Oh I the entire bag of Swedish fish so I also feel like garbage. We really uh, we did a good job. So we saw it follows. Yeah we did. Can we before we get into it follows can we talk about the previews for movies that were before it follows because garbage. Other than the Mad Max movie which is probably fine. Yeah that's gonna be bad ass It's got my hunky, hunky Tom Hardy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Unfriended? The fuck. No. I actually was offered free tickets for like a sneak screening of that this week and I said no. It looks like if you had a joke in the trailer, and I said no. It looks like if you had a joke the they really put it out. The fat kid told a joke in the trailer? No, no no. Not the fat kid. No. I'm not the fat kid. No, I'm not the fat kid. No. I'm not the fat kid. I fucking hate the funny fat kid. Insidious three?
Starting point is 00:01:29 Still insidious. Still insidiously seeping its way into our lives. No, it looked at. Yeah. It's a th. th. the. the. the. the. the gopids a door to the dead and the ghost scatter. Waa! Isn't that movie that franchise, I guess? Those people just do franchises, right? Yeah, I think so. There's like a conjuring seven coming out. I just saw 114. Are they all the same people?
Starting point is 00:01:58 Or are you just saying, I don't know? I just lump just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just. to just. the the too. tooom. the same. It's N-U with Um-Lot and that's news. That's it. That's why I don't talk to people. No. And then finally, the Poultar Geist remake.
Starting point is 00:02:19 No. No, no, no and no. What? I don't remember there being a Zelda Rubenstein in that net trail? No, there wasn't. No, fuck that movie. No, fuck. And coach, no coach. No coach. No coach. I bet the parents don't even smoke weed. No.
Starting point is 00:02:34 No, not good. So the state of just sat through one. Yeah I like how you say sat through like we endured it. I was a little sleepy. Aw, tired guy. Pap-pat puts it goes in the dark theater. You're good to sleep. Weekday evening matinee. Good thing we paid less for the tickets and I spent all that money on candy.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I had to get home before Metlock. So it follows it it it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it follows it. I the th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm tho thi. I to tho th. I'm th. I'm th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was thi. I was thi. I was thi. I was thi. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm toda. I'm too. I'm today was a today was a today was a today was a thi. I was a we've just saw in the theater. It's true. I think it, I know you said that you have some theories on it. I do. Do you want to go first or do you want me to go first? No, go ahead. I think it's some Christian propaganda. It's a cautionary tale about teen sex. Really?
Starting point is 00:03:19 Yeah, it's like, oh, if you have sex, these bad things are going to happen to you, and the next thing you know, you're going to be fucking these dudes you don't even know on a boat, and there's going to be a naked man on your roof and all your life is going to go to hell. I don't necessarily believe this, but it's a little distressing that it was so like, this is what sex is Christian propaganda or just moralist propaganda. It's parts of it felt like one of those like, do you ever see that Christian YouTube video about the bear that stops kids from having sex? Nope. We'll link to it on Facebook. It is, it's pretty good. It felt a little like that. Okay, yeah, that's I didn't, I didn't get that from it at all. First thing I want to say about this movie is th. It th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I'll, thi, thi, thi, I th. th. th. th. th. th. Do, th. Do, do, do, do, do th. Do, do th. Do, do th. Do, do th. Do, do th. Do, do th. Do, do th. Do, th. Do, th. Do, th. Do, th. Do, th. Do, th. Do, th. Do, th. I thi, thi, thi, thi. thr. thr. thro. thro. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thee. to to to tho. the. th I want to say about this movie is that it feels very much like a film of a different, of like a bygone era of a different period.
