is crying? It's when Joe Beth Williams is crying. Mm-hmm. Because Carol Ann has come down the steps
Starting point is 00:05:28 and come through her and she can smell her. Oh, yeah. And when she turns around and she's crying, she says I can smell the goosebumps right now. I have goosebumps right now. Yes, I mean, look you would know that smell. Yeah. Oh, I can smell my kid in a bird box room, blindfolded. I could pick my kid out by smell. That reminds me, Birdbox, I listen to the audio book.
Starting point is 00:05:52 That book is fucking great. Oh, good. Hot recommendation. Yeah. Check it out. Um, don't watch. . . On the lines of the very tender things of this movie, I love how like maternal and kind
Starting point is 00:06:05 the other women are to Joe Beth Williams. Like the scientist lady and Zelda Rubinstein, like they're just both so loving to her. Yeah, it breaks my heart. Yeah, do you think this movie is why we have the ghost hunting shit? Ooh, like everyone's like, I want to be Dr. Lesh or whatever. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it doesn't look that cool for the one guy,
Starting point is 00:06:30 but otherwise, yeah. Which got the guy that pulls his own face off? The guy who pulls a steak out of the fridge that was not wrapped? What was it just sitting on the shelf? And also, was that a cartoon slab of the thi....... thief? thief. thief. thin? thin? thin? thi. thi? thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toe? toe? toe? toe? toe? toe? toe? Yeah. thi. toe? Yeah. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to to to to to th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. Yeah. Yeah. to. to. Yeah. Yeah. to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the bugs bunny cartoon. It looks like the slab of steak you would turn into so it was hungry and staring at you. Exactly. Before we get into the meat and taters of this movie do you want to talk about the curse? Yeah let's get it out of the way because I don't think it's a real thing and it's super sad. So do you want to do or do you want me to do it? No, you can. the curse. the curse. the curse. the curse. the curse. to to to to the curse. to to to the curse. to the curse. to to the curse. the curse. the curse. Do the curse to the curse to to to to to the curse the curse the curse the curse to to to to the c. Do the c. Do the c. Do to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thea. the the thea. the thi. the thi. the thi. thi. thi. thi. the the th I don't think it's a real thing. And it's super sad. So do you want to do or do you want me to do it? Um, nah, you can. So the curse is that this movie was cursed and the way that people know that is because four people died around the Poultrygeist franchise. What's more than four? Oh really? Yeah, but you talk about those four? Okay. So there's Heather O'rork. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th th. th. th th th th. thi th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the thi. thi. the the thi. the thi. the thi. the. the. the. the is Carolin, who died of bowel impaement that went
Starting point is 00:07:27 septic on her. Yeah, she crones, it sounds like, yeah. And she was 12, and it was during or right after Poldogeo's 3. And then the even more disturbing Dominique Dunn, who after the filming of this movie was killed by her an ex-boyfriend. Yeah, he was strangled in her driveway. Yeah, and left to die. And then the other two are the guy who plays Cain in Boulder Gies 2,
Starting point is 00:07:55 who was an old man, and died of old manness. I mean, you can tell, you know, he died of like stomach cancer or something. You can tell he's dying, he's like thi thi thi thi thi he's like he's like he's like th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. He's thi. He's thi thi. He's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. He's thi. He's th. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He thi. He thi. He thi. He thi. He thi. He th th th th th th th th th th th th thi. He thi. He thi thi. He's not thi thi thi thi thi to thi toe thi toe thi toean. He's toean. He's thi toean. He's toean. He's. That man is dying. He's like a skeleton. And he did not look like that throughout his earlier career. Oh right, for sure. Yeah, like that is... I don't think he made it to the end of the filming on that movement. No, someone else did his post-production lines. And then the guy who plays Taylor in that also also died. After like a lung transplant, which sometimes they don't take. Yeah, yeah. The other people I read were, there was a guy who appeared briefly in the first one. I think he might have been one of the friends in the football scene. Okay. Um, was murdered with an axe by an intruder into his home. Jesus. Oh, the other one was Richard Lawson,
Starting point is 00:08:41 who plays Ryan in this film. He didn't actually die, but he almost did, which is kind of like, come on. It was a, he, he, um, he boarded flight 405 to Cleveland in 1992, and the plane crashed into a bay after a failed takeoff, and 27 people died. I don't, I mean, at that point, aren't we just kind of grasping at straws? Yeah, like, well, it was like he'd gotten bumped up to first class and if he hadn't, the people that were in his row, his original seat died, you know, one of the things, but. Also, like going to Cleveland in and of itself is a curse, so like,
Starting point is 00:09:20 Whoa! I love Cleveland. Mistake by the Lake. It rocks. Oh my god, are you talking about the rock and a hall fame? I believe I'm talking about the theme song to the Drew Carey Show. Oh, better. Anyway. So that's the curse of Volgise, which isn't a curse, just a bunch of a series of sad tragedies, yeah. A series of unrelated and sad, sad tragedies, yeah. I guess we can talk about this next week when we do Poultergeist too,
Starting point is 00:09:48 but I thought it was weird that they didn't even mention Dana in Pultorgeis too. They weren't like, she went to college. They could have just said something. It's like worse that they don't. Apparently they had filmed something about her. going to college and then I don't know if it was like out of respect to the family or whatever but yeah it's weird yeah I think it's worse that she's just a ghost they just erased her yeah yeah yeah you want to get into this jam and get away from the sad times yeah let's have fun times I like that this movie opens on the national anthem I'm the big fan of that you did you stand up I know I knelt because because because because because because because because because because I I I I I I I that I the I that I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th. I th I'm I th I th I th. I th. I that I that I that I that I that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi Did you stand up? I think, no, I knelt. I knelt because I stand with Colin Kapernick and Nike and whoever else.
