Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 286- Knife + Heart (2018)

Episode Date: June 22, 2020

In this week's episode, we took on a listener request to review a queer horror film in honor of Pride month and sight unseen we selected the 2018 French film "Knife + Heart." Special topics for your c...onsideration include: a very shame-filled upbringing, giallo tropes in action, a plea tothe universe for Pride parades, learning to type with other parts of your body and 'artsy fartsy' as a subcategory of aesthetics. Happy Pride month, everyone! Please don't forget to donate to National Lawyers Guild for our fundraising drive to support Black Lives Matter. All you have to do is donate to National Lawyers Guild (nlg.org) and forward us a receipt at werewolfambulance@gmail.com, send us a screenshot or tag us on social media. We'll be matching 10% of your donations and if we hit $2,500 in the month of June, I (Katie) will touch a horse. On video. We already have the horse lined up. On one hand, I want to raise a lot of money for a seriously good cause; on the other hand, I kind of want to faint when I think about actually touching a horse. As of the posting of this episode, we're just about 25% of the way there.  Pretty sure we have only ever covered one other French horror film, Episode 151- "Raw." We have, however, covered giallo films extensively so please just get into our catalog and roll around a bit, okay? Have you been thinking about buying a t-shirt but perhaps none of the designs spoke to you? Then we are certain you'll love our brand new design by the inimitable Justin Gray, "Close Enough, Lucio!" You can get this design printed on a t-shirt, cell phone case, throw pillow and more weird items at www.teepublic.com/user/werewolfambulance.  Have you seen this one? Starting point is 00:00:00 Hi, Alan. Hey Katie. It's a it's a tough time, huh? Yeah, it is. We're making it through. We're doing fun stuff to give people a break from the Hardcore monotony. Yeah. To quote Fresh Prince. Yeah, but uh, to take you back to the hardcore monotony and the sadness and despair for a while, you know, it's probably pretty obvious from listening to us that we support the Black Lives Matter movement and th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thus thu thi thus thus thus th th th th th th th th th th th th th thu- thu- thu- thu-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in-in thu-in th th th th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th th. th th. th th th thu. thu. thu. thu to to thu to-a thuuuuuuuuuuuuu thuuuuuuu thu thuu thu thu thu th listening to us that we support the Black Lives Matter movement. And on that note, we're going to do a charity fund drive here. Yeah, we're going to raise some money with you for the National Lawyers Guild. Do you want to tell me what that is? Sure. The National Lawyers Guild is the nation's oldest and largest progressive bar association
Starting point is 00:00:43 and was the first one in the US to be racially integrated. Their mission is to use the law for the people, uniting lawyers, law students, legal workers, and jailhouse lawyers to function as an effective force in the service of people by valuing human rights and the rights of ecosystems over property interests. That sounds like something we should support. All right so so here's what we're going to do. Yeah, you're the you're the money person. Talk to me about money. All the goal is to raise $2,500. We will match 10% of that. All you have to do is go to NLG.org, donate there. You can just then send us evidence of it, whether it's forwarding us the donation email, tagging us on social media, screenshoting it and sending it to us, whatever.
Starting point is 00:01:28 If we hit $2,500 with our 10% match, what are we gonna do? I'm gonna touch a horse. And we're gonna film it, we're gonna film it, and share that with you. And literally as I said that, I started to sweat. I felt like a bead of sweat under my arm roll down. Look, we're bringing people together, we're helping people out, and we're uniting Katie and horses. What better thing could we be doing?
Starting point is 00:01:55 We all need to change our minds, right? So maybe I need to change my mind about horses. That's a worthy, goddam cause even if I don't touch a horse. So, you know, make your donation, send us the proof. We'll tally it up, and I guess what, by the end of June we'll say. Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sounds good. You guys have to tell June 30th. We'll put a little counter on our Facebook.
Starting point is 00:02:15 I don't know how this works. I'll just make checks marks on a piece of paper. I would like you to do that. Count down to horse. But yeah, we figured this would be something we could do that's fun and also involves you guys and does something really positive and could help people out. Yeah. Because we got to do what we can. Yeah, all of us need to chip in and make this world a little bit better. A lot better. If you can only donate a dollar, donate a dollar, it's one dollar closer to my fears being realized. Yeah, you
Starting point is 00:02:50 want to scare Katie. Thank you. Thank you. And now on to the episode. Oh my god. Oh God Alan. We are in the studio. We are in the studio. We are social distancing. I have put extra distance between the two of us and a fan to blow our spinel away. Yeah, if I could describe this scene to you. Typically Alan and I sit in an L shape when we record at the table. Very close to each other. I don't know why, but we always have. We're like an elderly couple of restaurant making fun of people. Yeah, totally. We want to both be able to see the same people. So now we are on opposite sides of the table, but in order to extend the table table, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, Alan, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, to to to to to to to their table Alan has added an ironing board. On which he has a very nice setup. You got a DIY this shit. Yeah, so we are six feet away. There's a fan on the table between us. It's, Alan's is going to blow our spit drops that way,
Starting point is 00:03:55 which is to my left, and you know, I think it's great. We're trying to figure out what this means. Yeah, whatever this is. We're doing the best we can. That's all we can do. It's really nice to be here. I have to say, I feel great. I feel great. I had so much nervous energy when Katie first got here. I know you wouldn't make eye contact with me at first. Like a weird puppy. We're here, we're doing it. We're here. You kept hitting me with that rolled up newspaper. I beat on the floor th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. I feel to you wouldn't make eye contact. And I beat on the floor. Look, I wasn't going to tell them. Why do you have to tell them? You should be kinder to yourself. Speaking of being kind to people, it's Pride Month. It's Pride Month.
Starting point is 00:04:36 It is Pride Month. Let's all support our queer friends, and do what we going to do and get out their their their their their tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho and get tho and get tho and get tho and get tho and get th on and I wish there were parades. Oh yeah. This is huge bummer. Yeah yeah for sure. Are there any like just driving around like like a kid's graduation for pride? That should happen. That'd be awesome. They did that like at the zoo where you could drive through and look at the animals. So it seems like a drive-through parade is a very real thing. Sure. Were the animals also on cars? Yeah it was weird. It was, I I I I I I I I I I I I. the. the. the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they. they. they th. th. they they they they they they were. they were. they were. they're. they're. they're. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. I. th. th. th. th. th. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. it was weird. I mean, it seemed really uncomfortable and dangerous. But as it was pointed out to us, we hadn't really done anything like pride-specific in the past. No.
