Yeah, I had, the whole time I was watching it, I felt like I was watching Hitchcock through the lens of those like 70s film auteur's like very copola, very, very squircessy or something like that, or squazzy, or however the fuck you say that dude's name It like I maybe think of like dog day afternoon in the conversation And movies like that sisters is a story of like all kinds of weird shit I would say Yeah, generally speaking it felt like a very familiar story though like I've seen this sort of thing it felt almost like I don't know Shakespearean or something. Okay, so Margot Kidder, whom I love. Okay, I just need to, okay, I need to just say this. Margo Kidder's Canadian. Yeah. Yeah. She's not French. Oh no. No. No. No. No. For like, so the first several scenes of this movie, I would say the first like four scenes are basically the first half of the movie. Like each scene is so long, and it takes place almost entirely in this apartment.

I thought that she was like luring this guy in, because she was not French, because that accent was so bad. Yeah. It was going to be revealed that like she and her ex-husband, this guy was playing her ex-husband in this con that she was running, were like luring men using, like, thrown, and thenthey would, I don't know, murder them or feed them to her twin or something like that. I was like, oh, I see where this movie's going. No, that accent she did for the entire movie.

Have you ever seen Gosford Park? No, I don't think so. Delaware's own Ryan Philippe is in that movie. I love him. And he's sorry, horror, the beginning of the movie and it's fucking abysmal. But it turns out he's doing an accent. Right. And that's a put-on.

That's what I totally thought was happening. Yeah. Because it was just like, she was like making a weird duck face while she looks like she was making fun of French Canadians. Yeah. I'm just slathered. I was like, this woman is not a model, she's not French, and she's going to have him murdered. Yeah. Which, eh, it kind of happens, but not in the way that I thought at all, just because of that really bad accent. I really like the way this film opened though. Let's, like, it opens on a reality game show. Yeah, at first I thought I was watching the wrong video on YouTube. Yeah, I mean, honestly, I do too. And the game show, it's like a candid camera, but like with this weird sexual overtone to it, it was real gross. And then shown in front of a live studio audience? Of just seemingly just octaenary. want to watch voyeurism I guess. And the prize that they win is cutlery and a trip to the African room? Did it for doing the African room? Because aspiring models love cutlery and black people love the African room? Like, this movie opened and I was like, the fuck is going to be like,

with that opening I was like, oh, this is going to be like some weird, dark comedy film. In the show peeping Tom, Margot Kidder is playing a blind woman that walks into a changing room that doesn't have a wall. And trip to the African room. For two. For two. Which she then hones in on. Yeah, she's like, can you take me to the African room? Okay.

So they hit it off and she takes him back to her apartment. And you're still, at still at this point I'm thinking this is a con, she's gonna murder. Right, right. It's not. They just, just fuck. And the guy whose name I cannot remember, Philip maybe? Yeah. Philip is like, no, this man's bothering us.

You leave her alone. And then they like. He just calls the waiter over in the new case. The waiter's just wearing a suit jacket. No shirt and a bow tie. It was a good look. It was a great look. I want to go to drive away and I'll park the car and then I'll walk back in

and come through the back. And I was like, this is all part of the con. It's like drawing him in. Right. Nope. We should mention at this point that her husband or ex-husband as the thuase thinne is played by William Finley, Very upsetting looking. I was like, who is that fish face? Oh, fuck, it's the phantom. Here's a question. Did you have a hunch through the entire movie?

Or just at that one point? I don't know. I feel like it was like her accent. It was coming and going through the movie. I like, it was literally that scene from young Frankenstein. Where you're like, youthey go to the aforementioned, She like scratches the shit out of him. Yeah, yeah, she realizes in the morning. Right, right, right, right, right.

When he realizes it's her birthday, so he goes out to the local corner store to pick her up a birthday cake. But he's already heard her talking to her twin, because he gets the twin conversation that we see oh we're going to be doing spoilers by the way oh yeah watch this movie I guess 25 minutes in we're doing spoilers we see her having this conversation with her twin or someone we don't know who she's having a conversation with it's off camera at this time but there's two shadows oh really I didn't there was two shadows weird yeah yeah that doesn't the no it doesn't th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho the the the the the the the the the tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo they. the the't get that. There was two shadows. Weird. Yeah. That doesn't make sense. No, it doesn't. Especially when you get, okay, well. So he goes to the store. He picks her up the this, the aforementioned birthday cake and gets her, her and her sister's name

on it, Danielle and Dominique. So they come, he comes back and he presents her the birthday cake with the candles on it while she's lying in bed and a huge fucking butcher's knife. Yeah. I was like this is how you cut a cake. This is just a bad idea what if she's like she wakes up violently from sleeping she's gonna stab everyone and set the house on fire. He did take it from the cutler he said that she won. He did. I don't know I wanted couch with a blanket pulled over her head and he's like, hey, hey, hey. Yeah, she looks like she came home from a hard night and just passed out. She looks terrible. Yeah, so she wakes up.

