Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 323- Psycho Goreman (2020)

Episode Date: March 8, 2021

In this week's episode, we're discussing a movie that's even newer than last week's episode! It is also much, much sillier. We're talking about the 2020 horror comedy film "Psycho Goreman." Special to...pics for your consideration include: a deep and abiding knowledge of "Encino Man," child acting that makes you kind of uncomfortable, an absolutely insane rundown of the villains of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," hyperspecific nerd references and the neeerrrds that love them and LET'S GO BUCS! This movie reminded us a lot of several other movies we've discussed: check out Episode 38- "The Gate," Episode 147- "Critters" and Episode 199- "Terrorvision" (aka THE LIVE SHOW). Weirdly, all three of those films are also from the 1986-87 corridor in which Allen's brain loves to live.  Find us online: Support us at patreon.com/werewolfambulance and get bonus episodes about action movies Buy merch for yourself or those you love at www.teepublic.com/user/werewolfambulance on Reddit at r/werewolfambulance on Facebook at facebook.com/werewolfambulance on Twitter @werebulance on Instagram @werewolfambulance. werewolfambulance@gmail.com If you liked this, please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen. Starting point is 00:00:00 Alan, King, I didn't see Polly Shore in this movie at all. I thought he would be in it. Why would he be in this movie? This remake of Vencino Man? What? This is the plot of the film Encinoman? This is the plot of the film Encinoman, mixed with the plot of the film Terror Vision. And a little bit of the gate, just a little smidgen of the gate.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Very much the gate. No, these kids with no oversight digging a hole in the backyard. Yes. Realize how closely this mirrors the plot of Encinoman. Buddy. Buddy. I could definitely see Mimi wheezing the juice. Oh yeah, Meat Group. I can't wait to someday watch Encinoma with you. Let us know if you want us to do that for a bonus episode. I would do that in her. I don't even need to watch it. I could just do it. It's fine. You think you could do Encino Man from Memory? Yeah. All right, all right. It's fucked up. That's a fucked up thing to say. I still
Starting point is 00:01:35 haven't seen the wire but I can do Encino Man from memory. Carry on. How did you feel about the psycho-gore man for being from the distant planet of Gygax? This movie, that's when I knew, this in the first lines of this movie, that it was just going to be like, hey, we like stuff and we're going to talk about it, okay? Everything in this movie is a reference to something else. To the point of where, like, I feel like if you're not down with the shit that there's referencing, thininininininininininin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi,, like, I feel like if you're not down with the shit that there's referencing, this movie probably is awful for you. Yeah, for sure. Luckily, it's completely in my wheelhouse.
Starting point is 00:02:15 Oh yeah. So we learned that, um, that this, that there was a force of true evil on this distant planet called Gygax that had been toppled from his throne. And I don't know, my next note says, certain doom for all existence. I don't know what that's about. He was just like shot off into space and ended up in this kid's backyard. Right. Katie, can we play a quick little game before we get started on our review?
Starting point is 00:02:46 I would love to! Did you watch the Muddy Morphan Power Rangers? I didn't. I didn't think you would have. You're probably too old to have watched that. Yeah. The monsters in this movie definitely reminded me of the creatures from the Muddy Morphin Power Rangers. Wait, if I was too old, what were you doing?
Starting point is 00:03:05 Huh? Okay. What's that? You're 10 years older than me, sir? Emotionally though? I'm gonna give you the name of a monster and you tell me whether or not it was a real muddy morphine power ranger monster or not. Are you ready? Are you ready? Yeah. Pudgy pig. Yes. Chunky chicken? What about chunky chicken? What about chunky chicken? Please tell me it is too? It is. Really?. Really? Yeah. How about Mr. Ticklesnazer? Yeah. Oh I hate that. I hope it's not real. It's not real. It is real. Oh my god. How about nasty night? Nasty Nate? Nasty Knight. Oh. True. True with a K as well.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Oh, that's absolutely real. Were these were all real monsters from the mighty Morphan Power Rangers? Yeah, you might enjoy Snizzard. Is that real? That sounds like something Snoop Dog said when it was snowing outside. It is real. We're gonna snizzer. How about Babe Ruthless? No, you can't say that.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Yeah, they did. Are these, wait, what's happening right now is you're reading me a list of them? Yes, I am. None of them have been fake. I'm going to throw in one to see if you get whether or not it's fake. Okay, okay, okay. Okay. Pumpkin wrapper?
Starting point is 00:04:54 What? No,'s rapper with an R. Okay. Lizza Nader? Fine, real true. Donald Trump, Jr. Oh, that's a real monster. That's a real, real monster. And finally, Oysterizer. No.
