Episode Date: December 27, 2021

Hi EMTs! We hope you've had a wonderful or at least a tolerable holiday season thus far. We're enjoying our week off and are confident (or at least Allen is) that you'll enjoy one of his favorite old ...episodes: Episode 24- "Grabbers." This is a 2012 Irish horror comedy about needing to stay drunk to ward off a bloodsucking creature, so naturally, we got drunk to watch and record. Really drunk. I don't really remember it but Allen thinks it's a goodie, so it must be! We love you all and we'll see you back here next week for our New Year's episode, "Miss Congeniality."

Hopefully. Or something. So if this is the end of the podcast, I guess it happened. I know that we loved you. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:35 And I... All right, we'll be back. We'll be back. Hi, I'm Alan. And I'm here on Wearwolf Ambulance. This is why I don't drink, because when I drink I sound like this. It's very disconcerting. Welcome back EMTs.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Hey. We watched grabbers. We just talked about TLC for like 15 minutes. We just talked about TLC for like 15 minutes, but Alan told me we're going We drank a lot of beers and plum cordial. Plum cordial is a thing. Yeah, we're adults. We drink plum cordial. My voice is going to be more annoying this time around. You're going to be like Tobin Raspy.
Starting point is 00:01:13 No, if I could be Tobin. Tobin has the best voice. Many of you commented on Tobin's sultry voice. She's like a young Kathleen Turner. It's beautiful. It's beautiful and I sound like, I'm like, uh, who's a teen? I won't, I won't hear. I won't hear it. I won't hear it. I just sound like a fucking nerd, all right?
Starting point is 00:01:30 Selena Gomez is she a teen? I sound like if you were like, went to central casting and needed a nerd voice. Well, good thing we do this voicing. So we just watch Grabbers, Irish movie. I'm drunk. Here's the thing. Neither of us really drinks very much so we are like two sip tips but we had more than two sips so we're more than tips and this was a fucking fantastic movie. Oh man. 2012 British Irish film Irish British film Grabbers.
Starting point is 00:02:10 So good. Fucking great. Loved it. Yeah. Not just because I'm drunk. Did I love this movie? I think it might be because I'm drunk, but also I loved it. It was really fun.
Starting point is 00:02:19 This movie was recommended to me by my cousin Krista who is 22 and in college. So she's sort of my touchstone for like what the kids like, you know. I like to go out with her and tell people that I used to wipe her butt. She's not that into it. I think it's pretty hilarious. But she was like you're gonna really love this movie and you should get drunk with these people, get drunk along with them and I was like, all right right, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thr-a, thr-a, thr-s, thr-s, throoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, thi with these people. Get drunk along with them. And I was like, all right, so that's exactly what we did. We put a post out on Instagram today asking people what they thought of, uh, grabbers. And Faust 77 S. Lee 88. Shotgun done.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Nick's Muse. Into that. Sammy Jenkins. Chris Franco 13. Hellgirl 13. A lot of 13's in this one. Bill FX, the last email and Marketie 2 all commented. They love this movie.
Starting point is 00:03:14 Love it. Totally into it. Everybody loves this movie. Yeah. Mike Bukowski, big fan of the podcast, big promoter, love him. My girl Amanda Waltz, who's going to be showing up as a guest probably next week maybe the following week yeah loves it Jim Robinson also a big fan of the podcast also loved it we're just naming people we know now it's like name-dropping but they're just our
Starting point is 00:03:33 friends no but they're also people who have who've biged up the podcast people and also and I want to thank you to thank you by a thi to you and I th I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th th I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the th the th. th. I the the the the the the the the the the the the. the the. the the the the. the. the the. the. I the. I the. I the is universally seemingly loved. Nobody has, um... Five stars on fucking Netflix, man. No, yeah, nobody has said a bad thing about it. You know why? It's really good. It's really good. So the purpose of this is Lovecrafty and Monsters land in, you know, Bumfuck,
Starting point is 00:03:58 Ireland. Can we talk about Ireland for a second? Shhh. You, Ireland, we're about to get real. Ireland. Actually, here's the thing, nobody's listening. Bill F.X. is Irish and had a good time watching this, and yes, he was drinking. Bill F.X. I'm also drinking. So, this movie is not doing a lot to subvert your stereotype.
