And I was like, I ate the nibs. And he was like, all right.

Of course it was. favorite movies when I was a kid. Yeah. Can we talk about that movie? So like hereditary right? Popular about a year ago? Here we are. Yeah, yeah, less than a year ago. We're still in the year window. Yeah. Are we still a new movie? It's free on prime,

I believe while I was watching it, I sent you a, we were chatting during a pause because I kept pausing the movie. All right, I'm going to get back to this emotional dick bunch of a movie. It really is. It really is. And it's, it's, it's, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful, it's beautiful And it's it's it's beautiful. Oh, it's gorgeous. I love that opening shot of like the, I don't want to say dollhouse because that's not really what it is like the miniatures her art. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It like. the try. thi. the the. thrown. the tha. the toy. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. 't even tell where that like I feel like I've seen that shot in other movies but like it's not worked as well it like it wonks a little yeah it does not want my god and you can tell like every single shot of that movie was thought out like yeah it's it's really beautifully done and it's this Ari Esther's first movie has he been working on it for like
Starting point is 00:02:22 30 years or something is that like is the guy who would never be as good as Mozart? Oh, Salieri. Salieri. Yeah. Didn't he have a thing that he was, forget it. This is all very stupid. I made a secret of NIM reference. I should just lock it up. Thrope. So I was like, well, what is this guy done? And he's done a bunch of a th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. th. the th. the the th. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. Forget. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's, the. He's, the. He's, the. He's, the. He's, the. He's, the. He's, the. He's, the. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. he's done a bunch of short films. And he's well known for this movie called The Strange Thing about the Johnson's. Okay. Which is a movie where he and the star of the movie wrote it to explore, unexplored taboos, basically. And it's a movie about an abusive relationship between a son and a father, but the son is abusing the father.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Yikes. And I watched it. Oh. And I'm real mad at my eyes for having seen it. Bad or upsetting? I mean, yes. It's like it's like Lars Von Cheer level, like, go fuck yourself.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Yeah, look how subversive I am. Look how edgy I am? Yeah, yeah. Which this movie movie, to to this movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie movie to to to this movie movie movie movie toe toe toe toe the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, tho, tho, thoooooo, tho, thooomea, thoomeououou? thoomeououou? th. th. th. thoom, the th. the the the the the the the the the used to. Yeah. Look how subversive I am. Look how edgy I am. Yeah. Yeah. Like. Which this movie to its credit does not really do. I don't think it's like, oh, this is so subversive. I think it is button pushy though. You mean like the scene where she's laying on the floor screaming, I just want to die it hurts too much? Yeah, yeah. I was like, oh, I think. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's thi, thi. thi, thi, thi, this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi this movie this movie this movie Yeah. But I don't feel like it's exploitative other. You know what I mean? Yeah, for sure. I think any time, if you haven't seen this way,
Starting point is 00:03:51 we're going to spoil it. Oh my god, everyone saw this movie before me already. Everyone except for me, literally on this planet, has seen this movie. I think any time there's a graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, the graphic, th. I th. I th th to to to to to to to to to the the to to to the to be to be like, to be to be the thi thi. to be to to to to to to to to to to th. It th. It went th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It's th. It's the the the the the the the the an the an the an the an the an to the an to the an to to the an the an the an the an the an the. Yeah, which is a shame because like the acting is great. And although Gabriel Burn, I'm like, what's you doing? What's you doing, guy? Can I tell you something?
Starting point is 00:04:30 Please. For a while I thought maybe he was dead and a ghost. Because he's such a ghost in this movie. The character is a ghost. He's just like a glass of milk that's in the end that he was also that he was a psychiatrist yeah I was like what yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah so the the the the the the the the the the the fuh yeah yeah the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the so the movie begins with a funeral. Yeah. It is, I don't remember what her name, Ellen, I guess, is Ellen's the mother. It is her funeral and her daughter Annie, played beautifully by Tony Collette, is giving the eulogy.
Starting point is 00:05:19 And she says something about like, oh, my mother was a very private person. And for a moment I kind of wished, like, I wish I was a private person. So I'm just like airing my shit, like literally just waving my underpants out the window to the internet. And then by the end of the movie, I was like, oh, no, no, no, word. I'm glad everyone knows everything about me. I love the whole like, she had like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th.. th. th. th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the talk being up here talking about her seems like a betrayal and I was like like this being the second
Starting point is 00:05:50 time I've seen this movie and I was like oh oh yeah oh hello uh huh did you happen to notice well let's talk about this later let's get into okay I got questions that I'm gonna look for if I ever watch this movie again my first note is I had sworn I wasn't gonna watch this movie again he tho th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th the th th th tho the tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thi the the the the' the' the' thi thi their the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee thoo tho the the for if I ever watch this movie again, which I'm never even watching this movie again. My first note is I had sworn I wasn't going to watch this movie again. Here we go. I like that you put that in a larger font than the rest of your notes too. I can see it from here. Ha ha ha ha. So the funeral is very awkward. It doesn't seem like she was the kind of person you should have a funeral for. No, but a lot of people are there, including the smiling creeper. The smiling creeper. There's a guy standing at the end of her casket and when Charlie goes up to say, like,
Starting point is 00:06:35 take a today to her grandmother, he's just standing there smiling and nodding a little bit at it? Yeah. Is that the guy at the end? The naked? I thought that was Gabriel Byrne. I know, I was like, is he looking at his dad's donger right now? I know, I was very confused by who that was. Yeah, no. Because one of the guys was his history teacher later, right? Oh, was it? I think so. Oh, probably.
Starting point is 00:06:57 I don't know. they're just supposed to be people. Okay, I'm pretty sure they reused that actor then. I covered them in flower. Yeah. And we kind of learned that Charlie has some sort of special bond to her grandmother. Right, when she was born, so yeah, we learned that when Alex, or not, I'm sorry, when Peter was born, Grandma wasn't in their life. They had like, they had, no contact. Yeah. And so she She got sick and then, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th. th. th. th. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're life. They had like they had no contact. Yeah, and so she got sick and then Charlie was born and grandma Took over taking care of Charlie like wanted to feed her But did you notice that one of the miniatures was the breastfeeding? Yeah. How? That doesn't work? You can't just like breastfeed any time you want? I thought it was the mom. Was it? The grandmother breastfeeding her? It was? It looked like it was Annie in th. That? That? That? That? That? That? th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th the th the th th th the the th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thic thic thic thic thic thic thic the thic the thic the thic the the the the the th. the th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. She th. She th. She th. She th. She th. She th. She th. She th. She was th. She was th. She was th. She was thi thi thi thi thi thi the thi the the the the the thi the they the they thi thi thi thi thi thi th was the mom, was it the grandmother breastfeeding her? It was, it looked like it was Annie in bed holding her infant and her mother was standing over her with her breast out, yeah. I guess maybe that's art. Maybe I don't get art. See also a velvet buzz saw. Also a Tony Colette vehicle, as I'm calling it. She's barely in the movie. Yeah, Shining Star, Tony Collett.
