Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 351- It (2017)

Episode Date: October 18, 2021

In this week's episode, we're trying desperately not to pronounce "clown" as "clahn" as we discuss the 2017 film "It." We'll be talking Chapter 2 next week but for now, special topics for your conside...ration include: 90s rock star fights, well-cast teens even if teens are kinda awful, a masterclass on practical vs. computer-generated effects, trying not to compare anyone to Tim Curry, top tier boy bands, and a reminder to be kinder to the children in our lives. Did you miss our first pass at "It" when we discussed the 1990 miniseries? It's Episode 97. Starting point is 00:00:00 Kee, the screarry. Hauteau. Hey Katie. Hey, Krusty. No, I'm scary. No, I'm scary. Are you? I mean, all clowns are scary, I guess.
Starting point is 00:00:14 Tell me more. Yeah, my name's Nickleback, the scary clown. No, I'm scary. Are you? I mean, all clowns. Are you? I mean all clowns are scary, I guess. Tell me more. Yeah, my name's Nickleback the Scary Clown. Nickleback? Yeah, you might know my cousin. Pennywise? Oh no. You didn't go with pound foolish, huh? Damn, that's good. What would Nickelback the Clown be like? Exactly like Nickelback the Band. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Are they the most hated band to ever exist? Yeah, and I think irrationally, there's way worse bands. Yeah, for sure. I mean, they're just like blandly bad. Yeah, right? It's like being mad at Hoie and the Blowfish. Yeah. Except that a friend of mine was beaten up by the guitar player when he was a young teenager.
Starting point is 00:01:09 Did he have it coming? I don't know. Okay, just asking. But it was just we would just make fun of him for being beat by the blowfish. Yeah. Not Hoody. My friend got into a Twitter war with John Papper. from Blues Traveler. And then like every so often John Popper would come back like if my friend tried to pick a fight with another celebrity or public figure John Popper would be like watch out for this guy he's crazy. He's not he works at
Starting point is 00:01:35 the State Department. Hi Rob if you're listening. I like John Puffer, Justice Warrior on the internet. Defending celebrities everywhere. Starting point is 00:01:54 One in front of you and three behind you. What are you doing with them? Oh man, making sweet songs for the 90s. That guy's a clan though. How many times do you think I can say clan instead of clown? Because I've been practicing saying clown this week. Because we're doing it. Oh, is that what we're doing? And then next week we're doing it too.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Yeah. It does. Brute. And so I've been practicing not saying clown. Why don't be ashamed of your accent. It's a beautiful accent. Clown. Clown. I got into an argument with Rob this week because he I could not hear the difference between bull and bull. Like I was saying bull in a china shop. Like I was saying bull in a china shop. Like I was saying bull in a china shop. It's just very confusing and they all bull sound the same to me. So he said bowl. Yeah. And versus bull. Those are the same fucking word.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Okay, I love it. Clan, let's go. The thing I love it with the Pittsburgh accent is that it causes word blindness. Yes, I know. I know. I can't see the word unattended. I'm into. I know. I can't see the word unattended. I just can't see it. Unattended I've got. It's got a lot of hard consonants. It's when things get mushy that it's hard for us. Like a mushy clown.
Starting point is 00:03:20 A mushy clan. He's a clown. I kind of want to race waxed boats in a rainstorm. I have to be honest with you. I will watch you do that. Because getting rained on socks. How does it? Yes. On a warm day? Yes. Because then you're, I hate to be wet. Okay. Okay. You're just going to run into that sawhors. It's true. I love that kid. that's, I, I, I, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, I to to thi. thi. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. the. the the. the. the the. the the the the thrush. the the the the thrash. the thrash. the. the thrash. the. the. the. the. the. true. Yeah. I love that kid running into that sawhors though. Tell me I didn't love it. Dude, I've done like as a kid when, especially when I was hitting a gross spurt and had lost all context of where my body is in the world and just like, wow, I'm just hitting
Starting point is 00:03:56 shit at maximum force and knocking herself on the ground. Just this weekend I was walking with some friends and I made a turned around to like make a stupid joke and as the punchline I walked right into the drain pipe on a house. Just rammed right into it. And I thought you and me both, Georgie. So this film moves the old times, up in time to 1988. Yes. I like that quite a bit. Yeah, it feels very Goonies, which is a film that I love. It is, it's so Goonies. Yeah. Even the second movie when they're all adults is very Goonies. Yes. But like Goonies for Grownups.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Yeah. Well I would like to go in a Goonies for Grownups adventure. Is that just a Gooney's adventure where there's beers? I think so, yeah. I think what we're describing is an escape room, actually. Which I have never done, and we'll probably never do. Yeah, no, I have a hard enough time getting out of my own house. Yeah. I'm not two different shoes. Where did my dog hide the shoes? So yes, we've moved up to 1988 or 89, 89, yeah. Yeah, and we see Billy and Georgie as Billy's waxing a boat for Georgie and it's very cute. Yeah, and this is like pretty, I'm gonna say the original even though it was a miniseries and not a theatrical release, but I think I can call it the original.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Yeah, the OG. This is pretty true to that. For sure. Yeah, and thi I I I I I I I I I I th, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi thi thiiiiiii thiiiiiiii. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi th pretty true to that. For sure. Until, yeah. Yeah. I mean, even like, Billy looks like you could pop him into the 50s, no problem though. Yeah. And he rides out like 1950s bicycle. And the idea of waxing a paper boat seems like a very 1950s thing to do. I mean, I was a child about Georgie's age in 1988 and I don't think we had like paraffin wax and home for any reason. Unless you melted a GI Joe down. You know, is that what it is? No, I don't know. You set them on fire, you know.
Starting point is 00:05:51 I did, I did, I did. I did, I did. So, too. So, Penny Wez is in the sewer, of course. Yeah. And it's the scars guard, but now think is weird looking again. He's, I think he's all of those things. I think so too. I think he's ET. Yeah. He's so weird looking that he's become cute.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Maybe. Yeah. Yeah. How do you feel about his pennywise? I love that he can move his eyes in different directions. So weird. That's so weird. Is he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he th. th. thi. thi. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. him just like on late-night talk shows with his eyes pointed in different directions, which I think is like very charming in some way where you're like, oh you're you fucking guy. There's, with the lines that go up his face, the like smile lines, like when he moves his eyes on the opposite
Starting point is 00:06:41 sides of those lines, it's very disconcerting. It's very disconcerting. And I assumed they were doing it in post, but I like that he can do that with his eyeballs. He can do that with his eyeballs. I think, you know, the only thing we have to compare it to is Tim Curry. I did not. Okay, how can you not? a dime from being like, I'm actually a funny clown, to I'm the most horrifying thing you've ever seen. This clown is never not terrifying.
