Starting point is 00:00:00 I guess I just felt like it was a bit of an indictment of like capitalist culture and just like really bougy, like, why do you need an open concept, kitchen living room, dining room, or like why do you need a spa-like bathroom? Or like, why do you need a spa-like bathroom? Wait, that was your takeaway from this movie? Movie? It was a TV show. Um, huh? Wait, was I not supposed to watch three episodes of house hunters?
Starting point is 00:00:39 No, you were watching the show about the doctor with a cane that's got a bad attitude? Yeah, why is his attitude so bad? You're a doctor? You ever seen that show? It's because he's over-annunciating his American accent. Oh, is he a Brit? Yes. You know that. That's a very British name.
Starting point is 00:00:55 Yes. Yes. The only worst American accent is Benedict Cumberbatch. I've never heard him do it. I'm not gonna do it. I'm not gonna not gonna you fucking you can't do it You gotta watch a doctor strange movie to see that happen spa like bathroom This whole thing has to go. I was watching a British house hunter show. I can't remember what it was called flat hunters. That's not even a British accent. I don't know what I was doing there You come over honey. I got plant hunters. Oh, but it was just like do you want to live in a a a a to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. t. tree. t. te. te. te. te. th. th. th. th. S. th. th. th. S. th. S. their th. You come over honey I got plant on us. You ain't a plant on us. No. But it was just like, do you want to live in this country house? And it was like, yeah, I do want to live in that country house.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Yeah, did they? I don't, I didn't watch all of it. After I agreed to live in it and they were giving it to me, I walked away. Uh, Steve Miner I directed I directed I directed I directed I directed I directed I directed I first movie. Warlock. Warlock. However, we made very much fun of him. He got better, I think. What year was Warlock? Early 80s? Right around the same time.
Starting point is 00:01:53 Is this really thing? Potentially after, is what you're saying? Yeah. Yeah. Potentially. I mean, there's just a lot of great Steve Minor touches, like the scene where our main character, Roger is walking down the street with his like book agent or whatever, and it's being filmed from across the street as traffic passes them very quickly. Why? It's so stupid.
Starting point is 00:02:12 It's so distracting. It's just like, that's that good Steve Minor, I, you know what I mean? Warluck was three years after this movie. Oh, he did not have Julian Sands eating pudding with his hands though. Julian Sands, that's his name, right? It is the warlock, the titular warlock. The titular warlock. The title were like Eating With His Handings from Warlog.
Starting point is 00:02:34 It's been a while. What, uh, what movie are we doing? Oh, House Hunters International. House hunters and renovations. I like that show because you can watch people descend into madness anyway. I've never watched any of those shows. I just, I like them for the, just like watching people be terrible and have terrible things happen to them. I have to, I have to correct myself.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I had, did watch a marathon of tiny houses at my sisters once? See, I fucking hate tiny houses, and I feel like I've said it on here before. Why? I have. I won't say it again. Go back and listen. Find the tiny house references into your Googler and see what happens. Plus whereof ambulance ambulance, plus trailers, plus my people. Plus horses are evil. We're doing actual house. From the title of the movie, actual house. From 1986, story by Fred Decker. Fred Decker, writer of Monster Squad, and something else I like.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Why can't? I pull it right now, Night of the Creeps. Night of the Creeps. They're the same movie. They're not at all, but I like it. Also Roboc Cop 3 and... Here's the one? Yeah. There's a reason that that movie got panned. that got panned for no apparent reason because they're masterpieces. Is this one of them? Uh, we will find out, won't we? We talked about doing this movie for a while because we both really have fun memories of it?
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Oh also I should have mentioned when I was like trying to tell you who William Cat is and I just kept saying Greatest American Hero and you had no idea. Yeah, I don't know what that is. He's the hot guy from Carrie. Oh, he is. And he's still hot. Oh my god, that sweater. I mean, if you're gonna wear a sweater, have it show your navel, right? Like, is there a swooping V? Is that what that would be called? I mean, if you can put on deodorant without getting inside the sweater, like, it is, if you could walk into your sweater? Yes. If your sweater looks like the sweater. Like it is from the neckline. If you could walk into
Starting point is 00:04:45 your sweater. Yes. If your sweater looks like the Liberty Tunnels, you might be William Cat. It's got it almost felt like it was from the Chris Surrendon collection. Yes, although he would be more boatneck. He likes to show him more clavicle as opposed to Sturnum. Just the first three beers in that six pack. Yeah, just just give him a, it's like giving them a hint, but also the hint is the whole thing. But then I was like, well, what shirt do you wear under that? I don't think you do. I think he's doing it right. I think he's wearing it as intended, you know. Like a turtleneck? It's just gonna look weird.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Then you would look like a weird preacher, I think. Or like a Star Trek villain. Yes, it is very Star Trek villain. Oh man, oh man. So this is the story of a man whose life has gone to poop. Yeah, a Vietnam veteran who has divorced his wife following the, early separated from his wife, following the loss of their child who's gone missing, their only child. And he's a horror writer. Mm-hmm. And I, in my mind, this movie was very funny.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Oh yeah. In reality, I felt very bleak about it. It takes like an hour before it's like, oh, that's right, we're a horror comedy. Yeah, I think he started writing a real bleak movie and then was like, but what if we got Norm from Cheers and a bunch of like rubber monsters? How would that work out? And fucking bull from nightcourt? You love nightcourt, right? Boom.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Yes. I do. I watched a lot lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot thaaaaa. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. thoom. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. thatobbob-ba-boom. Yes. I do. I watched a lot of nightcourt when I was a kid. Richard Moll? Not a lot of range. No, he's one of those people who's always sort of yell, yell, yell, talking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:38 And it's not to great effect. And he's all the today. He's a lot like, he's a lot like, um, putty from Seinfeld, Patrick Warburton. Okay, but Patrick Warburton is doing that. You know what I mean? He's being putty. And Richard Moll is acting. Yeah, he is putty. He's 6 foot 8 by the way. Is that his wrestling height? That's huge. That is huge. He was 6 foot when he was 12 years old. Oh my God. Yeah, he's. Yeah, he. Yeah, he. Yeah, he. Yeah, he. Yeah, he is. Yeah, he is. he he he. he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he. Yeah, he is he. He is he he he's he. He is he. He is he. He is a th. He is a th. He is a th. That is huge. He was 6 foot when he was 12 years old. Oh my God. Yeah, it took me to 14 before I got to 6 foot.
