Truly it had been too long since we tackled a Netflix original film, so this week we're discussing the 2019 Stephen King/Joe Hill adaptation "In the Tall Grass." Somewhat appropriately for a film about the horrors of the great outdoors, this episode was recorded on Allen's porch. A pop loses touch with the reality and become a monster because of space Satan and then torments his family and anyone around them. A mom becomes a blubering mess and must be saved seemingly by a seemingly irredeemable, but actually loving brother-in-law who sacrifices themselves for the family or something. A funky child has all the answers and will actually save the protagonist protagonist from aliens. As everyone drives away who are stanky, a proud Mary starts rolling over the credits.

That is fucking bang on. Good work my friend. Thank you. Wow! That's all you got to do to write one of these god-dame movies. How are we not billionaires? Brazilianers? Brazilianers even. Yeah, so this movie is literally like someone just was like, I need a Stephen King. And he was like, theymea lick the butt and he was like grassfield and runes he's got Stephen King's magnetic poetry candle spring yes exactly oh my god that is so so fucking bang on I had no idea this was a Stephen King influenced film and I don't know how I didn't know that it was based on a novella written by him and his son Joe Hill. I'm a skatman. So this film opens with grass screaming and growling, which just is like, this is gonna be bad. You know who the director of this film is? It's some Italian, yeah. He's from Detroit. Look, look, you can be an Italian-American? He is the director of the Cube. Oh, you know, that explains a lot of unnecessary complexity.

But he's eating that in the way of like close up and loud? Yeah, the best way to eat a fast food burger.

Just gah! I know I'm not allowed to eat on the podcast anymore, but if I had a fast food burger, I'd be annihilating it right now. I did buy us a bag of Oreos to eat. Look, I promised the reviewer who said that they hated when I ate on the show, that I would never do it again. They're red, white and blue Oreas. I know. I've been looking at them since the last episode. I like, I like how the brother says to her like, don't even take the baby's needs into account. And I was like, um, excuse me. If you're planning to birth that child, you probably ought to take its needs into account, you

I'm not just going to walk right into grass that's above my head. Smart. The second thing I'm going to do is turn around and see how there's a giant fucking church across the street and say maybe we can get into that tower. Maybe we can see them thrown. their towar. haul him in. No, guess you better call 911 and get to a high point so you can see if you can find him and direct him out. Oh my god, you dummies.

I guess it's not a movie, that is it? Also, I was like, you have to start stomping that grass down so you can find your way back out. Right, which Travis later starts tying. I mean, I find it very hard to believe that this beautiful woman let Travis impregnate her, but okay. He isn't a band. I mean, that's true. He's a singer too. Yeah, and he has that gross hair.

Ladies love gross hair. I feel like that's what my hair was looking like for a while during pandemic, so I would prefer it if you didn't say that. If it is, you are hiding it on the zoom calls. So fun to record outside. There's just so much to be distracted by. For the next session, I'm going to give out my address so people can sit across the street and watch us too. That would be great. Can I tell you about a note I have early on in this movie when they start like trying to find each other in the grass? Yeah. The nice thing about this movie is you don't really have to watch it. Because you don't. And that's the Fartmobile. That Honda was souped. It don't want none.

So it's basically you're watching a game of Mark Opel. Yes. Yes. Yes. It's so, it's so ridiculous. So they do a thing early on where they like jump up and put your hands above your head so we can see each other and they do it and they're very close to each other. Dad. I feel like Joe Hill then, if we're blaming this on Joe Hill. I feel like he saw a happy death day and was like, how can I make that less fun? Oh man, that movie is way better than it should have been. I fucking love that movie. Why have we done that on this podcast? I enjoyed every goddamn second of it. I know there's a sequel I haven't even seen. It's supposedly terrible. Really? That's disapoing. that's not a premise that a second movie should begin. Oh God, fun. And it was really charismatic actors. In a college instead of a field. Actually, it's very different.

It's Scotshmore nudity. Yeah? There's some nudity in that movie. I don't remember. I don't remember. There's probably some tetts. Who knows? So we find Tobin pretty quickly, who is the little boy.

Something's weird about that kid, that actor. So, we get- He's like a grown-ups face. His face kind of looks like the happy death day mask. Oh my gosh, yeah. When we first meet Tobin, he's like a monster Tobin. Yes. He's super gray and weird looking.

I guess, so the time thing is really confusing to me of what. Even when Travis finds Becky and Cal in the field, he's like, you've been

gone for like thi. And they don't even even even even even even're not even like, well, where have we, like, what has, have people been looking for us? Like, what has been going on? They don't even question it. Like, nobody questions the time issues in this movie. Also, Travis goes to their car, and there is a maggot burger, That's CGI looks so fucking shitty. It was just like, why did you even bother?

And if it's two months, we're past the maggot face. Yeah, they're not eating it, there's nothing for them to eat. And also, if it's a fast food burger, it's still fine. Yeah, it's fine. It's not blue. Because they were just like, let's make it blue. Just spray pay the thing and be done with it. Yeah, like the waterlogged book wasn't enough for us. Yeah, right, this copy of Jane Eyre. I also highly doubt that woman likes Jane Eyre. I don't know why, but I just don't.

I mean, if you're seven months pregnant, you're wearing a strapless, backless bra, I don't understand you. That's all. Jane Eyre speaks to me of a practicality that that a that a that a strapically that a strapless back was bra while seven months pregnant does not. What is a strapless backless bra? Yeah. I mean, she's all hip bones and like yeah. Connected to the thigh bones. So then they also meet Tobin's dad, Ross, real estate's game. I kind of liked him for a little bit. Has he been there since the 50s? I don't know. Played a little ball, Ranlon was a track star?

It's fucking ridiculous. That dude's in a to'nipuous. He looks so familiar to me. His name is Patrick Wilson. He is in the conjuring. Who was he in the conjuring? One of the shitheads. Tell me more. The husband wife two, oh.