Starting point is 00:07:12 No, even when he's doing the like, he, I'm a clown thing, you're not like, you know, I'll check this out. You're like, get the fuck away from me. I'm in a sewer. Well, that is true. Yeah. Yes, he is on 10 terrifying at all times. But also I don't find him that terrifying and I think it's because he doesn't flip like that. The Tim Curry flip is what makes it so scary to me. I was thinking about that and when he is supposed to become terrifying he becomes CGI. Yeah. And I think that breaks for me, breaks the terror of it. I think so too. But I also found myself identifying with the terror of the actors. So that was bringing me back into it. This film is so well acted. For sure. I like a bunch of kids who were
Starting point is 00:07:59 I mean other than the Stranger Things Kid. Yeah, like weren't in much of anything. Yeah, the Beverly's and stuff too, but I don't know what. I don't think before this, though. I think this was like pretty early on for her. Okay. Yeah, she was in the thing that filmed here, the where she has teleconetic powers, it was on Netflix. I'm not okay with this. canceled even though it was a wonderful exciting show. Yeah, that's all. Anyway. Yeah, Finn Wolfhard, which is an amazing name. I cannot believe that's someone's name.
Starting point is 00:08:31 The thing is that with that last name, no matter what you name your kid, they're gonna be cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Keith. Hi Keith's out there. Alan Wolfard. Yeah, yeah. You should change your name. Yeah. You should change your name to Alan Ambulance. Like you're in a punk band. Okay, Katie Maxie? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:54 I would. I would in a heartbeat if I thought anyone would call me that. Well, the DMV will call you that. Mr. Ambulant? Yeah, present. So he opens his big old clown mouth. The DMV will call you that. Mr. Ambulance? Present. So he opens his big old clown mouth by math. And chumps a little George's arm and takes the goddamn thing off.
Starting point is 00:09:14 He has so many teeth. Yeah, yeah. And you see like a one-armed child struggling across the street? It's a lot. It's a lot and like that lady neighbors reaction is not enough. No. When there's just a missing child and a pool of blood being in the rain, there's a scream involved in that. There is, and she's doing a lot of like, I wonder what that's about.
Starting point is 00:09:40 I mean, it's a lake of blood. Yeah. You get Alista, oh hell no. Yeah. Yeah. You get a Lisa. Oh, hell no. Yeah. Oh, no, he didn't, Pennywise. Uh, now we move forward to June. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:58 Uh. And Mike, we were introduced to Mike, who is trying to kill sheep. With his grandfather, who is X. Yes, he is. That guy is great. I love him. Yeah. He's so good when he shows up in anything. I feel like there's a couple X-Files references.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Oh, for sure. And I think sometimes that with the X files. But I really do think there are a number of references. Listen, I got an X files and now I just see X-Files. I got the whole box set. There are a lot of like subtle references throughout these two movies and a couple very not subtle references. We will discuss them. And his grandfather gives him a pep talk to kill the sheep that's basically like, if you can't do this, you can't do anything, and you'll always be a garbage person just like these fucking sheep, so go fuck yourself or kill that sheep right now.
Starting point is 00:10:55 And the kid doesn't kill the sheep. No, he does not. No, until later in the movie. And that's very sad. Yeah. Yeah. So we meet all of the losers. Yeah. Uh, Richie is playing Street Fighter, which I liked a lot. I figured you would. You did. Beverly gets trash thrown on her and called a slut by a thousand different people. Yeah. Stan is talking about his upcoming bar mitzvah.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Man, I really like Stan. Yeah, he's adorable. Yeah. Eddie is... This Eddie character is much different than the one in the miniseries. For sure. That Eddie was very meek and timid and like sickly. This one is more sass-mouthy. Yeah, he goes toe toe with Richie at all times. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I don't remember... I have not read the book. I have not read the book. I don't remember what th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thoer tho the character the character thoer thoer thoer thoer thoer thoer the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character what his the character what his the character what his the character what his the character what his the character what his the character what his the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character the character tho tho tho tho tho tho thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo thoo the tho the the tho times. Yeah. I don't remember, I have not read the book since I was way too young to have read the book. Sure. I don't remember what his character is like in the source material. No recollection. No. All right. This is a book that you read when you were 13 and you know you're reading a book that's a little above where you should be. Because there's like a lot of dicks in it. There's a lot of dicks. There's a lot. There's a the their. There's a their. There's a their. There's a their. There's a their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. t. t. t. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. it's just like, and it's that like Stephen King sex where it's like, have, but I, you have a child, so we know that's like. But the way he describes sex. And like, as a child, I love Stephen King books.
Starting point is 00:12:20 I still enjoy, like, once a year, I'll just like, I'm in the mood and I'll just read a Stephen King book. Sure. I think the last one I read was the Dead Zone. Very enjoyable. Was it? Yeah. Don't remember much about it at all. But like that's that's reading in your 40s though isn't it? Yeah and especially like little snacks like that even if they are 500 pages long. Yeah. There's such a sandwich. Soop can be a snack too. An entire bag of potato chips, whoops, he could be a snack. What's one serving, the whole bag? But he does not know how to write a sex scene that, like, he's putting truth to the statement that like, he puts lie to the statement that all sex scenes are supposed to be
Starting point is 00:13:05 sexy on some level. Okay. Because these are never sexy. No, they're always puzzling. Should her foot be there? What's happening right now, Stephen King? And like, do you need to write the sex scene, Stephen King? It's clearly not your forte? People love fucking. I'm Stephen King. Hey. And then we meet the bad guys. And Henry Bowers is so well cast. For sure. Because he's like 40 in there in the miniseries and he's like a disturbed child in this. For sure. He could have been one of the bullies in a Christmas story. Definitely. Definitely. And the guy who is Patrick is also very well cast and should play Joey Ramon in a Christmas story. Definitely, definitely. And the guy who is Patrick is also very well cast and should play Joey Ramon in a Joey. He should absolutely be
Starting point is 00:13:50 our Ramon. Yeah, probably Joey. Probably Joey. He's lanky like a Joey. It's just nice to see kids played by kids. For sure. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, we're watching that sex education show on Netflix. I don't know if you've watched it. It's great. It's great. It's nice. It's nice to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. to. too. to. to. to. toy. toy. toy. toy. th. th. th. th. the th. the sex education show on Netflix. I don't know if you've watched it. No, it's great. But it's for kids, right? No, it's for adults. Oh, I think someone just told me it was for teens. Kid, teens should not be watching the show. There are full-blown dicks in the show. Oh, no one told me there. These people are 25 years old. They're playing 16 year olds. I wish. What world?
Starting point is 00:14:26 Or what was the guy from Prom Night 29? Yeah. Street. The quarterback, yeah, he was a street. The one bully has a really sick anthrax t-shirt when we meet him. I have a note. Anthrax t-s t-shirt. Yeah. Then we hear anthrax. the soundtrack and I was like, very nice. I must have missed it. During the rock flight, they're playing antisocial by anthrax.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Okay, all right. We learned that Bill is like trying to find his brother, which he's done by building a scale model of the sewers. Out of a habit trail. Out of a, yeah, of like a hamster tube. And then he, it all falls thah thah thah thah thah all thulls, it all that all th, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, it all, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. that, that, that, that, th. th. the barons. And I was like, maybe don't label it that. Like, maybe if you don't want your parents to find out what you're doing, don't build this diorama. Quick question, do all the parents have to be monsters?
