Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 308- Beyond the Door (1974)

Episode Date: November 23, 2020

In this week's episode, we're here to just roll around in an absolutely bananas Italian film, the 1974 supernatural (?) horror movie "Beyond the Door." Holy ghost. Special topics for your consideratio...n include: pea soup straight from the can, distracting leg/head ratios, extremely funky songs, a feeling of genuine pity for child actors, and what would happen if you heard about the plot of "The Exorcist" then confused it with another movie you read about called "Rosemary's Baby" and immediately turned it into a script. Oh and by the way, we changed the name of this podcast to "Boat Homes" so we hope you like that. Do you enjoy absolutely insane Italian horror films? May we recommend Episode 41- "L'Ultimo Squalo (The Last Shark)" or really anything Fulci made (Episode 72- "The Beyond," Episode 227- "Zombi 2" and Episode 281- "City of the Living Dead")?  Find us online: Support us at patreon.com/werewolfambulance and get bonus episodes about action movies Buy merch for yourself or those you love at www.teepublic.com/user/werewolfambulance on Reddit at r/werewolfambulance on Facebook at facebook.com/werewolfambulance on Twitter @werebulance on Instagram @werewolfambulance. werewolfambulance@gmail.com If you liked this, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen. Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm actually, like, I'm sitting here reading my notes and thin. It's a tall boy. Is it a tall boy of Campbell's pea soup? Holy shit. I actually, like, I'm sitting here reading my notes and thinking, oh my god, this movie's fucking insane. Yeah. I forgot about that.
Starting point is 00:00:29 That's weird. Why is it never addressed why their children are so fucking insane? I would be worried. Did you feel like, oh, by the way, I'm Alan. I'm Katie. We haven't done that in a long time. I's. wolf ambulance, and we're talking about beyond the door. Like, I know you can figure out which of us picked this one. What is it, Italian? What is it, the 70s?
Starting point is 00:00:51 It's insane. I love that the two kids are in a different movie than everybody else. I feel terrible for the children playing those children. There's one point where that little boy that little that little that little that little that little that little that little that little boy boy boy boy boy boy boy boy boy boy boy boy that little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little little boy that little boy that little boy that little boy that little boy that little boy is that little that little that that that that that thoooo. thoo. th. th. th. th. th. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I the the th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. We thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I the children playing those children. Like there's one point where that little boy is definitely actually sobbing. He's not acting. I know a sobbing child when I see one. He's crying so hard. But wait.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Why did you pick this movie? Can you tell me why? Just like give me a justification. Because I feel like we hadn't done anything truly mausoleum level bat shit in a long time. That is fair. And this movie I feel like is on par with mausoleum. It's up there with, remind me again of the devil inside me. What's the movie? Oh that devil inside her, which is also the title of this film at one point. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. the the the th. th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. the. the. the. the. the. the. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. the. the. the. the.'s the movie? Oh, the devil inside her, which is also the title of this film at one point. Yes. Yeah, I believe it's incorrect on our letter boxed.
Starting point is 00:01:51 With the, someone has the poster for the, the person who does that as the poster for this movie. Oh my gosh, get on it. Yeah, that's so nice. People are so nice. People are so fucking nice. Whoever made this movie not that fucking nice? This film opens on, this film opens on a dark room full of candles and a voiceover from someone who's like, you will not see me for the remainder of this story, which is like not entirely true because he's in every scene giggling.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Would you say? I love it because, we're watching it. Which is like not entirely true because he's in every scene giggling. Would you say? I love it because watching it with closed caption just says, the devil and then his opening monologue. I guess you know what this movie is going to be about. That's Edward El Montoro as the devil. Literally every time he started laughing, which is many times, I laughed too. It just brought like my heart could not not laugh.
Starting point is 00:02:49 It's so silly. And his, the devil's voice, Katie like nailed it. Oh yeah, yeah, so anyway, this fucking guy over here, Dmitry. Which is not not the name of the priest from the exorcist, right? Oh, Dimmie. Yeah. Why you do this th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, this th, th, this th, th, th, this th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the the the the the the the exorcist, right? Oh, Dimmie. Yeah, yeah. Dimmie! Why you do this to me, Deevy? Of course you recognize Dimitri as Dr. Menard from Zambi. You know I did. Also from the haunting. He's the doctor. He's the haunting. He's the doctor in that. He's the doctor. He's the main game. No, I recognized him from nothing.
Starting point is 00:03:26 And also later in the movie, they're like, oh yes, you would know him to see him. And it's like, no you wouldn't. He's literally the world's most average looking man. He's like, he's's a tennis pro, a woman who looks like a tennis pro. And then there's titties on an altar? And then the, is it, I thought it was Jesus's tits?
Starting point is 00:03:55 It is briefly Jesus. Okay, I could tell if it was, once that whose tits it was? No, no, there's a brief overlay of Jesus's face over the naked teen. That's a very, very uncomfortably young-looking woman. It is definitely uncomfortably young looking. And then the camera pans out so that you can see Jesus' bush. Which I didn't think I would see. 74, come on. Yeah, but Jesus!
Starting point is 00:04:23 Yeah, but Jesus! My next note just says, sorry, I missed all that. So I don't know what was happening. Yeah, there were, the devil just wanted to use Juliet or Jessica Barrett as a vessel to bring evil into the world. Who is talking about that? The devil. He sets that up at the beginning. Shit, I miss that. He's yelling at Dimitri and he's yelling at Dimitri and he's like, Dimitri, why did you do this? Now you have to drive your car off the cliff. Oh. Oh. Demetri, he's accelerating down the highway and he's trying to find the break and he just just just just just just just just he he he he he he he he he just he just he just he just he just he just he just he the th he th he th he th. He he's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th. He's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling at th-i, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's th, he's th, he's th, he's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi thi thi thin, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling, he's yelling at thin, he's yelling, he's thin, he's yelling, he's thi's thi thi, he's the floor. Just keeps hitting the floor. Move your foot, Dmitri. No, I do remember that now. But as soon as he said, Dmitri, why you do this?
Starting point is 00:05:07 I was like, no, I've already seen that film. So Dmitry drives his car off a cliff, but the movie stops and it's like, but wait, you have more time to do things. I get it now. I don't tha tha thuuuuuuu th. I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I have, I have, I have, I have, I have th. I have thi, I have thi, I have th. th. th. th. you have th. you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you. you. you. you. you. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to have to have to have to have to to thi. to to thi. to to to to to to thi. to to to to to thi. to thi. thi. thi. th devil, Dimitri. I get it now. I don't actually. No I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't at all. I don't at all. This is still the opening credits. I haven't know that says you don't have to rip them out. You can just wait. It sorts itself out. But I have no idea what that's about. What could that mean? No idea. I don't know either. I don't know either. Weird. Do you ever know this is fuck yeah, funky jazz? I have, this is so funky and then I wrote Rhee Robert. That guy is not funky.