Starting point is 00:04:09 It had a great throwback to the 80s feel like. Tube TV stacked on top of Tube TV? Right, except no cell phones. It had a weird, like, the first two movies that I thought of, borrowing from. I don't think anything was directly like it wasn't like a Rob zombie mash-up film. I felt like they were they were taking a lot of the sensibility of that suburban horror of Halloween. I thought there were a lot of Halloween influences which we can get into a bit more. Yeah. And then I also thought there was a lot of that suburban horror of blue velvet.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Okay. It had a very like I thought the acting was very like, like subdued David Lynch. Okay. It wasn't like as soap opery as David Lynch, but everybody was just kind of like. A lot of morose phases. Just really hanged dog. Yeah. A lot of sad saxos maybe. From, from the jump. Like, nothing had happened to anyone that, that's, that really struck a lynchian cord. Yeah, but yeah I agree certainly on the Halloween reference. I think the score which I'm sure we'll talk about a little more was had some
Starting point is 00:05:11 Halloween elements to it. Those stabbing notes. Yeah and the notion that like you can run but the bad guy will walk and it will still get you every time. Right. Which is sort of the Michael Myers strut, you know. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. the the the the notion. Yeah. Yeah. the notion. the notion. Yeah. the notion. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. the notion. the notion. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah... Yeah........................................................................................ I... I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I the. the. the bad guy will walk and it will still get you every time. Which is sort of the Michael Myers strut, you know? Yeah, that whole slasher thing of like no matter where you go in the woods, Jason Voorhees is behind the next tree. Yeah. But walking. Does Jason ever run? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:34 No. No. Did you ever see the acting out the way serial killers. He's trying to make a last girl. That's his whole thing as he wants to make, turn someone into a last girl. Okay. So he's like doing all the horror movie troops. And like, it shows him like working out really, what, like, doing like, thrown,
Starting point is 00:05:59 like, thrown here and then run around a building and be walking the other way from it. That's pretty great. And like all that stuff. So it's very much that, but with the antagonist constantly changing who it is and all that stuff and it follows, like adds an extra element of like, you're not just looking for the dude in the mask popping out behind the laundry. Well, I don't, not that I true really that I that I that I that I that I try that I that I that I try really that I that I tha tha that I truly believe that it's Christian propaganda, obviously, but tell me your theory. Okay, so I've talked to a few people, this is my second time saying the movie. And I've talked to a few people about this, and no one really agrees with me.
Starting point is 00:06:33 So this is another one of Alan's wacky theories. But I don't think it's the main theme of the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theme the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. theate. that I'm that I'm that I'm that I'm the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thee. the. theee. thee. theee. thee. this is the. the. the. the. the. the. going into adulthood. There's almost a Charlie Brown-esque lack of adults in this movie. There's no parental figures per se, except for the sort of edible sex death scene and alcoholic smoky mom. And then you don't even see teachers, you don't see, you know, in close up. I agree that it could be about sexually transmitted diseases. It could be about, like you say, it could have that moralist bent about sexually transmitted diseases, it could be about, like you say, it could have that like moralist bent about this is what happens when, you know, when girls give into their darker natures. Right, exactly. But it's also like I saw it as like, I saw it sort of tied in with Detroit and it's shot in Detroit and that city just crumbling
Starting point is 00:07:23 with no one supporting it. And these kids lives are sort of falling apart and there's no one they can go to to help them They all have to figure it out themselves Yeah, that's interesting because they do that monologue the girl does that monologue about eight mile right which I didn't even Real, they were in Detroit until that point. Yeah earlier you see one of the street scientists 12 mile, which is going into the ice cream shop. So that scene seems oddly placed unless there was some symbolism to it. Yeah, yeah, for sure. And then Eminem popped up and he was like, you got a roost one to the rife time. Opportunity knocks once in a rife time. That's what Eminem sounds like, isn't it? Opportunity knocks once in a rife time.
Starting point is 00:08:07 That's Marfa Marlboro. So I mean, I thought that had something to do with Detroit also. The three. Yes. My parents weren't absent, but they were on some level when I was growing up, be it emotionally or just because they couldn't be there, they were working or whatever. So I identified with growing up in the suburbs and just like, we had to fucking figure up how to do everything. Like, if something broke you had to jerry-rig it and try to make it work, and, you know, the way that they fight in the sort of climactic thagage, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the way, so I I I the way, so I I th.. So, I I I th.... So, I I I I I I I I I I thi, I I I I I thi, I thi, I I thi, I I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I'd, identified, identified, identified, identified, I'm, identified, identified, thr-a. throooooooooooooooo. theeeean, identified, tho. So, identified, thr-athing in the swimming pool. Yeah, that's like a total dumb kid thing to think what happened I did not understand what what were they trying to do?
