Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 290- Chillaxin! with Jurassic Park (1993)

Episode Date: July 20, 2020

In this week's episode, we ventured into the great outdoors and recorded on Allen's front porch, so please be aware that you will hear some car noises and we also get distracted by several passersby. ...Look, it's summer, there's a pandemic, and we gotta chillax. It's okay though, because we're talking about the 1993 summer blockbuster hit "Jurassic Park." Is it a horror movie? Not really. Is it horrific? Yes, it is, who the hell wants to bring back dinosaurs? Special topics for your consideration include: menacing a child, being at one's Jeff Goldblum-iest, terrible body doubles, fantastic CGI and practical effects, not knowing much about raptors despite being obsessed with them and a little Clippy erotica. Pretty sure this is our fourth Jeff Goldblum (Episode 103- "The Fly," Episode 146- "The Sentinel" and Episode 230- "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and our third Sam Neil (Episode 125- "Event Horizon" and Episode 142- "In the Mouth of Madness") but only our first Laura Dern. Welcome to the show, Laura Dern! Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! Join us, or at least Katie (Allen's eyes don't work when it comes to Reddit) at r/werewolfambulance. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Katie. Hi Alan. I have a quick bit of information for you. At the beginning of watching my DVD of Jurassic Park, there was a PG-13 rating that said, Pg 13 because of intense science fiction terror. Whoa, that is a great description! So it's a horror movie, we can do it on the podcast. Oh good, I'm glad because I already watched it and it's long, so here we are.
Starting point is 00:00:32 It's so good. Yeah. Spoiler. the other spoilers, this is not a spoiler. We're recording outside for COVID reasons. We're on Alan's porch. We're very far apart. I feel like the at the either end of like a dining table in a fancy dining room.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Yeah. And a very cold home. But here, wait, here comes a car. Ready? I wonder where they're going. Are these people with them? So you're good to hear cars, motorcycles, skateboarders? Someone just sneezed right behind us. There th, I I I I I I th. I th. I th. I their their their. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi? I'm, tho? I'm, tho? I'm, tho? I'm, thi? I'm, thoome? I'm, thoome. thoome? Yeah, thoome. thoome. thoom? Yeah, tho. tho. tho. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. I, th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I'm. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. toea. toea. toea. toean. toea. th.. Someone just sneezed right behind us, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:01:06 There's a lot of birds in my neighborhood. Yeah, why are there's, I guess you have trees, huh? There's a lot of trees in the neighborhood. I am absolutely not going to pause for cars, so. This is not along a bus route though. No buses. No buses. Every once a while, an entire motorcycle gang goes goes goes goes goes goes goes goes goes goes goes goes goes, an entire motorcycle, an entire motorcycle, an entire motorcycle, an entire motorcycle, an entire motorcycle, an entire motorcycle, an entire motorcycle gang goes by. Yeah, that seems to happen on Wednesday nights when we record, so, wow, did the, did something just let out?
Starting point is 00:01:28 What is happening here? This feels so weird. It feels super weird. I also feel like your neighbors are looking and knowing. Yeah, everybody could see us where we are. Yeah, I might sit on the floor. Oh, anyway. So we're still in a pandemic. Yeah, At least we're in person. Yeah, I'm very excited. Get a muffler. I mean, what the fuck is that car? It's purple, whatever it is. It's got a lot of mufflers. It looked like one of those cars from a Dr. Dr. Dre video in the 90s. Yes, that's exactly what it looked like. It's rolled on six foers. Yeah. Anyway, Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park, outside recording.
Starting point is 00:02:06 We are totally two people who will get excited about a dog with a fluffy tail and stop paying attention to what we're doing. I mean, I did just watch that couple walk the entire length of your block, just wondering, where are they going? Why are they walking on the sunny side? It's so hot out. So this is going to be going to be going to be going to be going to be going to be going the episode the episode the episode the episode the episode the episode the episode th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi tho o' tho o' tho thi thi tho- tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho-a tho tho-a tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo is going to be an episode that tests you as fans of WhereWFam You know what if you don't like it? So I was a little hesitant to do Jurassic Park. I know for personal reasons. Okay. Which is that as many EMTs know, my nunna whom I was very close to passed away a couple months ago. Yes. And she god damn loved this movie. Oh, okay. We used to go see movies on Friday nights at the second run. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. th. th. th. I th. th. th. movies on Friday nights at the second run theater and Jurassic Park I remember being like a rare movie we saw in the first run because she was so excited about
Starting point is 00:02:50 it. I remember her going to the library and checking out Jurassic Park of the novel for me to read. So I remember we saw this first run and then we saw it again, second run at the cheap theater. So you would have been nine? So you would have been nine? 93? 93? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. N. I. N. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I the. I was. I was. I. I was. I the. I the. I the. I the. I. I. I. I. I. I.. I. I............................................................................................................................................................................... have been nine. Yeah. Oh, man. Nana took me to see Dick Tracy and I was like, I have no fucking idea what's happening here. Why are these guys in Happy Meals? People at 39 had no idea what was happening. Genuinely, to this day, I have no idea what that movie's about. I guess. More than baby? Yeah. People in a lot of weird face makeup. Yeah, I think she th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. I the. I the. I thee. I theeeeeeeeea. I theeea. I theeeea. I thea. I thi. I thi. I think she thought I would like that. I was pretty bored. So Jurassic Park, I just like, I have not, thanks to pandemic, not at all dealt with her death. Oh, good. Emotionally. So, you know, watching this movie, I just basically cried through most of it.
Starting point is 00:03:37 So, happy comedy podcast. We lose our loved ones because everyone dies. Boop Boop Pee-doop. Can I tell you a fun fact? Sure. I cry during this movie too. Oh God, why? You don't even have an excuse! Well, A, I am literally made out of tears. B. There's something about Sam Neal's reaction to the dinosaurs.
Starting point is 00:04:03 Oh yeah. That looking just like makes tears fall out of my face. It's so fucking pure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Another thing I like about this movie is that Sam Neal, someone's chewing up the scenery more than Sam Neal. Like there's a Sam Neal movie and he's not chewing the most scenery. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And of course it is our it is is is is is is is is is is is is is is is is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our it is our is our is our is our is our is our is our is our is our is our th. What a psychopath. What a sexy hunk in this movie. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:04:27 This is him at his Jeff Goldblumiest. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There it gets no Jeff Goldblumier than this. I was going to do a game where I took famous quotes and added ums and uzzl. to them to be Jeff Goldblum said it or Eleanor Roosevelt. You're like, um, nothing tastes as good as, uh, as skinny feels, uh, Eleanor Roosevelt. And I have to decide if that's Jeff Goldblum or Kate Moss. Uh, four score, uh, and uh... That's definitely Jeff Goldblum.