Starting point is 00:10:26 And not Donald Trump. Also, I think all movies should begin with the national anthem. If we're going to play in front of sports, let's play in front of movies. No, I mean? No? I don't want the most natural thing I could think. Oh my god. Well, a white American. God. Oh, burn it all down. But I'm serious about the national thing. Just before everything? Yeah. I'm gonna be tose. Let me push the toaster to him. Yeah. So TV used to go off. Yeah. I remember TV going very very very vaguely. Also, very very bigly. Also, the. the. the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the the th. the the th. th. the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. the the the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. th. th. So TV used to go off. Yeah. I remember TV going off very, very vaguely. Also, why was I up so late, watching television? I was like four. Yeah, you would have been a little baby, nothing, nothing, nothing. Yeah. Watching TV though late night. It's how he became
Starting point is 00:11:20 the woman I am today. I remember when TV stopped going off the air and you're like, what is this? What is going? Yeah. What is the the the the the the the the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thing thing thing thing thing thing thing tha tha tha tha toy toy toy toy toy toy toy toy toy toy t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. Yeah, t. I t. I t. I t. I t. I t. I t. I t. I t. I t. I te. I te. I te. I te. I t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t am today. I remember when TV stopped going off the air and you were like, what is this? Going? Yeah. When was that? Sometimes at the 80s, not long after this movie, I would think. Yeah. Because then like infomercials started and all that stuff. And they just found, capitalism found a way to fill all that time up. Thank God though. Yeah, of course. And now we're just streaming everything on our
Starting point is 00:11:46 phones and our bathrooms. I mean, I watched this movie in my bathroom, so yeah, I did. Was this another, uh, watching in the tub with the, uh... Yeah, but I kept dripping water, trying to do my talk to text because I had to keep hitting the microphone so my notes only go about halfway through. And then there's just a little fizzle on there. I do like that you're luxuriating while you're watching me. I have to get all of my things done at once, you know what I mean? You're also making dinner at the same time. I'm somehow flipping pancakes.
Starting point is 00:12:19 I don't know why we're having pancakes for dinner, but... It's true. I've got to probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot that hot probably get that hot plate out of the bathroom that someone's gonna step on in the dark and then there's a dog stealing food that's our entrance to all the family members because ebuzz is just running around eating all the food does that mean something I don't know either yeah I was gonna ask was somehow affiliated with Buzz Aldrin. I don't know why. That's just why my brain went to. God, I just love the second man on the moon.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Edgar Buzz Aldrin. Neil Armstrong, Neil A. A. Alien backwards. I saw that and that's another thing that maybe would have shut the internet down. Yeah. I also made the mistake of a, what are the comments on this new Ghostbusters movie that are, oh god. There's another new Ghostbusters movie? Yeah, they're doing it. Yeah, well, and all the comments just said things like,
Starting point is 00:13:22 I hope it's not another female cast. Oh, females. Oh, females. And all the comments just said things like, I hope it's not another female cast. I hope there's no females in my female. Oh, females. Get your vaginas off my screen. And I was like, is there an off switch on this thing? No. Unfortunately, it's just in our, it's like a microchip behind our brains. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:39 So little Carol Ann gets out of bed. Little Carol Ann. Adorably walks down the steps. Everything she does is adorable. I know. Those bangs. That like crystal gale-length hair? Everybody knows crystal gale. Everyone loves crystal gale. A reference for all you youngsters out there.
Starting point is 00:13:56 People think long hair. They think crystal gale. Who is modern? I guess Arianna Grande, right? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I fucked. Yeah, I fucked. Yeah, I fucked. Yeah, I fucked. I fucked up I'm sorry you're doing great just like our friend Rapunzel people know that one that's a timeless one yeah yeah unlike Crystal Gale so and then
Starting point is 00:14:16 I have the note hold on missy sat on the remote and restarted the DVD oh did you watch it from the beginning of then yeah so you got the national anthem twice that's nice that's the kind of Patriot I am yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you you the the th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th th th I th th I th I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the th th th the the th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th th th th th I th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the beginning then? See if the National Anthem twice? That's nice. That's the kind of Patriot I am. Yeah. You see it? Oh, every time. Okay, good. No matter what's happening, luckily I wasn't watching this on the toilet. Just shitting, standing, listening to the national anthem.
Starting point is 00:14:38 That's so depressing. That might be the most depressing image we've ever conjured on this show. Oh, that's good. That's rich. Um. Um. None that bird dies. Yeah. And they flush it down the toilet, which, uh, no, please do not flush a bird down your toilet. You really can't do that. You really shouldn't. I love that sea where Joe Beth is like,
Starting point is 00:15:06 well, I guess I'm gonna do this. Starts the flushes, holding the bird, and Carol just goes, yeah. And then we cut to them like having a full blown funeral for this thing. When she puts the twistler in there. I know, it's so sweet. So I want to talk about a real quick thing. I love this movie as a kid, and one of the reasons I loved it is because Robbie's room
Starting point is 00:15:35 felt like my room. Because it was one of the few movies that had enough budget and clout that it was filled with Star Wars and comic books. Okay. And that's th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th so I th so it's th so it's th so it's th so it's tho I tho I'm tho I'm tho I'm tho tho tho I tho I tho- I'm tho- I'm tho- I'm tho- I'm tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho-I tho th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho' tho' tho' that that that that that toldeeat told toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo' and comic books. Oh, okay. And that's what every kid I knew at this age had in their rooms. Yeah. And so it felt like really real for that reason. Yeah. And like the Star War sheets and like all the action figures. I didn't even notice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Yeah. Yeah. It was this and Princess Bride. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And, the the the the th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. th. th. th. th. And, th. th. th. th. th. th. that's, th. th. th. that's. th. th. th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, the. And, the. And, th. And, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And Savage, yeah. Um, what is Star War again? Never mind. In 1977. I don't know what that means. Our Lord George Lucas.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Oh, I do know that. How do you feel about the football scene? I'm watching football? Um, it seemed explosively overdone. I like, I've watched a lot of football with people and I've never seen them get so mad. And also like, would that happen your neighbor would be on the same remote as you? I think it was a thing back in the day I know it was for garage door openers. That's makes sense. But that's because there'd only be a few models I would think. I don't know, yeah. Man who fucking thawed that up? Like we we we we we we we we we we we we we we we we we'll like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, that, that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, tho, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that's, that, that's that, that, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that, 'll just have three different things that open three like to garage doors like what kind of brain genius was like we only need
Starting point is 00:16:47 three keys in the entire world you know I'm saying I'm maybe a master thief I guess I got this guys I'll put the key stuff together if you guys you guys go worry about other stuff and everyone was like yeah yeah that sounds good Ricky Ricky's got it. I'm so sick of opening this garage door. We see that fucking clown? Why would any parent consent to that clown doll? Why would anyone agree to it? I had a bunch of shit like that in my room when I was a kid. Really?