Starting point is 00:05:15 So we're trying to get better and celebrate with y'all. So here's where we fucked up. We picked a knife plus heart, which... So I'd unseen. I just liked the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way the way to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to get to get to to to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get way it sounded. I want to just go on the record here as saying that, you know, I was raised Catholic and as such I have a lot of guilt and a lot of shame. So, seeing a lot of sex is incredibly uncomfortable for me. Like, I want to jump out a window uncomfortable. Sure, for sure.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Yeah, it's, it was, especially the way that this film, this uncomfortable. Sure, for sure. Yeah. It was, especially the way that this film, this film handled like, what should have been two of the like most evocative things in the movie, which are murder and sex, are both handled in this like, meh kind of way. What do you mean by me? Like, there's no like visceral impact to either of them really, I didn't feel? Interesting. Like I didn't feel like the sex was very erotic. It was it was very perfunctory. Okay, yeah. For the most part, like and then the murders were just like, yeah, I guess I'm stabbing this guy to death.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Interesting. I had a very visceral reaction to this movie. Oh, all right. Then I found it, I mean, this is the top ten erotic things in my life, but. Uh, number one. I thought it was very, like, I hate the word erotic. It's very the shame of it. But I had a very visceral reaction to it. Yeah, but I'm also kind of a prude, so.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I guess, yeah, I think I was expecting to have more of a visceral reaction to it, maybe. Yeah. Well, maybe you watch too much porn. Sure. Probably. So this does star, former wife of Johnny Depp. Vanessa Paradis? She's lovely, I love that gap in her teeth. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:11 I'm very jealous of a gap in her teeth. Really? Yeah, I think it's such a good look. It is. It's got this like confidence to it that they're just like, fuck yeah. theeth. Not to say if you don't, there's anything wrong with that. No, I am saying that. If you, no, my teeth are crooked in the front, so they're like opposite gaps. I had braces for four years,
Starting point is 00:07:31 my teeth are still fucking crooked. That's how strong my teeth are. They're just gonna do what they're gonna do. Why are you trying? Well, I talked through my mouth. That's where my teeth live. My first note says, I don't speak French, but it sure does look like a lot of production companies on this one, because they were like 12 that they listed. I couldn't tell if they were like the real production companies and then fictional porn companies. So this is a movie about a production company that makes gay porn in 17. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, thi, that, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. th. th. thi. th. the. the. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th about a production company that makes gay porn in 1979, but it felt like
Starting point is 00:08:06 it could have been done today. They just look like hipsters. Yeah, I think that was literally just for the costuming. Yeah. But it just felt like, yeah, I could see dudes now wearing these outfits. For sure. Denim shorts have not gone out of style. It's an homage it seems to Gialo films or Giali,
Starting point is 00:08:26 which I guess is the plural of Giolo. That would make sense, yeah. And it's French as fuck. So French, which I gotta say rubs me the wrong way. Just the French in general. No, the French aesthetic. It's just, it's just, this from the jump I'm like, oh here we go. The French. I definitely have that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th th th th th th th th th th th th is th is th th is th is th th th is th. th is th. thi th. th. th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th is I th is I th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the oh, here we go. The French. I definitely have that when I was dumb, I associated French stuff with smart, so I'm like, I'm watching a French movie. I'm a smart guy. That feels good, though. I am still dumb, and so I don't like the French films. Except for the, uh, the series, Le Vampires. Oh, I know you do love. I. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that that that that that that that the French films except for the the series Le Vampires. Oh I know you do love that. I love that. That is a French aesthetic I can get behind. So the production company is run by Anne who is played played by Vanessa Paradis. Is that correct? No. Still dumb. I love the opening sequence of the like porn shoot where the two dudes are
Starting point is 00:09:34 starting to get it on and there's a guy watching them who starts licking a tree. Yeah, so their the her films are very, they're telling a story that is very bizarre for porn or for anything. For any sort of filmmaking. So she's having these dreams. Right, right, right, right. And real life is always interspliced with these sort of surreal porn movies. Yeah. So like we see an actor who's acting in the porn film and also in a dance club. Yeah. That is IRL, ostensibly. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:10 And then they start making a film about what's happening in real life with them acting as the people in real life. Right, right. Right. It's just layers on layers, see. But it also felt very Argento or Bava or like... You guys solve it. Is that what you mean?
Starting point is 00:10:28 For sure, you guys solve it, fuck it, it looks good. Ah, sure. Because this movie looks gorgeous. Yeah. And the soundtrack is M83 and it's amazing. Yeah, it sounds great. There's like animal-faced men in a band in the club scene. Yeah. That's like really weird synth wave song. That was super,
Starting point is 00:10:48 and they were like animal faces in bondage gear. It was really cool. And while we see the guy in the in the club, two dudes are grinding on him and he's staring at a terrifyingly masked man. I am surprised more people aren't staring at that terrifyingly masked man in that club as well. He seems to go unnoticed. He's like wearing a quiet riot mask but in leather? No, no, no, not a lot of kids. No, I'm 36, I don't know what you're talking about. You don't remember, Come On Feel the Noise by Quiet.
Starting point is 00:11:23 I do know the song. I don't know what you're talking about. You don't remember come on feel the noise by Quiet Right? I do know the song. I don't know the association. Their album cover for metal health. That I like. Was wearing an iron mask. Oh my god. Okay so Google image searched that I guess that's what it looks like. And also a wig, like a dark curly wig, right? That is just, so the his entire face and head look like a weird, just solid wall of black. Right, right, right. And the little you can see around its eyes is extremely pink flesh. Yeah. It's like very disconcerting. Yeah. And so they start making out. Yeah, I don't think that would be my first race, but I guess mystery and all that, you know.
Starting point is 00:12:07 I like how they're going to attempt to make out mouth to mouth, but the mask is obviously going to prevent it so the guy just spins him around and starts licking him. I'm like, well, you know, just solving problems. So, yeah. Everybody's working here on the fly. So, uh, he, the, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, the young, they. It's, they. It's, th. It's to. It's just, to to to to to to to to. It's, to to to to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, to. It's, they's, they's, they's, they's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going. It's going, they. It's going, they. It's going, they. It's going, they. It's going, they're actor allows this person to tie him up, which I just feel like, no. Quick question, yeah. Was that just the bed in the club? Was that the club bed? Well, apparently there are club beds in a lot of places that you can go. So I, maybe, maybe, yeah. Because, I don't know where they find him, where they find his body? They don't really say. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi tie tie tie tie tie tie tie tie thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi don't know where they find him, where they find his body. They don't really say. Not in real life, nor in the porn reenact. No, no, it's true.
