Starting point is 00:00:00 Guys, we've been trying to figure out an intro for this episode. Neither of us has a joke. Neither of us has a joke. There's nothing funny about this. Hello. Hi. I'm Alan. I'm Katie. This is wherewulf ambulance ambulance. Welcome. It's raining outside. Is it? Yeah, it's raining, it's a. I'm Katie. This is wherewoof ambulance. Welcome. It's raining outside. Is it?
Starting point is 00:00:26 Yeah, it's raining. It's a little gloomy out. Do you want, do you want to watch this VHS that I got? Yeah, in this cabin that we're in? Yeah, you know I wouldn't go into cabin, but sure. So we're talking about the movie the ring Yeah. Or the Rang? The Wrang Wrong. Ring Rang Wrong. The 2002 remake.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Yeah, Naomi Watts. Brian Cox. I was about to say, I can't believe this is the first movie we've done with Brian Cox, but he was in Trick-Tree. It was in Trick-True. He has so many I movie you're watching. He's just like, what the fucks Brian Cox do here? It seems fucked up that we've had like two episodes with the younger sister from Ginger Snaps. True. And only two Brian Cox. Yeah, they should not be. They should not be on equal footing.
Starting point is 00:01:14 No, they should not be. We had a reflect on what we're doing as a podcast. Although he's in all those like, like, thi's, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th., th., th., th., th., th.... th.. th.. th. th. th. th that jazz. I don't know a Jason Bourne movie. I've never seen a. I can't wait until we start a born cast. I mean, it's called Born Again. Oh God, that's so good. Copyright, copyright. Yeah, all right, I'll watch them.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Maybe that's what our hundredth episode is not to ruin the surprise. Whoops. Yeah, Brian Cox is the the the the th-like, like, like, like, like, th-like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th-tha-tha-tha-tod-t, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's to ruin the surprise. Whoops. Yeah. Brian Cox is the only good thing about this movie. Oh, ratings face. Yeah. I'm in it. I'm exasperated today, so let's just get into it. I would tell a quick anecdote before we get into it. In 2000 and Duce, when this movie was dropping, like it's hot. That was, I wish I'm gonna throw myself out that one down the duce
Starting point is 00:02:05 I had a friend who was a bike messenger in Philly and one of the assignments that he got was to drop ring Video tapes all over the city like the tape of the of the of the video. Yeah, so I had one of those for a long time to the? to the VCR to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V C. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. to. to. to. to to to to to the that. Yeah. that. that's. that's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. that's. Yeah. that. Yeah. that. Yeah. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I that. I was. I was. I that. that. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. I that. Ithe time because it's ridiculous. But I thought that was an awesome marketing gimmick. Like, absolutely. You're just going to be like, oh, I'll just go home and watch this because it's probably porn. I'm going to watch porn. Sure. He was just leaving them in like public places?
Starting point is 00:02:34 Like in phone booth once, with 40 pages left on red, because I can't do this. I like that you abandoned it, like, like a parent at the end of their rope at the hospital. You were like, I take it, I can't anymore. My theory was this, the book was at like the height of its popularity. And I was like, I'll see what this is all about, I was, this, this, this, this, this, this, like, this, like, like, this, like, like, this, like, like, this, like, like, like, this, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, this, like, like, like, like, this is, like, like, this is, like, like, like, like, like, th, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the end of the the end of the the the end of the end of the end, the oh, I'll leave it in the phone booth, and someone's going to lose their mind. They just got a copy of the Da Vinci Code. Yeah. It was, it started strong and then it blooped. No, no.
Starting point is 00:03:10 No, no. So yeah, this is the remake of the Japanese film in the same name, or Ringo, as it became known after this is based on. Oh yeah. So I can just keep going down this nerd wormhole of being a nerd. I've seen the Japanese one once. Yeah. It was fine. Yeah, I love it. But I saw it like I saw it on a video CD. It was like before writeable DVDs. They were right up like it was weird. It was like you be. My friend got it from I the the video. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. It was a a video. I. It was a video. I the the the the the the th. I th. I th. I saw. I saw. I saw. I saw. I saw. I saw. I saw. th. I saw. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I the. I the. I the. I the. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. I. I. I. like it was weird. It was like you beeped my friend got it from I want to say like a dude at a Chinese restaurant was like, oh, do you want to buy this movie? Like this kind of thing? The ring movies are having very strange distribution. Yeah. And it was before like the J. Har thing hit so it like this was like, whoa, what is this? Yeah. I own the sequel to this movie? Yeah. I own the sequel to this movie with the American version The Deuce the deuce and it was an Iggle video rental It is still in its Iggle video case at my home When they open that back up you're gonna be in trouble. I know
Starting point is 00:04:12 It's a really long late fee. I don't think I checked it out. I think it was somebody else I don't think I would the foolishness to rent the ring too. But maybe I would. This movie really made me think a lot about myself and my own tastes. Okay. And it made me feel kind of bad about myself. No. Let's get into that a little later. Okay. So the basic plot of this film is
Starting point is 00:04:34 you'll find a videotape, watch the videotape and on the, and it's filled with all these nightmarish images and a high-pitched squeal that made my dogs go insane when I was watching this. Oh yeah? Yeah, the dogs went nuts. And then when you're done watching the video, you get a phone call. On your landline. Like you do. Because there weren't a lot of cell phones. Though they have cell phones in this movie that they are unable to use use the the the the phone on the person on the other end of
Starting point is 00:05:05 the phone will say you have seven days yep and then at the end of the seven days you die with a funny face. Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty much it but the first line of the movie is I hate television. Yeah and I already disagree. I love television. I know they're not living in the golden age of television like we are but it's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. I they. I they. I they. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. to to the. to to to teeeeeeeeeeeeeee. theeee. theeee. the. the. I the age of television like we are but it's true there was no Madmans. Go fuck yourself you're so goddamn teens. Tins are the worst! I do like that it's like it starts off as a very like teen urban horror like yeah it gets right into like this is the urban legend oh but wait it's not a legend. Yeah I like that set up a lot and it's very true to the original in that format in that format in that format in that format in that format in that format in that format in that format in that format th format th format th format th th th th th th the the th. the the th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the te. I. I's te. te. te. tean. tean. tea. tea. tea. te. te. te. te. te. their. their. true to the original in that format as well. OK. Although that whole intro scene with this girl, these two girls who are like BFFs, all of it is completely unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Like, so your friend is like telling you the story shared about the videotape that you just happened to have seen that weekend, when you were with a boy for an entire weekend, and you didn't tell your friend, like the th....... th. th. th. th. th. thi th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. All of it is all of it is all of it is all of it is all of it is all of it is all of it is all of it is all thi. All of it is all thi. All thi. All it is all it is all it is all it is it is it is it is it is it is it is it is it is it is it is all th. All. All th. All. All. All th. All. All. All. All. All. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theeeeeatea. All theatea. All thea. All thea. All thea. All of thea. All of the. All thi. All thi. All there's the most unbelievable part of the cold open is that a high school girl could keep that secret. Oh okay. You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. You're definitely gonna tell your friend oh I spent the weekend with my boyfriend. You know? In the weird woods. Yeah. So then it just sort of follows these girls until the first the one who saw the videos on timely demise. And I really like like the movie looks gorgeous. T the movie. The movie the movie the movie the movie the movie the movie looks looks looks the movie looks the movie looks looks looks the movie looks the movie looks the movie looks the movie looks the movie looks the movie looks the movie looks the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. the movie. I the movie looks gorgeous. Like, I love that blue-green gel over everything. Everything is blue-green. Oh, it's Seattle.