Starting point is 00:05:22 This makes me want to watch the Mighty Borough of Power Rangers. I've never watched it. I just know what the monsters look like they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they th. th. th. tho thi. thi. thozy. thozy. thozy. th. th. thozy. Liziziziz- th. Lizz. Lizz. Liz- th. Liz-I th. Liz-I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. L. L. thi tho. Li tho. Li thooo. Li thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Morph and Power Rangers. I've never watched it. I just know what the monsters look like. What do they look like? They look like the monsters in this movie. They're all like big and puffy and ridiculous and their mouths don't move accurately. The mout's not moving was very upsetting. It's like watching an Argento movie. It was definitely one of those things where I was like, oh, it's on purpose. Okay, I got you. I got you. I mean, the aesthetic of this is very like well designed but cheaply done. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Which I think I can get behind. Sure, it felt extremely DIY. Yeah. And very Canadian as well.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Very Canadian. Yeah. Delightfully so. So there are two little kids, Luke and Mimi. Luke appears to be the older sibling, but Mimi is clearly running the show. Shit, she's amazing. Is she? I feel like she's a like, if someone did a gritty reboot of Pippy Longstocking, it would just be Mimi. Oh my god. I don't, so that's why I think there hasn't been a gritty reboot of Pippie Longstocking, it would just be Mimi. Oh my God. Oh my God, I don't see, that's why I think there hasn't been a gritty reboot of Pippy Longstalking. It's just a nightmare child.
Starting point is 00:06:32 Yeah, I mean, at first I thought, wow, this child's like a precocious little shit. And then by the end I was like, the most evil being in the universe has been conquered by legit the most evil being in the universe, which is a 10-year-old girl. She's terrible. I mean, like, her parents are fighting, but I can't, she, there's something wrong with her. When she says Grandma is in hell forever, I was like, holy fuck, this kid should be hospitalized. Do you think it's grandma? No, I told you grandma is in hell forever.
Starting point is 00:07:14 That is that shit. And so fucking funny. I laughed for a really long time after she said that. I laughed when the kid time after she said that. I laughed when the kid asked the dad if monsters were real and he said, in a lot of ways, humans are the real monsters. So I'm going to say yes. And the mom's just like this fucking douchefack.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I mean, why marry and procreate twice with Greg? Yeah, no, Greg is not, Greg's not father material in any way. She'll perform. Greg's not material for anything, yeah. So the kids are playing crazy ball, which is a game that Mimi made up the rules for, which is just insane. And if you get a switcheroo, which is where your ball smack in midair,
Starting point is 00:08:09 and then you run up and punch the other person before they punch you, were you just giggling about ball smacking in the air? Yeah. Is that okay? Yeah, no, and I fully support it. And, and Luke loses, so she says he has to dig his own grave. And then in the next scene, he has dug most of his own grave. And she's yelling at him that he's too slow in digging his own grave.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Like, are you really going to go through with this whole buried alive notion? Like, why do children have no oversight? I am 100% sure that this movie is a completely different movie if they don't find the jewel on the top of this casket and she just kills her brother. Yeah, it sounds like a Lars Van Buncher movie. Or Heavenly Creatures, too. Like it's just going to go off the rails. Not that this movie doesn't go off the rails, because what they find is a gem. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:09:09 What's that gem that controls psycho-Gorman? Whose name before it's psycho-Gorman is the, what is it, the, archduke of nightmares? I fucking love that though. I want to be the Archduchess of something but I don't think that's a real thing. Archduchess? Yeah, why not? Anything's possible. I'm the Archduchess of business pajamas.
Starting point is 00:09:41 I fully support your kingdom or fiefdom or whatever you might have. My duchy. So PsychoGormann busts out of the earth, walks to a warehouse, interacts with three nere-dewels who were stealing like silver cups from people's houses. Yeah, who has these things? It's like in Home Alone, like when they dump out what the things they've stolen and it's all candlesticks and you're like, no electronics? It's just, they were stealing things pre-1900. Yeah, well, that's a good, tu-cutter
Starting point is 00:10:16 cup is sure going to fetch a pretty penny. But I loved it when the one guy called him a dickless shit, and I was like, ooh, that's a good bad combination of swear words. It absolutely is. But this monster rules, he just rips this guy. I was like, he rips his head off and then he, and then, and then, and, ah, like the scene is just such a fucking delight. The one guy's like, I don't want to die and he says, well then live forever? And curses him to live forever. How can he do that? He's so powerful. Yeah, he's such a powerful demon man.
Starting point is 00:10:52 He's the archduke of nightmares. I like his design a lot. I like his back spikes. I like the way he looks a lot. Yeah, yeah, yeah. His giant neck. Yeah. Uh-huh, and then we cut to Luke and Mimi and they're looking at the busted up backyard. And Luke's like, we should call the cops. And Mimi just goes, I don't trust the cops. Not one bit. That's what she says. So they follow the tracks of the alien to the warehouse. She also says to her brother, can you dig it? Which I was like, is that is that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. thi the the the the the thi thi thi to to to to to to the to to to look to look. to look to look. to look to look to look to look to look to look to look to look to look. to look. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. the the the. theuu. the. thi. the thi. thi. thi. he he he he he he tracks of the alien to the warehouse. She also says to her brother, can you dig it? Which I was like, is that a reference to the warriors?