Starting point is 00:15:15 This was a really, this entire series of films, and I say entire series, though it was only two of them. Yeah, yeah, we th th th the th we th we th we th we th we th we th we th we th yeah, we th yeah, we th yeah, we thia thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that it was over five hours, the two of them. Yeah, yeah, we watch at least four films. Yeah, was just a good reminder to be nicer to my kid. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, maybe that's the tale he's trying to tell, or is it just supposed to be like kids perception of how parents are? I think maybe both. Yeah. And also just that this town is so evil that and these parents have become so accustomed to it that they too have like it's leached into them. Yeah, yeah. But also like we don't, I feel like we don't get a lot of that in this series. Like that's not really explored like the town being evil and the backstory and where it comes from and what it wants. It's a little bit implied that maybe, but it's like it seems to be just all concentrated in Pennywise. Yeah. But I was just like, so there's the interaction between Bill and his
Starting point is 00:16:11 dad when his dad's like, take this goddamn thing down, you're upsetting your mother. Yeah. Yeah. He just lost his brother. I know. That he was obviously close with. Yeah. And feels responsible yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I have a no dear reminder to me. Reminder. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to the to the the the to the the to the the the their their the the the to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I have an no dear reminder to me, reminder to self, be nicer to Lucy. I've only ever seen you be extremely loving with your child. Yeah, it's because I don't, that's what I do in public. I'm not public. I know. You've also definitely seen me yell at it. Yeah. So Ben and Beverly meet, and there's like this little meat cute. The actor playing Ben, I want to put him in my pocket. He is so cute and he's just nailing that like that kid character.
Starting point is 00:16:55 I just love him. So as a fat blonde kid, who do you think I identified with this? Oh my god? Yeah. Oh, he's adorable. I can remember people making fun of my tits when I was a young kid for sure. So it was just like, oh man, Stephen King, you really hit home. Yeah. People made fun of my tits too, but only because I didn't grow until I was like 19. It was hard days. But kids are awful. Kids are monsters. Oh, also Betty Ripsom's? Betty Ripsom, yeah. And her mom's waiting for her to get out of school,
Starting point is 00:17:34 which is just a very sad scene. It's heartbreaking. But also that they kept the name Betty, even though it is no longer the 1950s. All right. Batman's on the marquee at the theater. I like that, because that's the one I've seen. Also, Nightmare on Street 5 on the Marquis.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Yes, in the second movie. No, it's in the first one. I watched these on Back to Back Nights, I'm confused. It's in the first one, that was out in 1989. I was like, fucking gouget, miss. Did she, she guget? She gugged, it was. It was. Then movie will always hold a special place in my heart. Five? Five. Five, the dream child, because that was when I announced that I was pregnant. The worst movie. I'm pregnant. I gave it a gouged. I gave it a gouged. I was a horror. I the the the the the the movie. I was. I was. I was. I was a the movie. I was a the movie. I was a the movie. I was a the movie. I was a the movie. I gave it. I gave. I gave. I gave it. I gave. I gave it. I gave it a goog, horror films while pregnancy. That was the first one that came up and I thought, nailed it. First off or best offer, you know what I mean? I wonder, because people listen to these wildly out of order, so like for years they've been listening to about Lucy and then they'll go back and
Starting point is 00:18:35 listen to that and be like, oh shit, this is the beginning of it all. She got raw dodogged. You know you've broken me and that's all I can think when I see pregnant people now. But they got raw-dogged. Yeah, good for them. Good for everyone. So Stan's fear is this woman playing the flute in this painting, which I think the painting is very creepy. And I really like that shot, you're the POV of the painting and he's adjusting the frame, which first of all why would he touch it? It's so scary. Uh, because his dad's a dick. Yeah, Rabbi, Rabbi, Dickhead. Yeah. And he doesn't want his dad to be mad that it's not where it's supposed to be. Silly. And then it comes out of the wall and attacks him. I liked, so I like, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so I, so, so, so, so, so, the the, the, the, the, the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the, the the the, the the the the, the the, the the the, the the the the the the, the the, the the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. th. th. thi, th. thi. th. th. thi. thi. th. thi. th. thi. th. thi, th. th. th. th like the, there's like this really nice shot where you're the painting and he tilts it.
Starting point is 00:19:27 And then he like opens a door, a closet door, something, closes it and then the horror lady with the flute and the painting is gone. It's just a blank canvas. Yeah, yeah. Oh shit. That's good. That's good. And then, silent. And then silent hill, they.. And, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their, the, their, the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th.... It's, theat.... thea..... the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the lot of Silent Hill running out of the dark and it was somehow scarier in Silent Hill for me. Because it was a big booby nursery? Those
Starting point is 00:19:49 faceless nurses were very scary to me. Silent Hill is kind of scary if I recall. Am I wrong? I don't recall of being scary. All right. I know you were just heartbroken by the death of Sean Bean. Was I? That doesn't sound right. That doesn't sound like me. So yeah, she's like a, I don't know. Her eyes are in all the wrong places. She's just a CGI painting person. Yeah, it's weird.
Starting point is 00:20:16 It's weird. It's weird. It's such a weird. There's a couple of thiiipety thi. . CGI people later in the movies that I like better. Like the flop floppy titted lady in the second one? Yes, I did like her a lot. I liked her because she was too big. Okay, we'll get to that.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Yeah, yeah. Yeah. We see Ben's interaction with the nightmarish reality when he finds these like Easter eggs that are on fire after he, because Ben is the ultimate nerd who is like compiling a dossier on how fucked up dairy is. When the librarian shames him for a library? Yeah, fuck off! Fuck off!
Starting point is 00:20:50 FUK88! ENDEAIDEN! ENDE8! It's a lot, it's a lot, and one explosion? So I was watching this movie with'd chill. They don't have real dead kids to get pictures of, okay? Just took me out of the movie. Pickets charge! You see it for, that was Gettysburg, just north of Antietam. You see it for literally a split cycle. He knew, he smelled it.
Starting point is 00:21:27 What do I have headless Easter egg kid is pretty good. Because he finds these burning Easter eggs and he follows them down deeper into the library and then there's a headless kid that comes stomping at him. And he runs into the library and she's like, what the fuck? In this world, all adults, like, literally every adult he's children. No, I did like the headless Easter egg kid. Because we see, oh, that's right, he like zooms in on a close-up of the kid's head in a tree. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which was published in a newspaper?
Starting point is 00:21:51 Whoa, it's he's flipping through the photos and they keep zooming in as he's flipping. Yeah. called the little like movies that you flip. A flip book? No, yeah flip book would work. They were like the like like a real, um, the real, the, um, they used to put wrestling on them. Like, anyway. I know what you mean, the little clackety-clacty- clackety reels, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But it just like, so keep zooming and zooming and then it's like, it's like, that's like, the they, they, they, th, they, th, th, the th, th, th, th, th, th, the th, th, the th, th, the th. So, th. So, th. It's, th-like, th-like, th- like, um, um, uh, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, like, uh, like, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,'s head, who's head? No, it's just some kid. Just random kid. Some kid who is at Antietam, apparently. So he, Ben gets attacked by Henry outside the, Henry really is a piece of shit child. He is legitimately the worst.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Yeah. And the fact that he was like 40 in the mini series, downplays how terrible Henry is. For sure. When it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, th is, th is, th is, th is, th is, th is like, th th th th th thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th, th, th, th, th, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. th. It's th. th. th. th. thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, that's like, that's like, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin. So th. th. thies downplays how terrible Henry is. For sure, you know. When it's like a little like wet behind the ears kid, it's even worse. It's so evil. Yeah. He starts carving his name into Ben's tummy. Yeah. Yelling about how he's going to carve his name into that cottage cheese. How do you, like how do you think you're going to get away with that? It's a little bit of a, you know. It's a little extreme. And then they're chasing Ben because he like flips down the hill by kicking Henry in the gut.