Starting point is 00:06:27 It's for the Seahawks. Seattle's a really good, I was, I think they chose a really good setting for this movie. Agree, especially for the like needing an island thing. Yeah, yeah. It has that like, noir feel to it, just like it's gray all the fucking time. Just raining constantly. Pittsburgh but yeah. Whenever they film movies in Pittsburgh though it's always sunny. Yeah. And I always feel like how did you get that day? Maybe they have a sunny gel they can put over everything. I need that. I need some vitamin D. But I love like the stuff like of like the door knob dripping when she's going up to it and like all these like very supernatural like spooky things that are happening with it like I think
Starting point is 00:07:07 that's handled really well in this. I think one supernatural thing that's handled very poorly is the precocious child who I was convinced was a Colkin is not a Colcon I was so sure like they're also you know what I mean like they all that distressing look about them and he I that I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I the I the I th I th I the I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th th th th th th the the the the thi the the the. She's terrible she's a Lorraine Warren if I've ever seen one. Yeah she's worse than Lorraine Warren I would say I would say I would say I would say I feel like he thii-like their mother Rachel he calls her Rachel they feel like more of a thi they feel like but he like starts getting messages from the little girl. Why? Why is he getting messages from her? He's psychic. Why? Is he? He's got the shine? Okay, but then why doesn't his mother, after he tels her that he's getting messages from the little girl, ask him for help? Like, yeah, I don't know. He knows more than you. You just hang up the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone phone the phone the phone the phone phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone the phone? the phone? the phone? th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. th. the the. the th. the th. the. than you. And you just hang up the phone on him. I read a lot of reviews that were just saying
Starting point is 00:08:05 that the weakest part of this film is the character development. Oh yeah. And like Rachel has like nothing. She has a nothing nobody. And that's a shame because Naomi Watts is really enjoyable and good actress. She's good in roles that give her something to be good with. Yeah, I mean like our like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thoged, thoes, the the the the thi, thoes, their thi, their their their their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their, is their, is their, is their, is their, is their thi., is thi., is thiaughea, is thi.ea, thea, thea, thia, thia, thia, is th to her is going to the kid's school, and the
Starting point is 00:08:25 teacher is trying to talk to her about some drawings, because kids are, you know, kids are always making these disturbing drawings. And she sits on the table instead of at the table. And then like, she says to the teacher, and the teacher's try and you said you said, you said yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself, you're to say, you're to say, you're to say, you're the the to say, you're not, to say, to say, the to say, to say, to say, to say, to say, to to to to to to to to to to say, their to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their their their their their their their their, their, their their, their, their, their their, their their their, their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, trying, trying trying to to their try., the teacher didn't say that. Also like this woman does not get paid enough for you to be so rude to her she's being so rude to the teacher. She's really shit and she walked into the classroom like on the phone like yeah yeah yeah no no fuck you yeah eat it fuck boy. You're not like a newspaper you're not like I don't know. She's contentious. Yeah but it's just like are you supposed to like her? to to like to like to like to like to to like to to to like her. to like her. to like her. to like her. to like her. to like her. to like her. to like her. to like to like to like to like to like the the to like to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. their. She's. She's. She's. She's like, I I I I I their. She's like, I I. She's like, I their. She's like, I I. She's like, I I I, I, I, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, they, like, like, the they, like, like, they, they, like, they, like, like, like, what I mean? It's not like they kick off with you not liking her and then she becomes a better mother and a better person and you like her by the end.
Starting point is 00:09:09 She says shitty. Right. I just, eh, whatever. Which is also true to the book and the original movie. They're like, it's all shitty moms across the board. thi thii. It just isn't very good. Yeah. Were you bum that the girl who dies first is named Katie? Oh, eh. No affinity for other Katie's.
Starting point is 00:09:29 You know, Rachel really loves Kirkland University. Yeah, wearing the shit out of those shirts. I did some quick internet research on Kirkland University. It's in Kirkland Washington. Their mascot is the red-breasted tit thrush. No it is not. Their journalism and video video video video video video the top in the country. Oh, I guess that's probably what it was picked for this movie, huh?
Starting point is 00:09:49 They annually outsell other schools in ladies' sleep sweaters, which seem to be what she was wearing all the time. Interesting. And you'll appreciate this. Polly Shure graduated from Kirkland, uh, Mag, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, that, uh, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's that's that's, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's probably that's probably that's probably that's probably that's probably that's probably that's probably that's that's that's that's that's 11.5 minutes into the podcast to stick that in there. That's really good. That was the long cut. There is no curriculum university. Oh my facts were made up. I believe it, especially when you said the journalism and video stuff program. That seemed real.
Starting point is 00:10:25 God, I hate myself. No. No, don't hate yourself, love me! Love you. No, that was great. The red-breasted tip-the-rush. I believed it. I believed it.
Starting point is 00:10:37 I'm glad. If Stanford can have that fucking tree, you know what I mean? That's good. Thank you. April Fools. I never write bits. No, that was a good bit. I'm glad you wrote it down. You read it.
