Starting point is 00:00:00 hey what's your drama welcome to what's your drama i'm sasha i'm laney happy valentine's day we are doing this on valentine's day because the day we usually record a podcast um it was another winter story winter fuckery yeah which seems to happen all the time for your podcast duanna's was delayed now ours was delayed it's been like a month of winter fuckery and anyway We're here. It's Valentine's Day. By the time you guys listen to this tomorrow, Valentine's Day will be over, but we just have, like, a Valentine's Day celebrity thing that both of us, like, fucked up our shit.
Starting point is 00:00:40 We have to talk about it. So, it was what Kanye did for Kim. That would be West and Kardashian, duh. Yes. For Valentine's Day. Can you describe it? Can you just please try to, like, put words to it? I mean, what's so interesting is it's very simplistic.
Starting point is 00:00:57 Typically, whenever they do something romantic, it's very, very involved. This was an empty room with roses in each – a singular rose in a bunch of vases and Kenny G in the middle of it playing the sax. I thought the roses were, like, interesting because I don't think they were in vases. They were, like – They were in, like, singular something. Yeah, they were – it was almost like they were each, like, plugged into a votive, you know, like a votive bass or something like that.
Starting point is 00:01:22 And there were – must have been hundreds, right? Like, the room looks big. Yes. I mean, obviously their living room is probably humongous. It's the size of our home. And Kenny G is playing that song, like whatever. I mean, is that the one? That's any Kenny G song. So yes. You sent it to me. I hadn't seen it. Like, I don't care. I don't check her. She put it on Twitter. I also don't, but it just ended up on some sort of feed. I, that, I wanted to die.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I was mortified. Were you mortified? I was mortified. If Corey ever did anything like that, any sort of thing whereby I have to watch somebody play to me, no way, no way, no way. Wait a minute. So are you the kind of person who, like sometimes you go, for instance, when we go on holiday every year, we go to this restaurant. You do not get people to play guitar for you. And at this, our favorite restaurant there, at our favorite restaurant there, they have a band. There's, it's a three person band and it's Like Spanish style Latin music. And oh, Yasik's going to play you a video from, or like a song.
Starting point is 00:02:31 This is what comes to your table? Yeah. And I love this song. We'd never heard it before until it was played for us. But they're hired by the restaurant and they go from table to table. And that's how they make their living. So we give them like $20. and the song lasts, the song is called, I'm sorry if there are pronunciation errors here,
Starting point is 00:02:54 but Bachata Rosa by Juan Luis Guerra and they come around and we fucking love this song and they come and play it and we give them $20 and like, but they're there to make money. So would that make you uncomfortable? Yes. These are, sorry, I just have to close my eyes because sometimes there are things that you bring out that just surprise me. Like, how do you, like a mariachi band of some sort, come by your table and you listen? So you stop eating and you just watch?
Starting point is 00:03:26 Or are you a dick? I sip my cocktail. Okay. But… Do you make eye contact with them? Yes. Okay, good. The thing is, is that I would never accept this at home.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Okay, so that was going to be my follow-up question. Like, I'm there to support the local economy, which I love. I do that if I can take all my money. Yeah. Yeah. And these, and at this place, they are there year after year. Like that is this, their economy where we go is very stable in the sense of you don't go and you see, you don't see different people working year after year. Every time we've gone, we've gone, and we've been like five years in a row now or six, lots, the same staff, the same people. So
Starting point is 00:04:06 these are the same dudes. But just, I don't care. I want to know if Yasik had had these people in your living room while you walked, you came through the door. Fuck no! You would have walked out, right? Well, if it were these people and he'd flown them in from... Okay, this is the same idea as Kenny G, right?
