Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 231- Child's Play (1988)

Episode Date: June 3, 2019

With the upcoming release of the new "Child's Play" film (boo?) and the fact that we've already discussed the sequel, "Child's Play 2" (yay!!), we decided it was high time we talked about the original...-- 1988's "Child's Play." Special topics for your consideration include: Chris Sarandon's sweater game and his perpetual hunkiness, surprisingly bleak films featuring children, first time viewings of a genre classic, Andy Barclay's criminal cuteness and a listener question that downright stumps us. Want more "Child's Play"? Of course you do! Listen to Episode 28 for the sequel. Want more Chris Sarandon? OF COURSE YOU FUCKING DO. Catch him in Episode 22- "Fright Night" and Episode 146- "The Sentinel" (also recommended last week for the Jeff Goldblum connection!) Have you seen this one? Starting point is 00:00:00 Katie. Alan. I have to tell you something. Oh, okay. I've never seen Childs Play before. Whoa, really? I definitely thought I had watching this movie. I've never seen this movie.
Starting point is 00:00:11 I've never seen this show before. Really? Really? I'm very interested to hear your takes on it. I'm thii watching this movie was like, oh, I've never seen this year before. Really? I'm very interested to hear your takes on it. This is my first time seeing Child's play. So you saw the deuce before you saw the original? I did.
Starting point is 00:00:31 I went deep before I went shallow. I don't know. I don't know. That's a very gross and weird to say, yeah. Wow. Quick update, we are not emo-rich yet, so just letting us know. I just thought it was going to kick off after that and it has not kicked off, so. How do I get that promise ring money? I think it would be in promise ring or have been in promise ring a long time ago. Because I bet they don't still have money.
Starting point is 00:01:00 No, I think promise ring had some money. Yeah, I'd never seen Childs Play. Wow. How far into it did it, did it require you to get before you realize you'd never seen it? Oh, really? Because you're like, I've never seen Brad Durf with those luxurious hair. I've never seen this Brad Dora before. Yeah, yeah. I'm glad that he is the actor, you know what I mean? Not just the voice. I'm glad we get to see him do his thing. God, I love Brad Dore.
Starting point is 00:01:29 I know you do. I love him so much. Fogg tongue. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:37 Yeah. I have ridden the child's play bull many times. I was also excited, I'm sure I knew this, but forgot that it's Tom Holland, the director of Fright Night, who did this movie. Is that how Chris and Randon ended up here? I think so. Oh, he's so cute. Although, he's not as cute as he is, as the vampire in fright. His sweater is way off in this one. He is at one, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. tho. tho. tho. thi. thi. thi. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I's, is thi. I's, is thi. I's, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is a th. I. I is a th. I is a thi. I is a thi. I is a thi. I's, thi. I's, too. too. too. too. too. too. to to to to to tho. tho. tho. tho. I's, thi. I's, thi. He is at one point that wearing like a semi-boat neck sweater and I was like that must be his because that's like his look. I brought this in today. There's a lot of just like V neck sweaters. Yeah. I just have him
Starting point is 00:02:12 listed as sweater cop because he's always wearing a sweater. I think my problem with him is that his hair isn't big enough. Yeah. It's like going up but not out and I like his hair to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to his his to to his hair to to to the hair their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their their. their. their their th. th. th. th. the. thee. the. theee. theean. th. theeck. the. the. the. I th. I's th. I fuck was his character the princess bride Prince Humperdink yeah I need him to have Prince Humperdink hair so you need a very specific you don't you don't want the Sentinel the mustache Chris Sarandon oh my god I forgot about that enough another Jeff Goldblum movie too that was a good movie yeah yeah I like until the weird thing with people with actual disfigurement show up on the screen oh yeah oh yeah oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh the oh oh the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. yeah I th th th tho I tho I tho I tho I th. Yeah I th. Yeah I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I I I I th. I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th. I I I th. I th. I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I thi thi thi tho. Yeah, the tho. Yeah, the tho. Yeah, the tho. Yeah, the the tho. Yeah, I thin the the th. Yeah, yeah, I like that. And the weird thing with people with actual disfigurement show up on the screen. Oh yeah, oh my god, we've done so many movies. They like come up again and I'm like, what? What? What? Like last way, I definitely thought we had done invasion of the body snatchers. Yeah. We hadn't. We hadn't. What we did. And you've heard it, heard it twice. the. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. the. the. Like. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. to. to. to. to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the we did now? Hope we guys enjoyed it. Yeah. Or maybe we did, and you've heard that I heard it twice.
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's gonna happen at some point. We're both gonna forget that we've done a movie. Deja view it. But yeah, very specific Chris Randon needs in your life. Yeah, I think that's fair. Oh yeah, 100%. Now he's all salt and pepper and it's very nice. Usually but goateed as well like a little facial hair. That's all right. I think I could start fucking with a goate again? No. No, yeah, no. I think you have a very, I think your look that you have.
Starting point is 00:03:35 You're always wanting to change that beard. Yeah, it works so well for you. I'm constantly fucking around. Just don't fuck it tha tha. fuck around with it. Just let it be. Just handlebars maybe? Just because they... Anyway, so child's play... Look, I ain't married to you, but... This is a movie. We're podcast married. This is a movie. I don't know what that means. I think it means that if I die, you get part of my estate. Podcast estate. I get a chunk of the internet. Enjoy it though. It's fucking take it. You can have it. This is a movie about a serial killer who has friends.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Yeah, a serial killer, first of all, rarely has an accomplice. No way. I mean, if they do, it's generally like a married couple, like the whole Mokas that I mentioned last week. Or like Fred and Rose West. Mm-hmm. But you're not going to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to the the to the the the the the the the the th. This. This. This. This. This. This. This. This. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is thi. This is th. This is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This is th. This. This. This is th. This. This is th. This is th. This is th. It th. It th. It th. It is th. It is th. It is the the thi. It is the the the the thii is the the theeeiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii is thi. It is thi. It is thi mollcas that I mentioned last week, or like Fred and Rose West. Mm-hmm. But you're not going to see a lot of serial killers with just like having a friend driver getaway car.