Starting point is 00:04:24 Very stereotypical. It's just like, hey, Irish people? This movie is not doing a lot to subvert your stereotypes. It's just like, hey Irish people, drinking. But you know what, like if they, like I like movies about Italian people eating, you ever see Fat South Dom Deloese? So good. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I'm just saying way to drive it home. Did you ever see Fat So with Dom Deloese? Oh God, Meets you, Tivarita's Cookbook, eat this, it'll make you feel better?
Starting point is 00:04:46 No. Oh, you should borrow it. Oh, nice. Yeah. I love Dom tollowies. He's no Don Knotts, but he's pretty sweet. No one is like Tom tomorrow. So this is a movie about love-augh, freaking havoc on the small coastal town, which they fight off with alcohol and an Irish wit.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Jim Robinson put it best when he said this movie was Father Ted meets Lovecraft. It's like a really sweet Irish comedy. And the fuck I laugh through the whole thing. It's really funny. Really fun. Doing horror comedy. So good. Very good. And then the horror aspects when there's a few like legit creepy parts in this movie. The CGI is pretty good for CGI. I'm really into it. Better than Lord of the Rings movies. I'll put it out there. Whoa. Although it does use a Lord of the Rings score. It totally steals whatever they're. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the horror. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the th. the th. the the the the the the the the the thorororororororor. the the the the the the thororo. the the the horror. totally steals whatever they had left on the cutting room floor to like sweep across the mountainous ranges of Aaron Island or over there.
Starting point is 00:05:48 That's interesting because I wrote that it sounds, the incidental music sounds like the incidental music in Jaws. It's got a Jaws feel to it. You know it's that nautical horror. Yeah, like Lord of the Rings. You know that scene in Lord of the th they're on the ocean and they're fighting off that creature? Oh.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Wait. When the elves are leaving Middle Earth? Yeah and then that huge like, um, Vampire Squid comes up out of the ocean and attacks, uh, legulis? If you guys don't know about vampire squid, they are referenced in this movie and we will post a picture of them because they're fucking terrifying. They are real, they are horror. This is why I don't go in the ocean. Yeah, I mean this movie beautifully exemplifies why I and Lovecraft feared the ocean. I swim in the ocean. I love the ocean. I swim in it all the time. I fucking love it. I grew up on the east coast. No. I grew up in what in what in the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I th. I th. I'm beautiful th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I the the the the the the the the the the the ocean. I the ocean. I the ocean. I the ocean. I the ocean. I the ocean. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. th. th. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th East Coast. No. I grew up in what the hell? Where? I don't get in that goddamn river. Yeah, that's because the river is polluted with steel slag.
Starting point is 00:06:48 You can eat two fish from it a year safely, according to the Allegheny County game commission. No, it's horror. It's horror. Everything that lives in theirs. The gist of this movie is you follow the story of a young female cop. Most beautiful skin I've ever seen. Oh gorgeous. Oh my god what the fuck it's not fair. Lisa Nolan is the name of the man. I just would skin her face and wear it on my face. and she has come to Aaron Island to
Starting point is 00:07:26 Is that a real place? Yeah, it's right here. That is just a word document you pointed at that's not a thing. It's an evernote. And she has come to Aaron Island to take a vacation from being in Dublin where they have rapes and murders and drug dealers and yeah and so she has taken her vacation to be a cop on this island where nothing's gonna happen with Jeff from coupling. That is Karen O'Shea? Yes. Is the name of his character? He um I my first notes is a Jeff from coupling really has not aged and then quickly oh wait maybe yes he has. But he was hilarious and this is, his comedic timing was perfect, spot on. My first notice that we had
Starting point is 00:08:11 to watch this movie with subtitles. Actually yeah, I mean then my second note says loud or squishing because they really drove the subtitles home in this. They were like telling you every goddamn thing that happened. There was a great thing in the subtitles where someone said, oh shit, followed by loud squishing, and that made me giggle for a real long time. Because I'm 41 years old. Yeah. Yeah. I was far away from it.