Starting point is 00:05:52 He is not. He's also been in a movie we've done. What? He was in Perfondarosa. I have not seen Perfonderosa. I'm pretty sure we did. What? The English jazz musician?
Starting point is 00:06:06 Does it have another name? Deep Red. Oh, Deep Red, yes. Yeah, yeah. Because I would have made a lot of Ponderosa Buffet jokes if we had done that. I'm sure we did. You think I made those jokes?
Starting point is 00:06:17 I think so. Yeah. One of the makers of this film or someone involved in the production of this film anyway is Giorgio Carlo Rossi, which brought me a lot of delight because you know I love the jug wine, Carlo Rossi, you're the only man for me. It's so true. I love that the funky jazz becomes satanic funky jazz. The bargain with the devil chorus that they do, I don't know, 12 to 13 times.
Starting point is 00:06:54 It has an extremely hot beat. It does. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a great song. And he's like, this sucks. Fuck you. You're off the beat, James. Step it up! He's like, um. He has as much balls as a castrated. Fuck you! You're off the beat, James! Step it up! He's like, um...
Starting point is 00:07:07 He has as much balls as a castrated jellyfish as one of the things he says. Like, who thinks that? He says to one of the musicians about playing the instrument as well as he plays his tool, and he's like, I never had to play a 36 bar solo on my tool, which is very funny. This goes on forever. Uh-huh. Yeah. Funky jazz takes a long time to get there.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Because it's interspaced with mom and the kid who's drinking pea soup directly out of a can, which I don't think would go up the straw. They would look like big straws they. They look like wide circumference, yeah. The original bubble tea was just pea soup. It's disgusting, room temperature pea soup. She leaves them in the car while she goes grocery shopping in a convertible. I was like, oh this is where the kids get abducted. Right. That's the real horror movie, it is not. And the donors reading 12 copies of love story? Why? Who bought them for her? She loves that book? I I I I I I I I I? I? I? I book. I book. I book. I book. I book. I book. I book. I book. I book. I the book. I the book. I the book. I the book. I the book. the book. I the book. the book. I the book. the book. the book. I the book. the the the the the the the the the the their. their. their. their. their. the the their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's, the the the the the the the too. It's too. It's too. It's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the them for her? She loves that book. I don't understand. Have you ever read that book?
Starting point is 00:08:07 No. No. It had to have been a something of the time. Yeah, it must have been. But I just love that everyone is a son of a bitch and an asshole and a fucker to her. It is not that fun to watch this child be so vulgar. It gets old, I think, because she seems really disturbed and nobody pays a lick of attention to her. Luckily, she seems to be Italian and not speaking to her brother, obviously, in Italian. Yeah, it's really good. There's the one scene where they're both supposed to be screaming in the polter guy scene. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:45 And they're both just going, uh, uh, and I thought, is that how you scream in Italian? One of the lines in the song has to do with, um, shoveling your coal. And I was trying to just, like, explain to't go that way. Yeah. Yeah. Also through this entire thing, the scene of the recording cuts, of the band recording of song cuts, we do the grocery store, we get back to their house, they're talking about like his secretary's virginity or something, they're talking about the aquarium. The child is behaving like a gangster. And for some reason, the score is still going.
Starting point is 00:09:31 It goes through almost the entire film. Why wouldn't it? It is impossible to watch. It is agonizing. Not as agonizing as two children, one six and the other eight. I wouldn't even say that that child is six, the younger one. So like five and seven maybe? Five and seven maybe, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:53 The fact that they are making cake batter in the kitchen on a shag, on a shag carpet that's like 10 inch shag. What is happening in their home? Literally, like I want to understand, because Jessica is meant to be our protagonist, I want to understand why she's not parenting those children. I want to understand what is going on in Jessica's life that she's allowing this to happen.
Starting point is 00:10:15 Maybe this was a, you know, like some 70s, like hands-off, parenting, they'll find their own way. And a five-year-old saying, go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-go-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s, they-s, they-s, they-s, they're they're they're saying, they're saying, they're saying, they'll-s, they'll- their own way. And a five-year-old saying, go stuff yourself, Gail. You're like, uh-uh. That had to have been the parents stepping in being like, he can't say, go fuck yourself. Yeah. We got it. I mean, I'm putting my foot down here.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Everything else is fine. This is. He has a poster of a Campbell's Pee soup cat above. He does does. th is th is th is th is th is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that. that. the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I'm th. I'm te. I' te. te. tea. tean. tean. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. th. his bed. He does. What if, in that scene, you just saw his little mouth go, Pap-on-Cullo. He'd be like, oh my god. I would love it so much. I'm gonna go back and watch it because I'm not entirely sure that he doesn't. It just starts flipping under his skin and everybody.
Starting point is 00:11:04 The little boy? I don't think I ever gave him. Ken, he's Ken, Ken and Gale, because they're an elderly couple in the 70s. And they're like, she's like later when they, she finds out she's pregnant. And they're talking about naming a baby, she's like, a name is so important.
Starting point is 00:11:22 It's like one you've already you you've so you've gotten your top pick for both genders. Yeah. And also, they're not, you know. She says that and the first name she throws out? Steve. Steve. What do you think about Steve? What?
Starting point is 00:11:35 What? Names are so important. I mean, Steve is a right now. Hi Steve, Steve, you're great. But Steve is not the name that comes to mind, like, it's not Hannibal. It's not like... You're not, it's not like, you're not making a real big statement with Steve, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. George Washington Barrett.