Starting point is 00:17:17 Because my grandmother would make it for me. Oh no. I think she hated me? Yeah, she did. She definitely did. Somewhere up there is a clown piggy bank that I had when I was a kid too. Oh my god. But yeah, like just weird dolls that she would like handcraft that I would googly eyes and just like sit in the corner of my room.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Yeah, it was weird. A lot of like marionette birds and stuff. What? Yeah, it was real weird. Meemol was a real weird lady. Yeah. Meema, get a job. Oh, man. Let me see the coolest parents in the world, smoking weed and reading about Reagan. I was going to say, weed in a Reagan book are very disparate 80s images, you know? Do you think Craig T was like, guys, I got to rep my boy in this one? I wish he was cool you know sure I wish he wasn't a dick I'm really into you finding him very handsome I'm today.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Oh my god he's a very striking dude yeah but I never noticed it before and he's not like classically handsome he's like balding a little bit he's a hot dad yeah he's a hot dad I guess here as I enter my 36th year, I'm into hot dads. Are you a hot dad? Don't call me, I'm married. I'm married, I'm married to him. I thought you were asking me, it was like, not that I know. I'm into hot dads. You were though, because you said would about Craig T Nelson and Joe Beth Williams. That's true. Call them both like, well, oh well. That sucked. She handled herself. I know, but like they're working at your house, you know? Later stealing your food? Yeah, just through the window. That was funny actually. Stealing your food is a lot funnier than harassing your teenage
Starting point is 00:18:56 daughter. And I'm pretty sure that one of those construction workers was the tracker dude from Predator. Oh really? Yeah, huh? The one that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their. their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. the their the. the. the. their the. their the. their the. their the. their their th dude from Predator. You said the ones that got murdered in that village they blew up. I mean, I, I, I, I, that that that that that's the the the the that's the the the the that's the the the that's the that's the the the that's the that's that's the that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that'm still mad about that. I mean I I you guys have seen this. I love
Starting point is 00:19:29 all the parenting stuff in this like him carrying Robbie back to bed. Yeah and just like all of that shit. I think yeah I think the reason this movie is so one of the reasons this movie is so good and so effective is that they are just like such a nice average family like you know suburban white middle class two and a half kids because Dana is not there most of the time like she's always hanging out that motel down the road yeah Dana you saw a lot But like, you're like, oh God, I wish this was my family. And then this terrible thing happens to them, which is where the next week's movie goes wrong, I feel. Oh yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Oh, in a big way. Yeah. Spoiler alert. So the thing with the TV happens again. Carolyn's looking into the TV when these smoky ghost hens start pouring out of it? Yeah. And then shoot a smoky ghost laser bean into the wall? Yeah, like ghosts do. Yeah, ghost lasers. Yeah. And then she delivers the line. Katie if you would. Bear here. So good. Yeah. A classic. Yeah. Which also gets co-opted in the next week's episode. But come on, come on, come on. Everything about it's bad.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Do you like there's a TV in every room in this house? That also feels very like middle class 1980s, actually. Yeah. That tiny TV in the kitchen? I remember people having that. Yeah. Just can't stop watching it? What are you going to turn the TV off? I guess not. Which is weird because it seems like we watch so much more TV now, right? the the their. their. th. the TV? th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the TV. th. th. thi. thi. thi. their, thi. their, thi. thi. the their their their thi. thi. their their their their th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their th. their thi. the. the. t. t. t. t. t.v.e. I don't know. Like, my parents, the television is never off. Really? Just on all the time. They must just burn through television sets. Because they're on 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Well, while they sleep? Yeah, while they sleep in front of the television. I'll they'll they'll they'll they're they're they're they're while. Yeah, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, while, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they, they're, they, they, they, they're they're their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, their, their their their their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their television, television, television, television, television, television, television, the television the television, the television, the television, the television, their their their their the. But yeah, the TV is just on constantly. That's hard. And they just... That's got to mess with your brain, you know? Yeah. But just like, I think they're just of that generation where you're like, you get a TV.
Starting point is 00:21:33 You hang out with your friend the TV. Yeah. Oh no, this is getting really sad. I don't know what sad or hanging out with your listening to the national anthem. One of them is very fucking patriotic, and I won't hear you. So mom is down for the phenomenon. Yeah, the chairs, and that, yeah, she loves it. But I think the implication is that she's kind of like a bored stay at home mom, you know. Right, former hippie, like stay at home mom. Would you let them go spoil your daughter
Starting point is 00:22:05 around? No, but I thought about it. I'm just telling her that she can go to pizza hut later. Now everybody's gonna get diarrhea. That brings up something I wanted to mention. Yeah. At minute 34 in this movie, it's right after the scene we were just talking about where they're sliding across the floor and sliding the chairs. It like cut, like mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid mid th, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no. No, no. No, no. No, no. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No, no, no, no. No. No, no, no. No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, no, no, no, thi, th movie, it's right after the scene we were just talking about where they're sliding across the floor and sliding the chairs. It like cuts mid-sentence when Craig T. Nelson is talking. Really? And then it opens up kind of mid-sentence at the neighbor's door. Okay. And apparently, according to IMDB, which is never wrong, always truth-tellers. At 34 minutes into the film, there's a jump, th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, the th, the th, the thi, the the the thi, the the the the the the the th, the th, the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. threateeeeeeeats, threats, threats, threats, thi. threats, thi. the thi. At 34 minutes into the film, there's a jump cut from the scene where Diane is explaining to Stephen
Starting point is 00:22:47 the feeling you get when the spirit pulls you across the floor. The scene jumps mid-sentence to the next scene on the neighbor's doorstep, where in the original scene, there was dialogue about how much Pizza Hut sucks. Oh, really? I thought, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi's thi's thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiauuuiauiauiaugh, th cut that because Pizza Hut was like, dog. Yeah, man. Dog. I thought in the 80s people liked Pizza Hut. They liked it in the 90s, I can tell you that.