Starting point is 00:10:55 Top important question. Oh yeah. Is there really such a thing as a red-breasted tit thrush? No, no, I made that up. God damn it. Fine. I usually go with red breasted tits swallow but I figured I'm threw thrush in there. Thrush was more believable I feel. Rachel's a journalist. Rachel's a journalist and her niece
Starting point is 00:11:15 is the girl that we saw die at the beginning. Right. So she starts researching her niece's death because the same night her niece died, everybody else was in the cabin with her died. Her secret boyfriend and two of his friends. They all died in separate incidents, except the friends I think were in a car accident together. But it seems like the police should have stuck this together, don't you think? Like it was weird to me that her friends at the wake were so willing to tell Rachel about her secret boyfriend but not the police... the police. the police. the police. I I I I I I I the police. the police. the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thea. thea. thea. thea. theateatea. thea. their their their their their their their their their their their the both fucking dead. Well I doubt that the cops rolled up when these two girls were outside smoking, too new teenage girls and Rachel was pretty cool and she said I remember back in my day we used to sneak up to my room and get high. It was so uncomfortable. Wasn't that so? That's a good proof of like, I feel I've discussed this before thi. thi that that's like like that's like that's like like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's like that's thi, that's thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the, I've the, I've like, I've like, I've thi, thi, I've thin, thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thin, their the get you everything. Like that was still super weird and uncomfortable, you know.
Starting point is 00:12:07 Also that guy was on teen drama, the OC. That's all I wanted to say. This was 2002 was like the height of the male Lego hair. Yeah. All the dudes had that like hair that even stick right on top of your head. Pretty good. Pretty great. This would have been your head. Pretty good. Pretty good. Pretty good. Pretty great. This would have been your heyday, so yeah, I was like a sophomore in college. Yeah. Yeah, I was pretty into dudes with Lego hair. I feel like every dude in like a faux pop punk band had that haircut. Yeah, that was pretty much my scene. So Rachel finds that photo stub in, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:42 It's like the whole movie hinges on her finding that photo stub. It does. It does. It tucked into like the folder of a trapper keeper. Yeah. Yeah. So she finds these photos that indicate that her niece had been at this cabin with her friends and their faces are all fucked up.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Right. Somebody had the smudge tool and just smudged up all their face. I was like, that is the least like, why, why that? And the photo of the four of them in front of the cabin, who took it? What? I know, Samaritan. What? What? One reason that I was excited about doing this movie is that, I'm following this Twitter account that basically just spoofs Donald Trump on a conference call line with like Paul Ryan and Mike Pence and just like all of his Chris
Starting point is 00:13:29 Christie all this and it keeps positing the theory that like all night on Thursday nights Donald Trump just watches the ring on repeat I don't know why. So I was like real excited to talk about this movie because I just imagined and like there's one tweet where like Paul Ryan's like, like Donald it's Thursday I thought you're supposed to be watching the ring and Donald Trump's like, oh, I've got baron watching it. He's like he's too young for that. Donald Trump's like yeah, I really messed him up. So if it's been enough for Donald Trump, it's good enough for me, I guess. In a... so she goes to the cabin and has a really awkward interaction with the guy who runs
Starting point is 00:14:10 the cabins and it's mostly on her. The guy who looks like grown-up beavis? Because he does. I thought he looked like Brian from wings. Oh, god damn that I'm a guy named Les posted on Facebook today that the it audible dot com version is read by Stephen Weber Brian from wings? Yes, that's so great I can't wait to buy that. I was wondering how soon you were gonna be I will. I've never purchased an audible book from audible bucks. Will his Georgie be better than mine? No No, no, but I don't know if I want to hear Brian from wings talking about sexy shit. Oh, is he gonna you think I'll do it's gonna be the book? Yeah, I've got sex with 12 year olds BAP-B!
Starting point is 00:14:49 Brian, call Joe, get him to take your flight. Where's Helen when you need her? I assume these are people from Wang's. No, different show. Yeah, it's pretty great. Pretty great show. So she finds the video tape, it's just on a shelf, just sitting on a shelf. She grabs the videotape. Yeah, she knows it because it's not in a case like the other ones. And unlabeled. Yeah, they brought it back, apparently when they checked out. But they didn't check out. Yeah, I guess grown-up Bevis Brian from Wings had gone, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, th. their their their th. th. th. th. th. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, their, their's, their's their's their's their their, th. th. th. thi. te. toge. toge. toge. tipe. tipe. tipe. tipe. th. th. th. their their th. It Bevis Spryne from Wings had gone in there and taken it back back and also he's like this is a good one and got to put it back on the shelf. It's just everything that leads to her getting the information is completely inexplicable. Yeah, you know, for sure. And it's it doesn't have to be. You could write this where things make sense and could happen in a real world setting. I will say it didn't feel as inexplicable in either other versions, the book or the other
Starting point is 00:15:47 movie. So this movie just fucked, monkey fucked football. This is the guy who directed like some, like the latter Pirates of the Caribbean movies and that kind of thing. Like that's what's on his roster. Strange. Gorbadol, right? Yeah, Gorbadol. Always a good Gorbadol joke.
Starting point is 00:16:07 So, she watches the video. Is this a cautionary tale about not sitting so close to the television? Is this what your parents were worrying about? And then I was like, remember static? Static? Static isn't a thing anymore, is it? So static is basically gone. Yeah. Weird.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Weird. Also like, I would say 35% of this movie is just like tapes being pushed into VCRs and also like tape technology, like people pushing, pushing buttons to look at the edges of tapes and printing, a lot of printing out of things from tapes. Just like, if you like VHS, you're gonna love this. Where th, where th, where th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. th. to, to, th. to, thi, thi. to, to, like, to, tape, tapes, tapes, tapes, tapes, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, th. to, th. to, to, th. to, to, th. th. th. th. to, th. the. the. the. th. th. th. thapes, if you like VHS, you're gonna love this. Where do you come on down on lingering shots on phones ringing? Oh, you know what? I think it's super compelling. There's a lot of that in this movie, and you're gonna enjoy them. And this, these aren't phones with like caller ID where you can be like, uh-oh, what's gonna, no, it's just a fucking ringing phone. From the grave. From beyond. The VHS is like pretty scary I guess. Yeah, yeah. I mean
Starting point is 00:17:07 there's a lot of like but it's a lot of spooky stuff like there's that gross thing with a fingernail that gets popped off of the nail and there's the woman combing her hair which is always terrifying. See this is where okay let me get into this now I saw this movie around the time that it came out I didn't see in the theaters in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in theaters... the the theaters. I was in in in theaters. I was in the the the the the the the the the the the the. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. the the the the the the the. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm. th. th. the. the. th. th. the. the. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. the time that it came out. I didn't see it in theaters, but I saw it shortly thereafter. And I was terrified of that woman. Sure. Terrified. I mean, like, in my, and I hadn't really seen this movie since probably, like maybe once or twice.