Starting point is 00:12:00 But I also love that she's like, oh, I was going to tell you when I told everybody at the party tonight, but I'm pregnant. Fuck you, I'm your husband, tell me now. And he seems really unhappy to be a parent. Dispondent. To begin with, he hates the two children he has. And like, for good reason, they're imminently hate hatedable. These people, let me, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, let, they, the, they, they, th, th, th. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, t. to be. to be. to be. to be. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I. I, thi, to, t. I. I. I's. I'm. I'm. to. tttttte. te. too. te. tea. to. tea. to. tea. tell, tea. tell, tell, tell, tell, tell me tell you something. These two don't need another kid. No, no, they don't need the two they have. I was like so much of calling child protective services right now.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Yes. And then she's in the bathroom with a red toilet. Is she throwing up blood or throwing up throw up? I think she's throwing up that green stuff that she throwing up that's that you know. He's like, ooh, oh, mm-mm. Yeah, but he's just like, oh, well, you're okay then. But like, I mean, a pregnant woman throwing up is like, oh well, it's a thing that happens. But I thought she was throwing up blood and he was like,
Starting point is 00:12:54 wipe it off and come That toilet was so gross looking for some reason. Genuinely don't think I could shit in a red toilet. I think I would just be like, no. And it was just like this solid piece with no tank and you had to flush on the wall. There was a lot of stuff that I just didn't like about it. Like an airport. It was also kind of like squareish too. I thought like my cheeks would hang over the side. I just don't, I didn't like it. I love 70s decor. For sure. You know, I love the film The Devil Within
Starting point is 00:13:35 her, the one that we did with Joan Collins, because I love the inside of her home so much. And these people are like the worst of 70s decor. This is pure cocaine party. Yeah, but also like that four-piece panel thing of mallards that's in their room. It's just like, why did you buy that? Where did you buy that? Swap meat? Yeah, go to Joan Collins' house. Look at her macroma, look at her hanging plants. Look at that beautiful fur blanket blanket, and her silk thoaks. bad. And her giant baby running around the house.
Starting point is 00:14:06 You know what? Here's the thing, I feel like they're very similar movies. I love, love that film. I hate this one. And I feel like maybe that's not fair, but Joan Collins is really good. Well, Joan Collins is a selling point. She is. And that movie has a story that moves along. Well, I mean, there's like the back story of her being propositioned by a little person and turning him down and then he curses her baby and then her baby is really strong and he starts killing people. Okay, fine, I'm in. Yeah. Yeah. You don't think, you don't think, uh, somewhat goofy, they, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their, their their their their their their their their their their their, their, their, their their their their, their, their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their, the exorcist Ed Rosemary's baby to me.
Starting point is 00:14:45 They mentioned there was pea soup and I wasn't sure where it fit in so I made a kid drink a can of it. God! Oh, fuck. You know, the thing about this movie is that it somehow manages to be both exquisitely dull and wildly bonkers. Like, how are you doing both? It's like your friend who is, they just have to be interesting at all times, to the point of where it's fucking boring as hell.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Absolutely. And this movie, I disagree. I think this movie is very exciting for all of its stupidity. There are long periods where I was just like looking at enchilada recipes. I was like texting an old friend whose birthday it was. Oh, yeah. Happy birthday, Liz. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:31 I just couldn't, I just couldn't not. So mom goes to the doctor. And the doctor's like, oh, you're three months along. She's like, I can't be. I just stopped having my period seven weeks ago. Yeah. He's like, well, I don't want the fuck to tell you lady. I like that he jumps to this is a wild thing no one's ever heard of and not like hormones, man, who knows? Yeah, sure, sure, sure, sure. Yeah. Yeah. I have heard of women actually continuing to have their periods their periods while they're th th th th th th th th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just put that in with like hoarders and all those shows that are like, no, look at what happens to people. Yeah, see that seems
Starting point is 00:16:16 worse because those people don't usually make it out, you know. I didn't know I was pregnant. People people people people people people people people people people people. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People. People are just like, well, this kid's got fins, but I love it anyway. Anyway, she's three months pregnant. Here's hoping she hasn't been drinking. He's like, you need to be kept under the closest of observation. And I was like, but why? Sorry, I didn't mean to shout in your ear. We see why, because for some reason she throws an ashtrake through the fish tak, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, their, their, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is their, their, is their, is their, is, is their, is, is their. their, is, is, is their. their, is, is, is, is, is, is. their. their, is. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. to. to. their, is. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. the only thing he has in his life. And they straight up kill all those fish too because they're just flapping to death. It is so fucking bleak. There's one that's like hung up on coral like in midair just flapping and I was like, man, Faith No War got a lot of tole for doing this.
Starting point is 00:16:56 You guys shouldn't be doing this. I didn't know that. thing at the end of it there's just a goldfish flopping on the ground. You got in trouble. Pita was real mad, as you can imagine. It's like Pita. Fucking Pita. You guys are fine. Well, as a long-term vegetarian, I feel like Pita is a government front to make vegetarians look bad. Yeah, but I don't know what the end game on true. Yeah. Jessica's a little bit Kirsten Dunstey, don't you think? Or Kirsten Dunsty is a little bit Jessica?
Starting point is 00:17:29 Yeah, yeah. They have very similar features. And I kept wishing that I was watching Kirsten Dunst playing this character. Bring it on, Sa, come on, Sa'en, she goes up against him and wins, you know. And a dance-off. Yeah, I like like th feel like th feel like thi feel feel feel feel feel feel feel feel like thi feel like thi I feel like! Yeah, I like that. I feel like this giggling Satan would be down for it. Oh yeah. Well if we're going to have a dance up we might as well have a dance floor and he like waves his arms and
Starting point is 00:17:54 there's a like a ring of fire. He's definitely the devil that went down to Georgia to get on Charlie Daniels per like case. One hundred percent. Yeah, He's so jovial. I do like a fuck it Satan. I really do. Like I appreciate like that like that Irish take on like folklore Satan whether it's like if you put some salt on his tail he gets stuck and you get mad at you for days. Just like all right why? That is a lot better than sort of the Roman Catholic Satan just like you're never gonna get away from him. Yeah that's nice, you're right. I missed a lot of Satan's parts in this film to be fair because they're dialogue heavy and I was having a hard time with the dialogue. But he seemed, yeah, he seemed like to not
Starting point is 00:18:35 really care all that much. No, no, he's, there's like demon noises in the house. There's like bangs and growls that don't amount to anything. Yeah, when she's throwing up in the bathroom, there's like a terrible scraping and thudding sound and then it's just like, what is that sound? I don't know. But she sees Dmitry in the mirror in the bath, right? What is, okay wait, back up. Back up. Is Dmitri alive or dead? He a ghost.