Starting point is 00:04:26 Like, you have... I would be, it would be weird to me if they were in my house. I would run, I would run. But it's also because it was Kenny G. Like, if it was Adele, I don't think you would be reacting like this. No, it's mostly because it was so fucking cheesy.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Yeah. And then you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, Kenny G? Of all people? Right. Sash, you and I both know. If it was like Leon Bridges or like give me someone cool. Exactly. And like Adele was doing One and Only, which is your first, your favorite Adele song,
Starting point is 00:04:55 I think. Well, one of them, yeah. I don't think you'd be reacting with this level of cringe. You're right. But I wouldn't, I don't like the eye contact of so few people in a room. Do you know what I mean? Like, you have to not only look at this, you have to also feign enjoyment. Like, it's
Starting point is 00:05:11 too much pressure. Even if I am enjoying it, too much pressure. Anyway, I… No? We agree. I think you fucking nailed it with that description. I'm going to, like, I… There's only six eyeballs. I'm giving you a fucking… And they're all looking at each other. Whatever podcast award… Thank you. I'm nominating you and you should win.
Starting point is 00:05:28 Okay, good. Thank you. It is the eye contact of few people in a room. Yes. That is the fucking weirdness. Yes, it is. But they don't… I guess that doesn't faze someone like Kim. She loved it. Great for her. All right. Should we get to the drama?
Starting point is 00:05:43 Please. Okay. Here's the first. I'm reading this week, so here is the first question. Hi, Sasha and Lainey. I've recently started using dating apps after being single for a long time. Long is capitalized, so long. I'm embarrassed to say how long.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Okay, so very long. Okay. I met this guy through Bumble and we hit it off right away. We texted and talked over the phone. Despite my anxieties over dating again, he was super easy to talk to. We're around the same age, early 30s. Both have our own home. And also, to be perfectly honest, I liked him physically and was already having good
Starting point is 00:06:15 thoughts about making out with this guy soon, and I could tell he felt the same way. Point is, I was excited about him. And then, and then, he tells me he voted for Trump. Okay. Oh, fuck. Okay. He says his politics are issue by issue, but I can't see how anything Prez Circus Peanut stands for is an issue worth supporting.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Please don't use my name, but as you can see from my email, I am Hispanic. I shouldn't have to say this, but for full disclosure, I should say I am a U.S. citizen. My family has been here for several generations. I have family who've served in the military and continue to serve in public service jobs. This presidency has made me sad, disappointed, and fearful in a way I'd never experienced before. I have always told myself that a Trump supporter would be an immediate deal breaker. 80% of me wants to bail on this guy, and the other 20% of me still wants to see if maybe he is not that bad. Have I just been single for too long and am now digmatized?
Starting point is 00:07:12 Am I pre-digmatized? Should I politely end things now? What would you do? Fuck. Good question. This is a good question. Oh my God. I don't…
Starting point is 00:07:22 Oh, fuck. Yeah. I mean, I know some people would be like, hell the fuck no. Yeah. Like, you've only texted and talked and whatever and there's other shit on Mumble. Like, I think that that's where I'm leaning. I'm leaning towards that only because, like, in another time, decades ago, even just five years ago, if you had political differences, I think that you could still be okay. Like, you'd still be able to have, like, intellectual conversations, somehow meet in the middle on some sort of things.