Starting point is 00:08:08 So yeah, Charlie and Grandma had a really, a really tight and weird bond. And Charlie is a confusing character because we don't really get to know her. Right, she's extremely secretive and like doesn't really interact with her family. Yeah, or anyone. We find her sleeping in the tree house when, on the day of the funeral. A, how dope is that tree house? Don't you wish someone had loved you enough to build you a tree house? Oh man. Yes. Look, parents out there, if you have trees and you love your kids, build a bit on a tree house or like pay someone to do it if you're not handy. Like I don't know how good you are with a hammer and nail but like oh man
Starting point is 00:08:46 and then like just drive into the hospital real quick when they fall and break their arm because they're gonna they're gonna it'll be fine. That tree house was way too high for a little kid you going into also like their house oh yeah where did this movie take place the Pacific Northwest? California? There was like weird deserts and stuff? Yeah. And mountains, but also like lush greenery. Yeah, you get all that in the, maybe it was the Pacific Northwest, because you can get all that weird stuff. Yeah, sometimes.
Starting point is 00:09:13 They saw this weird, arid zones. Sometimes. Sometimes it's an Arctic tundra. It's a mixed bag. You never know what the fuck you're going the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the fuck you're gonna get in Portland. Yeah. I assumed it was California. I mean it could have been Utah. It could have been like... Oh who those in Utah? Just kidding some of our listeners do. Welcome to the podcast. Oh I love the whole thing when they get home from Grandma's funeral and
Starting point is 00:09:40 Annie's just like, should I be sadder? Oh, God feel that's so hard. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Also in movies, people always sleep in double beds, and I don't get that. How are you fitting in there? Like, two adults? Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:56 I don't know. I don't know. I'm a giant human being. I don't even know if I'd I don a double-fix. It's just, it's like no one's comfortable. So then we see Peter at school being like a teenage boy, smoking weed, staring at butts, and they're like, like the conversation in the classroom is about being a pawn and a hopeless machine and I was like, ah I'm sure this will have nothing to do with the rest of the film. That he's oblivious. That's like, thi. the the the the they. thiiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. S. th. th. thious too, because he's staring at butts. Oh man, that's actually not bad that he's oblivious. Okay, fine, whatever.
Starting point is 00:10:26 I love Annie's the mom and she's the artist and Charlie is also an artist, making her weird like little robot mannequin people toys. Yeah, it was cool. And she chops the head, like, so she's not paying attention in class because she's making a toy and the teacher the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the toy. the toy. toy. the toy. toy. the the the the the the the the their their th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's that's th. I's that's, th. I's, th. I is th. I is th. I is th. I is they is they is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I is. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm t t toy. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm t t. I'm. I'm. I'm t t t t t t t t t t t toy and the teacher reprimands her and as she's being reprimanded a bird hits the window and breaks its neck yeah and then she goes and chops the bird's head off and puts it in her pocket yeah I love this kid no wonder no one's talking to Charlie at school you know question about the trylape yes why are they sending her anywhere without an epipen I don't know if my child had a life-threaten to to't let her leave like the bathroom without an epiphen.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Especially not to go to a fucking high school party. It's a being described as a barbecue, you know there's going to be food there. Like, why would she? And the fact that they're always asking her if she's eating nuts? Yeah, maybe just like prepare her for the case that it happens. Yeah, whatever. She doesn't th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th th th th th th th thi th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, that that that that that that, thi, tho tho tho tho tho tho thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. It's th. It's th. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. thi. thi. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi. to the thi. the th case that it happens. Yeah, whatever. She loves chocolate though. Who doesn't? Who doesn't? So we get some background on Annie's family when she goes to this like grief counseling for her mother. But but I want to say this. Yes. Although, okay, well, like later in the movie it's revealed that Annie is an unreliable narrator, but you don't get that yet. Right, right. So when she's telling the story you're like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like. Like. the. th. th. the. th. th. the. th. th. the. th. the, the, th. the, th. the, the, the, th. the, the, the, the, th. they. the, th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. te. te. te. te. th. th. th. th. th. th. th.. So when she's telling the story, you're like, oh my God. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:46 But like, is it true? I get that she's saying her brother schizophrenic and he was saying that the mother was trying to put people inside him, which, oh, wait, I guess she was. Yeah. Okay, so maybe she was, thii's. th. th. th. that. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's that she's. that she's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's a. that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's saying. that. that. that's saying. that. that. that. that. that. that's saying. that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that said that he was he had some sort of like suicidal disorder and killed himself. And I was like oh grandma definitely killed grandpa. Yeah. Probably. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I just want to say like I love I love that like Rosemary's baby and all those movies that just have like oh there's just like a cult of old people people. Yeah. Just doing like old people's Satanism stuff. When is the cult revealed to us, like late in the movie, right?
Starting point is 00:12:29 Oh, not until, yeah, almost the very end of it, yeah. I kind of didn't like the cult aspect of it. Okay. I want to be honest. When I was reading about this movie, apparently it started off as a, like, family drama, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to, to, to, th. to, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, th. to, th. to, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, drama, like an extreme family drama, and then like he's a really big fan of horror movies, so he like brought those elements into it. Because the idea of the hereditary thing is that like they were passing down this demon basically, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:57 But also, but I mean the demon is psychological disorders, right? And also just like the, like the family traumas you can't get away from either, like Charlie's death. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, that's also the demon in your life, right? God, I couldn't. I mean, it'll eat you from the inside out.
Starting point is 00:13:17 Like, it'll kill you. It seems so unbelievably destructive. And yet Peter got like no time off from school, which I thought was a little bit shitty, especially considering his role and reaction to the accident. Like, it seemed like you went back to school like two days later. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe just let him take a semester off. I...
Starting point is 00:13:39 That part of the movie, I'm just like, I don't even, I don't even know, like, having seen it twice, I don't know how to process that. I don't even love my brother and I would feel bad if I killed him. Is that what you mean? What is the, so Peter good takes her to the party, she takes Charlie to the party, she has a, she goes into like an an anhylactic shock shock from eating walnuts. And... I was like, you know when there's nuts on cake, it's not hidden. That German chocolate's going to get you every time. Yeah, no, anyway, go on. Did you notice when they were driving to the party that the telephone pole that they drive by, that the camera lingers on, had the necklace symbol on it?