Starting point is 00:08:35 So we follow, the film starts out with some lobster men out at sea. And you watch, you're actually out in the ether of space, and you're watching a meteor, zoom, tham, tham, to to zoom, to zoom, to to zoom, to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the their tooom, their their their tooom, tooom, too out in the sort of ether of space and you're watching a meteor Zoom into Ireland. And as it smashes into the ocean, these lobstermen see it, and they're calling it in as an emergency flare, which are going to go check on. And as they go to check on it, one of the lobstermen is ripped off the boat. And it's done this in this really great. Oh, excuse me, I'm sorry. It's done in this really great.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Look. They're not showing you anything at this point. No, it's totally blind. Which is great. Yeah. It's your 20 minutes in before you see any. Yeah. Which will really work both tho.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Yeah, I thought. Yeah, if you're gonna have CGI monsters, don't show me them right out of it. And so, uh, so there's a monster, there's a lobster man ripped off the boat, and then three more killed in succession. And it's all died? Yeah. Oh, I miss that. Oh, that's sad. Oh.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Uh, It's really, uh, and the, and the, and the, and the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there's, there, there, there's, there's, there's, there's, there's, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, the, th....... There, th.... There, th... There, th. There, th. There, th. There, th. There, th. th. th. There, th. th.. There's, th. th. th. There's, th. There's, th. There's, th. There's, th. There's, th. There's, th. There, there,, there's no gore or anything. It's just, it's all implied. I didn't even see him die. Everything is implied. And then you pick up with Lisa Nolan, the cop showing up in town on this ferry with this very ethereal as Katie reference, Lord of the Rings style music playing. Yeah. It doesn't drop into the Jaws music until they're showing some oceanic scenes. So, later, a few minutes later we see this guy that I have written down as Irish Danny DeVito, which he later learned is Jim, the doctor in town.
Starting point is 00:10:11 He is taking a walk with his dogs on the beach when he comes upon some pilot whales. Yeah. That have been killed by something. Dead on the beach. Yeah, to which are juggeared scientists. Russell Toby. Yeah, of becoming animal and Doctor Who. Here's an episode of Sherlock. The Hound of the Bascar Vils.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Yeah, yeah. Did I say Hound of the Baskervilles? You actually said, Ha ha ha, bah. So he comes up and says that these, uh, these whales died at sea, and this is pretty, he's a terrible scientist. Not uncommon. . they they they they they they they they they they th th th th terrible scientist. Not uncommon, they were ripped apart on the rocks. It doesn't make any sense. All of the ones, they like. Well, that's what, that's what a, Detective O'Shea, or don't.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Officer O'Shea, it's like, oh, so all at once, huh? And it gets his drunken mind swirling. We established very early on he's an alcoholic. Yeah, always hea. hea play later. Yes. Well, everything is drunk. Everything is drunk.com. I will take this moment to point out that you should go to Team Google.com because Justin Gray, the guy who did our logo, our fantastic logo, is doing posters for the live shows from my brother, my brother and me and they are unfucking believable. He is so talented. He's so good. The fact that we have the same artist as them blows my mind. I've known Justin for well over 10 years
Starting point is 00:11:35 and I love him to death and I'm so honored that he like was stoked to do our logo. Great great. Oh man, his in in those adventure zone, oh it's so good. So please go to Teen Google.com, pick up Justin's posters. Yeah, support Justin. Oh man, awesome. Like the fact that there's crossover there a little bit between the two podcasts, I'm really stoked on. They don't know it, we know it. No, I would love to have any of them on the podcast. They don't, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their love to have any of them on the podcast. They don't, they're, am I drunk? I haven't said a useful thing yet. Where are we? Are we talking about it? So we sort of follow the trail. There's a couple fishermen who pick up lobster pots that have,
Starting point is 00:12:22 one of the lobster pots has one of these grabbers in it. Yeah this guy's name is Patty right and which seems like a slur but I guess isn't. And he is pretty much the best character in the movie. Right. He's hilarious and the other guy who picks up the his assistant is a tach T-a-d-g-h T-a-d-h-t-d-h-t-d-t-d-t-d-t-d-t td-t td h td T-d-h t td td td tv you're right h'g H g to be together the
Starting point is 00:13:09 lobster pot it it gawks on them yeah it pisses in gogg in Todd's face is it is Todd how you say that I think so Todd's cool and from that it moves to Patty taking the lobster pot home and putting in the bathtub. Obviously you're going to put this monster in your bathtub. Where else you're going to keep it? If you're going to have a sea monster, where are you going to put it? Bathtobub? Obs. I can't believe we're doing a rundown of this plot in this movie.