Starting point is 00:08:49 What were they setting up? Oh, they wanted to electrocute it in the swimming pool? With her in it? I think that it was that she could get out and then they start electric? Well good thing she was in like the middle. the middle. the middle. the middle. the middle. the middle. the middle. the middle. the middle. they's they's they's they's they's they're they're they're they're not. they're not. they're not. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're try. I. I. I. I'm try. I'm like. I'm like. I'm like. I'm. I try. I they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're then the pool seems to have some sort of symbolism too, because she's always in her backyard pool and then at one point, there's just a quick shot of it and it's destroyed. Why? Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:15 There's a lot of things. Why are they only watching movies was like there was no new media. There was no... I could figure out like when the movie was supposed to be placed because even the cars are old. The only thing that seems like really super modern and it was like the mini Kindle sort of thing that. Yeah. Yeah. Which I've never even seen in my life. Is that a thing? Is that a a real thing? Maybe? It almost had like a futuristic. Yeah. It's almost like. It almost like. It almost like. It almost like. It almost like. It almost like. It almost like. It was like. It almost like. It was like. It was like. It was like. It almost like. It was like. It was like. It was like a futuristic. It was like a futuristic. It almost like a futuristic. It was like a futuristic. It was like a futuristic. It was like like a futuristic. It almost like like a futuristic. It was like a futuristic. It was like a futuristic. It was like a f. It was like a f. It was like a f. It was like a f. It was like a futuristic. It was like like. It was like. It was like like. It was like. It was like. It was like a futuristic. It was like. It was like. It was like. It was like. It was like. It's like a futuristic. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like, it. It's like, it. It's like, it. It's like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, it. It's like, like, it. It like taking this movie out of like a time. Yeah Yeah, their fashion was like just like really hodge pod like they all just like ran through a thrift store and grabbed whatever they could and that's interesting too because you can't It wasn't like oh, that's the punk. That's the preppy. You know, you know, they're just like everyone was kind of the same level. Yeah, they're just like. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. the th. the th. the the the the the the th. the the the the the the the the th. the th. the the the the the th. th. the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. th. their th. their fashion. th. th. the. the really and like all the set design was very like like you said like the tube television and the couches are all like the sort of old orange and brown knit sofas and yeah everything was just sort of it had no time period under it it was almost yeah I don't understand it I don't understand that. There's a lot of things I honestly th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. the th. the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. theat. theat. theat. theat. theat. theat. the. the. the. the. th. th. time period. It was almost, yeah, I don't know, I don't understand it. I don't understand that. There's a lot of things I honestly don't quite understand about this movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:27 Quick plot summary. We're following, the main character is Jay, and we're following her as she goes on a date with this guy and has, goes on a couple dates and has sexual intercourses with him, and then wakes up in a, after he chloroforms her, wakes up in a wheelchair and is told that she's been cursed, and she has to pass it on by having sex. And then the rest of the movie is her. And then if she dies, it'll come after him. Right. So you can pass it along, but if the line who have been infected or have been cursed can see the thing that's chasing them and it's just some random person walking towards you and if they tou they'll kill you.
Starting point is 00:11:10 Which is not entirely true? No? Because well it picks up her hair at one point and it knocks Paul out of the way. Right, right, right. And it grabs her foot and she doesn't die any of those times. Well I guess it has to like fully like thua. th. th. thuu. th. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu thu thu thu that that that that that that that that that the th that that they that the th th th th th they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they that that that that that that that that to to to to to tou tou. tou. And tou. And tou tou. And tou. And tou tou. And tou. And tou. And if tou. And if the an then probably like Robert's genitals on you like Greg's mom which was upsetting so yeah we follow her and her four friends as they try and rid her of this curse yeah through means of having sex with random people and yeah I I don't know if it's it's I don't think it's about venereal diseases diseases because there's no venereal disease that you can get rid of by fucking somebody else. Oh man, but what if you could? Yeah, I can see it as a cautionary sort of tale of what not to do. But it's also, I don't know, I'm, like I said,
Starting point is 00:11:58 I've really latched onto this idea of like the climbing into adulthood. And sort of that, I think in most in th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I thi, I'm, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, I thi, thi, thi, I thi, I thi, I thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thi, thii, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii., thi. thi, thi, thi, th sort of that, I think in most kids' lives, like, you know, that first sexual encounter that you have when you're young sort of takes you outside of your parents' purview. Like, they're not gonna condone you doing that. It's so far outside of what you should be doing. And you're sort of, you've started forging your own path for real now in a tho. Well you were reading stuff online? There's, I mean, people on the internet think things that are not true.