Starting point is 00:14:18 No, I saw the symbol. Yeah. She goes in an inflectic shock and he, rather than calling him ambulance, puts her in the car and drives home, nobody's driving to the hospital. Oh, he's driving to the hospital. Yeah, he says we're almost to the hospital. Which I feel like is a thing you might do. Okay. So take time for an ambulance to get a toa. It's. that. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. the. the. the. the ambulance. the. the. the. the. the. hea. hea. hea. hea. thr. the. hea. hea. hea. hea, hea, hea, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, the ambulance, the ambulance, the ambulance, the ambulance, the ambulance, the ambulance, the ambulance, the ambulance. the ambulance. tha, the ambulance. the ambulance. tha, tha, the, the, the, the, the, the. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. toea, rather, toea, toe. toe. toea, tha. thau. thau. thr. thr. the window trying to get air? Yeah. And hits a telephone ball. Because he swerves to not hit a dead animal on the road. Right. He doesn't even do anything wrong. I mean, like, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:14:53 Like, it's what you would do? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. And she gets, uh, she gets fucking decapitated. The head, what did you think of the shot of the head with all the bugs on it? You like that?
Starting point is 00:15:10 I did. Yeah, me too. I was like, oh, fuck. Oh, fuck. That, I, I mean, I don't understand his reaction of, thi. I don't understand his reaction of like, he just goes home and he, to to to to to to to the to the to to the to the to the to, the to, the the to, the to, the the the their, their, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the, the the, th....... th. th. th. the, thi, thi, thi, the. the. the. the. the. the. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the I think he's just in shock. Yeah. But you, so he's laying in bed and you hear Annie go, all right, I gotta run to the store and get some balsa wood. Yeah. And she goes out and you hear her get in the car.
Starting point is 00:15:34 And then just scream. And her screams are heartbreaking. Yeah, and horrifying. Yeah. . .. I I I I I I I I I th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the thea.a. thea. thea. toooooooooooooo go to to get those noises to come out of her, I'm sorry. I'm sorry you had to do that toward to Colette. Same with that scene if we're saying like it hurt so much I just need to die.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Like I can't even I and the thing is I can't imagine, I can't imagine, like, and the thing is I can't imagine, I think it would just be so much much that that so much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much much to be so much to be so much more more more more more more more more to be so much to to to to to to to to to be so much to be so much to to to to to to to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to be to be to be so to be so much to be so much to be so much to be so much to be so much to be so much to to to to to to to to that that that to that that that that. that. that. to to that to to to to to to to to to to to to to that. And I can't even imagine like the pain of what these characters are going, like I think it would just be so much more intensified. But yeah, like, ugh. And who doesn't care, Gabriel Byrne? He like barely reacts. It feels like he just shut down. Yeah, I guess.
Starting point is 00:16:19 Right, which is like not even that angry. No. No. Did you notice when she was she the to to to to to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just to just the to just just to just to just the to just to just to just to just, to just, the th. th. thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiiiiiiiiiiii. thiii. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that angry. No. No. Did you notice when she was, well, I mean, you probably noticed, but was she's talking to Charlie in bed earlier in the movie, and the word Satoni is written on the wall? Yeah, what was that weird language they were saying? They all sounded like, um, types of running shoes. It was all like the Nike, Setone-1-6s. the Nike, the Nike-Sitone-S th-S th-S th-S th-S th-S th-S th-S th-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-Sitone-S-S-Sitone-Sitone-Sitone-Sitone-Sitone-Sitone-Sitone-Sitone-S-Satoni-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-Si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S si-S thianianianianian thian thian thian thian thian thian thian thian thian thian thi-Si-Si-Si-Si-Ci-Ci-Ci-Chi-Chi-Chi-Chi-Cohi-Cohi-Cohi-Cohi-Cohi-Cohi-Cohi-si-si-s. th-s. th-s. th-s. th last ones. You know what I mean? Then the 915s. Some of the like, apparently I was doing some research about it and some of the like like Satoni isn't a real like a cult word. But some of the other ones that show up later are. When all the old people are yelling them or yeah. What do they mean? They're just like stuff like Zazz is like some Alistor Crowley thing. And like. So. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. And like. And like. th. th. th. And like. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, so, so, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. So, they. They're just like stuff, like Zazaz is like some Alistair Crowley thing and like...
Starting point is 00:17:06 Pardon me? Sorry, sorry to the Alastair Crowley fans out there, I just offended. Are you a weirdo who likes to do drug and fuck a lot? Please, enjoy my cult. Yeah. But it's like, so he was incorporating stuff and like he was incorporating stuff and I think that's like, that's fun, it's interesting. No, I like it. I think it's incredibly well written. Yeah. Yeah, that's what you like, I feel like, if you did this movie, you just feel like, uh, to kill a mockingbird, I'm out. Yeah, right. Right. And then right before you die, release, um, and then then die and then, and th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th i i i i th i th i th i th i th i thi it's th i thi it's th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i th i i th i i i i i i i it it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's incredibly it's th i th i th i th i thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's incredibly it's incredibly it's incredibly it's incredibly it's like find out how it went. Just another thing to like fucks up the first thing that you did real well. I feel like Jordan Peel is going through this right now, like get out was just like everyone lost their mind over and like us people like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:56 Yeah, hype is a, hype is a dangerous vehicle. We know on this podcast as, you know, Remember, remember, remember, remember, th, th, th, th, th, and th, and th, and th, riding that high, we were doing cocaine, we were wearing big chains, we had all that money. We put a swimming pool in the attic. It was probably a mistake. It was a really bad idea because it's like, first of all, it's so bad for your water belt. It's bad for the foundation of your home. And like it's not, it never gets hot enough up here and it's swimming. Yeah, I just. How are we're going to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get th. out of here. We're treading water right now. I'm still doing blow. I bought so much of it when
Starting point is 00:18:25 it was low in the market. I could just get all the wind. The freezer full of blow. Would you freeze cocaine? I don't know. I don't think so. Honey, is there any coke in the freezer? Just, just popcicles? Cocaine popsicles? Would. Just stick it up your nose and wait. It's like the world's shittiest anima for your face. Do everybody knows? No, I'm good. I'm good. But so yes, so we've been there. So our advice to him is don't do an episode too. It's true. We shouldn't have come back after Warlock. Yeah, Warlock was all we needed. Without warning was too much of an ask. I mean it was, we should have known better.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Well, here we are now. Can't look back, can only look forward. 224 episodes into this thing. Yeah. Plus those best of episodes you did. Those are probably a lot of work. And the baby announcements? Oh, did you do a baby announcement? Yeah, I don't remember that now, yeah. Oh, hey, guys had a baby. That's why I didn't want to do this movie, assholes. Oh, also, speaking of which, I was like, should I get Katie to get Celeston here?