Starting point is 00:19:07 He died when he drove his car over the cliff, but he didn't, because he got more time. So he's in this like limbo state. Where when he did, sort of, I guess, yeah. If we're going full Roman Catholic on it. I don't, well, I mean, it's the only only only only only only only only only only, it's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the only, it's the only, it's the only, the only, the only true god or whatever I don't know. Yeah so it's like Satan pulled him out of the wreck but like pause the wreck because later he'll start the recording on the wreck back up and it'll shoot into the water. Okay. Also to be mirrored at the end of this movie and I love it so much it's so stupid. So Dimitri's dead. Yes. How did he he di- thi thi. that thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the the the the the thi thi thi the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. they they. they they they they. they they. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi theeeeeea. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. toda. ta. ta. tha. thae. thae. the. the. th flies off the cliff. But he didn't. But he did. But the devil stopped it for the
Starting point is 00:19:46 duration of the film. Correct. But he's not dead. But he's not dead. But he's not dead. But he's not dead. But he's not dead. But he's not dead. But he's in this like not dead. But he's not dead. But he's in this like not dead. I feel like he can appear in a mirror but not be in the room.. the room. Well. the room. the room. Well. the room. the room. the room. Well. the room. the room. the room. the room. the room. the room. the room. Well. the room. the room. the room. the the the the the the th. Well. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I. I. th. I. th. the. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeea. theea. I theee. I th. I th a mirror but not be in the room. Or maybe he's a wizard. I fucking don't know, Alan. Oh, I do like where she like levitate walks in her bed. I thought that was cool. But then she just wanders around in the rain, I guess. Yeah, uh-huh. And then comes back into the house and leaves muddy footprints on everything that are not shaped like human feet? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Was she really sleeping in that crazy, like, twisted neck halter dress? Yeah, yeah, of course. Weird. Pregnant in like the most uncomfortable pajamas. So we cut to the doctor and Robert having lunch. At this, in the exact same table, I was like, ooh, it's the restaurant set. With Demetri sitting inside of the restaurant where they're out on the patio just smoking and staring at them?
Starting point is 00:20:52 And the doctor says, yeah, this baby's a biological absurdity. Yes, he is so casual about this fucked up baby. And I didn't want to upset her. And I was like, ooh, 70s! this. this. this this thiiiiiiii-a, this this th. thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it's the the thi, it's thi, it's the the the the the the the the the the the the thi, it's the thi, thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi, it's the thi, it's thi, it's thi. too, it's too. too. too. too too too too too too too too too too too too. too. tm. t And I didn't want to tell your wife because I didn't want to upset her. And I was like, ooh, 70s, what are we doing here? You know, it's like in Rosemary's baby, the true horror is that like this can be kept from women, they can be kept from the information about their own bodies and what's happening tothat's treated like not the horror. It's treated like, yeah, fine. Do you know what I mean? I kept waiting for the doctor to be in on the global conspiracy. He's not. He's just a bad doctor. He thinks he's doing his job. But it's also just like, here's the things that have happened so far. She didn't know she was pregnant. And she got upset and through an ashtray. He's he's th. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's, yeah. He's, yeah. He's, yeah. He's, yeah. He's, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th. He's, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, yeah. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's, yeah. He's, yeah. He's, he's, he's, he's, yeah. He's, he's, he's, he's, he's, yeah. He's,that have happened so far. She didn't know she was pregnant and she got upset and threw an ashtray through a fish tank. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:49 They belong to her husband who is clearly the worst. Right, right. So they're like, wow, this is an insane pregnancy that no one's ever heard of before. How, for what, really? I can name another pregnant woman who has busted something of her husband. I am sure of it. But the doctor talk about her having an incredibly speedy fetus. Oh my god. I was like, oh it's going to be another strong baby. It's not. And the doctor is just monologuing over this like score with sound effects. It just doesn't, it's like,
Starting point is 00:22:25 you can't even believe you're watching it. It makes you want to rub your eyes. They trick her into talking to the doctor's wife about it. Barbara. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Barbara. And she's like, talking to Barbara. And she's like, I've just been feeling so off lately. I think it's probably because Robert, and Barbara's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th you th you th you th you to to to to to to th you th you th you th you thi, th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to thi thi thi thi thi thi talking to Barbara. And she's like, I've just been feeling so off lately. I think it's probably because Robert, and Barbara's like,
Starting point is 00:22:48 Robert's like, Robert's a fucking dick. That's probably why you feel bad. And then she's just like a thing that everybody thinks. She was like, I wish I could just get on one of those sailboats and sail around the world by myself and never have to talk to anyone ever again. Yeah. That'd be great. I thought one of her crazy pregnancy things was going to be buying a boat which I really liked but she doesn't. Nope. And she starts talking about something bonkers and I can't remember what it is but I just remember being like Jessica what are you talking about? The past and like I don't even fucking know. I think she was like the past. the past. the past. the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm, I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, thus, thus. I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, th. I'm, I'm, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm really really really really really really really really th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm thatea. I'm that that that that that that that that that that that that know. I think she was like alluding to the satanic stuff that was in her past, but she didn't have, doesn't have any memory of it, except it's like coming out in bits and fits.
Starting point is 00:23:32 Can we talk about her satanic past? Can you tell it to me? So she says at one point that Dmitry was super manipulative. He was her ex-lover. Yes. I don't know why that that struck my ear really weird is her ex-lover. I like that. I'm gonna say it again, ex-lover. I'd like to say it with like a little bit of anger. Yeah, ex-lover. So he was apparently like very charismatic and very manipulative and like like talked her into being like a bride of Satan or whatever. A bride of Satan. Yeah to have have the Satan baby. So she knew she was a bride of Satan. Yeah, but I think when it got down to it, she was like, mm-hmm, I don't want to do this. So wait, is that why Gail and Ken kind of suck because they're like lightly spawns of Saet't give a dick about them. Why didn't Satan take one of the verse to?