Starting point is 00:07:11 I was like 22 when I hit 6 feet. Really? Yeah. And then I went right back on 5 8. I'm so high, I'm Six feet, maybe six one. His wife and he have separated. I think they are divorced because he keeps yelling he's divorced at people who ask him to say hello to his wife for him at the book signing. She is a terrible actress, that actress.
Starting point is 00:07:37 It's hard to say, because we see a lot, his wife is an actress on a soap opera, and we see her acting on the show, which is worse than the actress's actresses' actresses' actresses' actresses' thriresresresresres actress.. It thia's thia's thia's thi, it thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's all very very very very very very very very very very very very very very th. It's th. It's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, thi, thi, thi, see her acting on the show, which is worse than the actress's actual acting in the movie, it's all very bad. I think it's supposed to be, because it's supposed to be, because it's soap opera, yeah, yeah. I know, but like, it's amazing to me that she's like, okay, now I'm going out how to smile. Yes, and she has extreme 80s eyebrows. They're so thin and so like arched and she's just, they're practically disappearing into her hairline. I don't mean to make fun of her appearance. No, no, no. Boy, howdy. But she just got one of those smiles and was like, are those your teeth? I don't think so? I don't th, I don't th, I don't th, I don't th I don't th I don't th I don't th I don't th I don't th I don't th I don't th I don't thin I don't thin thin thin thin' th th th th th th th th thin, I don't think thin. I don't th thin' tho thin' tho thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin, thin. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the an the playing the wife. Sandy. I love the lineup of people that are getting books signed by him. Now, I hate that because what does that say about horror fans?
Starting point is 00:08:34 Like all fucking freaks, right? Except when the punk rock girl walks up and she's like, hey, can you sign this? And he's like, hey, I like your hair. She's like, cool. Yeah, thanks. Like the woman who looks like a stereotypical freak is the most normal human being that he interacts with. It's true. But she's still the butt, like the butt of a joke.
Starting point is 00:08:50 I guess, yeah, yeah. I just don't like, I mean, you're making a horror movie movie. It's for horror fans, you know? You can't just call us all freaks. There's some truth in those jibes though. I've been to enough horror convention. Really? I've still never been to a horror convention in my miserable life. Probably never gonna. No?
Starting point is 00:09:11 Nah. What am I, what's it for? What am I gonna do there? We have a horror movie podcast? We could go there in a glad hand, the crowd. Yeah, we did talk about doing that at the on the table. We can still do it. Well remember then we were like we don't want to actually talk to people and then we stayed home. Yeah, that's how it went. So Roger, he has lost his aunt Elizabeth who has hung herself and is found by a grocery delivery boy and she's swinging like a god damn pendulum. She looks like one of those, um, like it's like one of those balls where you, there's five of them. There's. There's the the the the the the the the the there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's th. Yeah, th. Yeah, that's. Yeah, that's. Yeah, th's. Yeah, th's. Yeah, th. Yeah, th's. Yeah. And she's swinging like a goddamn pendulum. She looks like one of those,
Starting point is 00:09:46 like it's like one of those balls where you, there's five of them and you drop one and the fifth one clacks and they just keep clacking because she never stops moving. How long had she been hanging and swinging like that? Was there like a large industrial fan on like what? I love that she was a d-augh........ I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I's. I'm the th. I'm th. I'm th. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, the. It's. It's like, th. It's likethe the delivery boy walks hitting is it's the grocery delivery boy if you're walking in that house you guys should know each other you should be on unnamed basis it's true it should be Billy yeah Billy yeah she's swinging I thought that looked great yeah and it just it kicks it off real good and you see all of her weird art because people in horror
Starting point is 00:10:20 movies always have the worst art which in this film actually ends up meaning something sure like like my eyes th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th that th th th that th th th th th th that that th that th that th th that th th th that th th that that th th th th that th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. tho tho tho tho tho thoooo thooooooooo thoooooooooooooooooooooo that that that that that the worst art, which in this film actually ends up meaning something. Sure. Like, my eyes are rolling so hard right now. Did she paint the painting that the woman in mausoleum bought? Remind me what it was. She buys that like weird, like pirate ship in space and like the booby lady? Yes, oh she definitely painted that and the art from terror vision, the like, uh, what was it??? th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thir thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, my my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, my eyes, like, like, my thi thi, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, their thi, their thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi-i-a-a-a, thi-a, my eyes, thi's th Yes, oh she definitely painted that and the art from terror vision the like was it an iron with boobs on it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:50 That you did an artist rendering of for our live show which is like lost to the ages because there's like no record of that image. I'm sure you have it I have it somewhere yeah like only the people who were there ever saw it yeah I don't think I ever posted it to so she needs no keep it to to to the the to the the the the the the the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. the the they. the the the the the the the they. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the only the people who were there ever saw it. Yeah, I don't think I ever posted it to So Shmeeds. No, keep it to us. Keep it secret. Keep it safe. Oh, speaking of Soch Meads, yeah. Cinematically correct, coming at us. They just did an episode on Clue.
Starting point is 00:11:13 They're challenging us on the, on the Twitter. Should we just like physically fight them or soon as they posted something about it being a battle between us, I got like a knot in my stomach and felt real ago. I was like, no, am I going to hurt somebody's feelings? I can be pushing they're younger than us, which I feel like makes them more agile. So you're talking about physical altercation. Isn't that what this is leading up to? Aren't we going to meet on a the This isn't... Well, how do beefs end? I've seen Biggie and Tupac.
