Starting point is 00:00:01 Hey, fucking Katie, man. What is this? This is obsession has rocked my world. Really? Yeah. I can't wait to talk to you about it. It's happening right now. Okay, I don't even have to.
Starting point is 00:00:31 No waiting. No waiting included. All right. So this was your first time watching. Wow, we got right the fuck into this. Yeah. Yeah. We're not even going to fuck around a little bit?
Starting point is 00:00:41 Let's fuck around and find out. Okay. Sorry about losing power and not being able to record last. week. Sorry about losing power, says a man who lost power during a storm. Who, who are you, how are you responsible for this? Oh, I should have been more of a man. I could have kept the power going.
Starting point is 00:00:57 You should have been holding the broken parts of the wire one in each hand as we recorded. Oh, no, you were just watching it. Yeah, I hadn't even watched it yet. Yeah. So, yeah. Everyone's really mad at you. I know, I know.
Starting point is 00:01:12 Think about that in the middle of night. I know. Sorry I went out of town. We couldn't report over the weekend. I had to celebrate labor. Never apologized for celebrating Labor Day. The laborist of laborists. The laborists.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Okay, so we're back. We're watching Obsession. This is my third time watching it. Sweet, Christ Almighty. Yes, I saw it once in the theater on a date and he had a very emotional reaction to it. As well, he should. Yeah. Every man should have a very emotional reaction to this move.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Yeah. I watched it on vacation with Vicky, who had a less emotional reaction, but more kept being like, oh, what is that? And then I wasn't going to- That's a very Vicky reaction. It's a very Vicky reaction. I wasn't going to watch it again for this podcast because I thought Jesus twice as enough. And then I saw that we got a two-star review on Apple podcast that criticized me not watching the movies. And I was like, fuck it. I will watch it again. We sure did. Two stars. You got nothing? I watch it when I want to. Dog? Dog. You got nothing fucking better to do than to leave a two-star review on a podcast. Look, they're letting others know that I'm not going to watch these movies all the way through. There are fucking unhoused people who need to be fed.
Starting point is 00:02:27 There are babies who need a suckler in this world. But what if someone wants to leave us a five-star review? Fine. Pop on and do it. Hop on to MapQuest. or whatever website you used to leave reviews. So this is my third round. And I have to say, I think this is enough.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Yeah, I have seen this one and a half-ish times because they fell asleep the first time I watched it. Yeah, it's a very boring movie. And I never, ever want to watch it again. Really? Just like out of the gates. And that is not a condemnation of the movie. No.
Starting point is 00:03:05 It might actually be... That's why I thought about backrooms. I never want to watch it again. Okay. But not a condemnation. So we will not be doing backrooms on this podcast. I will. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:13 We're doing another movie called Bathrooms. Bathrooms. Like it. But if we do backrooms... It's a port-a-potty at a NASCAR race. If we do backrooms, I get to say Chewetail Edgiafor. You have been practicing that one. I love saying his name.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Say what we're saying? Say it all right. Just for that, we can do it. Not for it. Give me a few weeks. Give me a few weeks. I don't want to see it because I'm just like, what is Gen Z scared of?
Starting point is 00:03:38 I'm just an old man who doesn't want to like see things. Isn't this movie also made by a Gen Z? year? Yeah, yeah, he's like 26. Yeah, so where are you on that? Or we'll get to it in the ratings. Yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure. Okay, I have to, also one thing before we get into the film itself. Bloom House. Yes, the Bloom House reminded me. You sent me a text message yesterday evening with a photo of a snack and I replied in all caps, what the fuck is that? And you just didn't reply. So I need you to tell me about what this is. This is the Cheetos Bloomhouse Fear the Flavor of Cheetos.
Starting point is 00:04:15 Can I tell you what the flavor is? Fearful. It's cinnamon? What? No, it's not. And unbelievably hot spicy. Really? Where did you get these?
Starting point is 00:04:27 They just showed up at gaming. My gaming group, one of our things that we do is like, let's bring their most ridiculous snacks to each other. I cannot believe you didn't put some in a baggie for me. I would not subject you to this because they were straight up disgusting. Really? Yeah, they were bad. Like, I ate one and halfway through it.
Starting point is 00:04:45 I was like, if I was the type of person who threw food away, I would not finish the other half of this Cheeto. Cheetos are not that substantial. Yeah. I mean, it was a cheesy poof. It was a, it wasn't of like, cheese curl. Yes. Okay. But a Cheetos brand cheese curl.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Got it. That is affiliated with, I thought your what the fuck was just a general, what has this world come to. Oh, no. And I had no response to that. All the details. For your scary appetite. I'm so sorry.
Starting point is 00:05:15 I'm so sorry that I'm not going to call you out for not answering my text. I'm calling you in. All right. Let's get into this movie. Bloomhouse. Bloomhouse. Everything. Everything is Bloomhouse.
Starting point is 00:05:27 So we start off with a young man, a handsome young man. Yeah. One Michael Johnston. Mm-hmm. It feels like you come up with a stage name, but that's just me. A.k.a. Barron, aka. Bear. Right. Who is, I don't like that Wikipedia describes him as a shy music store employee,
Starting point is 00:05:48 because that does not encapsulate who this man is. Yeah, he's a bit more complicated than that. I don't know. That lets him off, and I don't like that at all. No, he should not, yeah, no. So he's giving a monologue about how much he likes a woman. He sounds, might you say, obsessed. you might say obsessed and that obsession is with himself.
Starting point is 00:06:12 How she makes him feel. How she makes him feel. That's all men care about. It's true. I'm not arguing with you. I think this is what upsets me about this movie. Too real. It's that it really,
Starting point is 00:06:28 really, really, really hits home. Yeah. I watched multiple YouTube reviews of this film that were like three hours plus long. Really? Is that how long this episode is going to be? Because I was hoping to catch the NFL kickoff and or the Republican midterm conventions tonight. Also, to both.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Ew. Yeah, I know. I don't really like myself a lot. When did you become football person? Well, it's because of fantasy football. It's back, baby. Oh, it's back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:58 I have bones to pick this year. Well, we'll get you out of here. No, I would recommend people to check out a review that was done by Jesse Jenner. on YouTube where they went very hard on this movie and a movie called Companion and Ex Machina.
Starting point is 00:07:19 And talked about how all of these movies are kind of a retelling of the Pygmalion story of like creating your own like perfect woman who has no personality and is only there to serve you. Also on the plot of possession by with Sam Neal and that lady that you love. Isabel Anjani.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Isabel Anjani, another name you love to say. Yes. Possession. Yeah. Danzig. I've been talking and thinking a lot about Danzig lately. It's strange. No, I love it.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Yeah, I think it's because the weather's getting cooler. Sure. It's a Danzigian time of year. It's going to be Danzig season before you know it. Also, do yourselves a favor and do a search for Danzig, which is a cartoon that someone did that is Ziggy as Danzig. I love that. Ziggy's the saddest little motherfucker on the planet.
Starting point is 00:08:08 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So is that little cat litter carry motherfucker. So he's telling this woman how much he cares for her. And then we kind of pull back and realize that he's telling a server at a restaurant who is not actually affiliated with him and his best friend, Ian, or friend. Maybe not best friend. This guy might not have best friends. I don't understand the character of Ian at all.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Why does he sometimes dress like a middle-aged golf dad? He's like 15. One point he's wearing a windbreaker shirt. Are kids wearing windbreaker shirts? I got a new windbreaker in the mail the other day. Yeah, you're 52, my dude. You are a middle-aged non-golf not dad. It does say ether rich on it, though.