Starting point is 00:12:52 And so, you want to talk to me about the murder weapon? Oh, so, uh, they start, uh, ties them up, laying down on top of him a little bit of grinding and then leans back and goes into his pants and pulls out a huge black dildo That has a knife that shoots out of the tip of the dildo Holy shit That was intense. That was incredibly intense. I'm sure dead Freud was like, what? What a dick knife? Tell me more. Why didn't I invent that? Oh man, a dick knife. Which I have the note, very argento. Yeah, it's really, it's a lot to look at for me. So here's a little bit of confusion. We see the person being stabbed, but we don't see where they're being stabbed. Like the violence isn't happening on screen. We just see them from shoulders up.
Starting point is 00:13:50 You can kind of guess. You can kind of guess. You gotta guess. And then later it's revealed that he was stabbed in the rectum. But while he's being stabbed, blood is pouring out of his mouth. Yeah, I wasn't sure if there was like a large artery that runs from the back of your mouth to your butthole. And if so, I guess if it gets severed, it's going to come out both. I guess, yeah, yeah, maybe. If you're lying flat, because there's no gravity one way or the other. It was, I was like, okay, the blood's an artistic choice, go with it. I mean, it did look great. It's like that, it. It's like, it. It's like that, it. It's like that, it. It's like that, that, it. It's like, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, yeah. It's like, yeah. that, yeah. that. It's like, yeah. that. that. that. that. that. that, that, that, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that. Yeah. that. Yeah. Yeah. that. that. that. that. that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. that. Yeah, yeah. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. very jalo. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:14:26 That coat Anne is wearing, I feel like it must have been so squeaky. Which, oh, yeah. That green coat? And then that the actor is wearing later in the born reenactment to indicate that he is her. Oh, I love it so much. I feel like they must have done so much editing of that squeaking-squ sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque sque squeaky. I feel like they must have done so much editing of that squeaking out. I can't think of what the material, I guess it's just plastic, just a plastic coat? I guess vinyl maybe? Oh maybe. Yeah, super shiny vinyl.
Starting point is 00:14:55 So she is on the phone with her recently exed girlfriend, Lois, who is just cute as a button. Oh my god. And she takes a very relaxed view of what is and isn't a shirt in this movie I would say. I feel like that's one of those things like if I thought I could pull that off. I would do it. You now? Yeah, why not?
Starting point is 00:15:18 Or when you were younger? No, no, no. At 46? Yeah. Sure. It's just that she feels- What makes you think you can't? A lot, but we could talk about that like. She felt that all of her outfits that weren't her work clothes. Her work clothes looked like she was on the Brady Bunch. Yeah. And then her outfits, when she was going out,
Starting point is 00:15:40 thi to club 54. Yeah. Like everything was very club 54. And it was just like a lot of tiddy tape in there because otherwise it would just be titty town. Or sometimes it was just titty town. So from the conversation we can tell that Anne is a very toxic partner. She's just being like love me. Why doesn't anyone love me me and you're just like oh no Lois Lois is like we agreed to see each other only at work and it's like lois get a new job I love when Anne comes into spy on her and she's looking through the little people and then the people when they pull out of the people on the other side of the wall it's in a person's mouth like a mustachioed mouth on like a psychedelic background. Yeah, it was very, it reminded me of Mandy for some reason.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I mean, just because the most recent thing we watched that was similar to that, but I was like, oh, is this going to be like that? But it really isn't after that. No, I feel like And then a similar, the fuck is going on aspect to Mandy. Yeah. Hoi. So she's having these dreams, which I have to say look like the dream, the video from the ring. Oh yeah, for sure. It's like, oh no. Because they're all like either negative or like high contrast black and white. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:59 And they're like shifting in and out. You're like, oh, I saw I saw on a VHS, a cabin in the woods. So what she's dreaming about is a barn on fire, and like some young men, and I forget what else. They're like burning up in the fire, and then later a castration. Oh, I must have missed that. Yeah, that's why the Black Dildo. Oh, God. Oh, good lord. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Oh, Alan. Everything I was reading about this movie were just like, you know, calling it exploitation and calling it like trashy, but also very evocative. And I would agree with all of those things. I think it is in that genre of 70s exploitation film. I mean, I feel like this film is showing you Times Square in the 70s through a French lens almost. Okay, yeah. Like it felt like
Starting point is 00:18:12 movies like Driller Killer and Basketcase and those like 70s early 80s New York like Gritty like but and very like I wanted to say like Gonzo like they're just like gorilla movies movie making kind of stuff It kind of had that feel at points But also again, it's French as fuck like, like they're just like, they're just like grile-fuck. Oh, they're their, like, like, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, like, like, stuff. It kind of had that feel at points. But it also, again, it's French as fuck. It's so like, it's just like this, again, I lack a vocabulary, but like an artsy aspect to it, that it just feels so like art house French film. The word you're looking for is, artsy fartsy. That's honestly what it is. It's artsy, fartsy. It's arts and farts and farts. that. that it. It's that it. It's that it. It's that it. It's that it. It's that. It's that. It's that. It's that's that's ths. It's the the the the the the the the the ths. It's that's that's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's ths. It's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the ths. It's th. th. thi. thi. the the thi. the the the the thi thi the thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. -fartsy. That's honestly what it is. It's arts and farts and farts and farts. No you're right absolutely right about being beautiful and evocative of those those same like feelings. Yeah. Yeah. I really liked when the guy started ramming his dick into the typewriter.
Starting point is 00:19:00 I found that extremely sexy. That's when they were recreating the police interrogation scene. Yeah, yeah. I love that. The actor who's playing Anne in the scene is getting a foot job from one cop and the other cop he turns to his buddies like keep taking notes so he stands up and just starts ramming his dick into the typewriter. I love that! I laughed really hard. That's the kind of thing that's that, that's the th th the th th the kind th th. Yeah the kind th. Yeah the kind the kind the kind thi thi the kind thi thi the kind the kind the kind thi the kind thi the kind the kind thi the kind the kind the kind the kind th thi thi the kind thi. Yeah th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the kind th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the ty. the the the the ty. the the the te. the the the te. the the kind. the kind te. te. taking notes. So he stands up and just starts ramming his dick into the typewriter. I love that. I laughed really hard at that. That's the kind of thing that's for me. Oh, but it's, it's, uh, it's that disconcerting, like, there's some really heavy content in this movie, and then these like, a dude
Starting point is 00:19:40 ramming his dick into a typewriter. Yeah, I mean that is followed like pretty quickly by the conversation with the mouth guy who says I need when they're like what do you pay what does she pay you and he says I need nothing I live with my mom and you're just like the fuck yeah like that is so deeply unsettling deeply unsettling. The golden mouth. Oh my god. He's the fluffer. Yeah, and he's just so happy to be there. He doesn't even get paid. Yeah, yeah, that's this movie. You're right though, that is like the perfect contrast to ramming her tick into a type of record. I think it's literally the next scene, yeah. So did you think that the lesbian club scenes looked way more fun than the gay man club scenes? It just seemed like they were having a better time. They weren't taking it as seriously. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Yeah, it seemed more intense at the like the man club scene. The ladies were just like, yeah, we're just dancing. Let's do this. Yeah, we're probably gonna fuck, but we're gonna dance right now. Right now we're dancing. Also, we've been seeing a crow. That kind of looks like the cat from Sabrina the teenage witch, that weird puppet, you know? I didn't watch the show but I know of the weird puppet. So we see the disco scene where in the the the the the scene. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the. teck. teat. te' te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. but I know of the weird puppet. So we see the disco scene where Louise goes to that, and that's contrasted with a scene of a guy, one of the actors shooting up in an abandoned car outside of the disco, I guess?