Starting point is 00:11:49 You know what I mean? History's only beef. It was like the War of 1812 and Bicke and Tupac. Right. But it was a... This is going to end with Shug Knight backing over one of us in a parking lot, but I don't know who yet. Thank God that man's in jail. Honestly, please don't let him see the light of day again.
Starting point is 00:12:08 But he's such a nice man. But yeah, so go listen to that episode of Cinematically Correct and then compare the two. Or don't because we're no, no, there are enemies, don't give them listens. Or listen, they question people to see which one they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked they liked to the one they liked they liked to their their to their their to their. their. th. th. tho. the. to their. thi. the. thi. thi. thi. them. them. their their their their their their their their their their their their their. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their. their. their. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. to. to. to people to see which one they liked better. Hmm. I think that's what gave me the knot in my stomach. It's like, somebody gonna like somebody else besides me? Yeah. Wait, they wanted to see who like, people liked us better than them? I like that.
Starting point is 00:12:33 I'm quoting Twitter now. This week is a battle of the podcast episode. Where wolf ambulance and us both discuss clue on the same week, comment below and let us know who did it better. Well, what do the comments say? I don't know. Don't look, don't look. His aunts did. He inherents the house.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Yeah. He's being shown around by a real estate agent who is like being very put off that he doesn't need a tour of the home. It's his aunts. It's his aunts. . It's his aunts. He doesn't need to be shown around. Even if it didn't turn out that he had lived there at some point. I have never lived in my aunt's house. I know where the fucking bathrooms are. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:09 And it goes also crassely talking about how he can sell everything in the house. Yeah, it's gross. I think it's just a condemnation of really about real estate and how, um... It is a rad house though. Oh my god. I love that floor in the entryway. Yeah, it's gorgeous. I tear it all up. Put down, what's it called?
Starting point is 00:13:33 What's it called? Make it the tollin' it? Make it look like hardwood. And like two property brothers. Uh-huh, uh-huh, you want to put them in the house, just to walk around and tell you where you are at all times. So you can like do, you can sled down there or foreheads. Because they are so slopy browned.
Starting point is 00:14:01 Maybe that should be our new beef. We came for ematically correct. We came for my favorite murder, which by the way, listener of the show, Cat warned me on Twitter that they might come for us. Yeah. And so we've quashed that beef. No, no, no, no. I will take on all of their goddamn murder-you-know-what. And now we're coming for the property brothers. Next, Oprah, I think, and then Jesus, and then where you go home. We are really pumping, or punching up, and pumping up.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Pump it up and punch up. Up the jams, pump, um. Anyway, there's a movie. No, but there's bebebs, which is the plural of beef. Beaves, beaves and butts. So he's like, now I'm not gonna sell the house, I'm going to live here. And why wouldn't you? Because your child went missing there and it ruined your marriage. And we see in flashback that he's like outside trimming the hedges and his kid is playing in the yard.
Starting point is 00:14:54 And then there's like, he looks back, he looks away, and he looks back, and his kid's gone. Yeah. And he doesn't run after it's the thi. And he's the the front and there's a car peeling away. Yeah. And he doesn't run after it. Like how is that not your first instinct? Yeah, I don't know, especially it looked like a scuzzy guy's car. It looked like a scuzzy guy car. And it's like, it's a very rich, quiet street and it's like straight peeling out. Yeah. But also, it wasn't. That was literally just someone peeling out. Or was it? Who could it have been? The ghosts. Why would he drive? It's a driving ghost.
Starting point is 00:15:26 I know. It was like a weird red herring. Yeah. Because then he runs in the backyard and the kid's in the pool. Right. And he jumps in the pool. And the kid's not in the pool. He's alone. Yeah. And the FBI's like, sorry, dude. No such luck. to say that like, they didn't do everything. they. they. they. th. th. they. they. they. they. th. th. th. th. th. they. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. th. they. th. th. th. they. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. their. they. they. they. they. they. they. the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. te. te. te. ty. ty. te. tri. ty. tri. the. th. the. the. the. th, not to say that like, they didn't do everything they could, but these are like also too famous people. I feel like they're finding that kid. Sure. You know what I mean? For sure. Yeah, too famous white folk? Yeah, they're gonna, they're gonna find that kid. And their kid is like so well cast as a mix of the two of them. That child actor. Not my favorite. tha. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're thi. thi. they're they're they're thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. they're like like like like, they're like. they're like. they're like, they're like, they're like, they're like, they're in this movie, though. And who is? Oh, Robert. Big fan of Robert. Oh my God, Robert, his haircut.
Starting point is 00:16:07 That's like how Lucy looked for a long time, because she couldn't grow hair on the sides. Just like a cush ball had landed on the toub the head. Yeah. Too funny. I felt so sad for Robert. He was like, he was like, just sitting on the to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. to th. th. th. to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the the the the the. the. tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to to too. He's so tired. And then he did and he went to sleep. But also imagine if you walked into your neighbor was bathing your kid. I'd be so upset. Also my neighbors are weird. Yeah. Yeah. And you also probably just wouldn't wander into their homes and leave your child there. I have yet not done it. That's getting ahead of ourselves. Right, right. Right. Right. He moves into the house. Norm is his next next door neighbor. He moves into the house. Norm is his next next to our neighbor. Oh,
Starting point is 00:16:48 he's working on his new book about Vietnam. And so we see in flashback what happened on a soundstage in Vietnam. Right. It seems like he's not writing another horror novel. He's writing sort of like a memoir of his experience there. Yeah. What did you think thii thi. thi th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thoom thoom nor thi the the their thorou noom. I mean, they were like, how many plastic plants did you get? All right, put them all Actors? No, I got these guys. I thought you said crackers. I thought you said crackers. Crunch, crunch, crunch. I loved how bad of actors the other
Starting point is 00:17:37 nom soldiers were. Oh my god, they were terrible. They were really bad. They were really bad. And like, even the sound of those scenes sounds like you're watching like a 1940s war movie. Oh yeah, 100% yeah, yeah. Sounds really bad. I like they're the only animals in the jungle for monkeys. Yeah, well it's the jungle scene. I'm pretty sure there's birds there. No, the monkeys say them.