Starting point is 00:05:04 See I'm good at this. Life finds a way. He could, that line is such a powerful line. If he delivers it, like he just should his pants. This is a rare Stephen Spielberg movie with excellent dialogue. Yeah, that's true. Did he write it? No, Michael Creighton. Oh, yeah, dialogue. Yeah, that's true. Did he write it? No, Michael Creton.
Starting point is 00:05:27 Oh, yeah, okay. Did you ever read the novel? Yes. Which is very different than this. Yeah, yeah, for sure. And especially the ending. Yeah. I remember Nanna being very disappointed by the book, sorry if we were going to read it.
Starting point is 00:05:45 It's been out a really long time. I mean, Michael Gretton's been dead a really long time. True. True. I remember when I worked at a bookstore. Borders. Indeed. And somebody I worked with made fun of a customer because they called him Michael Krichton.
Starting point is 00:06:03 And I was like, who are you? How the fuck would they know? It's not like you're watching YouTube videos of him. Yeah. You know what I mean? Come on? This is the same co-worker I worked with that couldn't understand an Australian man when he said snake. How does an Australian person say snake? No, that's good. And the guy's like, what's a snike? And I just pushed him out of the way over here, sir. I really expected your answer to the question of how does an Australian person say snake to be, nooo! I don't know why it's stuck in my head that the guy was like, hey, many books on snikes? Snikes.
Starting point is 00:06:40 I mean, to be fair. America's hard. But you can't do that and also be like, Pook Christian. No, you can't. No, you can't. Yes, I have read the first two of the Jurassic Park books. Oh, I don't think I even realize there were other novels. Yeah, there's The Lost World. I thought that wasn't just a film. No, no, no. Jeff Goldblum's in that, yeah. Great. But he was not, I I I I I I I I that. Jeff. Jeff. Jeff. Jeff. Jeff. Jeff. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I have th. I have th. I have th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I that, yeah? Great. But he was not, he dies at the end of the book too. Does he? It's been, it's been like 25 years since I read that. Good summer reading. Yeah, time to pick it up. Yeah. Now you guys don't have to because I just told you the end of the end. Unless you're one of those people that likes to know the end of a book? Yeah. Let's what th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th of th. th. th. thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It thi. It thi. It thi. It thi. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's the. It's the. It's theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. It's been like like like like theeeee. It's been like like thi. It's the. th end of a book. Just to make, just, well, she doesn't get there. Yeah. Anxiety is fun. It's like how I wait till my gas tank is literally on E, like until the light is flashing to get gas,
Starting point is 00:07:32 because I figure that every day I don't get gases one day closer to my own death. So it saves money somehow. It's like a rolling period of money. money savings. Whoa, this episode is dark as fuck. Yeah, I'm sorry that I just like pulled open my chest and started shaking it around like a beach blanket of sand. Um, my nunna died and I'm not okay and I'm gonna die someday too. Hey, but you know who else dies? Who's that? Some several characters of Jurassic Park. Hello, Newman. God, I fucking love Wayne Night though. Okay, that sound wrong coming off my though. He's so good. Wayne Night?
Starting point is 00:08:05 Okay, that sound wrong coming off my time. It does, because he's only Newman. Yeah, he's just such a delight. Dennis Nedry. I would be so disappointed to find out that he was a bad person. Right, right. You can't play bad people that much in TV and movies and also be a bad person. Agree. So this scene the scene, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th is th is th is th is thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thii. thiiiiii. thiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, movie opens on with the Raptor pen, it's very scary. I had no memory of this scene.
Starting point is 00:08:28 And when the guy gets pulled to the top of the pen, it is so scary. This movie is such a testament for being the movie that like put CGI on the fucking map. Yeah, it's beautiful. I can't believe how good it is. I know, for sure. This movie is also like a love letter to practical effects. Absolutely. There are a lot of very good practical effects in this movie. I love it because it partially looks like an amusement park ride the whole time. In what way? Everything is obviously fabricated to be part of this movie. Okay, yeah, yeah. Like all the pens and all of that stuff are made, you know.
Starting point is 00:09:02 And it just, it has like, I understand why they opened a Jurassic Park theme park. Oh, is there a Jurassic Park theme park? Yeah, I don't know, and probably not anymore. It was. Yeah, probably, stop driving down the street. You just looked at them so angrily like they had no right to be there. You know what the problem with handheld mics is I I I I I I the hand, the hand, the the the the the the the the the the the the the problem with handheld mics is, I don't know how I'm going to open this beer. Oh, when we pause you put the John down? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:09:26 I'm going to do it with one hand. Just jingling my keys, mix for good radio, you're going to edit that, I'm sure. I like that I'm sitting in front of this open window and now the air conditioning is pouring out of it. you had plugged in. Oh my god. Your father right now just somewhere is like, who's touching the thermostat? Boy, this is tough. Why didn't you just put the microphone down? I don't want it to make a bumping sound. I'm gonna edit this. Oh, I almost got it. No, you're not. Oh, I got it. We're gonna call this episode episode Chalaxon with Jurassic Park. I love that and that is what I'm going to put in the title. You know what, at this point we've earned their loyalty.
Starting point is 00:10:12 I always wonder if there's people who are just like, well there are. We know there are. There are people like, episode 287 is where I'm going to pick this up. Yeah, and they're like, who are these fucking maniacs? And why are they just talking about the movie? What movie are they doing? And they haven't spoken about it at all. Okay, okay, okay. No, no, because I was gonna say for this movie, I feel like we can just talk about shit that I love right off the bat? But pal, do it. Okay, I love when Janaro, the lawyer, gets off the boat, they're just like pulling him in on a raft,
Starting point is 00:10:50 which I, number one, fucking love. Yeah, yeah. And he's talking to the like, the main, Hammond hates inspections, maniacs. And he's like, ah, Hammond's fucking raising raptors. Of course he hates inspections, maniacs. What office would Hammond get in the Trump administration? Because this dude is definitely like flouting enough laws that you'd be part of. Oh, he's head of the EPA, in my opinion. What do you think?
Starting point is 00:11:16 Oh yeah, for sure. For our international listeners, that's the environmental protection agency. Oh, there's that purple car again. It's is is is is is dope is dope is dope is dope is dope is that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. tho. thoom. thoom. thoom. that's a tho-a. thoom. thoom. thoom. thoom. thoom. thoom. thoom. thoom. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. tho-a. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. that's-a. that's-a. that's-a. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. Yeah, it's dope as fuck. It is dope as fuck. Is that your neighbor? You know that person? No. It's just a person who drives by. On the regular.