Starting point is 00:04:33 No, just generally doesn't happen. Oh me, no, I'm just waiting for my buddy Ed, Ed game. You know him. He's coming over. He's got a person's head. This what cars make, that's a sound they make. So it's the Lake Shore Strangler, is that correct? Okay. I like that. Yeah, yeah, it's a good name for a serial killer.
Starting point is 00:04:52 It really is. But he's seemingly just running around getting into gun fights with cops. Again, not a big serial killer move. No, not not a th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi no, not a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a thi, not a thi, not a thi, no, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to thi. thi. thi. thi. to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. -oriented. So he runs into the toy store. It's ridiculous that Chris and Randon can't find him in there. And it's ridiculous that he knows that ancient language. And it's ridiculous how good his hair looks. It is so flowy. Yeah, it is really beautiful.
Starting point is 00:05:18 Just like streaming behind him. Listen, I know that I'm a serial killer, but I can still fucking use conditioner and I know how to do a blowout. Serial killers tend to be obsessive, so... It's true. It's true. Jeffrey Dahmer, known for his hair. Don't get me started on Domer. So, he fucking he knows voodoo. Yeah. Which, I love where the subtitles gave up, I'm just ancient language? Whoever was writing, it was like, oh, fuck it.
Starting point is 00:05:55 You've got to be kidding me. He does say Santoria at one point in his ancient language, so. Please don't do that to me. You know what's in my head right now. I don't practice Santeria? Mm-hmm. Do you have a crystal ball? You do. Um, so he- Did you have a million dollars? Like the promise ring? You spent it all. Just talk about the promise. It was predated them. So he voodoo's his way into a good guy doll. Yes. Which is my buddy, if you guys remember the my buddies.
Starting point is 00:06:32 And kid sister? Yeah, because girls had to have a different one. But the same theme song. Yeah, kid sister. Kid sister. Wherever I go, she goes. I wanted a kid sister so bad. Oh yeah?
Starting point is 00:06:45 Yeah. Just like how I really wanted a Teddy Ruxbin. And said I got a skippy scribbles. Did you get like a little sister's back? No. Just alone. Just no friends. Yeah, I was too old for all that stuff, like my pet monster and all those things.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Yeah, yeah. Just a little bit, a little bit past my time. But did you still feel like heartbroken when Andy really wanted one for his birthday? Oh, my God. Because mom does a fucking dick move. One pair of jeans and a giant refrigerator box? Why did you that? It wasn't even like a ploy.
Starting point is 00:07:23 It wasn't even like a decoy. . A dec dec deca the the the the the tha. It wasn't even like a ploy. It wasn't even like a decoy. No. And the actor who plays Andy is so stinking cute. Like he's just a little angel baby sweetheart. I find Andy to be very heartbreaking in this movie. Sure. Yeah, Andy's got a hard life. Did you notice the like, the framed portrait of his dad that's all over the house? No.
Starting point is 00:07:48 I swear to God it's a headshot of Paul Riser. I really think it is. That's funny. Yeah. Because mom does have like a Helen Hunty quality tour. She does. I like to think that this movie exists in the Candyman verse, because they're they they they they they they th they th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like thi, I like thi, I like thiman verse because they're both in Chicago and like it's kind of bleak in some weird ways yeah she's just living like a more she lives in a much more upscale place but how did she afford that nice-ass apartment on that like beauty counter I'm guessing that her it was purchased before her
Starting point is 00:08:20 husband died maybe they'd paid it off okay I don't know yeah but man that's seen of her like where her boss is being a dick and she has to work and I was like th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. I was like th. I was like th. I was like th. th. th. th. Yeah th. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. Yeah. I th. I th. Yeah. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. the thi. the thi. the the thi. the the thi. thi. thi. th. th.. I don't know. Yeah. But man, that scene of her like where her boss is being a dick and she has to work and I was like, man, working moms. It's so hard to be a working mom. For sure. And my boss isn't a dick because I'm a boss. Your boss is you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:36 But you need a Maggie Peterson to come and yell at you then. Yeah. Maggie Peterson's great. Everyone needs a best friend that's just like, hey, hey, hey, calm down. Hey, fuck off. Yeah, Maggie's great. So Andy's mom, Karen finds a peddler. I guess Maggie finds the peddler. Petler is a weird word. Is it?
Starting point is 00:09:01 I don't like it. A man who found a Chuckie doll or a good guy doll in the trash and sold it to her for $30. And she brings it home. And Andy's so stoked. And the first night that he has it. He hits Maggie with a toy hammer and pushes her out of a window. She'd die. What I love is that Charles Lee Ray. That's a great serial killer name. I just want to put that out there.