Starting point is 00:13:35 I remember nothing past this movie. Sure. Drunked man in a welding mask. Got it. So Patty survives his tech unscathed. He takes the the the grabber home, which he has named it, puts it in the bathtub, takes it to ruffle with ruffled to be. is examining the grabber. Yeah. And she's like pretty disgusted by him at this point. She's like, this guy is a drunk and he doesn't take his job. Right, Nolan is disgusted with O'Shea at this time. But you can tell, like, they're totally going to make out at some point. And Patty has brought this thing to O'Shea's notice when they were at the bar drinking was sort of a fisherman's tail. Yeah and
Starting point is 00:14:28 he didn't believe it at all. Right so they they they take it to Smith and it's already attacked Patty at this point. It's like sort of a alien style like face grabber. And it's like it's like it's like it, um, in the corner of sort of the ceiling in the wall. Yeah, it looks fantastic. It's so awesome. It's so scary. It's so scary. I just wrote, oh, I love the grabber, exclamation point.
Starting point is 00:14:51 Exclamation point. And this is when they make the, uh, Yeah. One, you know. No, no, no, no. So they sort of, they surmise that after Officer O'Shea is attacked by this thing and is able to rip it off him. He's the town drunk, or he's the drunk police officer, who earlier in the movie, they're like 12 people in this town, so he can really be both. Well, when Lisa Nolan is brought in by O'Shea Superior,
Starting point is 00:15:34 O'Shea asked him why he needs to be there, and O'Shea Superior basically says, because you can't do your job, to which I put the note in, Fire and Copping in Cops, Ireland. Yeah, like why is this man still have a job? He is drunk all of the time. If I was drunk all of the time, I don't think I would have a job. No. I barely am having a job on this podcast being drunk, and I don't getto survive this attack and why O'Shea was able to survive his attack is because they both had high alcohol contents.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Yeah. So they, there's an egg and they realize that this egg could not be fertilized by the small creature that hangs onto people's faces. Hugs on to people's faces. Hugs. Hugs. So they surmise that there's a larger creature out there. A male. And they go hunting this larger male. And they find it and it's huge and it's terrifying and... It has the greatest movement though of like any monster I've seen in a movie recently, it rolls. It doesn't like creep on its tentacles, it doesn't run at you, it rolls like head over heels, it has neither
Starting point is 00:16:49 head nor heels, but it rolls and I love it. Right, for you D&D nerds, I said that it is a good mobility mechanic. Actually I think I said that and you wrote it down. Sir. Well you weren't writing at this point. No, I put, I, well, the pencil was in my hand, but like it wasn't doing anything. So it really has this interesting, like, just, yeah, it just rolls ass over kettle at people. Like, I don't know anything about CGI. Like, let's be real. I don't know anything about CGI. We're getting, let me, let me do some real talk.
Starting point is 00:17:17 to thi. I know we have some we have some friends who are very critical of things like CGI quality. It always looks good to me. Oh yeah. I thought it looked great in this. I thought it looked so good. I think we've reached an era of CGI where like low budget can do it really, the try. Yeah, low budget can do it really well. Yeah, I think that's really a possibility.