Starting point is 00:11:30 There are car clubs that meet in the park. Oh, that makes sense. Yeah. And the second thing I love that it's like, Alan, he immediately is touching her butt. Oh, wouldn't you be? I mean, yeah. But I just love that it's like, a handful of butts. I love, I love their chemistry. I think their chemistry is palpable. Very cute, the two of them.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Laura Dern is a treasure. I think I've spoken about this before, because you know my thing where I can't tell Laura Dern and Helen Hunt apart. Can we throw Laura Linney in there as well? I think that's where it all started. Yeah, I think so. But I think they're just offshoots of Laura Linie, Helen Hunt, and Laura Dern. I feel like the older I get, the more attractive I find Laura Dern. That's, yeah, she's got a handsome face, which I don't mean in an unkind way. No, no, she's a beautiful and like, fucking charismatic is all get out.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Absolutely. And the jeans she's wearing in this movie are right the fuck back in style. They're high-waisted, like, short-legged. They look great. She looks great. I was looking at her and I was like, this movies from 1993, get over yourself. Her hair when not in a ponytail. Oof! So ridiculously weird looking. So fluffy. She looks like a poodle. I think it was only cut like that because that's the wig they had for the guy who will be doing her running shots later on in the movie who looks
Starting point is 00:12:58 like MacGyver running through everything. The body doubles in this movie are not great. Like the little girl, her body double is clearly like a 25-year-old curvacious woman. She's got like a ba-donk. And you're like, that child is 12. She's doing squats. Yeah. And she's got this like, she's wearing those high-waisted jeans,
Starting point is 00:13:17 which the child is also wearing. But they're just like hugging, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, their, their, their, th...... their, their, their, th.. their, th. their, their, their, their, their, like, like hips and butt and you're like, oh no, that is not Lex. Yeah, there's something like, I think, I feel like in another situation, that little tushy squeeze would be like, what are you doing buddy? But in this it's like, oh yeah, cool sure. Yeah. Yeah. Also the fact that it's right before he literally makes a kid pisses pants. Yeah. I like how that kid's like that doesn't look very scary and it's like yes it does you little shit like this is the difference between Dr. Alan Grant and me is that he goes into this like very careful even-voiced
Starting point is 00:13:54 monologue about how this thing will tear you to shreds and I'm like you little shit I will murder you. My reaction as a 46 year old man is the fuck is that kid doing on this dig? Honestly, is he someone's child or did he just wander in from the Badlands neighborhood? Like, there's nobody else his age. Nope, but who are the other people who are like laughing and applauding? They're just the other dig peeps.
Starting point is 00:14:16 I see. He's this archetypal 80s, fat kid jerk. He's chunk from the gu gunies, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's wearing the chunk shirt, like the Hawaiian print button down. Or someone who would have been mean to Smalls and the Sandline. Oh God, I love that fucking movie so much. You know I do. I know you do. It's baseball. You know what though, I have to say that menacing a child. the child. So he's definitely menacing that child that child that child that child that child that child the child, the child, the child, the child, the child, the child, the child, the child, their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. their, th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, their, their, their, their, their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. te, te, te, te. te. te. te. te. te. te. teuu. teu. tu. tu. tu. tu. tu. tu. tu. tu. deserve it. Nope. So he's definitely menacing that child because he acts like he's going to cut him across his peeper with that raptor claw. He basically pulls a knife on the kid and he's like, he'd stick it here, pull it up here,
Starting point is 00:14:54 and then everything on the inside falls out. And I was like, Alan Grant. He's a child. I like how Ellie is like, if you wanted to scare him, you could have just pulled a gun on him. Very funny. Very adorable. Oh man, she's great. She is great. So then they find Hammond in their trailer, drinking their champagne. As the note I have, Richard fucking Attenborough.
Starting point is 00:15:18 He like that guy. So one of my most like, cis-hetero male things about me is that I fucking adore the movie The Great Escape. Oh, that was his big thing, yeah. That is big Richard Attenborough. So, tell me about that movie. I don't know anything about it. It's just about a bunch of troops that are captured by the Germans and they escape from German and German camp. But it's like, it's Lee Marvin and Steve and Steve, it, it, and Steve, and Steve, and Steve, and, and, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. Attenborough. It's like, old dudes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:46 Famous old dudes that were like at the top of their game. Uh, Donald Pleasants. I love Donald Pleasants at drunk maniac. Get the fuck away from that house, your kids. Puma man. Oh, how late you're a Donald Pleasants. Oh, yeah. I mean, didn't get any better for him, no, no, the the th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, how late you're a Donald Plozons. Yeah, oh yeah. I mean, it didn't get any better for him, no.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I like how Richard Attenborough is like, I'm giving you $50,000 a year and it's like, what is that possibly funding? That didn't even get them their tickets here. Wow. I will fund your dig for the next three years. All they have to do is tho tho tho tho tho tho tho th years. All they have to do is go away for a weekend. Like that is really not a big deal. No, no, no, no for sure. I have a question for you. Tell me. You would have been nine years old when this movie came out. Yeah. You would be knee-deep in dinosaurs as a nine-year-old. Was the idea that birds
Starting point is 00:16:36 evolved from dinosaurs still like a fresh idea at that point? I don't remember. I don't know because I thi the th. th. th. the th. th. the the to to to be the to be the to be the the the thi. I've to be the to be the thi. I've the to be thi. I've to be the th. I've the the thi. I'm't know because watching this movie as an adult I was like huh I have no memory of this. Yeah but to be fair I've never been very big on dinosaurs. Oh okay. I always found them very frightening and I was always super glad I didn't live at the same time as them and I just thought well that's cool but that's for someone else. I love that idea that like someone who's real in the science and we should get into how not into science. to science. to the science. to the science. the science. I I the science. I I the science. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. I'm th. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm thi. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I's. I's. I's. I'm to to to thi. not into science the scientists are in this movie. Yeah. But that would be like, huh, I'm gonna bring back dinosaurs. Yeah, right? It's just like there's no ethics. Right. And that's and that's the argument of our scientists who are into science. Sure, we're sure. Although I cannot figure out which of Gullom science is I so thia thi. th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, thi, thi, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, I'm thii, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm so sorry. He's a chaos tisi-tician. Is that a real thing? Chaos and mathematics? I think so. Or at least it was in 93. I bet it's like been enveloped into quantum physics at this point. Sure. That makes sense. Him as a
Starting point is 00:17:35 mathematician. Like he's somewhat believable in the fly as like this rogue geneticist or whatever he's doing. But he's also costumed that way. Yeah in this movie he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, thi thi thi th th th th the the th the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I's like, I's like, I's like, th. I's like, thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. I's like, thi. I's like, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. I'm thi. I'm thi. I thi. I thi's th fly as like this rogue geneticist or whatever he's doing. But he's also costumed that way. Yeah, in this movie he's like, ah, we're gonna make you look like, oh, I don't know, a cool dad. Very cool dad. But like, not the kind, like as a mom now that has to go to children's events, if I see that dad at a event, I'm standing on the other side. Right, because he's going to be roofing coolade. He's just going to be weird, and I don't want to talk to him. It's the transition lenses, not a good look.
