Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 488- Day of the Dead (1985)

Episode Date: August 19, 2024

This week, in true Werewolf Ambulance style, we're diving headfirst into a film series by beginning somewhere in the middle: we're discussing the 1985 George Romero film "Day of the Dead." Special top...ics for your consideration include: having a very shitass day at work, fantastic practical effects, a film of Pittsburgh royalty, comparisons to "Short Circuit," an absolutely bananas score, and an ode to my neighbor and yours but actually mine Tom Savini.  If there was a Pittsburgh Mt. Rushmore, you'd better bet George Romero would be on it (and not that asshole Andy Warhol). Catch his other films that we've covered in Episodes 21 and 249- "Creepshow" and "Creepshow 2," respectively, and Episode 137- "Monkey Shines." The regular lineup of links! You can support us at patreon.com/werewolfambulance and listen to a ton of action movie episodes. Starting point is 00:00:00 I have been to the Bloomfield pool. Can I get a breaking news update? Did a tdut, did a tdoo, tido, tiddoo, tidda, tut, tidlta, too da. I have been to the Bloomfield Pool. Oh, no fewer than a dozen times this year. Yeah. I have been to the Bloomfield Pool. No fewer than a dozen times this year. Certainly more. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:30 I didn't see Tom Savini once. Maybe he's out of tel making. He must be out of town. Yeah, making movies or something. Someone in his house is getting packages though. I know. And groceries. Stop it, you creep.
Starting point is 00:00:43 I'm not a creep. He's my fucking neighbor. I glance at his stairs. I glance at his stairs. Longingly. Oh yes, I want to be on Tom Savini's stairs. I could be there if I wanted you. I could do it on my way home. Guys, Tom Savini is my neighbor. Do you know that? Well, Tom, we hope to see you at the pool sometime. I mean, it's going to close in a couple.. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the pool to the pool to the pool the pool the pool to the pool to to the pool to to to to to to to tooomom tooom the the the tooom. tooom. tooomeaniaicon to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tomoombue. tombue. tom tom tom tom tom tom tom tom tom tom to to to to to to to to to going to close on a couple weeks because the kids go back to school. It's true. I'm like super bummed on having not seen him there. I think he's hanging out a Polish hill? Wait, you think he's going to a different neighborhood? That weird, he's got to swim somewhere. That man loves the sun on his eyes. He's just got a tan somewhere. Yeah. He's just got a tan somewhere. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Starting point is 00:01:29 Fantastic Pittsburgher. Special Effects by one, Thomas Acevini. Excellent, Pittsburgh. What happened? Go ahead, I'm pointing at you. I know what you're going to say. Daughter of Chili Billy Cardilly. Yeah. This is the only movie she ever did.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Is that so? I think so, and she's not bad. No, she's not. No, she's not. There's some actress in this movie that are, M-ah! Miguel, yeah. God, with the thing with Miguel, you see the effort, you know? That alone, if you don't know Chili Billy Cardilly,
Starting point is 00:02:05 do yourself a favor. Go YouTube to YouTube some stuff. Yeah, look into Chili Billy Cardilly. I don't know, like, I didn't really know about him until I moved out to Pittsburgh. I didn't think he was anywhere but here. Yeah, I thought he was our own. He definitely is. Yeah. But I didn't know it like, you know, people people people people people people people people people people people people people people people people people. People know things. People know more things than I do. I've learned my lesson because I thought the Giuliana theory was a local band
Starting point is 00:02:26 and then everybody wrote in was like, I knew them and I'm from Iowa. And it's like, all right, man. Cool, you had college radio. I was once at a cinema wasteland that they had a day of the dead panel with a bunch of these actors on it. It was very very th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I thi, I, I, I. I'm like, to a con sometime? We've talked about it for 10 years. We've never done it. Never done it, never pulled the trigger. Because you do that every time. It's like I think it's a good idea and then I think about actually doing it and my heart just hits my asshole.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Have you ever been to a convention at all? I mean every time I run a race I have to go to the. the exp exp exp exp exp exp exp. I to to to to to to to to to to to to the the to the to the the to the the the the to to to the to the to to to to the to the the the the to to the the the the the the the the the the to the the the to the the the their. Yeah, but I mean like a like horror movie convention or a like sci-fi icon. Does it seem like somewhere, oh yeah, it does seem like somewhere you'd find me at the doorbun. You know exactly who's there. Yeah, I do. I used to go to the Chiller Con in New Jersey until it became to be to be to be the to be to be to be the to be to be the to be to the to the to the the to the to the the the the to to the the the to the to the to the to the Chiller Con in New Jersey until it became too commercial. Sorry, Great Pumpkin. Nothing but sincerity at cons as far as the eye can see. So we're doing Day at the Dead. We're not doing Night of the Living Dead. We'll never do that movie.
Starting point is 00:03:38 No, it's too good. Although we should do the Tom Savini directed remake of Night of the Living Dead. I don't know that I've ever seen that. Is that that that tha. Is tha. Is tha. Is tho tho tho tho tho tho. tho. tho. the tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. the the the thoom. thoom. tho tho tho tho. I tho. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I th. I th. I t know that I've ever seen it. Is that the one where they're eating the people in the gas station at the end? Maybe. Or is that Dawn of the Dead? It's one of the two. Hmm. I don't know. I don't know how my memory is trash. Yeah, mine too. It's really good though. though. tho. tho. tho. th. th. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. th. th. th. tho. tho. th. th. th. tho. tho. tho. tho. that. thi. the. tho. tho. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. th. the the th. the. the. the. It's. It's the. It's the. It's thea. It's the to. to. toea. the the to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the, like tough movie to remake. But he did it.
