But I just like, 1220, that is an interesting nom to plume. And it's not, I have to be on this. Not pretty good. Not, not, not pretty good. Also, Terry, I know you love Terry. I wanted to be Terry when I was a kid. I thought, I actually I was Terry killer. Can we, like, can we just ease our feet into that water? Terry is an abandoned child who's trying to cope with life. His mother died. She'd not her fault. No, no, but his father has since abandoned him to the world. He, his father definitely went on a bender that weekend, right? Bender. Yeah. But he also is like really into watching those bugs die in a jar and he kind of hits the dog at one point. Yeah, but you know I blame society. I don't blame Terry as much. I think this film takes Terry back out of that. By the end of the movie we have regained Terry into the world of the non-serial killer. Okay. I think that love Triumped in the end of this film. Such a beautiful movie. I love this movie so much. I think you accidentally watch Titanic. No way, love Triumph! No, it totally does. Especially because Glenn is like sort of in love with his sister.

There will be spoilers in this if you haven't. And they totally make out. Oh, God, gross. No. That's weird. Why would you say that? So basically this movie opens my notes, Stephen Dorf slash Glenn. Yeah, there you go. It opens on a, like, basically a dream sequence for him where he's walking around his empty house

and there's like a half-eaten meal on the table and there's this like crazy music playing on the... Do you know what that is? I find the internet somewhere. Is it Flight of Icarus by Iron Maiden? It might be, I don't know. Because there's a lot of Iron Maiden references in this movie. Oh, really? Well, there's Iron Maiden posters all over Terry's room, along with some Duran posters, which I was like, Terry? Terry? You are a man of my own tasks. I can't tasks.

I can't tas. and all that stuff and so Glenn's going through his house I've just jumped in here I'm so excited. Another shaking movie for Alan and he's waving his hands I'm just wildly. Yeah we follow Glenn going through his house which no one's in the house and everything is just sort of off kilter and a little creepy and like lamps are swaying and he finally makes it outside to the tree house after walks the kitchen which has like an abandoned meal. Yeah. He goes out to the tree house. He climbs in the tree house, which is creeping out some way, and then it gets struck by lightning. Yeah.

And he starts to fall to the ground and then wakes up in his bed. Yes. To the sounds of a chain' supposed to pay attention what they're saying, but I was listening and at one point the guy goes, no, the other tree! They're saying, what? Not the one on the ground? No, that one. But when this tree struck by lightning again rips out And that's where it all happens. Literally all

hell breaks loose. Yeah. So Glenn lives with his mom and his dad and his sister Al. Yeah, a nice nuclear family. Yes. Do you remember in the warlock episode when I kept insisting that Richard E. Grant was Brian from wings? Okay, the dad in this movie is actually Brian from Wings. Not actually, actually. No, but actually, he is. He is totally Brian from Wings. It's been a long time since I've seen it as Brian from Wings. He's like the twin of Wings.

What's that disorder that people have wherethat for white men where you just see that as Brian from Wings. Everyone I look at, I'm like married to Brian from Wings. I don't even know. Brian from Wings delivers the mail in my office. It's very confusing to me. It seems to be a very sweet family. His dad is so Canadian. There's a bottle of HP sauce right.

So in this conversation between Brian from Wings and baby Stephen Dorf, we learned that Terry's mother has died the previous year. you need to remember that he's acting out or whatever. Yeah, basically acknowledging that he, this loss has filled him with anger, as it would, any 12-year-old boy. And we also find out that Terry has told Glenn that when they were building Glenn's house, a workman was killed? And the other workman didn't want to tell the police so they just put the body in the wall? Such good kid.

Well, like, who... Why would they not want to tell the police? their tell? Everything kind of kicks off with Glenn's parents going on vacation for the weekend and leaving Al in charge. Once again, parents in the 80s went on vacation without their kids all the fucking time. Was it just like a Reagan era thing? Like, it was a trickling-key to the, uh, the untieth degree. Yeah, so immediately I'll have a party, and it looks like a great party. Yeah, she's having a a rager. I really want to be at that party. Who got them that beer? That's a good question. They're all like 15 years old. Yeah. The Lee sisters are fantastic.