Starting point is 00:08:50 It does not. You got a windbreaker that says ether rich. My friend said it to me because he ordered a size too big for himself, so he sent me the size too big one. Incredible. I can't even believe we came to this naturally. I look like if an anarchist JV. soccer team had a coach, I would be him.
Starting point is 00:09:10 That sounds like an incredible job. So this guy, Ian, is trying to explain to bear how to pick up Nikki. Right. He says that he needs to invite romance essentially by negging her. Sure, 100%. I don't think that really works. But I also think that, as we'll learn later on in the movie, Ian has alternative motives for this. Sure, I guess so.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Yeah. Yeah. He tells him to call her Freaky Nicky, which is a nickname that we understand that she hates. Yeah. Who the fuck wouldn't hate that? No, I don't. If I started calling you Freaky Katie, you would be like, can you not? It sounds like they all went to high school together, and that was a high school nickname, which
Starting point is 00:09:53 why that sounds terrible. Sure. Yeah, she's basically the hot dog girl from high school. The hot dog girl. Yeah, the hot dog girl. The girl that the rumor goes around high school that she was pleasuring herself. with a frozen hot dog and then it broke off inside of her. You did not have that one of those?
Starting point is 00:10:11 No. Oh, she had to go to the emergency room to get it removed. I'm sorry, you could get half a hot dog out of your pussy. They're not that, they don't go that far. What are you talking about? Listen. Listen, no wait, let me tell you something. I'm sorry, pussy expert is what they call you, Dr. Pussy over here.
Starting point is 00:10:31 This is from 40 years ago, no bullshit. Yeah. No cap, as they say. Is that what that means? I don't know. I was hanging out with friend of the podcast, Sarah, this weekend. And she was, like, asking me what bodied meant. And I was like, I think it meant you killed it.
Starting point is 00:10:51 I think you meant you did a really good job. You bodied something. Okay. And it's basically like you knocked something out of the park. Oh, fuck yeah. You bodied it. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:01 But it was very funny that, like, two 50-year-old people were like, what is body to me? What is bodied? Well, I haven't heard about it on Ira Glass's program yet. Science Friday has not gotten into Baudy, the etymology of Bauding. We learn that they go to trivia, but Nikki always invites the other co-workers, which means she does not want to be alone with this man. Which he should take as a hint, but does not. He is nonstop not understanding social cues. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:33 Do you think he's got a touch of the tism? No, I think he's just. just a dude. Okay. Yeah. We're not great. And especially when we're young, we're really not great. Like, non-fully formed dudes, bad.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Bad, bad looks. Not bad. Subhuman, frankly. Sorry for men under the age of 27. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, in my case, men under the age of 40. I mean, it took me a long time.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Men my age are jaded and cynical and awful. That's why you won't date them and you only date 20-year-olds. I'm only dating high school students. My child bride. Who was watching something recently that had a woman who was a former paramour of Leonardo Caprio. She's one of the ones that he dump when she turns 25. Yeah, well, that's a bit too. And I was like looking at pictures of the two of them together and I was like, you look like a father and daughter.
Starting point is 00:12:34 Yeah, that's your dad. Yeah, because he's my age, if not a little bit older. I would think around your age, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So a woman who is like currently 25? Yeah, that's your perfect match. You know what, you know what that? No!
Starting point is 00:12:51 Why, she's probably got a lot of insight into life and how things work. Oh man, I went out on one hinge day with a dude who was like 30 and he was trying to explain to me how I needed to like look at the positive side of life. and I was like, I will glass you. I have to go home now. I wish. My greatest wish is that I be allowed to go on dates with you and just like be in the background and then slowly just like loudly squeak a chair
Starting point is 00:13:22 into this frame and be like, nah. You just hit like the buzzer from the game taboo that you've been holding this whole time. While making eye contact with the day. dude just be like, mm-mm, mm-mm, her grandfather says no.
Starting point is 00:13:39 You're 10 years older than me. Okay, so at this point, though, we're not sure if Bear is, like, sweet and shy and misreading and, like, not able to read a situation,
Starting point is 00:13:49 or if he's, like, wretched. I mean, bear is what I call my cat. My cat is bear to me. Okay. So it's just like,
Starting point is 00:13:58 it's an adorable little nickname for an adorable little boy. Oh, not something to be taken seriously. Exactly. he's a little bear he's a little bear oh little bear oh that's very infantilizing isn't it yeah yeah yeah and that's like kind of where he is yeah like everyone's just like oh him he doesn't get it yeah yeah yeah so ian tells him to neg nicky and then we get a hard cut to him going home yeah and what is he discovered in his home his
Starting point is 00:14:24 his dead cat sandy and what is his reaction to find in the dead cat he cleans it up and sobs and puts it in a trash bag. Oh, yeah. Well, if you live in the, I guess they don't live in the city, do they? No. No. I've never found a pet dead. I've always had to euthanize.
Starting point is 00:14:44 I found a cat dead. I do have two tattoos for that cat. Iqabod? Yeah. Oh, he was a sweet boy. He was a sweet boy. I came home and found him dead, and I definitely, until I could take him to be cremated,
Starting point is 00:14:56 had him resting on towels inside of like a nice, like a nice, like a sweet boy. apartment, so he was warm and safe. I would not put my fucking cat in a trash bag. I would also not say, what did you do? Because I left pills out that this cat got into. How does a cat get into pills? Because he didn't close the lid. Because he's been taking his grandmother's medications off label.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Uh-huh. And just left them laying around so the cat was able to access. Does not strike me as an oxy guy. Okay. This is the thing. This is the thing. Okay. He's an irresponsible.
Starting point is 00:15:30 fucking pet owner. Then we see him sobbing, but he's not sobbing about the cat. He says, why can't she just? Exactly. Yeah, because he sucks.
Starting point is 00:15:38 And back to when I came home and found my cat dead, I almost broke the floor when I found him because I was punching it so hard because I was so sad. He was an old boy. I was 13.
Starting point is 00:15:49 Oh, I thought he was an old boy. No, no, no, no. Let's not talk about this. Let's not get into this. But I'm just saying, I did not immediately turn around and go, why doesn't she like me? I know.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Yeah. He just like, he's, he's so self-centered. Yeah. And I'm just harping on this because there are people out there that watch this movie and go, I think he might be the victim. It's really shame of what happened to him. He might be the victim of this situation. I don't like that Nikki is like walking around at Fright Nights or whatever, Universal Studios.
Starting point is 00:16:26 She's like, she's a horror movie costume now, like a villain costume. Really? Yeah. Oh, that's the fucking bar. Yeah, like haunted house, you know, like, Michael Myers. Yeah. Like, haunted thing.
Starting point is 00:16:36 I would love to wear that sweater he's got on. Oh, yeah. His sweater game is. So, yes, he cleans up the cat. He, uh, and he cries and then he's creeping on this girl's Instagram. Right. And then she calls. Yes, and then she calls.
