Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 398- The Changeling (1980)

Episode Date: October 3, 2022

It's the most wonderful time of the year! In this week's episode, we're kicking off SPOOKY SEASON with something we haven't seen in awhile-- a good old-fashioned creepy ghost story with the 1980 film ..."The Changeling." Special topics for your consideration include: accepting our own mortality (or at least looking better than George C. Scott, bless his heart), making piano-man money, the kinds of things that only happen to you when your friends are rich, CLAIRE NORMAN!!, and some real deep rhythmic pounding. Oh yeah. We have not covered nearly as many ghost stories as we should have, and many of the ones we have discussed are bad! Here are some of the worst: Episode 14- "Ghost Ship," Episode 69- "Thirteen Ghosts," Episode 203- "Grave Encounters," Episode 213- "Poltergeist II: The Other Side," and Episode 311- "Girl on the Third Floor." Hey, give us a call and leave us a voicemail! You can call 412-407-7025 and let us hear your sweet sweet voices. Starting point is 00:00:00 Katie, you know what this month is. Spooky, baby. Hattie, you know what this month is. Spooky season, baby. And I think it happened on Halloween. Oh, I'm so, ah. Cocaine, Tim Curry, the finest of Tim Curry. Bookie season, baby! And I thinkin' happen on Halloween. Oh, I'm so, ah. Cocaine Tim Curry, the finest of Tim Curry's.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Cocaine Tim Curry ain't nothing to fuck with. Nothing to fuck with. So cute in that movie, too. The worst way she's got like these little bangs. Sure, yeah, yeah. That weird tuxedo. Yes. Katie. What are we going to start this Halloween month off with?
Starting point is 00:00:49 Something we haven't done in a while, which is a ghost story. Yeah. Yeah. We are doing the 1980 film of your choosing, the changeling. Starring one, George C. Scott, who is always Ebeneezer Scrooge to me. Oh yeah, yeah, and he's very Ebenezer scourge in this movie. Really is. He keeps having to wake up quizzically to to to to start to start to start to start this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this thoing this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thoing thoing thoing thooooooooooooooooooooo thooooooooo thooooo' thoo' tho' thoing thozer Scrooge to me. Oh yeah, yeah, and he's very Ebenezer Scrooge in this movie. He keeps having to wake up quizzically to a ghost. Yeah, there's a point where he's laying in bed and hearing sounds, and I was like, it's fucking Ghost a Christmas past, baby. Right out of the gate, I said a thing. Scott to be an attractive man. You think so. Oh yeah. He's a bit strange looking.
Starting point is 00:01:27 Something in his nose. I think that's what I... It's like, yeah, something to glom onto that. Yeah, yeah, he looks like a real mad eagle. Yes, he does look a lot like the Muppet Sam the Eagle. Yeah, 100 percent. Yeah, holy ghost. Wayne and Wanda. Oh. So I watch his movie on Pecocock. Yes.
Starting point is 00:01:52 And I always like to catalog my ads. This time was not letting your baby eat tide pods, which I did not need to have advertised to me. I thought the kids were done with them. They just put it in their god-mouse. They're new to every trend. Yes, they don't know what TikTok is. That's really the only one of note. I watch this on Shutter. Ah. And in Ed, no ads. Good for you. Oh, I had liquid IV as which they don't have to sell me on because it's my favorite. Liquid IV. Yeah, that's like they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't they don't th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. th. th. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the don't the. to to to to to to to to to to tooo. to. to. to. thi don't thi don't don't when you're hung over. You try that's not just a tide pot? Oh, fuck!
Starting point is 00:02:26 Oh, no! That's why I don't ever feel any pain. And you smell so fresh. I do. My breath is like a summer's day. Especially because I'm drinking an icy light mango as we speak, probably our last ones of the next episode. Shh! You think both these beers make it into the next episode, Katie? No, they're light.
Starting point is 00:02:50 We start this movie off in upstate New York on November 27th. Some good old wind sound effects. And a family laughing and bushing a car. Oh, it's so fun to have your car break down. In a mountain in a snowstorm. Yeah, everyone's just gleefully laughing. George C. Scott's a bit old for a kid this young. How old is George C. Scott in this movie?
Starting point is 00:03:14 Oh gosh. I have no idea. You're going to guess three years older than I am? What? He is 51 years old. He looks wizened. I was like, when he's smoking in athis movie I was like, oh you're a full-time fucking smoker, aren't you, dog? That shit ages you. Yeah, really?
Starting point is 00:03:34 Yeah. Wow. Man, we've been really feeling good about ourselves lately in terms of how old men look at movies. I think, uh, what was that, Dark Night of the Scarecrow was like, I'm doing great! Oh my God, yes. All those men were my age. Yes. That's how I felt about flatliners.
Starting point is 00:03:55 And also Donnie Wahlberg. It's better when I compare myself to men. Anyway. So what happens in this snowstorm? Uh, so, uh, also, I have a hard time buying Dorchie Scott as the lovable laughable dad. No, he doesn't like a family man. No. Oh, no, he does. He just seems like a mad dad. Yeah, that's not a family man as far as I'm concerned.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Okay. Mad dads don't throw a fris thie thie thie thie thie thi tho frie tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho th concerned. Mad Dads don't throw a frisbee with you. It's true. But they throw it at you. Yeah, yeah. They keep throwing it at your ankles to make you jump, you know? So he's going to go use the pay phone to call emergency services to get their car toe and or fixed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:39 And the actors playing mom and the daughter have this like 80 yard, let's have a snowball fight! Yeah, a snowball! And they go and have a little snowball tussle, until... Until a truck comes whipping around one way and a car comes whipping around the other way. Yeah. Which George sees Scott hears in the phone booth, but they don't out on the street.
Starting point is 00:05:01 Uh-huh. Mm-hmm. And luckily the car doesn't th-t doesn't th-t doesn't th-t doesn't th-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-to-s the th-s the th-s thi-s tho-s the the the the tho-s the tho-s tho-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they're thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. thi-s. theeea-s. to-s. thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo'-s. the-s. then, ug. And luckily the car doesn't hit them. The dump truck does. And it's three years later. They're dead. Four months later. Four months later, they are gone, gone. And we get this nice long scene of wandering on a rainy day. Yeah, through New York City. Yeah. And I was like, oh, I wonder if they filmed this in New York City. And Missy's like, they just walked by the MET. I don't know what fucking things look like. What? That's a building.
Starting point is 00:05:34 That's a building. It could be any building. This doesn't look anything like Vancouver. That's where New York City is. Yeah, where the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the? Yeah, he's some kind of piano guy in New York City. He's a pretty sick apartment with all these cool built-ins. Oh my god. Yeah. I was like, holy shit this dude's loaded for being a pianoman. Yes, how does a pianoman make so much money? I don't know. I mean, if you think about it, Dana from Ghostbusters had a sick ass apartment and she was just cello lady. That's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:07 That's true. I guess playing them musical instruments really brings it the bucks. It never did for me. Nope, nope. Nope, nope. That's because we chose the wrong musical instruments. Oh, yeah. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Just throw this out there. Oh my god. Go fart. Just go fart. Suck an egg. I honestly don't even get what the outrage is. Oh, it's just fake outrage because a black woman did a thing. I mean, but like, right? Like, what is the pretense for being angry? Well, that she just resected it because her tummy wasn't fully covered. I heard someone, I saw someone complained about the outfit she was wearing and I was just like, a word? Did you hear her play the flute?
Starting point is 00:06:47 Oh my god, it was gorgeous. It was like tear-jerkingly beautiful. She's an amazing floutest. Yeah. Assaults. I mean, it's who can, who can even muster the rage about this rage, you know? Despite all this rage. I still have a rat in my brain.