My dad used to tell a joke about the Lee sisters, Ug and Home. Yeah, so I think that's why they're... Is that before after he did the electric work on the Imanieville Horr. No, that one's a real one. Which has the, that leads to the great scene of, of Terry and Glenn in the kitchen, like eavesdropping and eating pizza. I mean, I should, full disclosure, I have an older sister. and hocus stuff or something like that? And Terry just like nods and he goes, so do why? It was so good. So they end up levitating, Glenn? Yeah, light is a feather, stiff as a board. Yeah, which is super weird. And he levitates into the air, breaks a light, falls to the ground, crying. Breaks two lights. Crying. It's two fixtures out.

That was so sad for the little guy. Yeah. Also, baby Stephen Dorf. he's required to cry in this movie, they have to cut away from him. Did you notice that? He's crunched up his face and then they cut away and you're, he, he, he, he, he's not his finest, not as fine as acting. I don't know, it may be as fine as acting. I have not seen any of his other acting. Well, yeah. Yeah, I mean, I've't know about that. Oh, okay. He's the bad guy in Blade, right?

One of the top things on his IMDB pages just says untitled Stephen Dorf Project, so. So this totally bugs Glenn out and he runs up to his room. And in a really sweet scene, Al, Alexandra, his sister and Terry come up to tell., t, t, the..... the. tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, is tha, is tha, is is tha, is is tha, is tha, is just says, is just says, is just says, is just says, is t, is tie, is tie, is t, is is is t, is t, is is t, is t, is t, is tie, is tie, is tie, is tha, is tha, is tha, is toda, ttoday, is ttttttttttttttttttoday, tttttttttttttttttttoday, tttttoday, ttoday, today, today, today, today, tells a story of having been pantsed in front of the entire school and as, you know, it made me sad. It's a bummer man. I, you know, a couple girls had that happen in junior high. It's a, it's fucking sucks. And Terry tells about vomiting on a kid in his class. Yeah. No, it's really sweet. Like, when I was growing up, my sister and I grew apart at some point and like fought all the time and it was, I really identify with this movie.

And this is our comedy podcast about family feelings. This movie just brings up a lot of feelings. Yeah, it seems like it. I was feeling a lot of love for the neon clothes that the Lee sisters were wearing. What about all the crimping that was going on with their goddamn hair? Oh, it's so good. They're also all wearing like really bright colored jeans which I was really like, can I do that? Am I'm too old? No way, you can do it. No, I'm in my 30s in 2015. It's too late. around the hole. Kind of crush. Yeah, kind of. Well, we were busy talking about hair and feelings. The things that we generally cover on this podcast, hair and feelings. It's kind of true. They're spending a lot of time in Glenn's bedroom with a hammer and a chisel or a screwdriver trying to crack it open.

And finally, Glenn does crack it open with just one good whack of the hammer. Yeah. And awesome purple smoke comes out of it. Yeah, so it's so it's so so much purple in this movie it's so very purple. So that night of the party they go to bed and Terry wakes up in the middle of the night and starts to go downstairs I guess for some reason. He's going to go pee and then the front door opens and smoke comes boring in and then a woman is dressed in white. Again, super sad. She's saying like, I love you, I need you. And he says mom? Oh come on

not your mom, Terry. Fucking heartbreaking. Yeah, totally his mom. He goes down and hugs her. And then when he sort of snaps out of it we realize he has hugged a sheep dog to death. Yeah he's hugging Angus who is the elderly dog that's in the family. Yeah, he hugged it to death. Yeah, I don't know, or if the demons put Angus already, I'd like to think that Angus was already dead when the deem's put him in his arms. That's, that's a key theory. I'm the king of wishful thinking. I'll get over you. No false that out tonight. No, yeah, I think you hugged him to death. It's so sad.