Starting point is 00:12:28 One person suggested that it, in finger quotes, is Yara, she was behind the whole thing. Wait, who's Yarr? The girl with them also. She was reading Dostoevsky. Which, their theory just made no sense, but I did want to say, do you remember in the Fright Night episode when you said that you wish you were Charlie Brewster but you realized you were actually just evil head? Yeah, yeah. I feel like I wish I was a J. But I mean, she's a comic relief. She's also the most honestly
Starting point is 00:13:01 human out of all of them I felt. She also doesn't really serve a purpose in the movie. Like, she doesn't come up with any ideas. She's really just there for comic relief unless she is in fact it, in which case, I don't fucking know. She said, but she's dropping a, she's dropping mad dust-asky quotes on people. Yeah. And I was trying to figure out what the significance of the idiot was, but it doesn't, I mean, is maybe it just the sort of the specter of death that looms over us all and we're all just like sort of ducking it until... Yeah, I think on some level it is because it's always going to be chasing you, death is always slowly walking towards you. But you can get rid of it by fucking someone. Right, or you can just drive real fast and get away from it for a while. Yeah. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their their their their their th. th. thi. thi and thi and thi. thi and thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi and thi and thi. thi. thi. thi and thi and thi and thi and thi and thi and thi and thi and thi and their thi and their thi thi th. It's their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi. thi. I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thuui. theeeeeeeeeeean. thuuui. thui. thui. thuui.. So I don't know, there's some holes in all these theories. Yeah, I mean I think
Starting point is 00:13:49 there's there's also holes in this logic of the film. Well, yeah. Like why does Jay have sex with Paul at the end? Is it to, is she still thinks she's infected? Is she giving it to him? Are they trying to share? their their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. T. I's. I. I. There. I. There. I. There. There. I. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. I. There. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm. I'm. I'm. So. I'm. I'm. So. I'm. I'm. the. there. there. I'm. there. there. there. I'm. there. I'm a third person around them all the time to tell them if like the person walking towards them was the mailman or a bad guy. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. If you're both infected. Well didn't you're letting your defenses down. Wasn't the implication that Paul took it and went to the prostitutes? Starting point is 00:15:05 Are you sure? Yeah, yeah. Are you sure? Yeah. I'm 100%? I would say 100%. I'm a hundo on that. I'm a hondo on that.
Starting point is 00:15:12 I'm sure it could be googled. that's, that was that. And it was a lot of P. Yeah, all over that tube sock. Yeah, single tube sock with a boob out. A lot of boobs in this movie, but none of them like, ooh, tidies. You're always like, oh, blah, put them away. Not a good tiddy. You know what I mean? It's a bad tiddy. It's not enjoyable. Right. Other than her first coupling with Hugh, like seemingly none of the sex is
Starting point is 00:15:45 enjoyable that's had this movie. No. No, no. No, no. No, no. No, no. He's like a weasly Johnny Depp. And when she's he's fucking... Greg, wreaths. Greg, who is like the heartthrobin's movie? Not a cute, not a cute. toy? Oh, he's like a little Johnny D'none. He's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like he's like a whe's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's like a we's. He's like a we's like a wea. He's like a we's like a we's like a wea. He's got that like a sheepskin vest on. As soon as as they showed him in that cut-off gene vest, I was like never trust a person wearing a cut-off gene vest. Oh man, I have a lot of friends who wear those Jones. Do you trust them? Yeah, you shouldn't. He'll take your wallet. Take that heavy metal community. See, this is, that's part of the Christian propaganda. Heavy metal is taking your money. I don't know. And the Dungeons and Dragons?
Starting point is 00:16:30 Yeah, make you into Satanists. Did this movie put you in like a bit of a dower mood? Like, is it a bit of a downer? Well, I can't decide if that's the three pounds of beef jerky or the actual movie. But it ended and I was kind of like, well, wait, you know how I feel about sort of ambiguous endings. Or the guy walking at them down the street? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:53 And they don't know either because they had to go and go to the bone zone. Which frustrates me because I feel that that was a stupid decision. She didn't seem happy with it. like when she's holding hands with Paul there, she's constantly opening her hand. I don't know if that's because he was holding her cast hand. He must hold her cast hand. Get on the other side. Oh, the cast probably smelled so fucking bad.
Starting point is 00:17:14 Presumably they recast it when after they were in the hospital for the, because they shot the girl in the leg. Yeah, where where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. the. the. Yeah, I don't know, the bullet just jumped into her leg. It was laying on the table, sir. Funk, right into, right into a calf. We're playing cornhole, I hit the bullet. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. But yeah, I mean, again, you know, the complete lack of a today. I'm not, I don't know. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. to. to. the. to. to. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. mean, I guess you see police, oh, that's interesting, now you say that about, because when we see the police interviewing her after Hugh has like dropped around the lawn,
Starting point is 00:17:50 it's just like, you don't see it. Yeah, you don't see him. It's just a, yeah, andob, blah, draw the brown style. I don't know if she even really has any lines. Except when she's on the phone at the beginning with her back to. There's the scene where she's telling the neighbor about what happened to Jay. Oh, right, right. And she's drinking, like,
Starting point is 00:18:13 like, bailess into her coffee. Oh, yeah, that's right. Let me tell you what I think. I don't know, a lot of people have just told me you're going to love this movie, you're going to love it, love it, love it, love it, love it, love it, love it, love it, love it. Right. I didn't exactly love it. the hype machine. It's so hard, it's hard to be on that I wasn't sure if you dig that. Yeah. It's got some, I think it's got some really interesting things about it, having seen it twice.