Starting point is 00:23:14 And then there's this weird Lord of the Rings music while they're being chased. And I was like, that's weird, why are we doing this now? It's a sweeping score. I would like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, b b b b b b, th, like, th, like, like, th, like, like, like, like, like, th, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, tha, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, sweeping score. But it's like, bum, da da da, bum, da, bum, da, bum. Bum. Ah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So he finds the other children. This is the Barons. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they've entirely cut out the Ben's dead dad story line, too. Oh, I don't remember that. I remember the that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's that's that's that's thin. th. that's that's that's. that's. that's. that's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. that. In the, I remember the member that his dad showed up in like a military uniform. Oh, right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Yeah. But it wasn't his dad, it was a skeleton. There just wasn't time to put it in here. Really? Eddie's yelling around about staff infections. A topic about which he is actually very correct. Yeah, for sure. Yeah. So, this is when Patrick chases th th th th th th th that that that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. thate. theat. theateat. theat. the theateateat. theateat. theat. theat. theateat. that's theateat. that's th. I, for sure. Greywater. Yeah. So, is this when Patrick chases them into the sewer? And Patrick finds all these zombie kids in the sewer with his blowtorch?
Starting point is 00:24:11 He, it seems dangerous to do that later trick in a sewer. In a sewer, there's all fart gases. Yes! Patrick wasn't long for this world no matter what. No, poor Joey Ramon. He, uh, yeah, he runs into a bunch of dead kids. Yeah. Which is like, oh good, dead kids. And then he runs into my least favorite Pennywise.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Which is? Shaky-heed-headed Pennywise. He just like goes, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah. Oh, yeah. Not a fan. Because he does it too much. Yeah, yeah, although not the end of Patrick, just rip Patrick. Yeah, I was happy to see him show up again later. Also, I was like, you can drive, huh? In this state.
Starting point is 00:24:51 That's cool. So then we see the kids, like, oh, Ben finds the rest of the kids, they have to go to the pharmacy to get him supplies. And yeah, Eddie needs to refill his inhaler. Yeah. Yeah. Pharmacist is a pervert. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Pharmacists is a petto. Yeah. And Beverly plays on that to get them, to make them be able to steal stuff out of the pharmacy, which I enjoyed. And she steals a pack of cigarettes? Yeah. She's so cool. really is. I like the portrayal of this character much better in these movies than I did in the original. She was extremely meek in the original I thought. Yeah, yeah she was. I don't and again I don't remember the book enough to say
Starting point is 00:25:34 which one of those is more accurate. Yeah. For sure. I also don't think there was the implication that her father was sexually abusing her originally or at least in the miniseries there was not. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. I I I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. Yeah. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the the the the the the the the the the th................................................................................. the.. the. the.. the. the............................... the. the. the miniseries there was not. He was just beating her, I think. I mean, just beating her. It seems like something Stephen King would rape? Yeah, it sounds on brand. I appreciate that they cut that in the first one, I guess. Yeah, I didn't need it in this movie, but like- It's so hateful. Yeah, enough dad rape. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:05 I did like, Beverly cutting off her wig. Yeah, her wig was wretched. It was so bad. Because it was just like her regular haircut in the front and then this weird, long, stringing mullet. Yeah, it was just. It was 1989. Yeah, true.
Starting point is 00:26:20 And I know mullets are back in a big way. I find that distressing. Oh, we were, uh, where are we? Oh, no, I was at, I was at Target the other day. It was filled with college kids, of course. Oh, right. Uh, big white tube socks are back in a big way? Yes, they are. Big white sneakers are back. Shunky sneaks, yeah. Yeah, the 90s are just back real hard and it's very upsetting for me. I just don't know what to wear, because like I said, if you wore it the first time,
Starting point is 00:26:48 you don't get to wear it the second time. So what do I do? I didn't think uncomfortable white tube socks would come back though. It's too much sock. No one wants sock all up on your calf. I remember finding ankle socks and just the the the th. I th. I th. I th. I the th. I th. I th. I th. I th. Well sure, the whole thing is gross. Yeah, I mean feet who the thooe in public. Yeah, I don't like to be barefoot in public. Oh Oh. the the to be a a they. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. I mean feet. Who, yeah. But also I don't like to be barefoot in public. Oh, I see. Although I do have my feet all up on your chair. I was going to say, another argument for this not being public. It's not public.
Starting point is 00:27:30 I really like the swimming in their underpants scene. Cute. And then Bev's just like, water, but I'd figure it have to climb down. I would just take the road down, presumably there is one. I haven't known that says the sewer is a fun place to play with all of your friends. Is that something Penny Wye says? Uh, yes. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Okay. in a like train track drain pipe when we were kids. Wow. Yeah, yeah. So this movie would have also hit home for me because I would have been doing that in like the late 80s. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you were like, you're like their age, huh? Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah, I would have been, what, 89?
Starting point is 00:28:19 Yeah, there th really upset me. Yeah, come on, kid. That's not gonna clog. There was part of you that when the drain comes back on her and all the hairs pulling her into, and it was like, you know you did this to yourself. You cannot just flush hair down the drain. No. You're gonna have to snake that now. a bad scene. And then your dad's gonna be mad. Yeah. I wish my town had had a house like the one in this town. How is it still standing 27 years later, first of all? Second, it's in like a neighborhood. Uh-huh. There's like a nice
Starting point is 00:28:53 house with a like a mowed lawn next door. How is a developer not come in and taking that down? It's insane? For sure. Yeah. It is a very good spooky house though. It is a great spooky house inside and out It's got a leper living in it. I just hate this this guy Why? Because it looks like shit And it would be you have the money to do like like, I mean, it's, I don't know how much CGI costs, but I'm sure you could have done some practical effects on this that would have been fine. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure Doug Jones wasn't doing anything?
Starting point is 00:29:33 Yes, throw some fucking makeup on Doug Jones and I'm running a kid. Yeah, let him chase this kid around the lawn, you know, like, I just. I just don't. They seem unnecessary. It's less scary. For sure. 100%. Yeah, I mean, it's the thing that we've talked about a million times. It's just you can tell it's not real. It's just too silly.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But it is cool. And the to get sprayed in the th. out of her sink. Yeah. It's like a little guar show is happening in her sink. I love that. I love the conceit that dad cannot see any of that blow. I think that it makes it a thousand times spookier. Totally. And the fact that all the kids can. Right. So it's like, I think that's sort of hinting at that almost evil malaise that falls over adults in this town. Yeah. Which I which I I I I I I I I I I I I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I really really really really really like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like the the the the their their the their the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. I think that's sort of hinting at that almost evil malaise that falls over adults in this town.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Yeah. Which I really like. Like, and sort of like playing into that as you grow older, you lose your imagination and you lose the way you see a world as magical. Yeah. I wish that would have been explored more. Sure. Well, they just didn't have time. Alan! time. How did you feel about the new kids on the block poster in Ben's room? I thought
Starting point is 00:30:46 it was adorable. Ben is so cute. He's so cute? Yeah. How did you feel about all that water in Bill's basement? Were you worried? That was too much water. That's too much water in your basement. Holy shit, Maine. That was the conjuring two amounts of water in your basement. That's right. Or what was the one with Barry Pepper and the shark? No, alligator? Crawl. That Barry Pepper movie? I was like, who the fuck is Barry Pepper? Oh yeah, yeah, I remember now. Don't you how, who the fuck is Barry, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember. I remember now. Don't you how, who the fuck is Barry Pepper me, sir? Do you like that Kear song that's playing in the bathroom cleanup scene?