Starting point is 00:11:28 Like, what's happening? Can you dig it? Again, like, this is, did I write this movie? Like, it's so ridiculous. This felt like crawling around inside your brain, I have to tell you. Oh, okay. I was like, I was like, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is like, is like, I, I, I, I, I, I that, I, I that, I that, I, like, I that, like, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is that, is. This felt like crawling around inside your brain, I have to tell you. Oh, okay. I was like, I feel like Alan, fucking, this is, this is Alan. This is what he dreams about. So they follow the tracks to the warehouse.
Starting point is 00:11:57 They meet Psycho Gorban. And she's like, I got this jewel. Does this control you? Yeah, right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. th, right. th, right. th, right. th, right. thi, right. thi, thi, thi, thi? thi? thi? thi? thi. thi. thiole? thi. thi. thiole. thiolk. thiolk. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. toeeeea. to. toeea. toea. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to kill them and she's like I got this jewel does this control you? Yeah right how does she know but she does she does yeah and they name him psycho goorman I like that they do a lot of brainstorming before they get there though and I also thought it was sweet that she combined her idea and Luke's idea to come up with the final name yeah but he does say I don't see how that's better than Archduke of Nightmares. He has so many good deadpan lines in this movie.
Starting point is 00:12:31 Yeah, when he's just like drowned in a sea of their own blonde, and you're like, what? Hey, it was nice to meet you. It'd be nicer if you were dead. Okay. Okay. Poor Alistair though. I do not understand why this happened to him. It's so funny. Can you, okay, just can you just talk me through why poor Alistair needs to be a giant brain person? Oh, I don't know. I don't know why that happened. Okay. Other than, oh, because Mimi's like, I want him to stay with us. Can you do something
Starting point is 00:13:14 to make him stay? So, Sagoorman's like, yes, I can. And he turns him into a giant brain person. That's his way of making him stay. At the end of the movie, when he's just, when he's sitting down with his parents eating and they're just ignoring him while he like flops around with his weird tentacal hands, it's just heartbroken. It's so silly. But also very like, I guess they've just accepted that this is their son now. I think they're just, I think it was a commentary on like parents' interest, thiii in dis interest dis interest dis interest dis interest dis interest dis interest dis interest dis interest in dis interest in their disthis is their son now? I think they're just I think it was a commentary on like parents disinterest in their children in suburbia or something. They want they want PG aka psycho-goreman to stay in the warehouse and Mimi's like just to read these magazines of Hunky Boys. He goes I don't like
Starting point is 00:14:04 hunky boys or do I? Yeah I do not care of Hunky Boys. And he goes, I don't like Hunky Boys, or do I? Yeah, I do not care for Hunky Boys. That's like around where I stopped taking notes. Okay, yeah, I got very loosey-goosey with my notes. It turns out if I really like a movie, I would just want to watch it. Yeah, I felt like when I was taking notes on this movie, my feeling was mostly just why am I doing this? Like, what is this going to get me? I did write down that he said, that is a tail bathed in the blood of a million dead memories,
Starting point is 00:14:32 which is just like... It's so ridiculous. That's it. So, P.G. P.U.U. uses the TV and like casts a spell to talk to his buddies to get them to come and get him? Which has to be Terror Vision, right? Yeah, for sure. It's a cute little nod to Terror Vision.
Starting point is 00:14:52 It's a cute big nod to Terror Vision. And when that happened, it was like, oh no, Katie hated Terror Vision. I have like fond feelings towards it though for having been the our live show movie. For sure. Yeah. It's really really bad though. Hard disagree but I appreciate you. Thanks. I appreciate you too. So he turned to Halestair into a giant brain monster. They start a band. Was that a fantasy or was that happening? No it wasn't because it couldn't have been a fantasy because later in the movie when they sing the song Dad already knows the lyrics. That's true. I'm the heck and best.
Starting point is 00:15:34 The heck and best. Oh, I love the idea that she could tell Psycho Gorman to play drums and he figures it out and plays drums. I mean like everybody needs a drummer, right? Nobody has a drummer. It's true. It's true. So many bass players, no, not enough drummers.