Starting point is 00:18:49 I will say that I wasn't as blown away by the second time. Really? Yeah. And I had expected it to be so scary. And there were scenes that were pretty. Yeah, I think well I don't like it when you show things so like I felt like that was just like... You're talking about the scene where he follows the follows her into the bedroom? Yeah yeah because he
Starting point is 00:19:15 stops behind her like what he stops behind herto throw a sheet over them and like hit it with a chair, so it's a physical presence. They can't go through her. Right. And she's comes in the doorway and stops. But it could have pushed her. Obviously, it pushes Paul. It's like. Yeah. But it only pushes Paul because, the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the. the th. th. th. they's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they's. th. they. th. th. th. they's. they's. th. the. the. the. the. theateat. theat. they's they're theateateate. the dad's just holding an arm out to him, not actually touching him. Yeah. Okay, so did they shoot,
Starting point is 00:19:49 did they kill it in the pool? Why do the pool fill with blood? And it was it blood or was it something? What else going to be? I don't know? I don't know, demonic presence. I feel like that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should that should. I that should. I feel like that should. I that should. I that should. I that should. I that should that should that should that should. I. I that should that should that should that should. We need to distinguish it from blood. Yeah. No, I'm sort of left, it's not an uplifting film for sure. Well, no. But then again, what on this podcast is, other than last week's the pit? Or grabbers or? Yeah, grabbers was uplifting.
Starting point is 00:20:14 The pit was not uplifting at all. The pit was fucking depressing. I went home and showed in an extremely hot shower with bleach. I'm going to need to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the need to turn on the Silkwood shower now just like this happened. But I do like that it's a film that like I love a movie that I can really ruminate on like going back to the kill list episode where I can like just fill in all the gaps and all that and I feel like this is such a movie. Well yeah and I do feel that this has more sense to me than the kill list because this doesn't th doesn't th doesn't th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. thus th. thus thus thus thus thus thus the the. the thus thus the. the. the. I the the the the the the the the the. I theeeeeeeeeeeeean that that that that that that theeeeeeeeeeeee. I that that that the that that the than kill list. Because this doesn't take like a crazy turn at the end where you're like well that came the fuck out of left field it's like just a concept that you're not quite sure what the concept is and I feel like I
Starting point is 00:20:51 can tolerate that a lot more than just being like now it's this you know what I mean? Like was the girl at the beginning the girl who gave the girl who gave the curse the curse the curse the curse the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the te tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea the the the the the the c. the c. the c. the c. the c. the c. the c. that setting up that the curse will kill you no matter what. Like there's all these like what ifs and what does and or did he give it to that girl and then she died and it came back to him and that's how he knew. Because like, because Jay. I wonder if she was the girl in the picture with the letterman jacket. Maybe. That'd be an interesting thing to look up. from Hugh. He's like, okay, it can see you, sometimes it's people you know, sometimes it's strangers, and like no one else can see it, and then if the person you give it to dies, it comes back to you. Like, how does he know all that if you got
Starting point is 00:21:30 it from a, who had a one-night stand with and a bar? Yeah, he's got like a weird sales pitch for it. Yeah, so he must have been a while, I don't know. And, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and the that, and the the the the the the the person, and the the the person, and the the the person, and the the the person, the person, and the person, and the person, the the person, and the person, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and the cute, like I feel like Jay could have done better. You know, I don't know. Yeah, that's like all the women in this movie are really beautiful. Yeah, the dudes are all weird looking. I do think it's interesting that everything in this movie seems like it could be an allusion to something or just a reference to something and like, you knowthere there were like driving scenes where I was like oh is he like referencing this or that like there's all these like different things that like everybody I've talked to about it has had where I said Halloween and blue velvet like
Starting point is 00:22:14 everyone's had like two or three moves they're like oh I think they're doing this and this and this and thing from it. And even with the score, I kept expecting like, witch, which? Like from Cypheria. It's got that at times bridging the carpenter and goblin. Yeah. Yeah, the score was pretty fucking fan. Like, the first time I saw it was like, oh, I want the score. I want to jam this score this is really great. Also, I hadn't seen a movie in a regular movie theater
Starting point is 00:22:46 in a really long time. Because I'm just like so artsy and so hip and so cool. I really only see like movies at filmmakers. But going to like a large, you know, we were at the multi movie, plex, plex, flex, and I tried to convincetime than it was when I saw it. Oh really? So it may have been a fault of the theater.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Also, they turned the lights on before the movie ended. Did you notice that? Famed me, man. Sorry, it's a Thursday afternoon matinee, dickholes. So you're just trying to go. But I actually thought that the I was happy with the volume like I thought that the And maybe because I'm you know deaf 20 years ago in a punk shows it made me almost completely deaf But I feel like the score really benefited from that kind of volume like yes because the silences Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I can I can you've sighed so many times they did during kill list and that's I mean this? I? I enjoyed this more than this. I? I, I, I, I, I, I this. I this. I this. I this. I this. I this. I this. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. Not as many times as I did during Kill List. And that's, I mean, this...