Starting point is 00:04:05 Well, he understood his friend's original vision. Yeah, yeah, and I believe his friend was there, like walking through stuff. Is that the only thing he ever directed? Or did he direct anything else? I think he directed TV. I'm not sure if he did in the movies. Yeah. Tom, get in touk. don't. So we open on chilly Lori Cardilly. Oh she's so cute. Sitting in an empty
Starting point is 00:04:28 cell by herself? Yeah it is a cell with a calendar and nothing at all to fill her cargo pockets. Because she got cargo pockets. Of course she does. And the calendar is for October of some year. Question mark year. And it's a pumpkin patch with what looks like zombies roaming around. I think so, yeah. Which I liked. The days are crossed off to indicate that it is Halloween. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:56 Anything can happen on Halloween as we've been taught. Oh please don't get that stuck in my head. You guess is just looking to a bat. Whoo, woo, woo, woo. Why have we not done that movie? I don't know if I've ever seen the worst which. I showed it to, I showed it to Lucy in the fall last year. Why do you call? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:05:17 It's okay if Uncle Allen comes over and watches this movie with us. She watched and was like, mom, I th th th that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that th. that that th. th. that I thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thoomorrow thi. thathea' thoomoomorrow, that that that that that that that that that that that that thoomomom. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that th. th. that th. that that th. that th. that th. that th. that th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I was thi. I was too. I was too. I was too. I was too. I was too. I'm too. I've. I. That she watched and was like, mom, I don't get it. I told you about the time that I was in an art museum and I got so stoked because it was just that song running on a loop on a TV. You're like, this is high art. Nailed it. A appreciation. Anyway, she wakes up because these hands Yeah, and she goes, hawa. And she's on a helicopter with some guy. With a bunch of some guys. A bunch of some guys. They all look like guys you know from other things, but you don't know what they are and you're not going to bother to look it up.
Starting point is 00:05:51 One guy's got a Mr. Bean quality to him. His eyes are so big. In order to demonstrate that I've pulled my own eyes. the large as I can get them. It's very upsetting. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's very very very very very very very very very very very big. th. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. thi. th. th. thi. thi's thi's thi's thi's tho-a. tho-a tho-a thi. thi. I's thi. I's thi. I's thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the th. the th. the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theeeeea. thea. to theea. to the the theeea. the the thee here. And your eyes aren't too bad either. Waka-Waca. And there's a guy with a, hmm, how do I describe his accent? How do I describe this man from Detroit's a Caribbean accent? Caribbush, Caribbean. Caribamakin. Well, Jamaica's part of the Caribbean, right? Or is it part of...
Starting point is 00:06:27 Jamaibian. Jamaibian is perfect. Thank you so much. This isn't why you're brought in this show. So they're flying over what's left of Florida. I mean, I feel like we're going to see that in our lifetime, so... It might already be now. I don't speak to people from Florida.
Starting point is 00:06:46 I was thinking earlier today about how I said, anywhere your father is, is Florida. Oh, my father! Did you say that in an episode? No! It's true, anywhere my father is is probably Florida. Oh, gross. So they're in some city, I'm assuming like Tampa or Fort Myers or something.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I think it was filmed in Fort Myers. Okay. Yeah. And they're looking for any survivors. So we get this really great set dressing of like palm fronds everywhere and wrecked cars. And alligators? Yeah, I love the alligators.
Starting point is 00:07:20 Fuck that. And we get the scene that's homage in 28 days later of Miguel walking around screaming hello. Yes, you're right. Yeah, you're right. And then we get like Tom Savinis like, hey how about I just come out of the fucking gates and knock your fucking dick in the dirt. With this drippy gross man? Yeah, droopy gross man with no lower jaw on his tongue hanging out, shambling towards the camera..... towards towards towards tom.. F. F. F. F. F. F. F. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. Damn. the day. the day. the day. the day. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. the day. So, t. t. So, thea. So, t. So, t. So, t. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. And, t. And, the. And, the. And, the. And, the. And, the. And, and. And, and. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the tttttttttttttttthe. the. today. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the.. With this drippy gross man? Yeah, droopy gross man with no lower jaw on his tongue hanging out, shambling towards the camera. BAM, day of the day it appears on its chest. Fucking fantastic. So good. Cuts immediately to a person in a marching band outfit? Why? Where were you? What happened? I don't know how everyone has terrible teeth? I'm? the time, huh? It was really good. So they're making all this noise and the zombies are heading towards the noise and there's so many zombies. So many
Starting point is 00:08:09 zombies. And it's like a bummer. I guess. I mean it's a zombie movie. I thought they'd be there. Yeah! This was when I was still like on board with zombie movies like this such a cloud. Have you this before oh okay okay okay see and the I like the two zombies that walk outside with the Crocogator walking in front of them and like you briefly see that the Crocogator's mouth is tapes should I only thank you thank you thanks you think Tom Savini did it himself or do you think he got his lowest ranked in turn hundred percent did himself it himself it was like a flo. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's. He's. He's like. He's like. He's like. He's. He's. He's. He's like. He's. He's like. He's. He's. He. He. He. Thank. Thank. Thank. Thank. Thank. Thank. He. Thank. He. Thank. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. I. He's. He's. He's. He's. He's. 100% did it himself. It was like a flourish. You think he has wrestled an alligator? Fuck yeah! He is using a flame thrower in his backyard occasionally. You've seen them birthday cake selfies that he takes every year? I always want to defend him for not shoveling a sidewalk because he's such an old man and then he takes a shirtless picture on his birthday and flexing and I'm like you could shovel your you you you you narrow you got pecks you got pecks yep time for pecks you got time shovel
Starting point is 00:09:09 to throw a little salt out there my dude somebody can fall down and get hurt yeah try to get that salt that's good for dogs paws put some put some fucking mittens on your dog I don know. I can't be responsible for your dog. Not just my dog, Katie, all dogs. Yeah, that's even more. We see that the guys, the one guy on the helicopter likes to drink a lot. Yeah, that's Mr. Bean. Yeah, Mr. Bean. And so they got to head back to base because there's nothing out here but there's nothing out here but zambi. They were just out there looking for survivors, I guess. They don't give them a whole lot of time. Not a whole. But because they can't, because there's so many zombies. Because the activity excites them.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Maybe because you're screaming hello at them? Yeah. Try screaming goodbye. Try whispering. Hey, sweetie. Sweet. Sweet. We get to the base, we see that they're growing weed. Yeah. God bless them. Was that real weed, do you think? No, it looks shit.