Starting point is 00:23:12 Did they? Yeah, book it? Oh yeah, yeah. It was a big deal. Pizza Hut's fucking disgusting. Yeah, no, I know. It just tasks like oil. I know. I had someone explain the process of making Pizza Hut to me at one point where it's just like they have the frozen things and then they drench it in oil to make it expand into crust or something. What? That's crazy? It's
Starting point is 00:23:32 disgusting. Yeah. So don't need pizza hud. their pizza hut. And I will be cutting that mid-sentence and going into the next thing. Great. I I I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I they th. I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I they. I their, I th. I th. I th. I, I th. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, they, they, they, they, they, they, they. I they. I they. I, they. I, they. The neighbors are- No, because of the aforementioned remote issue seemingly. I feel like this is where the movie's like, what's up with these fat people next door, huh? Yeah. They were very, um, the Durzleys from Harry Potter. Just like, fat and seemingly stupid. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:03 I was like, hey guys. It was the 80s. And so the family is just kind of dealing with this phenomenon that's going on in that phenomenon that's going on in the house. Something like a. Baby. And like the dog is running up to the burnt spot and bringing it toys and whining at it? Yeah, that's weird. Yeah, that was disturbing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that was the the the the the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. that. that. Yeah. that. that. that. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that th. that that that that th. that was. that that that was that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. the is running up to the burnt spot and bringing it toys and whining at it? Yeah, that's weird. Yeah, that was disturbing. Yeah. This is where at the note, Jobeth is a fucking delight.
Starting point is 00:24:30 She is. She is. She really is. She's a treasure. Yeah, I feel like I know her from a lot of other things, but when I looked at her, I'm the. Yeah, she just feels like she's like, yeah. She's there. She's just with you. She's always with you. Omnipresent. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Just like a real Laura Linnie type. Yeah, Laura Linnie type. Yeah, I've been watchingney and this is Masterpiece Classics. What does, what is Masterpiece Classics? It's on PBS and just like, I've been watching the bottom Inspector Lewis, so. Did I mention I'm cool? A cool guy. Yeah, for sure. So this thunderstorm comes. This movie presupposes that it rains all the time in Los Angeles, right? Yeah, somewhere in like that area. It does not, it like, it hardly ever rains there, right?
Starting point is 00:25:27 Now, since the rainstorms have stopped since 1982 after this incident was time. Oh, I see the incident. Okay, sorry, carry on then. And they're also the most nightmarish thunderstorms you've ever seen. Just come in like yellow out of the sun and like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thrown. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. the the rain, sincethe fuck is up with that tree? Oh. Why is that tree so ugly? It's interesting you would say that. Did you notice later on when we find out what's going on with this neighborhood, that you find out under a very similar tree?
Starting point is 00:25:56 Like the Simpetico's Cemetery trees. I didn't notice that at all. Yeah, there's like faces on the tree and stuff, like creepy hidden in the tree faces. Really? Yeah, it's real weird. It's real weird. Real creepy. Everything goes bonkers and everything starts getting sucked into the closet. And Robbie gets nabbed by a tree with giant tree hands that pulls him outside and puts it in his tree mouth. Yeah so everything's going crazy and the family runs outside to get Robbie out of the tree leaving Carol Ann in the bedroom. Yeah. I don't know no no no no no no.
Starting point is 00:26:31 I don't know. She gets sucked in that closet. Yeah I don't know. take the boy child is being eaten by a tree. I don't know. Take the girl child with you. I don't know know. I tak tak the girl. I tak tak the girl. I tak. I tak. I tak. I tak. I the girl. I tak. I tak. I tak. I tak. I tak. I tak. I thea. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm the the the thea. I'll. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. I. I. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. This is where I have the note, the suckening looks so cool, which is what I called the closet. So I hear everything into it. I like that. Is it slow-mo? I feel like it's slow-mo. Which the, the- The sucking?
Starting point is 00:26:55 I think- Yeah, like some of it is. And the room up so it looked like she was falling. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I like that a lot. Yeah, it was real. Apparently she did not. No, I'm sure. And after they film the scene, there's something I read that like Stephen Spoburg just sat on the floor where they're holding her while she was crying and saying you don't have to to do it again. Oh God, I know it's her job, I get that. But you don't get to be the hero by being like, well, we're not going to make you, do it ever again. It's true. I feel like that's that like 70s, a tour, like director thing of like, I'm William Friedkin,
Starting point is 00:27:35 I'm punching you in the face to get scene where they are looking for Carolin after they get Robbie out of the tree and he's covered in poop. Tree poop. Tree poop. Uh, and they think they found Carlyan under the blanket. And it's that fucking clan. It's that clan? Why is it that clan? Oh my god. Why did that just happen? We're just tell everybody what just happened?
Starting point is 00:28:08 We're sitting here at a table. Behind Alan's back, what just fucking happened? There was a, uh, half a zombie? Sitting on top of an old furnace? Yeah, that's exactly what it was. And it just fell down. It was really scary. Why did that fall? I don't
Starting point is 00:28:25 know, Poltergeist. Oh my god. It's because I was making fun of the curse. Now we're cursed, thanks. You can't like to die. Get in line, curse. I'm sure I've got like three or four ahead of you. It's true. But you have a clown reveal under the blanket. Also, like, if you think it's your daughter, are you gonna like sit there and go, oh, no, you're just gonna grab them. Yeah, you're gonna grab them. There's gonna be some scooping and hugging. Yeah. Yeah, this is so fucking tense.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Yeah. I'm so tense talking about this right now. I know, so the next, we don't know wen, we don't wen, we don't wen, we don't we' we don't we' we' we' we' we' we' we' we' we' we' we' the next, we don't the next, we don't the the the, we don't the, we don't the, we don't the next, the, we don't the, the, the, the, the, the, there's gonna there's gonna there's gonna there's gonna there's gonna there's gonna there's. Yeah, there's. Yeah, there's. Yeah, there's. Yeah. Yeah, there's. Yeah. Yeah, there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the t. to, we, we, we, we, we, too. too. too. the team coming in. Don't don't skip over the pool. Oh I'm sorry go ahead. Because they think that she's in, they started digging a pool. Right, right, right, right. And earlier in the movie Joe Beth has been like, well what if one of the kids falls in the pool? You don't get a fucking pool. You don't get a fucking, their, the pool, the pool, the pool, their, their, their, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, their, th, th, th. th. th. th. Oh, th. Oh, thin, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to. Oh, tho. Oh, togu. Oh, togu's's. Oh, togu's togu's togu's to's, too's to they'll fucking drown. They'll figure it out. And that's terrible. So Stephen like runs in and dives into the dirt pool like mud and is swimming around. And he just looks so hot. Oh my god, I don't know why. It's so fucking tense. Yeah. But yeah, we don't know how much time like some amount of time has elapsed since Carolinas disappeared. Enough that they've become like inured to this room full of dancing and laughing objects,
Starting point is 00:29:48 which is my favorite scene in the movie, when he opens the door, like they're the, one of the members of the team that's come to research it is describing a matchbox car moving seven feet and seven hours. And he, like, Craig T N. Nels like, opens the door of the room and there's like, just madness, things floating in a, I can't remember what else, like what all there was. So there's a record that's spinning with a compass on it, so it's making noise? Yes, yes. The incredible Hulk is routing. Yeah, I like that.