She takes the butcher's knife from the cake and just start to stabbing the shit out of it. Right in the paper. Not in his eyeball. No, no, his other paper paper. She peper. She. She. She. She. She. Not funny. So he crawls over it I love the split screen. Yeah it's really good. Which he uses again in like Carrie and what else have I seen then he whatever it doesn't matter. I don't know if it was like maybe I need to rewatch some of those movies but this is just used so effectively like totally like just built attention and was really interesting that yeah okay so the split screen is the gentleman caller putting his hand up towards the window and then the other side of the screen is a neighbor across the way who is watching this all happen through the window.

So she calls the police and we find out that she is a local journalist who has written a number of articles about police brutality, one of which is called why we call them pigs. Which I lulled. There was like an internet rumor two or three years ago that Shaggy had been stabbed to death in a nightclub and I was like legitimately heartbroken. And then like two days later Shaggy was like it wasn't me. Which literally happened. Papap had to watch this movie thea because he kept falling asleep during the first time. I doze a little bit. So you might need to film me in on like one scene, which I think may have been crucial to the plot. Yeah, I tried watching this movie like at 11 o'clock at night and it just, yeah, I can't hang on. Yeah, I'm an old man. So she sees him right, she's a tick, And immediately calls the cops. It's so good. This is why we call the pigs, honestly.

She's also a dick, though. She's a dick. But in that moment, she's really just being like, you need to go up there and look. Yeah, it really is. So they go to finally go up to this apartment after much arguing. But in the meantime, Danielle's ex-husband, the phantom, has shown up and like basically like picks her up and moves her, which I thought was weird and then scrubs the apartment clean. Yeah, he's their cleaner. Yeah. Which made me th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thee. the. the. the. the. the the the the the. the the the thi. the apartment clean. Which made me think that this has happened before. Oh, probably. You know, because he was on point. He was efficient. And what they do is they put Philip's body on a pullout couch and fold it up. Which my brother did to me once when I was a child, horror podcast right now. Thanks. Did he sit on it too? Yeah, you put the cushions on and flop down on it. I'm terribly claustrophobic.

Anyway, so by the time they finish having this argument about whether or not to go up to this apartment and police brutality, et cetera, it's all been cleaned up. And the husband, ex-husband is gone. Whole time, split screen. One side is her like fucking with the cops and the other side is him cleaning up. And it's so good at like, it's just, you're like, go, go, go, hurry, go. Yeah, to both of them. It was this beautiful like cat and mouse thing

that was going on that was really, like, I just couldn't believe like, the turn that this movie took. And this might be a good the good the and he was in semi-retirement at this point and they got him to come out and score this. And the score is phenomenal. It's really good. It's like, Missy was in the other room while I was watching this and she was just like, oh, I can't handle this music. Like it was just so cacophonous. When the murder was happening and then just so elaborate and beautiful.

So the scoring with the split screen was just, oh it was so good. Yeah, it really was. So they get it all cleaned up. All right, the phantom, Emil, the husband gets it all cleaned up or ex-husband, whatever he is. A meal sneaks out of the apartment at the, are coming in and it's really cool really effective and they come to the door and Margot Kitter you've also seen that Margot Kitter has been making herself up this whole time. Oh yeah yeah yeah she's all cleaned up and curled and brimped. Yeah. And so basically they like search her apartment right with a civilian also searching her apartment being the new sleep lady like I've seen a lot of episodes of law in order. That's why they don't let him talk? Because no one likes to hear that word properly pronounced. So in this whole sequence of searching the apartment, the newspaper lady kind of breaks away from the cops and opens the refrigerator and finds the cake. It says, happy birthday, Danielle and D'Aneil and finds the cake. that says, happy. Daniels, and I'm going to the birthday. Right.