Starting point is 00:17:35 You're more a fan of the sequel. Sure, got it from a video. I remember her in my friend Dan's house as parents house and his mom had all these like old photos of their family like vintage black and white photos okay and I remember being really afraid of them because they looked like yeah yeah the woman from the ring and I remember being like I'm not going in your fucking dining room no it's full of ring ladies and I watched it now and I was you dummy. And then it just really made me think about like,
Starting point is 00:18:07 things I thought were good. Do you know what I mean? I do. It wasn't scary. I remember, I mean, like, to the extent to which I was afraid was extreme. Yeah. Like, didn't want to turn the lights out. That's so dumb. No, but you were also 14 years younger than you are right now. Yeah, but where did I... This is the scare dragon thing I guess.
Starting point is 00:18:28 Oh yeah, I just lost it and it's like this is, I just got real bummed out. But this is also the second time you're saying this. Who knows if... Probably more than that, thiii. to the stop doing this. Well, yeah, you're not setting yourself up to be spooked. No, I gotta do better. And you should have watched an office killer in your office. I should have. I watched that in my living room, which was stupid.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Living room killer. It's Glenn. There is a lot of living room murder in that movie. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I guess? I don't know. It's a great concept that they didn't come up with, so let's not credit them with it. I feel like the original one, I hate to keep going this and comparing and contrasting, but I feel like the original one wasn't so heavily based on CDI.
Starting point is 00:19:11 There's a lot of CDI in the 2002 one. Like the ladder falling is obviously C. the latter, it's in the next scene. But yeah, so they watched this video. I wanted to ask you in a post-Yutube world, would this video be scary? See, I don't know. This movie really made me question a lot of things about what's scary and what I know and what I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:38 So it's giving me an existential crisis on some level. So that's something. Um, so she, she runs away with the video, runs away screaming. Yeah. Why did she watch it in the cabin where her niece had watched it? She's got to know. I just find her very... She's maddening in the show the decisions that, like, later on she makes some decisions that I'm just like, I hate you so much. So she goes and meets with her friend Noah.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Film boyfriend, he's the worst. Also, neither of these people are American and they're doing great American accents. Their names are Noah and Rachel, which I have the note that's the whitest, 90s name you could give anybody. Yeah, or as biblical as it gets. Oh yeah, that's true too. It's short of being Adam and Eve. Or God. Hi, I'm God. How are you doing?
Starting point is 00:20:27 Can you name a kid God? I don't think so. You think the state will kick that back? Yeah. But I'd ask asking for a friend. Noah's pretty cool though. No, I hate Noah. Do you know how I know. I have a note about his Pennywise sticker.
Starting point is 00:20:47 And I think a descendant sticker, which I was like, all right, that's cool. So we had Epitaph was like, do you guys want some stickers? And they were like, yeah, yeah, we're in Seattle. Were you ever refused to thrown? to their album the shape of punk to come Yeah, yeah has the worst opening line you've ever heard in a record say it to me. I've got a bone to pick with capitalism and a few to break. Stupid. That's like I just rubbed me the wrong way every time I hear it. I just imagined Propagandi rolling their eyes. I also imagine propaganda thu. I also imagine propaganda. I thi. I thine thine. I thine the thine the thine thi the the thi the thi thi thi the thi thi thi thi the thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've whom I love having a thesaurus at the ready for the lyric sheets. And also being like, we're Canadian, what fucking difference does it make?
Starting point is 00:21:29 We've got it made! They've a great song about questioning why the national anthem is played before hockey games, which I love. Like, it's really odd. Like, you just combine politics and your love of hockey. I love this. I love the Canadian National Anthem though. Yeah, it's so pretty. And it's short, it gets in and out. America's like, oh, drag and on.
Starting point is 00:21:46 On, yeah. Just track on. On and on. We're with you, Colin Kaepernick, I guess. Is that the guy who sat down? Yeah, it's a guy. Yeah, sit down. I'll put public school.
Starting point is 00:22:05 Never gave a shit. Valid. I went to public school in a place where people have Confederate flag license plates, which ironically makes them more patriotic. I hate this country so much. I love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:18 You guys live above the Mason. Yeah, way above it. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. thi. tho. thi. thi. thi. tho. tho. the the tho. the thoge. thoge. thoge. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's supposed to show that he's like, he's sort of like, he's got an arrested development issue. He hasn't grown up. Sure. He's still listening to these punk rock bands. I'm still listening to the descendants every day. Is that okay?
Starting point is 00:22:37 Yes or no? It's fine. I listen to the mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis mis misfits the misfits the misfits misfits the misfits the misfits the misfits the misfits the misfits the misfits the misfits the misfits constantly and I'm 42 years old. Our lives are just, what are we doing? We're an arrested development. It's fine, I'm good with it. Can I tell you the next note I have after a film boyfriend sucks? Go, let's see if we're gonna match up here. This isn't, well I doubt it, because this is, this is a big spoiler.
Starting point is 00:22:56 I just remember that making a copy ends the curse, What? Spoil, spoil, spoil, spoil. What, what, what, what? But it's such a existential fuck you, that whole thing, like it's a, like, the morality that goes into that, it's just insane. And it ends on that, the last line, but yeah, we can get into that. A lot of staring at phones. There's also, um, the scene where we have yet to meet film boyfriend, but he like stops the child on the street and they look at each other? Yeah. What? And then they just both walk away without saying anything? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Why is a child by himself? Because his mother is a deadbeat. I hate her. I hate her. So many of my notes are just I hate her about how much I hate her. Yeah. I mean, I mean, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and th, and the, and the, and th, and the, and the, and the, and th, and th, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and th, and th, and th, and th. tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, and th. And th, and defensible and like the way she has portrayed just makes her completely indefensible. Yeah. And she's like touching his video equipment right after she's like asked him to show her, you know what I mean? Right. And that's like their hint is a way of being like they argued a lot when they were together. Yeah. And then later like eight scenes later when she goes our son. was like, is that supposed to be a reveal?