Starting point is 00:24:28 Why you wait so long? What prompts all of this? What's Demetri's deal? Maybe it's the rock band that prompts all this? Do they like, or the funk band, do they bring Satan into this by evoking Satanism? Yeah, they're talking about the bargain with the devil and he's like, wait, I did make a bargain. Fuck, it was with her. You're right.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Thanks, Funky Jazz Band. Someone's gonna have to knock that lady up. It's gonna be me. You remember that one scene with a towel and thes happen in this movie and nothing comes of it. Something happens to Ken. He gets bite marks on him. He gets bite marks on him. And Gail's like, I don't know, just trying to fix it on her own. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:12 And her dad comes in and says, why must you always waste time, you little idiot? And I thought, oh, there it is. And then Jessica smacks G it in the scene? I thought so. Okay, because later she's talking to like the doctor or something about the kid eating candy and garbage all day. Oh, maybe that's when it happened. But also we've only seen him eat pea soup and he's like five so he eats whatever's there. Sure. If your five-year-old's eating candy all day, you're the one the one who fucked up. For sure. And it it it it's th. And it's th. And it's th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi's thi's thi's the thi's thi's the thi's thi's the the the the thi's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. too. too. toda today is today is today is today is today is thi thi thi th scene she's giant pregnant and then in the next scene she's not. Is this the scene where she lightly makes out with her son? Oh that was fucked. I didn't know what I was like
Starting point is 00:25:54 what is happening and I've seen the smoothie before? Yeah. Wow. When she, she kisses him the first time and I thought oh that's very tender. Yeah. And then she just like goes back back in. She goes back back back back back back back back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. She goes back. that. that. that. that. that. that. that's like, that's like. that's like. that's that's like, that's like. that's like. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. It. It. It. It. that's. It. It. that's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. the. th. the. th. the. th. th. the. th. the. th. the. the. the. the. th. th. thought oh that's very tender yeah and then she just goes back in. That's fucked I don't need that in my life. No and I was like oh is okay good okay that's all thank you thank you movie. Thank you cut away please no it's no it's terrible she's terrible this whole thing is terrible she wants an abortion yeah and she wants it now yeah and the doctor says no and she's like okay yeah he's like well he the he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he's like he's like, okay. Yeah, he's like, well, if we decide, who's we? He's a doctor. He's the man in the room. And he's not meant to be the bad guy in this movie. No, mom, no.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Yeah, fucking hell. Massogyny had not become to go. It still had to hit, it's real. So, she sees Demetri again in the reflection after she visits the doctor and is denied her rights to have an abortion. And then she's walking down the street and sees a banana peel. Yes, I actually love this. What? And eats the look of banana peal. Really slowly, Benz picks it up, looks around, places it between her teeth and chomps. That is really good.
Starting point is 00:27:09 This isn't even a mistype of this note? Yeah. What is the fuck? What is the fuck? And she's doing this, we should be clear to a very funky, very funky song. It's... I have the note sex jazz. This is just like, it's just gonna fuck that banana peel. It is fucking what? And so now we get a little frisson of Amityville Horror because there's the rocking chair with nobody's sitting in it
Starting point is 00:27:43 that's my best, my new invisible best friend. Right. And Gail is dressed like a waitress at October Fest. Why? Why does she look like a beer wench? It gets like a child. I want something to eat. So Gail go get some a flon. I couldn't even tell what it was.
Starting point is 00:28:07 It looked like a flon to me. Just some chilling dessert for like 10 people and she brings it back for this five-year-old child. I just wroteing the two of them though because they are just like saying raunchy shit to each other and it's not hitting in a comedic way at all. So this is the sort of poltergeisty scene which obviously paltrogyce is after this. So I thought did they actually, did someone actually see this movie? But it is very pulturgasty. Yeah, it also reminded me, do you remember that pod people episode of Mystery Science Theater? I do. When Trumpy makes everything in the room dance around for the little kid. Yes.
Starting point is 00:28:53 It's got good Trumpy vibes. It does have some trumpy vibes too, for sure. But the way the light is I like that whole thing, like, I love it when someone builds a movable set. Yeah. I'm very excited about that. It was exciting. But like... And obviously terrifying the children as well. Yeah. Why, though, is the devil menacing these two?
Starting point is 00:29:16 They're not pregnant with a devil child? Probably mad that he's getting flan for a snack like go out and get him some chips or something what's going on here? If you asked me for a snack and I brought you flawn, you happy or unhappy? I'm pretty stoked. Yeah, yeah. I've never had a flan. Yeah, sure, they're good. It's like a little custardy guy. I love custard.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Yeah, it's nice. Did you notice that they have a pin the tail on the fuck? It was a naked kiss and jerk with a bullseye in his butt. In the children's room? What is happening? Oh, fuck. So after everything goes nuts in the room, Kale runs to her mother's room and it's like, mom, I need your help. And her mom's head spins around backwards, and it takes, I don't know, 20 minutes
Starting point is 00:30:07 for it to make its full rotation. Yeah, and she has that like spooky exorcist face, but it just looks like. It's like shit. It looks like shit because you're watching it come around for so long, I think. But it's also like they're doing this add a little girl. It's fucked. It is so fucked. It's so funny that in the exorcist, this happening to Reagan is like gut-wrenching.
Starting point is 00:30:32 Absolutely. But like this kind of happening shitily to an older woman, you're like, this is ridiculous. I feel literally zero pity for Jessica. None. In the exorcist, you just feel so sorry that that that th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii thi thi you just feel so sorry for the two of them. You know, you feel so sorry that this terrible thing is happening to them. Right. This family you're like, yeah fuck it, you had it coming. Well in the exorcist they also establish that mom loves Reagan. Oh yeah, they're close. Yeah, and like there's all these people that are taking care of her and looking after. That's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. their. their. Yeah. their. their. their. Yeah. their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. they. they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. they. Yeah. they. they. they. they. they. they. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th and looking after. That does not exist in this movie. These poor children, and listen, they're going to get a sibling. That would suck for them if it had worked out. Especially since it's going to be Dimitri.
Starting point is 00:31:11 So, um, the, Gail says to the dad, she goes, Papa, please don't leave Ken and me alone again with mommy. And then I think, did it freeze from, like, there are times in this movie th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're that would that would that would that would that would that would that would that would that would that would that would that would th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, they're they're that, they're that, that, the dad, she goes, Papa, please don't leave Ken and me alone again with mommy. And then I think it, did it freeze, like there are times in this movie where I can't, I can't, I couldn't tell if it was like an error or a choice, because it doesn't sporadically. It's the MPEG glitching that I'm watching. I genuinely did not know. It's a choice. It's a choice. It fre fre fre free. It fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre fre. It's th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's a th. It's themes. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a threat. It's a t. It's a t. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. th. th. th. th It frees screams on her face for long enough that you're like, did my internet just go out? And then, the next scene is of her father walking around alone, presumably having left her alone with her crazy mother.
Starting point is 00:31:54 What is happening? It's the fucking worst. It's, it feels like there's two possibilities for why it freezes. One, the director was like, oh, this is where the commercial breaks are going to go when they put this fucking thing on TV. It's an hour into the film. Well, they don't want to break it up in the first hour. You want to break that first hour up. It's true. You want to get butts and their their huts, their, their, their, their, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, tho, tho, tho, that, that, that, thi, th. thi, thi, thi, thi, th. thi, thi, th. thi, th. This, th. This, th, th. th, th, th, th. th, th. th, th. th, th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi they were like, this will build tension.