Starting point is 00:07:52 This presidency, this is like a whole other ballgame. Like, I'm not saying that this guy is a racist or a bigot or, like, fucking walking around with, like, a white fucking hood all over his head. but he doesn't mind supporting somebody who has those beliefs so that would be problematic for me overlooks it for sure whatever bonuses and benefits exactly yeah overlooks or supports I don't know which one for me that would be that would be too hard like no matter how big his dick is or how digmatized you are I don't I wouldn't be able to do that I wouldn't be able to get over that. I would hate, I hate anybody who talks about Trump in a nice way. So there's no way that I could turn that off. This is like a rom-com. Like someone who's been single. It's
Starting point is 00:08:39 not very comedic, but yeah. Someone who's been single for a really long time finally meets somebody who's like, you know, given you chemistry, easy to talk to, and you want to like get on his dick. And then all of a sudden there's this like issue. It's a huge issue. It's a huge issue. I'm inclined to agree with you, except. And I'm not saying except like I'm not agreeing with you. I'm inclined to go your direction. I think that my next question or everybody's next question is, given that almost half of voters voted for this person, I'm saying voters because lots of people in the country didn't vote. But given that almost half of the people who did vote voted for this dick yeah does that mean that like they don't deserve love i mean
Starting point is 00:09:28 that's a that's a really just an interesting philosophical debate right like again i'm so happy i've found my person and i hope it lasts because to get back out there and then to i hope it lasts like happy valentine's day yes she really hopes it lasts i hope it lasts because the prospect of getting back out there and on top of all the things you have to worry about like sexual chemistry and whether this person
Starting point is 00:09:56 is like a murderer and do you like his mother? Yeah. Those things. You have to worry about like politics. If he's racist. Because as you said
Starting point is 00:10:05 these days it's so polarizing and especially with this fucking dude like again it's very clear that he stands for the worst. And the other added thing here which is
Starting point is 00:10:18 i i'm grateful for our writer to have mentioned is that she is of the background the racial background that the president wants to fucking put in jail basically right i mean obviously she's a u.s citizen but by by just face value he is not down with her kinds of people so there's a lot of ways down with her kinds of people if they're in like subservient sure goals. Great. Perfect. Exactly. Like let's be, but let's be clear the level of depravity here. And I think, fuck, our writer has said it. 80% of her is saying no. So I would trust the 80%. If that's your gut, go with the gut. I feel so bad for her though, because again, she was like, you're right. There are other people. There are other people. And look,
Starting point is 00:11:09 how about this? Can we meet in the middle here? Maybe go out on like a couple more dates. maybe really figure out where this sort of Trump support comes from and if you can get him on the other side of things in a few days. If you can, great. If you can't, I couldn't sleep in the same bed with someone that disagrees so immensely with my core values. Maybe that's the way to like change things. You know, if he, I mean, he's clearly hot for her. Clearly. And so if he finally is like well shit my my like assy politics are getting in the way of like my dick being satisfied or just love yeah yeah listen obviously we don't mean to make light of the issue but again maybe there's some truth to it maybe when these people if these people realize like hey
Starting point is 00:12:01 i am cutting myself from like being able to like hang out with a hot woman who is smart and like sexy and I hit it off with, but because of my dickhead beliefs, because he's clearly not holding it against her. That's the thing here. He's not holding it against her that she's not a Trump supporter or didn't vote for Trump. Sure. So she, it's not her, she doesn't have any problems.
Starting point is 00:12:32 So maybe that's like the tweak here is to get it out there. Like, and maybe open his eyes, right? Maybe he just is one of those people who live like in a really shitty insular republic kind of like upbringing and that's who his friends are. But maybe he needs to break out of that and maybe she'll be the one to save him from his stupid fucking thoughts. You know, this goes back to a conversation we had last week about, you know, the burden on people of color to have to like come halfway in order for us to progress and advance and heal. and we talked about that. And you were exhausted by that. And I was exhausted by that
Starting point is 00:13:13 but we talked to the woman who was married to her husband and like how to get someone to be an ally or at least not coach them but explain to them like what allyship means. But in that situation
Starting point is 00:13:29 those people were already married. Like she had kids with him. Yes. Whereas like in this situation it's new and so I guess the question to you I don't think that we're going to answer this for you. I guess the question I would pose to you, because I think this decision is on you, is
Starting point is 00:13:44 whether or not if you decide to give this a chance as a woman of color, do you want to take on that educational coaching role? And how long will you wait for that to like actually be imprinted in his brain before you pull the plug? Like, let's play this out for her, though. If this is just, like, a one-time hit and done, great. Go and fucking fuck him and, like, then go back on to Bumble and find somebody else. The thing is, though, if you play this out and there's potential and you start dating,
Starting point is 00:14:19 if he's a Trump supporter, I'm pretty sure that there must be relatives. And friends. And so then you're, like, going to be, like, your eyeballs and life balls are going to be multiplied by this kind of presence. You have to, like, lay that out and, like, sit with it and breathe through it. Can you handle it? If not, just go back on Bumble and find someone else. There's that option as well. Okay, let us know what you decide.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Please, please do. Yeah, keep us posted. This one's interesting. We really want to know. Okay, next. Dear Sasha and Lainey, here's my drama. I'm 41, happily married with three wonderful children. I've been married for 11 years and I love my husband very much.