Starting point is 00:18:09 But so he's wearing all black, black jeans, black buttoned, black buttoned, which is buttoned and not buttoned at various points in the film. Right, there's definitely nipple. definitely on buttons his shirt because it was buttoned and then they find him and it's unbuttoned and a leather jacket despite the fact that it is Costa Rica. I work with a guy who when he was leaving today put on his leather jacket and I was just like, what are you doing? The high today in Pittsburgh was 92 and the feels like hit a hundred. So one of my favorite Jeff Gold moments in this movie is when they're on the helicopter to Jurassic Park and he does that like, huh, how, ha, ha, giggle because there is a YouTube loop of it where it just plays that giggle for an hour which I've definitely watched for
Starting point is 00:18:53 at least like a quarter of it. Hull, ho! What a treasure! A disgusting, horrible treasure! Have you ever seen the meme of Jeff Goldblum laying back after he's been injured with his shirt fully undone? That scene, oh God. And someone took Sam Neal when he's laying on the triceratops, let's see if he's just breathed and they transposed him onto Jeff Goldstein. That's beautiful. Sam Neal just flexed on it. That's beautiful. transposed him onto Jeff Goldblum's tell me what's their making rise up in town with Jeff
Starting point is 00:19:25 Irwin. That's beautiful. Sam Neal just flex it on it. That's beautiful. It's so funny because it makes a little like a giant Jeff Goldblum. I love that. Oh, you guys like what I explained memes to you? No, I, this is the second meme Alan's explained to me since I got here, which which, which, which, which, which, which, which is th, which, which is th, which is th, which is th th th th th th th th th th th th thi, which is thi, thi, to to to to to to to to to to to to me since I got here, which is good. The first one involved Harvey Danger, which I liked a lot. Oh, Manix, I'm like, I'm two minutes away from being your aunt emailing you memes. Yeah, I'm ready for it though. I'm prepared.
Starting point is 00:19:56 So when the helicopter is flying to the island, and the score kicks in? God, that's a fucking great score. I forgot how good it was. It is literally the definition of sweeping. Yeah. I mean, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm th. I'm th. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm th. I'm like, I'm th. I'm th. I'm like, I'm th. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I great score. I forgot how good it was. It is literally the definition of sweeping. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it's John Williams and John Williams, out John Williams is anybody. I mean, he's the Olympic theme song. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. He's jaws and Star Wars and... Oh, okay. He's so good at like doing that thing where he introduces a theme and then thro the music he's just gonna be like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, yeah, yeah, like, like, like, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, theme and then throughout the like rest of the music he's just gonna be like remember this? And he just like throws it in a little bit like hey I know what that is. I know that song. I remember when I was in like fifth grade concert band we had to do the Jurassic Park theme song for concert and it was real real real shitty because it was a bunch of 10 year olds playing it on like, you know, borrowed instruments.
Starting point is 00:20:45 And I remember even then thinking, this is not good. You didn't think we killed it? No, I did not. And then watching the movie now, I was like, damn, that's good. Oh, he did it better. Oh, yeah. He definitely did. Definitely dead. Definitely dead. The idea of taking a helicopter and flying out over the ocean makes me want to vomit.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yeah, watching this movie I was like, I'll probably never get in a helicopter. Unless it's like a rescue mission a la the end of crawl. You know? I just don't think there's a reason for them. No. I mean, I realize they're like medical reasons for them. But I just don't think for... Come on, helicopter enthusiast out there. There's medical emergency. Absolutely. Rich person got to get to a football game.
Starting point is 00:21:29 I hate it. Comedian has to get to a concert. And I've like there's a lot of like Eddie Murphy being dropped off in an arena so he can make with the yuck-yucks. Do you think it's uncool to not tell someone to expect dinosaurs? Do you think it's uncool to be sprung, have dinosaurs sprung on you? So Richard Attenborough, what is it, John Hammond? Uh-huh. John Ham? Uh-huh. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Absolutely. He's a shit. Absolutely. Later in the movie when he says to Muldoon, Can you please take a gas jeep and go and go go go go go go go go go go and go go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go and go to go to go to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to to to to the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to when he says to Muldoon, can you please take a gas jeep and go get my grandchildren? I'd be like, fuck you, I'm out, no way. You suck. You're the worst. Listen, I just put my grandkids in a live fire situation. Do you mind running out there and grab? No. Could you just handle this for me? I'm eating ice cream. Yeah. I'm of two minds. Because I feel like you should be warned. Yeah. That there will be tons and tons of giant reptiles running around.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Sam Neal grabbing Lord Durant's head and turning her towards the dinosaurs. Yeah. Come on. I love how they both rip their sunglasses off. Yeah. Such a good look. I love even in, on shitty old school DVD watching it and those Brontasores look fucking amazing. Oh yeah, I love them so much. I mean the whole thing looks amazing. Yeah, it's stunning what they were able to do. Yeah I think they did a
Starting point is 00:22:54 really smart thing of integrating the animatronics with the CGI. See I almost can't tell where one stops and the other begins. There you go. Yeah and at times it felt like they were almost like they were almost like they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were they were the they were they were the they were they were the they were th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho tho. tho. tho. tho. I tho. I tho. I tho. I tho. I thoes. I thoes. I thoosososososos. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. And at times it felt like they were almost like stop motioning some of them as well. Yeah, yeah, you can kind of tell that where the animation kicks in. Yeah. Speaking of animations, can we talk about? And how Mr. DNA is just so clearly. And I genuinely don't know what came first, Mr. DNA or Clippy. Probably Mr. DNA. Probably. Yeah, do you think a lot of our listeners don't know who Clippy is? I don't know. You guys know who Clippy is it?
Starting point is 00:23:29 I don't know. You guys know who Clippy is exi-Clippy? You guys know what? I don't think Clippy has existed since Windows 98? But I did see a meme the other day? Yeah, I know, you're like, Clibby saying? Is still still still still still still still still still still still still still still? Is is? Is is still? Is is still? Is still? Is still? Is still? Is still? Is still? Is still? Is still? Is still? Is. Is. Is. Is, is still? Is, is still? Is, is still? Is, is still? Is, is still? Is, is still? Is, is, is, is still? Is, still? Is, still, is, is, is, is, is still? Do, is, is still? Do, is still? Do, is still? Do, is, still? Do, still? Do, still? Is, still? Is, still? Is, still? Is, still? Is, still? Is, still? Is, still? Is, do? the? the? the, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do? the? the, do? the? the? Windows 98, but I did see a meme the other day That was like Clibby saying it seems like you're doom scrolling. Would you like me to shut off your Wi-Fi? Do you like me to shut Clippy? Do they sound like that? It's funny because the listeners are going to be able to tell that I said I'd fuck Clippy? Where did you're so far away from. Do they sound like that? It's funny because the listeners are going to be able to tell that I said, I'd fuck Clippy, but you're so far away from me right now, you're not sure. I'd fuck Clippy. Yeah, would. Cli-I'd know. Dino DNA.