Starting point is 00:24:05 Like, we all knew it. We knew it. Why else would he be staring at him on the street like a pervert? I really like when they're watching the tape and they start to notice that the, when the tracking is fucked up and you can like bend it over and see more stuff. I really like that reveal. Yeah, that, that, that, that, that, th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We th. We'll the the the the the the the the the the the the to the the to to the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the. Yeah, that's a really cool concept. Yeah. It's like just the lighthouses. The lighthouses over there. Yeah, which is another thing that, good thing she found it. Also, like, she finds the same picture in a book called,
Starting point is 00:24:34 Lighthouses of America. Yeah. And I was like, good thing that lighthouse is in Americ. thi thii. up and it's in Seattle and I was like good thing that Lado's is local like come on. This has such a it's such a good period of like library use roles in Cal of Cuth. Yeah it's just and she's printing everything I love research montages I guess. I love the machine that prints from watching a video I was like can I have that machine you know just make stills and hang them all over my house. Yeah, that is cool. So at this point in the movie it stops being dumb luck that she finds everything and it is just like
Starting point is 00:25:06 she's actually oh you're actually good at research you're actually good at finding. But she's also doing things like circling Anna Morgan's head in a photo from the newspaper like why you'll remember that's her. Also she is so poorly phot to make this photo? This woman is in the movie. Get some fucking extras. Get your moms in here. Like, what?
Starting point is 00:25:32 So the next note I have is she goes to visit Becca in the insane asylum, who has to be walked around with a sheet on a stand so she can't see anything. Why though? Because TV scare her now? But she the the the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th at th at that she that she thathe thathea that thatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheatheat. thus. thus. thus. thus. thus. thus. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, the thoo thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Why though? Because TV scare her. Now. But she didn't see the video. Yeah, but she knows that like the TV was revolving around it or something. But also how is she like a fucking fortune teller? She's like four days. How the fuck does Becca know that? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:25:56 It's just this weird thing of. Oh, I wonder if because, well, did Aidan get his psychic skills by being, because he was best friends with Katie. Yeah. Did Katie imbue him and Becca with this information by having such like a strong psychic connection to the video? I don't know because she like told him that she thought she was going to die, but not her best friend. But she held everything for Becca, thi thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Well, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, th. Did, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. Did, thi. Did, thi. Did, thi. Did, thi. Did, thi. Did, thi. Did, thi, thi, thi, to die, but not her best friend. Which I find hard to believe that you... But she held everything for Becca. Vecca didn't know about the fuck weekend.
Starting point is 00:26:27 True. That doesn't make any sense to me. No, you tell a friend about a fuck weekend. And you don't tell like your seven-year-old cousin that you're in charge of that you How was your weekend? Well, I was with my fuck buddy. He looks like he's been on a bender for a while too. He's just stunned. He's just stunned by a bright light at all times. So there is a... Sure he's not a Colkin.
Starting point is 00:26:54 He's not a tellago figure come to life, though. He's just like perfectly proportion little Lego head. His eyes are so round and weird. I'm sorry we're talking about a child's appearance here but like... Oh he's a very handsome young man but sure. This is my favorite line in the movie? Yeah. Rachel says to Becca in the insane asylum she says I want to know how Katie died and Becca says you will. She'll show you. And I was like whoa that's awesome. Yeah that's really cool. That like gives me like the goosey pimples. Like that's that's that's that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a that's a good. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. I. I. I's a th. I's a thi. I's a thi. I's the. I's the. I's very the. I's very the. I's very th. I's very. That's really cool. That gives me the goosey pimples. Like, that's a good little line there. Yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:27:28 It's, I feel like you delivered it better than she did. I know. Because when you said it, I was like, well, that's good. But when she said it, I didn't. I didn't. Weird. Red-breasted-tit thrush. She's a big fan of those. RBT's.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Speaking of things people are wearing, why are all of Naomi Watts's pants too short in this movie? She's wearing two raining. Oh, God. It's a practical purpose. You're right. Okay. I did not notice then. They're all too short. I was too busy, like, is she got a Kirkland thing on?
Starting point is 00:28:08 Kirkland? Kirkland? Kirkland? Oh, so she finds out that like all the horses on the island, like, the thanks? Like, theyrown, like, the too' the all the dead horses on the beach. Oh I love the image of dead horses. Katie. What? You just said it was really good. I'm agreeing with you. I'm like yeah sure it's in a creepy way. Not in a way of vindication at all. Can we talk about the cashier? When Noah goes to buy cigarettes? Oh yeah. My cousin died from lung cancer. You don't fucking do this to somebody. Especially if they're patronizing your store.
Starting point is 00:28:45 He's just spending all that money there. They've got to be like seven or eight bucks a back now, right? Oh my god, yeah, I think so. I think we taxed them pretty heavily here in Pennsylvania too, so I think it's even more. When I smoked, you could buy it with a dollar, paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper paper, Should I pap up right now? Nope. The first pack of cigarettes I ever bought, granted I was 12, was 98 cents. What brand was it? Um, Marbles.
Starting point is 00:29:08 Wow, name brand. I didn't even smoke in those, uh, wavets. This is after I had stopped, uh, like, just stealing cigarettes from family members and stuff and I just started buying my own because the guy at 7-Eleven the thi. . No, no fuck's given. And there was a cigarette vending machine in the local pizza place that we would go to with like just a pocket full of change. Yeah. It's weird to me that there are still cigarette vending machines in places. Are there? Yeah, bars. I didn't see one forever. I was just in... Oh God, a bar down to the tour. Uh, the bars. today. Uh, they's. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the th. the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. ti. the. the the the. the. Still bars and bitswere where you can smoke too. Oh yeah, well, let's live your life.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Yeah, but I'm trying to live mine too. No, no, just me. No, I just miss smoking. I was wondering if all the smoking in this was getting to you or not. You know what? Not really. You're just like the string? Uh, that's really good. And coughing up anything is always super gross.