Starting point is 00:17:38 It was so good. It looks looks so good th so good th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tho. tho. tho. tho tho tho tho that that. tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho that. I that. I that. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. I th. th. that that that that that. I that. the. the. the. tho. the. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. the. tho. lot of really good practical effects in this movie too. Yeah, hand puppets and shit. Yeah, which was like, if you combine the two, I think you're really gonna, you're really gonna excel. Yeah. Like that sort of Guillermo, Guillermo, Guillermo, Gilles, the egg, and the grabbers go to the bauntical. Yeah. So, I'm trying to remember where we were. So, um sorry, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, um, the the they, they, they, which they, which they, which I, which I, which I, which I, if they, if they, if they, if they, if the, if the, if the, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if, if if, if you, if if you, if if if if you, if if if if if, if if, if if if if if, if if if if if, if, if if if, if if if if, if the, if the, if they, if they, if they, if the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they, I, I they, I the, the, I the, the, the, the, I the, th. th is going to fertilize the egg and the grabbers go to the bones on. And they try to like have sex with people's faces generally. Right, alien style, yeah, they're trying to suck the blood out of people so that they can then nourish the eggs with that. There's a scene that we missed earlier today. Todd and his wife. Todd. Todd and their. Todd and his. Tod and his. Tod and his wife and his wife and his wife. Tod and his wife. Tod and his wife. I I I I I's. Tod and his wife. Tod and his wife. T. T. T. T. T. I's. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. I their. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. I. S. S. S. I. T. S. S. T. I. I. T Irish people. They're not listening. We only have four downloads from Ireland. I'm sorry people who are familiar with Gaelic. I'm terrible pronouncing those words. So we see that Todd and his wife are watching the television
Starting point is 00:18:37 and they're watching a living dead, which I thought was good. Oh, so good. They're coming for you, Barbara. It was that scene, which is so... Probably the most terrifying sterterter movie. The most terrifying scene was really sweet. And then they get a knock on the front door, and it's a guy that you meet earlier in the movie who is being sort of dangled in front of the front door. Why was he being dangled? Was it a gr To which they say that he is outside pissed as a fart. So good.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Which I was like, oh, that's coming into my lexica. I will be using that from here on now. That's regular talk now. Yeah. It was a, it was really great. It was, it was really fun to see him like sort of dangling. You see his feet sloshing in the mud. And they're like, oh, what's going on. And the grab the grab the grab the gr the gri the gr the gri the gr th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. thi. That's thi. That's thi. That's tho. That's thoom. thoom- thi. thathe thoom- tho- tho- tho- tho- tho- tho- tho- thoom- thoom- thoom. That's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I I th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. I's th. I's the. the. I's the. the. the. the. I's toe. theee. I's theee. I's toee. I'm thee. the. the. I's the. I'm the mud and they're like oh what's going on and then the grabber drops him and they run outside and he kills them yeah which is really fun like through the chimney well he kills the man outside and then the wife is killed through the chimney. That's a terrible way to die. Yeah she was trying to shut the flu. No it's terrible way did I I wouldn't oh god small spaces and all that, you know. What?
Starting point is 00:19:45 Why are you laughing at me? Because you're just mumbling about small spaces now. I'll get closer to the microvone. Is this better? It is because you were a little quiet. Okay. So, they eventually determined that everyone in the town needs to be intoxicated to defeat these things so that they...
Starting point is 00:20:02 To just be safe from them. Right, because they won't drink your blood if you have a high alcohol content. And for some reason O'Shea, who is a full-blown alcoholic, decides that he has to be sober because he wants to go to the bonzo and Lisa Nolan. Who has never been drunk before in life. I can imagine that. Weird. I've just spent so much time drunk. Oh. I don't feel bad about it. They shouldn't.