Starting point is 00:09:34 It's like, what is it, Charles Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald and James Earl Ray. Yes. I could not remember if he was the person who killed Martin Luther King Jr. or if he was like a folk act and I had to look it up because I'm really tired. I didn't want to say it and have you be like, who am I thinking of? Oh Carly Ray Jepson. Yeah that's the one. Folk act, Carly Ray Jepson. Yeah, that's the one I forgot Carly Ray Jepson So I love that his name is an amalgam of all those but what I really love is that he inhabits the Chuckie doll Yeah, he knows the Chuckie or the good guy dolls phrases. Yeah, so he has seen the commercials for the good guy doll. I'm like, well, I log that in case. I need to become one of the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. toy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the toy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the good guy doll and like well I log that in case I need to become one of them later. I just think that being the Lake Shore strangler you probably have a
Starting point is 00:10:26 lot of downtime to watch TV you know. But I just love that like conceit that he like knows all the phrases. They do say it only has three phrases so you know I'm I'm on board with this I'm in okay okay yeah, for sure. I'm here for it, as they say. So Maggie gets pushed out the window, hit in the head with a tiny little toy hammer. And you see it from like her point of view, so you just see the hammer come at you, which is I like that shot a lot. I also love that the stunt person's definitely diving out of that. Oh, yeah. The thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing things thing thing thing th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that's that's thi that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that. The thing that's never explained about Chuckie is how strong he is. Oh yeah. Because sometimes he has the strength of like an adult man to push her so forcefully out
Starting point is 00:11:13 a window, but then he can also just be kind of like pulled off and thrown when it's necessary. Sometimes he is just filled with stuffing. Yeah, right. I love the, a little person that's in a Chuckie costume running around. And then a lot of the shots of his hands grabbing stuff, rather than having that awkward, what is the, I gave birth to a giant baby that's trying to kill me, a movie that we did. Joan Collins, the devil within her?
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yes. I don't want to be born. Every time there was the shot of the baby, the baby, the baby, the baby, the baby, the baby, the baby, the the the the the the the the the the the the to be born. Every time there was the shot of the baby grabbing something that's like, oh that's an adult's hand, that's doing it. So there's not that they just have like the articulated like robotic hands grabbing something looks great. It does look great. It does look great. And his face moving, and his face moving, too. It's so creepy. And as that evolves as he becomes more human looking into like he's got like slick-backed like male pattern baldness. Have you seen anything for the new Chuckie? You showed me the picture. I so I didn't realize Aubrey Plaza. He is the mom. That's weird right. And Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker of the Star Wars fame? I don't know what that means. He's the voice. Is that game of throne? He's the the the the game. He's the game. He's the call. He's the call. He? He's the call. He's the call. He's the call? He? He's the call? He's the call? Hea. He's the call? He's the call of the Star Wars fame. I don't know what that means. He's the voice. Is that Game of Throne?
Starting point is 00:12:26 He's the Kellysie. Um, but it's CGI. And I'm like, but we already did this. Yeah. And it's real. And spoiler alert, it looks fucking amazing. It does look fucking amazing. When he's emoting, I'm like, God damn it, that's good. It's 1988.
Starting point is 00:12:45 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, they had that Teddy Rucksbin. I'm sorry, that Skippy scribbles tet. On that Skip Skips Scribbs. Poor Skippy scribbles, who he's got so fucked up and we'll just go, ay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, uh, and, and just, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I. I. I. I, I, I, I, I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm sorry. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I. it. My life is so depressing. I'm Andy just without the dead dad. Just a dead beat dad. Shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Yeah. We're gonna love these jeans that I bought you in. Take him up a couple inches. So. Oh, we forgot to talk about the opening scene where Andy is making breakfast for mom. Oh yeah. And he just pours, I don't know, a gallon of milk onto a tray of cereal. And then puts like three huge lumps of sugar in it.
Starting point is 00:13:39 He grabs the country crock and puts two cups of butter on burnt toast. He's so sweet. You know how I am these days. I'm so fucking soft. Literally just like a made of country crock. You could spread me on anything. It's terrible. You're just just oil. Just literally just oil and if you eat me I will leak out your butt. It's awful. It's awful. I also forgot my excited note when they're the toy store that just says Fireball Island. I got so stoked about Fireball Island. Oh yeah, I forgot about Fire.
Starting point is 00:14:14 Everyone did. Yeah, I think it was overshadowed by Crossfire. Sure. Yeah, that is a better commercial. You'll get caught up in the Cross Fire. God, do they still make jingles? Do they still give kids games that are just shooting the tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny balls the crossfire. God, do they even still make jingles? Do they still give kids games that are just shooting tiny balls of metal at each other? I hope so. Oh, do they still make hungry, hungry, hungry hippos? Yes. At least they make like a throwback version of it.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Yeah, the loudest game that's ever existed. It's like just so mom can not be able to sleep off her hang over. How gonna get four kids screaming at the same time, or one kid using like a bunch of hands to slap a bunch of different things? Slapping pieces of plastic that are in turn slapping other pieces of plastic. You're all hollow and like, it's like the most ill-tuned bongo session ever. It's just gonna like rile your kids up until they're slapping each other. Because that is the point of hungry, hungry hippos, is to get so riled up you start hitting your opponent. Just go from trying to catch Marvels into an MMA fight. Well, the world needs more of his child cage fighting.
Starting point is 00:15:15 Ooh, Billy's dropping elbows now. Oh, God. MMA is so terrible. Anyway. So... Chris ran and shows up at the apartment the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the the the the th. You th. You the th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You thi thi thi. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You thi thi. You thi. You thi thi thi th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You start th. You start th. You start th. You start thi. I. I. I t. I t. I start. I start. I tri..................................................terrible. Anyway. So, Chris ran and shows up at the apartment as the homicide detective. Right. Because they're immediately like, this is a homicide. Right. Because there was a tiny hammer involved. And then when Karen is like, we're very upset, get out.