Starting point is 00:31:33 You know I did. I know you did. I said, I bet Alan likes this care song that's playing in the cleanup scene. I like that care song, to the the the their songar song song song song song song song song song song, that's appearance tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, th, tha, th, tha, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th, the, thi, thi, the, the, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, the, the, the, the, the, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, the, the, the, the, the, the, th..... the th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi, thi, thi found the soundtrack to be very enjoyable. Yeah, I bet. I would listen to the soundtrack of this movie. Definitely. I'd even be like, nah, I'll listen to a couple bars this new kids of the block song for I skip it. I mean, it's fucking catchy as hell. New kids on the block. It's for sure. It's terrible. Yeah, but very catchy. That's all boy bands are. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. But I'm that. that. th. th. Starting point is 00:32:08 Who did the bye-by-by song? Insink. Yeah, that's more of a backstreet boys, man. But that's okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Back street has some toms. And then I thought about teenagers now watching this movie and hearing that cure song and being like, what the fuck is this? You know?
Starting point is 00:32:26 Do teens still like the cure? For sure? Really? Oh, for sure? Teens? Are you out there? Do you like the cure? Do you think we're cool?
Starting point is 00:32:39 The answer is a strong no. I was talking about a friend of mine who the the the the the th th th th th thine thine thine th thine thine thine thine thin thin thin thin thin thin thi thi thi thi? thi is thi is thi is thi is thi is thi? thi? thi? thioling is, thioling is, thiole is, thi. t, t, is, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t, t. t. t. t. t. t. t. toes. toes. You become invisible to teens. That's awesome. Because I always feel like teens are laughing at me. I'm not even judged by teens anymore. Like, look at furniture going down the street. I don't even know what that is. It's like you're,they have word blindness but it's you. I think the cure is still a popular band for the kids. Yeah, great. They're one of the best. I don't know how I'm asking you like you're in touch with the teens. Because I'm a huge cure fan. Yeah that's true. Did you like that scene where Pennywise is eating a a child's arm in that scene with Mike and the meat? I I I I I th. I that's that that that that that that that that that that th. And then I thought Mike and the Mechanics might have something to say about that.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Mike in the Meat Canics? Yeah. They still go with the mandolin rain? I know that's not like in the mechanics. Come on. You guys horns be heads out here. Anyway. Uh, I love, so Mike finds the kids down in the barons, and then there's a rock war set to the aforementioned anthrax song. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:04 When Richie screams rock war and then gets hit right in the fucking glasses with a rock, Missy Blurt laughed. Oh, I'm sure she did. And I was like, this movie rolls right now. Kids hurling rocks at each other is so fucked up. Didn't there, done it. Really? We played on train tracks, of course we threw rocks at each other is so fucked up. Didn't there done it. Really? Hey we played on train tracks of course we threw rocks at each other. Goodness. I just got a
Starting point is 00:34:32 disapproving look from Katie like Alan, please. You just throw rocks. Don't have done this 30 plus years ago. How dare you? Poor Mike and his burned parents though. Oh yeah for sure. I don't need his parents to have been, though. Oh yeah, for sure. Like, I don't need his parents to have been burned alive. That's a lot for me. And the whole town being like, there's the guy whose parents are dead. Every time he goes anywhere. Blaming his parents for the fire.
Starting point is 00:34:59 It was almost like that was to replace racism? Yes, I think so because in the second movie, there there's there's there's there's there's there's, th.. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. to, to, to, to, to, toe. toe. toe. toe. to. to. to. to. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. to. to. to. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the was to replace racism? Yes, I think so because in the second movie, there's a, he has a newspaper clipping that's like, crackheads die in fire, and it's like, no, that would not be a newspaper headline in 1988. Well, it is, we'll get to that. Okay, that's next week. So they figure out, Ben through his research has figured out that Pennywise comes every 27 years. Right, a divergence from our usual 30, I think. Yes. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:35:25 I don't know why. And this, I'm currently doing my annual Halloween tradition of I read, Something Wicked This Way comes every year. And at this point I was like, oh fuck, this movie, or this story rips off something wicked this way comes. Does it? Because the carnival comes around every like 20 or 30 years. You have to defeat it with joy and love. Oh God, yeah. Friendship. Yeah, for sure. And it's just like, and it's stealing children. And there's just like so many similarities. Get Stephen King on the line. Yeah, but I was like, Stephen King definitely definitely read that book when he was a kid. Oh, for sure. Like, I'm sure it's stu. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, th. this, this, this, th. this, this, this, this, this, this, this th. th. this this this this this this this this this this this this th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And th. And th was a kid. Oh, for sure. You know, or not a kid probably. He was probably in his 20s when he read it,
Starting point is 00:36:05 but he read that book, like I'm sure it stuck with him. But yeah, it's because like the movies feel like something like, this way comes, the Goonies, just random Stephen Spielberg, definitely. But I think that's also what I found out ering about it because it was like hidden my sweet spot for movies. Definitely. Yeah, the late 80s Steven Spielberg is. Oh yeah, yeah. I'm going to tou toub- toubier. I'm going to toubier that. Did you like giant Pennywise coming out of the projector screen? No, I didn't. I did not know. I thought it looked terrible. It's very lull worthy. And like, so they're watching, they've got like the slide projector out, and they're watching
Starting point is 00:36:46 like Ben's slides about the town, and then it goes to, it goes rogue and it shows Billy's family, and then his mom turns into Pennywise. Yeah. But I was like, that's not scary. It wasn't scary in the trailer, it's not scary. There's so many scary things you can do with a photograph, too, to to, to, to, to, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, the photo, thi, and thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, th. And, th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. they. they. thethings you can do with a photograph too. We've seen it. And like, what was that one with the girl who was in the background of all the photos? Lake Mungo. The other night it was like, oh man, I don't want to watch the scary movie.
Starting point is 00:37:11 I'll put Lake Mungo on. Fock off. I'm going the Black Cat starring Boris Karloff and Bill Legosio watch that stage. Relax. Yeah, I hated the giant Pennywise. Yeah. Um, it's bad. I just feel like Pennywise doesn't get enough to do that's good in these movies. Yeah, and people like hailed his performance as being amazing and I was like, what did you see? I feel like I didn't see him enough. Yeah. And when you did he he's, he's, he's, he's th. th. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, I's thi, thi, thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm, I'm, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I thi, I thi, I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi, I thi. I thi. Yeah, I thi. thi. the to te tean tean tean tean to to to theat thi. thi. Yeah, yeah. And when you did, he's something else.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Like, oh, floppy-titted lady. Some floppy-titty lady. And he has like, I liked his weird, like, pooky lip that he gets, where his bottom lips hanging down. Yeah. And I was reading that he did that to look like a bear. Because bears will like, the thares will to to to to to to drop, to drop, they're paying attention to things. Okay, Bill Scars, guard. Yeah. I was like, okay, all right, that's weird.