Starting point is 00:10:06 If it was weed, it's dirt. It was like 70s weed. It was like the weed that I grew up smoking. Yeah, the real, the stuff that burns hard and seeds are popping in your face, you know? I'm definitely high! No, baby, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that that that that that that that that that was that was that was, it was, it was the their their their their their their their their their, it was we was we was we was we was we was we was we was we was we was we was the, it was the, it was the, it was the, it was the, it was the w. It was. It was, it was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was, it was. It was, it was, it was. It was, it was. It was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, it was like, zombies at the fence at the edge of the where they're staying. And they're fighting about putting gas in the helicopter because everyone is fighting all of the time in this movie and it is so stressful. And so bleak. It's like... So hard to watch.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Why you want to survive? Yeah. Oh, Miguel, she says he's collapsing. Yeah. And someone says everyone's collapsing except you because you're so perfect. Was that Rickles? My favorite? Which one's Rickles?
Starting point is 00:10:52 Rickles is the toe to steal? The one who delivers every line like he's one of the three stooges? Either one, uh, no, I think that that might be steel. Rickles is the one who delivers every line, like he is a cackling Jim Henson character. Yes, gotcha, gotcha, gotcha, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it might have been Steele actually who said that she's perfect. Perfect.
Starting point is 00:11:12 We find out that Major Cooper died this morning. Yeah. And then there were 12. Yeah. I did like that they were crosses were crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses crosses. and Stars of David on others. I was like, you're being respectful, nice, nice. That's good, yeah. So they have an underground lair, there's 12 of them left. Filming Wampum, Pennsylvania. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Is that where the limestone mine thing is? I think so, yeah. I'm just saying that are underground. Of course there is. Rick Seaback, things I've pulled out of my ass. You put this tiny matchbox car in there.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Rick Seaback, what's this? Who's this? Ow! This is a joke for nobody! I'm totally honest, I fucking love a Rikseback documentary. Oh, I know, he does a great job. So likeable. Except when you run into him at Trace Brewing and try to talk to him and he's judging a wing competition in a sear sucker suit and is totally unimpressed by you.
Starting point is 00:12:18 He didn't know that I was also a celebrity. Yeah. I was like, hey, I'm Tom Savini's neighbor. I'm the co-host of a very popular horror movie podcast. Yeah. That tens of people know about. Stop, how dare you? Thousands. Tens of thousands. Oh, so they're going...
Starting point is 00:12:41 Tens of millions. Ten of Brazilians. So Lurie, Lorry Cardilly has to take care of Miguel, but Miguel doesn't want to be taken care of so he's going to go on zombie grabbing duty. And they're also fucking, we're told? I guess so, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of dick jokes in the movie.
Starting point is 00:13:00 Oh man, it's so gross. They're trying to lure the zombies in. And one guy jokes about taking his dick out, and the other guy's like, Hey, man, I knew you should take your dick out. He's like, biggest piece of meat in the cave? Oh my god. I was like, is it? These guys are bananas. It's a ter hanging. What? So they trap a zombie in this like rickety system they've constructed here.
Starting point is 00:13:32 You got like a noose on a stick. Yeah. And then you put them on a lead. That has like two barn doors keeping them in. I could have built a better gate than that. You're a great gate builder. I'll show you the gate for you. I haven't seen it. You've referenced it on the the the the the th it on th it on the th it on th it on the th. th. the th. the th. th. the the th. the the th. So the the the th. So the the th. So the the the the th. I could have built a better gate than that. You're a great gate builder. I'll show you the gate for you. I haven't seen it. You've referenced it on two episodes now though so I assume it's really good. I've done so little in my life that I'm so excited about this game. So they catch one and then a second one but Miguel drops the pole so now there's like an errant zombie. Can't let them go. Yeah, no. And then they have to shoot the one zombie, and then Steele's standing over Miguel and says some real racist shit.
Starting point is 00:14:13 He continues to say real racist shit, even though both of his toadies also appear to be ethnic and origin. One of them, what did you say? What did you say? Rickles? Maybe he's not. But another one is named Torres and he just keeps laughing at the jokes. I was like, man, that man's Hispanic. Yeah, but the jokes aren't aimed at him, it's fine. Oh, I don't know if that's how it works.
Starting point is 00:14:32 I do love that this year of George Romero is like, I want to make you hate somebody. They're racist. Oh, because there's a guy at the beginning of Dawn of the Dead. It says some racist shows that are running into a... He's a bad guy. A apartment building? Yeah. Yeah. So then Lori Cardilly saves Miguel.
Starting point is 00:14:52 She gives him a sedative. Mm-hmm. Against his will. He says, I don't need your help or anyone else's, and then hugs her and she just stabs him with the syringe. Yeah. This movie's so hard to watch. I think that's called Tough Love. I think that's called Tough Love? Wait, on which side? Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:09 Okay. He also like leaps at her at one point and she holds the paper from the syringe in front of her, like, and he's like, whoa. So, they have to take the zombies to Dr. Frankenstein. In his laboratory. In his laboratory. He's covered in dried blood, like neck to ankles. He stinks.
Starting point is 00:15:35 He has so bad. He has so bad. that much blood on him. Zombie blood, no fuck's given. We learned that he's doing some sort of experiments to try to domesticate the zombies. Yeah. We also get our first taste of Bub at this point. Oh, do we?
Starting point is 00:15:51 Well, yeah, Bob is in the background. He like comes out at her but doesn't try to attack her. Oh, I miss that. Yeah. I just saw Major Cooper's removed head, and they're like, the way they did that effect is there is a real human body. Okay, yeah, it looks like a real human body. That's a person. And then their neck is bent down into the table.