Starting point is 00:15:40 He's like, all right, everybody, let's go. Like, you don't need to secure this crime scene. You don't need to to to that's it? You don't need to take photographs of the child shoes in flower on the counter? Nope. This is fine. Just let's just let these nice people alone. I loved Andy's realization that the flower was on Chuck Eau's feet. I just kind of like, well, I know, I know, I th, I'm I'm I'm I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, I'm th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thi, thi, thin, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. t tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo mothfucker. Oh my God. And then they ride the train together to the worst part of town the next day. I love, here's the thing I actually really like about this movie, and I think it shows great restraint is that we don't really see Chuckie explaining to Andy that he's alive. Right. It's all whispered to him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. I. I. I. I th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I feel like that could have really gone south and I think it's it's tasteful that we just learn that Andy knows. This movie is a surprising
Starting point is 00:16:29 amount of restraint. Which is crazy because it's bleak as fuck. It's bleak as so dark. I think it I almost think it had to be to work of a doll that is a homicic. Yeah and it was very controversial at the time. Oh sure. Yeah. Sure. Because those those like my buddy dolls were fucking huge. Yeah. And cabbage patch kids and yeah. Skibby's scribbles. Stop. I like the scene of him carrying the giant doll off the train. Yeah. Yeah. Because it's so big and he could like barely walk with it. He's so cute. I can't take it. I also love that his like, he's like, I don't know, like terracloft pajamas that are the my buddy outfit. I also love his football coat. It's a football with stars. I used to have shit like that when I was a little kid. Yeah, well too, just like a lot of cars on things. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So okay so he yeah he takes Chuckie on the the L to the worst part of town where Eddie Caputo lives and god damn it does he look like in Eddie Caputo.
Starting point is 00:17:40 Now he's running for school board this year in Pittsburgh. Eddie Caputo? No, no, no, no. Just seems like a name that you're on a sign that I'm saying right now. Yeah. Um, take that, Anna Batista. And they, uh, what happens to Eddie Caputo? So Chuckie, uh, sneaks into? How does he sneak away from Andy?
Starting point is 00:18:06 Andy, oh, Andy puts him on a chair and he has to pull out his little snow pants to pee. To make it tinkle. Tinkle. And he gets up and leaves. Yeah. And he walks into this house. And he turns on the gas.
Starting point is 00:18:22 And he just burns all, blows out the pilot light. And, uh, oh, he, he, how does he convince Eddie to shoot the oven? He's just running around getting him to shoot until there's finally enough gas for it to explode. Yeah. Eddie blows up. Somehow Andy doesn't. No, Andy doesn't and the doll gets out. Yeah. This is so good. And there's, there's a lot of scenes like, like Chuckie running in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in the the the the the the the the the the the't and the doll gets out. Yeah. This is so good. And there's a lot of scenes like Chuckie running in the background. Yeah, yeah, he just, you see him in a like in shadow a lot. And you just see like these little tiny feet moving, which is, I think, very good. I mean, Tom Holland is a fucking good.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah. This movie on Fright Night. Oh, yeah. Anything else thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th. And th. And th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi, tho thi. And thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi.? I'm just talking about this movie. All right. Isn't that psycho too? No? I was thinking recently that we should do psycho too. I remember being kind of bat shit when I was a kid. He directed thinner. We did direct thinner.
Starting point is 00:19:19 We're going to talk about that? Didn't we just have the writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer writer around? Is that our, is that, was that when we peaked, thinner? We came up with Stephen Kang and like we should have just stopped there. Uh, also I'm playing a gypsy. Yeah, what a great episode. That was when I spilled a milkshake on my car seat, too. And that was why that roadhead was so gross, because my car smells like a milkshake. It doesn't really anymore.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Or when Justin made that book cover that was thicker and it was like, toya corolla interior with a milkshake. Yeah. And I was like, there's a convertible carola and he was like, no. I love that Eddie Kabuto is sleeping with a gun next to him and an open porn magazine. I want to protect myself. Just dozed off. I was like a J.O. won't do this. Because we hear Charles Lee Ray at the beginning swear that he'll kill Eddie Caputo and he'll kill Chris Surrandon.
Starting point is 00:20:22 And here he has made good on one of his promises. So Andy is insisting that the doll is doing this. Right. And they put him in a little psychiatric hospital. It's such a bummer. Mom puts up no fight. I don't know. I don't know. I've never been. I know. I know. No, no. I have never either. I would think. No. I don't know what you would do. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:49 Yeah. So she's cleaning up and she like throws the box, goes to throw the box away and the fucking batteries fall out. They are also good guys branded. Do you think there was good guys brand batteries and they're like, well we need, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I, I, I, I, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, yeah, yeah, yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi, thi, thi, th we need something to sell this with. Why don't we make these dolls? Must have been. Must have been. This is a marketing ploy. These are good guys, batteries. That's really good guys. Oh, I get it.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Oh, I get it. So she flips up in the back of Chuckie, no batteries. he jumps out of her. He jumps out at her. And then she picks him up and he bites her. Oh man I really like this tall. Yeah. Oh, Chuckie has a very foul mouth. Oh, yeah. It says very disparaging things about women. He is, um, a lot less quippy in this first iteration than he is... he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he. he. he. he. And he is. he. And he is. he. And he is. he. And he is, he. And he is, he he he he he he he. And he is. And he is, he he he he he and he is is he and he is he. And he. And he and then. And he. And he. And he is. And he is. And he is. And he is. And he is. And thin, quippy in this first iteration than he is in Childs Play 2. This movie is like Childs for all of the camp and like silliness of Childs Play 2, even though it's probably a little more violent.
Starting point is 00:21:58 He's definitely more quippy, but like he that not in this one, he has not a joke to make. This is like his nightmare in Elm Street. Yes. He's not quite quite Frettytytytytytytytytytytytytytytytytytyty. He's that. He's not that. He's not full that. I have not seen any of those and I refuse to. I've seen one two and three and that's it. You've gone pretty deep though. Three's pretty deep. Three is pretty bad. That just reminded me that I was at the grocery store the other day and I saw a dude wearing a Halloween four hoodie. Damn. And I was like, word?