Starting point is 00:19:33 Now, I'll just yell at her. No. Yeah going to talk to her. In what world? I'm going to talk to her. I'm going to need... I'll do, I'll record an interview. I'm going to need a four-page essay about one. Okay, I'll talk to her. So Annie goes in the group. She was not. She was not. I've thought about that later. I think she was lurking in the parking lot because they knew she was going there. Yeah. I just wondered if she I just wondered if she because when you meet her you're like oh Joan oh you're so sweet. Except. She's the bad guy from Hansay too? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I was like I was like, God. I know her. I was like. the. and I was like, oh, that's her. She's aunt, uh, Lydia? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:27 Yeah. Yeah. Who is? I never, I didn't even finish that show, did you? I did the first season. Okay. And I was like, I can't. When it got to, I was the scene where she was gonna give, I was like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, yeah, th, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th, th, yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th, th, th. Yeah, th, th, th, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, I, th. Yeah, I, I, I, I, I, th. Yeah, I, I, I, th. Yeah, I, I, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, I, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeahthe second season. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess. Yeah. I gotta go. It's too, yeah, like, yeah, I just, I can't right now.
Starting point is 00:20:51 Everything hurts all the time. And like watching other people's pain is getting, I don't want to say tiresome because that sounds very, uh, callous. It's burdensome. And especially when it's fictionaliiiiiiiiiiiiiii fictional, the fi it's fictional, the fictional it's fictional it's fi it's fi it's fi it's fi, thi, thi, thi, thir thi, thir thir thir thir thir thir thir, thir, I to thir thir, I go to go to go to go to go. I go. I go. I go. I go. I go. I go. I go, I go. I go, I go. I to go. I to go. I to go, I to go. I to go. I to go, I to go, I to go, I to go, I to to to to go, I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to go. I go. It's burdensome. It's burdensome. And especially when it's fictional pain. I mean, although maybe that's better. I don't know. Is it better to watch fictional pain or real pain?
Starting point is 00:21:14 Can we just stop? I'm not doing very well. What's the best kind of pain to watch, guys? Call us, let us know. What's your favorite kind of pain to watch? Katie. Alan. Can we stop down for a second? Yeah, who do we need a break? So I put out a little thing on our social needs to request listener questions, and we got the most amazing response to people.
Starting point is 00:21:43 Oh, wonderful. So many folks got in touch. Blue my mind. And I am going to read you one of the listener questions right now to break up the tension of this episode. Great. Katie, can I ask you a listener question? Please.

You guys go check that out. You should. He puts forth an idea. Cone zone, take them for ice cream. Bone zone, beep them in bed.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Stone zone, get high with them. And these are the three characters you have to choose from to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put their their their their their to put to put to put their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their their. their. their. their their. their. their. their. the. the. theat. theat. theat. thea. thea. thea. thea. theooooooooooooooooooooo. You. You Frankenstein's monster and the werewolf. Okay, all right. Yeah. I think there's a clear right answer. Oh, for sure. Right. You're going to fuck Frankenstein's monster. Wrong, wrong, wrong answer.
Starting point is 00:22:35 He's got to be your ice cream. He just needs it. He needs it. He deserves it. I mean, I know he threw that kid in the water, but he still deserves it. You know, he was confused. You get stoned with Dracula. I think so too.
Starting point is 00:22:51 I think he's got some funny, funny stories. Funny stories and you don't have to share your Doritos. He's not going to eat him. He can't. And having seen howling to your sister's a warewha, I, their their is a wia is a wia is a wia is a wi is a werewolf, I'm a fuck a werewolf, right? They just fuck all day, although, God, that's gonna be so exhausting. They just kind of get a little hairy when they're fucking two, they don't go full wolfing on it. Yeah, and it's gonna be Mickey from Pee's Big Adventure, right?
Starting point is 00:23:12 Yeah, yeah, or that's that lady that brown sugar's written about. Yeah, either or, yeah. Oh, 100% yeah, I mean it's the correct answer. Dracula's gonna have some good stories. Yeah. And this one time, this one time, it's gonna be so good. You think Dracula Bogart's the bowl, he's like telling a story and holding the bull, and you're like, but can I just, but can't... But you could fuck with him and put a holy water? Oh, that's awful. Oh, who did? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's. Oh, that's. Oh, that's. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, that's. Oh, that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. th. th. tha. th. th. th. th. Do you think Dracula has good weed? I think not. I think Dracula has dirtweed, because he doesn't know any better, because he's so old.
Starting point is 00:23:47 Because old people always smoke dirtweed and have no idea. He just busts out of Peter Frampton record and rolls a joint in it. Oh my god, no one wants to feel like I do or whatever. I know that Peter Frampton is totally harmless. I fucking hate Peter Frampton. That's all. That was a fun question. Thanks. I feel better. Joan approaches Annie and is like, oh, my son and grandson both drowned.
Starting point is 00:24:19 So I know your pain. Annie never asks how they drowned. And that, like, watching it a second time, it's like, oh, she's making this up how they drowned. And that like watching it a second time it's like oh she's making this up on the fly. Yeah but in the moment it feels tender. It does. Yeah it does. She's a really good, uh, she's a really good actress. We forgot to mention that before Charlie passes away she does this weird thing where she goes. Yeah it seemed like Charlie had some challenges that required more care than other children because she this weird thing where she goes, yeah it seemed like Charlie had some challenges
Starting point is 00:24:45 that required more care than other children because she says something like who's going to take care of me now after her grandmother died. Yeah and her mom's like well me and then if I die then Peter will or whatever. Yeah your father will yeah if not Peter will be yeah so but so I think what are the questions of this movie is like like how much of what Charlie Charlie experiences is because of whatever challenges she has? Or is it because of what grandma is doing? Do you know what I mean? I did question whether or not Charlie is trying to put herself into the predicament where she dies.
Starting point is 00:25:24 So that she can, that's why she keeps like going for food that has nuts in it. Because she's like wolfing down that cake. See I thought that was just her being awkward. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, that's the thing is like, you don't know. Did grandma let her know that like, oh, if you die, you're going to come back as your brother and you'll be a pain on or whatever the eighth king of hell. I don't know. What if your grandma said that to you? I'd be like no no come on. My mom you're lying to me right now but I guess you know she had a reason to believe it. But she was making all of those little like toys and or idols
Starting point is 00:26:01 that were different heads on things bodies so when she got the pigeon head she immediately put it on somebody's to to you. to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you to you th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I th. I'm thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi their thi their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi thi thi different heads on things bodies. So when she got the pigeon head she immediately put it on somebody's body. So I was like hmm maybe she knows what's up. A lot of decapitation's in this movie. Yeah. You think she foresaw her own decapitation? Yeah. Brutal. Yeah. I mean, yeah. I think there was more of a setup that I thought there was the first time I watched it. Yeah. I'm still a little confused by the whole, how it ends, like what the whole plan was. You know what I mean? Sure, sure.