Starting point is 00:24:15 D-n-D-In-D-I'm the-I'r-I. yelling, Dino DNA! Why is he southern? I feel like when he's like, oh yeah we got Derbity Durp to do the voice on this, like I felt like it was a Bugs Bunny cartoon with her like, oh look it's fucking Peter Lorry. And like kids are just like, what? What? What? What? I have no idea who the person was that they had now? No? Do you remember that seeming so realistic? They're like, yeah. Do that's. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do that. Do? that. Do? that. Do that? that. Do that? that? that? that. Do that? that? th. Do that? th. Do th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. th. th. thi. th. th. th. the the the th. the th. th. th. th seeming so realistic they're like, oh yeah, there's blood in the mosquitoes and mosquitoes and the amber, that's dinosaurs. Yeah, yeah, for sure. That felt so real. Yeah. And I love how much it feels like a Disney World attraction as well,
Starting point is 00:24:53 like an Epcot Center type fan. I've never been to a Disney. Oh, okay. Yeah, I probably never will. At the beginning of Disney movies, you know, they show that the castle, and Lucy said to me the other day, Daddy says, he gonna take me there. And I was like, fuck! What do you mean I have to go to the happiest place on earth? It's not. I'm sure. I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:25:15 Especially that when you're 16 and trying to sneak off and smoke cigarettes. Yeah, that does not seem like like the place like the place like the place like the place like the place like the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the ta., ta., ta.a.a. ta.a.a.a.a.a.a. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. to ta. ta. took me, my sister and I when I was 16 and she was 22. Yeah. Because that's when they could afford to do it. Yeah. Yeah, not the, not the happiest place on her. No, that's a weird time in your life to go with your parents and your 22 year old sister. There is a really great picture of me at, um, oh fuck, what's a medieval times? Yeah, I love medieval times though. I do fucking love medieval times. And I'm wearing the medieval times crown, a Punisher t-shirt and a pair of knockoff jams.
Starting point is 00:25:51 Dope. And Oakley Blade glasses. Of course you are. Because it is 1990. Yeah, a good year. Good year for some. I was in 10th grade, not a good time. Well, I'll tell you what, the place you're going to in Maryland is very close to the, uh, to the uh, to the Maryland medieval times. I feel like it's not as fun if you're a vegetarian, because you can't eat the... No, there's a vegetarian meal. Oh, is there? Yeah, we went there a couple a couple a couple a couple a couple a couple a couple a couple a couple a couple a tap a tha tha tha tha tha the the the the tha the the the tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha tha the place tha tha thea thea thea tha place place place place place place place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the place the the ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta ta ta ta ta ta ta ta. ta. times to to an extreme degree
Starting point is 00:26:26 Let's see another thing that I really love is when Lord Dern is not afraid to go shoulder deep in some dinoship yeah she reaches a fuck in there she's the best she is the best I also really like the character of Muldoon Yeah, the like the great white hunter, you know. He has the biggest quads I've ever seen outside of a soccer game or a rugby game. How is that dude so fit? Because he's got to go chase down all those Raptors. I guess so.
Starting point is 00:26:53 I love Muldoon. So this kid's into, talking about Muldoon gets into something that them not doing. that tie pack hunters. You know, for all the time he spent with raptors, you'd think they wouldn't get him at the end. You'd think he would have known. He'd be the one guy. Yeah, he's obsessed with raptors. He's obsessed with them. So, as Katie mentioned earlier, they make the dinosaurs through the blood from a mosquito, and they fill in the DNA with frog DNA. Dino DNA. And as we know, frogs can change, some frogs can change their sex.
Starting point is 00:27:30 Right. As we learn later on in the movie. That should be a base thing for a scientist who does genetic testing and all that jazz to know. Like I'm disappointed in B.D. Wong for not knowing that. You know, like what the fuck is, first of all, he's a baby in this movie. He's a tiny tiny baby. He was B. It. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I the the th. I the the the the. I th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. that. You know? Like what the fuck is, first of all, he's a baby in this movie. He's a teeny tiny baby. He was baby young. Baby Wong. Yeah. Yeah, baby won. the baby won.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Baby Wong. Baby Wong. But like, he's just like, oh yeah, frogs. the today. the he's doing, which is disappointing because he should really see this as hubris. Yeah, it occurs to me recently that all of our movies are about hubris in some level or another. Since the Titanic episode, it's all been downhill. Yep, on the hubris. I mean, it's a common theme in horror movies.
Starting point is 00:28:22 Absolutely. And, uh, science fiction terror movies. Sure. But yeah, I love that he doesn't know that some frogs can do that. No. What? Maybe he knows or just doesn't put it together? Like, why didn't you consider? Dog, I know that?
Starting point is 00:28:37 I know that? There's no way we won't get a return to the Mac on this recording at some point. I would love that. That's a dope song. I know. That's a song in the 90s. It's very good. Too many choruses, but they all had that in the 90s.
Starting point is 00:28:52 It was a problem. Hey, got a minute on the dance lawyer. their dance lawyer. Beedie Wong, you went to school. Do you ever driverless cars seeming totally insane when this happened? And now you're like, they just drive around our city all the time. And they weren't even driving, they were just like the amusement park cars that are on a track. Yeah, which then actually kind of bothered me that he didn't like, Hammond makes a big deal of sparing no expense for all these things, right? But like, if you really wanted people to get a good look at the dinosaurs, you're not going to pick a Ford Explorer.
Starting point is 00:29:27 You're going to get like a tram made with plexiglass so they can look the whole, like I have a, you know, at least a 180 view or something. Double-decker bus, right? So you get like the high up. It's just a very dumb idea to have, to have, to have, to have, that is big on natural habitat? So I went to the Toronto Zoo a thousand years ago and they are big on natural habitat and often you did not see the animal you were trying to see. Really? Because yeah they're gonna go just hang out in a tree where you can't see them. Which is fine you would rather the animal have a nice life than be like the the the the the the animal. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I. I. I. I. I the the the the the th. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I the the th. I the the have a nice life than be like, hey, how are you guys doing? I'm a merangitan. I know.
Starting point is 00:30:06 I mean, animals and captivity is a very controversial subject. Yeah, I mean, I still think about the, uh, Calvin and Hobbs, like, Calvin saying Hobbs, do you want to go to a zoo? And Hobbs being like, yeah, yeah, and afterwards, we're going to go to a jail. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, the. Oh, that Pittsburgh joke, you know, if you're good or if you're bad. Can't come after your hometown like that. You expect them to like you? No. I expect you to like them. No, either. I don't want them to like me either. Just as long as he doesn't turn to the Dilbert dude. Oh, God, fuck that guy though. Oh, what a son of bitch. So tell me something else do you like about this movie? I like how, like throughout parts of the movie Hammond seems like he might be a serial killer. Like he's just suddenly like staring at them wildly, like staring at the scientists wildly,
Starting point is 00:30:59 he just is a crazy person. He's definitely a sociopath. Yeah, absolutely. Just the idea that you you would bring your kid, your grandkids there. He felt so confident that it was safe. Or he didn't care about them. Their mom's getting divorced, it's fine. At the end of this moving, those kids are Sam Neels now, right? Yeah, they belong to the two of them. Yeah, okay. Yeah. They warm up to him so quickly. Wouldn't you? No.