Which led me to believe that cake. Wa, the ta. the husband, the thi waste cake? She was gonna eat that cake later. She was like, fuck yeah, I mean like I'm not gonna waste it. She was, yeah, she wasn't put together like Danielle, she was wild looking and I thought Margotta did a really good job of like showing the difference between the two. Margotta can do a lot of things well. Yeah, right, right. She also does a great drunk lady, which I really like. Fucking Superman's girlfriend. Yeah, that's true.

And she's Barf in Black Christmas. Her name is Barb, but in her first line, she's like, I'm Barf. And I was like, did you say barf? She's so good in that though. She's like, yeah. That movie's great. We should do that. She does a really good job of differentiating between the two sides of her personality or

two twins or whatever it might be. Spoiler alert. Well, no, no, it's true. I mean, what else are hidden in the film. Like you never thought that. The only thing I thought, because they showed that she has like a large scar from the separation on her side, I thought it might have been like a cool like aliens thing where like maybe the twin emerged from the scar but that was put to rest pretty quickly. There's a lot of good Pratt falls in this movie. Yeah, that's why I thought like some of it was meant to be like, I laughed. him get that burn. Oh really? And so later I was like why does he? Because the first time I noticed the hump was when I also noticed the thing on his forehead and I was like what happened to him? Is this the same man? Have you ever fallen on linoleum? No. It hurts like a mother. It'll just take it takes the skin off. So it basically, it's, um, it very much follows that sort of, uh, the psycho template. Yeah, where it's like, uh, first act is where the murder happens and the rest of it is like sort of finding out what's going on. Sure. So she hires a private detective played by the amazing Charles Derning. He's hilarious. Yeah, he talks like Popeye through the entire movie. He looks like Popeye.

He's kind of like one cheek up and like one eye kind of close. And they're having this also could have like comedic, buddy film moment where they're both like. So they decide that she's going to track Danielle and he's going to follow the couch. That makes so much sense and I

don't know why I didn't figure that out of my own. Oh, okay. Where was I was I when I when this happened? So there's a lot of scenes of them just like try and try to try and to trac st of the Siams. crazy germ lady in there yeah who really doesn't like people talking on the phone. No, she was good though. I really, I really, I really liked her. She was really good. And I thought the guy who was playing the, the, you know, the caretaker was really good too, just like trying to figure out to be the head of this hospital. And it was just like, oh, this is just one of the patients. Yeah, about Grace. Oh, she came last night. Yeah. And they fucking, they like dose her up and he hypnotizes her and all this crazy shit.

Because psychology is scary and weird. Yeah, I was like, I whatever. So this is where I have a note that says, well this really went off the rails. Yeah. And then we get, it goes off the rails in such a wonderful way. Because he hypnotizes her and then starts having Danielle tell the story of their like their trists and the separation from her sister and what it was like to be famous and... But she's like seeing herself as the sister as the twin isn't she? The Grace is like as the story is being told it has put herself into the story as the

other conjoining twin. Yeah, it's really, and it's really, it's really, um,'s really They keep doing these like close-ups on pupils and like Right and so and as they're going through she's like as Danielle is explaining like Life in the hospital and the fame and there's there's people in the background and their people populated from Grace's life or in the like her mom's in there and her naggy wretch mother who just wants her to get fucking married already and and Bernard Hughes is in there and you know there and Charles Durning it shows up later on when they're showing the separation and it's like you know they're showing the separation in this I don't know like swimming pool or something it was in a really weird area and there

were just a bunch of people watching and like everybody touches the the the the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the-cunararar. And there were just a bunch of people watching and like everybody touches the meat cleaver as it's going to separate the two of them. And it was just not a tripy and super like, I don't know, it was really effectively done. It really like, it was creepy and weird and like, the the the was creepy and weird and like still had a toucest of that comedic element to everything. I did not find it comedic. No? I was afraid. Yeah.

I don't know. There was just something like, maybe not comedic, maybe, like, there was almost like a little bit of whimsy to it or something. It was just very weird. Really? Did you think so? I felt very creeped out by it. that there is no body because there was no murder. Oh yeah. She just gets into her psyche. She, yeah. Yeah, he basically gives her a trigger that if she's questioned about it, this is her response.

And so as the, he's getting Danielle to tell this, she's getting more and more agitated. Danielle is. Danielle is. And in the flashback thing, we see that Danielle and Emil were having a romantic affair of some sort. Gross. He's gross. She was still a conjoined twin. And during one of their sessions, the conjoined twin now.