Starting point is 00:15:01 He knows me. He gets me. The passion is still there. but I'm about to start a new job and my boss, the owner of the company, is gorgeous. I was immediately attracted to him. In fact, we've known each other for decades. We grew up in the same place, had friends in common, so when we met again, the sparks and attraction was automatic. This has got me fucked up because what do these feelings mean when Lainey and Sasha, I love my husband, I really do, but how is this man from my past who I never dated,
Starting point is 00:15:31 did nothing sexually with ever, driving my mind into overdrive. I think about him, fantasize about him, can't get him off my mind. Am I a horrible person? Am I destined to cheat? How can I control these feelings when I'm at work? Does this mean my marriage isn't as strong as I think it is? Help me. V.
Starting point is 00:15:49 V, this is great. So good. Sorry, V. I wish I had someone at work that was this hot. Fuck. Well, I mean, really, it comes down to what is V made out of? Is she strong enough to go into work every day and be faced with this beautiful face, this sexy ass motherfucker, and not cross the line?
Starting point is 00:16:14 I would like to say, yes, she can. Yes, you can hold your shit together. Yes, you can be professional. Then, yes, you can go into the bathroom and be like, oh, my God, oh, my God, oh, my God, he's so hot. And then get back to being professional again. Yeah. That's what I would hope.
Starting point is 00:16:28 That's what I would hope I could do too. Girl, like, as you said, your question was, am I destined to be a cheater? Like, no. Have you cheated before? We have self-determination. Like, you know, it's about avoiding certain situations, not allowing yourself to be in certain situations where you can act on things. But even still, like, we have self-control as human beings.
Starting point is 00:16:52 that is why we're human beings and like not animals roaming around that are just like just controlled by biology like mating season let's fucking go yeah right like we have consciousness um and so there's part of you that sounds like you're entertained by this and it can be fun to have a crush and i think that's healthy too yes especially like in a marriage that you want and expect to last, it is unrealistic to be like, I will never be attracted to anybody again. Thank you for saying that. And I think that that's something that amongst our friends, we talk about all the time. Yeah. It's healthy and it's normal. And it's what's abnormal is thinking that, yeah, the only person you should be attracted by is your partner. That's fucking
Starting point is 00:17:45 boring. That's why people who are in monogamous relationships sometimes cheat is because they I think that they're never allowed to look anywhere else. So look places, just don't touch places. Just keep it to the fantasy and keep it to the, like, you know, because you know that you're so attracted to this person, being alone during non-work hours for an after work drink, not a good idea. Not a good idea. No.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Like you go to work, you go home, you do not have to be any more than colleagues. That is where you exercise your, not, I don't even think it's self-control. It's respect to your spouse. Yes. Which I think you must have. I mean, the fact that you're writing in and you're just like losing your mind over this means that you are, you know, you're trying to be respectful and trying to navigate this situation.
Starting point is 00:18:35 I will also tell you that like most big crushes, they fade really quickly. You know what I mean? it's so exciting. And then give it a month, give it two. And then you're like, oh, like you're over it after a while. Like you see something cresting on the side of their mouth one day and you're like, oh, I'm not into you anymore. No, seriously. One day you're going to walk into the bathroom after he takes a dump. And maybe that's good. How about do that right off the bat? Just keep on jamming yourself into the washroom right after. No, I want your fantasy to last for a little while so you can have fun. But I promise you eventually like he's going to come in wearing
Starting point is 00:19:09 a hideous jacket or he's going to talk to somebody in a way that you don't find cool or, I don't know, yeah, as you said, something will crush it. Something will, something will kill it. Yeah. So enjoy it while it lasts, but again, you have self-determination. Yeah. Your self-control. It's okay to like fucking rub a few out over him, which I'm sure you have already.