Starting point is 00:16:55 To tell him, she just, I guess to get him to come to trivia. Yeah, because she needs his brain. And then she tells him that she had something to say, to tell him. And he thinks it's going to be that she likes Sam. Yeah. But no, it's that she's quitting the job at the music store. She says, we're kind of running out of time here, Bear. Because his friend had said to him that he has nothing but time,
Starting point is 00:17:18 which means that she doesn't want to talk to you after she isn't your coworker anymore. Yeah. Again, whoop. Also, all of his friends are his coworkers. Yeah. Yeah. But they also seem to have been high school friends. They do.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Yeah. They do. They do. So yeah, she's going to put it in her two weeks. And while they're on the phone, she drops her crystal necklace down the drain. Fucking people who believe in crystals. Hard agree.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Yes. Like, what do you believe? Anyway, let's not go down that route. Yeah. So he goes to a store to buy her a new crystal necklace. Does he buy her a new crystal necklace? us? Which would actually be a thoughtful thing to do. It would be a very sweet thing to do.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Does not. No. Bies a one wish willow. He buys a one wish willow. And he is like, then the woman working about on the counter is like, just don't come back and complain about it. Yeah. Because she is fresh out of give a fucks
Starting point is 00:18:16 and having a completely different conversation while she's talking to him. Also, at some points there's a dick-shaped candle on the counter in front of her, and then sometimes it disappears. And I like that a lot. Because I was like, look at that dick-shaped candle. Now it's gone.
Starting point is 00:18:31 So he buys the one wish willow. Well, ostensibly to give it to Nikki. In lieu of a necklace. If he had just given it to her, I feel like she would have made a great choice. Like, I want to just have the time to work on my book. I'd like to have endless pizza. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:48 Always good, always fresh pizza. God damn. Forever. Never, never, never, never. Is that really what your one would be? I don't know. It's not a bad wish. It's not a bad wish.
Starting point is 00:18:58 It's not a bad wish. Because you can give it away. You can feed people with it. You know, it's not like it's entirely selfish. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Oh, man, me and the Gaza soup kitchen going and just giving pizza out to people? Flinging slices, baby.
Starting point is 00:19:15 So we do learn that people complain about this. This is a thing that people complain about their one wish. So he goes to Trivia night. He's all morose because his cat died. Yeah, but he's kind of like hamming it up. You think so? doesn't actually care about this cat. No, he's playing it to get Nikki's sympathy.
Starting point is 00:19:31 Okay. Interesting. Interesting. Yeah. Because I, as I said, I watched this movie with Vicky who came up with like a whole other theory of the movie. Oh, really? Based around the cat.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Yeah. We'll get to it. Why is she not on this episode? I actually thought about it and then I was like, I actually can't. So Ian the whole time does not want him to ruin trivia by telling Nikki how he feels about her. Yeah. But you're right, ulterior motives.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Yes. And while they're like chatting at the bar, he like rolls up talking about a gun that Sarah's dad keeps in the store safe. Sure. Yeah. I'm so stoked about who plays Sarah's dad. Andy Richter. I would love to watch him do anything, you know. So Nikki makes fun of him for ordering a Pina Colotta.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Yeah. Because he doesn't like the taste of alcohol. Yeah. I mean, strong opinion. Pita Ciladas are gross. I love a Pia. a lot of but I also I like the taste of alcohol so I'm kind of all over the place. You're hard to nail down.
Starting point is 00:20:34 I'm actually easy to nail down. It's because I've drunk too much and I'm lying on the floor. Humber hammer hammer. I took shots this weekend. They take shots. I took shots. They two teach shots. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Last time I took a shot, it was a beer. Were you doing power hour? A friend of mine wanted to give me a shot for my 50th birthday and I was like, I didn't really do a hard alcohol. She's like, we'll do a fucking beer. and I was like, in. Pour me an icy light.
Starting point is 00:21:00 So, um, he doesn't get to tell them that Sandy died, but he is able to tell Sarah who reacts with the kind of horror and sadness. A friend should react with her. Sarah's great. She's a fucking catch. She's a catch.
Starting point is 00:21:15 And as a couple of these videos that I watch pointed out, they are the couple that has chemistry. Yeah. Sarah and Bear have good chemistry together. They do. But she's just not as like conventionally hot. but also very hot She's a goth girl
Starting point is 00:21:30 Yeah Everybody knows Do you have a fucking septum piercing? Yes, thank you, I'm in They end up leaving They're going to like drive to another bar Which is like why I live in the city So then I never have to do this
Starting point is 00:21:43 Sure But Nikki's like I do not want to go to another bar I just want to go home So Bear agrees to take her home Yeah Then she takes money from Sarah And gives it to the homeless person Which is meant to show us how great she is
Starting point is 00:21:54 It's a real save the cat moment Not only does she give him money, but she takes time to speak to him. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. So it's really, it's like, oh, you're a kind human being. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. In the car, she says that she's not feeling love and she wants to feel love so she can write her book. Yeah. And he's, of course, offended by this. Yeah. Why? Because she should love him.
Starting point is 00:22:20 Oh, right. Yeah. When she actually reads from it later, is that the book she's been working on or has, like, new Nikki? written that because that is not a love story. I miss, so, I think it's old Nikki, like coming through new Nikki.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Okay. So we can get into that. You think that is her love story. No, I think that is like her horror story. I see. Okay. Yeah, yeah. I mean,
Starting point is 00:22:47 it's about getting fucked by a brother, which is, right, which is what Mickey refers to him as being when she's talking to Sarah, which is related to him by Ian. Yeah. So he's going to take Nikki's home and he tells her I've got a gift for you and her reaction is,
Starting point is 00:23:02 Ew. Why does that make me nervous? And he says that's an odd reaction, which it is not. It is not. You're a weirdo. No, you should be stoked that you have a friend who's so honest with you about how she feels about that. They have like a little tip when they get out of the car. He calls her freaky Nikki.
Starting point is 00:23:18 She gets upset. Yeah. And then she says, do you like me? Because if you do, now is the time to tell me. And also she tells it, she asks him this, after she has closed a door, so there was an entire car between the two of them. Right. Yes, because as, was it Margaret Atwood who pointed out that men are worried that women will reject them and women are worried that men will kill them? I think it might have been.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Yeah, I think it was Margaret Adwood. So it's like she has put a buffer betwixt the two of them before she asked him if he likes her. Yeah. He says, I think we're good friends. Yeah. Because he's a puss. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:55 And a coward and a dickhead. Because if he had just said it, she could have turned him down and then it would be over. The movie would have ended right there. Yeah. And he could be like, oh, well, maybe we could just be friends because you're actually a really rad human being who I shouldn't want to be friends with. No, men aren't friends with women unless they want to fuck them. Except you would meet because we're platonic life mates.
Starting point is 00:24:13 Yeah. Yes. Doi. So he pulls out the one which Willow says, I wish Nikki Freeman love me more than anyone in the fucking world and then snaps it. Yeah. And then cut to she is standing in silhouette. Yeah, backlet.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Outside of her house. Yeah. She comes down to the window and says that she wants to go home with him, I think. She says, I did just lose my cat. Oh, wait. I mean, you lost your cat. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:40 We can have some drinks and talk about your cat. This is like where she's still aware that something is wrong. She's like, I'm acting so weird. This is so weird. What the fuck? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And he's still like, what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:24:54 What the fuck? fuck this is so weird yeah what did you yeah what weird how that happened huh because is this a world in which magic is real yeah i mean yes just based on the billion dollars right right yeah but like does he know this prior to the one wish willow oh i don't think so okay okay so uh so she comes up with she concox a impossible fable or story or tall tale about her father being dying of cancer. Yes. And she's like puts her head on the dashboard crying and then turns her head to like look at him to see how he's reacting.