Starting point is 00:17:59 If I know it was led anything to believe from the movie Congo. What? Um, so, okay, so this house... I'm confused about the house. Oh, me too. Okay. It's got a demon closet. It has a demon closet. Which you're not going to like on the house hunters. You're going to open that up and be like, I don't want a demon closet.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I want a demon closet. What do you do with it? Just not going to it at midnight. The rest of the time it's just a fully functioning closet. That's true. Do you think if you like put stuff in that closet and then open it at midnight, where would your stuff be? Well, it's elsewhere. You think of demons wearing your mink stole? I'm a big stole guy. You would look great in a stole.
Starting point is 00:18:46 It looked like Joe Nameth in the 70s. Yeah, I think you would, and I think you should. I wish I looked like Joe Namath in the 70s. It's never too late to adopt a Joe Nameth 1970s look, in my opinion. No, but I- You said to be pretty drunk. And chiseled out of stone. Yeah, well. I ain't got got got got got got got that chicked that chizzededededededededed that chizzed that chizzed that chizzed that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that chiseled that that that that that that that that chiseled that that that that that that that that that that that that that that their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. out of stone. Yeah, well. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:06 I ain't got that chiseled face like Mr. Namath. So he finds out, while he's in the house and he's writing his very depressing PTSD flashbacks, he hears noises coming from upstairs. And he goes upstairs and opens the door and there's a big puppet monster in there. Yeah. Which I loved. Yes. Agree. and there's a big puppet monster in there. Yeah. Which I loved. Yes, agree. It was given me strong in the mouth of madness vibes. Mm-hmm. Because it's all just like heads and wiggly hands.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Yes. And speaking of the demons that I loved, I love that bat with human arms skull at the end. I love that. It's like nightmare material. The practical effects in this were so good. And so her also is so bad. Like the Sandy Monster? I mean it's intentionally like goofy. Yeah yeah yeah but her like big old belly. I loved the Ben zombie. Yeah although he gets a little too much screen time I think. He gets a little worse the more you look at him, you know.
Starting point is 00:20:03 But I felt like that was like, well we paid three, four hundred bucks for that. We're making it happen right now. Also fun fact, the stunt team in this movie was headed up by Kane Hodder, or Hodder, the guy who has played Leatherface and Jason. I don't think he's played Michael Myers yet but he wants to at some point. I'm sure you that it it it it it it it it it it it it was that it was that it was th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. the. That is a fun fact. Fun fact is.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Are you shooting fun facts at the people? Alan has opened fire, but what it's fun fete? I wish it was fun fettie. So okay so let's talk about what the house does. Okay talk about it. No you tell me. Because so Ann Elizabeth has killed herself or has been made to look like she killed herself. Yeah. But as we're told by the man standing over her grave. She wouldn't do that. She wasn't crazy like my wife, who is sobbing next to him at this grave site. She's standing right there and she's crying. So maybe could you like save it till you get home?
Starting point is 00:21:12 That was so 80s. Yeah. So, that was such like a, oof. I mean, oof. So, but who got, was it Ben that that got her? Like, is, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was a, was a, was a, was a, was a, was a. the the the the th. th. th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, the, the, the, the, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. is the house, are the problems with the house, Ben? No, I think the house is a portal to the other side. And Ben was able to come through, same said portal, and steal Jimmy. So who was like, who was bugging Anne Elizabeth?
Starting point is 00:21:40 Well, that's what we never find out, but she like kind of comes back from the dead a couple times to warn him about the house. Right. And we see her painting the very twilight zoney one where she's like floating with a door and there's a noose in it. And like an hourglass and maybe like... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:57 The pie symbol. Why? But later on in the movie when he takes the rag the rag the rag the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. thoom. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. t t toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo th t he takes the rag off the top corner. Why didn't you do that earlier? And Jimmy's in the mirror in the bathroom. Yeah. Which is a great song. English beep? No, I know it. But I was trying to think about how to incorporate.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Jimmy into it. Jimmy. Jimmy. Jimmy. to watch yourself while you are eating. Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead, Jimmy. Watch yourself while you're eating. Watch yourself while you're eating.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Yeah, that is a great song. If only we could drop it in. Sorry, Spotify. Hey guys, we're on Spotify. We are. Ten of you have. A bunch of people have. And also looking at the demographics, they are much younger than us. Oh really? Yeah, the baby guys. Maybe she's the people who use Spotify. Yeah. I mean that's why I use it because I'm very hip and young. I use it to listen to the beetle juice soundtrack.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Because my child likes to dance to jump in the line. She goes like this, I'm doing like a rodeo above my head, like a lasso. She does it does does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does it. She does. She does it. She does does it. She does does it. She does it. I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, she's a goddamn treaty. Oh god, the treasure. So, yeah, it starts to unfold that the house is some sort of portal to hell or the other side or... Okay. It seems hell. There's no like, pausey stuff that's coming through the portal. Oh, cake! And her husband has died and he doesn't seem to be like visiting her or anything. But like it manifests in weird ways. Like there's this giant fish on the wall.