Starting point is 00:07:05 This is where I have the note, Holy shit, Tritz, he's got three years older than me. I cannot believe that. Because when you said to guess, my guess was like in his late 60s. Oh yeah, yeah. I didn't want to say it because it didn't feel right. Right. And then I didn't want to seem stupid. No, I was I was tho tho 't want to seem stupid. No, I was a way off. He looks like he's in his mid-60s.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Yeah, for sure. He looks like a retiree. So he goes home and his maid is packing up the apartment for him. Yeah. And he's this sad flashback of like happy times. Playing with his daughter and the ball. Yeah. She's like, what do you want to do with the ball? And it's like, I guess I'll take this to Seattle. Yeah, moving to Seattle, that weather will help.
Starting point is 00:07:50 I definitely had a friend when I was younger that it gave depression to. Yeah, I'm sure. If you're used to sunlight and you move to Seattle, it's gonna be tou. Yeah, yeah, we could do it, no problem. Oh my god, yeah, I'm great at it. Be like, that one extra day of sunshine they have, you're like, ugh, what is this? They have one more than us? I think so. Oh, damn. Maybe we have one more than them. Yeah, fuck you, Seattle. Yeah, they seem nice. It goes like, oh, I need these kind of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of of their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. t. t. t. to. to. to. to. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. they're. set up in Seattle. Yeah, they seem nice. I was like, oh, I need these kind of friends. They're just going to set me up with everything. True, a job, a place. Yeah. Let me call the historical society and get you a house. What now? What? Yeah, they're also having this kind of funny conversation where one of them says to him like, well, we're so lucky to have such a distinguished composer as to have to have to have to have to have to have a distinguished composer, to have a distinguished composer, to have a distinguished composer, to have a distinguished composer, to have a distinguished composer, to be a distinguished composer, to be a distinguished composer, to be a to be a to be a to be a to to to be a to to to thi, thi, thi, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi. thi. thi. thi, the. the. the. the. theat, the. their, their, the. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, we're so lucky to have such a distinguished composer as you. Yeah. And he's like, well, I don't know about that. And they're like, yeah, I mean anyway.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Like, yeah, you lied about him being a distinguished composer. Well, as long as he knows, yeah, no, you're not very good. I mean, it's fine. You're great. No, you're really, no, I tho, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th. Yeah. I th. Yeah. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. Yeah, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the Historical Preservation Society does short-term rentals. Is this just how rich people live or they're just like, oh, they're rich fed. Let me get you a historical house. Yes, I think so. I think it's not what you know. The rest of us are like, I don't know, do you want some of this can of beans? I have a half-bured candle. I thought you might like it. I think you could probably bring this house plant back. You're better at it
Starting point is 00:09:30 than I am. No, I'm not. You're right, you're not. Oh, yeah. So he meets up with Claire Norman, who I refer to in my notes only as Clare Norman, first and last. You know who she is? She was married to him. Yeah. A bit of a gap. I would say a bit of an age gap there, but less than I would have thought, really. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:53 Yeah. Yeah. She has a lot of teeth. She does it. She has that hair style that I doubt will ever will will will will ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the I refer to it as the Loretta Lynn helmet. Okay. It is just a hair sprayed, swooped back helmet of hair. Just a bun, but the bun has never seen like the top of your head. Right, but it still has like a little mullet action in the back too. Yeah, there's some wave there. Yeah, it's a lot. It's a big look. It's a big look. 19. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But, but. But, but. But, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but it's a to it's a look. Starting point is 00:10:25 1980. Bu. I love that reminder that 1980 is just 1979 continued. Yeah. I did like a lot of the outfits on the street in New York like those middy length skirts. Yeah, everything in beige and neutral tones. What what did? Did color fall out of the world in the 70s? No, you got those green refrigerators right? That's that's true. Yeah, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, too, th, th, too, th, too, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, too. too, too, too, too, too, too, too, too, th. thi, thi, the thi, too, too, the too, the too, thi, the thi, they, thi. they, they. they. they. their, they. 1980s, thi, thi, thi, th out of the world in the 70s? No, you got those green refrigerators, right? That's true. But it's just like, let's put brown shag carpeting on the walls. Yeah, you want to rub yourself on some shag carpeting, but you don't want to lie down. It's great. Kidnup so hard.
Starting point is 00:11:02 An extension of the floor. This is a huge house. Who's going to take care of this house? The caretaker. Oh, we have a man. I need a caretaker. We all need a Mr. Tuttle. We all need a Mr. Tuttle. Also how cool is this house?
Starting point is 00:11:19 It's amazing. The doors, those like, art deco doors are so beautiful. So beautiful. Also I was blown away that when Tuttle was dusting, he was taking each book off the shelf to dust it and I was like, who does this, Tuttle? Tuttle. I live in a dream. Tuttle is thorough. Yeah, there's a Murt music room for him to write his music in.
Starting point is 00:11:40 And I like when he's playing the piano and he hits the dead key. And then he goes outside, probably because Claire Norman shows up or something. Claire Norman just keeps showing up. She wants to fuck George C. Scott so bad. I'm surprised they never kiss. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because he obviously is down to clown with her too. Yeah, after, I mean, I have like three more lines and just wrote Claire Norman trying to fuck. She want to bang GCS is a note that I have. So there you go.
Starting point is 00:12:08 But yes, the key. And so he like hits the dead key and then he's like, oh, Claire Norman, he runs outside. And then the key sounds. It's pretty ominous. Yes. It's very spooky. I think this movie does great subtle spookery. Really strongly agree. Yeah, good, good, good. Yeah. We cut to him teaching a class and he's just like so great his students think he's
Starting point is 00:12:30 so funny. I don't get any of his jokes. He's so charming though. He's also a fucking giant. Yeah, he's enormous. He's an inch shorter than I am. Really? He's 6-1. Jesus Christ, they make him look like he is Godzilla in this movie. I think everybody else around him is like 5-3. Wow. Yeah. I said, I was like, oh, he looks like a really big guy, but he's not that big, Missy's like, do you know how big you are?
Starting point is 00:12:58 I was like, oh yeah're taller and younger than George C. Scott. Look at me! Feels good, man. What if these are my small victories for today? Hey man, you're still alive, George C. Scott is it? Well, in 1980 he was, that's what we're talking about. Yeah, well, I had not reached 6 foot 2 in 1980. Yeah, 6. Okay, well in 1990 you were taller than him and younger. It's true, it's true. He was still extant then. I really like that sort of zooming out shot of him crossing the lawn really slowly.
Starting point is 00:13:38 There's a lot of like slow scenes of him walking, which normally I'd be very angry about. Yeah, but they're done really well in this. And I liked all the like overhead shots that happened that are. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. angry about. Yeah. But they're done really well in this. And I liked all the overhead shots that happened too, that are sometimes the ghost perspective on this. That was really good, too. It was really good. The movie's like oddly soothing in some ways. You get really lulled watching it. It feels, um, it's a terrible comparison because it has such connotations to it, but it feels
Starting point is 00:14:06 Hitchcockian in a way of where it's just kind of like mellow terror the whole time. Like how Hitchcock just kind of plays on like, you don't feel right, do you? Things don't just don't feel right, right? And this movie kind of delves into that realm, I think. In a really compelling way. Yeah. And I liked when he's like, so he's teaching the class and he starts playing some piece,
Starting point is 00:14:31 probably a Mozart or a Brahms or some shit. Who fucking knows? And as he's like playing it, and then slowly switches over to the orchestra playing it? Yes. And I was like, that's really cool. And he's wrapping with the students. And they're like, oh, yeah, that was really great. When you played it too, buddy, you were great.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Let me kiss you. Nobody kisses him. Probably because he smokes Yeah, probably put that in one of those penguin sticks that you put your cigarettes. Yeah, why he's looking lucky strikes. Maybe he pitched up during Mooney when he was Patton. Yeah, I was gonna say he's a military man who was Patton and the General and Dr. Strange Love. I never saw Dr. Strange Oh, it's so good. Should I? It seems like really long. No, it's it's one of the best political satire films that's ever been made. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Uh, and I can't remember if there's any women for Kubrick to be shitty to in it or not. It's pretty great. A dearth of women is a good thing. Movies! Anyway, Claire Norman shows up wearing Jod Purse and you're like, either she's going riding or you, you Hitler. Which one is? Oh no.