Starting point is 00:25:36 And it's very uncomfortable. Yeah. He still takes her home with him. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What are we doing, guys? He takes her to his house.
Starting point is 00:25:46 Which is his grandma's house because she died. And he lives in it. Yes. And then her medication is the medication he's been taking that killed his cat. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Um, she asks him to sleep there and then takes her shirt off. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:59 To which I've written, God, he really is just awful. But he, like, when she's taking her shirt off, he turns away from her. I think he just doesn't know what to do. I don't think it's like out of a, uh, a sense of, like, propriety or morality. And he's just like, tuts. Then, what em tits? They're kissing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:20 And she, like, leans back, pulls back and then, like, freaks out. out like what the fuck so i i wonder if it's because she closed her eyes to kiss him and then when she closed her eyes he wasn't there anymore he wasn't there anymore so like it broke the spell for a little bit and she was able to like scream and figure out what the fuck was going on yeah because she breaks through a couple times but they get sort of like rarer yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah so uh he he does the the the the chivalrous thing he sleeps on the floor while she sleeps in the bed. Right.
Starting point is 00:26:57 And he can't sleep so he's investigating the one-wish willow to see if it's real or not. On a website called Threadit. So clever. I love that. You love to see it. So he goes to the bathroom and then he comes back and she's awake and asks him what he's been doing. Yeah. He, he, when she's made breakfast.
Starting point is 00:27:19 No, no, no. This is just in the middle of the night and she asks him to come lay with him. Oh, right, right, right. Yeah. Now it's morning. Now it's morning. And she has made breakfast and there's a little something on the floor. It's a little memorial to his cat.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Yeah, except what? Except it's got the whole cat body in it. Yeah. Yeah. Memorial to the whole cat. And you don't, you don't open casket a cat. Listen, if you're a demon, probably don't know what's going on. I don't think she's a demon.
Starting point is 00:27:45 I don't think she's a demon. No? No. She's in like a sunken place or something though, right? She is just a version that he's, created of what he wants. She's not possessed. It's like her real self is suppressed, in my opinion.
Starting point is 00:28:03 Sure. She's suppressed and that the version of her that he invented is the one that's like taking center stage. Because later she's like, she's sleeping right now. Please kill me. Like I can't live with this anymore. And I took that as being something else was inside of her suppressing her. Yeah, this other version of her.
Starting point is 00:28:21 But it's not a demon. Okay. Demons are like, you know, Pizzou. I'm thinking Pizzuzzi. I'm thinking Pizzuzzi. I'm thinking Pizzuzzi here. You're always thinking Pizzuzzi.
Starting point is 00:28:30 I am regularly thinking Pizzuzu. He doesn't like the memorial to his cat. He's not into it. He's very upset by it. Not upset enough. Sure. She's like, he says, this is fucked. And she goes, well, I don't know if it's fucked,
Starting point is 00:28:46 bear. And he just is like, okay. Because I'm not of this world. Yeah. But also, like, Like, you hadn't done anything about the situation. You hadn't, like, called anybody to take care of the situation. Maybe he was going to bury the cat later.
Starting point is 00:29:01 We don't know. We don't know. He wasn't. He's a piece of shit. Okay. So he goes to work and who works with the music story. It's our guy, Andy Richter. Andy Fugger Richter.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Andy Richter is Sarah's dad. Yeah. And I just love Andy Richter. He's fucking great. Yeah. American Treasure. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:18 So he has this con, they come in together, which obviously everyone's like, Yeah, Ian's very like, oh, you fucked her? You fucked her? And they're having this conversation in like the break room while she is in the background just staring at them the entire conversation. Yes. Very good. Yeah. I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:29:33 Yeah. This actor is fucking phenomenal. She's phenomenal. And I think a lot of the shots are, I mean, you know, I'm not, I don't know much about film. Sure. But, uh, you taught me about the Dutch angle. And then I promptly forgot what it is. And then when you brought it up to me, I was like, I've never heard this before in my life.
Starting point is 00:29:49 It's shot really well Yeah Yeah Yeah What is the guy's name Curry Barker Currie Barker Fucking
Starting point is 00:29:58 He's a good filmmaker Great eye Yeah Yeah Yeah So yeah We kind of like Speed run to the work day
Starting point is 00:30:06 Um And Ian like says that he talked to her And she's fine That she was like on Molly or something Yes Yeah Yeah yeah yeah MDMA
Starting point is 00:30:16 MDMA MDMA MDMA Mm-hmm. SMD-H. SMD-H. M-D-M-A. So he goes home and then there she is at the door,
Starting point is 00:30:26 wearing like a red cocktail dress. Sure. As you do. Do you? No, I don't. No, no, no. So she says she knows that he likes her. And her eyes are glowing.
Starting point is 00:30:41 Like she's shot in the dark with like a light behind him. So you just are getting this like glint in her eye. I think this is what's giving me the demon vibes. I think it's just glinty. Sure. Sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think both things can be true.
Starting point is 00:30:57 Yeah. Yeah, she says, I know you like me, Bear. And he's like, no, because he's a fucking pose. And then he's like, why? Do you like me? Like, are they 11? How old are these children? 35.
Starting point is 00:31:10 35, I forgot up. No, like early 20s and like, yeah, I mean, I get it. Like, no, I don't like you. Do you like me, though? Is that a thing you like? I don't think I've ever been that, that, what's the word, coy. That's not my vibe.
Starting point is 00:31:29 I'm coy as hell, Doc. You are probably coy as hell, aren't you? Yeah, probably. You're a cad. I think that's what, what upsets me about this type of thing is like, oh, yeah, no, I see myself in this stuff. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:45 I wasn't great. I've gotten better as I've gotten old. I mean I would hope so One would hope One would hope So we get this montage of fucking And kissing and looking at a comic
Starting point is 00:31:57 That says I want to wear your skin as a sweater Goofing off, you know Sure Sarah hates it because of course she does This is oh this is why I have the Fun rom-com type shit that's going on Yeah Yeah they're like cooking together
Starting point is 00:32:11 And it's Fucking shit Yeah So they go out to dinner. Yes. During this montage. And Ian keeps calling while they're at dinner. And so he has to finally take the call from Ian.
Starting point is 00:32:26 And she gets annoyed that he has to take the call. For sure. Don't touch the laptop, buddy. Ian's like, I looked into her dad having cancer. He's been to work every day. Who'd you call? He says he called the hospital. And he says he called, yeah, his work and the hospital,
Starting point is 00:32:43 because they'd never heard of him. Why would they give you his records? You're a kid from music shop. Oh, PPI doesn't exist in this universe. Seriously. He also tells Bear that Sarah said that Nikki had friend zoned him, basically. Yes, that she thinks of him as a brother. So, yes.
Starting point is 00:33:10 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. She gives him a gift. It's a tiger's eye. It's a tiger's eye. That belonged to her mom for confidence and willpower. Yes. And she says, Stop being a fucking pussy.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Bear, I love you so, so, so much. I don't think I could live without you. Yeah. He asks if her dad has cancer and she flips. This is the first time we get to see her like go baddie. And this is superior acting at this point. She's great. When she stands up and goes, no, no.