Starting point is 00:22:45 Damn. Wait, which one even is Halloween 4? It's the one where we've done it? No. Where Michael Myers comes back after Halloween 3. But this is the thought process that I had. This is how much politics have fucked my brain up. Because I saw that sweatshirt and I was like, oh weird, who's into that movie? Oh, that, that, that, that, that, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th we th we's a weird, thu thu and thu and I thu thu th, th, th, th, th, thui, where the that, thoom woom thu and I thu and I thu. thu. thu, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where th. th. th. Starting point is 00:23:08 listens to our podcast towards the waiting for us to do Halloween four it's not a it's my dumb brain I was just like oh come on brain what are you doing oh this guy just likes Halloween for it's got a great opening rest of the movie not so good great opening are you sure we haven't done for it to yet to the the the the the the th. the th. th. the th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. I tho. I tho. I the. I that's a great opening. Rest the movie, not so good. Great opening though. Are you sure we haven't done Halloween for it? We've not done 4. I've done 2 yet. Although I think, yeah, we've done H2O. We've done 3 Resurrection. Oh my God, we did them back to back. That wasn't even that long ago I already forgot. Boy, what are we doing Chuckie? Oh, right. thi. So he is a th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th., right, right, right. He's doing Chuckie. So he is, uh, gonna make, like, Chris Randon the whole time is like, I don't believe that this doll is killing anybody, that's stupid lady.
Starting point is 00:23:53 I'm saying you're insane. It's your fucking, you can't fall. It's your seven-year-old kid that's doing it. Yeah. Well, he's, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, well, the, the, the, the, th. Well, th. Well, th. Well, th. Well, th. Well, th. Well, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. theandon, you have to look at that, right? Like, oh yeah. What are the chances that it was this child who pushed this lady out the window or a doll? Well, he finds out that it was indeed the doll when the doll hides in the back seat of his car? Yeah. But this is after Chuckie goes to see his like voodu instructor, which this really frustrated thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu thu is really really really really really really really really really really really frustrated thu thu thu hea hea hea hea hea hea hea hea hea hea he's the hea he's he's he's he's he's he's hea. hea. he's their their their their their is their their is their is their is their is their is their is their is their is their is their is their is their is their frustrated me because Chuckie's like, you taught me how to escape death. And then he just fucking kills him. Like, why didn't he know how to escape death? Why didn't that guy know?
Starting point is 00:24:35 That guy seemed to be like, he seemed to have a, with great power comes, great responsibility vibe to him when he was like, I'll teach you this, but you should never use it. Okay. And they just, oh man, I love that he's still alive when they get to the apartment, when Chris Saranen and mom get to the apartment. His apartment is weird too because it's it feels weird to me to believe in Grigree and also have a last supper painting. Does that seem strange to you? I don't know. No, there's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's that's that's that's that's th. that's th. that's th. that's that's th. thi. that's thi's thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the they. they. they. they. they. they. the the they. the they. the the they. the they. the they's thi. thi's th's there's Catholicisms all wrapped up on that stuff. Really? Oh yeah, yeah. I don't know anything about it but it just seemed very disparate to me. Like, uh, hoodoo and voodoo are like amalgams of Catholicism and like African religions. And then, you know, kind of that own, like, spice thrown into it of being like, thrown into it. Like, thu their thuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thu, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thu, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu, thu. thu. thu. thu. ths. I don't know much about much. Yeah. Yeah. And Grigree is just like a part of it like they kept talking about it like that was what they were doing but as far as I know like Gregery is just these little bags that you get
Starting point is 00:25:32 there's probably more to it than that. Yeah. Like I have a Grigree bag somewhere somewhere around here. What do you do with it? It's just like a like a little like spill component component component component component component component component component component component component component component component component component component component component th th th th th th th th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's like, th. th. th. th. that's like, that's like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that's like, that's like, that's like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. that's like, that's like, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's that's that's like, that's like, that's like, like, like, like, like, that's like oh this will bring you good luck one of those type things but will it protect you from death I mean maybe find out fine down shoot me oh my god so you said that like I'd throw to gut in her hands so the guy explains to him what's going on is like oh yeah he's just knows the vood and that's why his back has a doll. Yeah. The adorable knife that he has now. It's pretty cute. And the guy's like, no, you're a monstrosity. This you can't, I can't help you. Yeah. He's like, all right. Well, fuck you then. It just breaks his voodoo doll legs and then kills him. Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the the the the the the th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. th. the the the th. the th. the th. the the the the the the the the adorable. the adorable. the adorable. the adorable. the adorable. the adorable. He's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the th. the the the the the love it was great. Yeah, I did too. You were right
Starting point is 00:26:25 though it was after Chris Sarandon is in the car. I'm sorry. Oh, is it okay? Yes. Because my note before that just is just fucking break Chris Sarandon. I love all the stuff of, is it at Charles Lee Ray's apartment that has all the paintings on the walls? He's not getting that security deposit back. What the fuck was he thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. to. to. to. to. t. te. th. thi. th. th. th. thi. th. the. ththe walls. He's not getting that security deposit back. What the fuck was he thinking? It's all these weird, like almost quasi-satanic paintings that he's in all of them. And it's Brad Durif, like with his luster's hair. He's just like kneeling at the feet of like, ugh, of these evil god or something. Oh God, I love it so much. So bananas.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Like I had no idea that this movie would be this fucking bonkers. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. How did you imagine that it would go? I don't know. I don't like, I never knew like, there's like a recap at the beginning of two. Let me ask you a quick question. When we did two, was that the only time you've th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the th. th. the th. the th. the th. th. the the th. the the th. the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the. thi. the. the. thi did two, was that the only time you've ever seen that? Yeah. Okay, okay. This is such a weird hole in your... It is. Because they were extremely popular films. I think I was just like, nah, dull movie. I don't watch that.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Is that how you feel about the conjuring movie or whatever? Not the contrary. She likes to make me go to see terrible horror movies with her. Great job, Becky. And then I made her to go see hereditary with me and she was not happy afterwards. Oh man. Oh, I saw Celeste over the weekend and we discussed her bird box versus hereditary thing. Yeah. She stands by it, man, thinks it's scarier. That is that shit crazy to me. I expressed her that you, I and I and I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, toed, that you, I, and everyone believed that. I can't remember. One of our fans were just like, what?