Starting point is 00:23:48 I enjoyed this more than Kill List, for sure. This will get a rating. Oh, that's right, I didn't even rate Kill List. Well, it just blew my mind and there was nothing, I don't know. Who made this movie? David, Robert Mitchell. Three first names? Little Sally, Jesse Raphael. Yeah. Has he done other things? He did a short film called The Virgin in 2002.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Sounds like he's got some sexy things happening here. 2010, Myth of the American Sleepover. See, OK. And then it follows. And then he did the passion of the Christ because he is doing Christian propaganda. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. But I mean all of those probably share one common denominator, which is like semi-virginal girls, I bet, without having looked at them at all. The myth of the American Sleepover is an American comic of age film, which would fit into my theory
Starting point is 00:24:42 that follows four young people as they navigate through suburban Detroit in search of love and adventure on last weekend of summer vacation. Wow, you should have really said that that was the plot of this movie. How it follows. Summer vacation. The kids were also seemingly ageless within their age category because I thought they were in high school, was a community college? When then, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th and th.. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. th. they within their age category because... Were they in? Because I thought they were in high school, was a community college? Right. And then she said we had sex back in high school, it was no big deal. Well, it seemed to me that you were still in high school because there was
Starting point is 00:25:11 hallways and lockers, which community college doesn't really have. Yeah, she got up out of class and the teacher professor or whatever was trying to stop. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. they. they. they. they. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they they they they they they they they they they they th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they th. they they they they they they they they th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. theeeee. theeeee. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the. they the. true. That kind of ambiguity doesn't bother me at all. That felt very like, this could happen to you, except that like, you know... It couldn't. Well, I'm the virgin, so... But it did have a, you know, I go back to this a lot, but I felt like it did have a dream-like quality for that. Like, the fact that like, everything was sort of hodgepodgy. Everything from their clothing down to their ages seems like kind of amorphous and it could shift and it was moving and why did when they want to feel safe they went back to the pool that they had made out at. And that they'd also apparently gotten drunk and barfed at and like... Right, so they had these like childhood memories. Yeah. Getting drunk and barfing is hardly the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thing, thing, thing, thing is thing, thing, thing, thing, thing, thing, thing, thing, thi thi thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thoom-a, tho, tho, tho, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi. And, thi. And, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi. And, thi. And, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. And, thi. And, barfing is hardly a childhood memory. And when Jay runs the first time from the house, she runs to the playground.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Which she made a lot of poor choices. Sure. Like falling asleep on the hood of her car in the woods? Why would you do that? Yeah. When there's this things talking about it. Right, oh yeah, she bought some time. That was sort of an odd mechanic, I thought, of like, it can only travel by foot? But seemingly just like, it just kind of pops out of walls too. Like, when she was at school and the woman in the hospital Johnny comes walking at her,
Starting point is 00:26:35 like, just sort of walked out of a wall and started walking. Oh, right, it comes across the quad. But then maybe through the room or something. And there's the girl that when they go to that high school to find out where Hugh, who Hugh actually is, it's really hard to say Hugh. There's that girl walking and she's just just like walk out of a wall and starts walking towards them. Wait, which girl? It's like she doesn't actually get to anything. theyre's times. There's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to to to the to the to the the th. the th. the th. It's, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's really. It's really. It's, it's to say. It's, it. It's to say. It's to say. It's to say. It's to say. It's really. It's really. It's really. It's really. It's really. It's really. It's really. It's really. It's really the the the the the the the the the th th the th the the. to to to to to to to to to to say, to thowards them that like Jay registers but doesn't do anything about. But they
Starting point is 00:27:06 might just be people too because they're sitting there with Hugh and he's like, does anybody else do that girl like the girl in the soccer you'd form and they're like yeah. Yeah they might be but that's sort of that's the fun of it I think yeah totally. I think you know as far as urban legends go it's a terrifying one, like the idea that you're not safe anywhere because someone is always walking towards you. That's upsetting. Yeah, it's a bummer. I mean it's going into crowds a real big bummer.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Just don't go to the bone zone, I guess. Have you watched The Guest? The Guest. Myka Munro, I think that's a way you pronounce her name, the woman Jay, from from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, from, th, th, the, th, th, th, th, the the th, the th, the the the the the th, the th, the the, th, th, that's, the, the, th, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it, it's, it, it's, it's, it, it's, it's, it's, it, it's, it's, it's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thin, the the the the the the the.e. the the. the thi, the the. the the thi, the thi, the the this movie stars in that as well. I think the guest is fantastic. It's a movie about a family who's lost a son in Iraq or Afghanistan. And this guy comes to the house and says, hey, I was a friend of your son. I just wanted to tell you that he really loved you. And they invite him into their home. And then fucking chaos ensues when it turns out that he's a super soldier that that that that that that that that s to Halloween 3 in it, and there's all these like, Season of the Witch?