Starting point is 00:26:34 So maybe you haven't watched it twice, you can walk me through that. Maybe. Maybe. So Joan he heps to her in a park, into the parking lot. That's when I was like, oh she's fucking in on it, whatever it is, because she does not shop at this art supply store. You know?
Starting point is 00:26:51 And she's like, I've, uh, this guy, like, this guy, like, got in tou. And thou, this guy's the to' the their mail slot before. And also their mail is just sticking half in and half out of the slot. And I was like, sir, it's not how mail, that's not how mail work. Push it, your mailman is so fucking lazy. Push it all the way through. I can't, oh, fuck it. Oh, no. Maybe tomorrow. Uh, so they do a sea seahma. there's like auto writing on a chalkboard that says I love you grandma. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:25 And Annie freaks the fuck out and runs away as you would do. As you would do. So then she ends up doing it at home. After she recites an incantation. Right. And she drags her husband and son into it. And this is where it really goes off the rails. Yes. But also like as the audience you're still just like oh this woman
Starting point is 00:27:45 is having a fucking psychotic break because she smashed all of her artwork. Yeah she's under a lot of pressure. Yeah. And and you start to see her being not a great person like that scene where she's I know it's in a dream but where she's telling Peter like I never wanted to be your mother like... It's so upsetting. So upsetting. Even in a dream, I don't th you know. Because, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the the the, the the the they, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she's the, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she she, she she she, she she, she she she, she's the the the the the the the, she's they. Yeah, they. Yeah, they. Yeah, they. Yeah, they. Yeah, they's they's s smashed, they's smashed, they's smashed, they's smashed, s smashed, they's smashed, s smashed, s smashed, s smashed, she's smashed the the the the they. She's s smashed, she's s but where she's telling Peter, like, I never wanted to be your mother. Like, don't fucking say that to your kid, even in a, I don't know, you know. If you do it in a dream, you wake up and apologize. You wake up and you say you're sorry. But in that scene where she's really yelling at him at the table, like that's real. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And the the the the the the thing thing the thing thing thing thing the thing thing the thing th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th th. th. th thing th thing th thing th thing thin thin thin, thin, thin, thin' thin' that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So, th. th. th. So, thin. So thin. th. thin, th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thea. thea. thea. I don't believe that for a second. I don't believe that she was sleepwalking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Yeah. No, I don't. Do you? No, I think she had a psychotic break at some point earlier on in her life. Interesting her psychiatrist's husband isn't doing a little bit more to manage this. When he was sending that email and he was like, United Psychiatrist.com or whatever. I was like, you motherfucker, you're so useless. It's crazy. Yeah. Yeah. It's, oh, let's talk about that. So they're having like their first sit-down family meal. Yeah. And this is after the first seance or before and
Starting point is 00:29:10 Peter swears at her because he's like just fucking say what you want to say to me because she's obviously holding back Because she blames him for her daughter being dead because how do you manage all of these emotions? I don't know. That's why I wouldn't And I love the the juxtapositions in the hypocrisy of like don't you fucking swear at me? Yeah, right. She keeps do it. She keeps do it? She keeps th. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to say. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. just. just. just. the just. Just. Yeah, right. She keeps doing it, like don't raise your voice to me while she's screaming at him. Yeah. And just like all these things of like the interplay of that was really well handled and really well done and really a big fucking bummer. Such a bummer. And that kid, I don't know if I've never seen him in anything else like he's such a good actor. He's like yeah just bringing tears to the eyes. He's in a movie that I really really liked. What is it? Oh the second Jubanji
Starting point is 00:29:55 movie with Dwayne the Rock Johnson? Why didn't we watch that instead? It's really fun. I bet? I never saw that first? It's really fun. I bet. Yeah. I never saw that first one because you know how I feel about Robin Williams. No, how do you feel about Rome? I find him exceptionally creepy and I don't like him. What? Yeah, I do not like Robin Williams.
Starting point is 00:30:13 I strongly disagree. I find him upsetting. Oh man. Yeah, that's true. I loved. so much. That's weird because I think was is he pervert was he pervert I think he's probably a pervert. To the best of my knowledge no he was I mean he was a big coke head. Yeah they're all perverts that's what you learn when you learn when you start doing that blow and you're upstairs swimming pool. No I just he makes me uncomfortable for a reason I can't describe yeah I have a friend who has the same feelings about Kurt Russell. I know I know that that that that that that that that th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I have th. That's how I feel about you saying this is about Robo Williams.
Starting point is 00:30:45 That's fair. You know what, my mother-in-law can't stand Mr. Rogers? She finds him creepy. I've heard that from other people. Yeah. That I don't get out. I think some people can't handle, not saying this is your mother-in-law. But I feel like some people can't people thought he was a pedophile. It's like, but he really was really the best of us.
Starting point is 00:31:07 But Robin Williams was. No, Michael Jackson, yes. Oh, him, yes. Yes, I somehow conflated the two. Were they friends? I bet they were friends. In the 80s, for sure. For sure.
Starting point is 00:31:17 For sure. For sure. . There you go. They were probably both in the world together. Yeah. That was Dan Accurate. Probably not a pedophile. Dan Accurate? No, it just thinks aliens are real. You know what? I do too, though.
Starting point is 00:31:32 Look, do you really think we're the only ones out there? We've had this talk before. No, I just think we need to close the borders. I know I can't do it I'm sorry. So the family's falling apart. Yeah it's so fucking hard to watch and it goes on for so long. They have the seance that goes off the rails like the because it like the candles flame up and all the shit starts happening. Yeah It seems like Charlie is angry. Yeah it sort of the sense that you walk away from it with. And Charlie starts drawing from beyond in this notepad because she was a little artist and she keeps drawing her brother
Starting point is 00:32:14 over and over again with X's on his eyes. Can I just be real? I thought it was a little gosh that the only way you recognize it as her brother was the mole. I was like, come on. I didn't like that. It's a little kid and or demon drunk. Sure. Okay. Did you like the scene where Annie tries to burn the notebook and she catches on fire? Here's the thing. I feel like if I, I feel like maybe growing up in the 80s, this is why this happened to me. But I feel like if I ever catch fire fire to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to the to to to the to the to the the the the the the the the the they. I hope I never have to and I hope that I'm never proven wrong,
Starting point is 00:32:55 but I think I will stop drop and roll. And I'm gonna teach that to my kid, because I don't know if they're they they they a nuclear bomb blows on this one. Oh wait, the first one works, the second one doesn't. Well, closets too, if there's like a classroom supply closet, you can just right in there. Yeah, you'll be fun. Oh, no, no, no, that's school shootings. Shit. This movie is really, really bringing up the... Everything is awful. And I wish I was dead. No. No. No, just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just th. thi. thi. thi. thi. to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. No. thi. It's time, I think. Katie. Alan. This is from our friend John Thomas.