Starting point is 00:30:06 And when you have to keep pulling it and point, oh, it's so good. Just the thought of that rubbing against my trot. It was so good. So gross, yeah. This is after we see the child, watch the tape. Yeah. Can we talk about how fucking irresponsible it is she left left that she. tape lying around, he's a child. And a precocious, like highly intelligent, gonna, gonna find this tape child. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:27 It's like, I mean, if you honestly believe that it kills people and you think it's going to kill you, it's a gun. You just left a gun on the coffee table. Like, fuck you, lady. You don't deserve this child. She's terrible. in and taken him away. I refer to him in my nose only as the unloved child. How about when Noah is talking to him and he was like, you know, I'm your dad. Yeah, I know. I just didn't think I'd be a good dad probably because mine wasn't he's like, mm-hmm. Yeah. Turns out you're not. Turns out you're not. I have the note you spoke to the child. I have the note you spoke to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the you you the you the you I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I'm the the the the the the the the the you the you you you're the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the that you the that you th. Starting point is 00:31:05 I have the note Noah seems like a real douchnozzle. So she takes the fairy. Okay, fairies are weird and scary. Oh, I like a fairy. I've never been on a fairy. It's like going on an adventure. Yeah, yeah. Vancouver Island and we saw a killer whale and I was like, whoa I just won! Wow you did win. Yeah. I can't think of anywhere on earth that I would go and as a fairy. Really I only go to ferries in Canada because I took one from
Starting point is 00:31:32 Maine to Halifax too. Interesting. Is this just are you crossing borders illegally somehow with this fairy? So she takes the fairy. She's got her her loose folder with all of her papers in it that she's holding over the side of the fair and he was driving me insane while she's looking at it. She's stupid. And so there's a horse trailer on this on this ferry. So she goes up to say hello to the horse as you want to do, hey horse. And she sticks her hand in and spooks the horse. Do not fucking stick your hand. th. And it it it. th. the horse. the horse. the horse. the horse. the horse. the horse. the horse. the horse. the the the the th. the the the th. the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. thooooom. And so the thooom. th. th. th. th. th. And so th. And so she's. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. And so. the. And so. the the the t. t. t. t. t. too. too. too's. too's. t. too. the the too. the the the the the oh man, I spook the horse, I will walk away now. Yeah. She sticks her hand in again and spooks the horse more.
Starting point is 00:32:08 And again. And then just keep sticking your hand and going, I'm not going to hurt you. Yeah. Which is what only what people say who are about to hurt you. First of all, like, you know I'm not on that horse was wrong. No, not at all. This nightmare lady sticking her hands at you. It's just one of the, this is like one of many inexplicable things that she does where you're like, no person would do this. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:32:31 And it just keeps getting worse from this point. And she's almost like trying to prove something like, oh his way out of the trailer, and then is CG-high running around the boat. Yeah. And that's scary. It's really sad. Like, I was like, I'm gonna cry because that horse is losing its mind. It's making me super sad right now.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Yeah. These people are chasing it with ropes. And it leaps over the side of the boat. There's the scene, the shot though where it's charging right at the camera. My heart just started like beating faster thinking about it. Oh yeah. That is very scary. This is the height of the scariness of this movie and the upsettingness and the sadness and just like it all culminates. It all culminates in this scene.
Starting point is 00:33:19 It smashes into the side of the boat. Yeah, and it's winning and crying as it's like get drowning in the water. And then... That blood? It gets chopped up in the fucking motor of the boat and shoots blood out of the back. And I was like, did you have to? Did you have to show me that? Yeah. I guess so.
Starting point is 00:33:34 I guess so. I mean, I guess, that's why the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, I, I, I, the, the, I, I, I, I, I, the, the, the, the, the, it's, it's. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the to, to-f-fo-fo-fo-fo-fo-fo-fo-fo-foaugh-fo-fo-fo-fo-fo-fo-y. It's dead now. And then the horn of the fairy blows as the scene cuts. Oh, who is blowing the horn? Nailed it. Got that fucker. Why? Third one this week, burb. Why? Oh, it was, the boat was called horse murder.
Starting point is 00:33:58 Oh, you got to kill a horse. It's the sacrifice needed to get to the end of the world. Man, it's so... Which is an island off the coast of Washington. Or whatever. In the bay, I'm not actually sure. The next note I have is jerk off, and I'm not quite sure why. Because here, I have a similar note. Okay, so she is on the ferry the ferry the ferry the ferry the ferry the ferry th fairy thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thory thi th island to see the Morgan's horse farm. He... Or farm and horses. Ranch. Horse farm. No I think they call it a fucking horse farm.
Starting point is 00:34:32 Probably, probably. I'm sorry. The horse farm just struck me funny. It's a horse farm. Really? Horse farm? Really? Horsfarm? Whatever. He is going to the mental hospital, trying to get the records. And I'm like, who he calls the guy a jerk off as he's breaking in to the basement. But like, who's a jerk off in the situation? The guy protecting HIPAA or the guy with the crowbar? You know what I mean? You were the jerk off, jerk off. And the guy later who is just totally flouting HIPAA, he doesn't give a shit about HIPAA. What do you think? I guess he must have paid him or something. It didn't seem like it did it?
Starting point is 00:35:08 No. It just seemed like he was like, fine, I'll let you watch that. You just can't take it. Yeah. So back on the island, Rachel goes to the horse farm. It's the husband of Anna. I I I I the husband, Brian. the husband, Brian. the husband, Brian. the husband, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thian. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. thi. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It. It's. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like, th. It's like, th. It's like, th. He has more IMDB credits than Jack Pallance by a large margin. Oh, really? As I have noted here in my nose. That's shocking to me. Like, probably double.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Holy shit. Yeah, he had like, I think, I think, double. He has Hannibal. He has Hannibal Lector in a movie. Yeah, so she goes to meet what happened? Just looking at my next note this is I bet they're alphabetized, which I think is just that guy like slamming through all those files. And slamming it like not being like coy. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Fucking dick.
Starting point is 00:35:53 And then no offense man, but what the hell does that mean? What was that? What was that? When she's talking to the doctor, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, like, like, like, like, like, the, like, like, the, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. th the the th the's like when you live on an island and you get a cold it's everybody's cold and she goes no offense man but what the hell does that mean first of all I think it's pretty fucking clear what that means an island is its own little society and everybody touches everybody's lives and don't be so fucking rude to Jane Alexander are are we supposed to assume that like she's just like she's unravelling at point, like mentally because her son is now seeing the video. Our son. Our son.
Starting point is 00:36:28 I mean, I guess so, but like, this woman has been nothing but helpful to you. Yeah, from the jump she was not. And it's a pretty, like, what she said made perfect sense. To me, anyway. Okay, so she goes back to, she finds out, I don't remember what she finds out, it doesn't matter, does it? I guess so. She goes and talks to Brian Cox and he just doesn't want none of it because, well, his family died. And she asks, where's your daughter? And he says, I don't have a daughter? So she asked the doctor about it? Yeah. And the doctor breaks it down and tells her about Samara.