Starting point is 00:15:52 Isn't that a lyric from, isn't it ironic? Uh, ha ha ha ha. So they've got Psycho Gorman living with them. The parents are apparently cool with this It's a weird I don't understand what the parents deal is is it just that they're so wrapped up in themselves That they don't care that their daughter has a literal murdering monster living in their home controlled only by an object that she holds in her hand that he's always trying to take from her Yep. Okay. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:28 But that also does yield a really funny scene of where she's like, don't be worried. He just says stuff like that, to which PsychoGorman goes, be very worried. Be very worried. Be very worried. I have a note here that's a shopping montage, because they go on a shopping montage. That's right, that, that, that, that, that, that's, that's, that's, okay, that's, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that montage because they go on a shopping montage.
Starting point is 00:16:46 That's right around when I had the note. We're eating ice cream so no notes right now. Oh, what kind did you have? It was Ohio Buckeye. Oh, where the fuck did you get that? That's like Grater's ice cream, man. I gotta get into that. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:03 I don't want that. Yeah, I got a giant nickel. Market district. Yeah, yeah. I don't want to go in market district. You can also get it to Whole Foods, if you want to order from Whole Foods and have it delivered. Oh, I might do that. I always get gelato from whole foods.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Say that, like, can you think of a more perfect word to say with the Pittsburgh accent? No. You you. You you. You you. You you. Like. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I that, I that, I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, I that, I the Pittsburgh Act. No, you got so beautifully yinser on that. I'm gonna go home and eat my gelato. I got vanilla. No, no. Not mocha? Moka. Double chocolate. Double chocolate.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Did you like that they were in Spangler Springs? I mean, no. Did you? I was fine with it, but it was like, hey, we know guys. We know, we got it. You have other things. I hear you. So, basically Psycho Gorman had like, at some point raised an army of bad guys that he then calls upon to come and help him. Yeah. Uh-huh. They are, can you talk to me about,
Starting point is 00:18:13 what are they called the palatins of... Oh, I didn't write it down. Yeah. Paladins of obsidian. So silly. So this is when I was getting like strong, um, uh, Money Morphine Power Rangers vibes. Like, this in the council, that's meeting to talk about him, with Pandora and all those people, when, like, because nobody looks like anybody else.
Starting point is 00:18:43 So it's just like all these random looking, like, the one of the Palindins is just a walking cemetery. Yeah, right. How, how? Was one a wine barrel or something? Yeah, with like skulls stuck in it and stuff. Why though? I think it was a blood barrel.
Starting point is 00:19:03 Gotcha. One of them was like a nightmare witch. That is, I is definitely from, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is like, is, is like, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the? I think it was filled with blood. I think it was a blood barrel. Gotcha. One of them was like a nightmare witch. That is definitely from like a reference to something, because that image is very familiar to me. Sure. Yeah, yeah. But it was just, and then like, yeah, and then the leader of them, the one that was wearing the crown looked like some sort of wooden imp for something, like it was also weird. Apparently there are also
Starting point is 00:19:27 references to Warhammer 40,000 in this, like the pyramid. Rob was like, that's ripped straight out of Warhammer 40,000 and I was like, okay buddy. Calm down nerd. You can leave now. You don't have to stay for this. He did not. Oh no he wasn't enjoying psycho-gore. No he watched it, he watched it. How could you walk away from this film? I mean... You're just going to see what's going to happen next. But the paladins have been living a much better life since they rid themselves of psycho-goreman so they just want to kill him now. Yeah, and Mimi is going to let them because he has tried to basically get the palatins of obsidian to kill Mimi and Luke.
Starting point is 00:20:10 Yeah, yeah. All it takes is him apologizing, though, for her to let him kill them. Yeah, uh-huh. Why is that such, there's a weird thing about apologies? And I can't figure out what their thuuuuuuu they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they what the message is. I don't know. It's, this movie is like wholly inappropriate for children. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:31 But seems like it is completely written for children. It's like the, it's, it's the cotton candy of movies. Like you put it in your mouth and it just melts away to nothing. Like there's nothing here. There's literally nothing here. Except, and later you're like, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, this, like, this, this, this, this, it, it, it, this, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's like, it's like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's like, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it is, it is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, thi is, thi is, thi is, thi is, thi is, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this this this this this this is like, is like, is like, is like, it just melts away to nothing. Like there's nothing here. There's literally nothing here. Except, and later you're like, am I recalling this movie or a dream that I had? Or? I watched this two days ago and I'm not even sure of what I saw and what I didn't see. So she lets him kill the paladins and there's this, like, this fight scene in the movie I was like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, and thi, and thi, and th. th. they, and they, and they, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and the, and they...... And, and they. they. they. they. they. they. th. th. th. thi. th. the thi. th. the the th. the that, and the they. the the they. the the they. the they. the, and the, adins and there's this like this fight scene in the movie I was like,
Starting point is 00:21:06 oh, now this craziness has just become kind of boring. Did you feel that way? Yeah, I felt like it was just going on for too long. I wanted him to get back to Mimi being a goofball. She's not being a goofball though. She's being a adorable little kid. No, I strongly disagree because I feel like my kid is definitely going to be like a precocious little shit. You know what I mean? Sure. Sure. But like this is bad. This is like you want to get, I mean if you had two children and one forced the other to dig their own grave, I feel like you'd have like a modicum of concern. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. clear. I feel like this is definitely the never going to have kids versus the have as a child,
Starting point is 00:21:51 like perspective on things. Also, like, this totally doesn't matter at all. It doesn't matter if Mimi is terrible. It doesn't matter if Luke is just trawed upon. It doesn't like, it doesn't matter if the witch is referencing something. Doesn't matter why there's a wine barrel. It just doesn't matter. The whole thing with Luke like the parents just being like yeah just do what she wants. Just go along with this. They're even like taking Psycho Gormie into like a diner and nobody's stopping her.