Starting point is 00:30:17 So it's like, so the ghosts are just fucking with you? Yeah, they're just having a fun ghost time, which is almost ghost charming if they hadn't kidnapped that five-year-old girl. It's true. And then we just cut to the pair of psychologists are bugging out. Yeah. Like just sitting there talking them and shaking and like holding a teak and like they've like they're like the they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're like they're they're they're like they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, they're like, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to galing like to go like the only culling and we've they can hear carolan through the TV if it's on like a static channel right so they can communicate with her that way and Carlyan is communicating and everyone can hear and she's saying there's a light and Dr. Lesh our main parapsychologist is saying do not go into the light right and I get a little confused by this by what the light is and whether or not you're supposed to go into it. Yeah. We'll talk about that. Yeah. You can explain that to me? I know. I mean, I think Dr. Lush thinks it's like the portal to the next world. Yeah. But then when uh, Tanjina shows up. Yeah. I love her. And I'm so happy to learn that she's ours. Pittsburgh's own.
Starting point is 00:31:25 And I noticed she has a bit of a Pittsburgh accent in this. She says when she says, this house is clean, she says, this house is clean. Listen to it. If you can even drop the line in here. This house is clean. She also says, go downstairs, which is a very Pittsburgh to say. She said, oh no, co-gays. Hey, no, co-gays. I'm sorry, so when she comes, she says, to go into the light.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Because she knows that it's just like a pathway to pass through, to come back to this world. Or at least she's assuming that. She makes a lot of dangers as sometimes. She's also not super good at her job, as we learn by the end of this movie. No, she's doing the best she can, that's what she's got. And with people constantly making lollipop guild jokes and Wizard of Oz jokes at her and stuff. Yeah. She's four foot three. She is. Not like a little person just four foot three. Isn't that little person territory? She doesn't have dwarfism. She doesn't have any of the like other, she just is that small.
Starting point is 00:32:28 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Born in Squirrel Hill, apparently. Oh, you're working. I'm going to say yes. Yeah, my alma mater, HDP. That's all. This is her first acting job? No. Yes. Wow. Yeah, I'mthink so. That's awesome. I'm gonna say yes. Yeah. Yeah, she's also in a really great movie by your boy, Dario Argento. My boy and yours, Darryo Argento. Called Opera. Ah, yeah. She's also in a really great movie called Teen Witch. Teen Witch? Yeah. Is it a teen that's a sandwich? Yeah. Excellent. I guess that would be called Teen Hogi. Hey, tea! Hey! Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. Yeah. Yeah. that. Yeah. that. I that. I that. I that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. the I guess that would be called Teen Hogi. Hey, Teen Hogi. Hey, get that down, Cocoa's. I know Coguos. Okay. I'm done.
Starting point is 00:33:11 So yeah, she's not supposed to go into the light. The ghosts give them a bunch of like trinkets and watches and necklaces. Yeah, what was that? It was stuff that was in their graves. Gotcha. Why do they give it away? Uh, because, as we all know, you're supposed to give it away, give it away, give it away, give it away now. As soon as I said, give it away, I was like, Alan's gonna say it, he's gonna do it. I like felt myself lobbing the ball up and saw you bringing the bat just... Ha!
Starting point is 00:33:37 Ha! Hoh! Hone, ladies and gents. I think, I always sort of assume that they were like, we're going to keep her, here's some stuff. Yeah, well, let's make up for the loss of your third child. She's the third, to be fair. You have two others. She's like a spare. Yeah, it's true. If you, you have more that right now, sorry.
Starting point is 00:34:05 We didn't mean you. No, there are people who are in the same situation and look just like you. So this is where we get the scene when Carlin, so Carillon like runs down the stairs, they can hear her running and being chased by someone. Yeah, and she's screaming for her mother. God help me. And her mom's standing at the steps, they can hear her running and being chased by someone. Yeah, and she's screaming for her mother. God help me. And her mom's standing at the steps, and you hear footsteps come down the steps and then wind moves through Joe Beth Williams.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Yeah. And she turns around and she's just crying and says I can smell her and make Craig T Nelson smell it, smell her sweater. Yeah. And I was just like, oh my heart, this this this. I was going to ask you, as I'm assuming, well, this is the first time you watch it as a mom, and it just destroy you. Everything is terrible, yeah. Everything I watch destroys me now. Someday I'm going to die and what might be worse is that my kid could die before me.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Jesus Christ. Is this why people start watching the family guy? I don't know. Rob recently asked me if I'd start watching South Park with him and I was like, I'm so fucking Lutely not. It is not for me. Start watching South Park in 2019. I know, it keeps, it like keeps popping up on our Hulu, like maybe you heard of this? Maybe you'd like it? And he's like, maybe I would. No, dude. Just re-watch parks and wreck your fives. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their. their. th. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thoom. th. th. th. Rob. Rob. th. Rob. Rob. Rob. Rob. Robe. Robed. Parks and Rec your fine we are we're in like middle of the the second to last season yeah it's great you heard with Perd I say it constantly yeah the thing that we are about to discuss is what we are discussing then I had the note and now I'm crying yeah we should stop crying to the the the the. the thi. the thi. the thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the thi. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they... I. the note, and now I'm crying. Yeah. We should stop crying when we watch these movies. We should watch some movies that don't make us cry.
Starting point is 00:35:48 You gonna ask the sun to stop shining? You could ask water to stop making people wet? How are you gonna ask me to stop crying? Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I wish I could figure out what does it make me cry? And then I would just watch that. Um, sports? Yeah, I'm not a guy for sports though.