Starting point is 00:23:29 It's like fucking obscene that fish when it starts moving. It's flapping around like Tilda Swinton's dick in the Suspire remake. It is gross. I found it like, erotic. Deplie erotic. It's because it's eye keeps looking at you. It's flapping and it's looking at you. Never do that.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Is that magic mic? Is that what that is? Yes, I watched that movie. Just flapping and staring and also just like, um, bringing your pelvis up towards your head. Is that Channing Dana? It is? Not. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. It's that. It's that. It's that. It's. Uh, uh, uh, is that Channing? It is. It is. It is. Yeah. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Could have been anything. Not Chris Evans? Not. Chris Evans is not Chris Hems worth. No, they're different people. No. They're different people? Uh-huh. That is 100% not true. No.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Why are they all just big buff white blonde dudes? I'm sorry. Just look to me like I was fucking stupid. Not just, have you not seen movies? I saw this one. It's, um, front of by a buff blonde dude. And Norm from Cheers is the neighbor. Yeah George wet, you're a national treasure. He has no purpose in this movie. I mean just to be comic relief, I guess
Starting point is 00:24:51 to make phone calls. Yeah, I guess he does have to make phone calls. Was it revealed at any point that he's an ex-cop or anything? Like he was so smooth. takes it and walks out. Just a nebby neighbor. Yeah. Also when, so after the first time Roger sees the monster, he devises this elaborate plan he calls Amazon, gets a prime delivery of video cameras. Why did he need so many? It turns into a paranormal activity briefly. And he's gonna capture this on like he's got all sorts of recorders and he's also in full combat gear and he's gonna jump out the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the house the the the the the the the the th. And he goes through the whole thing and slides on his knees and it's all triumph like bam-pah-ba-bar! And George
Starting point is 00:25:37 Went standing in the front yard letting his dog shit in his neighbor's neighbors from your heart. I didn't even notice that. What an asshole. I loved it so much. He's also doing that thing where he's talking about how crazy the woman that lives here lived there before it was. That's so funny. Yeah. I mean she was like bat shit. She was out of her goddamn the fucking crazy lunatic. She was my aunt. Beautiful woman. Beautiful woman. But also it seemed like Aunt Elizabeth and Tanya were friends and I kept imagining like a fun like friendship that they were having two of them like hanging out by the pool drinking colladas. Love the Pena variety. There are other colladas? No. No. No. No. He got caboodles but that's something else. That's what... That's your makeup box. Okay and then you've got a, um... never mind. Labredoodle. That's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the their they-a. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they. they. their their their their their their box. Oh, okay, okay. And then you've got a... Never mind.
Starting point is 00:26:27 A Labradoodle. That's what I was trying to think of. Yes, yes. Mm-hmm. We've left Kalada behind and goodles. Then you've got Mikaladas. What's that? That's like the tom is beer and tomatoes. Oh yeah, yeah. And then Clomato is tomato and clam juice.
Starting point is 00:26:46 And then there's, um... That's just an Ipacaque, right? You're just gonna throw up after you drink that. Oh no. I've seen the Budweiser in tomato juice. Yeah, I think that would be a micolub. And then you've got pinnadas? Micolob altradas. For people who work out!
Starting point is 00:27:12 It's real hot and I think my brain is fried. I feel crazy right now. So sweaty. So George went... We just call him Norm. His name's Harold in the movie, it matters not. He's norm. He's now like convinced that Roger's out of his mind. Which, from an outside perspective, this man is out of his mind. And he's concerned. He seems to be a fan of Roger. Yeah. Which he doesn't seem like he should be. He has a golden retriever.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Those are the people that read horror books. Really? Golden retriever people. Oh man. I think golden retriever people just like wore flannel and took walks. It does sound nice. Maybe I need a golden retriever. I just bought two new walking sticks. Really thought you were going to say dogs? No, no, no, we're good. He's got that book that he has that in his pocket every day? Every fucking day. Wall it on one side? Handkerchief and loose book on the other side. Honestly. I just like to pull page 103 out and read it
Starting point is 00:28:11 randomly. It's just like affirmations, you know. Anyway. So this escalates to where Roger's being attacked by Tanya, Sandy. His Sandy is shown up and she turns into a monster and he shoots her and then he has to hide her. She's wearing this slinky purple 80s dress. And then when she turns into a monster, she is like a very flabby, green, heavily lipsticked. Yeah. Wearing like a giant purple satin dress. And I love it. I absolutely adore it. I th, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, and she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she th, she th, she th, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she she, green, heavily lipsticked, wearing like a giant purple satin dress, and I love
Starting point is 00:28:47 it. I absolutely adore it. She was giving me strong like an evil dead army of darkness. Yes, I also thought the skull, the skull demon bat arms at the end was too, yeah. Yeah, I also thought the skull demon bat arms at Darkness would have been 91, 92? Yeah. He's totally chomped that. Probably. So he shoots his wife, and Norm sees him run outside with a shotgun,
Starting point is 00:29:11 calls the cops, doesn't see who gets shot by him. Yeah. He hides the wife's body in a, like, Harry Potter closet. And then the cops show up, and did you notice who the one fucking cop was? No, I did not. It is X from the X files. Fock, how did I miss that? Because he's a baby, he's a young guy. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:30 I saw him in something, too. Or did we see him in something? And you were like, that's X. I think so, yeah. He shows up in a lot of stuff. like just the vaguest memory of saying, that's X. Or someone saying it to me, and now I don't even remember that. And then I took X to see, I don't know what happened. I know what happened. Eventually, he cuts up the Sandy monster
Starting point is 00:29:55 and buries her all over the backyard. And then finds Norm's dog holding a hand in his mouth. Because dogs have no fucking chill when it comes to dead bodies I guess. I loved when the cop showed up and they were like oh we're gonna have to write your citation for having a discharging your firearm and he's like and the only guy they're like, yeah I am and he's like oh why don't you say something the guy puts his ticket book away? Yeah. You're famous dog? Yeah. You couldn't have possibly shot anyone. Well famous people don't th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Starting point is 00:30:28 just like whirlfamulance and they're like tiddy bell and then I'd peel off in my car. They're like I should have known it's a car. Do I like do I smell milkshakes? It sucks when it's hot. So would you say the milkshake brings all the cops to your car? And they're like, have a nice day, ma'am. Drive more safely, please. I did just notice my note from earlier on when he first see him in the house and he's making microwave dinners. 30 minutes! 30 minutes! You could get dinners. 30 minutes! 30 minutes!
Starting point is 00:31:06 You could get a pizza in 30 minutes. He didn't reduce the power. So he's on full power for 30 minutes. Were microwaves just not very powerful then? I don't know. I just remember from that period of time, having a microwave and being told that it's going to make me sterile. Yes, so that must have been a thing. Oh yeah, yeah. I mean we didn't have a microwave till I was in high school and I remember being kind of afraid
Starting point is 00:31:27 to put my hand in and like take stuff out because I thought there'd be still be like radiation or whatever in there. But then I realized that like the world isn't full of people with like fucked up right hands from reaching in and taking out their popcorns. Fucking 30 30 their their their th. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. I'm ta. I'm ta. I'm ta. I'm ta. I'm ta. I'm ta. I'm God damn. I was like, what is going on in this world? Yeah. Yeah. Also, I love how beautifully naive we were as a species just nigh on 30 years ago. Right. I mean...