Starting point is 00:32:25 It happens for a really long time. And then later, it happens a couple more times. It's like 15 times in a row. Rapid succession and then never again. Oh my god. Also, this is an incredibly long scene of Robert just walking around being a bozo. Yeah, being trailed by Dimitri, Well, being trailed by Dimitri, but also like being hassled by street musicians. The guy playing the flu with his nose? Yeah, I mean, they follow him for blocks and blocks and blocks and blocks and you're like,
Starting point is 00:32:54 how's he going to get away? And then in the next scene he's just alone in a parking lot and you're like, but where'd they go.. the where their their their their where their where they their where their where they their where they their where their where their where they're like, but where their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their th. their their. their. their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. thea. thea. thea. thean. thea. thea. thea. thea. thean. thean. thean. thea. thean. the on the street and these three dudes are like, yeah, we're gonna fuck with this movie. I hope so. Or if they were like, okay, we're done doing this now, so whatever you've got, we're gonna walk away. It goes on a really long time. I think this is when I started looking at recipes. He's also just casually walking in the middle of the street, which infuriates me. It's so weird.
Starting point is 00:33:26 So this is where he meets up with Dimitri, right? Yeah, Dimitri saves him from getting hit by a runaway rider truck. Oh yeah, that's right. Why does Dmitry even bother? What does Demetri's deal at this point? He's got to get to Jessica for Satan. He's got to get to her, to do, to do, to do, to to do, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to do to to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to to to to to to to to the to to their, their, their, to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to get to do what? What is his goal? Satan just tells him that he has to be there when the baby's born. Okay.
Starting point is 00:33:51 And it turns out that we find out later, Satan is going to give, because he's going to give Demetriotter eternal life. But he's going to do that by putting him inside this newborn baby. Me, me, I'm a Satan. Oh, wait, he was gonna be basically like reincarnated. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he was gonna have to like nurse from his ex-girlfriend. Uh-huh. That's weird.
Starting point is 00:34:13 She's gonna be like yelling at him while he shits his pants or something? Oh, she's probably not even gonna bother because she's a terrible mother. Just tuctape of the tha tha tha thanipe, like, like, like, like, like, like, tha, tha, like, like, the, like, like, like, like, the, like, like, like, thi, thi, like, thi, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, like, like, too, to to too, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, their, their their their their their their thi. too, too, thi. too, to to to thi, to to thi, to to to to to to to to to to to to to their bag too. Why is that appealing? Would he have all the knowledge? Imagine having all the knowledge you have is like a man in your 50s, but you're in the body of a stupid baby that literally can't do anything. And everyone's like, oh, you go, piqui, pff. Yeah. That's horrible. Well, the thing is is that like, this is Satan's curse. This is not what Robert wanted, or what Demetri wanted. Wait, what did Dmitry want it? Just eternal life? Just like, give give me that good life. But so he's gonna get a do-over though. I mean, a lot of people. See, I don't want to be a baby again, but I wouldn't mind a do-over on a lot of things. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Wait. th. th. th. Wait. th. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. What. It. It. It. It's. It's. What. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. th. I know now and all of that. Well, I don't know if you're going to keep, you know, you might reset the Demetri. Well, then it's just reincarnation and that might just actually be what happens.
Starting point is 00:35:12 What if reincarnation is just the devil being a dick? Yeah, he's just like making you be a baby again. And you're like, I know, I know how to use a potty. So he's like, I's like, I's like, I th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know how to to thi, I know how to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the the the the the the thean thean the thean the thean the thean thean the thean thean thean thean thean thean the all of this to Robert in like very vague terms. Yeah, the child must be born. Just give him something concrete to go on, Guy, and it's going on forever. M-uh, m-huh. What do you think about Barbara watching Jessica move just one of her eyes? I fucking loved that.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Yeah. I thought it looked amazing. That like made the movie for me. That's the best shot of the film for sure. Do you think it was a split screen shot? I think so. Or is she just like... No, I don't think she could do that. Because the other one absolutely still so sailet.
Starting point is 00:35:54 So it had the creeps. Sure. Yeah. It's so unsettling. Yeah, it's so weird. Yeah, it's great. It's like the one truly unsettling thing that happens in this movie other than her making out what their five-year-old's time. Oh, and that's the wrong kind of unsettling. I'm here for. Yeah. My next note after that just says in all caps, call a doctor. Her doctor included. No. Oh my god. She's like, like, so Barbara is basically like playing nurse to Jessica at this point. Yeah. And Robert comes home and she's like, she still has a fever, a very high one. Let me get you something to eat. That's literally what she says. If a pregnant woman has a very high fever, get her to the ER. Well what if her husband's hungry though? Oh my god. And he's like, oh yeah, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's like, that's that's like, that's like, that's that's that's that's that's th. So bar. So bar. So bar. So bar. So bar. So bar. So bar. So, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. So, that's that's. that's. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a th. th. the the th. the the th. the th. the the th. the th. th. the th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th, get her to the ER. Well, what if her husband's hungry though? Oh my god. And he's like, oh yeah, that's a good idea. I am a little nibbly.
Starting point is 00:36:50 I could, I'm peckish. I could go for a bite. Do you have any flawn? Can't, can't you take my children away? Yes. Maybe this was all a ploy to get someone to finally take their children away. What's up with the lozenges thing that the doctor keeps doing? I don't know. With those were the throat lozenges? Yeah, it seems so. He's just making designs with them. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Which is then gross to put them in your mouth? Yeah. Yeah. I haven't known. I'm the doctor falls in sleep and wakes up and she's sitting at the chair, she's like, I'm the devil now. Yeah, that is, she also, um, Sam Elliot? That was your, that was definitely your Sam Elliot voice.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Hurt's, don't it? I wrote everything about this is the exorcist, though I wish I wasn't looking at enchilada recipes. Lick the whores vomit. She does they get out, you fucking whining turd, which really made me laugh. You know I like that. I have to say, um, the, like, as you know, I'm grossed out by puking and like her puking and then shoving it back into her own mouth I was just like oh yeah it's like it's obviously uncomfortably thick yeah it's like oatmeal and like green
Starting point is 00:38:14 oatmeal we should have put a trigger warning on what you just said honestly for people who didn't watch this movie. Consider this your post-trigger warning. Is that how they work? No. Mm-mm. A few notes I have. I bet Alan loves this wallpaper.