Starting point is 00:36:10 I don't do the sports stuff. Well, I'm just saying, it'll keep you very neutral, you know? I feel like I would cry watching sports. I sometimes cry watching sports. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the blast of wind knocks everybody down and whatever's chasing or knocks everybody down and who is that dude Marty, Marty gets bit. They gets bit by some monster mouth. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like a shark bite on his side. And so they're all staying, all three of the peril psychologists are staying in the house with the family. Is this, is it, if we, did we skim over making or I guess we're gonna do it good oh my gosh just yeah I feel like I would not agree to stay in this house but but you're not a bare psychologist type
Starting point is 00:36:53 person. Well I am not no no no no you don't share that with Zelda. Yeah this is where Marty gets up and he's like hey I, I'm gonna go get something to eat. Just gonna go fucking root through their fridge. Is that cool? And their fridge is stocked and I'm loving it because they haven't been going out of the house. I'm like, yeah. And they didn't have grocery delivery then. No. No, no, no low fresh. mean, I can't get over the silliness of just having a slab of meat sitting on like your
Starting point is 00:37:26 your refrigerator shelf. He just pulls it out of the fridge like, and then slaps it on the counter that is so contaminating. And it was right next to the unwrapped chicken that he was eating too. Okay, new theory, they didn't have a balderguist they all had food. I know, they're just hallucinating. And also, was he just gonna like cook that steak in a pan while everyone was sleeping? It's kind of dick too. I had the weirdest dream. It's gonna stink. It's gonna get grease everywhere. Maybe he was just steering it a real quick flip flip. Maybe, maybe he is a vampire. Would they eat raw meat? No. Vampires? No, it's gotta be alive. Yeah, why would I even say that? I'm that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. that's just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just. that's just. that's just. that's just. that's just. that's. that's. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th? No, it's got to be alive. Yeah, why would I even say that? I'm the worst horror movie. I saw what happened to Tom Cruise in interview with the vampire. Oh yeah. He got all weird and cold.
Starting point is 00:38:14 I mean, very chilly. The steak is on the counter and then starts Wibble-wobbling across the counter. I love that. And then pushing way way way than is inside of the steak out of itself? Yeah. Which is real gross. It's super gross. And he drops the chicken wing out of his mouth onto the floor, or drumstick I guess I was.
Starting point is 00:38:34 It is when he drops the drumstick stick out of his mouth, it's filled with maggots. I love that. How is your the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. It, th. It, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. th. It's, thi. It's, thi. It's, thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is thi, is thi, is thi, is the th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's throoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. It's th. How are your, how's your noodles? Michael? Rice, rice, fuck it. I don't even know I'm talking about anymore. Vampires, what are you eating? Chinese food. So he goes into the bathroom to spit out the baggets into the sink and watch his face. The light goes wonky and then his face starts feeling. It looks so good. It looks so great. It looks so great and then he starts like picking it off almost like just touching it and it's falling it's splatting in the sink and it's blood everywhere and I fucking love it. And then the lights go back to normal and he's totally fine.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Yeah. Except Betty pooped himself. Oh my god he definitely was standing and shitting. Fun fact, if you stand up all your shitting, the national anthem starts playing. It's true, it's part of the Constitution is my understanding. I forgot that I had the note, yo, Cheetos are delicious. I believe that you believe that. I also know that the hands that are ripping the skull apart are Stephen Spielberg's hands. Oh yeah. Why do I know that? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Why are the hands ripping the skull apart, Steven Sielberg's hands? I don't know. No one else had hands? This the time. There's smoke pouring up from down the stairs. Is this when all the apparations, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, thi, thi, thi, the, oh this is when all the apparitions come down the steps. Yes. And like this, super spooky. Yeah, it looks so good.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Yeah. It reminded me so much of Ghostbusters. But like the weird like floaty apparition people. You mean Ghostbusters too when they all come off the Titanic? What's this now? That scared me a lot in ghoststers too when I was a little kid and they and they and they and they and they they they they they they they they they they they all they and they all start coming off the Titanic. I love that so much. So good. It's scary. Go back and look at it.
Starting point is 00:40:28 It's scary. I haven't watched that movie in years. I own it. I should watch it. It's scary. You'd be like, oh, no. theyfors, the apparitions and stuff, because they're like, this kid's got to go and E-Buzz leaves with him.
Starting point is 00:40:48 And Dana has been gone on and off for most of the movie. I'm not sure why she's really even in this movie. I guess we're comic relief? I guess. Oh, and there's that great scene where, when they first hear Carol carolan without all the paraps psychologist and she runs over and hugs Craig T. Nelson that just seems like super honest Yeah, yeah, oh man. Got to be right my goddamn heart meets Jesus. I feel like we're just um people who are very touched by nice families and we're like, oh, look at it. They're so nice. Oh my god. A hundred percent true. It's a little brutal. And then we meet mr. Teague. Really they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're? I I I I I I they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're like, they're like, they're like, they're like, they're like, they're like, they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their their their th. I they're th. I they're they're they're th. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they And then we meet Mr. Teague.
Starting point is 00:41:25 Really thought you were going to say Mr. Tee. And I was like, no dude. I'm afraid of the ghost. Yeah. Who's Mr. Teague? He is Craig D'Neillsen's boss. Oh, okay, okay, okay. Okay, yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:36 Where do you know him from? I don't. Oh, no me think. No I don't know. I could tell you that he used to do commercials for the Pathmark brand Supermarkets. Pathmark was not a thing that existed in Western Pennsylvania ever. And apparently he was doing them at the same time this movie came out and people would send him a hate mail about how can he do that to that nice family. Oh my god I love that. He is that I that I that I that I that I that I that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the the. the the the. theat. that's that's that's that's the. that's the. that's that. He is the guy who's training the kid at Unita medical supply in return of the living dead. Okay, we'll re-watch it, okay? We'll re-watch it and I'm sorry. Stop bringing it up. It's literally what I remember. And this is what we find out that the house is built
Starting point is 00:42:21 on a cemetery. Not an Indian burial ground as everyone thinks about this movie. Yeah. Yeah. And he, Mr. Teague jokes. He's like, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, th, th, th, th, th, we we th, we th, we th, we the the the the the the the th, we the the the th, we thi, we the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the is built on a cemetery. Not an Indian burial ground, as everyone thinks about this movie. Yeah. And Mr. Teague jokes, he's like, it's not like it's an Indian burial ground. Right, it's just a regular people of burial. Does he say that regular people? Maybe not. I wouldn't be surprised.