Starting point is 00:31:59 That's too funny. We're all going to go sterile and our hands are going to fall off from taking our our hunger man chicken dinners out. Put it in the kitchen, keep doing it. Why, why? Like, like. Like, like. Like, like. Like, like. Like, like. Like, like. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. What, thi. What, thi. What, thi. What, thi. What, too funny. We're all gonna go sterile and our hands are gonna fall off from taking our hunger man chicken dinners out. Put it in the kitchen, keep doing it. Like why? Like why did we think that and why if we thought that did we keep doing it? You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:32:14 I don't know. Why do we do anything as a species? Back to current timeline where he is dealing with these cops, he's he's he's he's he's the cops, he's the cops, he's the cops, he's their, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's their, he's making, he's making, he's making, he's their, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to thi. to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, out around the house for no fucking reason. It's so good. Why do they come inside? But they're just being very skeptical of him. Yeah. As they should be, he's acting like a maniac. He is. He's wearing his fatigues too at that point, isn't he?
Starting point is 00:32:35 Yeah. And he's like, I didn't cleaning a loaded weapon. Yeah, right. We see the neighbor, Tanya, she's swimming in the pool. Tanya of the inexplicable accent. Tell me where she's from. Europe? Question mark? Jersey.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Hmm. Canadian, maybe. She could be from anywhere. I honestly could not tell. But like she's seemingly coming on to Roger when we first meet her. Yeah. Yeah. her. Yeah, super hard. And he's like... And she's like so hot. Yeah, totally 80s hot.
Starting point is 00:33:10 And he's totally 80s down. Oh yeah. He's D.T.T. Down to Tanya. And then she shows up later with fucking Robert. And she's like, hey, can you watch this? And he's like, I don't want to, she goes Popeye. Yeah. And full of her mouth kisses him before she leaves.
Starting point is 00:33:28 Yeah, where do you think she was going? I don't know. Poor Robert. Robert's great. Robert is adorable. How, I could not tell how old Robert was, because he didn't speak English. He was like... He's not in diapers. No, but he was either like two?
Starting point is 00:33:48 No. Or he was 13. Like I'm not 100% sure what was going on there. Honestly, Robert is just... Robert is an enigma. Whoever was making haircut decisions are Robert on point. Tanya, no. Tapered mullet.
Starting point is 00:34:03 It is so bad. Short on the sides. Baby bangs. Baby bags and Cushball. Oh, he's adorable. If there was a rat tail under that mullet, it would be perfection. He, he, he's exceptional. And also that scene of him getting dragged up the chimney,
Starting point is 00:34:20 yeah, the puppet people. Why was there not more of those puppet people? I don't know. I wanted to see their faces more, but like I think they just didn't have the, they weren't really flushed out. You know? I think much like the inverse of Ben where we saw too much of him, yeah. Seeing their faces less made them way creepier. I agree. Yeah, I agree. They they. They they. They they. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good. They were good and spooky, because they're just like laughing and dragging him up the chimney.
Starting point is 00:34:45 And Rogers just yanking him down. And Robert's like no worse for the wear. Not upset while it's happening. I think he's actually giggling while it's happening. By the time his mom comes to pick him up, he's just like, he's like, he's like, he. Those are all of Robert's lines too. But he's like a little goblin too. Maybe Robert's haunting the house. When she first drops them off and then leaves and Rogers like hey Robert you want to I don't know play with a plastic bag? Yeah
Starting point is 00:35:14 it's like whoa we're just going to killing this fucking kid and you had a child like you're a dad you're a dad! Yeah you're a monster. It's such a good like toss off line that's like, ugh, soicky. Because he's trying to work on his book, but also can I mention something that I'm working on his book, which is, how is he moving that computer from room to room? It is not a laptop, but he has it in different rooms throughout the movie. Was he hauling that like big ass tower and monitor everywhere? No way, Doug, he had multiple, this dude's a multi-thousand air. He had multiple computers and was just pulling out that three by five floppy and drop it into the next one. You think? That's dangerous.
Starting point is 00:35:54 There was always one tucked into his low cut V sweater. Oh my god. Oh my god, the sweater. I'm going to think about that's that's time. I'm going to think about wearing one just to... You should try it. No. Do you have you tried one on? You don't know. You don't know until you put it on.
Starting point is 00:36:11 I'm more curvacious than Robert is... I'm more than Robert. It's more than than Robert. that Ben is a moron and gets captured by the Viet Cong and killed. Is he a moron? Yeah, he keeps running away from the rest of the troop and being like, hey, look over there. He's, huh? Well, I think that was actually commentary, maybe I'm wrong about this, but I thought that was commentary on like being drafted for war, because he has no respect for authority, which like, like, thii. because these weren't men who agreed to serve. You know what I mean? Like people join the military and they're agreeing to, you know,
Starting point is 00:36:49 you know, give up part of themselves to listen to this like authority figure. And they want to be there. And they want to be there. And he was just like, because he even says, like, nobody's going to also didn't choose to be there. Right. But in the grand scheme of things, that's also going to keep everyone else. Oh, for sure. But I also found the scene where he's begging Roger to kill him. Yeah. Really, really depressing. Really depressing.