Starting point is 00:28:08 That's so bad. Are you kidding me? Hey, it's my favorite Halloween movie. You have to be fucking kidding. No, I love it to death. With that song, the, oh, what is the song? It's so bad. It's so bad. It's so bad. I know, but it's fucking fantastic. It's not my favorite Halloween movie. No, you just said it was and now it's on tape and now you have to say it forever. But I love it.
Starting point is 00:28:29 It's definitely my second favorite Halloween movie. After the first one? Yeah, well, the second one is, stole one of the stones from Stonehenge and got it to Southern California. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. What implausibilities in that. That's why it's so wonderful.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Superchamara. You know I love ridiculous shit. I do. So, I've got some nod to that feels like it could have like it could have been a double feature with a Terminator like it's just so fucking. I've never seen the Terminator. You're gonna talk shit on Halloween 3 and that's all you've never seen the Terminator. Yeah. But no you you understand the relevance of the sure totally ridiculous sci-fi action movie and it's great it's got Lieutenant Daniels from the wire and it's fucking the wire. I've toye. I've toye. I've toye. I've tthe wire in it. It's fucking fantastic. I've never seen the wire. God damn it, Katie. Listen, I only have time for horror movies and sports.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Like, I only have so much time. Let's go buckos. Do you want to plug your sports blog? Oh yeah. It's a win it for us. the today's a blog. I know there's not a lot of crossover between horror and sports, but... Sports! Sports! Speedy of Sports, did you know that Micah Monroe, as well as being an American actress, is also a professional kiteboarder.
Starting point is 00:29:51 I don't know what kiteboarding is? It sounds like it would be on the Mountain Dew Taco Bell extreme sports show. I think that's called diarrhea. Oh no. Oh, no. Yeah, but yeah, I would highly recommend the guest as well. Now that I'm recommending things, let's go into the ratings phase. Yeah. What are you?
Starting point is 00:30:11 I'm ready to rate? Would you like me to rate first? Or would you like to rate first? You seem very excited about rating. I'm going to give this movie a seven. the second time I was into it the second, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, to, to, to, to, to, to, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to thi, to go, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th.... th, th.... th... th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thi, thi, to to to to to thi. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to the thi, the thi, th into it the second time, I think the second time I was going at it with a more critical eye. Yeah, you knew we were gonna. Definitely the first time I watched it, I just thought it was fun. It was just like, oh, that was fun.
Starting point is 00:30:30 That was like a fun horror movie. Like, it was like a fun movie, like that. Oh my god, what they're they. the, or, or, or, or, or, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. It, I, I, I, I, I, I was, I, I was, I was, I was, I was, I just, I was, I was, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I, I, I just, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I was, I was, th..... It, th. It, th. It was, th. It was, th. It was, th. It was, was, like, like, like, th... It was, like, was just, like, was, like, was just, like, was, like, was just, like, like, was just, like, it was just, it was just, it was, it on an urban legend. Like this actually like created its own urban legend and then ran with it. And I really, I really like that. But it felt like, I read a review somewhere that said like, this urban legend feels like it's something you've always known. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:52 And it kind of has that like, like, hookman, e'erbiz. say people should check this movie out. I don't think it's the B's knees, I don't think it's like the best horror movie ever, it's not the scariest movie, but it's well worth your time then for nothing else the soundtrack is phenomenal. Yeah, I would definitely see it again. I kind of want to see it again just to see it again. I think I'm going to see your seven and I'm going to raise seven and I think I'm going to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their the the their their their their their their the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. try. try. try. try. time. try. time. try. try. try. try. th. th. th. th. th. th, I'm going to also give this a seven. I would definitely see it again. I do think for me it suffered a bit from the hype machine because everybody in my life has told me I need to see this movie and I'll love it. I liked it a lot and I'm glad it wasn't insidious three.