Starting point is 00:22:23 So I think everybody is afraid of this child. Oh man, is there anything scarier that a there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there's there's there there there there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there there there there there th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. the the the the the the to be to be to be to be to be the the throooooooooooooo the the the nobody's stopping her so I think everybody is afraid of this child. Is there anything scarier than a 10-year-old girl? I mean yeah I can think of several things. So she has taught a psycho-gore man had a play crazy ball at one point. Right. When they were... This is when the cops attack them? The cops just come running out of their car shooting their guns at him. With two small children. That's, is this where...
Starting point is 00:23:00 Yes, when they're in the empty lot and he turns the cop into that nightmare creature? Yeah, yeah. Apparently Christopher, what is it? No, I'm sorry, Stephen Kostansky, the writer and director of this movie, did a short called zombie cop, so that was a nod to something that he did himself. Gotcha. Wait, he hat-tipped himself? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Okay. I mean, if you're going to reference everything else, you might as well put your own stuff in there, too. You're gonna run out of things that have to start talk about stuff you did. It's true. Did he... That cop, I had a lot of, I had a hard time with that cop, handing her a note that said, please kill me. And her a heart-shaped Valentine that said, please kill me.
Starting point is 00:23:48 And her only response was, that was such a nice card with such a gross message. Yeah, written in blood. And the cuff keeps trying to shoot himself in the head. It was all very upsetting for a child to have to see. Very upsetting. It was very upsetting for me to have to see. Very upsetting. It was very upsetting for me to have to see. Have we mentioned that this whole time the brain monster Alistair has been following them around? I just don't understand. He's so sad. He still can talk. He talks like the child, Alistair. It was just a nice little boy, seemingly.
Starting point is 00:24:27 I'm looking at the Wikipedia and it just says, one day while out with PG and the mutated Alistair playing crazy ball, like that's just a thing you do. I mean, yeah, it's day-to-day life here in this weird family, which suddenly there's like a lot of domestic unrest where Greg and Susan are just yelling at each other constantly. Yeah, because Greg is lazy shitbones. Yeah, and so they end up basically like splitting the family in which Greg decides to support Mimi and her psycho-Gorman companion.
Starting point is 00:25:11 And Susan and Luke are like, this is out of hand. I feel like as a mandatory reporter, I should probably report this movie and Greg for being such a shit parent. Like, part of me was watching the acting of this little girl who was great. And being like, your parents, like, your parents, the their the parent. And, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, and her, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their their their their their, their, their part of me was watching the acting of this little girl who was great. And being like, your parents are watching you do this, you know? Like, your parents permitted this. I just sort of felt bad. I want to know the, like, her coming down from these scenes, how long that must have taken to get her
Starting point is 00:25:45 to be like a decent human being again? I know, I know. I can't even imagine. Probably she's probably still wild. Uh-huh. You think she's not acting, this is just this child? My kid is like still wild from ice cream I gave her a year ago. You know what I mean? Kids take forever to get over themselves.
Starting point is 00:26:09 Oh man. There's a whole like subplot where PG is trying to get Luke to give him the jewel. And then, uh, Meebie is jokingly telling P.G. to kill Luke. Which is fucked? The child is fucked! She's a total sociopath. She's a monster. She's a real monster.
Starting point is 00:26:36 She, I guess humans are the real monsters, and little girls are the worst of them all. So, the council has sent back Pandora, who is like an alien creature with these flappy things on her face. Yeah. And she teams up with Susan and Luke. It's like very, it's very weird when she turned Susan into a monster also. A junior Pandora. Not seem to be bummed on it at all. Yeah, she was down to fight. DTF.