Starting point is 00:16:12 And then they put the press. Yeah, and like in a lot of pain at the end of this. Yeah. I've watched a bunch of behind the scenes on this movie because the special effects are so good. Yeah. But the brain looks like it's a skullless brain, no neck, just like brain stem and brain. Just yeah wriggling about and with diodes on it. Doing its thing. Yeah. It's like look I can make its arm move. And then all the other all the other ones are hot dogs are all up on the outside. Is this the most hot dogs we've ever seen in a movie? It's so good. I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's so good. I think so. It's so good. Come and that guy leans up and just dumps all his guts out.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Oh, ah, it's so good. Oh my God. Formulas, equations, a lot of fancy terms that don't mean a thing. Sir? I think that's what the captain says. He sucks so bad. He's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's that's thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's the that's that's that's that's that's that's the that's the the the that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. theats. that. that's. that's. that's I feel like I know that guy from a million things too. He's always like a shit head. Yeah. Yeah. He's great. He's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, theyrown. Oh, theyrown. to say, that? Do you think that would happen? Sure. Yeah, they're not worried about repopulating. They just want a murder. Yeah. He also delivers the greatest line in this movie.
Starting point is 00:17:30 What's that? I'm running this monkey farm now, Frankenstein. He has a lot of very funny lines that he delivers with all the gravitas in the world, and I love it for him. All the gravitas that cocaine can bring you. He's very wide-eyed. Very wide-eyed. So he points a gun at Steel to have steel shoot her. Yeah. And then is really going to do it, I guess? I don't know. And then Flyboy jumps up and points a gun at Rhodes. It was like, not on my watch. Yeah, and then she sits down like a toddler that really doesn't want they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And their to to to to to to to their to to to to their to to to to to their. their. to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to be to their. their. thi. to be to be to be to be to be to be to to to to th. to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. their. the th. the the th. the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. So. So, the. So, the. So, the. like a toddler that really doesn't wanna. Oh man. Dr. Frankenstein comes out of lab and he's like, yeah, we're outnumbered 400,000 to one. How'd you do that, math? How'd you do that math? He's a doctor. His real name is Dr. Logan, by the way. No, he's Dr. Frankenstein. He has one assistant that looks exactly like one of the ram jam music video? How. How. How. to? How? How? How? How? How? th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. Yeah. The Ram, which one, which one, which one, black Betty presumably? Yeah. I mean,
Starting point is 00:18:27 what other ram jam music video? Oh, um. Name another ram. I did like, I don't know if you saw me do it, but I did the, like, look around the room where I was like, picture guitar. D&D cards? Fuck no! John Carpenter's Lost Themes poster. But they, so that scientists are being really cagey about the progress. So you kind of can't blame the military guys for getting pissed about not knowing what's going on. Yeah, and as we find out, scientists are cagey for a fucking reason. Oh yeah. Did they all, they all knew that what he was doing? No, he was doing this all on his own. I don't know about that. Because they find out that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. tog. toge. toge. tog. tog. toge. tog. tog. tog. their. their. their. their. their. their. tog he was doing. No, he was doing this all on his own. I don't know about that. Because they find out that that's Major Cooper in this opening scene, not the opening scene, but this first act.
Starting point is 00:19:09 Yeah, but that's when she finds out that he's. But she's okay with it until later. You know? Yeah, yeah. She's been through somethere's more survivors in Washington and they just need to try and keep contacting Washington. Why does she think this? Because they have better bunkers there, she says at one point.
Starting point is 00:19:32 Oh right, she does say that. And Flyboy is telling her that like she's basically expendable so she better watch her back. Yeah. But the score is absolutely wild. It's like, Hallmark movie. It's like, da da da da da da da da da da da. It's like, where were Goblin not available? What is happening? Like, we're hearing that
Starting point is 00:19:58 score. He's telling her that she could be murdered at any time and then Miguel's hot dogs are on the outside. Like, what is happening? Because she's having another dream where she's sleeping and sitting up and Miguel's hot dogs fall out. All out. And then she wakes up at her Miguel breakup. Yeah, she's taking my gun and getting out of here. He's so delightfully bitchy, it's fantastic. Like, I understand he's under a lot of pressure. But like, fucking be nice the the the the the the the the the the thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. But like, fucking be nice, man.
Starting point is 00:20:25 And then, like, there's a scene of her like trying to get out of her room, but she can't because all these army guys are flipping each other around the hallway? Yeah, there's just a fight for no real reason. Just for the flyboy to come and take her away and be like, come to our little fortress of solitude. How'd they're a an RV in there? Please just chalk a block with RVs! What the hell? Okay. Because it's really a storage place where people park their RVs in boats. In Wampum.
Starting point is 00:20:52 Yeah. I think there's also, um, like a large vault of photography there because it's like a today. Because it's like a thii-a'cala' the the the the the thi, like a thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. like perfect condition for keeping documents well. Thanks Rick Seaback? Yeah. Okay. So she's having a conversation with this guy. He's the one doing the Jamaican accent. Yeah. And I'm on his side about giving up and going to an island
Starting point is 00:21:14 until he wants to like make babies with her. He's like, why don't we reproduce? Oh, Wagga Waka. You need like, I think at least 50 to have have a a the the to have a clean have a clean have to have to have to have think at least 50 to have a clean population, don't you? I mean, Adam and Eve, right? Not Adam and Steve. I literally didn't know what else to say. It's just, it's, I mean, fucking, this is all so bad. Yes, I, I, also, I would have read the story of Adam and Steve.
Starting point is 00:21:39 It sounds delightful cute. But also he's doing this thing about like you don't need to figure it out. You don't need to know what God is doing here. Almost like zombies are just as God made them. It's the end of his monologue and you're like, wait, what? This starts to get into the zombies they're just like us phase of Romero where zombies are not just unsentient beings. I guess Don of the Dead sort of did that too where they're like they're going back and doing what they know, they're going shopping and they're going to the Minerville
Starting point is 00:22:12 Mall. Zombies and celebrities. They're just like us. Yeah. No one is just like me. So yeah they're gonna start making babies. And also they're drinking glasses of brandy that looks straight up like Turner's iced tea. Yes, do you think it was? I hope so. I'm in my, the mythology of this film, it's absolutely Turner's. She gets up every day and puts on business casual. Why?