Starting point is 00:31:36 But, you know, you just set your expectations so high. Right. And I don't know that there's any way not to. Like once everyone's telling you you're going to love it and like, it's the best movie I've seen this year and all that stuff. It's so scariest movie I've ever seen. Like, scariot than the Shining, like, scurrier than the Shining to me. Yeah, I hate that and Clearwater revisited. This is a terrible analogy. Also Urban Legend 1996 or 1994 or whatever. Not a bad film. Jared Leto is like real vacant in it. Terriereed has these huge tits. Has these huge these huge... Like she doesn't want a leash. She practically does.
Starting point is 00:32:28 It's not bad. It could be worse. We're doing confessions and full disclosures. Yeah. I don't mind the first insidious movie. I minded it. Okay. Well, it was there were a lot of good moments in it,
Starting point is 00:32:40 but the plot like I forget what they call the place where the guy has to go to find his son. It's like the no-no zone. Yeah I was like done out, out I mean yeah. I was fine with that movie until then you won't get this reference but until Darth Mall shows up like I know what that means. The guy with the black and red face yeah really it was just it just got pretty boring yeah yeah but but there was some good stuff at it like I mean like pin-up girls with shotguns. Nope that wasn't one of them. Yeah I mean well here's something I can compare it to it follows. It follows look gritty. It looked like it looked like it was shot on 35 millimeter film like and those movies all look like hi this movie was made in Photoshop enjoy it like everything so crisp and yeah like when I when I saw that Annabelle movie
Starting point is 00:33:26 and it fucking made me want to throw up because it looks so clean. It was just like. Oh, you just hate cleanliness. Ah, Godliness is godliness. God is dead. I want a dirty horror movie. I want it to be filthy and just like a dirty horror movie.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Yeah, not a dirty horror movie. Well, this was a dirty horror movie. Knights of the Erotic Day Horror. Because everybody just has dirty sex. Just like last week with Jamie in his dirty mind. Oh, fuck. I like our sex double feature here. Do that teddy bear and whack the shit out of it for this movie. Oh my god. Yeah, jerk it's so hard to jerk it to? Everything, go on. Oh, so you're going to jerk it. There's the scene where they go into Hughes' house, and they're sitting on the bed that's just surrounded by pornoes and tissues?
Starting point is 00:34:09 What the fuck? But also, the pornoes were like, um, but they were like also ageless. It was kind of like, you couldn't tell era. old-fashioned-ish. And then there was a lot of weird like fetish bondage stuff. Was Hugh Jamie all grown up? Oh God. Yeah, I just like, they just sat down in that fucking come-riddle bed. Yeah, like, get up.
Starting point is 00:34:36 Just a matchers on the floor. I guess. There's just a bunch of dream catchers laying all over the floor. That's disgusting. Yeah, totally see it. I. I. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. there. they. there. they. they. they. there's. they. they. they. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's just. the there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. there's. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. the. the. the th. the. the. the. the the. the floor. That's disgusting. Yeah, those kids are narly. All right. So go see this movie. Yeah, totally see it. I mean, when you compare it to what your other choices are, such as unfriended. And Poltergeist? Oh, that like really bumps me out. I'm not a fan of remakes in general, though I will go see Mad Max. Yeah. But yeah, why would you fuck with Poltergeist? Like that movie is so... We should do Poltergeist at some point. And it's cursed. I hope that all these people who are in this movie don't die. RIP Sam Rockwell.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Why would you curse the shitty movie? No, they're cursed the good one. Yeah, maybe. So... Coach lived. He's still alive, right? They're they're the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the coach TV show. No, they're not yeah, they are that I'll probably watch So I just had liketo agree to disagree.
Starting point is 00:35:47 With your Christian propaganda movie it follows. So what are we doing next week? Next week we're going back in time a little bit to 1973, Katie. We're going to watch the Brian De Palma Classic, which is now on Criterion Sisters. If you've got the Amazon Prime, all the criterion movies are on there. It's a movie that I've been I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to to to to to to the the. to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the. the, the, the, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thean, thean, thean, thean, tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooeananananananananananed. It, got the Amazon Prime, all the criterion movies are on there. It's a movie that I've been meaning to see for a while. It's like it seems pretty well regarded but not too well known. No, you've never seen it. So I'm interested to see it. It's got Margotter's in it. Oh, I love Mar Oh, weird. Yeah. Okay.