Starting point is 00:20:33 So, um, so they throw a party and invite the entire town. No children, mind you. Oh yeah, why don't any of those people have children? There were like, uh, like people of all ages at this. Yeah you're right no children. No children. No teens like nobody under the age of I don't know like 25. Weird. Maybe the island would eventually die without these children. That's a different horror movie. That's called Children of Men. Yes. Oh, that
Starting point is 00:21:05 was good. I liked that. There's a point where... Is that hot British guy's name? Oh, with the weird craggy face? Clive Owen. Clive Owen, not Clive Barker. Who's a different man? This is going to be a disaster, isn't it? Was this a bad idea? So that she... Yep. Tell me more about this movie. I wanted to reference it earlier. Officer O'Shea is trying to get his Mac on with Lisa Nola. And she's like, so you're drunk?
Starting point is 00:21:41 And he's like, yeah, I'm drunk. She's like, so you're going to drive home and it's like, no, I'm drunk. Just like, so you're gonna drive home? And it's like, no, I'm gonna ride a horse. And then she sort of implies that riding a horse drunk is illegal. I would think it is. Is that a thing? Well, yeah, because you could, you like steer the horse. Horses don't, like, horses are mindless.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Horses are not mind. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. Hors. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, th. thr. th. thr. thr. thro thro thro th. thro thi, th. th. th. th. put a bridle in their mouths and they're like, oh, I'll do what I want. No, the bridles in their mouths so we can make them do what we want. It's terrible. They're terrible. We're terrible. Everything's terrible. Do you think you can ride a bicycle drunk? Do you think you can ride a horse drunk. I don't think she's wrong. I don't think she's wrong. You're putting a lot of things in
Starting point is 00:22:32 danger if you ride a horse drunk yourself, the horse, other people. You can clearly run over a child. There were no children on this island. If there were, you could have run over them. Right, the children of Met Island that we've freaked earlier. But I'm just saying, like, I don't think you could run a horse into a building. They get Officer Nolan super drunk. Yeah, to like test her. She's sort of a guinea pig. She blows a point two-o, which is impressive. Yeah. And they do what I thought was an homage to the thing. It's back, baby. Represent the thing.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Hi, Nana. Hi, Mike. They have a pint glass that with a, with tape on it that's blood in it and they're going to feed it to the, yeah. And I was like, oh, maybe that's a little subtle homage to the thing. So they feed her blood and it kills the, the grab. And it's super gross. It's like huge tongue comes down. Yeah, and then like a bunch of puss and blah blah blah. It's th. It's, it's, it's, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that, that, that, a, a. that, a. that, a. that, a, a. that, a. that, a. that, a. that, a. that, it was like, I love a practical effect. I love an effect that I feel like I could touch in the real world.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Totally. That's why I'll always choose Ray Harry House and over C. I, oh man. I have a Jason the Argonauts tattoo. What am I going to do with my life? You know what I mean? You know what I mean? It's true? It's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I to. I tou. I to. I th. I th. I tue. It's true. One of the bonding points for Katie and I was that we both love Jason and the... Oh God, I love it so fucking much. It's a really big tattoo, too. It was probably foolish. I'm covered in foolish tattoos. There's the thing homage. There's, um... Wait, tell us. In the thing, there's the Petri dishes that have everyone's names on them in the, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, and the, and the, and the their, the their, theirthing there's the the Petri dishes that have everyone's names on them. Yeah in tape that they put the hot wire into that That eventually shoots the thing out that shows that yeah, do you guys want us to do the thing? I don't know if we should because I reference it a lot. Yeah, and I'm probably gonna lose my mind when we do the episode. Yeah, I have this thi thi. I'm probably gonna. the the the the the the the the the tho. tho. the the tho. tho. the the tho. the tho. the the the tho. tho. the the th. the th. the the th. the the the the theat. that. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. things. things. things. things. things. things. things. things. things. things. things. th. th. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. thing. I feel like if I say a mean thing about the thing you're just gonna punch me in the face and this podcast will be over. I have this this idea that the thing will be the final podcast that we do. Yeah when that one comes out we're done. So they determine that the high blood alcohol is what kills
Starting point is 00:24:58 these grabbers and so they get, you know as said earlier, they get the entire town drunk, and they're, it's fucking, it's hilarious. It's so funny. Oh my god, there's so many funny lines in this movie. It's not just like, it's not just like cheap comedy. It's just, it's clever. Yeah. And there's a thing that I really like in this movie about like, especially earlier when the cops and the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, the cops, There's, they're like scrambling all over the place.