Starting point is 00:22:37 She like teases her ponytail. What are you doing? I know this is your job but like whole up. Look good, feel good, feel good. Look good, feel good. And looking better is Dr. Frankenstein, who looks way less bloody today. He's only lightly bloody. Yeah. So, so gross. Yeah, he's got some like aging makeup on to make him look a little bit older and it's like, his eyebrows are real dusty. Yeah, yeah, he looks pretty whiter than he ought to. I was like, I bet on film, they're not that dusty, but in like, HD. HG, he got a dusty brow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:10 So the doctor is teaching Bubbs to remember things. What are the three items that he gives Bub to remind him of his past? All I have is a copy of Salem's Lot written down. Toothbrush? Toothbrush. Shaving Razor. Shaving Razor. Salem's Lot. Salem's Lot. Was he a big fan of Stephen King, I guess? Well, Romero and King are boys.
Starting point is 00:23:31 No, I meant a bub. Of course. I mean, in 1985, he's not a big fan of Stephen King books. She's like, it's summertime. You read Stephen King in the summertime. That's right. She's absolutely right. What did she bring home? Do you remember? Skeleton crew and what's the one that's just like the four stories, different seasons. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:23:52 Yeah. You know, his short story collections. Oh, thanks. their short stories, really? They're great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the. the the. good. He knows that and those? Yes, and he doesn't do sex scenes for pages of like a man who's never had seen sex. There's a man who has heard sex described once through a game of telephone. So they put their belly buttons together. What?
Starting point is 00:24:18 And make to Bobby's. So Bob picks up the items and he's like sort of remembering what to do with him. He shaves his face, pulls some of his own skin off, eats it because he's a zombie. Because he's not right. And then tries to read Stephen King. Yeah. He remembers, he remembers everything that he used to. Everything? I don't know, Dr. Frankenstein.
Starting point is 00:24:41 And Road shows up and he is pissed. Yeah. he's here to break up the party. Yeah. And then, uh, uh, he gives Bub's a, Bubba phone. Say hello, Aunt Alicia? What is that happening here? Who the fuck is Aunt Alicia? I have no idea.
Starting point is 00:24:58 Well, I think that's like a sort of like, uh, uh, foreshadowing of one we hear the recording of him later and he sounds like he's out of his fucking mind. When he's just blabbing one of the quarter. Right, you might be right about that. Say hello to your Aunt Alicia. Yeah. And then I thought, oh my god, this is going to be like a Johnny 5 is a live kind of thing where he's not like the other zombies and you can't disassemble him. God, I watched that movie so much as a child.
Starting point is 00:25:26 Why? Why did I like it? Favorite East Asian actor? Fisher-Stefans. I think about him saying, did you stick your tongue down her throat way more than I probably should. In like a shitty Indian accent? Oh, no. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:25:46 God help us all. Bob, like, picks up the phone, and then he sees Captain Rhodes, and he salutes him. Yes, so they give him a gun. Don't do the bullets out. He points the gun at Rhodes and pulls the fucking trigger. Yes. And Rode says, what the fuck is wrong with you, people. They's their th, and you want th, and you th, and you want th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, to to to to to to to th, to to to to to to th, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. thi, thi, thi, the thi, thi, thi. thi. thea. thea. thea. thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Oh, the. Yes! And Rhodes says, what the fuck is wrong with you people? They're dead. They're fucking dead and you want them to do tricks? And I was like,
Starting point is 00:26:07 Rhodes, I hate to be on your side right now, but I am! And we learned that Laurie Cardilly is trying to fix the zombie. She wants to figure out how to reverse it. And the doctor was like, what if we made them things? What if they became things? What if they would bend to our will? Yeah. Yikes. Do you think that might go tits up? Because bad news, it do. It do. And as soon as it does, in this scene, Miguel gets bit. Yeah. Yeah, right on his arm. And then we get another homage that would from 28 days later. Tell me that? The machetetetetetetetet. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they're they're they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's. they's. they's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. to. to. th. th. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 28 days later. Tell me that. The machetying off of the arm. She does it with such conviction. Yeah. You'd have to be really sure. I would throw the word a plum around the way she's doing it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:53 Yeah. But that's after like steel has to kill his friend. Right he mercy kills the guy but he comes back anyway doesn't? Oh no. That's right. Yeah yeah. Yeah. I just gave like. the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. the right that's right yeah yeah I just gave you like a oh he does like a mercy kill gunshot to this guy's head but you hear the gunshot like echo like poo poo poo poo it's very fucking silly so the machete seen chopped off his arm and they think that they called to it before the zombiness got to him. Yeah, she builds a quick torch out of her shirt and a well-placed barrel of Guzzoline.
Starting point is 00:27:32 Guzzoline. Guzzoline. And a machine, and a zip later perhaps. Yeah. So this wakes him up. Getting his arm cut off doesn't wake up. but getting caught her eyes does. Sure. Like you do. I mean, one's just a quick hack and the other one is a searing pain. Maybe that's why I wake him. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:27:50 I don't know. And then the army men are coming and they want to shoot Miguel. But then there's all this like standoff with other guns. Right, because they're sure they got it before the got in. And how do they think that? Why do they think that? Because she's fucking him. Because she's fucking him. She wasn't fucking him, she wouldn't care.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Yeah. This is where Rhodes says, you're on my shit list. I loved for him. Flyboy! Yeah. She has a great in shock face. She's very good at that. Yeah, but she's wandering around with a torch while she's doing it. You're like, somebody to get away from her. Then I wrote, I'm not gonna complain about my job anymore.
Starting point is 00:28:31 No? No, because look at this job. This job sucks. You think she got hired for this job or just landed it? I think she got hired. Oh, weird. I think she's on a contract. So she could quit. But where would she go? That's what she keeps saying. Is there a zombie Mickey D's you could work at? I don't think so. Mickey Z's? Mickey Z's? Don't look at me like laugh now. Pause for laughter.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Hilarity. Hollarity. Oh man, so Sarah's got to go get supplies after she stops being in shock because she's gonna have to take care of Miguel now that he's definitely not gonna turn into a zombie. No, why would he turn into a zombie? He just got bit by a zombie. So her and Mr. Bean go to, Billy, I believe his name is.
Starting point is 00:29:20 He is a line where he's like, we're like, we's like, we's like, we's like, we's like, we's like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're like, we're relief. I was like, that's good George Romero. I appreciate that. So they go to, and he finds the tape recorder and starts playing the tape of Dr. Logan being fucking banana times. It is wild. He's just gibberishing all over the place. Which we, I was like, what is happening? Like I didn't realize that he was insane. Yeah. I don't know. That didn't make me realize he was insane. How about the being covered in blood part of his life? I was like, well, he's a hard worker.
