I'm really interested to hear it. That I'd like to start the podcast off. Because we've not talked about this at all. We have not. We didn't see the movie together, and we have not talked about it at all. Okay. So it's not about what the entire film. And he keeps going into this closet that has games in it that he, in order to make the door not shut, he uses an ambulance to keep it open.

My theory is, that's a subtle knot to where will fabulous. I think it is. Do you think Jordan Peel listens? Jordan, Mr. Peel? Love your work. Indeed. It makes me uncomfortable when people are being funny. Alan unplugged or something? I've been to see live comedy a few times and there's always that the same reaction that I have when I go see a play that I'm like, ugh, what's going on? Because they're behaving like that in front of you. Why are you right in front of me?

Yeah. Get a room that isn't this room. If there's a screen between of acting, you know, it's just... Yeah. I think I constantly live in fear that they're gonna run out of the audience and touch me. Or into the audience and touch me. I think it's like a haunted house where they're not allowed to toucest. And they're not allowed to tough. No way that's fucking cat's or their and they're like meow. Is that just about cats? Oh yeah, oh boy. Apparently it has no plot. Just cat. Like most like most days of cats. Anyway that isn't where I expected this conversation to go. Yeah definitely I mean I'm not saying that.

I think it is about class. There are so many theories as to what this movie's about, what the tethered represent. OK, and I haven't read much of anything, because I wanted to just, I wanted to play it straight. One of the 11 we get a year. As the fourth trailer began playing, two other people walked into the theater. I thought I was going to see it all by myself. So I have no notes because I didn't want it to obviously take out my phone or anything while there were other people in the theater and I was sitting dead center, dead seat center...... the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. But so I watched this movie alone, and I, I mean, mostly alone, there were people. And then I walked out of the theater into at 1 PM on a weekday into the bright sun, silent and frightened. Like, I had no one to talk to about. I just walked on out. It was very very th thi thi thi thi th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. I. I, th. I, th. I was very th. I was very th. I've seen it twice now. The first time was with a very vocal crowd. Oh okay. You got a weekend. And there was two people, two rows behind us

that hadn't seen each other in a while. Oh, I hate that go for a drink. Why pay $12 to do that? Honestly and not even be drunk. And then there was the guy who I don't know was check it out Twitter through the entire movie. Oh my god why are people monsters? But luckily I've become terrified enough that I no longer say anything to people because the amount of people that have been stabbed and like yeah they'll shoot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yay. The second time was much more chill. And yeah, there was only like two other people in the theater and it was nice. Yeah, it was a good time.

So, you like, did you like it? I will say that as we walked out of the theater and I was very excited, my partner, Missy just went, oh, you're such a stand for Jordan Peel. And I was like, no, I got 100% absolutely. Sure. I am on board with what this dude is doing. I agree. I did. And I, there's a lot of people who have a lot of issues with this movie

that I'm just like, I don't get it at all. Can you tell me? So I, the only people I different takes on it, but no one had big issues with it. So why can you tell me about like what people's issues are? Um, I talked to a few friends and, and talked to Missy about it as well, and she sort of had some issues with it because like, they couldn't get past certain mental hurdles, like, oh, where did the tether get all their clothes from? And I was like, word? That didn't even pop in my head. I was like, it didn't bother me.

Of course, they have clothes. Why wouldn't they have clothes? Anyway, I just kept going. Okay, I will tie that for you. The government provided them. their souls and there's governments making doppelgangers. I can believe that there's just a fucking like, what's the thing in Star Trek that makes food? A replicator. Yeah, there's just a replicator that just popping out red uniforms for everybody.

I'm like, I'm fine with that. That's fine with that. I've heard a lot of peopleto that, yeah. I think, well, go on. Those are the two really big things that, um, and like, what, the one gentleman that at the end of the movie the first time I saw it stood up and went, I'm tired of wasting my mother fucking money on these movies. Wow, I don't think I've heard anyone say it was a waste of that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thia.

it was a waste of money. So that's, and like, what did you think it was like, did you, what, at what point where you sold a bill of goods on this movie? Because the trailer was terrifying and then the film was terrifying and that I got what exactly what I expected? He was very vocal about how people should be fighting during the film. He didn't approve of the styles. Wait, what? Whatever. I don't need to hear to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th th. tho. tho. thoo. thoooooooooooo. th. th. th. the. the thoooooooo. their their their their the of the styles. Wait, what? Whatever. Whatever. Whatever. I don't need to hear from that man. I would have had him as a guest if I cared about his opinions. Okay, so I think that a lot of the disjointedness of this movie could have been somehow rectified

by removing the government as a player in it. If they were just somehow supernaturally tethered and we didn't really get an explanation anation the government as a player in it. If they were just somehow supernaturally tethered and we didn't really get an explanation for that, I feel like the film would have made a little more sense on that. Almost like kill list style, like this is happening, we're not going to give you any of the back. These people are down here, they've always been down here.