Starting point is 00:28:07 What? Yeah. I mean, she's wrong. I said to her, you're wrong, you're clearly wrong. And she was like, well, it's just my opinion. And I was like, well, it's a wrong opinion. Climate change and hereditary is scary. Yep. But I really loved like the voodoo doll breaking the limbs.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Like I loved the effect of that. Like I'm almost like did he not really have a leg? Because the way they broke it looked fucking real like they broke his broke as leg. Yeah. Well good. It was great. The effects in this movie are so good.
Starting point is 00:28:41 It's so fucking good. The effects in too too too too too too too too too too too too too too too too too too to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to my god that I will chuckie the melting chuckie at the end of that movie will stick with me for the rest of my life. I also think the chuckie at the end of this movie is very creepy. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah for sure. And it's just like oh god get off Karen's couch. But that's neither here nor there. I have the note, Chuck, he's saying fuck you to the lady who says he's ugly, it's pretty classic. Oh, that was on the elevator. It's like the only real quip he has is the woman's like, oh, an ugly doll. And he's like, fuck you.
Starting point is 00:29:18 And that's funny. Yeah. And that's funny. It was really funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. that's funny. Yeah. that's funny. that's funny. they. they. they. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. He's funny. He's funny. He's funny. He's funny. th. th. th. th. th.uke. th. th.uke. th. th. th. thu. the. the. the. the. He's funny. He's funny. His mentor tells him that he has to find the first person he told that he was real, which is hilarious. Yeah, that's like a stipulation of this whole thing. That carries forward throughout the series because if you remember he tries to get Andy again in the next movie for the same reason and in a third movie it's like he's trying to tell other like it was on like USA Network and I remember like kneeling on my grandmother's bedroom floor watching it on her little TV on cable and being like what is this? Because I just need to tell you guys I just I need to tell you something. He's like I tell you something. It's me Chuckie. So he's got to because he's he's turning human human to chucky form and this is when he he he he is he he is he he he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he's he's turning human in Chuckie form. And this is when his face is transforming and he now has a human heart because that's the first thing that changes.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Because Karen shot him or Mike, maybe Mike shot him, someone shot him and it hurt and he was shocked that it hurt. And so basically he can put himself into the first person he told's body instead of the doll. Which is Andy. Little tiny Andy in his football coat. So he has to run back to the apartment, which I love that he gets back to the apartment so fucking quick. When he goes back to, he goes to the hospital first, where Andy is, right? Oh, that's right. With the mental hospital, yeah. Yeah, and like, just running up steps. Yeah, he had running up steps. I thought just like that scene of him from like across the to.
Starting point is 00:30:44 . I thought was really good. I thought just like that scene of him from like across the way, you just see his like brightly colored clothing going up the stairs. I thought it was really good. Also, oh I just remember the man in a Chuckie costume or in a good guy got a doll costume in the beginning commercial and how fucking creepy that was. But when Andy sees him running towards the hospital, it's like, oh God, he's coming to kill me. How does Andy know he's coming to kill him? They were like buds up until this point. Because he ratted him out.
Starting point is 00:31:09 He knows he snitch. That's true. And that scene, I know, I'm very soft. And that scene, I know. me in the hospital was like breaking my goddamn heart. That doctor was a real piece of shit. Just trying to give him sedatives and knock him out. I mean, from that guy's perspective, this kid was just bonkers, but still. The guy is a very difficult job, I guess.
Starting point is 00:31:32 But you know what? He gets his? Would you like to describe how he gets his? I don't remember off the top of my head. just fucking burns him to death. Okay, this grossed me out. Oh yeah. When he was bleeding out of his eyes and his teeth? Yeah. He's real gross. I thought it was great. There's just something about that.
Starting point is 00:31:52 I was like, ugh, I don't like this at all. Bleeding out of your teeth is a nightmare. Yeah. Just the idea that you're clunching your teeth so hard. But also were they using that on little kids? Sure. Come on. It's 1988. I said sure like I know. You're like yes in the 80s. That is certainly how they treated children with delusions. So Andy sneaks out, locks Chuckie in but Chuckie gets out. In the hospital. He does a great job here. This kid is six. He's wouldn't plans together better than I could for sure. I would just lie down and die. Which is my the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. I's. th. I's. I together better than I could for sure. I would just lay down and die, which is my usual, you know, response to everything. Lie down, die. But so Annie runs home, Chuckie follows him.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Mom and Chris Sarandon are in hot pursuit as well. Are you glad they didn't make out? I'm a little disappointed. I thought it would have been a little weird. It wasn't the time that I'd be making it now. It worked in invasion of the bodies. It was a great time of stress. You want to just French roll cruex?
Starting point is 00:32:51 I took my tongue in your mouth real quick. Oh, that's how we do. Oh, that's how we do. Bled. I love the fireplace? Yes. Yeah, so good. And then it's like kicking the cage out of the way. Oh, what a dick. Chucky's such an asshole.
