Hey Wadsquad, I know we told you we'd be off to celebrate Cesar Chavez Day, but surprise,
we are back in your feed because there is some very big news.
Yesterday it was officially announced that a grand jury in New York voted to indict former
President Donald Trump.
What a day indeed.
We are going to keep this bonus episode very short so we can bring you the latest as of
the time I recorded this on Thursday afternoon.
This indictment is for the alleged role that he played in a hush money scheme during his 2016 presidential campaign,
a scheme to cover up his relationship with adult film star Stormy Daniels.
We have talked about this on the show before, done lots on this.
We do not know what Trump has been charged with yet because the indictment has not been unsealed. But the New York Times reported that the paperwork was filed just
minutes before the Manhattan criminal courthouse closed for today's holiday. And the paper said
it talked with, quote, five people with knowledge of the matter and that the forms say that the
grand jury voted to indict. This would make Trump the very first former or current president to face criminal charges.
Take a minute to take that one in.
It's been a long time coming and it's happened.
So Trump said in a statement that the vote was, quote,
a political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history, of course.
And then on Truth Social, he also said this, quote,
these thugs and radical left monsters have just indicated the 45th president of the United States of America.
That is right. He said indicated instead of indicted.
Now for what's next, New York prosecutors will apprehend Trump.
They have asked him to surrender.
And Trump's lawyers reportedly said that he was likely to do that if indicted.
But Trump doesn't always follow through on the things that he was likely to do that if indicted. But Trump doesn't always follow through on the
things that he says. So if he does not surrender, we may get to see his arrest, perhaps the perp
walk that this country needs. Who knows? This is where it could get even more interesting.
Trump is in Florida right now and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is likely to challenge him in a
presidential race, tweeted, quote, Florida will
not assist in an extradition request. Apparently, Florida's a sanctuary state now. Who knew? So if
Trump doesn't surrender, ends up taking sanctuary in Florida, it's unknown what exactly the
consequences for that would be. We will obviously keep you in the loop as we find out. However,
if and when Trump eventually gets back to New York and is arraigned
in court, that is when the charges against him will be publicly announced. And then he will face
a criminal trial. And that, my friends, is what we know so far as I go to record this.
Anyways, happy Cesar Chavez Day, everybody. It's a big one, shaping up to be a big one.