Starting point is 00:27:08 Did you... All right, so when Pandora gets to Earth, she meets a woman on the street and assumes her body? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, was not the woman they brought... Oh, that's not the woman they brought onto the ship. Remember how that woman just appears in her, like, it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Do you think that was a hat tip to critters where they assume the bodies of the people when they land on
Starting point is 00:27:33 earth? Wait, which one was critters? It's a little ball monsters. It's got a, the guy from Leonardo DiCaprio? Billy Zane. Billy Zane? This is a movie we've done? Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the two is set, the two like space assassins. One becomes a rock star, the other becomes like the town trunk. They assume their bodies when they get to earth. Like this sounds vaguely familiar. has hair, he's dating the daughter of the family, and he gets attacked and killed in a barn. Yeah, that all sounds very familiar.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Okay. Okay. Then yes, probably. If you think it's a hat to critters that I do too. I love how critters is just a looted your memory. See a lot of those ones like critters and slither not shivers, and like, just ones with little creatures that aren't the gate I get real mixed up on. Okay, sure. Mm-hmm. I think all of a similar vibe.am up to take out Psycho Gorman.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Psycho Gorman says I challenge you to a duel or whatever, but Mimi gets to pick the game. And of course she picks Crazy Ball. In poor Pandora has no idea of the rules of Crazy Ball. How could you? How could you? I've heard the rules explain multiple times that have no idea what's going on. I think that the mom, the mom knows the rules too and she like turns to Pandora and she's like, do fucking jumping jacks. What? And Pandora says what are jumping jacks again? Why would a space alien know what jumping jacks are?
Starting point is 00:29:13 Why would a space alien need to do jumping jacks? Truly like why does anyone do jumping jacks? But that's a different story. Oh, they're also, they're fighting in an abandoned shoe factory. Right, that appears to be like the seedyest part of their town is the abandoned shoe factory. In one point the dad just looks at it and goes, I remember when they used to make shoes here. What? What? Greg. And so, fucking stop. What are the teams are like team?
Starting point is 00:29:51 I can't remember. Mimi names the teams and she's like, calls them like team suckers. And then her team is team something. It's very silly. Something that's a 10-year-old girl would say. Yeah, and her team is is is is her her the is her the is her that the is the is the-year-old girl would say. Yeah, and her team is her dad, Psycho Gorman and her, and the other side is Pandora, Pandora Jr. and Luke. And Psycho Gormann's team wins. Of course, he's got Mimi on his side.
Starting point is 00:30:16 I've got Mimi. Mimi. He does not lose. She does not lose. Susan loses her powers to save Mimi, which is very sweet. And then there is the long like reconciliation scene. I don't know that this family should reconcile. I genuinely think that Greg and Susan should get divorced and split the children, because I feel like Luke has a future. Sure, yeah, if Susan can get him out of that toxic situation.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Yeah, I mean like his life is really unfair. But how long until Mimi kills her father if left alone with him? I mean, that's no one's problem but Greg's at that point. Sure. But they, she can't apologize to him, so she just sings the, um, hecka awesome or whatever that song was. I'm the heck and best. I'm the heck and best. And taps out, I'm sorry, and like they're Morse code.
Starting point is 00:31:20 She literally says, I can't say it out loud, but, and then taps it out. Like, you're a bad person. Your parents are letting you become this way. I mean, yes, she's on her way to be like a female serial killer. What there's not a lot of those out there, so that's exciting. No, it's true. I feel the serial killer feel needs to be more diverse. It's almost exclusively white men. It's like tech of 10 years ago. There's probably some overlap. Anyway, Susan and Greg reconcile two for reasons I do not get.
Starting point is 00:31:58 And PG is so taken with their affection. Because Mimi gives him his jewel back and he's like, I don't need it anymore. I've seen your love and I will use that to fuel my destruction of the galaxy. What? It's so fucking insane. It's, and then it just, you just see him like destroying cities full of people. Yeah, but they're spared. The four of them are spared. I'm not going to kill you, but everybody else. And it just walks through a portal and starts blowing up their town.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Yeah. And they're just watching it, the family's watching it and hugging, like, well, we're safe. I love this, I'm happy. It all worked out for the best, didn't it? And that's when we learned the true meaning of Christmas. Yeah. Yeah. And then the final scene is, as alluded to earlier, Alistair having dinner with his parents who aren't paying attention the fact thi's a giant bl............ to thi. It to thi. It to to thi. It thi. It all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it's thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi, it's thi, it all, it all, it all, it's thi, it's thi, it's their, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it. That felt to me like the scene at the end of Welcome to the Dollhouse where Don Weiner
Starting point is 00:33:12 is just sitting on the bus singing the song, like, I don't know, I got a very bad vibe from that scene. This is such a peculiar movie. It is, it is. It is, it is, like, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it, it, it, it, yeah, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it feels, it, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels, it feels. the. the. the, it feels. the, it feels. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, I. I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it feels like so much like, this work of love and like, this passion project almost of just like, but like, what someone would show it to you and be like, oh, okay, you got it, buddy. It's like a project of love and madness. Oh, so you're insane. I got you, I got you? Yeah. Yeah. Well, shall we rate it? Please. You go first. I had a really good time watching this movie. It's very silly. It's very over the top. I loved Mimi. I loved and I am terrified of her.