Starting point is 00:33:33 Katie, what is your favorite movie candy? Oh, okay. That's all you're going to eat in a movie theater, right? I disagree, but all right? What do you got? What do you got? Interesting. All day long. All day long. They're the best. Yeah. I am giving myself a day off next week and planning to go to a matinee. I was like, I'm gonna eat a whole fucking box of raisinets. I don't care. How many servings of a the toy. I'm gonna eat. I'm gonna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna. I'm gonna. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the toy. toy. toy. toy. toy. toy. the toy. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theater in your hand, fuck I would eat that shit. It's interesting because they make a lot of noise coming out of the box, too.
Starting point is 00:34:05 Real rattley. Oh God, when I went and saw us, there was a dude sitting next to me that just was like, I think he just had like, I don't know, a loaf of bread that was wrapped in aluminum foil. And he was like,. And he. And he. And he. And he. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. And he. the, and he's, and he's, I. the the, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I was, I was, I, I was, I was, I was, when. Oh, oh, th. Oh, I th. Oh, I was. Oh, One of my cousins, who I will not name on this show, because I feel like I put them on blast a lot. Yeah. But it's the one who's the worst.
Starting point is 00:34:27 So you know, those of you who know me know who it is, eats fucking hoagies in movie theaters. And I just think it's so messed up. For our non-Pitsgis, a grinder sandwich. Yeah, it's so rude. It's just gonna spell like, who's, is somebody's armpits? Yeah, I know. They think it's okay. Oh, at this point, in the first scene, when they come home, we meet Rex, or Rexie, their dog? I never saw that dog before the scene late at night, and I didn't know where that dog came
Starting point is 00:35:09 from and I was like, oh, that's a ghost dog. I was really thrown by the dog. I was genuinely upset about it. When they first come home from the funeral, he greets them and Gabriel Burns, like, it is a rare showing, of of of of that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's, and I, and I's, and I's, and I's, and I's, and I's, and I's, and I'm, and I's, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I's, and I's, and I's, and I's, and I, and I, and I, and I, and, and I. th. th. th. th. And, and, and, and, and, and. And, and. And, and. And, and. And, and. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th a good dog. I have no memory of that. And then you don't see him for an hour. Yeah, why didn't they just have the dog running around sometimes? I don't know. I, because when that dog shows back up, or to me, that was the first time I'd seen it. And I really watched this movie.
Starting point is 00:35:34 I did. Long after Grandma's dead, Charlie goes out for a walk outside and Grandma is sitting in her ring of fire. Oh yes. Right. The first night after the funeral, when Annie is done working, she goes back into her workshop and turns out the lights and her mother is standing in the corner. Yeah, ghost mom in it. I have fucking chills right now because it's it's so well-held because it's that thing
Starting point is 00:36:03 like, and they use this again later in the the the the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the film the the, there they are. Because it's so well-headed, because it's that thing of like, and they use this again later in the film a couple times, where it's a shape and your brain starts splitting together what it is, but it's definitely that person. Yeah. And they use that back of a chair, right, and shaped like her. When you think something like a, that shape's head is coming off, it's like just like a nerf ball, it falls to the floor, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:29 What was holding it? What was holding it in the corner? I don't remember? Nothing. Oh, I was like, Alan, I didn't see. really, that kind of thing starts happening really non-subly. When the woman is like screaming across the street at Peter from the lunch table. Yeah, and nobody else can hear him. Oh my god, poor Peter. Why is Peter going to school?
Starting point is 00:36:55 I don't know. I'm so sad for him. I don't know. His panic attacks that he has, like, fucking hit home. Yeah. Where you're just like, I can't, I I can't. And he's obviously like having like a sympathetic reaction that Charlie would have had. Right. But it's like, fuck I've been there. Where you're just like, oh your chest is just like tightening. You're like, I'm definitely
Starting point is 00:37:13 having a heart attack or and like they just handled that so well. Yeah. Oh man, this is not a a movie for the anxiety ridden. Oh no, no. Oh, no, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, I should mention that I took a Klonepin before I watched it. I'm glad. Yeah, me too. It would have been a rough one. I definitely had a beer while I was watching. I was like, just let's just mellow this out. Yeah. So all that creepy stuff. So eventually Annie finds her mother's headless body in the attic because fucking useless Peter Gabriel. Peter Gabriel Burn, has been getting phone calls from the cemetery that's like, oh yeah your mom's gone. Yeah, she got snatched. And also we forgot to mention this but right after the funeral that same night when Annie sees her mom's ghost in the workshop she opens a book and finds a note from her mother that says something like...
Starting point is 00:38:03 Oh would you like me to read you the content? I took the time to write it down. Thank you. My darling dear beautiful Annie, first of all, that sounds completely disingenuous. Forgive me all the things I could not tell you. Please don't hate me and try not to despair your losses. You will see in the end that that that that that that that that that that that that that that they are that they are they are they are they are that they are they are they are they are they are that they are that they are they are they are that that that that that that that that they are that they are worth they are they are that that that that that that that that they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are they are worth it. Our sacrifice will pale next to the rewards. Love, mommy.
Starting point is 00:38:25 Ugh. Ugh. That's like an alien that's like, what does love sound like? Yeah, right. Oh, ugh. Oh, ugh. So, so things just go, I don't know, further and further off the rails. Peter's getting worse at school. Uh, I forgot to mention the light. Oh, right, there's like, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. th. th. worse at school. I forgot to mention the light.
Starting point is 00:38:46 Oh right, there's almost like a reflection and electronics would create and your cat would chase. The suncatcher, if you will? Yeah. Suncatcher? Do you recall that? No, I don't, but I like it. That's just like, it'll like move through a space
Starting point is 00:38:59 and then zero in on a spot. But why? What is it? It's like the demon ghost materials. I see. Ectoplasm. Where's Dan Achroid when he eat him? Or his father? Whose book I read Dan Acheroid's dad's book? Oh, Peter Acroid? Yeah. Yeah. I have. Did you do it while drinking Dan Acroids vodka? No, his vodka sucks. Oh, does it? I feel like all vodka kind of sucks. Yeah, I don't like hard liquor. So I'm not a good. Yeah, I'm a gin lady myself. Okay. She's like Christmas. Hate Christmas. Love gin. Oh, yes. But yes, they find the body in the attic. The headless body or she's, she's been decapitated right? Yeah. And she's all black and little. Here's the thing. Why don't nobody smell her. I don't know, because when they open the attic, it's full bugs. God, I love that house so much.