It's just very sad. Because once he realizes what's going on, he drops Angus and then drops to his knees like, you know, and starts petting the dead dog. And then the other kids thugg, th's thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thinks, thi, I's, I's, I tho, I tho, I thinks, I thinks, I that, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I I I tho, I I I I th. So then Al's friends come over and they're completely unsympathetic. And there's a guy there that, this hunky guy, I'm doing hunky in finger quotes, that she's real into who's pretty into her, and he's wearing like to the dead dog to the animal shelter and they're going to go to the mall? Owl, no. So then there's just a scene of Eric cruising around with the dead dog

and his transam which I found to be very upsetting. I do want to mention the next morning when Glenn and tear they're both kind of upset and Glenn says to Terry, do you want to come over later and mess around? I was just like such a weird thing to say. I feel like that even the kids were uncomfortable acting that scene. And then as Terry's walking away I'm just staring at his killer dwarfs patch going and nobody'd like to kill dwarfs enough to have a bat patch up. No, huge one too. Yeah, I might even I I I I I. I I I I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I that. And I listening to, again, why I identified so hard with Terry. Plus I was 13 when this movie came out, so. And this album seems to have come with a book. Yeah. That had art in it. Yeah. It was, you know, the art was, it was better than like the second edition

player's handbook. You know what I mean? Like, some effort was put into this art. Well, at least one of the panels was taken from an illustration of an HP Lovecraft story. Oh, okay. From the color from outer space. Yeah, I'm gonna push my, that was my glasses going up. And during this scene where Terry is listening to the album, there's basically a monologue about unleashing demons from a portal to hell. Yeah. Which in the 80s was the shit like that that was that everybody was the tear that if you? that, like that was that everybody everybody everybody everybody everybody everybody everybody remember a queen getting sued because someone said that if you play another one bites the desk backwards, it's about Satanism. Oh, 100% speaking of, speaking of a sweet gay man. A lot of homophobia in the 80s. Yeah. And then later one of the least, there's this... What does that mean? Later in the movie, there's this great exchange of insults. Oh, right, they're like, yeah, going back and forward. Yeah. Where it starts off with the probably facking offline, followed by Glenn saying, suck my nose until my head caves in. Is that what he said? I could not understand him. So then some other scary stuff happens, like Glenn's parents appear at the front door, but it's not Glenn's parents and his dad's like, what does he say? Oh wow. You've been just, you've been bad? Something like that.

Yeah, and then starts like trying to choke out Glenn. And Glenn rips his face off. His face fucking dumps pudding all over Glenn. Yeah, it's super gross. And then there's like a genuinely frightening scene where they're the power is out in their house and they're going down into the basement. We've seen this like family portrait of them before on the stairs and then he hits it with a flashlight and you can see that everyone is dead except for Glenn like bloody. Yeah. unn't. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. If you re-watch it, there's a bunch of green screen stuff with the dudes and suits like running around people's legs. Speaking of T-Rex arms, the big guy at the end has the most useless arms, and I would

like to discuss them later. Um. Well, he has two sets of arms, so one can be used. He has like four sets of arms. I couldn't figure it out. Because the little ones, they wouldn't even feed him. Like, they would not even to they they they they reach Fouls for a really long time. And when he hits the bottom the little dudes grab his legs. And like bite him. Yeah.

Like one kind of comes up and like staring at him and then one just runs up and bite his leg. They're almost cute. There's something almost cute about them. I think it's because they're small. So they pull Terry back out with a rope and a board while Glenn is reading Bible passages and Terry yells, Stop it, you're making them angry! When they bring Terry back up, he grabs the bobbling and he's like, what should I read? And they're like, read anything. So he starts reading the Bible and then he goes, ah shit and just throw it in the hole.