Starting point is 00:38:08 You want to be animalistic, but like, at the same time you're doing like a hoe-down dance the whole time. I just don't think he, what they give him to do is working. Yeah, for sure. But, th th th th th th th th th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's, th. th. that's, that's, that's, that's, thi. that's thi. the. the. the. that's that's the. the. that's the. that's, that's, that's, that's, that back to the like how good the kids are that I bought into how scary it was. Sure. And there's some good spookery in this like Richie finding his own missing poster inside the house I think is really good. Like, that's just such a spooky, good touch.
Starting point is 00:38:35 For sure. Yeah. And then I started thinking about how they found the dead girls police? No, they never tell anyone anything, which is upsetting. Yeah. Wouldn't you go to the police if you found your dead classmates' shoe? No, they can't, Ace A-A-B, they can't go to the cops. These kids in the genie- Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Or at least her mom. Yeah. Your parents, perhaps. Yeah, somebody. Um, so they all go to the Neibolt house. Yes. The house on Nebold Street. This is the inexplicably run down home.
Starting point is 00:39:18 And that's where Richie finds the missing poster of himself. They hear a girl banging and saying hello, and then they get separated, which I really liked how, like Pennywise is just separating them throughout the house. Yeah, and like basically locking the doors. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's really good. Yeah, these are, I have huge gaps on my notes. My next note is Eddie falls through a table like God damn Mick Foley. Check your ears. Make sure you still have both of them.
Starting point is 00:39:48 Yep. Yeah, they get separated. There's like a bunch of screaming that's happening. Richie's in that clown room. Yeah. That I really, really liked. Yeah. I don't find clown scary at all. Do you? Yes. What is not scary about a clown? I don't know. Remember that movie we did about the really mean clown? Is it Stitches? No, he was just a sad mean clown. What was the really mean clown?
Starting point is 00:40:14 He was like in a pizza restaurant. Oh, terrified. Terrify. Or terrify? Yeah. That was a very nice clown. thia. That movie was brutal. Yeah. See, that wasn't a very nice clown. It was not a nice clown, but I don't think that because I saw one bad clown clown that all belongs.
Starting point is 00:40:29 One bad clown ruins the whole barrel. The whole clown car. Yeah. I want those clown portraits, though. I want them for my home. Sure. Yeah. I wanted the clown dolls that are all of everything. I mean just just just the the the clown the clown the clown the clown the clown the clown the clown the clown the clown. the clown. the clown. the clown. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thoen. thoen. thoom. thoom. thoom. thoom. tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thoom. thoom. thoom. thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. It. Yeah. I mean, just dolls are spooky in an attic. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:40:47 And when you know that you're being chased by a killer clown, yes, of course. What have I decorated my bathroom in a clown motif? I've been thinking about hanging up some art in there? What do you think about clowns? I mean, I'm sorry, clans. Clans. It might make you look like a John Wayne Gacy and I don't know if you want to go that route. I'll think about it. Okay, okay. Okay. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:11 I guess that is a clown that kind of ruins all clowns, isn't it? Yeah. I mean, it's pretty scary clown. Yeah. So Eddie's arm is like super broken. That's what my arm looked like when I broke it. Oh no. Yeah, it's scared Yeah. It's scared the shit out of me. It's too much. And Bill and Richie are in front of three doors that say not scary at all, scary and very scary. Yeah. So they open the not scary at all. What is it? It's a half a girl hanging from the ceiling, moaning. I thin. I think it's our girl Betty. th. th. th. th. th. the girl. th. th. th. th. the girl. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi it's our girl. thi thi thi the thi their th. their their their their their their thi thi thi their their their the the the th th th th th th th th. th th the the the the the the shit the the shit the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi., yes, yes. Yikes. I like this because I like when monsters are just kind of dicks. I enjoy that. You like that? Yeah, yeah. Just taunting them? Yeah, I like whatever like Michael Myers or Jason's, I guess more Jason does it when he just like taunts people. Yeah, he's such a dick though. Yeah, yeah, and so's Pennywise. True.
Starting point is 00:42:08 At least Jason has a motive. Oh, good seeking revenge for teens. Yeah, Pennywise has a motive too, which we find out about in the second movie? Do we? Yeah, aliens. Wait, what? Get back to me on that. We'll get to it. Bev stabs Pennywise in the face, which I appreciated.
Starting point is 00:42:27 She's so cool. Poor Ben gets it in the tum-tum again. He does. Stop hitting this poor child in the tum. And they like sort of break up as friends. Yeah. Yeah. Because Richie and Billy get into a fight.
Starting point is 00:42:44 Yeah. And Bill punches Ritch in the face. Yeah, yeah. Also, Richie and Billy get into a fight. And Bill punches Ritchie in the face. And Eddie's mom comes to pick him up and she's driving the car from present-day malignant. All right, real quick. Yeah. Stephen King hate fat people? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:43:01 Yeah. Because any fat person is just a bad dude in this movie. And is the butt of a joke. Right, right, or is a sad dude? Yeah, it's rough. Even, I mean in the second film when we meet Ben again and everyone's like, hubble, you're not fat me more. Yes, he's literally like a slab of beef. He's such a bad actor. I can't wait to talk about him. So yeah, his mom is ridiculous. We see a shot of Stanley's bar mitzvah and only Richie is there because they've all broken up.
Starting point is 00:43:34 And that made really sad. They all miss Stanley's barmitsv. They were all going to go. I was glad Rishy was there to represent though. Yeah. Well Stanley had left with Richie. They basically they basically like split into factions. Right, right, right, right. Until there's only Bill and Beth. And she, of course she thinks you wrote that god damn poem. It's a good poem. It's a good poem. It's a good poem. It's a good poem. It's a good poem. It's not the I'm going to the the tho' th-ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffo tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho the the more more more more more more more more the more the more the more the more the more the more tho tho the more the more the more the more th. the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more th. the the th. th. the th. the the th going to fuck you poem that it's played out to me. No. Can we cut to Henry Bowers shooting a gun at cans and then a cat? And I thought, what kind of fucking cat tolerate the tolerates gunfire?
Starting point is 00:44:15 My cat won't tolerate you moving your foot weird. He'll lose his goddamn mind, you know? Maybe you need to get one of them deaf cats like I got that will just tolerate anything. Yeah, I guess that's true. Yeah. Joe's gone real deaf in his dotage. Aw, I love Joe though. He's such a good boy. He is a good boy.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Yeah. Uh, pooped in the carrier on both ways to the vet today, coming and going. Well, I had to take to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to tho tho tho the tho the tho' the the tho tho tho th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thoe thoe thoe thoe thoe thoe thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooe.. tooa. tooe and tooe thoe. take him in the car, didn't you? So, we see Henry's father. Oh my God. Who is super shitty to Henry. Henry Bower's. To be fair, Henry's about to shoot a cat with a gun. For sure. Not great.