Starting point is 00:21:13 Oh yeah, we've been told that he's an addict because they tell him to stop using so much heroin, because he's barely hard. You're just like, I'm here, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm th. the room. Hey guys Katie's here. Could you just keep it to yourselves? Are you talking about boners? Why is it that I can make so many boner jokes in the safety of this attic? And then the real boners, I'm just like, oh, geez, oh boy, oh brother. It's so adorable. Shut up. I'm blushing. I can feel that I'm blushing. Luckily the lights are real dim because Missy stole one of our lamps. I did notice it was darker in
Starting point is 00:21:51 here. Well, good thing. So he's shooting up in the car and then our masked man, the crow shows up, which is the harbinger of the masked killer, who pulls out his dildo again and starts getting a blowy from the dude who just got high, and then stabs him through the back of the hand. And while he's doing this, while he's committing these crimes, he is making this horrible sound.
Starting point is 00:22:21 Oh yeah, you didn't find that, you found that upsetting? I don't th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thu thu. thu. I don't thu. I don't tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, that. that, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho.... tho, tho. tho. tho. thi. tho. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. thea. thea. thea. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. tog. toge. toge. the You didn't find that, you found that upsetting? I don't know if I should have try to impersonate it because I feel like if you have headphones on you might be mad at me, but it sounds like this. Grrrh! Hr-h-rh! And it's a real hard, it's really hard to look at, it's really hard to look also an homage to the movie in the New York Ripper which I've talked about before the full-two movie that we'll never do.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Yeah you've promised me we would never have to do it. The murderer and that quacks like a duck. Luccio. There is a in the original maniac not the Elijah Wood one there's like some weird heavy breathing like POV shots from that too that like it kind of reminded me of. Or like the bear from Grizzly. The bear from Grizzly. Yo, we had a bear in my neighborhood yesterday. It was so exciting. I all I cared about yesterday was that goddame bear. All I cared, all I thought about was the bear. The pits of public safety said that the bear was on which is just up from you. I didn't th all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. the th. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. thea. thea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. t from you. I didn't know how far up the hill that street goes.
Starting point is 00:23:25 But I was like, that bear's around the corner from Alan's house. I figured if they hadn't caught it, we might have to cancel a recording because you wouldn't come over for the bear. You mean if it was still roaming around today, Oh yeah, because it dip from the backyard. Come, don't invite the bear over. Let's admire the bear from afar. I just want to recreate the cover for Doing Thanks. Yes, Big Bear doing thanks.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Just mean a smoking jacket in my pool with a bear. I wish we could drop that in here. And I feel like we probably could because is Big Bear really looking at those copyrights? Maybe I'll just send big a message and ask. Hey Big Bear! Could I get the rights to doing things? Big Bear at AOL.com. Big Bear is still using that old ass email. Oh yeah. So my note about, uh, Terry says, that is just no way to go.
Starting point is 00:24:25 No. No. It's brutal. It's fucking horrible. I think this might have been where I texted you and was like, I don't know if I can keep watching this. And you said something reassuring, like, the second half will get easier to watch. And I just sent you that gift from the Simpsons of Martin and Lisa setting on a hill and Martin just lets go and rolls down because
Starting point is 00:24:49 that's all I could feel. But didn't the next scene where they're reenacting the interaction between the cop and the guy in the phone booth where they jizzed so much jizz on themselves? Oh my God. That made me laugh a lot too. I bet. The reenactment, the porn movie of the movie that's happening is so fucking funny. It is so good. Like there's also just someone making out with themselves in a mirror in this part, and I didn't know who that was or what they were doing, but that is just like hysterical to me. And the reenactments start to get more and more abstract? Yeah, like it starts out that there, the, because the police interrogation scene is pretty much like set up the same way it really happened.
Starting point is 00:25:36 But then it just turns into this weird like, I don't even know what's happening to the story. At one point it looks like a Shadeh video. It is just like, it's just all white drapes all over everything. I guess it's when she is starting to make the films of her artistic vision. Right. But they're still telling this story. Right. Because she can't figure out how any of the dreams are tying into anything. So is she's psychic? thi, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. It's just like th. It's just like thi. It's just thi. It's just thr- thr- thr- thrap thrap thrap thrap thrap thrap thrap thrap thrap thrap. It thr- thr- thr- thr- thra. thr-a. thi. thi. thr-a. It's just just just just just just just thr-a. thr-a. thr-a. thr-a. thr-a. thri. thrie. thr-a. thr-a thrie. thr-a thria. because she actually made that, she made that movie. Did she make the movie based on the dreams? Like has she always been having the dreams? I guess? It seemed like they were new. Yeah. Because she, because like the, what's the guy's name, the main? Archibald? He says to her, he asks her about the dreams, which made me think that she had just recently started having that movie ages ago. Now we're to the end of this movie, which don't worry, it doesn't really make sense. Although there is like an epilogue that is just so deeply French, it's like hard to actually look at.