Starting point is 00:33:41 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, which reminded me of... Don't do that. I thought we were having a nice date. It reminded me of the no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. So, I mean, there are a lot of get out parallels in this, I think. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, I thought that was, like, fucking, like, oh, oh, oh, this is bad. Yeah. And the scene ends with, like, her asking him if she, if he cares either way. He's like, I don't care either way. Yeah, she's like, then why does it matter?
Starting point is 00:34:23 And he's like, it doesn't. Cut to them having sex. No, he is fucking her. No. Nay, he is raping her. She is just staring to the side and he does not notice. Yeah. It's fucking awful.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. And I was like, I don't want to be watching this movie. No. I don't like this. This is not fun. And then she goes, that was amazing baby. And my heart broke.
Starting point is 00:34:49 And he takes it as, yeah, it was. Yeah, I'm pretty good at this. I did that. Yeah. I didn't even look at you. But just, yes. He's a bad dude. He's a bad person.
Starting point is 00:35:01 He falls asleep after this coitus. And when he wakes up, she's not next to him. She's not next to him. Where is she, Alan? She's sitting in the corner of the room. She's just staring and whispers, go back to sleep. I'm watching you sleep. She does.
Starting point is 00:35:16 She does like a little dinosaur walk in slow motion. It's very creepy. And then slides back into the corner. But there's like a second of him having this like post nut clarity right before he falls asleep of just being like, this isn't good, right? I mean, no. But I'm going to go to sleep anyway. But I'm not going to like figure anything out.
Starting point is 00:35:41 Why would I fix this? Well, he's going to have to, because she wakes up in the middle of the night and says, I don't like my dreams and then start sobbing and says, I feel like you don't love me as much as I do. Like, it's not mutual. Why don't you love me? And then she, like, moves sideways across the room holding a vase of flowers in front of her face. It's so good. I got these for your cat.
Starting point is 00:36:03 It's so good. She's so good. Why is it so scary that she's got him for his cat? I don't know. for Sandy. And then she just goes back to bed and goes to sleep. Well, no. First he tries to leave and then she goes, stay.
Starting point is 00:36:19 And I do think there's some element of this that like irks younger men in terms of having women having behaved like this towards them, which I think is what's confusing men on the internet where they're like, you know, have had a controlling girlfriend. Sure. And then see her as a villain. as a result of that. There's a bit of like, I don't think there's ambiguity,
Starting point is 00:36:46 but I can see how people might. Huh. Okay. I've never had a girlfriend in my life that was anywhere near controlling like that. No. I wish you would have just said, I've never had a girlfriend in my life,
Starting point is 00:36:59 and we could just pretend you were a virgin. I mean, women don't exist, so. There we go. He wakes up in the morning, and she has cut his hair. She has cut his hair. He says,
Starting point is 00:37:13 let's not do that. She says, okay. Where'd that hair go? Did she do it because she was doing something with the hair? Or did she do it because his bangs looked stupid? I don't know, but he doesn't even freak out the fact that she's fucking duct tape the door shut. No, neither of them really addresses it except then she's like, well, if you're having trouble, you should just stay here. I really like that shot, though, of like him turning and like it's kind of like a pulling back. And there's a wall over the like duct taped door. Yeah. Yeah. But I felt like it's played for like a comedy beat. Oh, I didn't think so at all.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Okay. Yeah. I think it's like, oh shit, how long has she been at this? Because you know how long that would take? I do. I have duck takes the door. You can't leave. I was like, jump out the window.
Starting point is 00:37:59 She has packed him a lunch. She's packed him a lunch with photos. And she's practicing her big smile. Oh, I hated it so much. I hate it, but I love how expressive she is. Sure. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:13 I mean, she's great. She's a fucking fantastic. like apparently she was just like a TikTok person. Yeah, I guess. And she made like no money from this. But now she's going to be in like a, I don't know, she's going to be Wonder Woman or something. Sure. Why not?
Starting point is 00:38:25 Whatever the fuck. Why wouldn't you be? She's going to be the next James Bond's. She M. Al Jers. Elba. Yeah. James Bond's for life. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:38:40 So. Oh, no, please. No, please. No, please. So we see him at work and he's got his lunch. Wait, no, she pisses herself first. Oh, that's right. So this is where Vicky came up with the cat thing.
Starting point is 00:38:53 So she stands by the door and just stands there and pisses herself. And when he gets home, she is also vomited on the rug. Right. So Vicki's theory, hold on. With the way, she explained it to me, I was like, actually, that's pretty good. And now that I want to say it out loud, it sounds insane. Is it that she's possessed by the cat? No, it's just that she becomes like the replacement.
Starting point is 00:39:15 to the cat. And then at the end, he tries to kill himself with the same pills that killed the cat. She thinks the cat is well more wrapped into all of these emotions than I did. But, you know, cats just pee-and-puk on your rug, so. Constell.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Freya, my cat, puked between the couch cushion and the couch the other day. Good for her. Great spot. Like she had to, like, push the cushion. She was like, I'm going to save this for later. Like Vicky does with chips when she's some on your couch. Shove them into the couch cushs them onto the couch. She sure does.
Starting point is 00:39:50 But I just assumed it was that when he's not there, she stops. I think that is it. Yes. But I like the idea, the Vicky theory of obsession, that somehow he has become, she has become the new cat. And then when he has to end the relationship, he ends at the same way the cat ended their life. I would believe it if at any point she made biscuits on him. Maybe she did in that cute little montage scene. I wouldn't be surprised if she was making biscuits on him. Anyway, yes, he opens his lunchbox and there's Polaroids. There's a Polaroid of him.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Labled you. And then a Polaroid of the two of them. Labeled not me. Not me. It's a bit unnerving. And he takes it in stride. He's taken a lot of things in stride at this point. So Sarah tells him that she thinks it's super weird, that they're super dating.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Yeah. Yeah. And that Ian is having a party. Yeah. That they're not invited to. They're not invited to. And then she gets a letter from a college from Andy Richter. She has not gotten in.
Starting point is 00:40:52 She has not gotten accepted. At this point, I realize there's a no playing stairway to heaven flyer up in the music store. And I thought, Wayne's World. Cute. Cute. So his lunch smells weird, Sarah tells him. Yeah. There's a note of posted on it that says, for my little food critic.
Starting point is 00:41:11 Yeah. It's on a C-3. Lid. Yeah. Sarah turns the lid over. Yeah. What's it say? Uh, it says, no detached.
Starting point is 00:41:19 Says, what's the verdict on the cat? What's the verdict? Cat? What's the verdict? Cat? So he looks at the sandwich. Yeah. realizes it's made of the cat.
Starting point is 00:41:29 And fur. And fur. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he turns and starts vomiting into a trash can. Uh-huh. And Ian screams from off camera, Bear, what the fuck? And I thought about in Hell House. Hell House.
Starting point is 00:41:41 I'll see when the one guy is running. and then vomits and the other guy just goes, what the fuck? And I thought, fuck, I wish I was watching that. That's a chill movie. That's a chill fun movie. It's a chill fun movie where I don't have to feel bad about men and women interacting with each other. Yeah, it's true. They sidestep that by having one woman.