Starting point is 00:25:27 They're not being very good at killing this grabber. They're like grabbing for things and the camera shaking a lot and they're like, smaching the the truck and they're like screaming and they're like, screaming and they're like, like, the fuck out you wouldn't be like I have this weapon and I will cleanly neatly shoot this thing. Well there was there was officer O'Shea who was very clearly stomping this thing yeah and then there was Nolan who was kind of half-heartedly smacking it with something she'd found yeah and then there's Osh or Dr. Smith Dr. Smith who is like kind of to save it the mop but not really and th and the th and the th and th and the th and th and th and the th and th and th and the th. And there there there there there there there there there there there there's there's there's there's there's like there's like there's like there's like there's like th. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. S. Dr. S. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Dr. Yeah, he's like a science thing. And he's like kind of hitting it with the mop. But not really. Yeah. And then he thinks that it's not dead. He thinks that it's dead. And he's like
Starting point is 00:26:10 imagine all we could have learned from it. And it like spits drunky drunk, even more so than the cop. He's the legendary drunk. And he, they ask him why he's still alive and he says, well, diet and exercise. So good. And it was so funny. It was delivered like, expertly, like, so funny. Everybody's timing in this is, everybody's comedic timing is like perfect. And I think that's where the the their their that's that's their that's that's that's their their that's their that's where their their their their their their their their thi their their thi. thi. their thi. thi. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the s. the s. the s. the s. the s. the s. He. He's the s. I's the s. the s. I's the s. I's the s. the s. I's the s. I's the s. I's s. I's s. I's s. I's s. I's s. I's s. I's s. Hea. I's s. Hea. He's the s. He's the s. He's the s. He's the s. He's theing in this is everybody's comedic timing is like perfect and I think that's where But then there's also like severed heads which I'm really into. Yeah, I think that's where Jim's reference to father Ted Really fits in like that's a really good comedy and it's really effective
Starting point is 00:26:53 And I think that this movie has that like it's just super good at the comedy aspects of yeah Yeah, I was worried you're gonna hate th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the thi. the the the thi. the the the thi. the the the the thi. the the the the the the th. th. the thi. the thi. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the the the the the the the thi. th. th. th. t. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. the the the the the the the the. this. I'm glad that we're doing so well. So they get the whole town gets drunk, they're all hanging out together, it's a good time, there's dancing, there's singing. There's a drunk grandma? There's making fun of Catholic priests. They have a coming. With the line. Happy Easter everyone, by the way. If we feed it father pots unless it eats shit it'll choke to death which is pretty
Starting point is 00:27:27 fucking fantastic yeah so there's and there's all these baby grabbers that show oh they're so fucked and they look like sort of like sea cucumbers that are like going all over the bar and it's just it's little mouths like mmm is that what a tiny mouse sounds like? Kind of. Sort of. Yeah, no, I think you're right. Yeah, me too. And eventually they, uh,
Starting point is 00:27:57 I'm glad you're driving this because I'm a disaster. So eventually they get the monster to follow them, O'Shea and Nolan, get the monster to follow them, O'Shea and Nolan, get the monster to follow them to a construction site. So the male grabber is trying to mate with the female grabbers, which it turns out O'Shea has been sprayed with. Yeah, so it's trying to sort of go after him. So they sent him off of the rest of the party who are still drunk at the bar. And they also at this point have an idea where if they can dry it out,
Starting point is 00:28:27 because it seems to need water, but it's been raining the whole time, and if they could just like put it up in the air and once it stops raining, it will dry out, which is sort of drunk logic, but it seems to make sense. Yeah, it's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's fun. It's just just just just just just th. It's just th. It's just th. It's just th. It's just the thi. It's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. It seems seems seems th. It seems th. It seems th. It seems th. It seems thi. It seems thi. It seems thi theeeeean. It seems thean. It seems thi thi thi thi thi th with AstroGlide, it would be fine. Oh, wow. So they leave it to a construction site where of course O'Shea breaks a leg or something after getting tossed. Just tings it a little. And keep in mind that we had to keep getting up for beers, so a lot of positive. So I mean we paused it but it really broke it up for me. So. And. And. And. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Oh. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. So, thi. thi. So, th pausing going on. I went to the bathroom like three times during this movie. So I mean, we paused it, but it really broke it up for me. So O'Shea gets his leg broken. They're broken. He walks on it later.