Starting point is 00:31:29 Oh no. I never have. What about when he's walking around all, hop, hop, hop, hop, up in Event Horizon? Event Horizon, yeah. This is our third Sam theaulis? Eventhorizon and mouth of madness and this? Yeah, second Sam Jackson. I totally forgot he was in this movie. What else has he been in that we've done? Deep is Bluest! Oh my god, right. He's delivering that big speech when he gets snapped by a shark. I loved that. He dies in this
Starting point is 00:31:53 too, at the hands of an animal. So shockingly not on screen. No, I feel like he deserved better. Yeah, but I also think this movie thoing this movie of being for children because it is PG-13 but it was absolutely a film marketed to children. Toys and video games and you know. Yeah I mean it's there's a there's a like all good Spielberg movies there is a sense of wonder to everything about this. Like even like an Indiana Jones there's like a wonder to those movies. I definitely should not have seen Indiana Jones at the age that I did. You know what I mean? I remember seeing Temple of Doom when I was a tiny child. Yeah. And then being like, why are they pulling that man?
Starting point is 00:32:32 Like, I remember the first time I saw that man's heart be pulled out and how I felt. Um numshaba. when they're talking about the dinosaurs that they have and they're like, the Dippal Aposorpus. It's, we didn't realize that they spit poison. How the fuck you didn't know? But they kept them. Yeah, right. They had the opportunity to be like, nope, extinct again. Because that's really a hazard because they're not behind glass.
Starting point is 00:33:01 They're behind fences. Spits. Sp th th th th th th th th th the idea. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thoer. thoer. thoer. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. You're only willing to play God on this side of it. I know. I'll bring him in a life that you know. And they have 15 species it seems like they could part with one. Yeah. The poison spitting one. Although when it spits the poison at Newman, that is terrifying. I think that is such a great scene. I think that is such a great scene. And it does the Jesus Lizard thing of like flapping out. It's like side flap so its heads real big and goes, yeah. What does Jesus Liz- Is that a kind of lizard? Yeah, the ones that can run on water? Oh, I just thought about the band? Sure, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I, thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I th, I th, I th, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, I thin, thin, thin, thin, th is thin, th is such thin, th is such that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi the band. Sure, sure, sure, sure. They can run on water? Yeah, for like short distances, yeah. I mean I can't too for like a really short distance. One step. Speaking of pools, can I get a news flash sound? I saw Tom Savinni the
Starting point is 00:33:57 the other day riding his bike again. I think it's what he's doing during the sideline. This time he was on the street not on the street. I I I the th. I I th. I. I. I. I. Did you give him a head on or anything? I did. I said hello. He said hello. Nice. I think he knows me as his neighbor, but not as the person who stalks him on the internet. Can you am I talking about you all have to. Oh, the wrong way. I love how much of a bike cop you are. I just think, no, I'm not a bike cop. I just think that everybody needs to obey which direction the street goes. And I just don't think you should ride a bike on the sidewalk unless you're a child. It's just not safe for anybody. Sure. Sure. Especially when you're trying to cross the street riding your bike. That's really safe for everybody. And I. And th. And the. And th. And the. And the. And to. And the. Starting point is 00:34:47 that, you got to get off and walk it. Got to get off and walk it. Absolutely. Anyway, I'm always on the lookout for a future ex-Mrs. Malcolm. Are you married? Not currently. I like that he says he has three children and I just thought, what kind of dad are you? I? I? I? I? I to. I to. Absentee? No, no. I love that he meets Ellie. Yeah. Laura Dern and his immediately like, you fuck? You fuck?
Starting point is 00:35:17 He's like, huh? You uh, you fuck? You want to do this right now? You're gonna fuck on this helicopter? She's like, oh, you fuck? Yeah. You want to do this right now? You're gonna fuck on this helicopter? She's like, oh, for Christ's sake. Maybe. He is irresistible. Because she does like, she's like, ugh,
Starting point is 00:35:33 and then turns away and blushes. Yeah. I mean, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Can we talk about the children a little. I don't want to be mean about children. Okay. You know that's a thing I don't like to do. I have a feeling you might be. I might be. The little boy is excellent. Yeah, I think. And I've seen him in two other films in which he is excellent. But he's always like a very, very, very, very, that. thrown. thr. thr. thr. I love her. thi. thi is is is is is is is i is i i i is i i is i i i is i i. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I have thi. I have a thi. I have a little. I have a th. She makes that face Yeah, and then she's gonna make that face for the next hour and a half the girl child is making the face
Starting point is 00:36:16 Have you seen the t-shirt that says the beasting boys check your friend and it's uh McCulloch and my girl. No, I have not. Three dozen bee sticks. I know. It makes me laugh. Why are you telling me about this? Because the little kid who is always sick and dying always makes me think of McCulloch yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Yeah, he was very sick and dying in that film. Their relationship reminds me a lot of the gate with the brother and sister in that movie. It was, that was a great movie. Baby Stephen Dorf. Baby Stephen Dorf. Yeah, I mean, she's kind of a one-note. Vapin' is his baby. Is he think you still vaping or if she just like...
Starting point is 00:36:54 I hope he gave it up. I hope he gave it up. Yeah, I mean, she's kind of a one note. Yeah, and I can't tell if they just didn't give her much to work with or if she just like... The emphasis was on Tim, for sure. Yeah, he's so charismatic that little boy. He's in this movie called The Cure with I believe Brad Renfro who is now dead where he is like an AIDS patient, but it's like this joke where he'll pretend to be dead and scare all the nurses and doctors and then he'll wake up and then at the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. tho. the's the's the's in the's in tho. th. He's is the is the is the is the is so so so the is so the to te te ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttoye is so so c. toye doctors and then he'll wake up and then at the end of the movie he doesn't wake up. And then he's in this movie called Radio Flyer where he's being beaten to mercilessly by his stepfather and he builds a plane out of a wagon and flies away. It's just like what happened to this kid in the 90s? He's had a really rough go of things. I hope he was able to sink all that money into a startup that did really well. I hope so. I hope so. Because he's the one who has to be, Tim has to be saved all the time.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Right, he's a very little. And he gets stuck in when the T-Rex flips the Jeep over. He's the one who's stuck in it. Right, right. I absolutely adore them having to run down the tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree tree the the the the the the the t down the tree after he gets him out. That is so good. Yes. A lot of the running away is very, very, very good in this movie.