Starting point is 00:44:54 But you can see how it happened. Yeah. You have to understand that Henry's father he gets, his dad fires the gun basically all around him, which is terrifying. And poor Henry just snaps. And here's a bunch of children chanting, kill them all, kill them all, which has to be an ex-files reference. That one where the ATM is telling the guy to kill him all. I don't know that one. It's in the first season, I think. Okay. How strong is the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring strong strong strong strong strong strong strong strong strong is the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring spring the spring spring the spring is the spring spring spring is the spring is the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring. the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the spring is the. Oh, okay. Okay. How strong is the spring in that knife that he kills his father with? Very strong. Okay. Okay. Because I don't think that could happen, but all right.
Starting point is 00:45:33 I always wondered if that could happen. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Like a spring loaded blade being strong enough to go all the way in someone's trot? You think it would the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thrown. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. thr. thr. thr. thr. thri. thri. thri. thri. thri. thri. thri. thri. thee. th enough force to eject? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It doesn't need that. I feel like if it had that much power, it would just shoot out of the knife every time he fired it. Across the room. Yeah, that's fair. It would be a knife gun. Yeah. A low-velocity knife gun.
Starting point is 00:45:54 But he kills his dad. It's pretty. He does. He does. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. thee. the. the. the. the. town maybe. My next note says, see, kick a door open. I'm sorry, but it's true. I like that all the the televisions, no matter what the situation was, were playing things about people floating. Yes, or like weird children's programs about killing everyone. Oh, maybe that's what who said it's fun to play in the sewer with all your friends. I bet it was on the children's show. Yeah. But there was just like some, like, I think one of them was just home earlier in the movie. And there was just some like news thing that was like, yeah, so I'm floating downtown, blah blah blah blah. And it's like, oh, weird. It is weird. if everyone's hallucinating all of this. For sure, for sure. And he gets his cast signed by the nice woman at the pharmacy. Oh, she's such a bitch. Bitchy child. Well, her dad's a petter
Starting point is 00:46:52 ass. So, so is everybody's dad, apparently. She signs the cast, Loser. But he changes it to a lover. Lover. So when this movie came out, I saw that a bunch of people were getting that tattooed on them. Cute. I actually like that a lot. Yeah. Just reclaiming it. Yeah, it's very sweet. It just makes me think of Mr. Lover Lover. Mr. Luzer. I like that. I wonder if Weird Al is open to suggestions. Mr. Yankovic. God I would love to talk to a weirdo. Can anyone set that up that that that that that that that that to to to to to to to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say to say that that would love to talk to a weirdo. Can anyone set that up? I just want to say hey and thanks for all the laughs. I love hearing him swear. Seems so like it shouldn't. Yeah, yeah when he does it he's like even he's like, ha! He's like, I know how charming I am. There's a terrible scene with Bev and her dad. Oh yeah, he didn't care for? No, I didn't care for that. But hitting your dad with the toilet tank lid is fucking balls. It's boss too.
Starting point is 00:47:53 I was real into it. I thought he was, I assumed he was dead. Like in the second movie when the woman that. That's on me dog. Yeah. It's like, oh, and then here's Pennywise about it, you know. I don't know what Pennywise has to do with that scene. She like beats up her dad and then leaves, but I don't remember where Pennywise comes in. I don't know. Oh, Pennywise grabs her. Oh, that's right. That's when she gets taken. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, okay. Yeah, okay. Yeah, I. Yeah, I. Yeah, I. Yeah, I. Yeah, I. Yeah, I. Yeah, I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I. I, I. I, I they. I they. I they. I don't. I don't. I they. I don't. I don't. I don't. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't th. I don't know. I don't know. I don't th. I don't the. I don't yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, okay. Uh, they're right on Elm Street 5. That's the dream child. I'm like, absolute glee.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Pills are gazebos. I really like that he couldn't remember placebo and yelled gazemo. Oh, man. So they go to the house to try to get Bev back. This is what brings them all back together. They've got some weaponry. They've got the cattle gun. Yeah. And like a fence, a wrought iron fence post.
Starting point is 00:48:55 And Richie goes to break a bottle and it just like becomes useless. Which is funny. I just always assumed that if I was in a bar fight and I went to like break break like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to, to, to, to, was in a bar fight and I went to like break a bottle, I would end up just like slicing my hand open and needing a million stitches and being like, I lost! If you're gonna break a bottle, break it over to the head of the person that you're going to fight, them just randomly break it. Yeah, that's fair. the advice.
Starting point is 00:49:17 the advice. Let me tell you about all the bar fights I've gotten into. None. I've never been in a bar fight. I've been a lot of party fights. That's my, that's my wheelhouse party fights. I haven't been in a fight since 8th grade. Really? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And the last fight I got in, I got beat up by the women's rugby team at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. That's gonna happen. Yeah. Can't get mouthy with them. No.
Starting point is 00:49:45 No. No. You picked the wrong fight. I sure did. And I learned my lesson. Yeah, so they all go to the kneebolt house, the well house. We've got the gun. Henry's car is parked outside. No one look at that. They. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the they. the the the the they. Yeah. the the they. Yeah. Yeah. the they they they they the they they they they they they th, they they tho. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. they they the the the the the the the the the thoom. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the gun. Henry's car is parked outside. No one seems to notice. Not a not a look not a look at that. They end up going down into the well. Yes. Big old body pile floating body. I loved it. Did you? Did you? I thought it looked so cool.
Starting point is 00:50:19 It does look cool. It's very distressing. It's very upsetting. Yeah. Just the fact that like when you stop and think those are all somebody's kids. Yeah? It's horrendous. It's th th th th they they they they they they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they they're they're they're they're they're th. they're th. they're they're they they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I tho tho tho tho tho tho. I tho tho. I tho tho the thi thi thi thi thi th Yeah. Like just the fact that like when you stop and think, those are all somebody's kids. Yeah. It's horrendous. Like, um, and obviously they did not report it afterwards. No! Oh my god, you're really right about that. And there's like a scary jack in the box, but it's a CGI jack in the box. Why not just build one? It's the simplest contraption they've had them forever. You could make it so creepy. 100%. I hate that. I think it's taking an easy way out. I did like the CGI mouth when he picks Bev up and it becomes like the space vagina with all the teeth? Do you need that many teeth you think? What are all those teeth for? Four on the cop? Just get, I mean, it's like, Cud, he just chews on kids forever. Mmm.
Starting point is 00:51:09 He doesn't seem to be eating them, though. Although in some points he is, so never mind. Yeah, he bit off Georgie's arm. And then he ate thataste freeze. Ew, that is the grossest phrase in the history of song. What are you thinking, Cougar? Couges, what's going on, buddy? Ugh. Just, no, no, no. But I love the thing of her just like floating a few feet off the ground.
Starting point is 00:51:45 Yes, she looks great. She's like vacant, glassy-eyed. Yeah, that is great. Yeah, I think that's very cool. Somehow Stanley ends up alone, but I don't remember how. Oh yeah, Stan goes missing because he was like, was he hanging back? Is that what he was doing? I have no idea. Because I know that Mike has to fight Bowers and knocks him down the well. Right.