Starting point is 00:42:37 But I was like, oh, that's fun. That's a cute little nod to that that that that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that theory that that that that that that that that that that that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a cute. that's a cute, that's a cute. that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. t. toda. toda. today. today. today. today. today. that's today. that's that's that's that would come out after this movie. I guess, yeah. And then Zelda fucking Rubinstein shows up. Yeah, she is like the best para-psychologist I guess. She's like the big guns that they bring in, like this is above my pay grade. Yeah, and she talks in a very slow and deliberate voice, which I like a lot. It's her accent is insane. She's as a Pittsburgh accent is doing a southern accent and neither is necessary. But like a high-end southern accent. Yeah, she's a blancho-dead, yeah there would be a mint julep in her life. Yes, yes. Tangina. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:16 Tangina Barons. Tangina is a really unfortunate name, what do you think? Because when I read it I just go tangina. Tangina. What's tangina. Yes. Yes. Yes. And a tangina. And a tangina. And a tangina. And a t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t tangina. And a tangiana. tangina. tangina. tangina is a thinea is a tangina is a tangina is a tangina is a tangina is a tangina. Tangina is a t. Tangina is a t. Tangina is a t. Tangina is I read it I just go, tangina. What's up, tangina? Yep. And a tan gina, I feel like you're in danger of getting a burn gina, so make sure you SPF that shit. I'm leaving. I'm going home. I have the note she says some mumbo jumbo. She definitely says some mumbo jumbo. The goats want Carolans, the goats, the ghosts want Carolands life force. They don't know they've passed on, yada yada, there's an evil presence. And now she should go to the light. Right. But we don't know why. Because Tangina is all over this. She's like light, yes, put some rope on, go through. She also doesn't really seem to know what she's doing either, though. I love the scene where she's in a room that's super loud with wind and light, really loud
Starting point is 00:44:14 lights. When lights get loud, it's deafening. And Joe Booth Williams was like, I should go. And Joe Booth is like, to the, to the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the the the thean, thea, thea, thea, the the the the the And Tanjina's like, no, no, I'll go. You've never done this before. And Joe Boeth is like, yeah, me there of you. And she's like, you're right. Yeah, I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:44:31 Yeah, right. So Joe Beth goes through, or Diane goes through. They do like a test with a baseball. baseball, it works. Yeah, so basically they found that the one entrance to the portal is in the children's closet and the other entrance is like, or the exit I guess, to the portal is hanging above the living room downstairs. Yeah. I love that they have it all like roped off and stuff. Yeah. Yeah. She goes through, yeah. And gets Carol Ann. It comes out covered in what, Jello? Ah, ectoplasmic residue. According to Wikipedia.
Starting point is 00:45:08 Ghost Jellow. I like what they're throwing the baseball through, and the guy catches it and goes, Kiss my ass. Yeah, it's my handwriting. What if it was a baseball that had been dropped through, but someone else is handwriting? Just got Babe Ruth written on it. Ah Pete Rose, he still left. He should be in the hall. Everybody knows it. Don't you agree? I do agree. Man invented that slide. It's ridiculous. Oh. Bet on his team.
Starting point is 00:45:39 He bet on his team. You should bet on your team. I agree. I think. Pete Rose, he invented that haircut and that fucking slide. So they get through, there's a giant monster skull that like scares everybody. Yeah. That looks like it might be made out a really cool toilet paper. Yeah, I liked it. Me too. The beast. Is this the beast?
Starting point is 00:46:05 Yeah, yeah. Carolan and Diane fall through. Stephen picks them both up, runs them into the bathtub. Or I guess they carry them into the bathtub. And they're laying in there and they're like, you know, Diane's not breathing, Carlyan's not breathing. And you can see Heather O'Rourke is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling is struggling. not to breathe or blink. Yeah, it looks like she's tried not to laugh. Yeah, little kids. Such a bad employees, you know. And then this is where Tanjina says to the camera. Yeah, she almost like turns
Starting point is 00:46:38 and nods. These house is clean. And the movies are ever. It was really good. Yeah, that's it. Yeah. Yeah. And then they're moving out. Yeah. No. No. There's one more night of hell. So they're supposed to be moving out, but like a lot of their shit is not packed. They are the worst. I mean, I have done that too, but I am not a family of five. No. And Steve goes to do something. thia. thia. thia. thia. thia. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the too, but I am not a family of five. And Steve goes to do something and Dana is out doing something. So it's just Diane with the two younger kids. Yeah. And she's got to dye that gray right out of her hair. Oh right, now she's gray in her hair. I thought that that gray looked dope. She should have kept it. Yeah, she's also 31 is what they tell us. And Dana is like 16, they tell us. And th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thian, thi, thi, thi, thian, thian, thian thian thian thian, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. Yeah, thiiiiiiiii. thiii. Yeah, thiii. Yeah, thi's thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, they tell us. I know what's going on with that. In an original draft of the script, Diane is his second wife.
Starting point is 00:47:28 What? I mean, they didn't make that very clear. No, no, no, no. They took that out, but didn't read that age. I thought, oh damn, she had her at 15. That's hard. Yeah. who have teen pregnancies. I mean, I've seen teen mom on MTV. I was going to say no by what MTV is showing up. Honestly. I will say most of their stuff is packed up.
Starting point is 00:47:52 That fucking clown is still sitting in a goddamn chair. Just leave it though. Burn it! Leave it! Oh my God. I love this scene because, Joe Beth is like, hey, Robbie, I need you to listen for the phone in case anybody calls. I'm gonna go on the bath. I'm gonna luxuriate in this amazing fucking bathtub. I would never let those children out of my sight again. Just a belt with leads going off of both of them.
Starting point is 00:48:15 Like you're standing, taking a shit listening to the vational. And the belt is going under the door, they're waiting for you outside. So Robbie immediately goes to sleep. Mom falls asleep in the tub, or at least is like just cow-gone and the fuck out of it. You can't do that. No, no, you should. You shouldn't do that. Doesn't it gets cold and sad.
Starting point is 00:48:35 Yeah, then you wake up all pruny. Yeah, and you're just like, what have I done with my life? Me too. Me too. So Robbie hears a noise as he's falling asleep, looks in the chair where the clown was, it's missing, so he tentatively looks under the bed, which is where you look because that's where everything scary is, comes back up and the clown is grimacing at him behind him and starts choking him. That clown fucking blows. Yeah, it's a bad clown. Why? Why? Is the poulter gaise gai case guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys guys th gase gist gist gist gist gist gist gaiting th. the the thi thi. thi. the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to t. t. t. teeeateateat. teat. teat. teat. teat. teat. teat. teat. teat. it, is the Poultry Gaise possessing this clown doll?