Starting point is 00:15:46 They go riding, she puts out a fucking derby. A derby? Yeah, she wears like a derby hat. It wasn't a helmet? No, it was a derby. Oh my God, it's amazing. Like she was going fox hunting. Horse girls, I don't get them. I don't get you guys. What's doing out there? But Kathy, his daughter,
Starting point is 00:16:09 was also a horse girl. Yeah. And when he gets home, God, he's sobbing. So good. It's so intense. To have an actor of his caliber, like, he's pulling this movie along a lot of the time. Oh, he is the horse to which this cart is hitched. Yeah, and luckily he's a giant man who could tug this movie along with no problem. But like, I think anything below what he's going to give you is gonna make it feel like, hmm, this is weird. What's he doing? Yeah. And you know why Claire Norman's into him because he's Dorchy Scott, so... Right.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Women, love a tall man. They do. Look at the Pete Davidson phenomenon. He apparently has a huge crank, too. Uh, look at the Jackson Hole phenomenon. I like huge crank this phrase you're using lately. I like it a lot. It's like, I like it a lot.
Starting point is 00:17:08 I like it because it's like locker room talk and you could also get away with saying it around a kid. They would have no idea what you're talking about. I think that, maybe you're right. My kid would definitely then later say huge crank and embarrass me. Anyway, yes, the movie moves along at this very mellow pace. And then these really terrible things happen, like a child getting hit by a dump truck or him sobbing, just openly, intensely weeping. He starts writing the black parade by my chemical romance.
Starting point is 00:17:39 She's like, tongue, tun, tun, what's happening right now? But I like when he's playing the piano and then you get like the deep thudding noise and he's like, hmm, what could that be? Not running, screaming from the house? No, he's like it's probably a pipe except it goes at a perfect rhythm forever. Yeah. Yeah. He's playing this whole movie in a very understated way.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Yes. But he's so good that it doesn't feel like like the the the thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. I's. I's. I's. t. I's. t. toeeeeeeeeeea. I's. I's. I'm. I'm. t. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. t. t a very understated way. Yes. But he's so good that it doesn't feel like he's just blowing it off. You know what I mean? It feels natural. Yeah, it feels like he's trying to play the movie like he thinks he would react to the movie. Yes. And I like that. Yeah, for sure. I really like him in his choices, but he's not like ridiculous. And like he's not going into fight a thing.
Starting point is 00:18:25 He's like, huh, what's this? He's very curious. Let me see what this is all about. And then he has a music party at his house with his music friends from school come over and play music together. Wow, they're playing so fast. That scene is wild. This made me realize that I could never handle being a classical musician. My God. Because when he's like, you were a little slow on the arpeggio on that one,
Starting point is 00:18:47 and I would just like, I can't do it anymore. I would be so sad. He's like, other than that, it was great. I'm so shit at taking criticism that it's just like, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'll tap all my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my my to to to to to to to to to to to to to to tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all to to to to to to to thi. I can't thin thin. I can't tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all tap all too good at anything, because the stakes are always a little bit low, you know what I mean? Jack of all trades. Jack of, a few trades, a few. Jack of trades that don't involve actually like fixing anything because I don't know how to do that.
Starting point is 00:19:15 So then him in tuttle are trying to figure out the noise, the pounding. I think we've also seen water turning on and off, or turning on at least, faucets. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, well I think yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Because Rob insists that that happened to us in our old apartment in the south side. Oh really? It is something only he experienced, he had a giggling shower ghost. he the toughs. the thrown, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th. th, th, th, they, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, th. th. th. they, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th. th. th was in the shower and it suddenly ran cold and he heard the water and the sink outside the bathroom running, and I guess it was on for a while, and he was like, are you gonna turn that off to me? And open the curtain and I wasn't there
Starting point is 00:19:55 because I had already gone to work. He insists that happened. I of course was not present. I was only in in in in in in in a a a thaaaaaaa. I was not. I was not tha. tha. th. th. th. th. th. thoooooooooooo. th. th. th. th. th. thooooooooooooooom. thi. thi. thi. thoooooo the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thea. thea. thea. theauu. theauiauau. theauiauauaua. thiaua. thia. th apartment once when I helped you move out of that apartment. When you donkey kicked my couch, when I donke kicked your calcipises because you told me I could. I had a grand old time doing it with Rob's father. Who was befuddled that this was happening? I could get you a hammer, ha! Such a solid friendship. But I would not doubt anything going janky in that apartment at any given moment. Because it was at like a 45 degree angle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah I would not. I would not a ghost just bad pipes. Yeah. Oh for sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:33 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. so. We are watching this movie and the water turned on and I wrote in my notes Robin Sis this happened to us and then he turned and he was like this is exactly what happened to us and I was like there it is right on cue. But I really like the dripping and running water and the there's like child's la'a'-sa'a'a' the like. the like the like the like the like the like the like the like the like the like the like the like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi. the the the the thi. thi. this this thi. this the the the the the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I's this. this. this. this. th. weaves in and out of the water sounds. Yes, you're not sure if it's air or someone laughing or what it is, but it's great. The subtitles kept saying, whooshing breath. Ooh, it sounds like ASMR. But I like the faucet like squeaking off, so it's being turned slowly off. Yes. It's good. It's good.
Starting point is 00:21:26 He goes to talk to Claire Norman about it at the Historical Preservation Society. And that's where we meet Minnie. Minnie is so dope. Minnie is a fucking snitch dog. Does not give a shit who she says anything to. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, if your name is Minnie and you're in a horror film, I'm probably a fan of you. Yeah, you're probably a sassy old lady.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Yeah, yeah. She's like, there are some questions about your lease. That house shouldn't have been rented. Ms. Norman didn't use the proper channels and pushed it through. Which is also like, why did Claire Norman do that? She wanted to fuck him.. And that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that to that to to get to get to get that that to get to get th, th, I th. I'm to get to get thoom, I'm to get to get the the to get to get tooomk. I's, tooomk. I's, to fuck him. Let me get you that good house dog. Oh. And then Minnie says, that house isn't fit to live in. It doesn't want people. And I love that from me.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Minnie's a real spookerino. Yeah. Oh, and the house shouldn't have been rented. It doesn't want to people. He's like, what? Minnie. And so then we cut to to to to to to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him to him that that that that that that that that that that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. No, I think that happens later. That happens later. That happens later. Because this is where the glass from the window. Yes, we see him coming out of his house and some red glass flies off the house at him. From a window that's way. the window. He says, oh hell no. He seems surprised that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the the window. th. th. th. th. thi. thi is thi is thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi is thi is that thi's thi's that's thiole is that thiole is thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi that happens happens happens happens. that happens happens. that happens. that happens. that happens happens. that happens. that happens. that happens. that happens. thi is is thi is thi is thi is thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi.too big for you. Yeah, I think that I was also surprised that it had that many windows.
Starting point is 00:22:48 It's a lot of windows. So he goes a goes to check it out. Yeah. Up into the attic. Finds a closet and he's like, well, this is just a closet. Holy smokes. It's not just a closet. What is it? He goes full angry dad and rips it? He goes full angry. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He goes full th. He goes full th. He's th. There's this sort of like, he's banging on the lock with a hammer maybe? And there's the deep like rhythmic pounding sounds again. And it's like he realizes that's maybe what the sound is? It's very creepy. Do you think Claire was excited about the deep rhythmic pounding? Oh, damn. I love that you heard me say deep rhythmic pounding
Starting point is 00:23:25 and you were like, Clare! But yeah, he does rip down a wall, which like if the ghosts don't get mad, the historical society's gonna. Oh, for sure. Yeah, you can't just do that. You just call the historical society and go, hey, I found a door. And they're like, oh, let she calls it. And that deep rhythmic pounding. That deep rhythmic pounding. Your secret door. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:23:49 it's your ball hole. But he's giving... I call it a secret garden. He's given real big mad-dad energy on that lock. Yes, he is. And then the door just like creaks open very spookly. Yeah, he gives it a couple like shoulder blasts and it's not budging and the door's like yeah calm down dude. I was gonna open. Just chill, God. Take a breath. I'm a dead baby. Leave me alone. Oh and inside is a creepy cobweb attic wheelchair. Can I ask you a question? Yeah. Did you know there's a difference between the words cobwebs and spiderweb? Uh-uh. Spider webs are active. Cobwebs are no longer being used by a spider. Okay. I just found this out recently.