Starting point is 00:38:11 And you can also tell that like those running away from the stampede were definitely replicated in the Nintendo game, which I never played but I'm sure existed. I'm sure those were the hardest parts of it. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like that scene where they're running away from the stampede, I was like, oh, this is definitely in the video game. Yeah. You know. I want to say the Jurassic Bark, like, in Universal Studios or whatever it was, it was like an action show. Oh, okay. But I might be mixing that up with like Indiana Jones or something, but yeah. Yeah, I want to say that there was a lot of escaping there there there the the the the the the the the the the the the tha tha tha tha thus escaping thus escaping the the the thus thi thi thi thi. It was a lot thi. It was a lot thi. It was a lot thi. Yeah, thea' thea' thea' the. Yeah, like thi. Yeah, like thi. Yeah, like thi. Yeah, like their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi. I was a lot. I was a lot. thi. I was a lot. I was a lot. thi. thi. I was a lot. the. I was a lot. I was a lot. thea. thrusea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thethat like the practical effect of that truck being lowered down on them as it's falling. Yeah, it looks great. It looks very dangerous. Like so fucking dangerous. Yeah, even like, even the things of like Sam Neal carrying Lex down that giant wall on his back and like them swinging to grab the rope and... Well, that's when it's a 25-year-old woman,
Starting point is 00:39:00 with her bidong. That's not's not Sam Neal holding her either. No. There's a scene later on where Laura Turn has to run and she's running and jumping over things. And it's just like, it's like Schwarzenegger with her wig on. Yeah, and they just shaved his legs. Like the legs are super smooth, wearing some cargo shorts and going for it. It's so funny, because they're doing like flips and shit.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Yeah, it's so funny because they this movie must have cost a Brazilian dollars to make and they were like body doubles. Yeah, these will do and it's just like a bunch of dudes smoking cigarettes. One very curvacious woman. Yeah, I'm playing a 12-year-old. I have the note where they're going into the park for the first time and there's those giant gates and I'm like, oh, those look like King Kong. Jeff Colblum immediately goes, what, is it, King Kong? I know, I love it. I feel like he adlibed that and was not meant to say it. And also he's so right. It's a very King Kong decor. Sure, yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:40:10 I want to talk about the shaking of the water. Oh, so good. Okay, so it's been much parodied, right? Oh, for sure. And when I saw it in this movie for the first time, I was like, oh God, that's such a good mechanic. But then they do it like three more times. You're like, no, no, no, I get it. Now I see why we were making fun of this. It's the band that puts too many mosh parts in their songs.
Starting point is 00:40:32 Yep. Absolutely. You're like, the first just like Tim looking at the cup and it's going Yeah. Yeah. So good. And then later when it's a thing of jello you're like I know. Or when it's a puddle. Yeah, I know. Because at that point they explained it to you and you're like no, no, I got it the first time. Because Jeff Goldblub is like it's the impact vibrations. And you're like yes I was I was there for the first time. So we've touched on Wayne Knight. Wing night? Wayne, oh, Wayne Knight.
Starting point is 00:41:10 We're having Wing Night. We are very far away from one another. I should have worn headphones. I don't think I have long enough headphones to get to. Wayne Night when he is, we first meet him and he is eating at this little restaurant. And he meets with this dude who's pretending to be a spy, basically. Dodgson. Dodgson, we got Dodgson over here.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Nobody cares. He's so fucking good in that scene. Oh, he's so fantastic. When he gets handed the thing of Barbassol that he could unscrew, and he, and he, and he, and he, and he goes, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, and he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, th., he's thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.einging.eing. Hea. Hea''a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a, thi, thi, thi, thi, that scene. He's so fantastic. When he gets handed the thing of Barbasol that he can unscrew and put the... and he goes, ha ha! He's laughing so hard. He is just such an ultimate like pest, you know? Sure. Absolutely pest. There's so many things towards the end of this movie where you're like, wait, what? Yeah. Like how they were still building the visitor center, like when we see the end of this movie where you're like, wait, what? Yeah. Like how they were still building the visitor center, like when we see the visitor center, they're literally like laying bricks outside it, but the gift shop is fully stocked.
Starting point is 00:42:10 And Ellie's like, Malcolm's okay, I give him a shot of morphine. And I was like, the fuck did you get a shot of morphine? She's always just got one. I mean, maybe the vets had one, I guess, but do you give animals morphine? I don't know. What do you give a triceratops when it's sick? I don't know. Stick your hand in his mouth because that's what she does. Her affection for that triceratops and then immediately being able to diagnose it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:39 But she also just puts her hand right in its mouth. I do not thinn't their the fuck in its mouth. I do not think I would. I wouldn't even put my hand in Glenn's mouth and he's my cat. You're not going to put your hand inside that horse's mouth. I hope not. anywhere near its teeth. Also, I'm gonna eat them ginger snaps. Yeah, oh wait, like you think I'm gonna drive to Canonsburg with ginger snaps? They're either gonna be dust at the bottom of my bag or I'm gonna have eaten them. And then I'm gonna have dust on my hands and then it's gonna bite th one th one th one th one th one th one th one th one the the the the the the the the the thin thin thin thin' thin' thin' thin' the the the the the' the' thin' thin' theat's the' the' they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's gonna they's gonna they's gonna they's gonna they're thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' to an untrained eye, which I assume horses are. I'm so scared, if it's not clear. How did you feel about Sam Jackson's arm being found? I loved that. Although I like that she like got the arm, the arm starts touching her,
Starting point is 00:43:40 and she's like, oh, Mr. Andrews or whatever his name is, thank you, but it's just touching her boob over the top? Like, you would you you you you you you you you you you you th you th you would th you th you would th you would th you would th you would th you would th you would th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho, I like, I like, I'd tho, tho- like, tho-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-s, I'm, I'm, I's, I th. You'd be like, whoa! And it's obviously just like a foam arm. Yeah. It's not like you would get hit with him and be like, oh well that's a human. That's a human. That's a human caressing me, no. That's old. That's old, that's old, that's old, that's old, that's old, that's old, that's old, the that's the that's the that's the that's th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. th this movie. For sure. I feel like he did not get enough screen time. He also had so much hair in this movie. Yeah. Oh man, he's so good. How did you feel about a child getting blown off an electric fence? Fuck it loved it. Especially... That was very close to return of the Mac. That time was driving with a pug in his lap? I did see that. The pug looked right at us. He got podcasting! Can I be again? You pug? You should do lubricon! Someday, pug, someday. Oh, what are we talking about? I don't know. Oh, the key getting blown off the fence and how hysterical it is. Oh, yeah, and that is hair sticking straight up.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Yeah, and he goes, three. Oh my god, you're so clever even in the best of times. Clever, girl. Also, all of them could have fit through the fence. Oh, I know. Why did they have they have to climb. I don't know. Tenth scene though. Very tense scene because she opens the circuit box and then all of a sudden danger music starts playing which is very funny in it of itself a person opening just like a basic circuit box and then danger music playing. I love that she like primes the pump and then they're
Starting point is 00:45:16 like no and then they show you just the row of buttons of things she has to turn on and the second to last last last last last last last last last last last last last the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to. to to to to to to. to to to to to to to. to to to. to to to to to to to to. to to to to. to to. to. to to to to. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to. to to to to to th. th. the. the. the the the the the the the the. the the the the. the the. the the. the. the. toe. toe. toe. toe. to to to the. to turn on and the second to last one is the fence that they're on. And also, like, there just switches to flip at this point. They're just basically circuits. And she's like, ah, like very slowly, very deliberately. And each one is matching a step of them going up and over the fence. Right. It is very, it's a very good scene. It's also just really funny when he gets blown off of it. Like that's really funny to me. But then he's dead. But he isn't.