Starting point is 00:37:05 Yeah. And how they adopted her, but she wasn't quite what they expected. Sure. Problem, child, if you will. So then she goes back to Brian Cox's house and it's just rooting through his house. Just fucking walks in and decides to watch his television. Yeah. He has been watching the tape that Noah had been looking for at the hospital. Yeah. Which I'm not sure
Starting point is 00:37:31 what we were supposed to take from that tape. It's an interview tape of the child Samara at the hospital. Right. She doesn't sleep I guess. And it's that paranormal activity scene where the clock is spinning and I was like, hey they fucking told that. What you're supposed to take from it is that she is malevolent as it is revealed later on. But see I feel like later it was supposed to be a twist that she was malevolent. Right because you don't kind of you kind of don't pick it up at first but they ask her like, you know they just want th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi tho th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi thi thi thi thi thi th you know they just want you to stop and she says well I won't. Whatever. So she's back at the house she's watching the video she sees the giant bug that's also in the video which that bug is a long lived bug. And then Brian Cox comes up and smacks her in the goddame face.
Starting point is 00:38:19 This is actually I thought one of the scary scenes in the movie is it kind of there's like sort of a jump th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. the th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to to the. to to to theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. the the. the. the movie is it kind of, there's like sort of a jump scare of Brian Cox behind her, which I was like, that was good. That got me. And it's good because it's the house behind her keeps being lit by the lighthouse. That's on the island. So it's like it's gone light to dark behind. You could really just use like a hair dryer. You don't need all that stuff. There's got to be a gun on that horse farm. Stop saying horse farm if it's wrong. I don't think it's wrong. It just goes it just tickles me. I'm sorry. It's just like just leave him alone lady. the man who's lost everything. I'm gonna. the man. the man's lost. to lost. to lost. to lost. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. There. There. There. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's......... the.......... the. the. the. the. the. the. the. t. t. the. t. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the what's going on though. Yeah. So they eventually, Aiden shows up right after Brian Cox kills him. Not Aden, sorry, Noah shows up right after Brian Cox kills himself.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Yeah. They find the barn where Samara has been kept. They are both climbing on that ladder at once. And I was like, you fucking, the ladder. told, that's where it happened and then walk right back out of the barn because I'm not going to that fucking ladder. Fuck that noise. No, just tell me what's up there.
Starting point is 00:39:30 Describe it to me. I'm a thrown. I'm a thrown. I'm a-I'm a thoof- there and then they went there and they Yeah, yeah, yeah, and they straight trash the place I mean like they have no regard for other people's property honestly like that's what you get with these punk rockers to listen to the refused and penny wise I guess so and then they find a well. Yeah, they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they th they th the the the the the they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the well for that house. It doesn't make any sense. No. Was the house just on stilts? It just has a big basement. Yeah in the cabin chair. And that well is fucking deep. Yeah she falls into it for about 12 minutes and is not injured.
Starting point is 00:40:16 She gets knocked. So there's a tool video that happens while they're looking in the well and all the screws are coming up out of everything and it's like Why was that happening th... th. th. the the the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the well. the. the. the. the. the. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. tool. the. the. the. the. the. the well when all the screws are coming up out of everything. And it was like, mann't, mannant. It was Samara. Why wasn't she doing that all along? Was the floor board stopping her? Yes. I don't know, but she does this Rube Goldberg thing of like, unnailing and unscrewing all these boards and then the TV knocks Naomi the well.
Starting point is 00:40:43 That's a pretty funny. That's th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. the, th. th. th. tho, the, tho, the, tho, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was th. Why th. Why th. Why th. Why th. Why, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was, was th. Why, was th. Why, was th. Why, was th. Why, was th. Why, th. Why, th. Why, was Naomi wants into the well. That's a pretty funny scene though. I liked the TV knocking her in. I thought it was really like, I thought it looked good. You've got all these thinking powers just push for the fuck in. No, use the TV. Like, I thought the TV was supposed to be somehow like symbolic of, you know, the video is what. But, why is any of it fems written here? Oh, took my lovely daughter and I pushed her in a well. Oh, yeah, yeah, country death song? That's a great song.
Starting point is 00:41:14 Yeah. So she's in the bottom of the will. She finds some bunch of wet hair and then... Yeah, wet hair is gross. It's nasty. Yeah. This is at the note, wet hair exclamation point. Yeah. And she gets, she finds, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, s, s, she finds, s, s, s, she finds, s, s, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, she finds, she, she, she, she finds, she, she finds, she finds, toeomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomomom, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. Oh, to. to. to. toe. toe. tooe. tooe. tooe. Oh, tooe. Oh, tooe. Oh, tooom. Oh, tooome. Oh, tooome. Oh, too, too, th. This is the note wet hair exclamation point. Yeah. And she gets a she finds some sorry Samara's body keep one to call her Sampara. Samara's body rises to the top of the water and she holds it and she gets a vision of
Starting point is 00:41:34 what happened. Why? She is like a flashback to a memory she doesn't have. But that's always the way in movies you see way more than... No it means it's the way in movies. She's having a flashback. She like closes her. Samara is giving her that information. Okay, fine. I...
Starting point is 00:41:51 Psychic baby dead child. If this psychic baby dead child is so powerful. Yes, then this is where that falls apart. Why didn't she do everything else? Why does she have to rely on this woman? Yeah, like, ah, Christ. So she sees the exquisitely dressed Anna Morgan. Just like, those Victorian gowns she gives wearing, she looks amazing. Strange, because she didn't live that long ago.
Starting point is 00:42:20 If her husband is like in his 60s, you know what I'm saying? She had no cause to wear those. Maybe it was cosplay. Maybe that was her cause. Fine. I think it was just purely for effect. No, that's fine. Because that's what ghosts wear.
Starting point is 00:42:37 They were in Victorian clothes. You're right. This is an ongoing theme that you've opened my eyes too. Yeah, so she's holding that, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's that's that the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. that's thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. that's that's that you've opened my eyes too. Yeah, so she's holding that skeleton baby now, because all the flesh is falling off. And that made me mad of hers, because I was like, you're a smart lady, you should be weirded out by the body being okay. But I guess magic, dead psychic baby child, or whatever you just said.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Yeah, fine. There's so much in this movie, in stride. Well whatever. Like the fact that when she walks into our newsroom it's full of typewriter sounds even though it's 2002 and there are no typewriters inside. Really bothered me. That's what a newsroom sounds like I need typewriters. So when did Pennywise get here? Georgia. She frees Samara and they called the cops and the cops and the cops takes the the the the the the the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. the the the the their. their. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. How do they even explain this to the cops? Yeah, so we ripped up the floor of grown beavous Brian from Wings's cabin? Beavis from Wings. And just be so we could go down this well. Yeah. I know I fell, but I'm cool now. And I found this body. I had nothing to do with putting it the body thrown. Right? Like, I thi thi nothing. thi nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to to to to to to to do to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be th. B. B. B. B. th. th. th. th. th. B. th. th. th. the. the. the. the the the. the the the the the the the the. the the the. the. the. the. the. the. th under these floorboards, 12 stories down or whatever. No. How do you, and they're like, okay, well you can go home. No problem, they are white people. They are attractive. So that's the end of the movie. It was a good movie. Well, first
Starting point is 00:43:58 they have to go pick up the unloved child who's asleep on the floor. Why is he sleeping on the floor? Why does no one love him? Here's the note I have is here is the unloved child asleep on the floor. God, this button breaks my heart. I have the move, the note, is there a new love connection between Noah and whatever her name is? And that lady. The kid's like, don't you have to be at work? And she's like, not today.