Starting point is 00:24:31 That's fascinating. Yeah. So when they abandoned it, it becomes a cobwebub. Yes. Okay. So we were playing the dungeons and door dragons. Oh yeah, the's no spiders in here and Dave was like, yeah, it's cobwebs, why would there be? Fucking. I was just like, God damn it! I knew it would be Dave. Dave. Dave of the event horizon episode,
Starting point is 00:24:52 which you haven't, if you haven't listened to, please do. Katie loved it. Dave is a wonderful person. He's wonderful. He's wonderful. He's wonderful. But I was. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was like. I was like. I was like. I was like. I was like. I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like. I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was just. I was just. I was just. I was just, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, th. I was like, th. I was just like, th. I was just like, I was like, th. I was justthing about being friends with Dave is I feel like you learn things like that. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, uh, yeah, cobwebs are different than spider webs. So these are all cobwebs. Fascinating. Yeah. And the creepiest of all things, a child or something. You're like, oh no. Yeah, yeah, it's got big FDR vibes.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Minnie kind of look like Roosevelt. She looks like Teddy. She'd fuck with them, Pins-Niz glasses would. Yeah. Is that how you say that? I think so. I thought it was like Pinae or something. I've only ever read it. Same. If that's not how you say it, get in toucest. Okay, somebody will let us know. Hey, French people, get in touc. Hey, Canadians. We get downloads from both places. know you're listening. Yeah, or you have a VPN here in the US.
Starting point is 00:26:05 So he starts going through the papers. Mm-hmm. Oh, is this the microfiche scene? No, no, no, this is when he's going through the papers on the desk in the attic and finds a diary from 1909. With the initials CSB. Yes. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And, the. And. And. And. And, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. And. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. And yeah, and so the notebook is from January 4th, 1909. Yes. And then he's like, Claire, Claire, come over, come look at this stuff's crazy.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Because he has written a song that we've heard him play the piano. Oh, the music box. And the music box plays the same song. Yeah. First of all, fucking music boxes. When did they become so ominous? Like what is the first horror movie to use a music box to ominous effect?
Starting point is 00:26:51 That's an interesting question. Yeah. I'm loved to know. Who's the granddaddy of scary music boxes? But he has written the song of the box. Swear's he never heard it before. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's creepy. Yeah. And I love it because it's one of those things, it's like, it evokes this innocence of childhood,
Starting point is 00:27:12 and at the same time it's creepy AF. Yeah. So it's just like, it's real good spookery. Is that why music boxes are spooky because of the innocence of childhood? Maybe that might be part of it, you don't expect it to be like this harbinger of doom. But it always is. They always are.
Starting point is 00:27:30 And you know, like Jack in the box you're like, oh yeah, that's going to kill me. Obviously. Oh God. Anyway, he has decided that the house wants to communicate. Yeah. Yeah. Here's where I have I I I I I I I have I have I have I have I have I have I have I have I have I have I have I have I have the the the the the the the the that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. the. the the th. th. th. th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th yeah. Here's where I have the note, will all that hair helmet come back in style? We've also met this senator. Oh yeah, when he went to the symphony, the senator gave a little speech. Yeah, Senator Carmichael, who has helped the historical preservation society buy this house with a big grant? Mm-hmm. Wonder why?
Starting point is 00:28:05 Let's investigate. This is when they go to the microfiche. Yes. Another thing I've never gotten to do. Really? Really? Really? I used to use them, because the university,
Starting point is 00:28:19 I had them when I was in Delaware. Yeah. I would use them in high school. We used to go to the University of Library to look stuff up. Interesting. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, yeah, that was like micro-fish. Micro-fish. Micro-fish, they're just little fish. Teeny-tiny fish.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Like the ones that bite the skin off your feet. I thought you're going to talking the the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones to to to to to to to to to talk about about about about about about about about about about about about about about about about the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones the ones thoomomorrow that that thi. into your penis. Katie I would never. You what? Anyway we learn about Cora Bernard. I do like when they sit down to look at the microfiche George is like, you know, I'm driving. I'll be driving the micro-fiche. She works at the Historic Preservation Society. I bet she's really good with one of those machines. George, you know my woman hands can't do that. I almost feel like he reaches she reaches for and he slaps her hand away. I know he doesn't but it feels that way. Mmm, sandwich! Shubs her into the kitchen that's suddenly there. Like you're a composer, she's a historian. Yeah. So yes, we learned that the the notebook is that of Cora Bernard.
Starting point is 00:29:20 A child who was hit and killed by a coal cart, which is a little bit similar to getting hit by a dump truck, I guess. And then we learn later in the micro-fiche that she died of she succumbed to the coal car hitting. She did. She succumbed to the coal car. Yep. So they go to her grave. And I think the article also mentioned her having a brother. Yes. And we have also seen him have a vision of a kid being drowned in a bathtub at this point. In the attic. Has that happened? Yes. Because it's very upsetting. Yeah, he sees how the child dies. Yes. Yes. I thought that was after the seance when the kid's saying my father to him. I thought it was when he... no, you're right.
Starting point is 00:30:11 That happens after, but before that he's seen a face in the bathtub water. Oh yeah, yeah, when the water's turning itself off when it's having a rob experience. I love that too because he looks in and like the camera is so close to the water that the kid's face like fades in and out of the water. It looks very flat and fadey. It's very cool. It looks like when those people like print out faces and put them inside of jars it looks like there's a head inside of a jar. Have you ever seen this? No. I love that though. Yeah. I love that kind of, it had a very flat effect to it. It was very interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:47 You're right though, he has not yet seen the vision. Okay. Right. But why does he decide to have a seance? Do you remember what happens? He's, well, he's decided that the house is trying to talk to him because he is doing something and the ball he is brought to Seattle comes bouncing down the steps. Very spooky.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Very spooky. So he does what any rational human would do. This is wild. He takes the ball for a ride. He's like, we're just going to go around for a ride. Come on, ball. Come with me. Takes into the river and lightly drops it into the Seattle, or whatever body of water they have in Seattle. Can't believe, oh my god, can't believe he threw his kid's ball off a bridge though.
Starting point is 00:31:28 It's like a memory of his little girl. He bothered, it took a 3,000 mile journey to be like, ah, ghost kid, fuck this shit. Yeah, it's not gonna get rid of the ghost kid. So it goes right in the Puget Sound. There you go. Lake Chicago. I like that I only got a minimal amount of shit for them. Did people, were people like, God, it's like, it's not cold. It's fine. It's fine. We know. We know. We're not as stupid as we pretend to be. Oh God, we couldn't be. So he gets home, he's like, weep, all pleased with himself. Nothing to see here.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Takes his jacket off and hangs it up. Takes his pants off and jacks it. And then there's some, that is not a new ball. I mean it's that is a wet ball. It was wet! It was wet. Oh that's good I like it. Yeah. And then I ask myself why is he still here? He's no under no obligation. It's not like in one of those movies where they bought the house and they've sunk their life savings into it and what are they going to do? I want to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the their their I their I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I that I that I that I that I want that I that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I that I that I that I that I that I that I I I I that I that I I that. I I I I that. I I that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I that I that I that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I that I that I that I that I that I that I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I the. I want that I want that I want that I want that I want that I want th. I want that I want that I want that I want that I want that I want that I want that I want that I want the. I want I want I the. I want to make a 20 minute version of this movie, which is just a black man going, nah, I'm good. Just getting in his car and driving away and then the credits roll over his car. Yeah, not not worth it. No, I'm going to Claire's. You think Claire would let him say over, come on. Claire would love it. Loves that deep for the big pounding.
Starting point is 00:33:06 I mean I walked into it. I'm a child. I'm sorry. No, you're a male. So he's bugging the fuck out. And he's so good at bugging out. He is. It seems very natural.