Starting point is 00:33:11 I love that his voice is also getting more Brad Duref. Because at the beginning I thought, oh, is he not actually voicing Chuck? No, he was. And then he does. It becomes very obvious at the end that he is. Yeah. Because it is still the same Chuckie voice has just got like a rasp to it now. Yeah. And then he fucking hits Andy with a baseball bat.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Like you have to think, this is 1988 and there's a doll beating a small child with a baseball bat. That is really like, that's controversial. For sure. Yeah, yeah. It is, it's wild. It's wild like, it's wild like, it's wild like, it's wild like, it's wild like, it's wild like, it's wild like, like, it's wild like, it's wild like, like, it's wild like, like, it's wild like, like, like, it's wild like, like, it is it's wild like I think also the idea of You and your kid burning your kids favorite doll who's screaming in a fireplace is also like oh, that's traumatic A. Yeah Yeah Yeah, yeah, it's like having to your mother holding back your favorite doll into the fireplace while you have to run up and try to strike a match like. And then he goes, but Andy we're friends. To the end. And then Annie lights in the fuck on fire. This is the end, friend? Andy, when did you get so quippy? He's so saucy? He's so sassy. that scene, but only in that scene, because otherwise
Starting point is 00:34:26 he's just a very sweet child. So they burn, they burn Chuckie. He's all black and charred and flaky. And they're like, well, that's done. Let's go get the first aid kit and help Chris Sarandon, who's been stabbed by Chuckie. Oh, he like straight turns his back on Chuckie though. Like, why did he do that? And Chuckie also knocked him the fuck out with a baseball bat. Oh yeah, Chuck he... I'm trying to think of who would be a famous Chicago baseball player at the time. Big hurt, Frank Thomas.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Okay. Probably two. I don't know. No, that's from the Chicago Bears in 86. I wouldn't think so. Super Bowl shuffle? No? Okay. So they're like, okay, Chuckie's fine. And then of course, mangled ass burnt Chuckie comes back to kill them. Looking great. Looking so good. There's just little teeth in the blackened mouth. Mmm. Good. Mm-mm. It's like a tasty morsel too. Mm-hmm. Just a toll house cookie. So he, uh, they eventually like mom shoots him, shoots off a leg, she's off an arm, and decapitates him. Yes. And then... It's not enough.the guy who I've dubbed wrestling mustache cop. Uh-huh. Who has like the Hulksters stash comes in and they're like, don't pick up that doll.
Starting point is 00:35:52 Don't touch that doll. Jack Santos. Jack Santos. Yeah. Chris ran. It's like whatever you do, don't tou tou. And the guy's immediately like, what is this a head? I'm gonna pick that up and what happens it up takes it into the room where the the traumatized child and the injured officer are and he's like look at the shit you fucking morons and then Chuckies torso rips out of the wall after him oh my god it's so good it's really fucking creepy screaming like choke him choke him why is he saying that who is he talking to his body they shoot him in the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the try. tre true is is tre he saying that? Who is he talking to? His body. Mm-hmm. They shoot him in the heart and Chuckie's, Chuckie dies. And Chris Rand is like, so now do you believe me? Wrestling Mustache cop? He's like, I do, but who's gonna believe me? I don't know, you're both cops. Yeah, man. You know what I mean? And the movie ends with Andy looking back over his shoulder into the apartment
Starting point is 00:36:47 as they're leaving. It's interesting that you refer to him as wrestling mustache cop because I remember seeing him on WCW getting into a chucky getting into a feud with Rick Steiner. Chuckie did? Yes. Oh, that fucking reminds me. We asked Scream 4? Screform. Scorform. Eps. What's up with David? What's up with David? I mean? What's that's that? that? that? that? that? that that I that that that that that that that that that that I that that that that? that that that? that that? that? that that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that? that the the that? that that that that that that that that th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I that fucking reminds me. We asked Scream 4, Screform, Scroform, episode, What's up with David Arquette? Yeah. Oh, he wrestles now. Oh, okay. And like is doing like underground wrestling. Okay. Seems fine. He did a death match at one point. No, I don't know. Yeah. David Arcad, he's an old man, right? Apparently, at least like in his late... If not 50.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Yeah. He, um, because apparently he had the WCW belt at some point in like the 90s. What? But like it was like fucked up that. I had no memory of that. Yeah, it was like a scam that he got it. Oh, I cannot imagine a scam in professional wrestling. That doesn't sound right to me. So now he's like, I'm atoning for that and I'm wrestling. Oh wow. Okay. Okay. What? Okay. So thanks to the person on Twitter who let us know about that. Thank you. And thanks to Mike Bollum for giving me the full load of what was going on? I did ask him about it. He didn't just offer it. Oh, and by the way. So that is Child's Play.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Yeah. 1988. You want to rate this thing? I do. You go first. I fucking love this movie. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Yes. Yes. dumb last week. I know. Oh, did you do it to throw me off? Yes, I did. Conceptually, it's hell a dumb. There's no nothing scary about a doll that's coming to kill you. Are you wrong? Unless it's a this movie or a Zuni fetish doll from Trilogy of Terror? I don't know what that means. Yeah. Yeah. It's Karen Black movie from the 70s. Okay. So it's a it's really well done. It's really well directed. The acting is top notch. Chris Sarandon is Chris surrounding all over this thing. It's fucking great. Yeah. I'm gonna give this movie a nine. It's so good. I am shocked. Shocked. This movie an invasion of the body snatchers of the same rating. Same fucking rating. Boy oh, our ratings are so flawed.
Starting point is 00:39:05 What did you think of Childs Play? Oh, 10. Oh, nice. Yeah. See, I love Childs Play, too, because it's a absolute delight to watch, right? Like, it's so silly. The, the, the, like, it's more violent, but the violence is like, it's cartoony. It's cartoony and there's he like melts into this disgusting pink
Starting point is 00:39:26 Globby disgusting globby disgusting mess and it's like a Rube Goldberg device that gets into that situation Good guy's factory. No, I love a factory. Yeah, but this is good for all of the other reason like the opposite reasons of that. It is like dark and it is brutal and it's like bleak as fuck. This movie, I recently watched Chud because it was on, Joe Bob Briggs did it. Oh yeah, yeah. And this movie is bleaker than Chud and that is about homeless people being turned into monsters by the government dumping radiation into the sewers. Yeah. This movie is just about a voodoo, crazy man, make it a doll.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Yeah. But it's bleak and shit. Yeah. Yeah. It's perfect. It's good. Yeah. I hope we don't ever do Childs Play 3 because I don't want to have to not give it a 10. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, can I take you to a place called Mailbag?