Starting point is 00:29:49 He's not a laundry there, you know? It's true. Yeah. It's true. And this is where they find the head of the soldier that steel shot with electrodes stuck in and going the gun I I insane? Because he's bonkers, but at the times. Bob also doesn't notice that his friend here, Dr. Frankenstein, has always stained with the blood of his brethren. I feel like Bub should notice. And he does get sad earlier when one of the zombies killed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:17 And then he puts headphones on him and plays Ode to joy. Such a banger. Bub loves it. Big Die Hard fan. Yeah. Technically, Die Hard wouldn't be out for another year. I actually, myself, I'm so sorry. No, I like it when you do it to you instead of me. I hate it when I do it to you.
Starting point is 00:30:42 It's fine. I'm wrong a lot. He's, we see that Bub is getting a reward. Yeah, what's the reward? It's the military guy. It's people's gups. The gory effects are just so fucking spectacular. So good. He's just a man in his medium of yucky yucky effects.
Starting point is 00:31:04 And another thing is like a lot of the stuff that's like the intestines is pig intestines. And a lot of them are just like kept in buckets on the set not refrigerated. Tom. Yeah. Yeah. So there's like scenes later where people are biting into... Tepid. Fetid. Fetid. Yeah, yeah. Tepid. Yeah, yeah. Great. So Road shows up while he's getting the meat and sees his dead friend in the locker and the
Starting point is 00:31:31 in the freezer or whatever. And he's not stoked about it. No. And he kills Dr. Frankenstein. He shot him a lot. Yeah. I thoooo. . running low on ammo, he shoots him a lot. A lot of shootings. And then he starts yelling at the
Starting point is 00:31:45 military guys to take all their guns. These are Flyboy, Mr. Bean, and Sarah. And I think the other Dr. Ramjam. Dr. Ramjam. Dr. Dr. Dr. the. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Ramja. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. But. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. the. the. th. they. they. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. they. Dr. Dr. they. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. theried to bluff the captain one too many times. He was gonna lose it at some point. Yeah. Like I don't want to be on his side, but he's not wrong. He's just an, it's the, it's the, it's the delivery. It's the big Lebowski problem. I don't know what that means. One of the characters keeps saying, I'm not wrong, and Labowski says you're not wrong, you're just an asshole.
Starting point is 00:32:26 And so this guy's not wrong, but he is an asshole. All right, good, got it. I'm surprised you have not had men explained the big Lebowski to you for most of your life. You think men haven't explained the big Lebowski to me? Or that I tune out when men are explaining the big louskowski tooosky tooosky tooosky tooes. What did you say? Oh, big Lebowski. That's so cool. Wait, no, it's so funny. No, I know it's so funny.
Starting point is 00:32:49 I know, oh my God. Oh, it's an update of the cliches of film noir, you don't say. Oh, fascinating. Thank you for telling me about that. I'm in the TV edit, this is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps. Oh. Ha ha ha ha ha. I don't know what any of it means. Oh. So, uh, uh...
Starting point is 00:33:11 The captain has lost his shit. Yeah. He's gonna feed Sarah and the guy. Billy. to the zombies. Yeah. Through the rickety gate that Alan built. Oh, rety Gate over here. Old Ricky Gate. And he is, he's just, every line he delivers is done with such intensity. He's like, I make the deals around here. And you're like, hell yeah, you do.
Starting point is 00:33:35 Steel, kick him around a little bit. Steel, he's got a John Belushi quality to him, or maybe a Jim Balooche quality. Yeah. A Balooshy quality. A balushy. He's bulushish. He's got a boulush. He's got a balus!
Starting point is 00:33:55 So they get, while they're feeding Billy and Sarah to the zombies, they hear the sound of the elevator coming down. And it's because Miguel has gotten onto the elevator and he's bringing himself up to give to the zombies, so let invite them back down to kill everybody. Right, he's gonna unlock the gate because he's a zombie? Yeah, or he's ready for this all to be done. Which is like, Miguel, you don't get to make that decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the decision the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to the the to the to be done. Hmm. Which is like, Miguel, you don't have to make this decision for everyone.
Starting point is 00:34:25 Miguel, you don't get to make that decision for everyone. Yes, they decided to cut off your arm, fair, but. That was in your best interest. Spuckin' ex-girlfriend, cut off my arm, I'm killing everybody. Stupid bitch, I broke up with her yesterday. She came over and cut off all the stuff back that she bought for me. She didn't give me my t-shirt. The zombies are really grabby. They're really grabbing.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Really grabbing. I was wondering how you felt about these zombies because there's a lot of blue. A lot of blue. I thought, my god, spookies. What were you doing? Blue zombies. Guess when you do a lot of zombies, you have to make them blue. Yeah. You have no choice. It's a good way to differentiate the living from the dead. Not a lot of blue, except for people who take the zinc or silver supplements and eventually
Starting point is 00:35:11 turn themselves blue. Yeah, colloidal silver. Don't do that. No, there was a guy that used to talk to him like it, he wasn't great to the gills. What have you done to yourself? Sir, we're having a normal conversation. Hello, sir, you want a big, beagle. Well, Papa Smurf, what did you want this morning?
Starting point is 00:35:38 He was unfriendly, too. You can't be blue and unfriendly. I know, you gotta pick one or the other. I guess he was grouchy smurf. I guess so. He was very gray. Maybe he was a Romero zombie. Yeah. So yeah, the, the, Billy and Sarah are running through this cave system.
Starting point is 00:36:01 They're being chased by zombies. They've lost their guns, so they're just using pieces of wood to knock them out and a shovel. Because there's a fucking amazing scene where Billy chops a zombie's head in half of the shovel. Yes, in its mouth. So good. And then you see the like upside down half head? With the eyes flipping back and forth? Fantastic. And I think they did that with a shovel that was just cut out so it could fit over a person's mouth. Yeah. It's very good. So good. So smart.