Starting point is 00:33:17 Yeah. I think it's because he's so kind of stoic the rest of the time that when he's buggy, like when he's sobbing, when he loses control of his emotions, you're like, no, dad said. Then they have this very quick cut scene of him deciding to hire a medium. It's super clumsy and you know they had to put it in later because they were, someone watched it and was like, well, why would he hire the medium though, where he's just talking to a German doctor in the, uh, uh, where.. where th. where he's th. where he's th. where he's th. where he's th. Where he's th. Where he's th. Where he's th. Where he's th. Where he's th. Where he's th. Where he's th. thi thi's thi's thi. Well, thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. the the. the. the. the. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the. the. thethe... That's a psychic research center of the university? It's a psychic research center of the university where he is a music professor. They still got those? Oh yeah I majored in psychic relations. Oh art history and psychic relations. It's journalism, art history and psychic relations. I never get to use my degrees. Because I know around this
Starting point is 00:34:00 time a lot of universities did because that's where Peter Vankven worked. Sure. A couple of wave the the the their th, th, th, th, th, thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thu, thu- thu- thu- thu- thu- thu. Where, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where thu, where th, where thu thu thu thu thi, where thi, where thi, where thi, where thi, thi, where thi, where he's their their their their their their their their their their theyyuiiiiii. Where thii. Where he's thi, where he's that's where Peter Van worked. Sure. A couple of wavy lines. So yes there's this one scene where they introduce this one doctor to be like oh no mediums are very real I like mediums they are good. One percent of them. Let me give you the number of a good medium. Yes that's what's implied. So okay fine they're having a seance. And why is Claire's mom there? Does Claire live with her mom? Why is her mom always showing it? 100% lives with her mom. Because she's not married yet, so she has to stay living with her mother.
Starting point is 00:34:32 It's 1980 though. It's a chase to 1980. Okay, fair enough. I'm surprised Claire doesn't refer to herself as a spinster at any point during this movie. Or her mother calling her a spinster. So yeah, the two mediums, well the medium and her man servant come over whose name is Eric Christmas. that's a great name. Irl his name is Eric Christmas.
Starting point is 00:34:59 That's a great name. I would sign at X-Miss though. Yeah, yeah, that's good. I just noticed that I have a note when she invites him to go riding and she says do you ride? And I just wrote do you ride? That ass. Oh, it is really a disappointment that they do not fuck in this movie. Yeah, exactly. A lot of buildup for them to not fuck. I think I also wrote that note assuming that I would not have that the thu fu fu fu fu fu fu fu th fu th fu th fu th fu th fu fucking idea why I wrote that note later. And here you are. So yeah, the medium show up. With a medium in her lackey.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Yes, so it's the medium her lackey, George C. Scott, Claire and her mom. Where mom's like, oh God! Claire, if you're going to go on a date with this gentleman, I would like to go with you. I was developing this like rich back story for Claire's mom where she just like can't be left alone not because she's senile but because she just like I don't know. She's too wild she'll throw a party she's doing cocaine you know. Do you know that in real life Claire's mom is four years older than Claire? Really? Really? I love this. They put a lot of makeup on that woman. Yeah, it worked. It's
Starting point is 00:36:05 pretty good. Yeah, she's fine. No, older women around. Higher. No, you can't hire them. Older women don't work. I forgot. Sorry, older women. Cookies. Older women who are listening, I apologize. Do you think we have many, many older women listening? Oh yeah? yeah, oh yeah. Tuning in for the Alan, huh? Anyway, you love automatic writing, don't you? I do love automatic writing. I was like, Alan's so mad right now. I like it as a film conceit. Sure. I'm into all occult shit if it's movie stuff or or book stuff or whatever, or music. You're like, don't expect me to believe this I-
Starting point is 00:36:44 but once you're like, what's your sign? Fuck, no I'm not doing that. Wait, is that a cult? Oh, for sure. Oh, yeah, I guess, huh? Yeah. What are you? You're Pisces, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:36:55 No. The other one? I don't know what the cusp. Oh, are you now? Yeah, between Capricorn and Aquarius. And when I told Amanda from the Goul on Goul podcast this, she was like, no, you're an Aquarius because you need everybody to like you. I was like, Ouch!
Starting point is 00:37:17 I don't get that vibe from you. Well, I do. I need everyone to like, that vibe from you. Well, I do. I need everyone to like, yeah, I know. No, I know you say that, but like, yeah, it's fine. I see you as a very self-assured human being. Oh my god. I'm a puddle of jelly. What's it, what is your sign? Then you're a Taurus? No. What's next? I don't know. I'm in Ares. I'm in Aries. What's that mean? I don't fucking nothing nothing. It anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything anything? It it that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. I that's that's that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that. I that's that. I that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. I that. I that. I that doesn't mean anything. Sorry! I really don't know anything about it. They go through a lot of paper in that business though. How much, they brought a ream? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:56 Yeah. And the go through most of it. But I like that, like the idea of like someone being possessed by a ghost that's writing down and they have no idea what it is. Yeah. And she's writing really hard too. Yeah. And the sound is very loud. The sound design of this is very loud and it's very good. It adds this like sort of like mounting rhythm to it. A deep pounding rhythm would you say? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:38:20 A deep scraping rhythm anyway. And, um, but I like this because, um, so she's like, will you talk to us? Will you talk to us? And, uh, Mr. Christmas, because, yes. Yeah, he like really brings down the tension. Joseph. Jojo, help, help, John. Yeah, but I really like that of like, you know, she has no idea what's going on. She's, you know, she has th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the tension. Joseph. Joseph. John, help, help, John. Yeah, but I really like that of like, you know, she has no idea what's going on. She's just asking these questions.
Starting point is 00:38:50 And she's crying while she's doing it too, which I thought was a really nice touch. And she's asking them in this like totally monotone voice. Yeah. It's very good. Yeah. It's thaaa. It's tha. It's very good. It's very good. tha. tha. tho. thiii. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that. that. tho, tho-a. that. that. that. tho, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. the. the. the. thi. the. tho. the. thi. thi. the. the. th. And then they move on to the seance portion of it? Yeah. Where there's like a spirit horn in the middle of the... I don't know, I didn't know what that was. So it's a, it's a, supposedly it's a horn that the ghost can talk through.
Starting point is 00:39:14 It was just one of the things mediums would use. That's so silly. I really really thah. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. their. think all the ephemera to that stuff is like neat and I love the almost like carnivalesque charlatry or charlatanisms. I like the Charlie of it all. But with like the like and like the weird, like there was like a weird sexuality to a lot of it too where they're like they would force the mediums to be naked who were predominantly women so they could see if they're doing anything weird so they would like pack themselves filled with like gauze to be like spirit cause to come out and stuff so it was just all this vaginas yeah yeah which added like this like titlati the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their their their ty. ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttthe they're they're this like titillation for people that like this was happening Yeah, yeah, yeah, all the time people had a lot of like sexual hang-ups to get through.
Starting point is 00:40:11 Yeah, and like nothing else to do really. Sure. Yeah, but it also like it gave the women like kind of put them in a seat of power over these situations too. It's fascinating if you ever like read about the medium ship and all that stuff. I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, th, th, yeah, thi thi thi, yeah, yeah, the tha, tha tha tha tha theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, theat, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, the the the the the the the the the the the ty ty ty ty ty ty thauo-y people, ty thauole-y people, ty people, ty people, thea, thea, thea, thea, the- I'll look into it. Eh, you won't. I won't. I just think conning people is kind of reprehensible. Sure, sure. Yeah. I don't like magic. I don't like it. It does nothing for me.
Starting point is 00:40:39 It's so weird. Like, when someone does a trick, I'm like, thin. the bar with my mother-in-lap, tho, tho, tho, tho, I'm like, okay. Yeah. You can do a think I can't do, cool. Once I was at the bar with my mother-in-law and a magician came up and started talking to us and he stole her watch, and then like brought it back a little bit later and was like, oh, this is your watch. She was like, you just stole that from me. Like a cool trick I guess, I bumped at parallel parking. Here's your three-year-old.