Starting point is 00:26:38 I was wondering if you got if you stuck around that long. It comes, it comes before the credits. Oh, do they? Yeah, like there, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we they, we their, we their, we get, we get, we get, we get, we get, we get, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to. to to to to to to to to to to to to the. to the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the credits. Oh the credits started. Oh do they? Yeah like there we get like starring like and we get two names and then that goes into the weird apple log. I must have just not found the remote fast enough. Talk to me about the scene with the stage show with the woman in the spider web fishnet and whatever she is dancing with. My notes about that to say the lesbians seem to be having a much more fun time. Because that I thought was great. Maybe I just like lesbians, I don't know. Who doesn't? That was a great performance. The woman just covered in blood by the end. Was that a bear? Was it a ferret? Was it a weasel? Was it a weasel? Was it a weasel? the whe's a th- that a th. th. th. Was th. Was th. Was th. Was th. Yeah. It was gophersesque. Yeah. I will say that the blood got me at first because I was like, oh is she really? And then you see the blood just
Starting point is 00:27:35 pouring out of the claws of the bear? Yeah. But uh, I thought it was great. Yeah. And that scene finishes with the woman being murdered singing, the more you kill me, the more I love you. Ugh. Yeah. Cut to the picnic. Yeah, then they're just having like a super fun brunch, seemingly. Yeah. Also, Anne has recruited this young man to do porn.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Yeah. Oh yeah, like a construction worker. Does it in such a gross and horrible way that I was like, imagine someone pitching porn to you like this? And you were like, okay. She, I think she is just not supposed to be a sympathetic character that you feel some sympathy for. But everything other than her relationship it's all kind of working for her.
Starting point is 00:28:29 But she's also a monster. Oh yeah, she's totally a monster. Yeah, she rolls up with a guy the construction or the quarry. I guess he's working. I don't know what he's doing. He's moving rocks. He's yeah here to there there to here. She's like, thi. the. And she's like, would you like to do that? And he's like, well, yeah, I like to have sex with women. She's like, sometimes we run out of women, which is a good way to put it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, fuck. I'm sorry. Did you want to the women because in the movie. Yeah, but she's just like you don't want to feel the pulsing of the blah blah blah and you're like oh I thought you were more metropolitan or whatever I expected you to be more modern than that. That's what was. But that's one of like the brief forays into homophobia in the movie. Sure yeah I guess so which so. Which I think is like... He gives it up pretty quick though, isn't he? He gets over that. Because he's just the next scene. No
Starting point is 00:29:28 explanation. There he is. He's acting. Jizzing so much on his own face. Oh no. Oh, Alan. As much as like that, that like, you have that like raised in a certain way reaction to like people actually talk you about the like raised in a certain way reaction to like people actually talking about their dicks being hard. Oh, you just made it worse. I have, I still, we've discussed this before, I still have like the boners and jizz are funny, like reaction to everything. That is totally fine.
Starting point is 00:29:58 Okay, so they're at this picnic. Yeah. And then a big storm comes up, I guess. It just seems to be wind. What was the thing? Oh, the bird shows up. Right. After the fortune tell her missia? Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 00:30:15 Telling her fortune and then Lois shows up. They run in, they kiss and a storm wh bird shows up. And the bird shows up. And then like, the camera turns around and this lady is acting like she's abandoned in the woods in the dark. It's daylight and you're in a field. Like how did you lose your friends? Like that's incredibly silly. There's a lot of spinning too, right? I really did like that spinning shot where it would spin around and the guy was behind her and then spun around and the guy was behind her again and then on top of her.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Yeah. The murder is fucking terrify looking. I have actually, I think I may have looked away during this one. Do you want to tell me about it or no? It's okay if you don't want to? I do like after, real quick after Anne and Lois kiss and Lois is about to run up, she says, we mustn't stand under the trees, we'll catch fire. I was like, is that just a bad translation? What was that? Or is it meant to be like sexy, like our love will reignite. That seems like a very French thing to say.
Starting point is 00:31:15 I don't remember how she's killed. That's okay. need to know. It's just though the murderer kills her. Okay. Oh I think they just stab her in the back. Okay. Yeah. And I have the note gorgeous because it looked very beautiful. We see Anne drinking and driving. Yeah. And falling asleep everywhere she goes. And sexually assaults lowest outside of the club. That fucking sucked. That fucking sucked. That fucking sucked. It was a bummer. That fucking sucked. It was a, there was no need for that to be. No, that whole, no.
Starting point is 00:31:52 I get that it's an evocative movie and all that. But it just, it was just like a, I don't know. It definitely took away from me finding this to be a positive experience. Yeah, there you come. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that, that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. It was, the the th. th. th. th. It was, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thee. th. th. thea. th. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. the. the. th. from me finding this to be a positive experience. Yeah, there you come. It's a nice way of saying anything, honestly. What about when she goes to me with the cop and like, she's like, do you guys have any information? And the one cop is just like, no? And walks away and the other cop's like, hey, we've got this feather. I keep a token from all of my
Starting point is 00:32:26 investigations. A feather in a wooden box with a red velvet interior and he's like, here, witness, you may have this. Thank you, obviously, the murderer? What the fuck? How is that guy not the murderer? I think he even called it a trophy. So, so, Anne decides to look into what this feather is. He's like, he says, these tests take months or something like that. So, she's gonna go to, she says she's looking up bird shops. But where the fuck does she go? It's like a temple. That pyramid in the middle of the woods? She literally says, look up bird shops. But where the fuck does she go? It's like a temple. That pyramid in the middle of the woods? What? She literally says, look up bird shops, and then she's talking to these people about this bird.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Where are you? She goes through like the gate of a secret garden. And then she's in this. Oh, again, gorgeous, like location. It's amazing. They were like, can we make this the bird shop? Because we need to use it. She's talking to this woman. And then Pierre comes? Where the fuck? What are you doing up there, Pierre? And when Pierre walks up, he's got this like,
Starting point is 00:33:34 I would call it a hunting jacket. It was like the shoulder pad for where you put and goes. They've sewn a pocket onto the front of this thing so his hand can fit in it? Yeah. His giant chicken hand. Like, I feel like you could trim the nails and it would look a lot better. Like, no one's forcing you to have talons. You know what I mean? If you're going to make the pocket, why not make the glove?
Starting point is 00:33:58 I don't know. And it's just like... Was there any explanation for why he has a giant bird? She says, oh, don't worry about Pierre. He has a rare genetic condition, it'll just get worse and worse. Will his whole body turn into a... I guess? That has nothing to do with anything! Did you also think that he looked like a weird, like French bird-enthusist Jared Leto? Sure.
Starting point is 00:34:19 Heard leto. Pierre Adletto. Yeah, Pierre Adletto. But he like touches her face with his bird hand. Is that just to see if she flinches? That also felt very Argento to me. There's a movie called The Bird with the Crystal Plumage. And in that there is a man who is living in a house full of cats that you realize is what he's eating. Oh, Alan. Archanto, it's such a weird, like, it's just such a weird touch that didn't need to be there, but yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Just like the bird hand. So they tell her where the bird came from, it's an extinct moon-eyed or milk-eyed crow I can't remember what they called it it it it's a chaladra cackle oh crackle crackle crackle that free app from a television I was thinking actually the the red candy bar in the Hershey's minis I like me a crack. With a K. Yeah, so this is a blind bird but it has less, it was last slated in like the 18th century or something. Okay. Except we've been seeing it through the whole movie. Honestly, we've been seeing a little too much of it really for how good it looks. So she takes a train.