So they think they've beaten them. And they put like a piece of wood back over the hole and they go, oh, we didn't mention that the reason these demons were able to come to life is because they need to sacrifice because Eric threw the goddamn dead dog in the hole. So that happened. They go back inside and find the Lee sisters hiding in a closet covered in like wreaths of garlic? Why does Glenn's mom have all that garlic? What is she making? Pasta sauce? A lot of pasta sauce. So they think they've defeated it and they're cool. Then the workman appears. Yeah and steals fucking Terry. He like busts out of the wall and Glenn goes it's the workman and Terry goes, I just made that up. I mean obviously with the trip bringing their parents into it and all that stuff, yeah. And there's a scene where Al is like looking in the mirror brushing her hair or something and the workman appears behind her, she's not scared. She's not afraid of anything in this movie. She is an unrealistically brave. She's a 15-year-old girl. You know what I mean? She's just opening doors and like fucking going for it? Like, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Well, she's got to protect her little brother.

Yeah, she should call the police. Well, they try to call to call. You've been bird and then it catches on fire. Yeah, yeah, it's Brian from Wings' voice on the other line. His demon voice. So the workman takes Harry, he just pulls him into the wall, and then the wall that closes around him. I do want to mention, because this shows up later, there was the scene where the into maggots and the maggots scurry away. It's very gross. Then later the workman shows back up and he falls on the ground and turns into the little demon guys. It's so good. Yeah. It's so good.

Yeah, he's gotten Terry and taking ta. ta'in to the wall. the workman shows up. Yeah, the workman shows up. tells Stephen Dorf to run down and get dad shotgun, which we've seen earlier because Terry just picks it up and starts like holding it up to his face. That was another reason I felt Terry was a burgeoning serial killer was the way he was handling that gun. I didn't like it. He was really excited about it. He was really, he's like, he's like, hey man, he's like, hey man, he's like, hey man, it is cruel. It's not a trying to kill those bugs in a jar. Glenn's like, hey man, that's cruel. And I was like, you're right, it is cruel. to try to get Dad's shotgun.

And when he opens the shotgun case, Terry's inside the shotgun case. I forgot how scary that. I forgot that that was a scare in this movie. And it got me. Oh, did it? because now she, the door's been ripped apart by the little creeps, so she goes downstairs to get the gun with Glenn and sees that he's being gnawed on by Demon Terry and stabs him in the eye with a Barbie doll leg. Oh yeah. Pretty brutal. Pretty brutal. And he's real sad after it happens. And then it like swings around to show one of the little demon guys on the landing, sort of the balcony at the top of the stairs. And then it zooms in on him real fast. And it's scary.

And then they all start jumping in the player's handboat, is rising from the base and under the house? I'm not real sure. So Al gets snatched by the workman when he reappears out of the closet. Oh, that's right. He takes, and so it's just Stephen Dorf by himself now. Stephen Dorf doesn't seem adequately sad, I feel about Terry and his sister. Yeah, he's had a lot. He's really had a lot dropped on his shoulder. So I don't think he's processing. Yeah, I guess.

I think he's just sort of running on, well, backup battery life right now. He starts running across the floor, which is now disintegrating, to open up and show the pit that's in the basement. The geometry of the 1980s. Like everything is just shoddy and falling apart. Like the stairs are just made of like cardboard.

Yeah. And seemingly the biggest room in the house is the foyer. And seemingly, yeah. the biggest room, the floor drops out and you see this big huge pit which at the bottom of it has like the floor drops out and you see this big huge pit, which at the bottom of it has like lightning crackling. It's a pretty cool effect. It looks pretty neat.

And Glenn makes it up the steps. And he has to go find out the thunderbolt. Oh right, a rocket. Yeah. Well, he's grabbed the launch pad because matches aren't working. And earlier we find out that the only way to destroy this is with love. What? Did we find that at? Yeah, yeah.

It's when they're listening to the record backwards. What does it say? It says that the only way to destroy this is love. Yeah, it's really beautiful. It's a beautiful message. Like what is it doing with those tiny arms? I don't know, I mean it's like... I feel like someone designed that creature and they were like, eh, I'm good enough. I really like the way it looks but it's adorable. It's like if that demon showed up, you're like, oh, oh, all yeah, everything is unquestionably cute in this movie. See I saw this movie for the first time a couple months ago it was brought to me by my friend Amanda of the episode of Pitt who was just really into movies where like things live in holes and eat you because that's laugh in the business.