Starting point is 00:19:35 Get it out of your system. That's what it is, right? Like acknowledge it. Yeah. Deal with it. And then be professional. Give her like in your private moments, in the shower, whatever. But don't let on anything.
Starting point is 00:19:47 And it's not a game either. No. Don't start playing a game. Don't think that he wants to date you. No. No. No. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:54 In fact, like I feel like you, I would like you to listen to our podcast about you. Every morning before you go to work. Yes. As a reminder, because it's tempting, right? It's tempting to like, you know, drop some breadcrumbs. Yeah. Everybody likes that game. No games.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Yeah. No games. You go in, you do your work and like you find them attractive. That's it. Go home, have some wine. And have sex with your husband. Have sex with your husband. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Period. The end. Yeah. Okay. Because clearly your marriage is awesome. Yeah. Don't fuck that up for some hot dude. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:32 Even though that's so exciting. But I'm curious. Send us a picture. Yeah. Send us his Instagram. You know what? is the quickest way to kill your crush, send us a picture, because then we'll say how gross he is.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Yeah. There you go. Because I guarantee you, like, both Sasha and I are so particular about who we find. And also, what both of us are really good at, I am an excellent crush killer. Are you? Oh, fuck. Like, I have a friend, you know her, who was super into Chris Pine. Yep.
Starting point is 00:21:00 And so we were on a text thread with Duanna, and she had just seen Wonder Woman, and she was like, oh my God, I have a Chris Pine problem. I did one thing One thing Which was? And she wrote back And she was like You are a fucking asshole
Starting point is 00:21:14 You couldn't let me Just have this for a day I just saw the movie today And you couldn't let me What did you send her? I don't want to do this to people Okay Because I did it to her
Starting point is 00:21:25 Because she's my friend And I can be a dick to her Okay you don't want to ruin it For other people No I don't want to ruin Like Kathleen for example Loves Chris Pine I have refrained from doing this
Starting point is 00:21:32 To Kathleen Okay Because I know that like Oh do you know what I did to Kathleen about Michael B. Jordan. See, you fucking, did you fucking kill? I didn't fucking kill the crush. I tried to. Yeah. Cause I was like, do you know that he's the same height as Corey? And she was like, fuck you. He is not the same height as Corey. And I was like, he's five, nine. He's five, nine. And so I showed her pictures. Also fuck you, Corey's not five,
Starting point is 00:21:53 nine. He is. He's just really small looking, but truly he is. I don't know what to tell you. Don't know what to tell you. Anyway, but the point being, I was like sending her pictures of him on red carpets with his co-star and I was like, they're the same height. Anyway, it didn't kill her crush. But like, I know what you're saying. Right. That idea. Also, nothing wrong with men who are 5'9".
Starting point is 00:22:12 No, I'm… Yes. It just happens that like Kathleen is tall. Likes a tall man. So she likes a tall man. She's not tall. She likes tall men. She's tall.
Starting point is 00:22:20 You are so fucking weird. She's the same height as me, who you call short. She's taller than you. No, she's not. Fuck. See, you're stupid. You're just… Not stupid.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Sorry, I take that back. I'm… I will tell you, though, it's the same as the Noah Centineo thing. I thought that I would never, ever lose that crush. It fucking died in a month. It'll die. It'll die. Anyway, if you need help, if you need help, we will kill the crush for you.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Send us his picture. Maybe we should have just said this right off the top. Send us his picture, and we will tell you what's wrong with him. Anyway, on that note, on that Valentine's love note. we really are heartwarming here keep your questions coming to