Starting point is 00:42:04 And Paul's theme. I think it's Paul who pukes. I think it is. So Ian kind of questions him about his relationship with her. Right. And talks to him about how he might be taking advantage of her because he talked about how she was having a mental breakdown. Yeah. He says it looks like Nikki's going through something and you're taking advantage of it.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Yeah. And he's like, what? She's all over me. Yeah. He says to Ian, why are you trying to ruin something good? Mm-hmm. Yeah. So he says, I'm having a party.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Why don't you come? It's just bros. Just a boy's night. And if your relationship is healthy, then it's okay for you to just have some space. Yep. So this is when he calls the one wish line. Yes, he hears the song from the, like the little melody that it plays before you break it. Out of the box.
Starting point is 00:43:05 He finds the box and calls. and the guy is like, it's a very strange voice and he says like, you want to cancel it. And he's like, no, no, I want to keep the wish. I just want to alter it a little. I want to keep this woman subjugated to a relationship with me
Starting point is 00:43:21 where she does not want to be in it. But like differently. Yeah, where I have crushed her autonomy. But differently. Yeah. A little bit different. Just like a little. Like maybe.
Starting point is 00:43:30 I just want her not to be weird. I just want to not have to clean or be embarrassed. Yeah. Yeah. Can't you just be cool while I'm, subject, subject her autonomy. And then he's like,
Starting point is 00:43:39 no, no, fine, let's cancel it. And the guy says, that's not really something we do. No,
Starting point is 00:43:44 that was pretty funny, actually. That apparently is the director of the movie. Oh, nice. Yes. And then he says,
Starting point is 00:43:49 just because you chose this for her doesn't mean it's any less real. Yeah. Yeah. And how can he break the curse
Starting point is 00:43:57 or break the wish? He can, he can die. He can die. Yeah. He says, do you want to talk to her? And then it's just
Starting point is 00:44:04 Nikki screaming. Screaming in hell. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Not in hell. Just, you know. What are you going to call it?
Starting point is 00:44:13 Not hell? Yeah. Your autonomy has completely been taken away from you. I mean, that's being an American woman, really. Just kidding. I drove a car over here. It's true. But I will need your credit cards before you leave.
Starting point is 00:44:26 Oh, yeah. I haven't had those for six months. But, yeah, he comes inside. Yeah. And she's standing in the same spot. Covered. and piss and vomit. And when she goes to walk to him,
Starting point is 00:44:39 the carpet slashes, which is a wonderful touch. It did look like she had been puking up cat food, if I'm honest with you. Yeah, it looked like kibble. It looked like cat poop. Either kibble or like Reese's buffs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:53 He says, what the fuck is this? And she says, I ate a bug or I have a stomach bug or I don't know. She's just like short-circuiting. Because she's a demon and doesn't know how human. I don't think that's it, but I appreciate your take on this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:06 She says, I'll go shower and I'll clean it up, I promise. And she goes into the bathroom and like slams the door. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And he says, you can't cook the cook or can't cook the cat. And her response is, okay, honey. Okay, honey.
Starting point is 00:45:22 I'm very upset about that, he says, yeah. I like what he says, Ian invited me to a boy's night tonight and then the water just like screeches stopped. Yeah. And you can hear the curtain open on the shower too. So scary. Yeah. Yeah. She's great.
Starting point is 00:45:38 And then she screams? Just screams. Yeah. So she goes. She's doing this like, if you would want me to go, you would have told me to go. And then they're at the party.
Starting point is 00:45:53 If you didn't mean to do it, you wouldn't have done it in the first place. Yeah. Okay, I have an issue with this because you can't just pull a jenga block from the top. That's not how jenga works. But do jenga with things you have to do on it? Yeah, drinking jenga, I guess.
Starting point is 00:46:12 I guess. That's weird. They're kids, you know. Sure. You play Fortnite. Yeah. I love Fortnite. You should understand.
Starting point is 00:46:22 I found this whole scene to be incredibly fucking stressful. Like, it builds so much tension and it's so awkward and uncomfortable. And, like, you're so on edge during it. Just because they're playing jenga wrong? Yeah. Yeah. You know how I feel about rules. I rules lawyer jenga.
Starting point is 00:46:42 So the, the, the, there's, like, something gets pulled where they're like, you have to switch seats with somebody. So a guy switches seats with bear. And then bear pulls a jenga that says you have to kiss the person to your left. This is after she's read from her book. Oh, she already read from her book, the Hansel and Gretel story. It's a Hansel and Gretel story where in Hansel and. Hansel is trying to, or excuse me, Gretel is trying to fuck Hansel.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I am more than your wife. I am your sister. Brother, you will be inside me tonight. Something about filleting his meaty forearm and jerking off with it. It's fucking wild and she's doing this crazy little voice and I fucking love it. She's so upsetting. It's so weird. It's so funny.
Starting point is 00:47:30 Then she like sits down just like, just a book I'm working on. There wasn't a prompt to read the last story that you've written, was it? I don't know. Yeah, because she's like, I did the thing. I don't have to drink. Huh. Drinking jenga is weird. Drinking and literary jenga.
Starting point is 00:47:50 So he pulls a jenga that says he has to kiss the person on his left. Which is Sarah. Which is Sarah. Which causes Nikki to stand up. Pull Sarah backwards. She stands behind her for like a very, long second where like Sarah doesn't dare look behind her
Starting point is 00:48:06 and then pulls her backwards. Yeah. And kneels down and puckers up. Yep. It's so uncomfortable. It's so good. Yeah. And then she does this really sad like little kid face. Where she's pulling like the super frown.
Starting point is 00:48:26 Yeah, she's got the super frown. This is when she thinks he's going to kiss Sarah. Yeah. It does like a monologue about the strength of their connection. Oh, and then She's just like, I'm just messing around, except I'm not. You guys will never know this love that we have between each other. Deal with it.
Starting point is 00:48:42 Oh, it's so good. No one on earth will ever comprehend how it feels to love someone like I love you and everyone will die, never feel in the strength of a connection I have with my bear. Yikes. Ian says he wants some jello shots, which is a great icebreaker. Tension in that room is so thick. You could cut it with a knife, get the jello shots. Do you know the only person I've ever done Jello shots with?
Starting point is 00:49:10 It's definitely me. You know why? I love Jello shots. I really do. What's not to like? It's Jello, it's liquor. Jello and shots. Who's mad at this?
Starting point is 00:49:22 Who's mad? So what does she do with a bottle in her face? She's smiling at Bayer. And then she like catches herself, realizes what she's doing and gasps. She screams, it's not me, it's not me, and starts hitting herself in the face. Yep. Mm-hmm. And Bear's reaction is to do nothing.
Starting point is 00:49:41 Everyone's like, Bear, she needs your help, Bear. Help her. Help her. And he's just staring straight ahead. He's not even looking at her. He sucks. Yeah. Now, in my first watch of this movie, I was kind of like, God, like, is he just, he just
Starting point is 00:49:56 doesn't know what to do. Like, he has a secret that he tricked her into this. He can't tell anyone. No one would believe him anyway. Like, almost, like. like, oh, wow, what would you even do? But on the third watch, I'm so over him. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:13 It's not that. It's that she's not doing what he wants her to do. This isn't the love he wanted. Yeah, so he's just disassociating. Yeah. So they go home. They go to the ER and for some reason she's like dancing and prancing while he's arguing with someone?