Starting point is 00:37:14 And then he gets dragged off by the Viet Cong. And it's just. I love, in the Wikipedia summation of to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the, the, the, the, to the, the, the, th. the, th. thi, the, the, the, thi, the, the, thi, the, thi, the, the, the, the, the, the the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, the scene, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. the. the. thei. thei. thei. thei. thei. thei. the. the. the. the. the. the. the, they're like, Ben is pissed because Roger didn't save him. And I was like, uh, he wanted Roger to kill him. Yeah, you got tortured. I'd rather be killed than tortured, too. Sure. Yeah. But it's also being delivered by Richard Mall who's giving it like,
Starting point is 00:37:37 who's giving it like, who? Yeah. He's such a squinty comedian, you know? It's like not working at all. He just has like Mo Howard for a setting and doesn't know how to turn that off. Yeah. Mm-hmm. So, go on. So, so, Norm comes over to help. Yeah. And Roger gives him a harpoon gun? The one that he's almost shot with earlier by the real estate agent. Yeah, and he tells him there's a raccoon and he needs him to shoot it right between the eyes when he opens this door. Uh-huh. Think you could do that?
Starting point is 00:38:14 Are you asking me? Yeah. Could I shoot a raccoon between the eyes with a harpoon gun? No. No. No, and I especially couldn't do it if William Kat is dancing around in front of it saying, shoot him, shoot him! Like you're right there, guy. Harpoon guns, not in water, not known for being a really perfectly aimable weapon, I wouldn't think. Yeah, they're not a precision weapon.
Starting point is 00:38:40 You're aiming for the broad side of a barn with that one. So, so, Norm like passes out, and that's basically the last we see of him. He's proved himself to be useless. I hate, there's no need for him in this movie. We see him with like a bottle of Jack Daniels and then Roger puts him on the couch and then there's like a wipe, a screen wipe. This movie's a fan of the occasional wipe. I th. th. th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. T th. There th. There th. There th. There th. There th. There th. This movie's a fan of the occasional wipe. I thought there was going to be like, oh my god, you've been gone for days. Yeah. No, I just found a bottle and got drunk when you were going for 10, 15 minutes? Yeah. Because his own batard and bolt him to the closet.
Starting point is 00:39:25 And that's when we see the the scully monster. Right. Flap it next to him. No, no, no. When he goes into the closet is when he has the Vietnam flashback of Ben. Oh, that's right. When he goes into the, he finds the painting with him, he finds the mirror of the medicine cabinet. I actually really liked this. He breaks the mirror of the medicine cabinet, and it's black behind it. We see him open it and see that there's like medicine cabinet shit behind it.
Starting point is 00:39:49 He closes the door, breaks it. It's black. He like puts his hand in and then he looks out the window. And you can see that it's like thought it was a retractable spinal column. Yeah, but it was really a phone cord covered in nubbies. And that's where he finds the giant skull flying bat with human arms. Oh, that's right, because he lowers himself down. Where did he get all that rope?
Starting point is 00:40:17 Where did he get all that rope? Where did you get all that rope? He was a numb. much rope. Yeah you just come back with that much rope. Gotcha. Welcome back to the states have 6,000 feet of rope. If I know you have to you get the hemp and rope when you go into town to buy supplies before you go out on your request. Sure and you probably took some off of norm because he also had you know a 50 foot length of rope. So you think he searched the corpse before he walked away? These are dungeons and dragons jokes for those kids out their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. to to to theeeeeeeeeeee. to to to to to to the. the. thegeons and Dragons jokes for those kids out there. They know they've seen Stranger Things and they're playing now too. It's cool I didn't start to my 30s, so.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Yeah, you're fine. Yeah. Although, like, learn second edition. It's so much better than fifth. I say you play labyrinthi. I don't know see that's too far back for me. I'm old. I'm old school. I started when I was 30s. I was in my 20s. I mean, that's when I started playing in my 20s.
Starting point is 00:41:08 We weren't that far off in timeline. That's when we met pretty much. Yeah. Wait, had you just started playing in like two? like four years into a week. Oh boy. Yeah. Yeah, I'm fucking nerds. There's still the days. They're still the days. Gaming all the time. Roger lowers himself down.
Starting point is 00:41:30 There's this crazy bat guy. And then he finds himself back in Vietnam, I think, and his kids in like a handmade cage. That's right. And I thought it was going to be like a vision or something but it's not it's a child yeah I just saw my note oh great rubbed my face I didn't get my presidential fitness award I could never climb that rope honestly who could do you have to climb a rope a rope rope oh yeah so shitty I got like six grabs up and was like yeah I'm done yeah
Starting point is 00:41:56 I can't do this anymore because I'm a girl I got to climb the rope with knots in it it oh oh yeah I got that too because I th I th I the the th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I'm th I'm th I'm to to to to the to to th I'm the to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the. the the. the. the. the. the. I the. I the. I easier. I got that too because that was a fat kid. And that's why we do this podcast. We were going to call the girl and the fat kid, but we figured that was probably already taken. Yeah. So he comes back out of the video games? So he comes back out of the swimming pool with Jimmy because it's apparently a portal as well. Yeah that was a little what what what what what what and then this is where Ben shows up and starts attacking him like in the house yeah he's firing a machine gun at them. Firing a machine gun at a child is a balsy movie move you know what I mean it's a ballsy thing to do in a movie but there's one point where he's firing the machine gun and making like that the face th no no the the th no th no th no the th no th no th no th no th no th no th no th no th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho thin that tho. th tho. And thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thin the. And the. And thin the. And the. And thin the. And there's one point where he's firing the machine gun and making like, ha da da da da faces and nothing is coming out at the end of the machine gun. No, no. And he's also quippy. Like, oh yeah. Like Rogers like, oh my God, Ben? And Ben's like nuts. You're a fairy, got another. Like what? And then he says, great, came back from the grave and ran out of ammunition. Is that something a demon toeeeaa toea too tho tho the the the the tho the the the tho the the the the the tho the the the th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. thi. thi. tho. tho. th. th. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's th. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's the. And he's th. And he's th. came back from the grave and ran out of ammunition. Is that something a demon would say?
Starting point is 00:43:05 Is it? I wanted to follow it up with, oh, nuts. Like, it was so dumb. He's so dumb. But then there's also like, his arm comes off and he puts it back on. Yeah, that was very funny. Yeah, very cool. And I also like that his, you can see his skeleton through his like ripped up fatigues. And obviously his legs were just tights with bones on it.