Starting point is 00:34:10 I feel like I should say that I love her so she doesn't come and kill me. Fair. I thought all the monsters were great. I thought all the scenes on the planet were great. Like those interstitial things of like his backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory backstory, like his back back back back back back back back back, like his back, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I had like, like, like, like, I had thi, I had thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, I thi thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that itial things of like his backstory. I'm gonna give this movie an eight. I thought it was really fun. Wow. I would think people should see this.
Starting point is 00:34:32 A friend of the podcast, Ben from the, what is it, Dead and Lovely podcast, saw this movie and sent me a message. It was like, you need to do this. You need to watch this movie and sent me a message. It was like, you need to do this. You need to watch this movie right now. Stop what you're doing and go watch this movie. Yes, dead and lovely. So yeah, I agree with him.
Starting point is 00:34:55 I did need to do that. Do you feel better having seen it? For sure. Yeah, this was like, I was more excited to see this. thou I liked freaky a lot more the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, thi thi, thi, the, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thoing, thoing, thoing, thoing, thoing, thi, thoing, the, the, and the, the, and the, the, and the, the, and the, and the, the. thi. thi. the an thean. thean. thean. thean. thean. theanan. thean. theanananann'n' thi. thi.this of the two movies that were, you know, Freaky and this. I was more excited to see this, though I liked Freaky a lot more. But yeah, I was very excited to see this ridiculous movie. How about you? Nice. I really enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:35:15 I thought it was a lot of fun. It makes no sense. There are no themes. Like I said, it's cotton candy, tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I was, it's, it's, it's cotton. I was, it's, it's, it's, thi. thi. thi. to. I was, to. I was, to. I, to. I, to. I, to. I, th. I, th. I. I. I, it. I. I, it. I. I. I. I. I. I, you start to chew and it's gone. Like, it's just such a, I think if you can get yourself to give up any sense of trying to understand anything, if you can just totally suspend disbelief and just sort of like be absorbed into this weird, peculiar world, but it's just such a, such a particular, like, I don't know how to describe it. It's just like such a, such a particular, it's just like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, just such a particular like, I don't know how to describe it. It's just like such a particular flavor of weird, you know? Sure. It's a really enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half. I don't think it's a good movie. I mean I think that the design, the monster design is great. I know I would not call this a good film but I also had so much fun watching it. So I'll, I'll give it a to to th, th, I th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to describe to to to to to to to to describe to to describe to describe to describe to describe to describe to describe to describe to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the the the thi the the the the thi. the the thi. the thi. thi thi. I thi thi to thi to thi. I think the design, the monster design is great. I would not call this a good film, but I also had so much fun watching it.
Starting point is 00:36:08 So I'll give it a seven and a half. I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of my favorite scenes, which was her attempting to pray to Jesus, and then being like, nah, fuck you, there's a new god in town and breaking the crucifix over her leg? Yeah, that's wild. And the whole time I was like, you've made a child do that? That's what I'm saying when I thought about child actors, like her mom was like, oh yeah, no, she can do that. I don't know. It feels gross a little bit, doesn't it? It does. I can't imagine you taking Lucy somewhere and being like, yeah, yeah, that's fine. Yeah. Yeah. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. Hell. H. H. H. H. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole the whole the whole the whole. the whole. the whole the whole the whole the whole the whole the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. the whole. I's. I's. I's. I's. I's. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's. the the the being like, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's fine. Yeah, hell no. Hell no, indeed. I would like to read you a message we got from a Patron. Oh, I'd love to hear one. This is from Torrey in St. Louis, who said...
Starting point is 00:36:59 Who cardinals. What are they? A sports team? Uh-huh? Want to guess which one? Well, isn't there a Cardinals football tea? H the th? H th. Uh-huh. Want to guess which one? Well, isn't there a Cardinals football team and a Cardinals baseball team? Well, you're going to have to tell me which one we're looking at here. Well, the same those Cardinals are a baseball team. They've got a great logo. Yeah, good work. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:19 What, they have a what? Fuck other teams. Go, fuck those. Spring training, baby, pitchers and catchers, woo. Did you see pitchers and catchers woo? Yeah. Fuck the outfield. Well, pictures and catchers report first to spring training. It doesn't matter. Like, seriously, don't make me justify this. I can appreciate team's logos, though.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Yeah, sure, fine, whatever. Fuck, other teams. Uh, Torrey, I'm sure you're wonderful. I bet you're not a Cardinals fan. It's fine. How are you? I wanted to know if you guys would ever do the original Lake Placid. Is there a remake of Lake Placid? Just to hear the best line of the movie when she tells the sheriff, if I had a dick, this is where I'd tell you to suck it. Oh my god, Betty White.