Starting point is 00:36:29 Yeah. I think I love the practical effects and specifically Savini's practical effects because I feel like they're just, they're like problem solving. Yeah, it really is practical. Yeah, yeah, it's really nice. And like, what cool shit can we do on the limited budget that we have and like with just our smarts and some fucking blood. Yeah, a lot of fucking blood. And some pig intestines apparently.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Yeah. Wow. So they're trapped because there's a cave in. Is there? Yeah. I don't remember that. And then John is now on the move. Flyboy is coming to get them, and Miguel brings all the zombies down after they bite his neck apart. Because he's sad.
Starting point is 00:37:10 Yeah, he's sad boy. He wants to kill everybody. As sad boys do. We're the worst. They don't generally act on it. No, we're usually too sad. Maybe he went too sad. He's like a school shooter. That's not fucking, I I I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, I's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiii. thii. thiiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, too sad. He's like a school shooter. That's not fucking funny.
Starting point is 00:37:26 That is not fucking funny, Alan. No, leave it in. The point is I know it's not funny. Yeah. Yeah. So now the zombies are downstairs and every one of them is wearing a different outfit, which I love the fact that there's no zombie groups. No, no continuity between the zombies all getting there together, yeah. It's like, uh, one guy dressed like, Luigi the Pizza Maker, one guy dressed like,
Starting point is 00:37:51 he's in the high school band. It's like, um, jobs, you know, they were like, let's get some jobs in here. This guy. Or like Sims or something. Yeah, exactly. Oh man. So, at this point, Bubbs sees Dr. Frankenstein dead and gets her all like bent out of shape. He's pretty bent out of shape about it. He's free now. Miguel has freed him, I think. No, he freed himself by figuring out how to pull the pin on his chain.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Oh, because he knew everything he used to know. And then he brings the chain to the doctor and be like, hey look what I did. Oh man, you're dead dead. Yeah. And now I'm sad. So now I'm going to pick up a gun. He, yeah, knocks out the captain and takes his guns, right? Yeah. Or no, they'd taken the guns early or somebody else's guns. Oh right, because they leave them? You're low on ammunition. We're done with these guns. I don't know about that. That's a wrap on these guns. Yeah. But Bob gets a gun. The captain wakes up and does not have his guns. No. But at least they left him as bandelier. He could throw bullets of people. Yeah, throw them real hard. So, at this point Torres gets the top of his head ripped off off. Very nice. to. to to their. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. So. Very nice scene. Love it. It's so gory. So gross.
Starting point is 00:39:07 Riggles gets caught and killed. Yep. They rip his eyelids off. This is so stretchy. Yeah. I love a stretchy effect. Like a stretchy skin effect. I find it so repulsive and so delightful.
Starting point is 00:39:21 It's so satisfying. So good. When you've got the like a good thethe sunburn you get like a good run of skin coming off. Yeah blister on the bottom of your foot that you just peel. Oh come on now. God. Can I get the whole foot? My thing. Yeah man. Oh god I especially being a kid when you would get a a blister which is, I need to dig into that and see what's going on in there. Oh, why is it full of that? Gross. Am I full of that? Is how I'm the inside of my body is? Just water. Wooder. It made me sad that Billy drops his flask and I was like, that's so fucking cool. It's sad that he doesn't have boo that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thus. thus. thus. thus. thoes. thoes. thoes. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to to to to to to to th to to to to to thi. to thi. thi. thi. He like hits it with a shovel and then fronts at it and I was like that's so fucking cool. He's pissed that he doesn't have booze. Yeah. Oh yeah, what a badass.
Starting point is 00:40:10 This one zombie looks like Tony Soprano. I didn't watch that show but I know what he looks like. RIP James Gun Dolfini. Oh yeah, yeah, I died of like too much cocaine I think.. Yeah. Yeah, that happens to the best of us. Too much older man, still indulging. Yeah. You gotta give up the coke at some point, guys. We're not all lemmy. We all can't do it forever. Or just go out on top.
Starting point is 00:40:34 No, guys don't I have to die of cocaine. Who am I talking to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to??? to to to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to to to to to to to to. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. their. their. their. the the the too. too. too. to. too. to. tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooan. too. too. too should really take their advice on cocaine. I have been doing too much booger sugar. I have been doing too much booger sugar. See, it sounds fun though, if you say booger sugar. Yeah, it does. So, um, Steele gets away from all the zombies until he sees Bub and he starts. And then he starts taunting Bubb and then he's taunting Bub, other zombies come up and rip him apart. Which is great because he fucking sucks. And then he kills himself. Yeah. So he gets some-
Starting point is 00:41:07 Which is a bit of a bummer because I feel like you don't get, I feel like he doesn't like get his, what's coming to him. Or is the ultimate like insult that he had to kill himself? I don't know, it's true. But at this point we've also seen someone put their dog tags in their mouth, weren't you just telling me that? And I didn't believe you? Well, I believe you now. Oh, thank you. From this documentary, this Rixieback documentary that we watched about.
Starting point is 00:41:31 But he's like who's going to identify him later? our super low rate of speed. And we see a zombie with a football helmet on and I thought, fuck, you are invincible. It's true. Like no one can get to you. Yeah. Although that CTE's going to take him out. Oh yeah, for sure. So now Bubbs and Rhodes are having a standoff.
Starting point is 00:42:03 Yes. And Rhodes runs from Bubbs because he's big time scared of him? Yes. Because he's calling him a puss-fuck over and over. Puss-fuck. Yeah, mm-hmm. This Bub keeps shooting him, too. He's real good at gunstuff.
Starting point is 00:42:15 Yeah, he's better than the military guys with guns. off. Pull his head off and rip out his intestines and start eating him and this is the scene where there's like the yucky pig intestines that he bloops. Because you could see the one zombie put it in her mouth and they go, oh god. I made a mistake. Choke on it. So great. I just wrote thank you Thomas Savinii. Joke on him. So our heroes get to the chopper. Oh also they take what appears to be a a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thi the thi the thi the thi the thi thi. the the thi. thi. the thi. thi. the thick thi. thi. thi. thick thick. thick. they. they. they. they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. tuck. tuck. took. took. took. took. took. took. took. took. to. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. too. our heroes get to the chopper. Oh, also they take what appears to be a frozen turkey out of his body. I don't know if that's part of my body too, but I really hope not. As a Christmas miracle, we are all filled with one frozen turkey.