Starting point is 00:43:28 It was so cute. Yeah. They were like a Halloween onesy you would put your child in. I mean, if that was your Halloween costume, that would be a banging Halloween costume. Dope as hell. Be Ben for Halloween. Yeah. I also like that his face was all animatronic, so it was very expressive and moving and yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:45 It looked cool. It did. It looked very cool. All the effects looked cool in this movie. I think they all achieved what they wanted them to achieve, which is like either comedy or like, haw. You know?
Starting point is 00:43:56 Ha! Ha! Unlike next week, I can't wait to talk about that. So, it turns out like at one point, Roger is running away from Ben. He tells Jimmy to go get help because that's what you do with the kid you just got? Honestly, I would never love that kid. I'll give him into my shirt and run around with him.
Starting point is 00:44:14 Put him inside your giant sweater. I have a question. stand. Um, how, what do you think the difference was between losing Jimmy and finding Jimmy? How long was Jimmy in that cage? Judging by the look of Jimmy, weak maybe, he was the exact same kid. They got divorced and they both have assets. So that took time. Yeah, yeah. Like, it seemed like he was gone at least a year. At least, yeah. What the fuck? And he's just like, get out of here. I would literally, I would tie that kid to me like a three-legged race and I wouldn't even let him poop alone.
Starting point is 00:44:54 You know what I mean? Honestly. You know what kind of hell that is, and you would do that to a child? What, not letting that? I haven't pooped alone in so many years. Now someone brings me books though, so it's nice. That's really nice of Rob. Yeah. Someone's got to do something for me around here. And here's this Don DeLillo book I'm working on. Katie, when you read me this book?
Starting point is 00:45:20 Rob, bring me good night Pittsburgh. So, Roger's running away and he opens these double doors and they just lead to a cliff that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th book. Rob bring me good night Pittsburgh. So Roger's running away and he opens these double doors and they just lead to a cliff that's now outside of the house. There's some other portal that's been open. Yeah, it just gets real bananas. Yeah and so they have like a, uh, uh, back and forth and eventually Roger just lassows Ben and throws him off the cliff. Right. You see him like like thus the to. Yeah. Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. Uh, to. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. to. th. to. to. to. to to to. to to to to to to to to. to. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the the. the the the the the. the the the the. the the. the. the the. the. the the. the. the. the. throws him off the cliff. Right, you see him like smush onto the rocks below. Yeah, with his belt, right? Like isn't that the whole, yeah?
Starting point is 00:45:48 Which I don't think you could do, but I'm not gonna argue it. And then they go running out of the house. Sandy's there. She's back, baby. But first he does kind of like, I'm not afraid of a sphere, which I, to get, to get, to, to, th, to, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th, th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. Yeah, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, that ending you just have to get over your PTSD right right was it the PTSD all along no somebody took that kid I mean that can also give you PTSD sure so he had I think he was double-dipping sure but this was not all in his head no no no it was real yeah yeah and there's like a weird, incredibly happy ending. Unbelievably. Sandy just rolls up in a car and they all hug.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Yeah. And Norm's like standing, somehow he's next door again. And he's just standing there like, oh, shuck's we made it work. And the beautiful house is on fire. Oh, that's true. Yeah. Why is it on fire? Oh yeah, well, I mean it's a portal to hell anyway. Yeah. So. I forgot that he yells, you can't hurt me or my son.
Starting point is 00:46:49 And Ben's like, oh, I can. I know. Don't talk to me or my son ever again. And that's house. It's so rubbery. And there are no teenage Japanese girls losing their goddamn minds. No. Although it's a different kind of, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, you's thi, you's thi, you's thi, you's that's that's that's that, you that, you that, you that you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you that, you that, you that, you that, you that you that you that, you that, you that, you that, you that, you that's thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi-a, thi-a, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi-a no teenage Japanese girls losing their goddamn minds. No, although it's a different kind of delightful but still very delightful. Yeah still bonkers and delightful yeah. Should we rate it? I don't
Starting point is 00:47:13 sounds like we're going on the ratings phase. You want to go first? No. Okay I want you to go first. Okay I love this movie it's bananas it's stupid as hell. Yeah But it's like imminently watchable. Yeah it's it's it's th. I. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's really, I th. It's really, I's really, I th. I th. She's so dead-eyed, I just can't take it. I'm giving this name and a half. Nice. Delightful, absolute delight.
Starting point is 00:47:43 And I think this is like a, people love this movie. Oh yeah, a big cult film, for sure. There's four of them. Oh no, no, no, no. Oh, no, no, no. No, thank you. Well, then Cat comes back for the fourth. I'm never going to? No, he's not.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Could be ropey elsewhere. I mean, I'll probably watch him when we do them for this podcast when we run out of other movies, but. Yeah, this movie is so delightfully 80s. It's so beautifully, just like, do me a favor, go in with zero expectations. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. I mean, this is, this is, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, I'll tho, I'll tho, I'll tho, I'll tho, I'll, I'll, I I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, that, thoooooooooooooo''a, tha, that, that, that, I'll. Yeah. I mean this is this has given you mausoleum vibes. This is giving you like... They don't exist in the same universe as far as I'm concerned. For sure. There's demon titties in this movie they just didn't show up yet.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Yeah. It's got all the bonkersness you need of an 80s. With like people you're recognized from the TV in the 80s. Yeah. And like like. the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. the th. the th. the th. the th. they. th. th. th. the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. theee an to to to to theeeee an to to to theeeee an the an the an thee an the an the an the an like a little bit of social commentary on the horrors of war. Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which is nice. I like that. I always appreciate that about anything Fred Decker does has this like underlying like humanity to it. Yes.
Starting point is 00:48:57 Which I think is what makes this movie an eight. the solid eight for 80s. Yay, eight for 80s. Katie. Alan. I'd like to take you to a little place. I'd like to call actual mail bag. U.S. Postal Service bag. Do you want to open this?
Starting point is 00:49:15 No, you open it. I know what's in it. How do you know? Because they had to? This is from Studio Catawine. Okay. Oh my god I like these words.