Starting point is 00:39:47 Yeah, it's filled with flies and Peter Gabriel. Peter Gabriel. Oh my God. Gabriel Burn goes upstairs. It goes up to the attic and it's just like, Ah! Ah! Ah!
Starting point is 00:39:59 If I see something scary, what I'm going to do is go, ah, ah, I just like comes down and yells it his wife for a little while. I mean, at that point, I could see it being reasonable to think she put her there. Yeah. Yeah, because she is off the rails. Yeah, did she? Maybe? Who knows? I don't know. I don't know what's happening to her. And then the light goes over her and then goes inside of her and it's such a fucking subtle and beautiful piece of acting by Tony Colette because she's bugging out. And then she just like, um, yeah. And she drops. Yeah. And then she's running around on the f-fucking.
Starting point is 00:40:39 That was bananas and I loved it. Because it's not, they're not zooming on this. Like you see it sort of in the background scenes. Like it's not this focal point, which I think is really good. It's oddly like not gratuitous. Yeah. It's just like, a little frisson. Yeah, like the little frisson. So, because when he goes downstairs and he's like staring at something, and you just see her like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the fire I think or he's just like in the in the dining or
Starting point is 00:41:05 the yeah like the living room and he's staring at something and you just see her like holding on to the ceiling behind him and that's when you see the naked creepy guy in the corner he's looking at his dad's body on the ground oh that's where he's caught fire because he threw the diary or the. The sketch pad or whatever into the fire and he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he's he's the the he's the the th is th is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the is the. the. the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the th is th is th is th is th. But she seems shocked by it. Yeah. Which is weird because she's already gotten or is that before she gets lighted. Oh, that's when the light hits her. Because she's like freaking out and then she goes home.
Starting point is 00:41:32 That's right, okay, okay. Yeah. And then. Do you like how they had his whole body being burned, but you could still see his shiny wedding? remind me. It's Peter Gabriel Burn. Peter Gabriel Burn. Unit. Zappa. That's moon unit. Yeah, right. I do like that game.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Unit is a hard one to. It's true. Oh, well. What if the podcast just stopped because we said, hmm. And then she is floating up above him with like grotting herself? What in the attic? Because so that's right. He runs up to the attic, which like, no, Peter, why would you do that? Oh, and
Starting point is 00:42:16 there's the picture of him on the floor with his eyes boke down in the middle of like a ritual setu. Yeah, which I'm gonna call that of his dusty, fuzty former grandma grandma grandma grandma grandma grandma. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's, that's, that's, that's that's thi. to that's just just just, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to that's, that's that's that's that's th. th. that's th. th. th. th. that's just just just just just just just just just just just, th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. that's just just just, th. thi. that's just just, ththat. Of his dusty former grandma. Yeah. Oy. Yeah, she's she's like sawing her neck while floating and looking real vacant. Yeah. Yeah. And blood's just shooting out of her neck, shooting out of her neck, shooting out of her neck. And he jumps out a window. Yeah. And then the light gets him. So like, but it seemed like the light had been chasing him all along. So why did it take this moment to take him? I don't know. It's like, there's that scene in the classroom where it kind of gets him and he like raises his hand and a fucked up when and he bangs his face off the desk. Yeah, that sucked. And then kind of comes back to. Yeah, that was. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. that. th. th. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the he's laying on the ground and he looks up and he sees his mother's beheaded body floating. Floating into the tree house.
Starting point is 00:43:09 Yeah. And he's like, well, gotta go up there I guess. Well, he's not he anymore. Right. Yeah. He walks up into the tree house and finds a bunch of decapitated bodies. Right. Well, I And it's his mother and father. It's his mother and grandmother.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Oh I thought his dad was the to do. And they're like they're postrate or prostrate in front of the giant mannequin body that's got his sister's head with a crown on it. I did not love that. I did not to be honest with you. But I liked it because there was an internal light inside of the head. Yeah. And I was like, oh that, that's a. the one. the one. the one. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the. the th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. t. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. th. the of the head. Yeah. And I was like, oh, that's weird. Kind of like in that one of the really sweet scenes in that Terrifier movie, where they made a jackalant after that guy's head. Yes, yes, yes. And there's all these naked, creepy olds laying on the floor,
Starting point is 00:43:57 also like prostrate, prostate in front of this thing. Yeah. And we had No, prostrate? Yeah, prostate is a different thing. Kneeling in front of this thing. Yeah. And we had seen them like in the woods near the house too, just like stand out there waving all naked and covered in flower, but they seem real excited to see him. Yeah. So, Joan is there, and she starts talking, and this is where I don't really understand what happened. Because she calls him Charlie. Yes. Okay. And th. And th. And th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th and th, th, th. th. th. thi the thi the the they they they they their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. Starting point is 00:44:26 Okay, and then she tells him that he's Pymon. Yes. The Pymon who covets the male form and needed the male form to come back into existence. Then why did Grandma put him in Charlie in the first place? Was Charlie always a demon from Bert, like, from her babyhood? I think, like, cultivated into that, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and the, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, they, they, and they, they, they, they, and they, they, they, they, they, they they they they they, they, and they they they they they they they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they they like cultivated into that and then they needed to put Pymon into Peter. What I'm saying is Charlie was 13. Yeah. I feel like in 13 years you'd figure out if your kid was a demon. She seemed okay. Yeah maybe demons are all right. These people seem super stoked on them. Yeah I guess so. I mean it's just hard to be the eighth king of hell and a 13 year old girl. th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the th. the th. the the th. the the th. the the. the. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. the th. the th. the th. the th. th. the th. the th. the the the the thi. the the the the the the the the the thi. the th. the th. These people seem super stoked on them. Yeah, I guess so. I mean, it's just hard to be the eighth king of hell and a 13-year-old girl is how I feel.
Starting point is 00:45:09 It's true. There's gonna be a lot of like, uh, I really want the keys to the car. No. Right, right. It takes them right out of my goddamn hand-eye to give her her own keys, which is just keys from other people's houses that I don't know who they are anymore and I just put them all in a ring. And I was like, these are your keys. You can go open. You're making a cat burn.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Yeah. I feel like the whole thing was very family focused and dramatic in that sense and then to find out it was all about an eighth king of hill. Yeah. Pymon felt a little like it felt a little kill listy for me there at the end. It's a little kill listy vibe to it and then. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. the..................................................................................................... the. the... the. the. the. the..... the........... the... the. the... the. the. the end. Interesting, uh, Missy said the same thing that had like a kill listy vibe to it. And we're just ending, and you're like, what? Yeah. And I didn't like that because it felt so practical before. It almost to me felt like, um, the descent. Yes. When the monsters show up and you're like, oh, thank Christ. Oh, I was just gonna say, oh, this movie's ruined, but like, yeah. Yeah. There's like, real horror is like, the real life, not a cult, whatever's. For sure.