Starting point is 00:35:42 She sleeps. Yeah. Goes to this weird inn. They're like, hey, yeah, my daughter I'll take you out there. Yeah. The daughter is a total weirdo. Total weirdo. Was she just like, what was she, what was she doing? I got the vibe that she was like hitting on Anne?
Starting point is 00:36:03 Yeah, therewau. But she just like smelled on Anne. Yeah. Like that, there was that gone on her that because she wasn't married, she must be, okay. She's, she's down for it. She's down for it. DTF. But Anne is just like constantly drinking. She's like, do you want some? And the one's, it's like, oh God, yes.
Starting point is 00:36:16 Yes, I do. She's recovering alcohol like a camp doing this and Ann's like I don't get fucked. Yeah, not Anne's problem. Not Anne's circus, not Anne's monkeys. I think that's Anne's approach to fucking everything. Yeah, I wish I hadn't approached more like that honestly. It's hard to care. Do you need a WWADD bracelet? What would Anne do? Yeah, they do? I also love that you had the bleach blonde hair with the roots growing in? I th that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thian's thian's thian's thian. thian. th. th. their their their their their their th. I think that's such a good look. Those bangs are also very dope. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so she goes out to the cemetery.
Starting point is 00:36:52 She just wanders into the woods alone. And I was like, yes, you deserve to wander into the woods. Because woman who has never walked into woods before in her life. She's not dressed for walking into the woods. She's like, what are you doing here, Anne? She's the news reporter in that, oh man, what was that fucking Baltimore alien movie that we did? Oh, uh, with an Atlantis in it? Oh, I loved Atlantis so much. But there was like the news reporter lady that was never dressed the elements, thaaaa, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, thed, thed, thed, thed, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thiaaaaaaaa, thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, th was like the news reporter lady that was never dressed for the elements that she was doing. Yeah that's why she always had bare legs in the
Starting point is 00:37:27 snow because remember it snowed sometimes and not other times there? Fuck what was that movie call? I don't know. I liked it. Dr. Hargeek is yelling at us right. Right. The guy, the alien looked at it. The alien. Fn't the tool the thi. Fl. F. Fl. Fl- I th. Fl-I thi. Fl-I alien. Fl-f. Fl-ff. Fl-f. Fn't-f. Fn't-f. Fn't-f. Fn't-fewn't-fewn't-fewn't-f, thi-f, th. F. I'm gonna look, I'm gonna look, well, you tell me what happens next. Because it's just, I'm gonna think about it and I'm not gonna record Will. So she goes to the cemetery, there's a lady who's in the cemetery that disappears and reappears? Yes, she does. Why, she's not mystical. She's not mystical. the. Oh Mr. Cal? Not mystical with a K.
Starting point is 00:38:05 You always listen to a rap song today where exhibit showed up and I was like, a new one? Yeah, pretty recent. Oh, I'm glad he's out there. The alien factor. I knew it was a terrible day where to begin with this one. You might want to lock that down for this one too. Yeah. We also forgot to mention that the movie that they're making is called Anal Fury until it isn't because then it's called Homocidal. Yes, it is. I guess that pun plays in French. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. Good. It's. It's. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th th th th th th th th th th thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's to. It's to. It's to th. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's the thi. It's the to the to thi. It's to to to to to to to th is. It is. I guess that pun plays in French, huh? I guess so. Good.
Starting point is 00:38:46 Good. Good, good, good. So, It's the Antle Fury 5 also, I want to be clear. But surprisingly, the first homociedle. So she's, the cemetery of the lady says she was the mother of G. Farve. It is, it's Farve.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Like Brett Farb. I was assuming that Brett Farve mispronounce his own name. No, I listened for it. And they say that like Brett Farve. They are. Also, French, it's spelled wrong. He's a football man? No.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Brett Farve is not a football man? No, he is. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thee. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the. the. the the. the the. football man? No, he is. Oh, alright. I just wanted to make you second-guess yourself. I can't have you getting too confident on your sports knowledge. I am the one who knows sports, okay? Is this because all the boner talk? Yes, I'm terribly uncomfortable and deeply want to move on to recording the next episode. So, mom explains that Gie, the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thine, thine, thine, thine, thine, thine, that, that, that, thi, that, that, that, thi, thi, I thi, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that, I that, I that, that, that, that, that, that, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to that, his body was never found. Yada, yada. Then his dad died like two days later or something?
Starting point is 00:39:51 Yeah, okay. Dude, when she goes back to the hotel and she has to make a phone call and there's that rotary phone that's covered in velvet, I was like, what is going on and why don't I have that phone in my life? You know this is a decor period that I love it, and that's, th, that we really see. I was like, damn Velvet Rotary Phone. I love it. So then she's back making another movie called Hex Rated, which is now going to be that they're giving about, it's like sort of a sex prayer. Oh yeah. It's like, he's like, may the spirit of sodomy envelop you, may you come forevermore. And I was just like, E! God, can you imagine how exhausting that would be? I just I just have to pee and then I'm hungry so I don't want to do this anymore.
Starting point is 00:40:55 I just this is after though this is after though did you mention that Lois was editing the footage and saw Gie in the background and now she's like gonna go try to find Anne to tell her? That's right. That's so annoying what she does when she finds her. I wrote, fuck this, Lois deserves so much better. The power goes off on Lois while she's editing and there are mice in the fuse box. He is, okay. She opened it up and did not react. She was like, that makes sense. These fuckers again. He's fucking.
Starting point is 00:41:34 Um. So the murderer shows up on the set. Uh, kills one of, kills the footjob cop who told his friend to keep typing. I'm just going to type it with his dick. And yes, so that guy gets murdered. Yep. And then Guy disappears again. Yep. We just cannot catch Gie. And then Lois is killed, trying to protect Anne.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Yeah, so Gie is running at Anne. We don't really know why, we don't know why to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to keep to to to to keep to keep to to to keep to to to to to to to to keep to to to keep to to keep to keep to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their thy. thy. thy. thy. thy thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi tip tipe tipe tipe tipe tipe tipe tipe tipe tipe tipe toe toe toe thiii. thiis is killed trying to protect Anne. Yeah, so Gie is running at Anne. We don't really know why. We don't know why at all actually. Yeah, yeah. And Lois throws herself in front of the knife and it's so fucking annoying. Like what are we supposed to take from that? You could have been free Lois. Could have been with Moon. Moon was dope. Moon was super dope. Oh man, when we first meet Moon and they're dancing at the club? Yeah. Who the fuck is this? Then later, which is like, Moon, can you come pick me up? I was like, who is Moon? And then when I saw who Moon was, I was like, yes, Moon. Hell, yeah, you are Moon. So then we go to, Nan a theater watching homicidal. Well, so is Anne?