Starting point is 00:41:06 What? I didn't even have a kid. Okay, so they're having, yeah, the seance portion. Yes. And I love this god-dam, the ghost POV down the stairs. Yeah. So good. Claire's mom looks like she shit herself.
Starting point is 00:41:24 She's so scared She is Her whole reason to be here is like yeah, no one's gonna believe that Georgie Scott is scared so if you could just be scared Because he's just one eyebrow up the entire time like what the fuck is this shit? Yeah kind of skeptical. Yeah, he's Experiencing it himself. Yeah, and then they leave the seances over. Yeah, because Yeah, because? Yeah, there? Kind. Yeah, kind. Yeah, kind. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There? It? It? It's? Yeah, there. There. There. There. There. There. There. there. there. there. there. there. there's there's there's there's there's the the the the the the the they. the the the the the the the their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their whole whole whole. their whole. their whole. their whole. their whole. their their their their their then they leave. The seances over. Yeah. Because... There was like some eerie moaning and like the tables shaking, but also Mr. Christmas's hands are under the table. So you're like, well he's shaking the table. Yeah. But then when they leave, John's recorded the whole thing. Yes. Let me go back and listen to that.
Starting point is 00:42:06 Let's hear. And he hears the voice of a child answering the questions verbally. Yes. His name is Joseph Carmichael. Yeah. Which is the name of the rich man. Yeah. Yeah. What could it mean? What could it mean? What could it mean?
Starting point is 00:42:27 But I love this like, oh shit moment that he had that John Russell, George C. Scott is. Yes, and he still does not leave the house. No. He doesn't leave the house and he's like, hey, I'm all fucking your girlfriend up with this. There is a ghost. There is a ghost, a baby ghost. Yo, girl, you want to come over and hear my ghost tapes? But he does play the ghost tape where there's a ghostly whisper of, no, and he listens to it three times. And you're like, stop. Stop.
Starting point is 00:42:59 My room, can't walk. My father, father, father I took the dark my metal you're like what use your words Joseph it was with the ghost says body wet body wet yeah like I don't know we're gonna see the next scene what happened so you probably didn't need to say that out loud but here we are but I love that reveal of the thudding the tub the they. Yeah the cast iron tub because his father's way to drowning him the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to the to the to the to the the to to the the to the to the took. the took. took. took. took. took. took. took. took. So took. took. the took. the the the the took. the took. the took. took. took. took. took. took. took. took. took. took took. took took took took took took. took. the the the the the the the the the the the took. the took. the took the took took took took took took took the took took the took the took the took the took the took took took the thudding noise is Joseph pounding the tub. Yeah the cast iron tub because his father's way of drowning him, he's in like this real high-walled bathtub, yeah, in the attic. His father grabs him by his ankles and just holds his ankles out of the tub so the kid can't move. Right. We're told he doesn't have use of his legs by the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the toe so toe so toe so toe so toe so tub so tooomb so tooomb so tooomb so tooombs, tooomb so tooombs, so tooombs, so tooombs, so tooomb so tooomb so tooomb so tooomb some some someaub some some someaun. So tobe, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tub, tube getting himself out of the tub which is just like, ew! And he's like, body wet, the well. Yeah. And then John kind of comes to and sees that he has written
Starting point is 00:43:59 down all of these words. Yes. So I was like you're automatic writing for the people. To which I wrote down, go to a hotel my good sir, just for these words. Yes. So I was like, you're automatic writing for the people. To which I wrote down, go to a hotel, my good sir, just for the night. Yeah, I mean, you love it, like in Poltergeist, that family doesn't stay in that house if the ghost don't kill their kids, steal their daughter. Yeah. Like if they were just out, they were gone. Right. Right. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. So he calls Claire, Claire comes over, or he passes out while he's on the phone with Claire. He takes a really good bump too.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Yeah, he does. And she comes over and of course she crying. Claire's really sad. Yeah, yeah, really sad. And then she's like, yeah, there used to be an orphanage called Sacred Heart, because the kid mentioned Sacred Heart. Which we don't hear the kid say. We're just told about it later, yeah. We can't hear all the kids words. We heard body wet. What else? Body wet? The will? She then is like walking through the hallway. Yeah. And then just freezes, looking up the stairs. The the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tia.a. tia. ti. ti. toda. toda. toda. today is. today is. today is. today is. today. the the the hallway and then just freezes looking up the
Starting point is 00:45:05 stairs at the wheelchair. It's so good. That is one of the most terrifying scenes in this film. She's playing it so well. So well and then he's like the fuck comes around the quarter and the small wheelchair is at the top of the steps. And then the scene just cuts and now it's daytime and he's just walking around on the street. Why does it do that? It's such a weird transition. I think it's because if you hang out on just a cobwebby wheelchair for too long, it's like, well, okay, yeah, it's just piece of furniture now. It's not that scary.
Starting point is 00:45:34 But yeah, I guess, all right. And so you get that initial, like, it's not a jump scare, that's just, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that just that initial reveal. God, she sells it so well. Oh, it's perfect. Yeah. But what I'm saying is the next scene isn't him walking into a hotel. Exactly. The next day, he just went upstairs and went to sleep. Did he move the chair out of the way? They're not kicking him out of his house.
Starting point is 00:45:55 What is happening? It's not his house. It's a short-term-term-term-term-term-term-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-t-tum-tum-tum-tum-tum-tum-tum-tum-tha-tha-a-tha-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-a-n't-in the-in the-is-is-is-is-is-is-is-is-is-is-is-is-is. It isn't the the the next, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't, isn't the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the-ne-ne. the-ne. the-nease-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-a-n't-a-n't-a-n't-n't-a-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-n't-nease-nease-nease-sease So they pretty quick put together what's happened. Right. That the current Joseph Carmichael was a replacement baby gotten from the orphanage. Right. Taken to Switzerland and staying there for the duration of Dub-1. Right. And then brought back as an 18-year-old.
Starting point is 00:46:24 Yes. He, we are told that, that, because the child's father was a public figure. Right, right, right. So he, it's in the paper that he's taking his, you know, his wheelchair-bound son to Switzerland for this experimental treatment. And the Carmichael's, or the family that the father has married into is wealthy. He is not wealthy himself. Oh, okay, I miss that, but yeah. So the wealth comes from the grandfather. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:46:53 And in the grandfather's will, it skipped over the father and went directly to Joseph Carmichael. Right. Yes, died in childbirth. Died in childbirth. And in the will it stated that if Joseph Carmichael dies prior to his 21st birthday, the money all goes to charity. None of it will ever go to the father. Right, right. Which is just wild. Which is just wild.
Starting point is 00:47:21 I mean, which is like, oh, either dad is a real shithead or grandfather just hated dad for some reason. Yeah. And, and it like, but it's like, this felt very call of catholo to me where they're just like putting all the pieces together through research. Yes, they like go to the library and talk to the librarian and I wrote this is very called Kithulu going to talk to different experts in these like short little scenes to get different clues. I love that guy who's like, well, I love a land of, uh, I'll look at its maps. He has so much set up for them. He's so helpful. This used to be a ranch and then the ranch got broken up than these plots of the well still here when you go on to 1914 but when you go back to 1918 well it's not there anymore now it's just a house with a house in a whale and a whale in the house he was like this is a
Starting point is 00:48:07 project and I'm very excited for it no one has talked to me in six years but yeah so so George C. Scott says to Claire Norman the money the money money was to be distributed at age 21 and he decided he he he he he he he he th the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th I th. th. th. th. th. th is th. th. thus thus thus thus thus thus thus. thus. th. Grandpa was right. Yeah. Yeah. Or it's just like rich people keeping money and blood, you know what I mean? Like the grandchild is his blood and the, because the son-in-law could have fucked off and married someone else and taken all the wealth of the family. Right. So so brutal. Fuck me. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. that's that's that's that's that's that. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah........ Yeah. Yeah..... Yeah.. Yeah.... th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. good lord. So we find the property where the well has been built. Yeah, the gray residents, if you will. Mrs. E. Gray. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Yeah. Yeah. She tells us that three nights ago, her kid had a nightmare about a boy-nome-like creature trying to come up through the floor. Fuck me. And at this point I'm watching this movie and I'm going, hey, the Conjuring? Take some notes. Take some fucking notes. You know what they haven't done yet? Showed me anything. No, and you know what they haven't done yet?