Starting point is 00:44:25 And I was like, don't you ever have to be at work? Like, what have you been fucking doing? He's, the kid might be the only reasonable person in the movie. Oh, for sure. 100% percent. So we go back to Noah's place. And he's just chilling. Oh, he's got all this garbage furniture and then a fucking Eames chair just hanging out,
Starting point is 00:44:45 which are like, what, like $700, $800 for this chair, like, just chilling. Yeah. Yeah, what's he making money at? Video touches? Oh, he's a good, he's a great video toucher. Well, he went to Kirkland. Yeah, then the TV it turns on and then there's a well in the TV and then which throughout the movie the more people that have been watching the video Samara is coming out of the well a little bit more each time. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:17 So this final time she comes straight out of the well and then straight out of the TV screen. We forgot to talk about the fly that she that she that she that she that she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she that she that she that she that she that she that she that she that she that she that she that she that she th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. the. the f. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. So. So. So. So the. So the. We forgot to talk about the fly that she picks off the TV screen. But so that was the first like signifier that thinks could come out of this video. Oh good point. So she comes Samara comes out of the TV and is walking towards him. She looks great on the TV shitty when she gets in the room. Well she's still TV when she's like, because she's like, why isn't she just a flesh and bones thing? I remember this. And she's an old man's face too. Yeah, I remember this frightening me. And then again, it was like, her face. Ugh, you know, ba.
Starting point is 00:45:52 Well, in the Japanese one, when they show the face of Sodako, who's the unforgiven video by Metallica. She looks like she's a little fist of a face man. It ruins it. And also so this is the movie where I decided that when something comes at you you just run over and start kicking the shit out of it but you're gonna die anyway so what's it matter so when she's halfway out start kicking her in the fucking face see what happens. like you gotta gotta try it at least, right? Yeah. Don't just go, oh, I'm gonna fall back in my eames chair. He doesn't even run away. He doesn't even run away.
Starting point is 00:46:31 He should get a real house. Well, he just, he just falls down. He should get a, he should, run away. Well, he's the thr, he's dead, he's dead, he's dead, he's dead, he's dead, he's dead. to, he's dead. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to try, he's try. try. to try, to try, to try, to try, to to to to to try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. try. Yeah, try. Yeah, try. Yeah, try. Yeah, try. Yeah, try. Yeah, try. try. try. try. to. try. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. try. try. to. try. try. try. t they showed briefly later. But like, why was it, why did they do that? Well, they did the same thing with Katie the beginning. You only see her face and their mom's like flashback to it. Do you think it was because it looked shitty? Yeah. Okay. He's just checking. And then she's like, why did he, why did it take him and not me? What did I? thi that he didn't do that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. the. to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. th. th. things that he didn't do. Like you saw Brian Cox die, you broke into his house and then chased him up the stairs, even though he clearly didn't want you there. Like, you killed a horse. You did a lot of fucking things that he didn't do. Maybe. It doesn't kill bad mothers.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Yeah, and then she's like, I made a copy. You fucking thu. He left the apartment and left it for the young girlfriend to find his body. Yeah, that was so fucked up. Yeah, it really was. Also, this is such a like shitty Machiavellian lesson to teach a child, because he's like, what happens to the next person that finds it? And that's the end of the movie. What?
Starting point is 00:47:40 I have the note, as soon as the credit started rolling, the sound of a sound, the sound, started. Yeah. And then that would be what I'm like, oh my Jesus isn't me? Am I calling? Am I calling? Katie. Yeah. I have a question for you. Yeah. You want to move on on that writing face?
Starting point is 00:47:54 Yeah. Let's move on the writing face. Okay. I enjoyed it much more than I did in 2002 when I saw in the theater. Really? I did. Were you more cynical then? Yes. And I was also like, fucking American remakes, fucking bakes, fucking b-ma's.

So I was just like, man, I don't want it. And so this time I sat down and was like, I'm not going to think about the other movie. I'm just going to watch the different the different the different the different th. This th. This is a this. This is a this. Starting point is 00:48:45 It's a six. I'm not gonna talk anybody out of watching it. It's better than a lot of shit that we've watched. Sure. I think if I'd never seen the Japanese one and this was my first encounter with this sort of, it's a unique ghost mythology that these bring. This would be exciting to me. If if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I's thi, thi, I was thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, it's thi, it's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, I's thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, thiiiii's thi's thi, thi, thi, say like 14 and someone was like, dude, you should watch this movie. I'm like, whoa! So six. Like I said, this movie really made me think about things
Starting point is 00:49:14 I've said were good. You know what I mean? Yeah. I feel like the back to back of it and this, it being like a movie I really liked when I was very young and this being a movie I really liked when I was like, you know, my late teens, early 20s. I just feel like I've been so stupid. I just remember. I feel like this is starting into a weird cat Stevens, like looking back on your life. I am. I am looking back at everything. Like, is the show Roseanne even funny?
Starting point is 00:49:44 I've always touted it as being like one of the funniest things ever, and is it really even funny? You know, like, what do I even know? What do I even know? But you have to keep in mind that you are watching these things with different eyes now? There was air quotes, I'm sure you're watching it critically now. Because like like like like like like like like like like like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I.. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. their. their. their. you guys heard this. And like, because you're watching it critically now. You're not watching it for like, woozy, wazzy times. Yeah, I guess you're right. Trademark, trademark on woozy wazzy times.
Starting point is 00:50:10 Yeah, just in case we need that. For our, what was it born again? I guess, you're right. What's a born again? that before I can get that URL. I guess I just feel like maybe you're right, maybe it's watching it critically and being like none of these details make any fucking sense at all that's that's sort of messing me up but it's definitely just not as scary as I remember it being and that just really bumming me out so for bumming me out it gets a five. Oh yeah that's it don't bum me out. God damn it also take care of that child.