Starting point is 00:29:11 Oh, right, sort of just jimied up. Just ding. So they're, um, nope, nope, nope, nope, it's gone. It's a word that we knew in about an hour ago. So they fill it with moonshine and then O'Shea, or Nolan fires a flare into it and sort of delivering an alien's-esque, like get your hands off or you, B-word. Yeah. Get away from them, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi th, th, thi- like, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, no th, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi-s, thiii-s, thi-s, thi-s, thi-s, thi-s, thooo-n, tho-word, where she is. Get away from them, you C-word.
Starting point is 00:29:45 C-word. And then basically creates like a mushroom cloud over this down. And then we cut to Phil Collins. I don't think you've referred to him yet as Phil Collins, so you might want to explain that. Brian, the bar keep looks a lot like Phil Collins. I can feel. Oh, though. And Patty, sitting outside of the pub, talking about how they want to, they should just go in and get a drink. So, that is the best.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Everything's just sort of return normal. Yeah, and then the people make out. Yeah, O'Shea and Nolan. Get their smooch on. And then music turns their to th thom omin. th th th th th th th om omin. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th people make out. Yeah, O'Shea and Nolan. Obs. Get their smooch on. And then music turns ominous, and their eggs on the beach. That was a pretty good summary of the plot.
Starting point is 00:30:32 You guys should just watch it. I mean, like it's on Netflix. You have Netflix. What are you waiting for? Why do you need to move on to the rating phase of this? Toats ready. Just because I really need to go to bed. What's your rating of this film? Seven and a half.
Starting point is 00:30:52 Seven and a half? I loved it. I loved it. It was so fun. It was so fun to like watching a group and just yell and be drunk and like yeah it was so good I loved it. Yeah. I'd go as far as I give it an eight. Yeah. I was a little leery of it because it's after 1985 so I was a little scared. That's scary. I'm I had a birthday recently. I'm 41 now so I'm a little scared of the world. But like I said Mike Pukowski and and Jenn Robinson and everybody. And Gene. But like I said, Mike Pukowski and Jen Robinson and... Everybody!
Starting point is 00:31:25 And Gene and then a bunch of other people, as I listed earlier. Very stoked on this movie. It's great. It's really fucking fun. Everybody loves it and there's a reason. It's because it's something for everyone. It's so good. Watch this movie.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Why don't you guys? They do fun. That's, they. Oh, they listen to us. Oh, shit. I'm so sorry. Yeah. Oh, God, I'm the worst. I like fun. So we highly recommend this movie. Yeah. I mean, like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:51 And I think maybe years down the road, I might hold it in the same esteem that I hold a shawn of the the the living dead. Whoa. Or an other of the dead movies. Oh my god, your life is changing. This is life changing. It's a really beautiful movie. It's really fun. That's great. Oh, man. We're going to cry after all.
Starting point is 00:32:11 We said we weren't going to cry. Now we're going to cry. No, I'm no tears. No, no no more tears. Like either of these things. So yeah, that's our ratings of... Grabbers? Grabbers? This movie that we just loved.
Starting point is 00:32:35 What was it called? It was called Netflix Irish Monster? Ocean, Irish movie? I don't drink so much anymore. No, there's a reason for that. I gotta get an Uber home. Oh, yeah, Irish movie? I don't drink so much anymore. No, there's a reason for that. I gotta get an Uber home. Oh yeah, yeah. It's good thing you didn't have to fax them.