Starting point is 00:49:05 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I like that the Poultrgeist was like, what's the creepiest fucking thing in this house? That clown doll? I am in. I am into it. Oh, man, I hate it. Yeah. It's so creepy. It's awful. It's awful. It's awful. It's a awful. It's a that. the the the th. the the the the the the th. It's a the the th. It's a th. It's a the th. It's awful. It's awful. It's a thi.ening mechanism was tight. And they were like, that kid's really acting. Oh shit, he's turning purple. Oh my God. Kids, terrible employees. Need to be choked. Joe Beth's running around trying to save the kids.
Starting point is 00:49:35 She guess that thing happened to her where she gets dragged up the wall onto the ceiling. Yeah. Yeah, the totally stole this like two years later in Nightmare in Elm Street. Right? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. With Tina's death? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. and directed that. She did the stunts? Did she? She's part Spider-Man. I have the note the closet starts its shit again. I know, it's back on its bullshit. And like slimy fingers are coming out the sides of it now.
Starting point is 00:50:15 I liked that a lot. I liked it when it turned into just like a muck pit, you know. It's real gross. The Kellows caption came up squishing and deep croning and I was like, what movie am I watching? Joe Beth falls into the pool, pools filled with skeletons. Those were apparently real. Yeah, and she didn't know it. Oh man. Yeah, I wouldn't tell her beforehand either. Would you? Yeah, if you're putting somebody in water, like stuff's going to come off them, right? Well, they're probably real well cleaned. They're not like they just fucking they just like they they they they they they just like like like like like they just like like like like like they just like they just like like like like they just like like like they just like. they just like. They just like. They just like. It they just like. they just like. I they just like. I they just like. I they they they they just like. I they just like. I just just just like like like like like like. I just just just just not like like like like like like like like like like. I just just just just just like like like like like. I just just like. I'm just not like. I'm just like stuff's gonna come off with them, right?
Starting point is 00:50:46 Well, they're probably real well cleaned. They're just not like they just fucking dug them up. They're just probably like science cadet. I thought they were just buried on a native pool. Oh, oh, oh, this movie was actually taking place on a burial ground. A regular people. The neighbors won't help them, which was real cool. I think they're confused. Wouldn't you be confused? But like if someone's
Starting point is 00:51:10 like, hey help me, you're probably gonna be like... I don't know, have they used their remote to change your Mr. Rogers off your TV? It's true. I mean as as as Pittsburgh's, we have to get infuriated about someone changing Mr. Rogers. Yeah. Only if it was to watch. the the the the their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they they they they they they're they're they're they're. they're. I'm. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I Yeah. Only if it was to watch the Stillers could they equal those things. Yeah. Nem Stillers. I love the elongated hallway when. I love that scene. I love that shot so much. I was hoping we could talk about it.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Just that I really love it. It's so great because like at first she's like put off by the hallway and then she just started booking down the hallway real under that. Yeah. She gonna save those kids. The casket that's blowing out the front door like they're just casting erupting now. Yeah it's it's confusing as to why it's happening now and just at their house, right? It was a very small graveyard. And then the boss shows up so that he can get yelled at. Yeah why is he there? to try and get the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that th. that that th th th th th th th to the the the the the the the casked th. Uh that their that that tasked tasked tasket tasket tasket tasket tasket tasket tasket tha tasket tasket tasket thus thus that that that that that ththen the boss shows up so that he can get yelled at. Yeah, why is he there? To try and get Stephen back. Oh, right, because he's done 42% of the sales and he's not a partner.
Starting point is 00:52:13 What the fuck is this? Did you, the math magician inside of you love it when he said, you've done 40% of our sales that's more than half. Did you say that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th say that th say that that that th, th, thi thi thi thi thi thi that thi, thi, that that's that's that's that's that's thi, thi, thateate. that's that's that's that's th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. I didn't hear that now. That's great. The house implodes, they all drive away. Yeah, they get to the motel, the Dana is familiar with. Oh yeah, that place. They go into the hotel and then close the door,
Starting point is 00:52:39 and then open it again and push the TV outside. I love that the TV's on a wheeled stand. So good. Yeah. And then Spoldergeist. Oh, so fucking good. I'm so glad you love this movie. Oh, yeah. Everybody loves this movie, don't they? I would hope so.
Starting point is 00:52:52 I would think so. What kind of monsters? Let's talk about them. I don't know. People who don't like hot dads. People who don't like cute kids. People exist? People who don't like ghosts? Yeah. Mm-hmm. People who don't like Spielberg? To those people exist? I don't think. No. No. He's got something for everyone. Yeah, yeah. Jaws. That's something for everyone. The greatest and most inclusive film of all time, a jaws. The Ultima Squalo. The Ultima Squalo. The Last Shark.
Starting point is 00:53:29 God, that was a great movie. Classic. Never, I couldn't close its mouth. I think about that all the time. I think about the, I just like, sometimes just picture a shark swimming around with this mouth, I'm like, The Lockjaw Shark. I know, that's so sad. Katie, let's rate this fucker. Okay, you go first. Ten? Yeah, I thought you were the fucking ten. Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is like, it's in my 84 to 87 wheelhouse.
Starting point is 00:53:58 Ah, but it's 1982. Yeah, but it would have been on HBO in 84. That's fair. I don't think I would have seen until I was 10 till it was like on the TV. I don't think my parents took me to see Boulder guys. No, they weren't like Little Allen wants to see Poultr guys. Although it did go down, they got it down to a PG rating because there was no PG-13 titties in this film. It's a 10. There's nothing wrong with this movie at all. It's perfect. Yeah, I agree. 10. Yeah. Done and done. Yeah, done and dusted. Katie. Alan. I like that you mention titties. Yeah, I love to mention titties. I do it in every episode. It's going to go in with something here from the mail bag. Hi Alan and Katie. Hi. Nick here, emailing from Ireland. Oh,

I knew as soon as I said it, to the national anthem started playing. It's like, you know when words won't stay in your mouth? Oh yeah, do I? Does my partner hate that I have that problem? Everybody has that problem. Love the podcast and recommend to all my pals who are looking for horror movie podcast.