Starting point is 00:50:30 Yeah. Mm-hmm. Okay. Then they go home. Okay. Sorry. Yes. Um, and he gets up to go to the,
Starting point is 00:50:37 bathroom. She says, can I stand outside, but I wish she had said, can I hold it while you pee? You ever had a woman ask if they could, if she could hold it while she'd be? Of course. What is that urge? What is that urge? I mean, why not? I mean, no, it's not you people. It's us people. I wonder why we want to do that. Because you can't do it yourself. Yeah, like, it's not ever, you know, it's not ever really negatively impact me. You can let me know whether or not you want that cut from the podcast. Oh, no, you can leave that in. I mean, everyone's nodding along with this, right?
Starting point is 00:51:23 All non-penis havers are agreeing. Yeah. Oh, man. Is this when she says that she knows that Sarah likes him? Yeah. And then he asks, do you like me? Is Nikki happy? Does Nikki like me?
Starting point is 00:51:43 Yeah. Love it when you're third person this shit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Until like this moment, I think he really believed it was real. Do you? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:55 Oh. I thought he just wanted it to be real. Maybe. What's the difference, really? One is understanding that you've done a bad. Ah, yes. That's why he made that phone call to see if he could fix it. And I was like, I don't actually want to fix it because if I fix it,
Starting point is 00:52:10 then I'll have to acknowledge it. I'm a fucking piece of shit. Well, in order to fix it, you have to die. Which is a big ask. I guess. Who doesn't want the sweet release? Please come for me, death. One last caress.
Starting point is 00:52:26 He tells her to be normal and tells her to just be Nikki. Yeah. He says we need space from each other. And she's doing like, and I don't want space. I think this is the bit that gets men upset. Do you see what I'm saying? Yeah, I think this is the thing that men think women are going to do that women don't actually do. I mean, I've never experienced it.
Starting point is 00:52:52 I've never liked a man this much. I've never experienced it. And I've been a man this whole time. This whole fucking time. But you've never had a girlfriend. You're a virgin. Your lived experiences. Is she a little?
Starting point is 00:53:07 version? Is she a version? We should have done Monster Squad again. There's a good scare here where she's like, I love you in every reality bear, and then she like walks backwards in slow motion with weird sort of indistinct speech. Like, okay, fine.
Starting point is 00:53:33 And then he's like, I'll just go and sleep at Ian's. Yeah. And she tells him what will happen if he does. Yeah, I don't, she starts with, I don't need your attention, and then she comes back with a knife. Yeah. Yeah. She gives a very disturbing monologue about killing herself. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:53:52 Yep. Darkness is, there's, it's not darkness. No, sweetie. Darkness is a color. There's just nothing. Yeah. Or you could stay. So he gets a text from Sarah.
Starting point is 00:54:07 turn off your phone sounds bro it's 2.30 in the morning yeah you can set up your phone now but do not disturb after like 10 p.m. My phone has been on silent for like 15 years. I know yours never is because it goes off all the time while we're recording and I get mad because you're not being professional. Well, I'm a millennial. I mean I'm Jed Z. I'm Jed Z. We love having a ring around. Try again.
Starting point is 00:54:29 But yeah, Sarah says if he doesn't meet her then she's coming over. Yeah, yeah. And then we get to the most, one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie. What's that? sleeping, Nikki, talking to him as Nikki, saying, bear, kill me. Please, she's sleeping. It's me. Please don't wake her up.
Starting point is 00:54:44 Just kill me. Yeah. So let's just say, let's just say hypothetically. Yeah. You're in bed with your partner and they say that to you. Yeah. You're just going to go meet your friend. You say, you make it about you by saying what would be so bad about being with me.
Starting point is 00:55:01 How can you see that line delivery and still go, he's just a man trying to through this world. I think a lot of men on Reddit have a lot of reasons to feel that way. Or so they believe. I know that this will be detrimental to my own livelihood, but men
Starting point is 00:55:21 get the fuck offline. Turn the internet off. We need them. We need them. That's how we make money. Yeah. Or just be chill on the internet. Just be chill everywhere. Just be cool. It's not going to have. Just go read some like
Starting point is 00:55:37 fucking Ursula Kayla Gwyn and go chill out for a while Read some bell hooks What are you guys doing? Bell hooks Come on Alan These are big asks for people Bell hooks fucking changed my life
Starting point is 00:55:49 I'm sure actually Read some bell hooks Go read some bell hooks I've never been with you bear Just kill me please please please please I've never been with you Yeah I've never been with you
Starting point is 00:56:04 Yeah How is that not the end of this movie. Well, because we gotta get Sarah smoking with the windows up. Come on.
Starting point is 00:56:12 You're too young and beautiful for this. How does he just not fill his pockets full of rocks and walk into the ocean? I don't know. Oh.
Starting point is 00:56:23 Sarah has now tried to tell him twice that Ian and Nikki have been fucking. Yeah. She tried to tell him once in the
Starting point is 00:56:30 store and now once at the beginning of this conversation. Sure. And it's like they've been fucking and it's a totally casual thing and they don't actually
Starting point is 00:56:37 care about each other. But now she's taking advantage of you. And he's like, she's not taking advantage of me. Oh, yeah, y'all. They've been hooking you up for years. Yeah, two years. Yeah. She's got the letter from Luther.
Starting point is 00:56:49 You think she's going to get into Luther? She's going to get into Luther. Of course, she's going to get into Luther. Yeah. Speaking of Idger Selba, great Idriselba TV show, Luther. Yeah. And that baby, what did you call that guy who's like sidekick who's a hunky baby? Hot Ziggy.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Hot Ziggy. Hot Ziggy. Hot Ziggy, hunky baby. You can see my confusion. Of course, of course. What's Nikki do? What's Nikki do? So they have this,
Starting point is 00:57:24 there's this moment where she and Bear have great chemistry. Yeah. Of like, she's like, well, I was the one on your left. And he just like smiles at her and she smiles back. And it's really cute and sweet. And he's like, you can give me a tattoo. You know, I don't know if that happened before.
Starting point is 00:57:36 but they really do have good chemistry. Sure. Nikki runs up with a brick and puts it on the steering wheel and smashes her face and do it like a million fucking times and the horn honks every time and then her eyeball is all the way out. And tore her teeth. Her teeth, her eyeball.
Starting point is 00:57:50 And he's just covered in blood. Yeah. And Nikki says, this is your fault. Yeah. Just remember that you wanted this, but I'm so happy you did. You wished for this. Oh, so they hide the body.
Starting point is 00:58:06 Yeah. Yeah. Oh my God. And he goes back to the crystal necklace, one wish Willow store. Uh-huh. The guy who's working now is like my favorite character in this movie. Oh, fresh out of give a fucks? Fresh out of give a fucks.
Starting point is 00:58:21 And the guy's like, what did you do? And he says, she's obsessed with me. And the guy goes, well, that's not so bad. He's covered in blood. He says you could kill yourself. I mean, I'm just spitballing here. he can't make another wish. No, he tries.
Starting point is 00:58:41 But maybe she can. But he thinks maybe he can get Ian to do it because he doesn't want to confront the fact that he has to explain to Nikki what he's done to her and that it's wrong. Oh my God. Yeah, dude. So what does Ian wish for?
Starting point is 00:58:54 Ian is having none of this and says, I want a billion dollars and it just falls from the sky. It falls from the fucking ceiling. His bear screams and falls to his knees. This is like, people were describing this as sort of like a monkey's paw. story, but it's pretty evident that if you make a good wish, it's not a monkey spot.