Starting point is 00:42:47 Anne has arrived there first. She's sad that Lowe's is dead, so she goes to watch her movie a hundred times drunk. So, yeah, right. Because Lowe's had just finished editing it before she died. Right. So they just show it and then show it again? Yeah, that's the way those theaters work. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:07 I find it weird that the lights come up in between. It seems weird that they would. You think you would just keep them down. Oh, people coming in, got to find their seat. Just wait until your eyes adjust. No one needs the light the whole thing with the New York Times like, or New York Times Square, the New York Times Square theaters is people would like buy a ticket at a day of clock in the morning and then sleep the entire day there. Yeah. Because they just would never
Starting point is 00:43:38 kick anybody out. Yeah, I guess until you like peed in there or something. Wow. Don't be in the theater. Anne goes there, she gets drunk. She has a dream where all the men that have been involved in her movies that are dead or in the theater with her. I liked that when they were all sitting around her. I thought that was a really nice shot. Yeah, I was like, oh, is this going to turn into an American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American American?? about anything. No. Then we start seeing another movie that she made, which she calls a moldy-oldy, which is a great phrase. Yeah, it felt very el-viral. Yeah, it really does.
Starting point is 00:44:16 Which is about these two young men in a barn and then they're caught by one of their fathers. But the father joins in. That's very 70s. Oh, is it really? Oh, Alan, I hate it. The 70s porn stuff was real weird. Why? I don't know. There was just a lot of incest.
Starting point is 00:44:42 Ew. Because it was so taboo, I guess that. I mean, I guess people are. I shouldn't, I'm not going the th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going th going thi thi- I'm not going thi- I'm not going tho- I'm not going thoomk, I'm not going their their thiou. I'm not their their the father the father the father the father the father the father the father their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their just a lot of incest. Ew. Because it was so taboo, I guess. But who's into that? I mean, I guess people are. I shouldn't. I'm not going to yuck anyone's the them as long as you're not doing it, right? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:52 I remember a friend of mine had a porn like a porn. to was like, yeah, it was real weird. It had a terrible title that I'll tell you later. You're gonna tell me on the air? Okay. I'll edit it out. It was called, Ma'a.
Starting point is 00:45:13 Please leave my reaction. Just beep that out. So we also see in the the theater that there is a burnt man in a baseball cap and like a face covering. What happened to his wig? I don't know. Why is he wearing it? It's got the baseball cap now. Yeah. And you can see that something like he perhaps has been burned. His face has been disfigured in some way. Right. And Nann who is also there goes up to, uh, there's like a room upstairs where people are like doing sex, the sex. the sex thxxxxxx thx thx thx thexex sex thex sex thi sex thi sex thi sex thi sex thi sex thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that's that's thi, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's to to to to to to to to to to to to to to that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. So thi. thi. thi. thi. the theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat theat to the to to thi. thi. to thi to, there's like a room upstairs where people are like doing sex stuff. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Sex beds everywhere, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:51 That just seemed to be people standing around sexing. It seemed to be like waiting to be chosen to be sex, which felt very like gym class to me in a way that I really was not into. The weirdest dodgeball game ever. Yeah, or you've been like there for about an hour and you're like I guess I'll go home. And everyone has either red, yellow, or blue lights. They're walking around and shining on people, like checking him out I guess. Yeah. But so the guy in the baseball cap follows him up there. Because the whole movie we've been told that he looked like a man named Fouad? Yes. And he's not him. He just looks like him.
Starting point is 00:46:31 And when we see Fouad, it is the actor. It's the same actor. But the killer thinks that he is Fouad, tries to kill him. And he's like, I'm not him. And then they escape somehow. The killer escapes into the theater. And Anne is yelling at him as he's running away. And everybody in the theater is like,
Starting point is 00:46:53 oh, you like to kill gay people? Yeah, she's like he's the killer. And this killer's been basically terrorizing the community. So everybody gets up and kills him. This no, it's like this one little little little little little little Oh right, they beat him up and then hold him up. Yeah, and he stabs him. And he's crying while he's doing it. That is really hard to watch.
Starting point is 00:47:12 But it was also really like, I felt there was a lot of symbolism going on there. Certainly. But when, like, he was killing the actors in the movie that he, that was about his life? Right, it turns out that he was murdering everybody who was in the film that she had dreamt that was about his life. Right. That is the most convoluted thing I've ever said. And then he's killed for being homophobic, but he had all of these terrible things to him because he was gay. Right. Like, that's really fucking heartbreaking.
Starting point is 00:47:45 And he had suppressed all of those things and forgotten about them until he saw the movie. Oh, it's just, I just, it's, when this movie ended, I just like put my hands in my lap and was like, okay. Okay. Talk to me about what happens right before the end credits. Or like during the end credits or whatever that, the epilogue? The epilogue is Anne narrating the story, which is basically about Gie. Oh, oh, this isn't the thing that I was thinking of that happened during the credits. Well, you tell me what happened at the end of the movie then?