Starting point is 00:46:32 I mean, I think, yeah, the real horror is like the psychoses that gets passed down through your family. And again, like, the traumas you can't get over and that, like, hover over your family for the year forever. Yeah. The real horror was within us all along. It was the friends we made along the way. Katie. Alan. You want to go to the ratings face. Yeah. The thing is I have literally no idea how to do it.
Starting point is 00:47:00 Okay, well we usually pick like one to ten and like it doesn't make any sense when we do it. Oh good, good. Good this isn't going to make it. So this is a beautifully shot, beautifully written, well acted, like well-conceived film that I hated watching it. And that is kind of the point, right? You supposed to hate watching it? I think the, it almost like as a piece of art achieved what it set out to do. Absolutely. But I don't want to watch it again. You don't want it. I don't want it. And if someone suggested to be watch it again, I'd say suddenly I feel like I might have diarrhea and I have to go home is what I would say. We're gonna need you to do a second episode on this movie. Yeah. No. No no no. No. No. No. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. the the the the th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I don't th. I don't the. I don't the. I don't the. I don't the. I don't tho the. I don't the. I don't th. I don't a second episode of this movie. Yeah. No. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:47:47 So I don't really want to give it. I'm going to give it, it's the eighth king of hell. Okay. Yeah, okay. Because I can't, I have no idea where to put it. I just don't know where to this movie a low rating because it's a, it's a really, really, really, really great movie. But I hated it.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Yeah. Yeah. It reminds me of this movie called Affliction that is about a father and two sons dealing with his alcoholism and yeah, just everything goes to hell. Yeah. And like, I saw the movie and I was like, oh, I wish, th, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, th, th, th, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I, I, I, I, yeah, everything goes to hell. And I saw the movie and I was like, oh, I wish I'd never seen that. I wish that I could scrub that from my brain. I can't.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Think about the movie all the time. And this movie, like, if you're setting out, and he's obviously someone who likes fucking with your ideas of what you should be going to see in a movie and stuff. Yeah, definitely. But not in an offensive subversive way like Lars Von Trier I feel. No, I feel like this is like... It's classy. This movie's classy. It's almost like... Yeah, I would put it up there with like Lars Von Trea's like Dancer in the Dark. And I just got Bruce Springsteen dancing in the dark. And I would the dark. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I th th th th th th th th the th the th the th. the the th. the th. th. th th th the th th. th. the th. the th. the offensive the offensive the offensive sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub sub, the the the the the the the the the the the th. And I th. th. th. th. thr-a. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th th's a, is it theanter in the dark? Yeah, I think it is. Okay, but the spring scene is dancing in the dark. Yeah. Dance for the dark is the Bjork movie where, yeah, it's really, it's a fucking huge bummer I don't advise ever
Starting point is 00:49:11 ever watching it again. But, um, but I'm, I think other people who have, can like feel like they can appreciate that should see this. Sure. But also know that is very traumatic and if you have any familiar trauma in your life, which you do, oh yeah. It's gonna trigger that stuff. And like, it makes you really look at the mental illness in your family too. Like there's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. th. th. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, th. And, illness in your family too. Like there's a reason I had a prescription for that clonipin, you know what I'm saying? I'm gonna give this movie a nine and a half. Fair. I think it's fucking fantastic. I just think it's like, it's a fucking bummer. Here's the thing though, like nobody's, I can't imagine anyone buying this DVD. You know what I mean? Maybe in a post-D-D-D-D-in post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post post thi thi thi thi, in a post thi, in a post-aivd world you don't have to. That's not how you make your money, but like, this is no re-watchable value for me.
Starting point is 00:50:06 I, not at all, like, next week's movie that we're gonna talk about, which like, mm-hmm, yeah. I guess, choice in Morsel. Is this gonna be like the, I spit on your grave for this generation, where like, like, like, the, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th................. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th let's just get into our psychological traumas. Yeah, I think it's like the next great unexplored horizon, I guess. Sure, yeah. I'm excited. He's doing a movie coming up called Midsummer. Midsummer Murders? No, I wish.
Starting point is 00:50:34 How do they think we were not, like, just switching a Barnaby and we were so going to keep watching. the cousin, other Barnaby? Get out of here with that. Guys watch me in summer marriages? I've been working my way through Shetland recently. Oh, I love Shetland. Between you and Jim Robinson hyphing me on it, I was like, Oh, it's so good. I gotta get- The third season is just like brutal and wonderful and beautiful. I, I, we both love like really sad and brutal things, but this movie is just like, but what if I did this?
Starting point is 00:51:07 But what if there was no redemption arc? But isn't there? Because it gets to be the demon. No one wants to be the demon, Alan. That guy wants to smoke weed under the bleachers and look at butts. Now he has to like rule over kingdoms of hell. Like an old people nobody that's a lot of responsibility making-an ass old people oh the midsummer movie is like a it looks like a sort of like wicker man type takes place is somewhere in Scandinavia and it

Katie is hilarious.
Starting point is 00:52:09 Yes. And Alan brings a lot of genre knowledge to the table. Also, you're doing your part. Also, Alan sounds exactly like Bald Brian from the Adam Carolla show. Please prove you are not the same person. Hey, I don't know who or what that is. I didn't even Google it. I am not bald Brian.
Starting point is 00:52:31 You're not, you are, you are, her suit if nothing else. Brian with a Y too. Never trust a Brian with a Y. Okay, and the second one is from James Franco. What? Yeah, it's right here. James Franco. What? Yeah, it says right here James Franco What? I like that there's a, I only ever see the podcast app that I use, uses iTunes reviews. So like, the fact that you have totally new reviews. What if there's like a bunch of apps that have that have all that have all that have all that have all that have all that have all th're like Katie fucking blows Alan is bald Brian from the Adam Carolla show. I don't know who that is and I'm never gonna find out. No I don't want anything to do with Adam Carolla. I don't know anything about
Starting point is 00:53:32 Adam Carolla. What was he? What was he? What was he? He was a co-host of something right? Uh, the MTV show where people would call in. Oh, Dr. Drew, he was a doctor. He was a doctor. th. He was a, th. He was a, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I was sidekicks. Dr. Drew wasn't really a doctor, was he? I think he is, but he's not a good person. Oh, he's not? He doesn't seem to be, like, I don't think a doctor should be doing a show where they get celebrities into a house and then try to put them through rehab and make people watch it. Oh my God, that was him. Samaritan oath you take or whatever to do no more. Hippocratic oath, yeah. Hi, not good Samaritan. Uh, well, thanks for the reviews.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Yeah, thanks, guys. That's really nice. Also, I don't do marvelling and marvels, marbles, marbles. So keep that shit on your own page. Marlain, marvelling and marbles.