Ooh. So the fact that the government put this in and then just abandoned it and pretended like it never happened? Damn dog. Yeah, yeah, that makes sense. I mean obviously the government in my mind, I shouldn't say obviously because nothing is obvious right. But in my mind, this is a movie about class, right? So there's literally an oppressed underclass. They're literally an underclass. Yeah. So I think the inclusion of a government entity creating that is obviously, I'm going to really try hard not to say obviously in this focus.

just talking in a relatable fashion to the crowd of people that he's talking to where he feels comfortable. That's why a lot of people liked. And you know, Kubrick in, the shining, there's all that stuff. Well, I think that is something to do the the the the the tha thi. The thi. T thi. T thi. T thi. T thi. Thea. Thea. Thea. So, yeah, it was, it felt like just like the amount of belly button lint that have to be pulled out for the naval gazing that was going on in the documentary.

Yeah, fair. I've also heard this movie is about environmentalism. Because of the, what we're doing is coming back to haunt us, basically. That's why, like the whole hands across America thing was involved in it and Yeah, I didn't get that one. I didn't feel like that stuck too well. I didn't think that the like the movie being about like indigenous people worked too well either like I thought they were reaching a little bit in the article I read about that. Yeah. There's some interesting ideas about it but I don't think that's what the thrust of what he was doing with this movie is. No, that makes sense. Yeah. And the environment I feel like is just trying to fit your own agenda in some ways. Sure.

People to, I mean, you see what you want to see in things and that's art, right? So you look at something and you look at something and you look at something and I why it's open to a little bit more criticism for people, because if you're like, if you come out against Get Out, you're like, hmm, work. Right, right. And also just, you're right that the premise of Get Out, which might not be real, I'm saying real,

like a tangible place, but like you see that and you're like, I get it. I understand. I mean it was immediately meme-ified. Yeah, like, you know, no one needs to explain it to you. Right. So I feel like a lot of the criticism that maybe this movie is getting is because this movie. because this movie didn't do that. Maybe that was the expectation. Right. And like, you know, we talked about the hype machine. It's dangerous.

It's a monster. I can't believe we're even still doing this podcast. Go, go. Go listen to what that warning. You see what happened to us. I would like to see how bad. that was it. Yeah, that was good. You got so upset because you love that guy because he's Predator and he's dead, which you didn't like very much either.

Okay, so I was shocked to see Tim Hideker's name in the opening credits. I did not know he was in this movie and I was like, what could he possibly be doing in this movie? Tim Hidacker? Being Tim Hidacker, which is great. I thought he was great. I thought the acting was phenomenal. Yeah, the kids spent like. That little girl is so fucking fun f-fu-fu-fu- What is her name? Uh, are you talking about, uh, Shahadi Wright Joseph?

I am talking about Shahadi Wright Joseph. She played Zora? She was excellent. Yeah. And she, her doppelganger was terrifying. Terrifying. That smile was so scary. Yeah.

I mean, Lupita Niyungo is getting like a ton of Adelaids. I like that. Accolades. And she should because she's fucking amazing. She's also getting some pushback because of the voice. Apparently she based it on people who have a disability and so she's getting pushback I guess. Well how does anybody know that? Did she say that? She did an interview and then it was like, and I apologize for doing that. Like she came out and yeah, it was interesting because I saw a lot of people reacting.

It's great that she apologized. Still waiting for Dustin Hoffman to apologize for doing Rain Man, still waiting for like, you know, there's like all these things and like yeah because I didn't I didn't like once once that voice works into the context of the film by the end of the movie yeah you're like oh oh shit like that's why she talks like that I yeah yeah how long did it take you to figure out that the switch had happened oh you know me I'm a dummy it was right at the end really really hey here's this it was when she started going out of the steps the the the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. philosophical idea of like what is good and what is evil because she's not the bad guy for wanting a better life. And what she did to get there is problematic for sure. No, I think it makes you a bad guy to step on someone else to get yourself a better life, which is exactly what she does. She takes someone else's life to make it her own. So yeah, that makes you a bad guy. But I can't just steal your shit and be like, now I have this shit and then be a good guy.

But in the world of this movie, they shared a soul. So basically they just swapped who was underground. It's still the same essence as above ground on some level. And then seeing it the second time and realizing there's like not that much to it, like there isn't any gore, you don't see a lot of it. It's all the atmosphere.

Right, for sure. But in my mind, it was so much, you know. And so now every time I see it, like I love the movie, it on here because like how many right I'll never get that feeling back you know and my comedic answer which I would say is cabin in the woods because I was just so fucking delighted by it like the whiteboard with the all the monsters names on it and then like elevators just spewing monsters into a hallway like I loved so much and I thought it was so good and I like I would just like to feel like so delighted again.