Is that what you call it, sessions? Yeah, sessions. Great, Grace. Time for a session. I got you penciled in for a session Oh, Christ. Oh, maybe is that any weirder than bone zone? Yeah, true or fuck So the flashback and we're seeing this the session start and

Dominique is awake during this and and Dominique is awake during this and how could she sleep? Daniel goes, can't you take care of her? Can't you get rid of her? Can't you get rid of her? Yeah. And he like doses her with something and then, oh my god, she's dead. You know, just like during the operation, she dies somehow. Yeah. Assuming that he killed her. I didn't, yeah, I couldn't tell if the implication was that he killed thoomky, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, couldn't tell if the implication was that he killed her or she just really didn't survive the separation.

Right. Or they were like, if during the surgery it was like, well, one of them is getting this crucial part, it's going to be the one that he's having sessions with. And they're attached to the butt. Like, you know, since the separation, she's taken on this personality of her sister and is the, that's her villainous side, her evil side. And it has to do with having sessions too.

And it's, now I remember. It's really, it adds to the upsettingness of this whole. Like, as if like, you know, doctor, patient, the boob and like the I don't like that I said honk at the boob I wrote it I don't know I don't remember raining it but yeah yeah so she she stabs him in the paper and then stabs him

in the guts and they're both like they've become entwined while that's yeah as he's dying it seems like Danielle comes back and like lovingly embraces him. This is all happening like right on top of Grace. She's like literally on top of her. Are you fucking kidding me? Are you kidding me right now? When she's still in that day's state so she's like, what? What's going? Yeah.

And they're both covered in his gore and both Danielle and Emil are just like, they're just like the hands are coated in blood. So then we go through the like the cops accusing Danielle of murder and her being like I've never killed anyone. Yeah. And then they're going, no uh-uh you did and they

arrest her. That's the last line in the movie actually. No, you did. Sure, that's real. And then, well, not quite, like, so they take, then we go to the cop visiting Grace at home. Oh, right, right. She's saying, like, her childhood home with her mother and her mom's taking care of her. And the guy's like, all right, well, I totally believe you. So we need to following their careers. Yeah. This is what's going to happen to you. Yeah well not to me. Not to you. To me. Right.

I'm sorry. Not sorry. I mean I was bound to happen sometime all this focus on my career. So she so she she just keeps repeating that line more and more vigorously, more agitated. You can see that it's truly her belief. And it's such a bummer because the cop just wants to get her for this. Like they've got it for the one, they want to get her for the other murder and solve this. She'll listen to her in the first place. She listened to Grace before she went to the crazy town. Yeah, yeah. It was really sad. So the last shot of the movie starts off with the sofa sitting by a railway station with

a cow and a bunch of tomatoes piled next to it. Yes, well that's what you get at railroads. And no one else around, but Charles Durning is up a telephone pole with a tractor and like, and then it's just the end. Because he was like, someone's gonna come pick up that couch and I'm gonna see who it is. Right. But it seems like maybe it was just abandoned. I hope he isn't up there forever.

Yeah. It was so weird. It was such a weird, interesting way to end. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. thi. thi. to the to the to to to to to to to to the the the to to to to the to the the the the the the the the to the to to to to be just, to be just, to be just, to be just, to be just, to be. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the thia. the the the the thia. the the thia. the the thi. the the thi. th movie. And he did. Literally to the credits. Yeah. Yeah. A weird one. Yeah. I really enjoyed it. Yeah. If we were going to do ratings, I would say that I would definitely give this movie an eight. Oh yeah. But I think it might be my favorite Duffama movie that I've seen. It was just really sold it and the score was amazing. Yeah I really love Hitchcock I have always sort of my first entry into horrors my mom really liked Hitchcock so I saw a lot of those movies when I was young so I did really like some of

the aesthetics and the ideas the the plot set up of this movie yeah yeah did you did the the sort of mundaneness of that the middle section of the film where they're just sort of track the dat detract from it? Well I was binge eating cereal so I think I was like really focused on that. I need to stop binge eating during these movies because sometimes I feel like I get too focused on that. Binging cereal. Yeah and it was crunchy too so I kept like missing some of the dialogue and I'd have to rewind it. I'm not sorry. This is my life. This is my podcast.