Starting point is 00:38:37 And sorry, I absolutely zoned out on this conversation between Robert and Dmitry, and then I noticed how big Robert's head is compared to his legs and I don't know I think I'll look at something else. For the rest of the movie I could focus on nothing but how big Robert's head was compared to his legs. There's no reason for that. There's no reason for anything right now. This movie just anything. When he hears Demetri's name and Robert says, that's the name of the man she loved before she met me. Yeah, it's such a weird way to say, ex-lover. He instinctively trusts Demetri.
Starting point is 00:39:23 This stranger who shows up out of nowhere and has been following you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and he's like, oh right, whatever. And then like, there's a scene where Dimitri... And he's just like, just shows up in the house. Yes! How did Dmitry get in? He's like, well, Demetri's here. Are you singing? the tri is being like pulled into the door and he's like yelling but because his lips aren't moving I can't tell if it's him or the
Starting point is 00:39:48 devil talking. It is just excruciating to watch. There's so many times when when Richard Johnson has to animate a thing like the scene where he like Robert leaves and he flings his face up against the, Demetri flings his face against the mirror, and then is obviously shaking the mirror. It looks like it's vibrating. And then when he's attacking the door and it's like he's supposed to be being pushed back by an invisible force and you can tell he's just waving the door back and forth. They couldn't get someone to help him in this scene. Because his lips aren't moving I I can't tell which is supposed to be him and which is the demon. Also because the dialogue makes no fucking sense. And frankly, I wasn't paying attention.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Also, there's a lot of cuts to doorks. Yeah, but that doesn't mean anything. I don't know if it's meant to just be like, or entering into the world. Like if doorks are a metaphor for birth. Whoa, whoa, man. Turn, turn and slide, baby. That I see light is really giving you some perspectives. It is. It's a tall boy, so it's extra perspective. Demetri's acting the fuck out of that mirror. The nose flute attack, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Why is their home so dusty? Told the Coke. Oh, okay. It looks terrible. George is talking about how it's like hard for George is talking about how it's like hard for it's like hard for, maybe it's Dmitry. I don't know. Who cares? Someone's talking about how it's like hard for spirits to strive to emerge from the world about babies? Uh-huh. I just didn't
Starting point is 00:41:29 understand any of it. Nope. I don't know. I just don't know. So George now takes it, the doctor, takes it upon himself to investigate Timitri. So he goes to this hotel and they goes like, I don't know, it's fucking dog-am I'm not, there's no Tmetry here, fucking goddamn, fucking idiot, man? Really? I thought he pointed to Timetry's room. Well, maybe you did do that. And oh, that's right. And then he goes down to the docks? Yeah. In the bay area, the bay area, if you will will tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, I tho, I tho, I'm tho, I'm tho, I'm tho, I'm tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I th. Really, I th. Really, I th. Really, I th. Really, I tho, I tho, I tho, I'm tho, I'm tho. I'm too. I'm too. toooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Really, really, really, I'm tho. Really, I'm tho, I'm th. Area, if you will. This is all taking place in San Francisco. I don't know if we've said that up to now. We haven't, but you can tell because there is a printout of the Golden Gate Bridge that they put on every window in this film. And there's the shot of them going down that big wavy street. But I was fascinated with these like boat homes, house boats. There's one that just looks like a big gray cathedral.. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the gaiting their gaiting their gaiting their gaiting their gaiting their gaiting their gaiting their they put they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they their their their their g g g. their g. their g. their g. their g. their g. the g. the g. the gaiting the gaits gaits gaiting the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the gait. the's hat. There's one that just looks like a big, gray cathedral. And then he's talking to this woman in front of this like, just busted, angular, like witch house. Who is she? Yeah. How does he find her? And why does he know to go to the dogs?
Starting point is 00:42:41 I don't know? I didn't even realize he talked to the guy in the fucking hotel. No, honestly. They introduced this woman who is like... That tells him that Demetri's got big powers. Yeah, big powers. Oh no. Oh no. And that he died years ago. George's like, what?
Starting point is 00:43:00 Yeah. And then there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the the the the the the the the tho they. they. thoes. thoes. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that. that. that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that's that's that. that's that. that. that. that. that's that. that. that's the that. the the the the. that. that. the that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that's that's that's that. Yeah. And then there's a trolley with a rice-oroddy ad and I lost my fucking mind. That is very good. You're like, it is the San Francisco treat. Will that, uh, will that track with any of our younger listeners? I know, but people my age and older will get it. Yeah. Is this before or after he puts chip clips all over her head? This is after. Okay, because that's where you're the scene in which he really casually says to her husband, he's like, she's clinically dead.
Starting point is 00:43:31 What? And Robert's like, all right. There's no, I didn't do this right. No. She has no brainwaves. She's clinically dead. I just wrote, is there going to be a climax to this film? Spoilers, not really, no. What about when the devil's yelling to Dimitri to plunge his hands into her? But she says multiple to plunge your hands into her.
Starting point is 00:43:59 No. Yes, I will soon be born. I'll kill you first. I'll kill you, I'll kill you. The baby? Is the baby? Is the baby? Are? Are? Is the baby? Are the baby? Is the baby? Are we? Are we? Is the baby? Are we? Are we? Are we? Are we? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? Are we the baby? the baby? the baby? the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. thi? thi? thi. thi. thi. thi. tip. tip. tip. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. soon be born. I'll kill you first. I'll kill you. I'll kill you. And the baby? Is this the baby? Are we the baby now? Why? And that's where it's freeze-framing like every couple of frames and you, it's just like, is this an error?
Starting point is 00:44:18 It's not even like she's not making a cool face or something. They're just stopping it, it, it, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, is, is, is tho, is, is tho, is tho, is the tho, is tho, is tho, is the tho, is tho, is the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, is tho, is tho, is thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. tho. they fucking felt like it. This is after though where Robert has the eyeball in his drink and then throws the eyeball on the floor and suddenly were the eyeballs like point of view for a second. Yeah. I liked that. Uh-huh. Yeah I like that there's always a doll in the fish tank and never explained. Is it always a ta ta. You know he lotha's that that that th is always the the th is always th is always th is always th is always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always a th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the the thi thi thi. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi. No, no, no, he loves his fish. Can I say everything about fish tanks? That's weird. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So the baby's born. And it has no mouth. I think it's supposed to be a curse for Dimitri. I have to say I fucking hate that it has no mouth. Yeah. Why does it have no mouth? I thi th th th curse for Dmitri. But it isn't it's a dead baby with no mouth. Was it dead? Was it alive? I thought it was a life? I thought it was dead. Yeah, I guess there was just like an over goat thrown over it. Yeah, yeah, the blanket was over it's a whole thing. It's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's. Yeah. It's. It's. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's the. It's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the yeah, the blanket was or whatever was over its whole thing. No. Who knows? The way children are treated in this movie. You know what? Fair enough. No, I don't like a film that ends with a dead baby with no mouth. No, it's discarded. Well, luckily you could just tell it they scratched the mouth away on the frame.