Starting point is 00:38:15 What a fucking treasure though, am I right? Really, she really is. Yeah. Wow, that's a treasure. Also, Tori, you're a treasure. Thank you for being a patron. Thank you so much. She says, I love the podcast and I've been listening for a long time. It's the highlight of my Monday's. Thank you so much for doing what you do with how crazy 2021, or 2020 was and how 2021 is turning out. This podcast gives me a place to escape and just not not deal with the crazy. Well, I'm glad we can be that. That's what we're here for. I'm sorry if I've been a little moody lately. It's been hard. I'm trying to keep it under control.
Starting point is 00:38:51 I feel like all of us deserve a gold star for making it this far into this bullshit. I mean, what am I even going to do with a gold star. It's not that I can't have nice things, it's just why would I? It's so much more fun to break them. Oh man, I sometimes think about just taking a dish out back onto my patio and smashing it. Did I ever tell you about the time that I was in Rome for New Year's? I'm not sure. Tell me again, if not. So they have this, um, in, in Rome. It it, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, th, that, that, that the time that I was in Rome for New Year's? I'm not sure. Tell me again, if not.
Starting point is 00:39:26 So they have this, in Rome, it's a New Year's tradition to break things on New Year and then buy new for the New Year. Oh, okay. Capitalism at its finest. Exactly. So, I'm like, the fucking came up with that one. A department store guy was like, ha ha ha ha. So I'm like exhausted on the streets of Rome. I don't know where the fuck I am.
Starting point is 00:39:51 I'm just wandering around. And I'm excited because I know people are gonna break things, right? Because I love breaking things. That was also the time when I walked around a corner and there's three police officers with fully automatic machine guns on their chests and each of them is chugging a bottle of champagne and I was like, oh that's going to end well. Yeah, I love that look.
Starting point is 00:40:12 So we found this like, this plaza where this opera singer was singing opera and all these people were just hanging out and it hits midnight and this old woman is sitting next to me, she opens her coat, pulls out a dinner plate, wings it onto the ground, and leaves. I love that. I was like, Italy rolls! Italy is great. That sounds so fun. So all that is to say, yeah, break some shit. I think it would feel great. You're ancestors are out there smashing stuff every New Year's. Yeah, it's true. Well, I'll make them proud. I mean, if you ever want to like drink 40s down by the train tracks and then smash the
Starting point is 00:40:53 bottles, I'm 100% in. So. What do we do with the broken glass then? You leave it on the train tracks for the trains to run run run run run run run to run to run run to run I ask her, and who, because she'll be like somebody littered and I'll say, and who litters, she'll go, people with no future. Tell that to me in my 20s. I broke a lot of bottles on train tracks. Look at me now. Katie. What do you want to do next week?
Starting point is 00:41:26 Okay, so I get to, Alan picked this movie and he said we should pick something for next week and I thought why don't I just open up Netflix and see what looks terrible? So I picked the bye-bye man. It's on Netflix. I'm sure how bad can it be? It's on Netflix. It's got some bad can it be? It's on Netflix. It's got some famous people in it, right? It's got Fay fucking Donaway in it.
Starting point is 00:41:50 She did some movies. She's a famous person. She's a great actress. Yeah, and think this is going to be a great film, the Bye-bye man. The Bye-bye, man. You know that movie that movie that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that came that, that, that that that that that that that that that that that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that tha, that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that out 2017 and I've never fucking heard of with Fad Donaway. I just keep thinking of like a baby being like, bye bye. I'm like, if the killer is not a baby that says bye-bye the people after they kill them, I don't want to watch this. If that isn't what it is, we should make that. Okay. We'll call it the Bye-bye, man. Bye-bye.
Starting point is 00:42:28 Well, on that note, find us on the internet. You can give us a review anywhere that you listen to podcast. And we'd really, really, really appreciated if you did. And you can support us on Patreon if you want, Patreon. to tho. This will be free forever. Go bco. Go bco. Patreon if you want, Patreon.comback slash where all family else, but you don't have to. Starting point is 00:42:46 Go buckos. Go bucks. You know what? The fan graphs gave them a 0.4% chance of making the postseason this year. That's pretty good. And then Pirates, Twitter responded with just like some agonized, emoji or something. And Fan graphs replied, don't make us take away the point for. Ooh, fan graphs. Also, it couldn't even get to half a percent.
Starting point is 00:43:10 Is it accurate though? Oh yeah, there's no way they're making it. No. It's gonna be a fucking, they're gonna lose 100 games. I can't wait. It's gonna be terrible. That's something. It's a feathered cap.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Losing a hundred games? Yeah. Remember the time of the Detroit Lions lost every game of their season and still got paid and got to do stuff?