Starting point is 00:49:15 Had that really creepy guy, Patrick Wilson, his weird smile. You know what they haven't done yet? Played that game that everyone knows, hide and clap. The kid's room has a lot of plants in it. No wonder she's having no nightmares. What the fuck? I was like, is this kid growing weed and hiding it from her mother? She's either growing weed and hiding it from her mother or it's also just like a long-term employee at an office who has just gathered these plants from other people's offices every time they quit. It refers to the messered children. Yeah. That's why I have the note, cool kids room.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Got to water the spider babies. Yeah, cool kids room indeed. Poor Linda. She didn't ask for any of this. No. No. So mom's like, yeah, why don't you guys go away? I'll think about tearing that. Because she's like, you want to tear the floor out of my house, right? And look for this will, and he's like, I absolutely do, yeah. Yeah. But he's a rich guy, so it's okay. I think you did a little bit. Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, well cut to mom and Linda sleeping in the same bed. Yeah, and Linda gets up out of bed and starts walking.
Starting point is 00:50:29 She's being led by something. Poor baby Linda. Yeah, she walks into her former buplanted bedroom and looks at the floor and sees a little boy swimming in the floor. Yeah, she, ah, she didn't deserve any of this. No, but it's so good. Yeah, very good spookery. It is very. It is. It is. It. the. the. the the the the the the the the the to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to to. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to. I. to. I. to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the the. the to. too. the the. the. the too. too. the the. the the too. the the too. the floor. Yeah, she didn't deserve any of this. No, but it's so good. It's very good spookery. It is very good. Because we're looking up at her in the watery well. Yeah. What the fuck? So mom's like, yeah, let's cut this fucking floor out. They dig so far down this well. With Tony, her son, who's a real clean-cut guy. Tony. Toni. T say that? No, you didn't, but I just love Tanny. And both Tony and John Russell are so clean for having dug 30 feet of dirt out of this rule house. I mean, this house's foundation is shook. It's done for. So he hops, John Russell, Dorothy Scott hops down there and he's like,
Starting point is 00:51:21 Dig to dig, found a hand! Yeah. Found a hand! Mrs. Gray's like, I'm gonna call the police. And I was like, that's the first sensible thing anyone's done. Because he should not be in that house anymore. Well, luckily he never goes back into that home after the cop show up and tell him that they're going to talk to him later. But what the fuck he's doing? for him. Why would he do that? I don't know. That's mean. She's so kind. I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's wild. So the cops ask him, they're like, well, you seem to know exactly where to find this. Who is it? And he's like, I don't know. And Claire Norman's like, what? And he's like, oh? What now? What now? He breaks back in, climbs back down the hole. Very spry for to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to the the th th the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. thii, thi. He's the thi. thi. thi. He's thi. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's theeeananneeanneeannea. He's theanneeanneeannee. He's thi. He's thi. He's in, climbs back down the hole, very spry for a 51-year-old.
Starting point is 00:52:09 I thought he was very spry for a 67-year-old. And there's this great reverse shot of a necklace coming up out of the ground and be like, hey, I was here the whole time. My metal. Which would not present itself to the police because we're told that the police have searched for it. Exactly. But the baby ghost loves John Russell. I was like here have my metal. Loves him but it's also really menacing him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Do what two would I say or I'm will get real windy on your ass. Also the ghost has power outside of its tether to the home. Yeah, I mean it went to the fucking Puget Sound, got a ball, brought it back to the house.
Starting point is 00:52:45 Ghost can swim. But I guess it does have like water-based power, so that makes sense. All right. I'm just trying to figure out the logic of the film. Yeah. So he tries to bust in to see Carmichael at the airport. He tries to like run him over on the tarmac. He should have been shot. Yeah. There's so many things that he does and I'm like, there's no way you're walking out of this live, buddy. I know. This is what a 51-year-old white man in 1980 could get away with. Very, very, very true. I don't think, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:15 I don't think Hankleyinkley, we follow him on Twitter. We do? Yeah, of course we do. He recently retweeted someone making a poster that said Hankley for president. Oh my god. Oh man, bless you. I love that you were like, let's see if John Hinkley has a Twitter. Ah, he does. Follow.
Starting point is 00:53:43 Well, I was following his tour dates. He's a musician. Oh, I wasn't aware. Yeah, and he was doing tours until people found out that John Hinkle was doing a tour and got all of his tour dates canceled. Really? Yeah, he served his time. Come on, people. Yeah, if we don't believe in the rehabilitation of the prison prison prison prison prison, do we have it? Also fuck wrong ring. Oh yeah, had it coming. Best not miss next
Starting point is 00:54:06 time if he were he not dead. His click presidential campaign should be everyone deserves a second shot. It's a double-on-tone. So true. So he like flashes the necklace at Karamukla's like, yeah I know what you're doing dog. And who then like pulls out his own. And he's like, the the the own. And he then like, like, that, the th. Why th. Why th. Why th. Why th. Why th. Why th. Why, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the the th. tho, he tho, he- he- he- he- he- he- he- he- he- he- he- he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he, he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he the the the the the the the the the the thi. thi. thin. the. the. th. the. the. to thee. thee. thee, the. thee, the. thee. thee. thee. th. thee. thue. So he like flashes the necklace at Carmelton, he's like, yeah, I know what you're doing, dog? And who then like pulls out his own and is like, ah! Like, don't look at me, don't look at me. And Carmicle says, hey, get Captain DeWitt on the blower and get him to go make this guy an offer he can't refuse. And Captain DeWitt is doing the first truly efficient police questioning or police work in general that we've ever seen in a horror movie. Ever! Because he's questioning George C. Scott and kind of backs him into a corner of like, well, you know, you must know something.
Starting point is 00:54:59 You're like, wow, that's really good. And he just came to get the fucking medal. And old people might know him as the the the th. You the th. You th. You th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi thi. thi. thi. to to thi. to to thi. to to to thi. to to tho to thi. thi. to to to to to to th. to th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to to to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to to thi. And, the. And, too. And, tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooe. And, the. And, the. good and then it's like oh he just came to get the fucking metal. Yeah. And old people might know him as the big bad guy from the original Battlestar Galactica TV show. Oh okay. He's Baltar, I think it was a tellain I think was his name anyway yeah why would you know that? I think it was off the air by the time you were born. Really? Yeah, they're all the same the the th th th th th th th by th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi tried to watch the new one. I got a little ways into it and it's not bad, but it's a sci-fi TV show. Yeah, they're all the same though, aren't they? Kind of, yeah. Don't come out of sci-fi. Please, I only like hard sci-fi.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Oh man, that's so good. I don't even know what hard sci-fi is. When he gets mad at the person, he's like, it's not hard sci-fi. Hard sci-fi? What is hard sci-fi? What is hard sci-fi? I don't know. Hard-scifi? I don't know how you love the Star War.
Starting point is 00:55:54 Oh, I'm not into that at all. I like the super flu. You love of Ben Canobi. I don't know who that is. Is that Obi-Wan? They're the same person? Well, I don't know, it could have been his kid. Oh, so DeWinneau. It's like, oh, he's trying to blackmail the dude. Just give me the fu. the necklack. Yeah. And he's like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, oh, that, that, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh's like, no, uh-uh, leave my house. Yeah. So he does, what's the kid do? What does the kid do? Because... Oh, the kid flips his car in the middle of the street and kills the detective. That's right. The captain is dead. The car is flipped in the middle of the road, no one else is around? Right. Because while DeWit's there, Claire shows up and she's like, you're not going. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the to. the the the the the the to. the the the the the the the the the kid. the kid. th. the kid. the kid. th. th. th. th. th. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the kid. the the the the the the the the th. th. th. thi. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tip. tode. like, you're not going to believe the, oh, hello. Yeah. And he looks into a broken mirror and sees like the cop's face. Yeah, the mirror breaks on him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and like cuts his neck. Yes. Yeah. And, but like I love that scene of like
Starting point is 00:56:56 zooming out of the hole where the cop's face is in the windshield. Yes. Joseph, you mean. Because, Joseph, Joseph, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the th mean. Because also this is after John Russell has laid into him to into the kids ghost, calling him a god damn son of a bitch. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's a kid's ghost. Just get out. Yeah. Maybe he was pissed off and that's why he killed the cop. I mean, can you imagine how insane a kids ghost would be though? Like children are bonkers when they're upset about something? You don't say. I don't say. And so, can you imagine, like, a bonkers child, unlimited powers? That's why Stephen King is terrified of them.