Starting point is 00:45:36 It looks like it was done like a scratch-off lottery ticket. Cut to... There's so much we have missed but yes. Like literally 14 hours of a woman spewing green vomit and spinning in a swivel chair. It's so it it's so nothing. It's so much nothing. And just like Robert's smashing into her pregnant belly, which is like incredibly smushy. It's like they had one. He's like on top of her punching like having a tantrum like punching smushy. It's like they had one... When he's like on top of her punching, like having a tantrum, but like punching down her belly. But it's also going down like a couch cushion. It's like they had one pregnancy prosthetic and she's only partially wearing it.
Starting point is 00:46:17 It just doesn't, it's so fucking stupid. Anyway. Anyway. I want you to explain the end of this movie to me where we cut to the family on the ferry going somewhere and mom's all better now. She's all better but she still has like wounds around her mouth and she looks tired and sad. For sure. Yeah. And at the beginning of the movie while they were sitting in the open convertible, P-Super-Boy got a present. So at the end of the movie, he's opening this present.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Yeah. And the present is a toy car that looks vaguely like the car from the beginning of the movie. It has four wheels and it's red. And it has a cut out of a man sitting inside of it. I didn't notice that. That's good. Yeah. He throws the car over the side of the ferry into the water and then we cut to the car flying into the water because now Dimitri's finally dying. And then he turns around and he's got green eyes. So I'd like to explain that to you by reading you my last note. Oh, please, please, please. Why does Ken, why is he? Wait, ha ha ha ha ha?
Starting point is 00:47:35 No! Can I read you my last note? Yeah. Ha ha ha ha! What? So I guess the devil jumped out of this Dimitri baby and jumped into Ken and was like, well I still have dibzies on you. Gail's not going to work.
Starting point is 00:47:54 You're already filled with psoop for when I need the pukeen later. But I don't know what he's going to do from here. The devil? Was Ken the devil all ala' the devil all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all the devil all the devil all the devil all the devil all along what? I don't I don't fucking now. You look so mad at me I think that's why I associate this movie with mausoleum Because at the we and the end of it when the gardener's just sitting on a tombstone laughing and you're like what? Oh, that's right. I forgot about that. Why was he doing that? Oh for fuck sake. Why did you make me watch this? Because I knew it would be fun to talk with you. Oh, it was fun to talk. It was way more
Starting point is 00:48:33 fun to talk about than it was to watch, honestly. What a fucking shit heap. Sounds like we're moving into the ratings phase. I think you should have to go first. Okay. Katie. What? I have to tell you something. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the to to to to to the to th. to to th. the th. to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi. thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the. the. the. the. the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. Okay, Katie. What? I have to tell you something. What? This movie was exactly what I needed to watch the night that I watched it. Good, that's fair. You know that like as much as like 1986 is my wheelhouse, 19, mid-70s, shitty Italian horror movies are just, mmm. If one can have two wheelhouses, a vacation wheelhouse, perhaps, that is yours, a vacation wheelhouse perhaps? That is yours. My vacation wheel home boat.
Starting point is 00:49:09 Yeah. And this just like... Boat home. I'm fucking idiot. Oh, can we rename our podcast about boatheams? Can we rename our podcast boat homes? Just boat homes. People are like, I'm looking for a podcast about boating and we're like, Dicks and
Starting point is 00:49:27 horror movies. But this just brought me so much joy that it's just so stupid. It's so like, let's cash in on the exorcist. Because this came about the year after the exorcist. Let's cash in on that, but like I want to do it with minimal effort. Oh yeah. Minimal effort. Yeah. We're gonna have like two sets.
Starting point is 00:49:54 We're gonna have three, doctor's office, lunch spot, and interior of the co-com. Yeah. Oh, in a recording studio. It can fit 42 band members, yes. This sounds like a castrated jellyfish. Oh my god, Robert, I hate you so much with your big head and tiny legs. He's just the golden eye like cheat code where you can make everybody have a big head and run around. Yeah. I hate that game. I'm so bad at it. I'm always just just murdered immediately. Spinning and hitting a wall until someone shoots me. Same. I'm gonna give this movie a seven. What do you think? Oh, you have to be fucking kidding me. That is so unfair. It was, it's so joyously stupid. No, I genuinely don't understand how this a movie. Like, I genuinely don't understand how this is a movie. this. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. this is a movie. th what movies didn't get made that year so that
Starting point is 00:50:46 a studio could put this out? This is terrible. It is really bad and I feel bad saying that because I love the devil within her so much. Sure. I hated this. I hated it. It was like, when will it end? It's just, it's so hard to watch. And it's so hard to watch mainly because they're playing a funky score under every bit of dialogue. And you cannot focus, you just can't, it's a one for me. I hated it. Oh, wow. I can see why people would like watch it in a group of friends and think it's really funny.
Starting point is 00:51:21 Yeah. And that's fine for that, but it is a fucking terrible movie. What if you just watch it in a group of one stupid person to think it's really funny? Well, I watch it by myself, which is watching it with one stupid person, and I was mad. See, it's long, too. It's like, for what it is, like the padding in this movie, the filler of him walking down the street forever, it's just so upsetting. Well, what about the nose flute attack? I mean, I'm always searching for that, I gotta give Katie another mausoleum in her life. I've got to give her another like ridiculous movie. I did love mausoleum. I know.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Maybe this just hit me in a bad mood or something. No, I'm not even going there. It wasn't silly enough to be fun to me. Because there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there are there are their their their th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi. I thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thei. toooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I to to fun to me, because there are just so many scenes of long dialogues where it doesn't mean anything and you don't care. Yeah. I will say the first time I watched this, it did not hit me in the same way that it did the second time. I can't believe it got a second doing.
Starting point is 00:52:16 All those stupid shit that would, like, the kid drinking pea soup, and like the kid thi soup. Like, I giggled for so long about that. And one point Gail is packing him a lunch and she just puts two cans of pea soup in it. And an American flag lunchbox. Yeah. USA. He's a fucking steel worker. Yeah, it is. It is, it is like a metal roll top lunchbox.