Starting point is 00:48:22 Uh, my notes get a little spotty towards the end there. I think that's the end, isn't it? Yeah, the stabbing and like, we see in flashbacks that Gie is having the story of like his father killing his lover, lighting the barn on fire, lighting Gie on fire who runs out of the barn on fire, and then his father kills himself. So it would probably be very upsetting to see the porn version of that where you fuck your father. Oh my god. So there's like a, oh so when the credits start rolling and then they stop rolling and we see all of the actors in the movie involved in like this very theatrical
Starting point is 00:49:05 love making. Yes. Like sort of orgy. So you saw that? Yes. And then it goes like dark. It's very white and bright and then it kind of goes dark on Anne and she's there with Lois. Oh, I didn't see this. Oh yeah. And then there's like there's no dialogue and I think Lois just disappears. What? Yeah, it's like it it's like it's like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's thi. It's th. It's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's th. It's th. It's sort. It's sort. It's sort. It's sort. It's sort. It's sort. It's sort. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's the th. It's th. It's th. It's th. th. the the th. th. th. the th. the the th. It's no dialogue and then I think Lois just disappears. What? Yeah, it's very like, it reminded me a lot of the end of Pontypool, where there's like, the scene at the end where like, the two main leads in Pontypool are all the sudden, like, gangster people in black and white. That's right. I forgot about that. So that is knifeless heart. Oh man.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Thank you to the listener who suggested this movie? Yeah, I mean, I certainly would never have seen it unless someone recommended to me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do you want to rate this movie? to sure. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:59 Um, I'm going to drink a little beer while you do this? Yeah. I had a hard time with this one. It was hard for me to watch. And then it's just also so horrible. Like the Gie's story is so horrible. Anne is a terrible person, that it's like hardly saved for me
Starting point is 00:50:17 by the things that are good about it, which is like how great Archibald is. I feel like we're th. th. th. th. seems like a great friend. Yeah, how weird the pet shop in the woods is and what is Pierre doing? Like all these weird little bits of it that I really liked were just like very brief respites from like being very, very stressed out for me. So I think this movie is great if this is your thing. The thriller part is great I guess is what I'm saying. Yeah. I just had a tough time the the the the the the the the the th th th tou tou tou tip tip tip tip tip tip tip tip tip th tip thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th. wee. wee. wee. wee we wee we wee we wee we wee we wee we wee we wee we wee we th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi the. weeeeeeeat. weeeeat. We theat. theeat. theeat. theeat. thi. theeat. thi weeeeee. wee. we. The thriller part is great I guess is what I'm saying. Yeah. I just had a tough time with so much gratuitous sex I guess. So I'm I can't even rate it. I'm gonna give it a bag of dicks which is a good thing or a bad thing. I'm giving it a bag of dicks. I'm sorry. We talked a little bit about this before we started and I don't want to, I don't want to
Starting point is 00:51:05 offend anybody, I don't want to mess up, like, but I'm, I'm, I will. We're doing our best. We're doing our best. I, like, when it first started, I was like, I don't think this is for me. And then by the end of it, I was like, oh, I am 100 percent, I'm a 100 percent, I'm a 100 percent, I'm a 100 percent, I'm a 100 percent, I'm a 100 percent, I'm a 100 percent, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm like, I'm like, I'm, I'm like, I'm like, I'm, I'm like, I'm, I'm, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I'm, I, I, I, I'm, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm a. th. I'm a. I'm a. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. th. to. th. to. to. to. to to th. th. th. to. th. th. th. that it's like flipping the script on a lot of those yellow movies, which can, like a lot of them have any queer characters are always portrayed as insane or they're the killer. Right. Or they have these like wild notions that can't be, yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:37 So having an entire, almost, I guess the entire cast being queer in some way or another was really interesting and a really good way to flip that on its head. And I felt like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the the th th the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th of th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the interesting and a really good way to flip that on its head. Yeah. And I felt like it was referencing without like blatantly referencing a lot of things. It felt like, there's a movie called Stage Fright by Michaela Suave that's a very, felt very similar to this about a like theater troop that gets murdered and stuff. I'll give it seven bird hands. Seven bird hands. I think you're right that that that that that that th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their th. It's tel tel. ent tel. ent tel. It was tel. tel. tel. tel. tel. It was their the the the theater troupe that gets murdered and stuff. I'll give it seven bird hands. Seven bird hands. I think you're right that the second half was so much different than the first half. I thought the second half was just hard for me to watch.
Starting point is 00:52:16 Just so much sex. It's people touching each other, Alan. They shouldn't do that. I think it didn't find its tone until the second half. No, and I'm not sure what all of that first half was even really for. Yeah. Was it just to show us that she's making? I mean, what is the, what was the purpose of all that? Again, it felt like faulty or Argento, it's like, it's fucking beautiful.
Starting point is 00:52:37 Look at this thing thing that I'm th. We did it. We did it. Happy Pride Month, everybody. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And we'll try to be better about celebrating these things. Totally. Let's find a queer horror movie that doesn't make me so, so, so likely to jump out of a window. Yeah, if you have other suggestions for stuff, we would love to hear them.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Totally. Get in touch. Would you like to go to a little place a little a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place a little place. we have gotten our first butt dial review. Ooh, tell me what it says. It says I, T, R, rest, rest, rest, really T. It's really useful. Five stars, le way. L'Way. Maybe it's like a code. Maybe it's our Q&N on. I know, I know, I know, I'm sorry. Can I read? Five stars though, I'll take a five-star butt review. I'll take it. So when, like, open the page, I'm like, oh, I need to review this podcast.
Starting point is 00:53:30 Oh, man, my ramen's done. Put it back in their back pocket. Shambudsman's fucking delicious. Indeed. theybicue. What's a Carbicue? I don't know. Okay. This is from Biker Nelson.
Starting point is 00:53:48 Hi, Biker Nelson. Five-star with you. Thank you. If you ever fantasize about being stranded on Nantucket with Razor Ramon and Glenn Danzig, Oh my God. Your personal host, Elaine in K.D. Okay, I like it. We'll get you through whatever mundane tasks that takes an hour, as if you're hanging out with your best friends. Keep up the tremendous work and thanks for the laughs. P.S., when the world is an ending, I hope to fulfill a goal of attending a MLB game in every park. Any tips for a trip to PNC? Seating section, area bars, etc. Oh, I would love to answer this. I got one, I got one, I got one, I got one, I got one, I got one,

It is one of the oldest bars in Pittsburgh and it's beautiful and as Alan corrects open a cold one, they have a great beer selection and they're very nice people. So it's off that like stadium, the stadium, the stadium people path. You'll just be in there with regular people. the, the, their, their, their, th. th. thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, the thin, thin, thin, thi, thi, thi, the thi, the, the, thease, their, thease, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thea, thea, thea, thea, theauauaua, thoauauauauauauauauaua, thoaua, thea, thea, regular people. Yeah, towns folks. Seating every seat in PNC Park is a good seat, that's not a lie, but my favorite place to sit is the left field bleachers. Because when I was in grad school, I would often just get on the bus from Oakland where the University of Pittsburgh is, take the bus to the north side, 2010 and just sit there and listen to the game on the radio and get like a nine dollar ticket and a nine dollar beer and just like have a very nice night by myself. That sounds delightful. Leftfield bleachers is a good place to sit.
Starting point is 00:55:54 I was hoping it was for the best heckling. Well they used to be called the left loonies and people got there. There was like a crew of people they did a lot of a lot of heckling sure and whip it but yeah yeah yeah every seat's a good one but go to the park house you'll like it and we will do research on what a carbecue is we must have said it or something it sounds like something we would have said sadly Katie Alan what are we doing next week the new child's play 2019 Aubrey Plaza let's do it and after you watch that movie go to the National Lawyers Guild.org. NLG.org. Donate some money to them send us the receipt via email, Facebook, whatever, get in contact us. Where wherever Alan reads your words. We've got a spreadsheet going.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Thank you to everyone who has donated. You are an unbelievably generous human beings. At the time of this recording, we have about $1,000 so far, which is incredible.