Starting point is 00:59:12 Like, he wishes for a billion dollars. He just gets a billion dollars, you know? It's not a, yeah, yeah. It's not a watch what you wish for. Right. It's a like, only wish for a good thing, maybe. Exactly. Although I don't think having a billion dollars is really a good thing either.
Starting point is 00:59:27 I mean, I think the director has said multiple times, like, it's not the one wish willow that's evil. It's the thing that Bear does that it's evil. Yeah. and men are like, nah, nah, nah,
Starting point is 00:59:37 nah, is that bitch? I know that's what you're saying. And I hear you because you're also a fellow man. Your words ring. Anyway, he goes back to his house.
Starting point is 00:59:53 Yeah. And she is in the corner of the living room so that he doesn't see her when he walks in, which is also a great shot. Sure. That she's like behind him, having made a terrible shrine.
Starting point is 01:00:05 Yeah. It's like candles and trash? Mm-hmm. And Sarah's naked body is around here, too? Yeah, because she's wearing the dress that Sarah was wearing at the party the night before. And she's drawn Sarah's tattoos on herself. And she's trying to smoke, but doesn't smoke. Like her body doesn't smoke, which I thought was a very, like, creepy idea.
Starting point is 01:00:25 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Can I say, though, that I love the vintage vice flamingo, uh, cigarette poster that's
Starting point is 01:00:35 behind him? It's real good. Okay. So he locks himself in the bathroom. Because she's going, why don't you love me? And then she shoots Ian. She does shoot Ian. And then she says she's going to shove the barrel of the gun in her pussy, and then she
Starting point is 01:00:49 barfs on him. Yeah. As you do. That's when he locks himself in the bathroom. I'm sorry. Yes. So he's going to, he, she says she's thinking maybe they should break up. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:06 What is that? I just, I guess to like torment him, I'm not sure. Okay. And he's going to kill himself with the gun, but he can't do it. He can't figure out where to shoot. He's like trying to find his heart and then he puts it in his mouth. Sure. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:01:21 If Charlie Kirk is any indication, I think I'm going for my neck. Quick, quick and easy. Oh, no, Alan. No, no, no, don't take your glasses off. So he instead decides to take the pills that killed his cat, reinforcing. Vicki's she has the new cat theory. Yeah, she thinks it's somehow full circle with the cat. Sure.
Starting point is 01:01:41 Yeah, yeah, yeah. He takes a bunch of them. And then he tries to make himself barf because, again, he's a puss. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then he hears the melody and the snap. Yeah, the one wish willow. And then he walks out and smiles at her and she smiles of him.
Starting point is 01:01:57 Because she has wished that he would love her as much as she loves him. Uh-huh. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And then the, the, the, the, he died. and the spell is broken and her life is utterly destroyed amongst the bodies of our friends. Right, because she's going to go to jail for all of this. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Yeah. And then it has to go upside down to TV static because this is elevated horror. You got to go upside down at some point. Yeah. And then the credits roll with her scream sobbing over top of them. Yeah. Last note? Last note is the credits roll with her scream sobbing.
Starting point is 01:02:30 Mine is, I don't think I need to see this a fourth time. No. No. No, I'm sad. No, baby. three times. No, I'm done. I think I'm done.
Starting point is 01:02:38 That's a lot of times. It's a lot of times because it only came out like this summer. That's a lot of times for me to see any movie, let alone a new movie, let alone this movie. I'm going to have to say it's your favorite movie. I feel like we didn't do a great job making yuck yucks about it. How you make yuck yucks about this movie? I don't know. Isn't that our fucking job?
Starting point is 01:02:56 Can that what they pay us for? This is free, dog. Yes, we want to pay us. We want to get where we actually make jokes. Patreon.com back slash Whirlfambulence. Katie. Alan. Rating's face.
Starting point is 01:03:09 Do it. What did you think of this? I'm so tired. I think it's a really good movie. Same. I think the reaction, my only beef with it is the reaction of some people who watch it, and that's not the film's fault. Sure.
Starting point is 01:03:28 Nine and a half? Oh, wow. Yeah, I think it's really good. Okay. Yeah. I don't know if I can go that high. Okay, where are you going? Nine.
Starting point is 01:03:36 Okay. I think it's really good. really good movie. It's really good. I would say if you're a fan of the genre and a fan of film, watch this movie. And if you're not a fan of the genre or film, what do you do, you don't listen to this fucking podcast? It's certainly not for the laughs. Just like to hear it for two friends getting together and yucky yuck yuck yuckin it up. I feel like you got to like something. But it's a movie I don't think I ever want to watch again. Yeah. Yeah. Like that's my hereditary benchmark. I saw it once. It was great. Yeah. I'm never watching it again. Yeah. Yeah. That's how I feel about most porn.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Yeah. Actually, once I've seen it once I've seen it once, it doesn't quite do it for me again. It's like I know what you're going to say. Hey, to everyone who's been getting in touch recently about going through separations, divorces, all of this stuff. Yeah. I'm so stoked that this podcast can be a safe space for you. Totally. Like, I am, this is like, no bullshit.
Starting point is 01:04:32 I'm so glad to get these messages. I don't always respond to them because I don't always know what to say. I have responded to some, but I can't respond to all of them because I am still a raw little baby. Right. Yeah. But like, we're here for you. I'm glad that this brings you joy. I will reiterate that I think saying yes to whatever is offered to you is the best advice I can give you when you're ready to get back into the world.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Yeah. Say yes. Yeah. Even if it sounds like it's going to be dumb. Yeah. Until then, if you just need to watch every episode of Friday Night Lights and Supernatural to get yourself through the day. That was how I did it. I watched every season of Broken Wood Mysteries on Acorn TV.
Starting point is 01:05:12 Yeah. What? We do what we got to do. We do what we got to do. We do what we got to do. And it gets better. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:19 It'll get better. You're going to be all right. So, speaking of getting better. You want to do another movie next week? I do want to do another movie next week. Let's do a movie you chose a few weeks ago that we've been pushing down the list. Yeah. For reasons unknown.
Starting point is 01:05:36 Yeah. Well, we wanted to do it. do something more topical. Yeah, that's true. And then, uh... I feel like everything that it could ever be said about obsession has already been said, and we were a little late to that party. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:45 So let's do a movie that's even older. That no one has talked about ever. Really? I don't know if anyone ever talking about this movie. I mean, it's not like there's other horror movie comedy podcasts. There's not like there's other podcasts. What are those? What?
Starting point is 01:05:57 We're going to do dissent to. That'll be fun. It'll be great. It'll be a little more fun than this. Hopefully. Yeah. I recall it being stupid fun. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:10 Okay, great. Like I said, Patreon.com back slash wherealv ambulance. We've got a bunch of action movies over there. We've got to get back to Nice One, Mate. Yeah. This season, we've been going too slow. We've been going too slow. That's on me.
Starting point is 01:06:23 I don't know if that's true because the first season, it was like a year between episodes one and two. Really? I didn't know that. Okay. God, how long have we been doing Nice One, mate? A long time. Seriously? You were 14 when we started.
Starting point is 01:06:35 You know, next month. they'll be our 12 year anniversary 13 year 12 year 12 year 12 year you're right I just want everyone to know Alan farted he's like a foot and a half from me I've been holding it in for a really long time it's like the word anniversary sets him off it's like a it's like a fucking Pavlovian