Starting point is 00:40:26 Oh, please. I don't have the exact words in front of me because I just remembered it. But, and this is from our Skraform episode also. OK. A listener shadow asked, have any horror masters ever done a good film as their last film before they died? Ooh. The best I could come up with was Hitchcock and family plot, which isn't great. What do you think? And I should have asked you
Starting point is 00:40:48 ahead of time so that you could think about it. I'm trying to think of yeah, oh I don't know. Like what was Romero's last film? Like some dumb of the dead, right? Like something terrible of the dead. I was not a fan of like those later of the dead movies. Nobody was right. I mean I'm sure. Sorry. Of course the guy in the Halloween 4 switcher is like guys. Guys. Come on. I love later entries. Yeah. Yeah I don't know. I don't know. I was thinking Kubrick. But eyes wide shut was what he went out on. Oh boy, oh boy. Yeah, I don't think so. I don't think, I think directors,
Starting point is 00:41:29 it seems like you have X amount of like good movies because Argento, I've still live, like, yeah, Fulch's last movie was Door to Silence, and I've never seen that one, so maybe that's good. It's probably his masterpiece. Door to silence. It sounds bad, Alan. Yeah, there's got to be something that I'm just not thinking of who would. But yeah, I can't think of anybody who's like in, like, their swan song was like, oh, that's fucking hell a good. Look at that.
Starting point is 00:41:59 Yeah. I think it's a sort of love diminishing returns almost. It's a bummer. I love, but then again, like, I love carbon movies. And later era carbon movies are fucking, in my opinion, hot carvage. He might do something really great before he dies. He might. But also, like, he's got that second career of doing,
Starting point is 00:42:18 like the soundtrack, he's doing that are fantastic. But like I think you, it seems like you have a few really really really, tha, tha, tha, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, a to the the the th.. A, a th. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. the the that are fantastic. But like I think you it seems like you have a few really good movies in you if you're a really great, like even Spielberg like he doesn't make like great movies anymore in my opinion. What was the last great movies even Spielberg made? I don't know. It wasn't AI. Like Ready Player One was the last movie he did. Oh boy. Yeah I know people liked that book. I've heard of the movie is not good. No. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. the th. the the the th. the the the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. th. the. did. Oh boy. I know people liked that book. I've heard of the movie is not good. No. But like I think you just, it seems like a fire that burns brightly, but. Is it better to burn out or to fade away? What if we ask that question in every episode of now?
Starting point is 00:43:00 It matters. Lincoln was okay. Okay, I never saw Lincoln. Indiana Jones in the kingdom kingdom the kingdom the kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom the kingdom was the the the th. th was the the the th was th was th was th was th was the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th was th was tho tho tho the was the was the was the thea thea thea. thea thea. thea. thea thea. Indiana Jones in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. People liked that. Oh, they didn't. Well, thanks, Shadow. That's a real thinker. I know.
Starting point is 00:43:14 I think it was being asked rhetorically. I was like, well, we're going to answer that. Don't worry, Katie's got to get a text at like three th. Katie's gonna get a text at like 3 o'clock in the morning where I can't sleep. And I'm like, it just says, Baba! Oh, it might be Baba. Look it up. Bava's real good. Are we talking Lombardo?
Starting point is 00:43:30 I don't know. I'm Mario. Mario, Mario, Mario. Mario, Mario. Babba's last movie. that's any good? Yeah. Yeah. But anyway, it's got Dariah and Nickelode in it. You love her from Dario Argento movies. Oh yeah, she, um, that was his wife at the time. That he kept killing in all the movies.
Starting point is 00:43:52 But yeah, thanks for that question. It's a, Katie's gonna get a text message at 3 a.m. thank you. Thank you. I will turn my phone off. the next episode. Or what did I say? What did I suggest you want to do? What did you just tell me we were going to do? You cannot turn that around on me. Oh God, I was just strong-armed into doing the two and a half hour epic, the new Suspheria. Yeah, we're going to tackle the new Suspheres. People have been asking you for us for to do this. Yeah. Oh, Alan said we have we have a a a a the the the the the to. We to. We the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to to to to to to to to to to to the to the the the the the the the the the the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next the next to the next to to the next to to to to to to to to to to to going to tackle the new Suspirus. People have been asking for us for it to do this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Alan said we have a month to watch it, so I will spend the next month watching that movie. I think we're a couple few weeks out from because of vacation schedules and stuff. Yeah. No, I'm going to spend a month watching it. It's like abs, eight minute abs, eight minutes suspicious. Eight minute, uh, so yeah, we're gonna do the Suspire remake and see how mad we get. Probably pretty mad. I don't know, maybe it'll be like to child's play it. I'll be totally shocked that I loved it. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:44:58 So get us on the internet, leave us a nice review, five stars only, please. That's all that they'll accept although someone left as a one star review recently and we were very upset about it I'm still thinking about it I heard someone tell you about podcast reviews and they're like if you're just if you're getting five and one star reviews You're doing something right. I don't want one stars. I only want fives right, but you're doing something well enough that you're doing something well enough thrown. you're not just you you you you th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. the th. th. th. the th. th. the th. th. the the th. the th. the the the th. the the the th. the the th. th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. Maybe I'm just lazy, but I can't imagine wasting my energy on, I was, nah, about this thing. I have literally never made a podcast review in my life, and I listen to a lot of podcasts. So, thanks for listening to another episode of World thuf Ambulance. Bye.