Starting point is 00:52:12 And loses all the gas cartridges for the gun and the in the fighting of Bowers. Right, right, right, right. And then, yeah, and then the clown is sucking on Stanley's face. Okay, okay. And that'sthe clown is sucking on Stanley's face. Okay, okay. And that's why Stanley is all bandaged up. How does Stanley ever explain this? I don't know. You've got shark bites all over your face, son.
Starting point is 00:52:32 What happened? What happened? No. The lady behind the wall becomes the clown. I don't remember who that is. I'm sure it was something. My next note says, God, pubescent kids are as dumb as a bag of spaghetti. I don't know what prompted that. Did you like...
Starting point is 00:52:51 Oh, I think is how Bill keeps following Georgie. And you're like, listen, you know it isn't. And he's also just like, you'll be okay up there for a little while, Bev. We're just going to leave you hang in. Bev, it's still alive. Sure. You know this to be true. Yeah, she's brought back by a kiss. She's brought back by a kiss. Did you think that was weird?
Starting point is 00:53:11 Yeah, me too. that's weird. Children kissing? Yes, I think it's weird. Yeah. Like anyone has to kill Georgie. Yeah, the actor playing it yet Bill is so tragic. Yeah. He's really good. I feel like I can't overstate it. And I think I've stated this a thousand times on the podcast as well.
Starting point is 00:53:39 If you want me to hate a character, have that character make fun of someone stuttering. I will always hate someone for making fun of a stutter. It's tell me you're an asshole. Yeah. And the sweet baby Angel Georgie's just going, I want to go home. I can't fucking take it. You don't have to because now he's Pennywise. Yes, his poor sweet baby gets shaken into a clown. I'll feast on your flesh as I feed on your fear. All right. Cop down, Pennywise.
Starting point is 00:54:06 Yeah, chill. No, that's chill. Why does Pennywaws dance at them? I don't know. I think that's his thing. He's the dancing clown, as advertised. But it's like, it's an evil dance that he's doing. It's a menacing dance. I says to him. I says, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the the the th, th, th, th, thi, thi, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, chill, th. th. th, th. th, th. th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, chill, chill, thi. thi. thi. thi. th's very dumb. I says, I says in a note here.
Starting point is 00:54:27 I says to him, I says to him, why are you dancing? It gives him the old rasmatas. He also says, I'll have my long rest, which I thought was a funny thing to say. That's when he's offering to just take Bill and the rest of them can leave. Yeah, that's the thii. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's tooom. tooom. to to to to to to to to to to too too too too too too too. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thi. thi. thi. that's thi. thi. thi. the. the. that's that's the. that's that's that's that's that. that's that's that's the. that's that's the. thi. that can leave. And Richie gets to have his hero moment. Now I'm going to have to kill this fucking clown. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I liked Pennywise's crab claws. Yes. I thought that was cool. Yeah, yeah, for sure. I also like the idea of children beating a clown to death. I think that's something I can get behind. Just whoopin' that ass. I think've vanquished Pennywise. There's a group hug as Bill warns the loss of Georgie.
Starting point is 00:55:13 Yeah, oh yeah. And I just, I find they're like, these children's friendships to be very sincere. For sure. I felt, I just thought they were all really, really good. They'd great chemistry with each other. Yeah. Yeah. And I kept thinking, Bev is an actual killer though. She's, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, than, than, than, thananan, thananananan, thananananan, thanananananan, thananan, thin, thin, I just thought they were all really, really good. They had great chemistry with each other. Yeah. Yeah. And I kept thinking, Bev is an actual killer though. She's sort of killed her dad. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She's a hero for doing it. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Just poor Ben has needed so many stitches since moving to this town. He just got here. He shouldn't have done so much book learning that you wouldn't need so many so stitches. Toughen up your skin, but for real, because you keep getting cut. So then they take a blood oath. Yes.
Starting point is 00:55:51 And that if everybody, if he ever comes back, we all have to come back. Swear it. And then there's like a kid love triangle. And it ends with kissing teens. They're fucking teens. But they're like little their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they're their their they're their they're their they're they're they're they're they're their they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're fucking teens. Ugh. But they're like little baby teens. They're not 35-year-olds playing teens. Exactly, they're actual teens. I kept thinking, I bet, this is actually very weird for you guys. Yeah. Yeah, because you're literally 14 years old.
Starting point is 00:56:14 Although I feel like acting teens are like high school? No fucking shame. And that is the end of it, Chapter 1. So I had seen this movie before in the theater when it came out, but I had just had a little baby, and I was definitely sleep deprived, and I remembered almost none of it, except that I thought the effects were silly. Yeah. And coming out of it again, that's still what I'm remembering. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I saw it, I watched it on the TV, not in the theater.
Starting point is 00:56:48 And I remember not liking that it was set in 1988 rather than the 50s, but this time around I was fine with it. Yeah. I think I just had to stick up my ass about something. Yeah, we all went that way. But I did, I very much more enjoyed it this th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th time than I did the first time. I think I did too. It's very long. Yes, next week is a real hold of my beard moment though.
Starting point is 00:57:12 God. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you want to rate this bitch? Yeah, I do. You want me to go foist? Yeah, I says to the movie, right? It says, uh... He says, clan. You can't talk to me, I get. I'm a high school graduate. If I were 14, this would be my favorite movie.
Starting point is 00:57:33 Fuck yes. I think it's super well done. I think it's a great movie for teens. Yeah. It's especially great if you're like, this is why I'm not one of those people that's like super nostalgic for video stores, but this is why I'm like if you could rent this and like without your parents really knowing what it is and then watch it with some friends of a sleepover, yeah. Fucking, you're out of your mind on Twizzlers and Snacks watching this movie, nothing's better for me. Yeah,. There I was, you know. Nothing better in the world. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:07 Thinking that was the scariest fucking thing that could ever be. Yeah. And we'll give this movie an 8. Whoa! Puya shocko. That, I am shook. Yeah. I am genuinely shook.
Starting point is 00:58:18 Yeah. I think the acting is fantastic. I think the effects are just, they just take me out of it, and it's such a bummer because I want, I just feel like practical effects would have been so, would have made this movie so scary. Sure. Like the things that really scared me in it, not that anything really scares me anymore, but the things that I found distressing were like Ritchie finding a missing poster for himself. That is really fucking scary. Yeah. Aile of dead kids.
Starting point is 00:58:48 Yeah, that's CGI. I have to tell you, that's CGI. No, no, they killed all those kids. Oh, they got all those bodies from Antietam. They were very short back then. I would certainly not dissuade someone from watching this movie. I'd watch it again, probably, if I had eight hours to kill. I literally had to take breaks during the next one. If I had a full work day to watch movies. Yes. I'm going to give it a seven. Okay, okay. I wasn't sure where the snake was going to land.
Starting point is 00:59:19 Yeah, it's fun. It's definitely fun. No one can say it's not fun. No, for sure. If you say it's not fun, you're wrong. Yeah, you're a goddamn Belfast liar. Yeah, goddamn liar. Oh, damn liar. Well, we're gonna do it too next week. Come back for that. And also if you want to see more of me this week, oh snap. Yeah, I'm a I I I I I I I I'm th. I'm th.