Starting point is 00:57:31 That is a really good point. And I don't, yeah, I can't live with that. And Claire calls, he's like, you're not going to believe this. That's, I think he goes to Claire's house because her mom's there like, Claire. Just wandering in and out of the movie. So when he finally meets with Carmichael, he's like, I tried to talk to you at the airport, and it's like, bullshit you did. You try to drive a car drive drive drive drive drive a car drive a car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car car to to drive a car to drive a car to drive a car into a car into a car and to drive a car into a car into car into car and to drive a car and to to to to drive a car into to drive a car into a car into a car into a car into a car into a car into a car and to to to to to to to to to drive a car into to drive a car into to drive to drive to drive to drive to drive to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to drive a car into the car into the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and the car and to him and to the car and the car and to the car and to to to to to, you're trying to blackmail me, why don't you go fuck yourself?
Starting point is 00:58:06 And he's like, you know what? Here's the necklace. Here's the tapes with your fucking dead you on it. Here's all the articles I got. Do with what you want? I'm fucking dumb with this shit. And he starts to cry. He's cryingthe replacement kid. I don't know, because we're told he's adopted when he was six, which like you can easily,
Starting point is 00:58:31 you could easily get rid of the memories of a six-year-old like that. For sure. Like, remember when you were three and we went to the carnival and you tell that kid that story enough times, I think it's real. You can absolutely brainwash a child. Okay, okay. Sid with a little too much confidence. Well, it kind of happened this year when I turned my child against something that she just got really upset about and I was like, oh no, this is my fault. It's so easy to radicalize a child. It's so easy.
Starting point is 00:59:00 It's true. I don't remember. It was about little, little. I hate it. You really do. I appreciate how much you hate it. I fucking hate it. It's for prox. It's fair. Anyway, I also like this part where the senator's aide is leaving and closing the door and then just turns and looks directly into the camera. He like almost pulls it off. He's like doing it, doing it it doing it I'm not looking I'm not looking I'm not looking
Starting point is 00:59:26 I'm not looking ah So while this is happening Claire's like calls John and he doesn't answer she's gotta go see what John's doing he could be taking a shit like this is when people didn't have phones with them in the shitter, you know, this is what people shit it. Yeah, this is what people shitted. Shitted with just a magazine. God, the... I hate that I live in a time period where I'm expected just to answer the phone. Yeah. A lot of time I wasn't home when I was a kid. The phone would just ring and ring and no one was there.
Starting point is 00:59:58 Right. So she goes over and the kids mimicking John's voice to get her into the attic. John. I guess they wouldn't say John. Claire Norman. It doesn't sound like him very much because it sounds like it has a lot of reverb on it, like a ghost. You want to come upstairs for some deep rhythmic bounding. She fucking buys it too, like no amount of money can get me to go upstairs in
Starting point is 01:00:22 that haunted house. She's like, John! She knows it's spooky. And then a very creepy and very silly thing happens to her. The wheelchair? She gets chased by a wheelchair. It's like, and menaces her once and then chases her, which I really like. And it's like going up and down flights of stairs after her with no noise. And so is she. Yeah. She's killing it though. She's doing so well.
Starting point is 01:00:46 I was like, oh man, she's gonna die in these fucking, this last step, like last set of stairs when she bales down it. She's fine, totally fine. A little boo-bos, but not too bad. Yeah, she can take a boat. And the beautiful channel the ground and he grabs her and she's like, yeah, no, I don't want that to happen right now. Yeah, also because the banister is on fire. I love this.
Starting point is 01:01:11 It looks super cool, but how does the ghost do this? Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And while this is happening, what's happening with the metal? What's happening with the desk of new John Carmichael. Yes, who has put the metal over the portrait of his murderous father. Right, right. It's shaking the portrait as well.
Starting point is 01:01:32 It's so good. So then John sees Joseph Carmichael the adult walking into the house. Walking into the house, and then it's going up the steps before the house. Yes. And we're like, oh, wow, why did that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th th th tho? tho? tho? thi? the the thoom? the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi? thooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. thoooooooooo. th thoooooooooo. th. th. th. th. further into the house. Yes. And we're like, oh, well, why did that man come to the house? And then it flashes back to his office where he's still holding the desk while it's shaking and then has a fucking heart attack and dies. So in whose mind is that happening? John's? It's just like, I think it's like some spirit, like, uh, out-of-of-body-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, thus, thus, thi, th-s, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thi. thi. And, thi, thi, thi, th. And, th. And, th. And, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-s, th-a-s. And, thi-s. And, thi-s. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi-a-body experience shit that's happening for John, or Joseph Carmichael,
Starting point is 01:02:07 that John's also seeing because he's so connected to this situation. Got it. The house blows up, like how? And how? And how? It blows up, burns down? Yeah. They get out. John's all bloody, all cut up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:21 They rush to Joseph Carmichael's house, see him being pulled out in a fucking ambulance. He is dead. He's dead or than dead. Yeah. At this point I thought, oh, you just had to get his replacement killed. He was like 80. He could have just waited a few more years, you know? Yes, but now people know. But this does not lay the ghost to rest? No, we go back to the house where we see the wheelchair is sitting next to the music box which opens and winds itself up and starts playing. Why can't
Starting point is 01:02:49 he be at rest? I don't know because it's a spooky movie. I guess. Can you be spooky times? Also how is everyone not like, I'm sorry, sir, madam the fuck are you doing in this house? My father? My father, the senator? the thi thoo. th. th. thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thu, thu, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thooooo tho thoooo thoo thooo thoo tho tho tho thi. th. Who are you? My father, the senator. Yeah, who are you and why are you here? Why did you try to attack the senator the other day? Yeah, I mean, it feels like he has some things to answer for. Yeah, yeah. But then we get this great shot of just like the smoldering remains of the go to the ratings face? I do. Body, wet.
Starting point is 01:03:27 Rating... Eight. Oh, nice. Great. Yeah. As you heard of this film before? No. I didn't even know George C. Scott was ever in a horror movie.
Starting point is 01:03:40 Sure. He's in the Exorcist 3 as well, which we have not done, but we should at some point. A film I have never seen. It's got Brad Durf in it. Oh, and it's basically he got his role in the X-Files where he plays multiple, that multiple character guy. Yeah, yeah. Because he's doing the exact same thing in Excesses 3. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:03 And he's also Chuckie. He's also Chuckie. You know how much I love Childsburg, too. Yeah, I do. Perfect film. What about you? Uh, I'm gonna give this a nine. You had seen this before. It scared the shit to me when I was a kid.
Starting point is 01:04:21 And I still got goosebumps a couple times in it. And I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, and I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, I'm thi, thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I tho, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I'm thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi? thii? thiii, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi Yeah. And I still got goosebumps a couple times in it. Yep. And I think if you like throw this movie on with like the Omen or the Exorcist, it fits in perfectly with that era of horror movie. Absolutely. And like you're not going to get let down by it. If you're trying to do like a dead kid rock block, yeah. Yeah, we're better than a mad dad, or bad dad for a rock block, which we tried to do. Oh, we did not try. We did on accident. Yeah. Oh, great. Well, thanks for introducing me to this movie. I'm so glad I did. It's so good. And happy spooky season. Happy spooky season, everyone.