Starting point is 00:45:48 Because no one can die in this movie who matters. No. Janaro, go fuck yourself. Muldoon, barely. Sam Jack's. Yeah, he didn't get that much screen time. Newman. Bad guy.
Starting point is 00:46:02 It's true. But th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. tho, tho, tho, th. th. thi. tho, tho, tho, tho, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. the. the. thee. toe. the. thee. thee. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. But not Hammond somehow. He deserves to die, and Michael Creighton knows it, and I'm surprised that he didn't push for that in this film. But once you find out that Richard Attenborough's cast, you're like, ah, I guess it's gotta live. Why? Can't kill Richard Attenborough? Yeah. All right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:18 That's shan illegal. Clever girl, which is also a phrase I say all the time out of context This movie is so fucking quotable. Oh yeah, oh god yes Life finds away life Find the way and then later Sam knows like life finds away. Yeah, he was right. So you're not going to get into chaos math is what you're telling me? I don't think so. It seems Complicated and stupid. I feel like it's math I can get behind because. I'm? It's that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. chaos math is what you're telling me? I don't think so. It seems complicated and stupid. I feel like it's math I can get behind because I'm bad at math so I could just be like, chaos. They're like, you didn't show your work for this one and you're like, chaos! I realized that I would just turn into Chris Angel. Oh, I would love you to start mind freakingfreaking honestly. I think that's a neck a great next step of your life. Getting into magic. Just making you think that I stole your tooth. That's
Starting point is 00:47:10 the only thing I've ever seen him do. Really? It's like convinced someone that he stole their tooth. And then me like, mind freak. I saw one where he walked on water. Just like a Jesus lizard apparently. But he did it for a long time. Okay. Mind freak. Can we talk about that like one of the scenes towards the end of the movie where the T-Rex billows as the banner falls down in front of it that says when dinosaurs ruled the earth? And it's just like in slow-mo falling and you're like, mmwuh! Mwah mwom, muh, muh, muh. I love that Stephen Spielberg,
Starting point is 00:47:47 there's just some movies like this in Indiana Jones, where he just has to be like, did I mention that I love cinema from the 30s? Did I ever mention that to you? But I love King Kong, and then I love like cereals. Stephen Spielberg, What are you doing? What's up these days? What's the last thing? He did. I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:48:09 I like that super eight movie that him and J.J. Abrams did. You like that? Yeah. And see? If you like a Steven Spielberg movie? It's very Steven Spielberg movies? He's that's his thing he makes movies people like. Sure. Yeah. It makes your jaws. It makes your AI. Yeah. He makes you, I don't know. Has he done any other movies? I'm not sure this one, I think? And then at the end, Sam Neal's just watching a bunch of pelicans, question mark, fly around.
Starting point is 00:48:36 Like big pink pelicans. Yeah, and I was like birds, huh? Dinosaurs. They're just looking at them with such smug admiration. Starting point is 00:49:09 Oh, that's right. You've never had the lost world. But I sort of remember the beginning of Lost World being on an island where there's like maybe a dinosaur. Yeah. And then it's like a third one with a sleepy face. Is that a Dick Tracy villain? No, Swingers, a shitty guy who's not funny but it's always in comedy movies. Good lord. He was in, uh, he was in, uh, got somebody's screaming into their phone right now. Was he in the cube? No, the cell? Which one has Jennifer Lopez?
Starting point is 00:49:41 The cell? He's the detective in the cell. Oh, I have no memory of that. Oh, he's... Let's just look it up, my friend. Vince Vaughn? Yes, thank you. He is sleepy-faced. He's very sleepy-faced. Yeah, that's fair.
Starting point is 00:49:56 He's in a Jurassic Park movie? thiii. . . Did you see any of the new Jurassic Park movies that got me, like Jurassic World or whatever? Yeah, yeah. I saw one of them, no. No, really? Bummer. It's too much. Just too much action. Too much action. Too much action. I'm not a Chris Pratt guy? Well, he's a dick, right? Yeah. Yeah, like I do like Bryce Dallas Howard. Oh, I love Bryce Dallas Howard. And I also really do like Parks and Recreation, but... Sure. I'll take a fat Chris Bat all day long. Oh, right.
Starting point is 00:50:27 So he got fit and then did like superhero movies? And then he was out for you? Okay. Okay, you go first. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Katie. the

It's a great way to spend two hours and six minutes. It's just like such a delight. Yeah. It's beautiful. For sure. But Hammond should have died, let's be honest. Sure. Yeah. Probably also, uh, Ian Malcolm should have died too.
Starting point is 00:51:11 Just saying. For what? Yeah, just saying. Being a creeper? Yeah. Yeah. Well in the book he does. But I guess I needed him for the other movies. Uh, that was fun. We've certainly done the things that are less horrific than that. Don't bring it on. That was a bonus episode. Those don't count. Those aren't canon. Okay, we've done. You've got mail.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Was that? For shit and giglets? Honestly, I know that was just this past winter, but it feels so long ago that I literally don't even remember. Katie, can I take you to a little place that I like to call mail bag? Please do. Mailbag. Mailbag? I feel like we can't yell that out here. Also stop using a weed wacker.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Like seriously, we're doing something. People aren't paying money for this. Oh, that was three red SUVs in a row. What are the chances? Is it red SUV a clock already? This is from Mike M from Florida. Okay, hi Mike M from Florida. Five-star review. Sorry about all the shit we talked on Florida last week. Would give it 10 in the ratings phase.

It's been too long since we did a Netflix original, huh? And a Stephen Kang Joe Hill original. Is it? Fucking hell.
Starting point is 00:53:50 Who boy? It's a family affair. What's Joe Hill's deal? You're just not any good or what? People love him. Okay, sorry, I didn't know. I've not enjoyed any of the things I've read by him, but again, I am not the target audience. I do like that he's named Joe Hill. You like that? Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, which is a famous labor organizer and...
Starting point is 00:54:11 Oh, I didn't know that. Cool. I do like that, too. Mm-hmm. I mean, Stephen Collins, I'll tell you what. I appreciate that he's finally using his main influence for good.