Starting point is 00:42:58 A bunch of hot dogs and a frozen turkey. You could feed a family nicely on that. See, we all think think think think think think think th th thinks thinks thinks th th thinks th thinks thinks thinks thinks thinks thinks thinks thi that that that that that that that that that, we all think the cannibals are eating people. They're just eating the hot dogs and frozen turkey. Inside the people. At this point I'm probably just shock a block with snowballs and Twinkies. I feel like Tom Savinie was working through some shit in his life when he was making this movie. Yeah. Well it's all like the trauma from being a photographer in Vietnam, right? Yeah. It's all the shit he's all in Nom. Yeah. So I made him come back and be like, you know what I can do?
Starting point is 00:43:28 But also like his kid was probably born this year, you know, like she's almost my age. Come on, Tom. At least he didn't blow his own head off in this movie, like he's done another movie. So our heroes get to the chopper, but the chopper's not full of fuel. She told him not to put gas in it. But it's cool because that was just a dream because she's on the beach now. Right. She gets grabbed by a zombie in the helicopter then wakes up on an island. Like, they're just going to have babies. I guess.
Starting point is 00:43:56 And there's like fucking crazy uplifting music playing. This is going to be the weirdest season of my two dads. Holy shit. She's keeping a new calendar. It's November like 15th now. Yeah, they've been there for like two weeks, I guess. They're fishing and having a nice time. Maybe they're just going to die of old age on the island. Maybe? We're starvation.
Starting point is 00:44:23 I don't see no food. They were fishing. That's true. You you you they they they they th th th thi. You thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. they're thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi thi thi thi thi thi thi toeeeea toea. toea. toea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thi's is thi's. That's true. You can only live on fish for so long. I think you live on fish for a pretty long time. Really? Yeah, they got vitamins. As long as you don't get scurvy, I think you'll be okay. It's true. And they've probably got some grasses there they can eat to a little citrus. Graces, some sort of citrus perhaps. Naturally. naturally occurring citrus. Why are we gaming out the rest of their lives? The less you know. The less you know. Honestly, that's a t-shirt I should have. The less you know.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Where will fambulence? The less you know. Where's Justin been with all our great ideas lately? Is he working on his real job? Yeah, he's doing real jobs. Katie. Alan. I have a question for you.
Starting point is 00:45:06 What? Tell me all your thoughts on Day of the Dead. I found it very disgusting. Yeah. But otherwise forgettable. Oh, really? Yeah, I mean, I just, I feel like we described it really quickly because not a lot happens. I feel like it's just I've seen so
Starting point is 00:45:25 many variations on this theme that it's just and maybe this was one of the first I don't know it was 1985. Yeah. But I'm gonna give it six copies of Salem's lot all doggier in different places. Perfect, perfect. What about you? Have you ever read Salem's love? That's a good time. Um, were you not a big king-a-head when you were kid? Really? No.
Starting point is 00:45:53 You probably reading like roll books? Yeah. Well, they're real books. I know, but like real books. Reading is reading. I heard today that Utah is banning Judy Bloom books. With the ones that tell you about how to handle it when you get your fucking period? Why would we need children to know that?
Starting point is 00:46:10 I hate it. Leave Judy Bloom alone. I do remember reading the one that was for boys for, are you there, God? It's me, Margaret. There was like a boys one where he kept getting boners. and being like, I don't understand what's happening at all here. Are you there, Boing? It's me, Jimmy. Why don't you rate this movie? I'm gonna give this movie an 8.5. Wow, really?
Starting point is 00:46:32 I really like it. But it's also that sweet spot of zombie movies for me. And the mid-1980s, which is your favorite time that's ever existed. It's fun, it's really bright. It's like, it's a a a that's really, it's really, it's really, it's really, it's really, it's really, it's really, it's really, it's a thi and it's really a thi. thi. thi, it's a thi, it's a thi, it's a thi, it's a thi, it's a thi, it's a thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toeeei. toei. toei. toei. thei. thi. thi. thi. a lot of these movies aren't? Yeah, that's true. Especially if we're happening almost entirely underground. Yeah. And it's really like, you can see something like, what I was saying, that like 28 Days Later references this, so many movies reference these first three Romero zombie movies.
Starting point is 00:47:01 The first of their kind, yeah. Yeah. And then the Italians just went bananas and did so many take-offs on this. Someone was mentioned that we need to do Nightmare City at some point. We definitely need to do that because that's a zombie movie where every time a zombie attacks a woman her boot falls out. What? Who directed this? I don't know? Oh man I I... I'll look it up while you continue your rating. But yeah, I think it's eight's, eight and a half is solid for this. It's like... I think that's generous.
Starting point is 00:47:30 I think it's like, you know, the first one is perfect. The first one is so good. Sure, that's why I can never talk about it. for me. Umberto Lenzzi. Yeah. You like Umberto Lenzie? Yeah, he's a real tiddy-touching zombie kind of guy. Wait, is the movie also called Incubo? It might be. Great. Okay, put it on the list. Yeah, that's it. Great. Great. Great movie. Go to try and find movie. I mean, go see what you will. I mean, go see it for the effects alone. Yeah, the th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Starting point is 00:48:28 I see you. I see you too. Thank you. Love you. And, uh, we've briefly mentioned it, but we recently got a message from a 17 year old. He's been listening for six years. Boggled. I, I, I, uh, same day we were recording thethat we recorded last episode, but it's still boggling my mind. Yes. So John, thank you so much for that message. It was beautiful. Do not expect me to remember anything in fashion. I'm looking up. Other than you kept referring to that one guy's grimace.
Starting point is 00:50:00 Because you look like a fucking McDonald land character without warning. He might have been now that you're saying it. David Caruso. You win the memory award today by the way. Thank you. Yeah gold star. Thank you. So come back for our second David Caruso movie, session nine. Session nine. Session nine.
